The Fusilier Museum in Bury is a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and those with a connection to the Lancashire Fusiliers. Situated across from the Bury Art Museum, this well-designed museum showcases uniforms, medals, and artifacts spanning over 300 years of the regiment's esteemed legacy. Interactive displays offer insights into significant conflicts such as the Battle of the Plains of Abraham and the Napoleonic Wars. The museum also pays homage to General James Wolfe.
Been taking my elder 2 kids over the years -now starting all over with my younger one..not gone inside due to closing time but will definitely come and have a look and have a good tour into history and man.. We do love passing by and just sitting down for a while and taking a breather!! A great garden of peace!! Me and my little boy finally went, a great tour, thoroughly enjoyed it, great for kids and family who loves exploring and finding!! Staff was very friendly and kind-didn't need to pay for the entry, so thanking you!! (Will go again to explore 2nd floor, couldn't see all due to appointment)!

I love the military museums, so today, I went to Bury. This is home to the Fusiliers Museum. A fantastic welcome from the member of staff on the desk. He spoke to my husband and our pal while I browsed the gift shop looking for a magnet. Please, guys, you need to get some with the name of the museum on 😊 Well, what a collection and what a building! Everything was spaced out nicely, no clutter that you find with these types of museums. Well done 👏 So much history to read and look at. I am so glad we went today, with being Easter weekend, it was quiet. We more or less had the place to ourselves, so we could take our time looking around. Once we had finished, we popped to Olive's for a coffee. The cafe is situated in the museum. Disabled access to each floor via a lift. Toilets are spotless, too. Please go and visit and take a walk around the well maintained garden of remembrance.

What a lovely museum. We went in the school break and kids got in for free 😊. Great things to look at and do. Has a little virtual shooting range for just £1 a go. Cute little shop too for little gifts. Lovely receptionist, very welcoming. If you are in bury must go here.

Fantastic visit! This is not a very big space but it is packed with interesting items. 3 floors! If you stopped and read everything, you could easily spend a day here. The entrance fee is under £5 and lasts for a year! Best value I have come across. I really did enjoy my experience here and wish I had had more time.

Fantastic museum telling the truly amazing over 300 years history of the Lancashire Fusiliers under its various different names. Fascinating collection of uniforms, medals and artefacts displayed with informative labels. The regiment were even awarded six Victoria Crosses in just one day during the dreadful Gallipoli Campaign. That is commemorated in the garden outside where there is also a WWI memorial that was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens who also designed the London Cenotaph. Excellent value and there's also a cafe on site.

Great history of the Fusilier regiment. Interesting information and pictures. The exhibits are broken up into eras and years and follows in order of conflicts.

Excellent museum ; you can easily spend an half day if you like to discover all the details. You find an historical side of the wars and warriors through the ages. There is as well often an exhibition about different topics, last time I've been in it was regards Kosovo 30 years celebration. The ticket entrance is for one year, you can go back whenever you wish within the year. There is as well a large memory shop and a restaurant.
Charlotte P — Google review
Nice place. I’ve been a couple of times specifically for the comic con meet and greets held here but the actual museum is great to look at as well. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a café located upstairs above the entrance area.

Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre, housed in a grand Edwardian building, offers a warm and friendly environment to explore the cultural heritage of Bury. The museum showcases international and local art, including works by renowned artists like LS Lowry and Edwin Henry Landseer. Visitors can also enjoy the Bury Art Shop and Tinas Tearoom on-site.
Such an amazing museum! First time visiting Bury today, with a family member and, this was a really worthwhile trip. I enjoyed thoroughly seeing the Turner Paintings, alongside the excellent video installation and a breathtaking painting, "War", by Anna Lea Merritt, which powerfully emphasises the need for peace in times past and present. I highly recommend this museum for solo and group visits, as it is a gem in the wonderful town of Bury.

Excellent museum with many fascinating artefacts and information about Bury and the local areas rich history. Some wonderful artworks in the galleries. There are clearly many events and activities that also take place in this attractive building. All this and it's free entrance though donations are most welcome.

Didn't know this existed until visiting Fusilier museum opposite. Big shop, modern exhibition, school days exhibit. Family history/archives? Big spaces, sculptures and paintings. Cafe closed when we were there.

Nice place, I took a service user with dementia and we had a wander round. It has some interesting things to look at although it is a bit sparse. The museum bit downstairs is good, there is a bit more to look at there. I have nothing to complain about though as it is free. The cafe is very nice and worth popping in to.

We had an event last night at the Art Museum which was a triumph. The staff went over and above to make it a success. We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful building filled with great exhibitions. It has a warm atmosphere and a real community feel. I can highly recommend it for your next event. Steve Walton was so helpful. Thanks to the whole team.

What a fabulous building, great architecture inside and out. Has some beautiful door detailing and splendid windows. Free to visit, donations welcome. Shop. Lift to floors. Well looked after with varied collections on display, something for everyone. Welcoming, helpful chap at reception.

Overall a lovely experience . For inclusion and accessibility it's great that entry is free . The building itself is magnificent and a number of art works within are grand too. Good to see the more modern pieces so that art isn't fixed but evolving and dynamic . The ( local history) museum section is rather nice, if small . I think I'd liked to have seen a section on the religious heritage of the town especially Jewish influence . Great shop and art shop I thought . Tearoom is presently closed until new franchise . I hope this will be awarded soon and well-marketed to get people into the gallery and the teashop. Reasonable toilets if a bit limited on space . I asked a number of people where the gallery was in the town. None knew. The gallery would do well to find more strategies to reach local residents and target groups to maximize connection with the gallery and it's treasures. I suspect the life drawing advertised is a step in that direction. Similarly, I thought the staff were hard work to engage with and lacking in warmth to guests, though helpful and efficient . Overall, a pleasant visit and if I happened to be in Bury again I'd probably visit a 2nd time ( after a visit to Jolly Roger for food where the staff were warm and customer facing from which the gallery could learn ) . If you're local, do support this gallery and museum . It has huge potential .

The East Lancashire Railway, a historic steam railway, has been an integral part of the Irwell Valley for almost two centuries. Spanning 12 miles through picturesque Lancastrian landscapes, it connects charming villages and bustling Victorian towns. The railway hosts various family-friendly events such as the popular Peppa Pig event and offers a range of options to cater to different preferences.
We are just back from another wonderful trip on the ELR having attended the Murder Mystery night which was brilliant. Top class entertainment from a talented production company who really worked hard to keep us all engaged and in total suspense. Not only was the evening intriguing but it was also highly amusing. This is a class outfit. The food and service were also excellent. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and the food quality was exceptional. The train was stunning as was the steam engine. All in all highly recommended. We will be back……Thank-you

Visited on the 200 years weekend which was very busy but easy to get on various trains though out the day, except the vintage cream tea train as it only had two carriages. Some lovely interaction with the actors on the train and friendly volunteers all day. Good long ride with interesting towns to visit along the way.

I myself have the profoundly grateful pleasure in visiting the award winning east lancashire railway 'in-person' especially to the brilliantly imposing bury 'bolton street' rly station - the very hub of greater manchester's (and lancashire's) premier heritage railway that dates back 1846, Also enjoyably rode along the terrific 12 miles of pleasantly restored ex-cross country train track between heywood and rawtenstall - via bury, burrs country park... summerseat, across brooksbottom, onto ramsbottom, pass stubbins and Irwell vale along the course of two rivers roch and irwell in-between, My most favourite stations along the ELR... are bury bolton street, ramsbottom, and rawtenstall, including irwell vale, I in-fact like/love all the stations, especially the halt at burrs country park out there too, As with most heritage railways across our beloved united kingdom, the ELR is successfully well-run/properly well-operated by a fine bunch of volunteers, staff, and other helpfully assisting people who do a great job in running this lancastrian heritage railway that reaches it's 180th anniversary in 2026 by the way. I even recommend the east lancashire railway, for the surrounding scenery, the stations, the destinations, the trains of whom hauled by both steam & heritage diesel traction - all full of character & uplifting nostalgia to behold. My very first visit to the ELR was back in october 2005, followed by another visit of whom a revisit to heywood in 2006, a full revisit to the ELR in october 2011, with my last visit (hopefully NOT the last) being october 2023 during the spectacular autumn steam gala out there.... I hope to revisit the ELR 'in-person' one day.

An excellent evening's entertainment, I wondered how a play was going to be performed in a 1950s railway buffet car, but it was well thought out, and the actors did a great job,a very versatile group. The meal was excellent, as well as the service given by the very young staff, who were all very efficient and extremely polite. This experience was bought for us as a gift but we'll be returning soon to try another mystery murder trip. Can thoroughly recommend this experience.

Going back in time. Best £50 I spent for years. Forget going abroad, packed lunch and flask of tea. Absolutely brilliant time out. Met some top people from ELR. This is what made Britain Great.

If you enjoy traveling not only through space but also through time, I highly recommend a visit to the East Lancashire Railway. Here, you can ride in charming vintage carriages and listen to fascinating stories shared by the passionate railway staff. Along the route, you'll pass through picturesque towns and villages, each offering its own unique charm. The surrounding landscapes are stunning, and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy delicious local food. Be sure to also check out the nearby transport museum, which houses an impressive collection of classic cars, trucks, and buses—an excellent addition to your historical journey!

Where to begin? (and I'm sorry it's taken us a year to realise we'd not written a review!) We had the most magical Steampunk wedding at the ELR last year! Lorna and her team were incredible, everyone was as excited for our day, as we were! Lorna made planning everything an absolute breeze, she made sure we had time to decide each detail, but never overwhelmed us.Each tweak or idea we had, was met with excitement. From our unusual haggis choice for the evening buffet, to all of the bubble guns for our guests.Nothing was an issue at all. We wanted an intimate ceremony, with just immediate family, then a large celebration in the evening. The Ramsbottom platform was absolutely perfect for the ceremony and drinks reception, all the gorgeous details creating a beautiful atmosphere. The observation saloon carriages were comfortable and decadent. It was simply a magical experience to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea whilst riding on a steam train! Our evening reception on the Bolton Street platform was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious and the platform looked incredible. From start to finish, our day ran like clockwork and was truly magical. We cannot thank you all enough for creating the perfect day!

Fantastic market, this was our first time visit and now we’ve been I can’t understand why we have never been before ! But will definitely be returning, the market has a massive selection of stalls , plenty of places to eat, the adjacent shopping mall is very large and a great selection of shops. The market has great transport links , we used the metro link which is located right next to the market , would not hesitate in recommending a visit.

Great market and lots of choice, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Been replacing the supermarkets and going here for my fresh fruit and veg, definitely recommend. Also got some good lunch spots.

Absolutely loved this place. It is HUGE and has everything you could possibly want. I will definitely be going back again. It also has benches to sit on which was great as I can't walk far and kept needing to sit down and they also have public toilets which were surprisingly clean. Also very good for disabled access. The cheeses there are gorgeous and they always have bits for you to try before you buy, like lots of other stalls too.

Bury Market's reputation is legend across the Northwest and beyond, offering a labyrinth of indoor and outdoor zones where stallholders sell breads, pastries, cheeses, clothes/textiles, meat's and seafood, and many many more commodities. The market features cafe's and eateries which are augmented by adjacent town centre restaurants, and as long as Bury Market persists, and perhaps thereafter, there will always be Bury's Black Pudding, for which perhaps the market's most famous stalls are recognized.

Open 3 days a week brimming with bargains plus the mill gate shopping centre by the side of the market. This is how I remember how the markets use to be. A great day out and plenty of places to grab a spot of lunch. The traders are all extremely friendly. Grabbed some nice bury black pudding , free range eggs, meat from the indoor butchers, all at a really good price. Highly recommended Bury Market theres something for everyone. Only by people coming to a market and supporting it does it secure the long term success for the future

Can't complain! You could find everything you want. Textiles, CDs / DVDs, vinyls, stuff for daily uses of course offer different style of food as well. There is a Hongkonger's grocery called "Moliuliu Store" which also serve food as well.

Enjoyed being amongst the people in the market. I arrived on a coachtrip for the day. Our own town centre is clinging on by it's fingertips, so quiet you can hear the finger nails scaping as they try desperately to hold on. The market is big, full of interest, and I loved the multicultural feel. We can get along very well. Plenty of places for a cup of tea etc, and close to the town centre shops.

Art installations here and there. there is a pub and a small ice cream shop/cafe. Had take away from the cafe and ate at one of the many picnic tables. Worth a visit.

The Holcombe Tap offers an impressive selection of small plates, with a diverse and high-quality menu. The options available are both varied and of excellent standard. We chose to indulge in five different dishes between the two of us, and were pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes.
Great little find Lovely cosy style pub with fantastic food & attentive staff. We tried the hash browns, prawns, chicken strips and cauliflower. All were really lovely, dog friendly with a little outside area. We will be back for certain

Had this place recommended for their Salt & Pepper chips. Had a beer & Latte on arrival - lager was crisp & the Latte a good size. Ordered the sausage roll which I thought very small for price - my wife had had the chicken skewer sandwich which she found fantastic & filling. Deserts were a good size and tasty the ice cream was fresh. Great service & atmosphere with open fire. I sometimes find with tapas places portions very small & pricey as with the Cumberland & chorizo sausage roll.

Six of us booked for Christmas Eve afternoon, the place looked stunning. Staff really really helpful and accommodating for one of our party who has serious coeliac disease. They were very busy but we didn’t have to wait too long for our dishes which were really tasty. The only tiny gripe was the croquettes were a little dry. Nobody went home hungry and we would certainly visit again if we’re in the area. Many thanks for a lovely visit

An outstanding tapas menu. The choice and quality are excellent. We opted for 5 small plates between 2 people, and the portion sizes are generous. The specials menu included tempura chicken thighs, and we also opted for Short beef ribs, buttermilk chicken, fish goujons, and homemade hummus with warm pitta breads. The quality of the food was excellent and well presented. The staff were attentive and very friendly. The prices were extremely fair. There is a car park only a 30-second walk away or also nearby street parking. We look forward to returning and would like to try the Sunday dinner.

Fantastic place. So much to look at visually. Great service and choice. Wine was very reasonably priced at £21 for a bottle of Tempranillo. We choice 3 tapas with a side of garlic and cheese fries and macaroni cheese. All delicious. We finished our wine on the comfy couches near the window people watching. Very easy to find the place in the centre of Bury just a short walk from the bus station and metro. Highly recommend.

I love this place. It’s always inviting and the atmosphere is so charming and relaxed. There is never a rush to remove you from the table and the food is always delicious and the tea always hot. You can order at your table via QR code or order at the front. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It’s just such a vibe. It won’t disappoint.

Eaten 3 times here in the past month as they have a big menu and loads of choice for vegan and also gluten free. Good offers on midweek too for tapas, I recommend the vegan burrito, cauliflower, patatas bravas and all the vegan desserts. Although it seems they don’t always have a vegan option available which is a shame as it’s the only place in bury I know of where I have a choice that isn’t sorbet! Would be nice if they kept the choices topped up! Still will be going again, staff are so lovely and friendly and the decor is cute!

Great birthday experience for the mother in law and family. Superbly ran pizza express in a lovely location. Food was fast and delicious. We were served by Polly and others from the team. They really went out to make our experience an absolute pleasure. Normally a pizza fanatic I tried the lasagna today, absolutely delicious, hot fresh and tasty. Lovely personalised birthday dessert platter was a really nice local touch. 10 out of 10 well done, clearly a engaging and close knit team delivering excellence!

Very friendly staff, they were really lovely and helpful. One of the staff members even gave me a tip on which flour to use with the cook book I received for free as a Gold Rewards member, to make the best pizzas. Romana base is incredible, as well as the dough balls, and all of the food really. Looking forward to many more visits. Thank you. :-)

Nestled in the heart of the bury, Pizza Express offers a delightful escape into the world of Italian cuisine, and my recent visit certainly did not disappoint. Arriving a generous 45 minutes early for our reservation, I was pleasantly surprised to be seated by Tina immediately—a testament to the restaurant’s efficient management and welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance at Pizza Express strikes a perfect balance between casual and inviting. The warm lighting and contemporary decor create a cozy yet vibrant setting, ideal for both family gatherings and intimate dinners. As I settled into my seat, I was greeted by the friendly smile of our server, Tina, whose attentiveness and enthusiasm set a positive tone for the evening. Now, onto the food—an absolute highlight of the experience. I opted for their signature pizza, and it was nothing short of perfection. The crust was thin and crispy, providing the ideal foundation for a generous topping of fresh ingredients. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality. My companion chose the lasagna, which was rich and hearty, with layers of pasta perfectly cooked and enveloped in a luscious, savory sauce. It was evident that great care was taken in the preparation of each dish. Overall, my experience at Pizza Express was exceptional. The combination of friendly service, delectable food, and a welcoming ambiance made for an unforgettable evening. Whether you're a pizza aficionado or a lasagna lover, this restaurant is sure to satisfy your cravings. I left with a full belly and a smile, already planning my next visit to this Italian gem.

What a lovely evening we had, Ricky went above and beyond to make it the best he could, was super accommodating and even found me my new favourite! A credit to the team! Cheers

We had a lovely time celebrating a special 8th birthday! The Pizza Express team made a fuss of Henry and allowed us to bring our own cake which Granny baked (the regulations are that it must not contain nuts but other PE chains might vary) …. the pizza went down well too and the summer menu is fairly priced! Henry had a gorgeous time and Lily was even provided with a high chair for her new doll Rosie! 🎈🍕🎱

The food never turned up. A guy that worked for just eat asking for the code did saying that it would be delivered shortly. My wife was naive enough to give him the code. I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else. The guy should be named and not able to pick more food up from anywhere. Disgraceful. I put this in as surely somebody can control who picked the food up. Hope they enjoyed the free food that we paid for. Shocking really.

The food was edible, staff were friendly but slowly. You got your desert but had to wait for spoons. I was told 20% off total bill but had to tell them how much the bill should be as tried over charging me after discount. Manager was good and corrected it and the young girl who i queried it with was very polite. I will not be visiting here again though unfortunately

The large pizza I ordered arrived on time, but it was pretty soggy and lukewarm. I wouldn't serve this to a dog. And you're paying someone for this? Sorry

If you're on the hunt for a fantastic dining experience, look no further than Eat n Chill. This gem has quickly become a favorite among locals and visitors alike, thanks to its mouthwatering burgers and generous portions. Whether you prefer beef or chicken, there's an impressive variety of options that can be customized to suit your taste buds. The quality is top-notch, making it a standout choice in Bury's food scene. Many patrons rave about the exceptional service and timely delivery, even during busy weekends.
I've been Eat N Chill over 5 times now and it's always the highlight of my trips to Bury. The burgers and fries are exceptional quality, the best burgers I've ever had for a great price! Puts most fast food places to shame. I only wish I lived close enough for delivery but then again I'd eat it all the time!

Disgusted. Burger wasn't fully cooked, pink in the middle. Had coleslaw on even though I opted not to have it. Went in the bin. Milkshake was watery, chips OK. Wrong fizzy drink. Used to love the Shay Shay Burger, been ordering from here for a few years. The ingredients have obviously changed and not for the better. Really cheap nasty burger patty and chicken but charging a premium price. Not happy and won't be ordering from here again.

Unfortunately with most fast food places you find, they either change management or loose something overtime, whatever has happened here all the quality has gone. It used to be amazing, a proper greasy goey burger that hit the spot, now it's just the name I fear. This is a premium costed establishment and frankly it's terrible. If I got a free meal from here I'd bin everything but the chips as the rest are not worth saving for starving animals let alone people. Chips were good, but 2 portions missing. 2x Big boy burgers, old and left to go cold, before pickup. We asked specially for the coleslaw, as it used to be home made red cabbage slaw and was amazing, now, cheap store bought rubbish. Jalapeno poppers, still cold - not cooked long enough, cheap bulk bought rubbish. Fish fingers - how you screw these up I don't know, cold and soggy. This will be the last time we order from here.

Used to order from here and the food was amazing. Now it's awful. Not one item on our order was right..either missing items or the wrong item all together. Food quality was poor at best. Won't be ordering here anymore. Really disappointed.

Me and my best friend order from this place minimum once a month, if you want THE BEST burgers in Bury this is the only place you need, cooked to perfection!! Sides are to die for too! The all the meat burger is amazing! So many topping you can add too, 1000% would recommend 👌🏻

Love these burgers. Massive portions, tasty, loads to choose from. Beef or chicken. You can ask for things to be taken off or added depending on preferences, iv only eaten in. But eaten in a few times n I'll go back. Avg is £11 for burger chips and drink each. So it's more of a treat but it's definitely worth it.

Was extremely disappointed by my recent order. Have always loved the food and was happy to pay the extra for the deliciousness. Last night the burgers were overcooked and rock hard. Chips were underdone. Since they added the curries etc the burgers seem to have been overlooked Such a shame
