Museums
The Groninger Museum in Groningen, Netherlands is a must-see destination for art enthusiasts. The museum's modern and contemporary art, fashion, design, and local history exhibitions are housed in a strikingly colorful building designed by renowned architect Alessandro Mendini. Opened in 1994, the museum's unique exterior on a small island surrounded by canals sets it apart. Inside, visitors can admire masterpieces from Dutch and international artists.
I really like this museum! It's beautiful and has a lot to offer. I also like that there's a café, a shop, and lockers. Now for the different things:It's really amazing how many different things are on display. It ranges from Chinese art, fashion, model making, old movies and Pictures, old finds/old art, various classical paintings and practical models such as those made of wool. When I was there there was also a Van Gogh exhibition. I think it's cool that it offers so much variety and shows different things at different times. Furthermore, one must add how unique and exciting everything is. The entire museum is also clean and tidy. Highly recommended!

A very diverse and nice experience; the museum holds different themed exhibitions. Tween’s friendly with some interactive displays of art. I liked the children program where you can subscribe your child for being a member and even can have their reviews of the works displayed with I believe is a very smart move from the curators of the museum.
Ahmad — Google review
A truly world class museum within walking distance from the station. I was very fortunate to be able to see 5000 Years of Asian ceramic from the Anders collection. Highly recommended when you are in Groningen (which is of course a truly gorgeous city)
Dr S — Google review
This museum is very fun and sparks creativity! It is just big enough to feel like you've seen enough, but not too big that you get very tired before having seen the entire collection. The temporary Dream house exhibition was definitely the most fun part, but the permanent collections are also very inspired. Definitely worth the visit, especially with a student ticket (only 10 euros)
Felix E — Google review
One of the best museums in the Netherlands. Various art collections are outstanding, very well maintained museum. A must-visit experience in Groningen.
Cagatay ( — Google review
The new exhibition is very good, the collection of Frans.Haks. Finally got rid of the German curator who has been a headache for the past few years. I hope the new curator will arrange more good art exhibitions. Looking forward to it
Creator A — Google review
Decent with a museum pass, but not really worth the full price. Too much space is currently dedicated to children's art—it's even more niche than standard contemporary art. I did like that the old artworks are displayed in very modern interiors or alongside contemporary art—the contrast is stunning.
Olga D — Google review
Very nice place to spend time with a nice cafe inside. You can spend several hours there. Also, there are lots of masteclasses organised for children, so they will enjoy as well

Garden
Nature & Parks
The Prinsentuin, also known as the Prince's Garden, is a historic Renaissance-style garden situated in Groningen, Netherlands. Dating back to the early 17th century and located behind the Prinsenhof, this meticulously maintained garden boasts elegant flowerbeds, carefully designed hedges, and a striking sundial. Visitors are captivated by its romantic rose garden and the serene ambiance created by lush greenery.
I enjoyed so much coming to this garden! It’s free, peaceful, a must see if you visit Groningen 💯 It has many seats around, perfect to read a good book. I imagine during summer it’s even more magical!
Matilde S — Google review
A hidden gem in Groningen, open free to public. Best to visit in the summer to enjoy the flower, rose blooms and green fence and berceaus. The sundial gate dates back to 1731. Around July there is Dichters in de Prinsentuin which is an annual poetry festival in the garden
Ho T — Google review
If you like gardens, this is beautiful one to visit in the city center. Best time would be spring as it would be more pleasant and green Be aware it is a small garden, you would need max of 30 min to explore it
Soumaya K — Google review
A place that deserves its name. Maybe the best touristic attraction in Groningen.
ENS Y — Google review
Pretty garden that is free to view and it’s in the city centre. It’s well sign posted so easy to find
Hannah M — Google review
worth a short visit it's small but interesting and there's plenty to see
Ronan — Google review
Beautiful garden to visit on a sunny day. Entrance is free!
M L — Google review
A beautiful landscape enclosed garden. It was nice. Total time here was just a few minutes though, as the garden is not too large. If you are short on time, you can feel ok about not making the visit (though it is close to other landmark sites). A nice respite, which I guess is its intent.

Park
Nature & Parks
Noorderplantsoen Park is a must-see attraction in Groningen, offering splendid natural views and a serene atmosphere. This English-style park features charming canals, lush greenery, and serene ponds, providing a perfect setting for leisurely strolls or relaxation. It also serves as a lively venue for events like the Noorderzon Festival. The park offers facilities such as benches, seating areas, and a circular 1930 pavilion housing a cafe.
I love the nature, the fountains and the fact that there are many seating around the fountain and park itself. So too do I love the way the street lamps look like. All in all definitely an amazing place to spend some time
Gaboty G — Google review
My favorite park to walk/run, people watch and traverse to get to town. It's beautifully laid out but watch the cyclists and auto roads that cut through it. Very peaceful, especially early morning when most people aren't out yet.
Leslie V — Google review
Very beautiful, clam and cool park.
R K — Google review
A nice area to go for a walk and see many bird species. It is especially beautiful in the autumn
Michael D — Google review
a beautiful park with lakes and a fountain for walking and relaxing. There are recreation areas, you can drink coffee in the cafe.
Елена O — Google review
One of the first places that you must visit in GRONINGEN. Ideal choice for everyone want to enjoy nature , walks around the park with their dog , bike, have a coffee or even excersise . Very close to the city center with easy access with a car (there are free or paid parking sport at the sounding streets) or even better on a bike. Top!
Nikitas D — Google review
Walk or jog from pond to pond to explore the corners in the banks that tell the history. In the 17th century, this is where the city’s defensive walls and canals were dug. In the late 19th century, people found that the time had come for something new and an English landscape-style park was laid out on the former town ramparts. The canals were transformed into ponds. The Noorderplantsoen park developed from a sand ridge into a town rampart and distinguished garden to a venue for people of all ages to gather and enjoy art and culture. Whenever the weather allows, students spend their time lounging on the grass at the pond banks and young families enjoy the playground. There is also a café/restaurant that sells any refreshments you might need and in late August, the park always functions as the backdrop for Noorderzon, a grand festival with plenty of theatre, dance and musical performances. Though with current covid times, it is unsure if this festival will still be held

I used to visit Forum Groningen twice a week when I was an Erasmus student at the University of Groningen. This place is absolutely dope! There’s always something going on—events, activities, or just a great vibe. It’s also a perfect spot to study or chill with friends. Easily one of the most modern and lively buildings in the city. I have so many good memories here!
Ceren B — Google review
You can study here, and at the top floor, there’s a restaurant and café. The library is beautiful and affordable. The exhibition area is very classy and well designed, and I recommend it. The workshops on the middle floors are also very thoughtfully arranged.

Specialty Museums
The Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum, located in Groningen, Netherlands, is a captivating maritime museum that delves into the rich history of shipbuilding and shipping in the northern region. Housed in two historic buildings, visitors can embark on an engaging journey through 18 rooms filled with exhibits such as intricately carved replicas of historical landmarks and detailed models showcasing local shipyards' operations over the centuries.
One of the most beautiful buildings in Groningen. This is by far my favourite museum. Today I got to share this experience with my son and wife. Little narrow staircases, low ceiling, and all the characteristics what history could give you as well as the great service of the people that work there. A great representation of the Dutch and Groninger naval history.
Lucas K — Google review
The museum is not worth visiting. The ticket cost 8 euro which is very high compare to their very few exhibits. Northern Maritime Museum doesn't have any maritime experience. Outside they kept one ship which you can see before entering into the museum.Groningen has many more attractions to see except the museum. Not recommended for the foreign tourist. The lady staff was nice.
Samita M — Google review
Having been to the Amsterdam scheepvaart museum this one is a bit disappointing. The staff was really friendly and the location is really nice. The building is a historic building with authentic beams. Mind your head! However if you are here in Groningen it is worth the visit!
Rico S — Google review
Amazing, must visit museum. There is so much information about slavery and I was moved by the collection and stories. More and more people should visit this, it's worth it.
Ann K — Google review
Do you Like Boats Ships and marine culture 😇🌟 This cool museum has it🤗all about the Dutch Maritime History 🌞Fun and interesting exhibitions, and loads of items to touch and explore 🎉 And it's all set in one of the oldest buildings in Groningen 😎 They also have other stuff then boats😇I highly recommend you to go here👌🏼😋

Way larger than expected. Interesting collection, wide variety of models and artifacts. If you are a collector this place it great. If you're interested in more context you might be missing a little. All in all very entertaining and detail oriented.
Anne K — Google review
Wondrous. Good for every ship lover. A must see!
Sorin L — Google review
My boyfriend and I visited the museum, but it was a pity that we could only see part of it, since half of the museum is under repairs to modify it. But to make up for it the staff were excellent, very communicative, friendly, they offered tea and chatted with us and told us the history of the museum and gave advice on what to visit in Groningen. They made us feel very comfortable and we visited what we could and liked.

De Uurwerker is a vibrant eatery located in one of the oldest neighborhoods of Groningen, surrounded by university buildings. It's a popular spot for students, freelancers, teachers, and locals alike. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes including pizzas from a wood-fired oven and burgers. With open-air dining available on the terrace, it's an ideal place to enjoy a casual meal or drinks.
The food was good, and the service was warm and welcoming. I particularly loved the unique ambiance they've created with the building, blending modern decor with a vibrant, artistic vibe. The outdoor space is perfect for families, offering plenty of room for kids to play and watch local graffiti artists in action. It's a wonderful spot to enjoy a meal and soak in some creativity!

Nice alfresco dining area, especially during the day with good weather. We ordered pizza and beer. My partner had the tonno pizza, which tasted great. I ordered the Mungibeddu because I was looking forward to the nduja, but I couldn’t find any…I think the chef may have forgotten to add it. 😅
Molly T — Google review
Great food, friendly servers and just an overall chill place for food. I often come here for lunch and to work during the day. The terrace is great and away from the main road and inside the decor is super chill and vintage. I recommend the Lebanese bread. It's my all time favorite because it's a flavour explosion 💥
Odette J — Google review
We went there for lunch, the weather was ok and the terrasse is quiet not close to a street. I tested the Lebanese dish very tasty. The pizza are big if you are 2 little eaters you can share one.
Agnes S — Google review
Food is delicious and staffs are friendly. I had smoked salmon with bread and my friend had Club sandwich, both were very tasty!
Nhàn N — Google review
easy going atmosphere - normal price - quality food - rapid and friendly assistance
András Z — Google review
My colleagues and I went for a meal during peak lunch hours and had a wonderful experience! The service was somewhat slow due to how busy it was but finding a table was easy. The menu offers interesting and diverse options. I ordered the Lebanese bread and the ratio of seasoned veggies, hummus and bread was great! Overall a lovely lunch spot that's extremely close to the university buildings.
Iva Z — Google review
All in all a lovely restaurant! It's a big positive that the restaurant is away from the streetside, as it feels like there's a relaxed atmosphere thank to no traffic passing by which is something you do have in quite a few restaurants in Groningen. There are some excellent vegan choices available on the menu, and the food is presented very nicely and tastes just as good as it looks. The staff is friendly and keeps the place well organised, and keep it nice and tidy. Some minor negatives were that the cutlery could have been cleaner, and that the order of ingredients on the menu does not represent the proportions you end up receiving. For example for the Lebanese Bread it mentions as one of the first things the cherry tomatoes, but only has two of them on it that are cut in half. It's a minor critique but it is something that could be improved in order to further enhance the experience. Overall I had a lovely time and will definitely come back again! Would definitely recommend the Lebanese Bread, and the Sweet Potato Chips with Parmesan Cheese.

Located in Groningen, Netherlands, this brown cafe offers a cozy and airy atmosphere where guests can enjoy global comfort cuisine along with a selection of wine and cocktails. The menu features heart-warming stamppotten (stews) made with homemade ingredients, providing a taste of authentic flavors. With its reputation for delicious food and welcoming ambiance, Mr.
I love this place. It has such a nice vibe and great decor. The cocktail bar is my favorite. They also have a great variety of interesting cocktails. Not just the basics. I can recomend this place!
Larissa T — Google review
Very nice atmosphere and location, but unfortunately the place was not the cleanest. Tables had veins which were full of food leftovers, the floor was definitely sticky. The food tried was ok. Service was nice and friendly. At the entrance outside I saw the place is divided in two, the cocktail bar upstairs and the restaurant downstairs. Maybe trying the cocktails only would be a better idea for the future
Matteo — Google review
Location easy to find, just a few minutes walk from Grote Markt. Food was excellent, fast, hot and tasty. Ambience is fab. Facilities are clean. Price is reasonable. However, 2 things could improve - 1) inconsistent staff attitude, 1st service was excellent, helpful and friendly but the 2nd staff was rude and unhelpful. 2) takeaway option, we were offer plastic bags, to put pasta into a plastic bag is not really ideal...other than that, all good.
Dominique C — Google review
Extraordinary and highly recommended. Top atmosphere, service and food. Really nice. They have their own destillery in location with a fully automated cocktail bar. Award winning liquor served and sold in the bar. An exceptional experience.
Martin H — Google review
Worst service ever and so rude!!! I asked before ordering if the dish is spicy as my dad is not allowed to eat spicy. We were told no. However, when we received the dishes, not only it was spicy but also spicy chilli on top. Even the Greek salad was spicy!!! When trying to explain the situation we were told we Mich pay for the dish and they can make a new on for a discounted price. This is rude, unprofessional and will never visit this restaurant again. I never experienced such a bad customer service and poor service.
Michal K — Google review
We wanted the spritz deal, the waitress did not know what the deal was and was not very friendly at all. When we got our spritz’s, both of them had dead ants in them… The ants were floating on the top of the drink so the quality control is questionable… Our drinks were replaced with ant-free ones, but the experience was really disappointing and staff were not very apologetic. The terrace is nice though!
Kate L — Google review
Well-made and fresh food. Tastes good and they have nice seats and tables. We got the Bentobox, Fried Chicken and Rendang Croquettas. The Rendang Croquettas I recommend. 👌
Joost J — Google review
I got this place recommend by a friend. Safe to say, he has good recommendations. I ordered the Coconut Noodle, it was a bit to spicy for my liking but I still quite enjoyed it! For dessert I shared the Popcorn Ice Cream since we were both quite full but still wanted to try it. It was for sure an experience but a welcome one. Next time I will order the Grilled Watermelon as it also sounds quite interesting.

The venue underwent a radical renovation to create an ambiance where quality takes center stage. With its luxurious interior and friendly staff, Cappuvino provides a welcoming atmosphere for guests to enjoy their carefully curated selection of drinks and personalized menu options.
Great views, great prices, wonderful city watching. In full disclosure we didn’t eat here we just got coffee and drinks. It was only 25euro for three cocktail beverages and a flat white. If you can’t find a table you want ask someone or keep going up the stairs. Theres at least three levels. It was busy when we went at 1330 but people started clearing out a little bit around 1400.

Having been there a few times as it is one of few options in Groningen, I recommend to go for hot chocolates, drinks, shared plates/tapas, broodjes, and poke bowls. Rooftop terrace is lovely in the summer! However, service is very unfriendly and can overshadow tasty food. Needs improvement.
Matahari G — Google review
Good view place but the waiters were not friendly nor very service oriented. 6,50 for 6 tiny slices of baguette and tasteless dips where the salt had been forgotten. The place can also be a bit disorienting. Would not reccomand just take a snack from the snack corner.

It's very cozy and classy. The tostis and the sandwiches are legendary. The fried chicken was not good. The staff is friendly. I definitely recommend grabbing a bite here if you need a moment to recollect yourself with a cup of tea. The tea was great too.

One of the great cafes in Groningen. The place was cozy, and everything was on the spot, the vibes and view. You can enjoy a nice meal or a cup of coffee while watching the beautiful view of the vismarket. I definitely will visit again!

Excellent location just off the vismarkt. They serve reasonably priced coffee, alcoholic beverages and food, for example a small glass of Heineken on tap for €2,50. The rooftop is the best place to sit when the weather is nice though there are not many umbrellas for sun cover so don't forget sunscreen. Service is also excellent.

I have come to this place many times and it never disappoints. The staff is always on task and very attentive. The ramen, delicious! This last time I was there, they even had a ramen+a drink deal. Excellent food and service, the pho was phonomenal. Will probably repeat next time I come to Groningen
Alejandro B — Google review
The food was amazing! We had ramen, dim sum, and takoyaki, which were all exactly the taste we were looking for. We also tried out the apple gyoza and the buns filled with custard, those were great as well. The only thing is that the bathroom has a weird way of gendering the toilets, but for the rest it was very nice :) Will come back again!
Mary-Ann L — Google review
Had the classic shio and the Korean chicken. The chicken was great. Well fried but not overly greasy, a perfect balance of spices that coat each piece, and the nuts complete the dish. The shio ramen however doesn’t travel well. I would’ve given the place 5 stars if I had eaten there but in the 8 minutes it took me to walk back home to eat, the noodles had gotten way too soggy. The soup is packed separately, be sure to stir it all up before pouring as the best bits are at the bottom. The char siu and egg were the best part of this ramen. Service was quick. Portions generous. Prices were €0.50 more for each dish than stated on the menu. 🤷🏽‍♀️

We had the Balagan tasting menu and it was a really fun experience with loads of different food. It tasted really nice and allergies and preferences were taken into account. Service was quick and the staff nice. It can get a bit loud and warm inside. The bathrooms were clean.

Went for dinner with a group of 8. We had waited for about an hour before we got our first drinks and another 30 min before the first course. If the service and food serving was quicker it would have been a better experience. The food itself was great. We had the pitta and hummus, mackerel and for main we had short ribs which were amazing! The sweet potato frites with mayo and sate sauce was a bit of a weird combo
Rick N — Google review
If I could, I would give this place 6/5! Everything was perfect. We got the set menu and everything was delicious! Can’t wait to go back again 😄
Ann C — Google review
I was excited to go here but unfortunately long wait times tarnished the experience. 55 minutes wait for our first round of drinks, 1hr 20 before we had starters - over all 2.5 hours for 2 course meal and 2 rounds of drinks. Food was great but adjust your expectations about wait times before going.
Rachel W — Google review
The strongest aspect of this place is that it's so not one dimensional. They have great cocktails (incl. Non alc) on the menu, know how to make them, great wines and know what to serve, great food that fills you up and makes you feel happy. That in an atmosphere of plants and chill music. Awesome place in essence

Decided to try this place for the Love Brunch for the Valentine's day. Certainly happy we did so, as It was a great food/service experience. Everything was fresh and delicious, the meat cooked well, so it was a pleasure to eat. The desert was both creative and tasty too. People serving were very kind and we never had to wait long. Food quality/amount/price ratio was great. We will definitely be back for more.
