Erfurt

Erfurt is a city in the central German state of Thuringia. Martin Luther, father of the Protestant Reformation, was ordained in the Cathedral of St. Mary, whose origins date to the 8th century. Next to the cathedral is the Gothic Church of St. Severus. The Augustinerkloster is a monastery where Martin Luther lived as a monk. The Krämerbrücke bridge has medieval houses and shops, and stretches over the Gera River.

Sights & Landmarks
Erfurt Cathedral, also known as St. Mary's Cathedral, is a stunning Roman Catholic church that beautifully showcases both Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Perched on the picturesque Domberg hill alongside the Church of St. Severus, this magnificent structure boasts intricate stained glass windows and remarkable works of art dating back to the 15th century. With its origins tracing back to 742 AD, Erfurt Cathedral stands as one of Germany's finest examples of Gothic architecture.
Erfurt Cathedral is impressive. Its architecture is very detailed which attracts a lot of attention. its interiors are very spacious and inside it is very quiet and dark. For me, the most impressive thing was the organ, it was gigantic. I highly recommend your visit, as it is fascinating to get to know this ancient cathedral.
Janik T — Google review
What more interesting is no entrance fee. Peaceful and the architecture is truly beautiful
Meera D — Google review
Absolutely amazing architecture really beautiful cathedral. Only disappointing thing is wasn’t able to view the inside but that is because I arrived in the evening although the view of the cathedral at night is also spectacular and even from the outside truly worth a visit very nice.
Karissa G — Google review
This cathedral is massive and must have really intimidated people back in the day. I've never seen anything like it, though someone told me there's another large one in another German city. This cathedral dominates this small city. Pictures don't capture the humongous size; you have to see it in-person to get the full effect. It communicates power. The inside is beautiful, and in one area people pray and reflect, making it a peaceful place to visit.
Margaret L — Google review
This church has so many architectural details from the outside and from inside as well. The construction is huge and is a landmark for the city of Erfurt. It could be worth visiting once, however I noticed that they were closing the gates going to the inside yard of the church in the evening.
Adnan Q — Google review
I visited the Erfurt Cathedral and it was an amazing experience. What I liked: • The Gothic architecture is stunning and gives a strong sense of history. • When I entered, there was music playing inside, which made the atmosphere even more magical. • The interior and the details of the cathedral are truly impressive and peaceful. Conclusion: A must-see if you love Gothic architecture and historical landmarks. The combination of architecture and music made my visit unforgettable.
Jantsannorov G — Google review
Amazing cathedral, very much worth the trek up the stairs. When I visited I was also lucky enough to experience a choir sing in there as well. Was magical!
Jibran K — Google review
Erfurt Cathedral of St. Mary is an impressive Gothic church that towers above the Domplatz. Its history dates back to the 8th century, with the current structure mainly built in the 14th and 15th centuries. The cathedral is especially famous for the Gloriosa, the largest free-swinging medieval bell in the world. Inside, visitors are captivated by vibrant stained glass windows, ornate altars, and the magnificent Romanesque crypt.

Nature & Parks
Nestled in the heart of Erfurt, Egapark is a sprawling 36-hectare oasis that showcases the beauty of nature and horticulture. This landscaped gem from the 1960s features an array of themed gardens, including Japanese and rose gardens, as well as captivating sculptures. One of its standout attractions is Europe’s largest ornamental flower carpet, boasting around 150,000 vibrant blooms that transform with each season.
Amazing gardens on a huge site. We definitely recommend the after-work ticket after 5 p.m. for 5 euros in contrast to the full ticket price of 17 euros. On a weekday there were very few visitors at that time. The flower beds were a host of colour and very well maintained.
David W — Google review
It is huge and expensive. So to get the best for your buck take your time and spend a whole afternoon there. But the park is outstanding even on an international scale!
Axel B — Google review
Wonderful experience. We enjoyed the lovely flour belt, the neatly kept gardens (rose garden, hedges and water features). The Danakil exhibition was really worth it. So educational and with beautiful, massive butterflies, chameleons, desert mammals, colourful bird species and partially massive fishes. The rainforest part is particularly enjoyable with a huge ant feature, steaming water ponds and colourful flowers. Walking around on the terrain we found a little farm section with pigs, gees, farm birds etc. which was well worth it. Also the tower with the viewing platform is worth the climb, as it rewards you with a stunning view over the “Erfurt basin” which is the massive valley, that Erfurt is built within. Only downside the price - with 17€ per adult this is really too much. Also beware that on a Sunday almost all restaurants seem to be closed inside of the Egapark, which is somewhat of a bummer, considering one needs at least a full day to explore the entire terrain.
Afrika L — Google review
Ega is always a beautiful excursion. Be it summer or winter. You can easily spend the whole day there with the kids, relaxing in the beautiful gardens or playing in the park, in the playground or the fountains. We also enjoy regular events like Lichterfest, Winterleuchten, music festivals or exhibitions. There are two restaurants and multiple food, coffee and ice trucks, so you won't grow hungry or thirsty either. Especially since you can find a free drinking water fountain next to the farm. Many toilettes are spread around the whole area.
Annih — Google review
Beautiful playground with water park for little kids The entrance is little expensive
Antonina K — Google review
Beautiful and tranquil. Ideal for relaxing and meditating. It’s also picturesque, making ideal for photo shoots. It’s clean, well maintained and costs you nothing to get it. Stop by! You won’t be disappointed.
Oluwaseyi A — Google review
Beautiful and large complex of thematical gardens, so far the most gorgeous I saw. Very well maintainted and clean, with several places to relax. Also includes a huge playground for children. I hope to visit this awesome place once again in the future.
Strigoii_mortii — Google review
The best park in erfut, all the cherry blossoms tress are now completely opened. Few parts of the park are under construction for the next big summit they have in next year. You also have a tower from there you can get a perfect view of whole erfut

The Old Synagogue in Erfurt is a historic landmark dating back to the 11th century, making it one of the oldest synagogues in Europe. This Gothic building now houses a museum that showcases the famous Erfurt Treasure, which includes thousands of silver coins, gold pieces, and jewelry from the 13th and 14th centuries.
An amazing experience. The cache of gold and silver items testament to the sucess of Jewish merchants in medieval times. Truly heartwarming to see the lovingly restored buildings too. A very important site for Jewish tourists. Elizabeth Edinburgh, Scotland

History and how we acted in the past, what was done to protect what was owned in midst of a war by digging up the cellar and hiding your valuables in the ground,. It shows how modern and free we live nowadays. Profound, but reminder of past and presence. Great place to tour and visit. 1 hour or less
Klaus B — Google review
Interesting place to visit to learn jewish heritage. A bit pricey, but peobably because it is part of UNESCO world heritage
Sergio G — Google review
Amazing that they were able to restore it after hundreds of years of neglect. The building and artifacts inside are very interesting. Glad the Erfurt City government decided to commemorate the history and make it a notable place.
Margaret L — Google review
Was able to find the entrance to the museum fast enough. Had a student card, the entry was free in the museum. There were a lot of historical jewelry, coins and similar stuff inside the building. Also on display was a wedding ring from around 600 years ago. There was a restaurant open in the vicinity of the Synagogue. A special looking restaurant with bamboos used for decorating or its construction.
Muhammad A — Google review
I was only able to see it from outside. Amazing that it has stood for so long.
Daniel O — Google review
Interesting all the stories of the synagogue and the jewesh community. The exhibition is properly done and the upper room pretty interesting but there is not so much to see. Give between 15 and 30 minutes to visit it

Nestled within a stunning baroque palace, the Angermuseum is a treasure trove of art and craftsmanship that spans from the Middle Ages to contemporary times. Originally constructed between 1705 and 1711 as a packing and weighing house, this architectural gem showcases an impressive collection that highlights the rich historical, economic, and cultural tapestry of Thuringia and Erfurt.
Special exhibition of artwork from Heinz Zander were very nice. There were also free of charge exhibition of architects on the ground level that also worth a visit!

Went there on Museum Night when it was too crowed, though the exhibits were amazing and the variety was refreshing. Can't want to come back here when there are less people!

Must see in Erfurt. Changing exhibitions plus a permanent ceramics section.
Axel B — Google review
I was introduced to Erfurt’s Angermuseum because I saw the wonderful production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in its courtyard theater. I returned with a friend to see the excellent exhibition of De Ploeg - a group of Dutch authors that came together in the 1920s. This exhibition was excellent. I wandered into the museum’s main painting gallery and found the groupings by old masters and 20th/21st century artists a bit jarring. I will have to explore this museum more next time I visit Erfurt.
Laura P — Google review
The museum is average size but it has its own charm and chic So many antic peaces of 🖼 art The exhibition is breath taking Thank a lot to everyone who has worked to arrange all this!!!

A small collection of paintings, porcelain and wood carving artwork which is worth visiting. In addition, their temporary exhibition from Clemens Gröszer was impressive. Unfortunately the staff are not so friendly.

Sights & Landmarks
Krämerbrücke, also known as the chandlers bridge, is a historic landmark in Erfurt, Germany. It is the longest inhabited bridge in Europe and features half-timbered houses that now house galleries, cafes, antique shops, and boutiques. This medieval bridge offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and provides stunning views of Erfurt from its cobblestone street.
This is probably the first thing you should visit as a tourist in Erfurt - it's beautiful, there's lots of cute little shops, you can get some ice cream and sit and enjoy the view of this beautiful bridge and all the people who are walking past. There were lots of tourist groups, but it was still relatively quiet. I'd really recommend coming here!
Ripple E — Google review
Amazing how they managed to build this beautiful bridge with the shops and apartments so many years ago before there was any modern machinery! The fact that it is still standing after all these decades is a marvel! I loved the whole experience!
Elmarie M — Google review
Very lovely views and lots of unique history here. Definitely worth a visit.
Christina M — Google review
Really cool that one can be walking down the street without even realizing being on the Merchant's bridge. Definitely take a moment to walk outside and see the bridge then walk back through - really cool. There are a lot of little plazas around to stop and relax with a lot of little ice cream shops within a small area.
Lisa K — Google review
The Krämerbrücke in Erfurt is the longest bridge in Europe that is completely covered with inhabited buildings. It spans the Gera River and connects Benediktsplatz with Wenigemarkt in the heart of the old town. Small shops, galleries, and artisan workshops line the bridge, giving it a charming medieval atmosphere. It is one of Erfurt’s most famous landmarks and a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
Marc B — Google review
Its okay. It is a bridge with houses build above it. Maybe it was special to many people but for me its simple

Kromer's Restaurant & Gewölbekeller is a cozy spot with a leafy terrace that offers regional dishes with a European twist. It's known for its traditional Thuringian cuisine, including authentic Thuringian dumplings and homemade potato specialties. The restaurant's underground Gewölbekeller provides a rustic ambiance where guests can savor hearty dishes like braised pork cheeks and woodcutter schnitzel, as well as lighter options such as summer bowl and grilled goat cheese.
If we could give more stars we would. This place leads by example across all points: food, service, atmosphere. Highly recommend you make a reservation as they’re always booked out. That says it all! Locals and visitors, it’s a favourite. Steffen, the owner, hands on which is impressive. His staff are in good form, always polite and professional. Always a good sign when staff are happy. Food! Don’t get me started. Everything on the menu is so incredibly delicious but when you come in May, you got to go seasonal with the asparagus dishes. Kromers’s is a beautiful restaurant and I can’t wait to come back next year.
Cindy W — Google review
Maybe they had a bad day, but I am super, super disappointed. Felt that we were a pain to be there. Saw the great Google reviews and was looking so forward to a nice experience. Unfriendly, inexperienced staff and mediocre food. If you can avoid. Could not even get desert. Kitchen 'closed'Not worth it.

Best damn spot in Erfurt! Service totally on point, unbelievable delicious German Food, supremely high end and top quality! Beautiful building and very pretty "Innenhof" in the summertime. Will be my go to spot when visiting Thuringia for business but will be purely for pleasure!
Patrick L — Google review
The food was quite acceptable for a group dinner but most of the staff (sorry for the one friendly lady) was outrageous. I have never experienced such a rude behaviour so definitely don’t recommend this restaurant. I would like to be treated as a customer, not a dog. Also coming to ask for an additional drink would be nice than rather have to go and ask for it. Mind you, we were the only group in so no excuses.
Sandra B — Google review

Jim P — Google review
All in all really great experience for meat lovers as well as vegetarians. Big recommendation. ✨ Food: two soups, wild garlic and asparagus soup as a starter both really good in flavour and wild garlic soup tasted very fresh, seasoning was just right not too salty or overdosed perfect amount Main dish: German wild garlic dumplings with a small salad, avocado oyster mushrooms and cream sauce really really delicious the combination was on point Main dish with meat: Tafelspitz with potatoes sauce and garlic spinach, the beef was so tender and juicy very delicious Service: super kind from making the reservation until the end always attentive and friendly Atmosphere: if you want something special I would recommend going downstairs to the historical vault
Liz T — Google review

The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring a creative blend of regional and international cuisine, with elaborate dishes carefully crafted by chef Christopher Weigel. (Translated by Google) We were fortunate enough to be able to reserve a table at very short notice. The evening was perfect! The welcome was very warm, the front-of-house staff attentive and, to our delight... natural and not fake. The food... we were on a grand tour and a world tour... was magnificent!!! Each course was explained in detail, the individual components, and the idea behind it. We were paired with a small wine pairing to match. We found this opportunity quite special, since you still have to get home. 😉 All in all, we were, no... are thrilled with this beautiful restaurant!! Keep up the good work and best regards! (Translated by Google) EUROPEAN WORLD CLASS! We were at Clara on a Thursday evening; it wasn't fully booked, and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. The decor is modern, warm, and comfortable. We received a very warm welcome. Let me just say in advance: the entire staff is incredibly courteous and friendly; every company wishes they had such employees. TOP! Jupp showed us to our seats and, together with Gregor, guided us through the wonderful evening. The flow and quality of the service were outstanding. As for the food: we had the "World Tour"... and it was a fantastic journey through the world of flavors. Asian "touch" with regional, Nordic influences. This absolutely captivated us... we have visited many Michelin-starred restaurants and were more than surprised at Clara regarding our expectations. (Quote from a guest at the next table: ...visiting you is the best day of my life.) The quality of the products and the dishes created from them by Mr. Weigel and his team are OUTSTANDING. The world of flavors, textures, taste ideas, and execution, as well as the presentation, are not only worthy of a single star, but also take the guest on a wonderful four-hour culinary journey. Thank you so much for this experience, we're already saying: we'll be back! We ourselves are from Erfurt, this was our first time at Clara, and we can only recommend to all readers of this review (especially those from Erfurt): visit the restaurant; you won't regret it and will remember a wonderful evening for a long time to come. At the end, there was a surprise from the team; we hadn't expected it, it wasn't necessary, but we were very happy about it. Thank you! Danke!

Sophia S — Google review
Very nice atmosphere of a renovated old house. However, food was standard. The dishes we had were overpriced for what we had. Bratkartoffeln were too dark. And a suggestion for the staff: do not clean tables with a cloth that has the mouldy smell. It leaves the smell on the table, which is not pleasant, specially when eating.

Restaurant
Located at Lange Brucke, Bab & Bab Bistro is a perfect destination for fans of Korean cuisine. The restaurant offers a variety of Korean delicacies such as Kimchi, Korean tapas, Sushi, Galbi, and Korean BBQ. The focus here is on delicious food rather than extravagant interior design. The staff is friendly and provides helpful recommendations from the extensive menu. Visitors can expect an authentic culinary journey with different spices, textures, and preparation methods.
Such a wonderful little gem in Erfurt! The food is delicious and the staff were lovely. We tried many different dishes, such as kimchi, seaweed, bibimbap, noodles, and dumplings, it was all delicious! Also great vegan options

Food: for Vorspeise we ordered Hühnerspiesse and it’s very tasty. 🤤 We also ordered the Namul Dolsot-Bibimbap and Dakgangjeong, we have nothing to say since we didn’t left any single meal in the plate. Everything‘s tasty and the prices are extremely good. Service: We make a reservation at 17:30 and the food was served at 18:02 which is a little bit longer as the other neighbouring korean restaurant that we only waited for 10mins for the food. But it’s okay, it’s still worth the wait. Atmosphere: A like the ambiance of the interior, simple and relaxing. Not a lots of table which is nice because they can accommodate all the incoming customers without disturbing the other customers. Definitely we‘ll visit for second time.

We’ve been here two times already and it has been amazing overall. The food is authentic Korean food and the the teas are very soul warming. The only thing that I would keep in mind is to ask a few times about the meat in the dumplings if you don’t eat pork. The waiter seemed a bit clueless about that. But overall great experience!

The staff is rude and you HAVE to make a reservation. We made one on the app just to walk back in for the staff to say there is no availability. They waved us out the door like we are homeless and we have 2 kids and a baby i was appauled at the treatment. Instead of ruining our nice family day we just went around the corner to Wollkim a nice korean restaurant with a really nice view of the church!
