Museums
Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penzance is a Victorian home that showcases art and exhibits on the history of West Cornwall. The museum also features a park, making it an ideal destination for history enthusiasts and art lovers alike. Currently, the museum is hosting a captivating exhibition titled "Luminaries: Victorian Photographers in West Cornwall," offering rare insights into the local community during the late 19th and early 20th centuries through unique images of west Penwith.
This was a superb spot to visit, offering £4 entry for under 26s! Artwork is shown of not just seagulls but the other birds of Cornwall too like Gannets, artwork shows sailors at sea and the cliffs themselves some pieces look so realistic it is almost like being there. Appreciate Hilda Quick's detailed map of what to expect across Cornwall and the stuffed birds in glass displays, there are even crafted models of ones in different poses! Farmland artwork is beautiful capturing the rural areas and there is info about farming's history in the county, the model of a place of worship is really well done itself. Shop windows are marvellously replicated and tourism industry is dived into from the bikes to railways, paintings also capture Cornish society expertly!

This place had been on my to visit list, especially with being a fan of the local style of art and Penzance history. There was an environmental themed exhibition taking place, with the artwork chosen for display reflecting the theme. Downstairs, and a room upstairs contains the gallery with the rest being local history. I love visiting local museums as they are so unique as they reflect that specific area. I was very surprised however that there wasn't a display about the Branwell family and their connection to the Brontë sisters, besides the fact that house was formally owned by a member of the Branwell family (and this is mentioned a few times) There is an entry fee (£8 for adults)

A delightful gem of a gallery with interesting rolling exhibitions, we loved the one about Birds- some really beautiful and thought provoking artworks. Great for kids too!
Jessica A — Google review
Always fabulous exhibitions, the current one about birds is great. Also my favourite painting "the rain it raineth ever day". Helpful and informed staff, nice cafe, though too busy when we visited, too much rain to sit outside!

Total gem of a gallery and museum. I was aware of the Newlyn School but didn't know much, now I'm a huge fan of their work. Yes, it is fairly small but if you spend time reading the information and actually studying the art you can spend a good amount of time there. And the museum section is just as interesting.

I went to see fisherman's friends in penlee Park a lovely place really enjoyed it

Wonderful local gallery that was purchased in 1946 by public subscription to be a War Memorial, which would also house the Town’s historic and art collections. Very friendly staff and volunteers. Excellent cafe with artisan delights, great soup, home baked scones and amazing puddings.

I really enjoyed my visit but was a tiny bit disappointed with the art exhibited. The small gift shop had a good variety of postcards, as well as other items. The café was doing a roaring trade & I sat outside in the sunshine with a local beer.

Lido
Jubilee Pool in Penzance is a stunning open-air lido with notable art deco architecture dating back to 1935, giving it an exotic feel right on the beach. The pool offers a beautiful and historic experience in the charming Cornish port town of Penzance. In addition to visiting Jubilee Pool, visitors can explore other attractions such as Chapel Street, The Exchange Gallery, Penlee House, Morrab Gardens, and Trengwainton Gardens.
After five days of dancing and hiking, I really needed to unwind. The thermal pool was delightful with an hour being the right amount of time. I was able to stretch and relax. Not too crowded and plenty of places to change clothes. Lifeguards on duty seem to be observing the action. I was there at the end of the day when they were covering the thermal pool after we were leaving. Felt safe, leaving my items in the sitting area while I swam.
Sarah — Google review
We have had the best morning and lunchtime at the Jubilee Pool today. It was lovely to hang out on the poolside, ordering coffee take away from the cafe and watching our children playing in the pool. We all came together for a picnic lunch only for them to return water-side once again. Great family day out.

Lovely location - an art deco pool with coloured changing room doors set above the sea below. A larger pool for swimmers and a smaller pool for others. 2 lifeguards on duty and a cafe with inside and great views from outside seating over sea towards st Michael’s Mount.

The Geo pool is so warm! Walk in a bath. It was a quiet area where you could just lie on your back and float in the salt water, looking up at the sky. Perfect. We could have been anywhere in the world. The sauna was good with a hide away corner. Changing places and lockers in there. Booked in on arrival.

Fantastic pool, with friendly staff and great facilities. Geothermal pool was so warm and clean, and the main pool was invigorating, but great too! Lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. So pleased to have been able to visit, and would definitely return. A fantastic asset to Penzance and huge credit and congratulations to the team making it the success it is🤩

What a treat! We soaked in the geothermal pool under glorious sunshine at the end of September—I'd highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot. Afterwards, there were plenty of clean changing rooms and a wonderful warm shower, which was the perfect end to the visit.
Mike B — Google review
Great visit using the geothermal pool and the main pool alternately. What a great resource you have Penzance. Cafe was superb.
Carole H — Google review
Booked a lovely swim in the geothermal pool, it wasn't crowded and it was lovely and warm. We also swam in the main pool and it was much colder but also great to do. It isn't a modern building so there aren't hairdryers and normal indoor swimming changing rooms, or lockers. But around the pool are changing rooms, showers and toilets. So come prepared. You need to keep an eye on your belongings while swimming. There is a gift shop which has some nice pieces to remember your swim at the pool. There is also a lovely cafe which does very tasty food. Loved our visit and would recommend.

Garden
Nature & Parks
Nestled on the outskirts of town, Trengwainton Garden is a 16th-century country home with stunning gardens that offer scenic woodland trails, exotic plants, and breathtaking views across Mount Bay and the Lizard. Originally established in the 19th century, it flourished in the early 20th century when exotic plants from Asia were introduced.
This isn't a massive garden but we visited when the azaleas, camellias, and rhododendron were out and it was beautiful. Easy access paths for wheelchairs or pushchairs too which is good to find. The cafe only had a limited menu on the day we went as they had been busier than anticipated but the food was nice and service excellent. As most NT places these days refreshments are fairly expensive but not too extortionate. Gift and book shops were well stocked. Very enjoyable few hours indeed.
T H — Google review
Beautiful garden just outside Penzance. Woodlands, walled garden and a breathtaking terrace views across Mounts Bay to The Lizard. There is a shop and as always a cafe for refreshments. If you're disabled with limited mobility they have partnered with Countryside mobility allowing you the use of their electric Tramper Buggy for a small fee of £3/day or £5 for 2 wks if you plan visiting other attractions they support.
Deborah T — Google review
This is a lovely garden with some lovely plants and views. It's easy to do a nice circular walk which takes in all of the garden. There's a nice mixture of woodland and formal gardens. The gardens are fairly well maintained although some pruning is needed to open up some of the paths which would be difficult to access if you were in a wheelchair. On the map all of the benches are marked which is really handy and I've not seen that before. There's a lovely cafe seeing delicious cakes, lunches and drinks. Free carpaking is also a bonus.

Beautiful gardens and views. This is an idyllic garden tucked away a few miles from Penzance. The Summer of Play meant loads of activities for children and families. Really friendly staff and a lovely cafe. This is a great outside escape for a few hours.

Restaurant
Fish and seafood restaurant
The Shore Restaurant in Penzance is a reservations-only gem that offers a set menu of local seafood with optional drink pairings. Scottish owner and chef Bruce Rennie, previously from a Michelin-starred restaurant, personally ensures the freshness and fullness of flavor in every dish. The seafood is sourced from a sustainable co-operative of fishermen, and the menu evolves regularly to showcase mouthwatering dishes with a Japanese twist.
Just go. Bruce is an ARTIST: everything we ate on the tasting menu (see below) was locally produced, passionately explained, and made to perfection by a friendly, funny, decorated expert chef. Be sure to understand going in that this is a tasting menu, made and served by a single person: expect to spend a few hours here, turn up on time, and that it's an experience rather than a "regular" restaurant. The individual portions aren't going to be mains in their own right (but there *are* seven of them - we rolled out when we were finished): the focus is on creativity and getting the best out of every ingredient (all of which were without exception high quality). Truly an amazing experience; we'll be back again!
Chris F — Google review
A must visit for anyone into amazing fresh fish and seafood. Bruce is quite the artist! Great atmosphere around a large communal table. Every dish is fully explained in terms of provenance and ingredients. We had a truly wonderful experience and will definitely return.
James M — Google review
We visited The Shore to celebrate our first wedding anniversary in August and Bruce did not disappoint. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed and the service provided by Bruce was faultless. The food was amazing, some of the best fish we've ever eaten and each dish came with an explanation of where it came from and how it was cooked. I'm not a fan of shellfish but the smoked fish custard with mussels was my favourite of the night, as well as the rosemary posset. If you enjoy good food I would thoroughly recommend booking, it was 100% worth it.
Mia D — Google review
What Bruce Rennie is doing here is truly special: a one-man band hosting a limited number of guests in a very tasteful dinner club kind of atmosphere with seafood prepared at highest level of skills with regional and seasonal produce of wonderful quality. Don’t miss it!
Jochen H — Google review
Absolutely amazing experience. I love fish and seafood but when Bruce performs his magic it is a whole new level!!! Mind blown, every mouthful performs a dance on your tongue. Cooked in such amazing innovative ways. He claims this is a tasting menu but compared to the usual "tasting menus" these portions are very generous.
Beks R — Google review
Dinner at The Shore is something I will think about for a long time to come. Bruce Rennie is an absolute master in the kitchen and his effervescent personality allows strangers at the table to quickly become friends over the meal. He said he wanted the evening to feel like he was hosting friends for a dinner party and he did exactly that. The meal consisted of seven courses, all seafood except for the dessert course. A rosemary posset was served that was truly a revelation. Every course was phenomenal, but Bruce's smoked tail ends with mussels and roe is a menu staple for a reason. Do not bother looking at other restaurants - go ahead and book now. And if you want to take a piece of the evening home with you, be sure to grab a copy of Bruce's cookbook. It is just as thoughtful and beautiful in composition as his meals.
Annie M — Google review
Wow. Absolutely unbelievable experience, one of the best hospitality dining experiences we have ever had. Bruce’s restaurant deserves its own Michelin category. Every element of each dish had a compelling story with flavours to match. Bruce ran the show with subtle charm, great wit and casual elegance. I studied Hospitality at university and have worked in the industry for 15 years and can hands down say this now my favourite restaurant! We will be telling all our friends, family and colleagues about this hidden gem. Don’t go to 2x average restaurants, instead save your money for this experience. Thanks Bruce, you have created not only a magical moment, but an everlasting memory for us.
Rowan B — Google review
Chefs are usually far too busy to venture from their kitchens to the front of the house, but at The Shore in Penzance, the irrepressible Bruce Rennie has no choice, since he runs the restaurant single-handedly. And boy! Does he run it in style! The set-up is for guests to sit at a communal table which can accommodate a maximum of ten diners. The night we were there there were only four of us. This gives the occasion the atmosphere of an intimate dinner party. Bruce greets you, seats you, and then explains how things will work. The menu varies from day to day, depending on what ingredients are freshest and seasonal. But suffice to say, you will be presented with the freshest of Newlyn-caught fish and other local ingredients, all from trusted suppliers or, indeed, from Bruce’s own garden and polytunnel. Bruce announces each course and explains the choice of fish in the dish and why he has prepared it with the various, ingenious, and delicious flavour combinations. He even knows the name of the boat that caught the fish! We kicked off with Bruce’s freshly baked bread, which he serves with his own cultured and churned butter, which is above and beyond necessity, but which is absolutely delicious. Our tasting menu continued with dishes where the star ingredients were, in order: line-caught squid, blue fin tuna, oysters, smoked fish with mussels, hake, and, finally bass. And for pud, a lemon sorbet, followed by a lemon “cheesecake”, made with Bruce’s home-grown Cornish lemons! We also had the wine flight to accompany each dish. Bruce gives his rationale for the choice of each wine to accompany each dish. He is clearly an oenophile, because every choice was excellent, and I recommend choosing the flight to maximise the dining experience. Bruce’s knowledge of and explanation of his taste choices is superb and is a real complement to the meal. How he manages to juggle running one of the country’s finest kitchens with his front of house performance is a mystery to me. But long may he continue to do so. If you are in Cornwall you simply must give his restaurant a visit!

Seafood restaurant
Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar is a modern seasonal bistro located in a historic pub dating back to 1717. Chef Ben Tunnicliffe has transformed the venue into a cozy locals' inn offering some of the best seafood in the country. The menu features an array of fish and shellfish, showcasing the freshest catch from Newlyn's fishermen based on seasonal availability.
Exquisite in every way! An absolutely delicious restaurant. Every dish we tried was made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, prepared with a level of care that you can taste in every bite. The food was simply outstanding — full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was also impeccable: attentive, friendly, and always with a smile. You can tell they truly enjoy what they do, and it shows in the entire experience. A place I’ll definitely return to and one I wholeheartedly recommend. A true culinary gem!

Excellent value for money with a great variety of fresh seafood on offer. Visited on a Bank Holiday Monday, there was a small queue outside, but the wait wasn’t too long. The food was delicious and served in reasonable portions. The John Dory was outstanding, with an unbeatable garlic butter. Will definitely be returning.

Fantastic food, local fish and seafood doesn't get any better! Really friendly staff and service. Queues outside as the place is so popular but they were still able to seat us very quickly and our food was brought out to us really quickly and was lovely fresh and hot. The deep fried squid was super tasty, monkfish burger, crab salad and local hake with capers and samphire. Highly recommend everything including the elderflower cider!
Peter D — Google review
A lovely chill seafood restaurant with amazingly friendly staffs. The atmosphere is good, though a bit crowded. Scallops tastes amazing with dedicated texture and harmonious sauce. The only drawback is the lobster, which was a bit over-cooked and the texture goes firmer that I expected
Michael J — Google review
Mackerel Sky Seafood Bar is well worth a visit. We arrived at 2.30pm to take a look and were greeted on the kerb by the waitress who showed us to the table outside on the pavement and put a heater on ( we preferred pavement as we have an unpredictable puppy ) The portion sizes are small as it's a taster menu so select several. We had crispy Squid, grilled Monkfish and grilled Mackerel, all were cooked to perfection, the best lunch we have had in years. The service is definitely 5 star as well as the food. Yes, it's pricey as others have said however you can't get fresher fish than being next to the harbour, straight from the boat to the kitchen. You can't book a table just turn up, we went on a week day afternoon in October. Honestly well worth trying.
A L — Google review
Fantastic little place - you cant book a table and it operates via a queue system outside (this works best if you're in a couple as likely to get seated sooner than in a large group) however we didnt wait long at all. Food was delicious and fresh (the hake was like butter and melted in your mouth) staff are friendly and service was very efficient. It was full when we got there and I can understand why its so popular. All the food was cooked perfectly. There is also a carpark nearby (basically across the road), which we discovered was free from Mon-Sun after 4pm til 9pm - perfect for an evening meal. Highly recommend.

Absolutely fantastic experience and worth every penny. We went on a Sunday and it was busy but they were still able to find us a very good seat. All staff were friendly and relaxed and knew a lot about the menu. The food was incredible, so fresh and the flavours were perfect. We had one of the specials, the smoked mackerel pate, the John Dory and the crab salad and we loved it. Would highly recommend it if you have the budget. It's worth the treat if you like local seafood.

So we visited out of season and mid week so wasn't difficult to get a Table, the Waiter did say it's always advised to book and the place isn't massive so I'd probably advise the same, as for the menu there's a pretty good mixture of Fish meat and veggie dishes, with a Specials bord to boot with Fresh local fish, so obviously I ordered a Burger 😅, food came out very fast small portion of skin on fries and the burger well cheese bacon veggies. It was Nice and well cooked but a little uninspired, There was no flare or style. Followed it with a chocolate almond Sponge.... Ummm yeah was the same tasted ok just not memorable. All n all the food is pleasant the waiter was brilliant didn't really have a atmosphere.

Excellent place to eat! Warm atmosphere and service. I had one the sea food bisque, which was a special. It was very tasty with fresh fish. Well worth a visit.
Amit G — Google review
Avoid this restaurant. I ordered a fish n chip and a burger takeaway over phone being 1hr 30 mins earlier as a treat to a long journey home. Its really a rip off as it costs 24 pounds for a simple fish n chips and 18 pounds burger which doesnt come with fish. Pictures really justify the quality of the food. I mentioned specifically food had to be ready at 1:45pm as we have a train to catch. The receptionist reassured me the food will be on time as they have around 90 mins to get the food ready. And there we were, arrived at 1:40pm to get the food. When paying, I asked to waive the extra portion of chips. They said they couldnt as they've made it which made completely sense. However, it was around 1355 that finally the food was ready. Being pannicking, the manager was really helpful by saying "You will be fine, still get plenty of time." I ran to the train station as fast as I could and was glad I did as the train took off 5 mins earlier. Anyway, just a personal horrify experience. The restaurant seemed nice. But for the food I had gotten, I would completely recommend 45 Queen street and The Cornish Barn which are not far away. 200% nicer and they certainly don’t have a rude manager with really poor attitude which basically put you off to any appetite you have. By the way, this is my first and ever 1 star to any restaurant. I always give my 5.
JOANNA L — Google review
We booked a table to eat at the restaurant yesterday. I am a seafood lover and hoped by the reviews that I read about the restaurant to be impressed. Because I wanted a selection of seafood I ordered the Langoustines and shrimp dish. The Langoustines were serve with brocolli and a lemon and dill dressing but unfortunately it lacked seasoning. The shrimps with garlic, ginger and Asian salad was better but again not seasoned enough. The peppermint tea that I ordered leaked all over the table and the waitress almost burned herself because the handle of the teapot fell of. The service was good, waiting staff was friendly and polite. The atmosphere in the restaurant was really nice with some good music.
Andreea B — Google review
5/5 Overall 5/5 for service: welcoming and friendly. Let us order some drinks and check on the menu while we wait. 5/5 for food: great combinations for meat and vegetables, on the dishes. Great decorations to. Coffee was not bad. Highly recommend the cod. 4/5 for ambience and cleanness. But the organisation here can be improved. The bar and the back kitchen’s position might be the reason why staffs getting too busy. Good restaurant.

The Boatshed is a charming weatherboarded restaurant and bar located near the harbor in Penzance. Housed in an eighteenth-century building, it offers a cozy wooden interior and a lively atmosphere. The menu features locally caught seafood, succulent steaks, wood-fired pizza, and Mediterranean-style sharer plates. Guests rave about the sea bass and commend the attentive staff. Despite its small seating capacity, the restaurant accommodated a larger group comfortably.
We went to Penzance for our anniversary celebration and while returning back from our Cornwall tour we were looking for a place that offers good pasta for kids and a quick Google search showed up the boatshed suggestion. We were just going in for our daughter to have pasta but after going in we felt the difference instantly. The staff were polite and knew their stuff perfectly. We ordered cheese pasta with Salad and apple juice for our daughter and she loved it. The staff also offered some drawing papers and colors to keep our little one busy. For us we ordered a nice Mediterrane pizza which was really nice and served on a hot pan. We also ordered soup of the week which was tomato soup. It was okay. Overall we had a fun dinner with really good food at a good price. Kudos to staff as well. I would recommend if you visit Penzance then it's a must visit restaurant, it is close to the station.

The Boatshed is a clean and decent place to eat in Penzance. The grilled fish was very successful and tasty, which I really appreciated. However, the calamari we ordered as a starter was unfortunately very salty and fell below our expectations. I believe the service could be improved; the staff could have been more attentive and prompt. Overall, it's a spot where you can get a clean meal in the town, but there is room for improvement in some of the dishes and the service.

Food was good and the menu had plenty of fish and seafood dishes which conviced us to try the place. However, the quantity of the fish portion was small for the price and the service was slow. Staff was friendly but seemed overwhelmed hence the long waiting time to order or get food.

The Boatshed was recommended to us by friends who live locally, oh My goodness we were glad we took their advice. Late lunch there on a Thursday was fabulous. Certainly not the most picturesque spot but the food more than made up for that. Lovely friendly and efficient service; delicious food; pleasant relaxed atmosphere. We will certainly go back if we are visiting the area again.

A really delightful place to visit. I was there on a Sunday evening in June and thankfully I had the foresight to book a table. They were incredibly busy and rightly so because the service, the food, and the ambience were all worth a 5* rating. I had the Piri Piri chicken which was excellent and the Apple Betty dessert which was superb and I would highly recommend it.
Jill Y — Google review
This was our first stop in Penzance, and on first glimpse, it looks nice, but going to the toilet upstairs and seeing things a bit closer up shows it's in much need of a makeover and repairs. It's very dated and tiered and looks grubby. Broken tiles and toilet seats and old taps generally look like they're stuck in the 90s sorry to say. The staff were lovely and the menu was good except we ordered a ham and pineapple pizza and it came out on two bits Ciabatta and the chef didn't tell the staff and just assumed that was acceptable when it wasn't. We also ordered a sausage for our dog, and that was forgotten also and had to wait for that. He did eat it all when it arrived so that's ok you got his approval. The staff were very apologetic and took the pizza off the bill but if I hadn't have said anything, as the staff thought I had ordered it to come as it did, may have been charged pizza price, its not that cheap in there either but what we did have was actually good and plentiful. *It would have been better to tell the waiting staff that pizza wasn't available and give us the option of choosing something else, but hopefully, this will help the communication to be more open between staff and customers in the future. I know restaurants in Penzance are more seasonal, but I do think they need to spend money on the decor and interior as I doubt we'd go back again, which is a shame but there's better places to experience in Penzance and surrounding areas.

The pizza was fabulous—freshly made with quality ingredients, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection. You can really taste the care that goes into every bite. It’s not your average pizza—it’s something special. And the cider? Outstanding. Each variety we tried was crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced. Whether you prefer something dry or a touch sweeter, there’s something for every palate. It paired so well with the food, we couldn’t resist bringing a few bottles home! Friendly staff, great vibes, and an unforgettable combo of delicious cider and standout pizza. Can’t recommend it highly enough

We stopped here for lunch and the added bonus of a self-guided tour & wine tasting. Everyone was very friendly, from the very first greeting in the shop to the service at the restaurant. And they were also very accommodating of our dog who also had a great time throughout! The restaurant had a surprisingly great selection of food & specials. I was spoiled for choice and opted for the crab sandwich which was generous with the crab meat. It was nice to be able to sit outside in their covered seating area, but have the option of going indoors if the weather was not on our side. Overall, a very relaxing atmosphere and good food. The self-guided tour was short but sweet. Guided tours are available at time-slots throughout the day, but we opted for self-guided because it was incredibly convenient to be able to do it at our own pace - especially with the dog in tow. I liked the fact you could get a feel for the place before tasting some of their wines. The wine tasting consisted of a white, a rose, and a red - supplied with some useful tasting notes. (Really enjoyed the white. I don't think it was a grape variety I had tried before.) We left after having purchased a couple of bottles of wine and cider from the shop, including a bottle of the white wine tasted earlier! Happy to support a family business who are clearly on to a good thing.

It's so interesting to see what lies behind the gates of Polgoon. An apple orchard for producing cider and acres of vines, some under polytunnels, for producing the wine. I don't think there is a vineyard in such a lush setting anywhere else in the world. And the wine! Wine that reflects the unique terroir of this part of West Cornwall. All the produce for making the cider and wine is picked by hand and the end product is absolutely amazing. We'll be visiting again later in the year for lunch and looking forward to it already.

Great new menu and excellent wine and cider, as usual. Awesome spot in the sun with a small indoor restaurant option, as well as a heated covered area. Sorted for all weather and staff are incredibly friendly.

Enjoyed a bottomless brunch at Polgoon and service was incredible! Owen was so attentive and nothing was too much of an ask. The guided 3pm tour was busy and the company was lovely. Redeemed a gift voucher received in the shop and bought some souvenir glasses. Would recommend to anyone

We did the wine tour on a summers day in August. The grapes were looking lush! Good day out, lovely wine. Great to hear the English wine industry is thriving! Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

This vineyard is absolutely stunning. It’s impressive to see that Cornwall produces wines of such exceptional quality that can easily compete in the market. The vineyard is meticulously maintained, and the addition of an apple orchard enhances its charm. The shop and restaurant offer refreshing drinks, high-quality food, and excellent produce from the vineyard itself. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to visit this remarkable place and learn about the art of winemaking. The wine tasting was also absolutely amazing.
