Wadden Sea National Park is a must-visit destination, attracting millions of migratory birds to its sea areas, marshes, and barrier islands. Explore the area's rich history at Ribes Viking Museum and Esbjerg Museum, as well as the newly opened Jacob A. Riis Museum. Don't miss the world-class art at Ribe and Esbjerg's art museums or the stunning views from Ribe Cathedral's Tower.
If you want peace and want to know the power of pure oxygen then this the place. Very calm and less visited......this is place to getaway from the crowded streets. I got so much energy being there that even after being back from there I was active for around a week. There are nice villages nearby , very well maintained. I stayed in bredburo. Wish I could settle there, I would few more years to my lifeline.

Beautiful islands, easy to get out to by ferry, but tricky to get arpund without a car or bike. Plenty of unique shops. Nice spots to camp as well. Beach is super long & the water is warmer than expected.
Chris T — Google review
Wow.. Just wow experience especially driving through the sea..!! Camping would be cool and best to do here.. Lots and lots of birds.. This is a real Natural park to visit!!

Great place to go for a walk across the valleys, little woods and dunes. And find bunkers in the middle of nowhere

Vast beaches and cosy small towns of Denmark. Can be windy on those beaches though

Møgeltønder Kirke, located at the western end of Slotsgade, is a historical gem with a richly decorated interior. Dating back to the 13th century, this church boasts Romanesque and Gothic architecture, including a nave from 1180 and a Gothic choir vault from the 13th century. The tower, baptismal font from 1200, and chapel added in 1763 contribute to its diverse architectural history.
Small nice church, with unusual interior. The village itself is like a box of chocolates.

Went to a mini course on English bell ringing in Møgeltønder Church. The church is one of few places in Denmark, where a dumbbell is installed (bell ringing simulator) to practise the art of bell ringing. Very interesting, and a fine skill to learn!

This was a brilliant place to visit with the wife and 2 wee kids (2 and 6). It's a tenner to get in and you could spend the whole day there. The maze is fab and you have to find all 8 secret stamps to get the certificate which makes it more fun than just wandering around a maze. Loads to do, friendly guy on the reception. Thoroughly recommend, kids or no kids 👍👍
Phil L — Google review
Worse than many public playgrounds in Denmark. They charge 300 DKK! 40€! for a family with 3 small children. Terrible price / performance. I wouldn't recommended this even if it was free

When you only go in for the view, it might be a little expensive. But when you enjoy the great and hard to understand atchitecture as well, it’s worth a visit. We enjoyed this nice tower. Advice for the owners, explain with signs and pictures what can be seen in the surroundings. And hopefully the tower will last for decades, but the material is already quote rusty.
S. R — Google review
The place is very well kept, the tower is amazing (not included in the fee for camping) and it's wifi covered all over. You can get it whenever as it's all technological and contactless credit card connected. But it was very very crowded with mosquitoes and the fee for lake view is not worth it as the lake is more a pond that you don't see a lot. There is dirty water disposable station for both type of dirty waters, but you need to charge the account (credit card).
Diletta S — Google review
It is a fun experience to get high and see more landscape, but it isn't an amazing view. For example, you won't be seeing water, but it is a nice view over fields...which is what Denmark is a lot of! It is pricey for what it is. Cool design for the tower tho and also that you don't go up and down the same way. The lift is out of action at the moment. Nice area otherwise with grass and benches out the front. There is a mini golf course there too.
Emily K — Google review
Disappointed in the lack of a nice view. All you see are the fields. It is too far away from the water or Romo to get a good view of them.
Arjay — Google review
It is a great view and interesting tower. Especially How they designed the stairs so you don’t walk up and down the same way. It is quite expensive for what it is though.
Emil — Google review
Very nice view and definitely worth a 30-minute Stop to or from Rømø. Stairs are broad and shallow. Everyone can make it easily. Why not 5 stars then? Because it is a bit pricy in my opinion.
Oliver N — Google review
The 25 meter tall viewing platform give a feeling of the waste and open landscape in south Denmark. With great views of Wadden Sea National Park and Rømø it really stand out. I really recommend seeing the sunset from here.
Jan P — Google review
Big tower before Rømø. Its part if the campsite, and have a restaurant connected to it. We just saw it and had a picnic. Which there are plenty of option too also. General really pretty. I would say rather expensive to get up 90 DKK (approx. 12.5 euro or 12 dollars)

Vidåslusen is a stunning destination to visit, offering breathtaking views of extraordinary sunsets over the sea. The tower provides plaques that explain the unique environment of the National Park and features a telescope for observing barrier islands and marshlands. Seal spotting is common in the early evening near the sluice. On windy days, visitors can hear the tower 'sing' as coastal gusts cut through its ironwork staircase guardrails.
Vidåslusen is a viewpoint overlooking the stunning scenery of the "vadehavet". Easy to see the shift of the tides. There are a lot of different bird species to see, including the very large sea eagle. Bring a telescope or camera to view the stunning wildlife. #vadehavet, #vidåslusen, #vidaaslusen, #vidaslusen, #sony@6400, #sony_xperia_1_lV

A truly magical place to visit in daytime or evening, extraordinary sunsets over the sea! The tower features plaques explaining the special world of this beautiful National Park including a telescope to observe the barrier islands & marshlands. Seal spotting is also likely in early evening near the sluice. On windy days you could hear the tower “sing” as coastal gusts cut through the guardrails on the tower’s ironwork staircase. Sadly the tower sings no more.
T. M — Google review
Vidåslusen is part of the “Det Fremskudte Dige”, which was built between 1979 and 1981 to replace the older Højer Dike from 1861, which threatened to break after a storm surge in 1976. The lock is made of concrete and has three parallel chambers, each with two self-closing wooden gates facing the sea and one storm shutter facing the land. The lock ensures that water from the Vidå river can flow out into the Wadden Sea at low tide, while at the same time preventing water from the Wadden Sea from flowing into the Vidå river at high tide. The area between Højer Sluse and Vidåslusen is home to a rich birdlife and the Margrethekog saltwater lake was established as a resting place for birds in the area. From the top of the dike, there is a wide view to the west over the Wadden Sea, to the east over Højer’s old lock and dike, and to the northeast over Højer town with Højer Mill as a clear landmark. The cultural environment is important as a resting place for migratory birds, my dog, Lexi, and is a unique example of a reclaimed area where one can experience contemporary coastal protection, land reclamation, lock and dike facilities.

Lovely place to watch the sunset, only thing missing would be some benches so you wouldn't have to sit on the grass.
Julie P — Google review
Unfortunately we didn't see any seals at sunset but climbed the tower and looked over the sea and watched the birds (spoonbills and others we couldn't identify) Beautiful slot of natural beauty. Highly recommend.

Café Fru Dax is a recommended spot for those who enjoy a combination of sweet and salty flavors. While the bubble waffle may be slightly salty, the ice cream offered is truly delightful. Those with a preference for sweet and salty combinations should opt for the bubble waffle with ice cream, while those who prefer different tastes can go for a regular ice cream cone. The service at Café Fru Dax is satisfactory, with manageable wait times despite arriving close to closing hours.
Curry pølse is a must..Fish and chips aswell..Big portions.Great for price..
Mc H — Google review
Only had the ice cream here and really liked it. Great spot, only a few minutes drive off from the beach so it was quite crowded on a Summer day. Lots of different flavour options to choose from, and the waffle was definitely worth the wait. Staff is friendly.
Carolina L — Google review
Not for nothing it is the best ice cream parlor in Denmark. Creative flavors (I had Baily's and Tiramisu), friendly staff, decent prices and so much variety. They also got food coffee
Anna R — Google review
The most rude and unfriendly service I have witnessed in a long time. First, being scolded for not waiting at the "wait to be seated sign" (sorry for not seeing it, my 4 year old ran towards your kids play area and I went after him because I want to keep an eye on him). I don't need to be talked down to by an irritated waitress on my holiday or any other day. You work in the service industry, remember? Then when seated another waitress came over and with a fury smacked down 2 menus on our table and walked away without even looking at me. I decided then and there to leave and not spend a dime at this awful establishment. I wouldn't get coffee there if it was offered to me for free. Luckily we went to cafe Hattesgaard after this unpleasantness and had a wonderful experience. I recommend cafe Hattesgaard fully.
Mike F — Google review
The food is really great, the seafood felt so fresh. Shrimps was super tasty. My wife and kid did not like the ice creams that where sold here, strange taste they said so the ice cream ended up in the bin directly. The restaurant feel a bit dated, the surrounding area is the super cosy Römö beach.
YoLo — Google review
Boiiii ts so friggin tuff🥶🥶🥶 they served our food in just 6-7 minute, we stayed there for 41 minutes but would've liked to stay longer
Ole L — Google review
The bubble waffle is a bit salty but the ice cream is really good. If you like sweet and salty food I would recommend the bubble waffle with ice cream. If you don’t like sweet and salty food I would suggest to get a regular ice cream cone. The service is somewhat nice. The line and wait isn’t too long.

During my recent adventure in the Wadden Sea, I had the chance to witness the enchanting "Sort sol" phenomenon, where flocks of European Starlings create a breathtaking aerial display at dusk. After such an exhilarating experience, I found myself drawn to Café Victoria in Tonder. This charming café boasts a cozy atmosphere with ample seating options, ensuring that even if it appears busy upfront, there's plenty of room to unwind in the back.
Café Victoria offers a delightful atmosphere to sit back and relax. There’s plenty of seating available, and additional space in the back, so don’t give up if the front area looks full. The café has a great selection of long drinks and an impressive variety of Danish beers. Craft beer fans are in for a treat here. The food is lovingly prepared and served—and it tastes fantastic!
Jan M — Google review
On the evening of our third day visiting the Wadden Sea, we sought to get closer view of the "Sort sol" or "Black Sun" (a phenomenon in which a swarm of European Starlings go through their nightly "ritual" of finding a place to sleep among the bushes growing in the marshes), which we had seen the prior evening just south of Tonder across the German border. Although the skies were more clouded than the day before, we were nonetheless fortunate to witness the birds put on a stunning and mesmerizing air show. On our way back to our lodge in Hojer, we stopped at the Victoria Cafe in Tonder, a casual restaurant with an elegant atmosphere provided by the historical architectural style of the building. I enjoyed a beer (750 ml) for the first time in a while, and we shared two hearty and fulfilling dishes. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the last evening of our stay in Denmark.
Tatsuya O — Google review
We ate there together with friends and my family. When we returned home to Germany, we noticed that they had given us the wrong bill. We wrote two emails because they charged us too much for items from another table. This happened three weeks ago, and we still haven't received a response. The food was actually good, but ignoring customers after making a mistake is unacceptable. On my next visit to Tønder, I will go there in person to address this unprofessional behavior and get my money back!

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Very good food and even good options for gluten intolerant people. E.g. gluten free burgers. Salad buffet with a big variety.

Great place, we went two days in a row during our stay in Tønder. Nice selection of tap beers, fair prices, cozy ambiance, and friendly personnel. They were closing at 10PM but we were allowed to stay a bit longer while the crew was cleaning up, and we never felt rushed. I recommend the Anarkist IPA. Next time we're in town, we'll surely repeat.

Nestled in a charming location with stunning sea views, Havneby Kro Restaurant offers a delightful experience for travelers seeking both comfort and culinary delights. This laid-back inn features simple yet tastefully decorated rooms that exude a nostalgic charm, making it an inviting place to unwind. Guests can start their day with a complimentary breakfast that is well-received for its quality. The restaurant itself is a highlight, boasting a maritime theme and an impressive buffet selection.
Hotel: Simple rooms, nicely decorated, clean and adequate. However, a bit outdated, but nostalgic flair. Breakfast is good. Friendly and helpful operators. Restaurant: We went to the buffet evening twice. Interesting starters. Rich fish soup. Large selection of main courses, especially fish dishes. But also roast pork and beef, as well as chicken skewers. All very tasty. Vegetables, salads and much more. Also the many desserts. Good value for money.

We where here three times for diner in one week. Delicious Food ...for which we rode our bikes for 30 minutes coming and 30 minutes going...
Henk R — Google review
This is an excellent inn with very friendly staff and generous portions. It's a little bit hidden, but definitely worth it. In our party, there was one vegetarian, that did not find any of the dishes on the menu to her liking. So Havneby Kro just cooked up something new that wasn't on the menu but perfectly hit the mark. I wish there'd be more inns like that one.

We love to come here when we're on Rømø and always enjoy the tasty food and nice atmosphere that the Kro grants. A nice collection of beers to try is a cherry on top for everyone who likes to try and enjoy beers from small local breweries.

Nestled in the heart of Tonder, Ristorante Pavarotti is a delightful gem that transports you straight to Sicily. This charming eatery boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a romantic evening or cozy gathering with friends. The owner, Thomas, shares captivating stories from his homeland while serving up comforting dishes inspired by his grandmother's cherished recipes—definitely a nod to culinary heritage!
This restaurant is an absolute gem! The cozy, rustic ambiance with softly glowing tables and warm decor creates the perfect dining experience. The food is exceptional-fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish is a delight! What truly sets this place apart is the incredible service. The staff are kind, friendly, and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Can’t wait to return! 🙏💯

The restaurant is very cozy although it’s not that spacious inside. The service was fine, it’s just that we can see there is needed training, not that we are seeing as the negative side, it’s just a recommendation to make the restaurant more welcoming. The food is okay, probably I ordered the wrong one because there was too much sauce in it and gave me bad stomach. The food presentation is fine as well. It’s also our first time to visit. Not bad at all. :)

Loved this restaurant, small portion of Italy (Sicily) in the center of Tønder. Great food, simple but very nice menu and after meeting Thomas, the owner and chef you understand why this restaurant has this very interesting and strong connection to Italy. The food was fresh and the portions perfect, we got a great red wine to match as a recommendation from one of the waiters, who also allowed us to taist their unique on-house gin. Based this experience, I and those that joined me can highly recommend Ristorante Pavarotti (P2).

For Tønder this is quite good. The menu is limited but it all tastes good (the salad is boring). A nice friendly, convivial place. I'm glad we have it in town.

Tiny Italian restaurant, good ambience, friendly people. We were visiting this restaurant after 10 years (5 stars ten years ago). They had delicious food then and now as well. Although, I guess once in a blue moon day, a customer gets an uncooked chicken and that happened to me during this visit. They promptly took it back including the fries and recooked/refried everything and got back to me. I would have expected an additional gesture though.

This charming little known hideaway is a little piece of Scicillian heaven right here in Tønder! The owner is very friendly and shared with us some interesting stories of his homeland. To top off our experience we ordered some cozy comfort food and he told us it eas his Grandmothers recipe. Well here's to Grandma! Delicious and what a cozy romantic downstairs setting. Dont miss this date night surprise gentlemen. Bonus points from the ladies for HYGGE med stor bogstaver!
