Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Scone Palace is a grand Gothic stately home located at the historic site where Scottish kings were crowned. The palace boasts beautiful gardens and a maze for visitors to explore. This iconic Perthshire landmark holds great significance in Scottish history, having been a gathering place of the Picts and built on the grounds of an early Christian church. It was also once home to the legendary Stone of Scone.
Beautiful grounds to explore. Play park for kids, a maze which is very tricky and nearly drove me insane, also a lovely flower garden. Spent an enjoyable afternoon here, a trail for kids. It was lovely to see the peacocks and the stunning white peacock.
Suze W — Google review
I loved my visit to scone castle. The grounds were well kept and lovely, the maze was grand until I got worried I wouldn’t get out and almost broke through a hedgerow. The peacocks were out and about being lively, but I didn’t approach them (as per the warning at the gate). I’m giving this four stars because 1) at a place called Scone Palace, you ought to have a grande scone… mine was okay, though the preserves were delicious. 2) just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. The ivory… not in the greatest taste, but understandable. The elephant foot stool? Shut the front door. The mounted elephant skulls and poorly taxidermied bears also felt like someone should check out how much room to store things in the basement or perhaps donate them to somewhere educational. That’s my rant, but I do recommend going. Just don’t panic in the maze!

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to in my life. I spent some of the most unforgettable days at this palace I truly enjoyed every moment. The nature around it is absolutely breathtaking and feels unreal. The shops there were beyond amazing, and I bought some really lovely gifts. I completely fell in love with this palace it’s stunning, and every corner is full of wonder. The staff were wonderful and everything was clearly explained.
Noura — Google review
A stunning Palace steeped in history. The guides share an abundance of knowledge with the history of the Palace and Scotland. The only disappointment was not being able to take any photos inside the Palace. They say it's for security of the family who still live there but they are happy to have thousands of visitors explore their home, at a cost.
Martin J — Google review
INFORMATIVE! Great guides, cheery faces, noisy peacocks 😂. A beautiful building and grounds with such historic significance, everything ran smoothly, the guides answered every question with more details than you'd get from just asking Google. If you are using a mobility scooter, make sure you have good power/traction as the gravel square at the entrance is definitely a scooter killer. The cafe was good however the kids on the To-go cups didn't fit even remotely and in order for the lady behind the counter to secure it she had to run her hand/fingers over the entire lid... Not the best considering that's going to be attached my lips soon...
Tim S — Google review
an absolutely amazing palace that was on my must see places on our visit to Scotland ...unfortunately can't take pics inside the palace but its splendour is to be marvelled...definitely do yourself a favour and put on your list of things to visit ...Scone is a place that breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. Today, in the 21st century, it is the home of the Earls of Mansfield, and a major attraction to visitors from all over the world, most famous as The Crowning Place of Scottish Kings.
Warren B — Google review
It's the first time I've visited. I was born and brought up in Perth,so I'm ashamed I took so long. Beautiful Palace and gardens. The staff are very helpful and each room had codes and pages to explain everything. The gardens are excellent too, especially the tall trees and the peacocks. Don't get lost in the maze though.
William M — Google review
Spent 5 hours wandering the palace, the Kirk and the grounds. The audio guide (accessed by QT code on your phone) was very detailed and really explained the place well. The riverside and woodland walks were really relaxing and helped to make the most of the visit. Handy for a weekend visit to Perth... which had a lot to offer to.

History museum
Museums
The Black Watch Castle & Museum in Perth is a historic 16th-century castle that was once the residence of the Earls of Kinnoull. It now houses a museum dedicated to the renowned Black Watch regiment, showcasing its pivotal role in various historical events from the French Wars to modern conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Visitors can explore collections of historic uniforms and weapons within the fortress while also enjoying the beautiful gardens surrounding it.
I "had" to visit the Castle and Museum as a member of staff at Culloden had spotted earlier this year that I was wearing the colours of The Black Watch at that time. I didn't know so I was going to buy a new scarf. Also a friend asked me to do some research, there. Both members of staff on reception deserve a favourable mention. One asked if I wanted to leave my small bag of drinks in the "back office" while I went around the place. She, or maybe both, took the photos of me there. The other one took it on board to book a taxi from their list of local contacts, for my trip into town. It turned out to be the same firm and one of the drivers I had seen the previous day. I was picked up from the entrance to the Castle and Museum. It is customer service like that which helps improve the day even if help is not needed. I said that I wanted to do some research relating to the First World War, was then given a map and the appropriate room was indicated on that map. There is a lift, which could be most helpful on my back down. When the time came, I opted to walk down a spiral staircase rather than look for the lift. The staircase was much wider than the one I had seen the day before AND carpeted. Even the walk that I had chosen to get me to the Museum improved my sense of well being as it briefly took me alongside the river. I'll leave it to you to decide which of the two photos of me sitting down you prefer. If this suits your taste, it is a lovely place to visit. It worked well for me.

Very interesting museum. Great collection of weapons, uniforms and art around the legendary Black Watch regiment. Highly recommend it for military history fans.
Alvin H — Google review
I loved the castle and museum that tells the story of the Blacks watch of Scotland The Black Watch is a famous Scottish infantry unit with a history dating back to 1725, first formed as independent companies to police the Highlands after the Jacobite rebellion. It became the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, after the 2006 amalgamation of Scottish regiments into the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Known for its distinctive dark-colored tartan, the regiment has served in numerous conflicts, including the American Revolutionary War, World War I, and World War II.... if your into military or Scottish history this is for you

The museum does an incredible job of commemorating an important part of British history. I cant recommend a guided tour enough.. (wish I could remember the name Helen?) who was very friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. The Bistro also served great food and had very attentive staff. Overall a great experience.

Learned a lot about the Royal Regiment history and very visual in presentation. Allocated about 90 mins for the visit and be prepared to read a lot of placards. Takes focus to apperciate and learn at this Museum.

Excellent museum dedicated to the history of this famous highland regiment. Very well laid out leading through its formation, the many battles the Black Watch took part in to their role today. Great tea room too!

Awesome museum in a beautiful castle and an awesome staff also, completing with little stories and explanations, loved it. A very fantastic and moving travel through the history of the regiment, its emblems, its wars and its soldiers. Would definitely come again in a few years.

A hidden gem. A lovely visit of the main galleries. The Millais room was my favourite. And the unicorn. (I've not photographed that to keep it a surprise) Stopped for a tea which was really well priced... I asked if that was just the price for one drink, and the cheery staff member said, no... that's for two. Hurrah. :) I left a donation as it was free to enter.

Super local art gallery housing some great artworks and innovative exhibitions. The ladies loo is worth a visit just to see the colourful murals! Friendly, helpful staff. Loved the John Duncan Ferguson paintings, hadn't heard of him before.
Photos R — Google review
First time visiting and will certainly be back for more exhibitions. Free admission and also another exhibition which was ticketed. As someone with a disability it would be nice if there was some benches or seats dotted around in the galleries to allow for seating/resting while looking at things. Expensive but lovely items in gift shop. Will definitely return. Very lovely building.
Kate H — Google review
The staff were warm, enthusiastic, and clearly passionate—not just about the art, but about making visitors feel at home. The JD Fergusson exhibition is a vibrant, immersive journey through the life and work of one of Scotland’s most exciting Colourists. The bold use of colour, energy, and rhythm in his work feels just as alive today as it must have when first painted. The gallery does a fantastic job of telling his story—from his time in Paris and love for modernism to his deep connection with Margaret Morris. Highly recommend—whether you're already a Fergusson fan or just looking for a lovely way to spend an afternoon surrounded by colour, warmth, and creativity.

Become a regular stop as we head north...great garden to unwind from the journey round Edinburgh followed by a visit to a great café. Even now some interest in the garden. Fabulous reds of Acers. Huge range interesting rhododendrons much more noticeable than in the summer. Best cup of tea we've had for ages. China cups, proper teapot with boiling water poured onto the tea. Fab tea cosy to keep it hot. Amazing cakes. The raisin brack today was brilliant. Really friendly people.

Beautiful garden on hillside just outside of Perth. National Trust with cafe and shop selling gifts, cards, gardening equipment, plants. Excellent scones, soup, cakes in cafe. Beautiful colour at all times of year but especially good for rhododendrons, alpine plants, meconopsis. Peaceful spot close to city.

It's such a gem. We only popped in to use the loo and get a cuppa on our way north, but ended up staying for nearly an hour, looking at all the beautiful flowers. We even recommended it to parents who are also holidaying in Scotland, and they thought it was great too. Make sure you checkout where the carpark is before you go, as the access is quite limited!

Small but perfect. Branklyn Garden is so beautiful, with friendly staff at the gate and lovely volunteers in the cafe. There is an extensive collection of plants and flowers, water, and garden features. Something for everyone, and it smells wonderful too. We love it here, highly recommend.

Perth Concert Hall is a modern arena made of glass and copper, offering live music, comedy, and dance performances along with an onsite cafe-bar. It stands in contrast to the historic Edwardian theatre nearby, boasting state-of-the-art acoustics and adventurous programming. The venue hosts critically acclaimed performances by world-class artists and offers inspirational community activities. Additionally, it serves as a resource base for cultural life in Perthshire with events running throughout the year.
Very large venue with comfortable seats and a good size stage. Every seat had a good view of the stage and the sound was absolutely incredible no matter where you sat.

Skippinish concert was amazing. Lift is a long walk from the entrance and a further walk when you get upstairs to the auditorium. Seating is comfortable but too close to the seats in front. Staff were helpful and friendly and the visibility was great. Lovely venue but not particularly good for anyone with mobility issues.

Very nice venue and the staff are nice and very helpful! Truckers: can be a squeeze if you're in an artic, and you'll need to drop your trailer at the loading doors and park your until next to it 🚚🤘🏼

Are you looking for a cultural event to remember? If you love classical music like me, you will love Perth Theatre and Concert Hall. The programme is varied but the acoustics are always incredible. I went to see 'Also sprach Zarathustra' by Royal Scottish Orchestra conducted by Alexander Shelley and what a treat!🎼 I have listened to this piece many times but never in such quality. I loved violinist James Ehnes in the UK premiere of James Newton Howard's Violin Concerto No2 🎻. The piece is incredibly moving and James breathed life to every note of it. Please take note I took the photo of the orchestra prior to the concert during their tuning session, as no photography or recording are permitted during the performance. PS: There is no cloakroom unlike in other theatres and halls. You can preorder the drinks for the interval. There is plenty of parking around including electric charging points. For best availability it is advisable to book the tickets online in advance.

Great venues that bring so much to Perth in the way of entertainment, I’ve seen some fantastic performances Don Mclean, John Martyn, Goldfrapp, Mogwai, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Richard Thompson, Dougie Maclean, Ross Ainslie to name a few…

Went to see Ultimate Eagles. Seen them before and was not disappointed. In the introduction the lead singer stated they were not trying to be the eagles. They were just appreciating as close as possible to the authentic sound of The Eagles. And boy did they live up to that. Harmonies were spot on and the guitars and musicians were great. Thoroughly enjoyable two hours. Highly recommended.

Walked in for dinner for 4 on a Saturday evening and got a table and had a delicious meal. Service was outstanding and very nice welcome. Great food choice that was served quick, freshly cooked and piping hot. Highly recommended and would no hesitation coming back.

I visited Malting and had to try their sizzling chicken fajitas. The platter arrived steaming and filled the air with a mouthwatering aroma. The chicken was tender and flavorful, paired perfectly with grilled onions and peppers. The fresh, warm tortillas and side of guacamole made it even better. Great service and lively atmosphere — definitely a fajita dish I’d come back for! Food is delicious 🤤…. ♥️

Regular place to go for meals. Though the two course lunch menu is only for starter and a main. I wanted a starter and dessert. But it wasn't allowed. So it ended up a three course meal from the lunch menu, as friend ordered a main dish. They put order through as one three course from lunch menu. I'd the starter 'bang bang cauliflower and sticky toffee pudding with custard for dessert. At least bill was done as one person, so cost wasn't as high as she only ate main dish, the buttermilk chicken burger. Which she really enjoyed. I thought the cauliflower was too well done. Burnt bits, too crunchy for me. Rather they'd big pieces of cauliflower dipped in batter than chopped up version they served. As I'd too many bits that were mostly batter and tiny pieces of cauliflower and too crunchy for my taste. Otherwise it would of been good. I did tell person who took plates, she said she'd tell kitchen. For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding, me with custard and ice cream with the other sticky toffee served to table. I enjoyed it, though I could taste the treacle flavour quite strongly. Custard helped mask strong flavour. Other sticky toffee pudding tasted much more treacly with ice cream. The one who ordered it, didn't like the stronger flavour with the toffee sauce. But it was okay with pal who ate what was left of the dessert. They did agree had strong treacle flavours with sauce. But managed to eat it. Think we all agreed it needed to be sweeter flavour or not as much treacle added? Otherwise would of been really good dessert. Had nice sized piece of toffee sponge with plenty of toffee sauce. They both had main dishes, hot honey chicken burger and buttermilk chicken burger. Both really enjoyed their burgers. None left on plate. So it was a bit hit and miss for me with starter and all of us in agreement about toffee sauce. Just that bit too strong with treacle flavour, we missed sweetness from toffee sauce. Otherwise it would of been really good. As sponge was lovely, soft inside and nice texture. Just the sauce a let down. They had good access to restaurant and car park had plenty disabled parking spaces as well as usual parking spaces. Nice display at entrance with flowers. Good to see as weather changes and less colour in gardens etc...

Stopped here on our way from Dunfermline to St Andrews, and were excited by the menu diversity we saw online, including many traditional English/Scottish dishes. Initial service was wonderful, but I believe our server went off shift partway through our visit, and we were basically forgotten about. Extra long wait for the food, no water refills, no help with the bill, and the delays cost us as we spent more than an hour there. (St. Andrews castle and Cathedral had just closed as we pulled up). The food was reasonable, but for the price, it felt a bit lacking. The "cheap" fish and chips was actually quite good, where the more expensive one (we got one of each in our party) was not. The veggie pie was passable, and the soup a bit bland, but the sandwich was quite good!

Do you know what.....we booked this last minute as somewhere to eat on our way up the road to Pitlochry. We weren't sure what the quality would be considering it's a chain, but we had a really delicious meal, brought really quickly with very attentive service. I could not fault it! Reasonably priced as well. We'll definitely come back when we're passing through Perth. Fantastic.

We came in for a few drinks on a Saturday night, ended up having some food as well, we just sat in the bar area which was pretty busy and were served by Kelsay! She was really lovely and chatty and a bonus she remembered our drink order ha! made our experience great, will definitely be back.

We popped in for lunch. Were warmly greeted and very accommodating on where we wanted to sit. Our server, Tom, was very patient with all my endless questions on what was spicy or not and didn’t mind me changing my mind at the last minute!! Service was prompt and friendly. The garlic mushroom starter was delicious as was my main of chicken skewer. Hubby had the mixed grill and enjoyed the majority of it but did find the chicken a bit dry and the steak a bit tough (good news for the neighbour’s dog tho!). We have visited before and will definitely go again. Overall the usual good, friendly service.

Nestled in the heart of Perth, The Bothy is a charming bistro that beautifully blends modern and traditional Scottish cuisine. With an inviting dining room illuminated by soft lighting, it offers a delightful set menu featuring seasonal favorites. During special occasions like Christmas, guests can indulge in a festive feast with options ranging from butternut squash soup to roast Highland venison. The atmosphere at The Bothy is warm and welcoming, making it perfect for family gatherings or romantic dinners alike.
Enjoyed a great family Sunday lunch at The Bothy recently. There was live music when we arrived which added to the relaxed atmosphere. Really enjoyed the Scallop & Asparagus risotto and the Chorizo and potato broth with Cod and asparagus was great, followed by a very indulgent chocolate tart with tangy orange sorbet. Very reasonable prices and the serving staff were all great, recommending the dishes and the wines.

Grou[ of 6 of us stopped in on a very slow Sunday night. Our junior server was clearly new. Very friendly, but not very knowledgeable. Not her fault, and she did the best she could. Our main server also was the bartender. He definitely should have known better. Extremely slow, not knowledgeable about the food or the drinks, and messed up our order a couple of times. While the food was OK, the overall expereicne was not. Cannot recommend this place, at least when the primary staff is clearly not on duty. It’s a shame too, as this has the potential to be a great restaurant.
Chester B — Google review
My daughter and I went to the Bothy for lunch on Saturday. They had a deal on so we decided on 2 courses for £20. We both chose the soup which was spicy vegetable and the macaroni cheese with smoked haddock and leek. The soup was served with bread and butter and was very good. The main, not so good. It was served in a very large shallow bowl which hadn't been heated, so cooled down very quickly, almost cold by the time I had finished it. It was OK, the sauce was thin and quite tasteless to be honest. My daughter couldn't finish it, saying that it was sickly. It was served with French fries which looked and tasted like macdonalds fries! We asked for the bill and was very surprised to see a 10% service charge. I mentioned this and was told that they could remove it which I agreed to. We eat out quite a lot and this is the first time that I have come across this. I don't agree with it, it should be the customers decision how much to tip or whether or not to tip. The service was good, although a little slow, nice staff. The Bothy was my favourite restaurant before the outbreak of covid, but unfortunately, this experience has put me off and I won't return.

Indian restaurant
Located on South Street in Perth, Scotland, Tabla Indian Restaurant offers a taste of authentic Indian cuisine. Since its opening in 2009, the restaurant has garnered numerous accolades and awards for its fresh and traditional dishes. The stone-walled dining room with traditional decor and an open kitchen provides a charming ambiance for enjoying classic Indian and tapas dishes. Run by Swarna and Praveen Kumar, the restaurant aims to recreate the flavors of their rural Indian upbringing using locally sourced ingredients.
First time to Perth, but I must say, this by far the best 👌 authentic Indian Restaurant. I don't like to compare Tabla to other restaurants in Perth. However, if you want to have a glimpse of the Indian food with its authentic flavours, then this is the place.

We sought out Tabla, while through in Perth, having seen the owner at a festival. We arrived early and the place was quite quiet so we got a table easily. The staff welcomed us and were attentive, pleasant and efficient. They were immaculately clean and smart. We ordered our food which came out quite quickly. All of the food was absolutely delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed it all. The establishment was well run, was immaculately clean and the food was amazing. Would definitely return. Thanks also for the complimentary potato and possibly spinach wee pakora type things too !

I met the owner, Praveen, here for a meal but I don't think it would have mattered if I wasn't with the owner. As a restaurant experience, this was perfect.

Stunning restaurant with a wonderful old time atmosphere. From the music to the decor, it feels like stepping back in time in a beautiful way. Wide menu and really nice drinks. It’s very spacious, making tables feel private as not crammed together. It’s a must do if you’re in Perth. Cannot recommend enough.

We visited for dinner as a family and had a fantastic family dinner. Easy to get too in the city, the only thing that was a drawback for me was having mobility issues and the stairs leading into the building. We did not want to sit outside on the terracing, so it took me time to manage the stairs. But having gotten into the restaurant, we had a wonderful dinner. We did not order starters, just our main dishes, desserts and drinks. The service was great, food was excellent as was the cocktails and we had a fantastic evening. Would return again, a little negative for the access for mobility reasons for myself but overall we all had an lovely time.

Great food, very good service. An interesting eclectic mix of decorations - old family portraits, old plane collections, old stamps to name a few of the objects across the restaurant. A bit pricey but an excellent and varied menu with good vegan options.

A prawn cocktail and bread and oils for starters. Prawn and chicken fajitas and a spicy chicken burger. 2 cokes all for under 60 quid. Delicious and great staff will definitely be back. We have been coming here since opening in 1990. We would recommend Pacos to all well worth a visit if your in Perth.

Amazing place to eat. Good selection of food and drink. Service was very good and staff were polite. The decor is absolutely amazing, I could spend hours just looking at all the stuff around the walls.

Tea house
Effies of Perth is a charming traditional tea room and restaurant located on the High Street. It has been a family-run business for over 20 years, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere with vintage Victorian decor. The menu specializes in an array of teas, café beverages, pastries, cakes, and savory fare made using locally-sourced ingredients. Effies is known for its superb baking, rich homemade soups, and creative breakfast options. Customers praise the delightful ambiance and friendly staff.
Take a step back in time in this beautiful restaurant, full of old pictures of Perth. Friendly, welcoming staff (must mention Jackie). Freshly cooked omelette is the best I've ever had. Huge silver teapot and bone China teacup makes it feel special. Varied menu sure to please everyone. Thoroughly recommend.

What a cafe! It was like stepping back in time! Bone china tea cups and an old school tea pot. The tea was amazing the staff equally as attentive and pleasant. Cash is preferred although they take card. We also tried the blueberry scone with jam and butter which was light and tasty. Prices are on par with elsewhere but the quality and service makes this a must stop shop👍 They stop serving breakfast around 1130am so bear that in mind as they bring out a different menu.

This was probably our favorite restaurant experience the whole time we were in Scotland. The owner is incredibly kind and welcoming. The food was all delicious. The atmosphere is so cute. And the prices were very reasonable. I would come back here for afternoon tea in a heartbeat. Make sure to reserve a time in advance to get a table.

Popped in here on a whim while headed somewhere else was delighted by the maximalist decor with art and memorabilia everywhere I didn't have to wait for than 3 minutes for a table and tried the afternoon tea You get to pick your sandwich and tea and from a selection of scones and desserts. I chose the prawn sandwich, blueberry scone, and lemon drizzle cake with early gray tea (and black currant cordial because I wanted to try it) The prawn sandwiches are a must! The scones were ok; I have limited experience with scones but from what I've had in the past, these seemed a bit a dry but worked well with the clotted cream and jam The lemon drizzle cake was good although the icing might send you into a sugar crash later The staff are attentive and friendly but always on the move All in all, a great place to grab some tea and goodies

Effies was the HIGHLIGHT of our visit to Scotland. When you come in the doors, George immediately makes you feel like family. Everything inside is carefully curated and full of delicate details like various china cups and teapots. The food was SO good and we enjoyed all of the flavors of tea they offered. But the absolute BEST part was the carrot cake. When I tell you this carrot cake could solve world peace. It’s moist- sweet- somehow light and heavy and truly everything you want a piece of cake to be. We LOVED it and still talk about it to this day. Our server Carlie was a gem and was so welcoming and caring.George also gave us GREAT travel tips and shared stories with us. The town of Perth is so quaint and lovely. We enjoyed visiting the thrift shops and walking the streets. We went all 3 days in a row of our 3 day Perth trip! Do yourself a favor and add Effie’s to your Scotland visit- we think of it often and treasure our time there.

A visit to Effies of Perth for breakfast. What a treat it was! A beatiful eatery in the heart of Perth, with a feel of yester-year. Staff are so friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. A vast array of food and drinks available to suit all taste buds. We both had a full Scottish breakfast and we were not disappointed. I like my food but struggled to finish everything on my plate. You will not go away hungry, that is for sure. A gem of an eatery in Perth!

Best Victorian afternoon tea and Carrot cake I’m so glad I found Effies, the vintage decor, friendly service, huge portion, delicious food and very reasonable price ! I ordered the soup with full sandwich and chips. There’s a lot of sandwich filling options you can choose from, from tuna mayo to roast ham. I opted for beef and horseradish. I also tried the salmon and cream cheese one. They are great I personally prefer the beef. I also had Cullen skink here, it’s so delicious and such a huge portion, it’s super creamy, the best one I tried. 10/10 The mushroom soup is also great. They had many soup options that day as well. They have a big selection of tea here, served in vintage silver ware. Darjeeling and Assam tea are amazing here! Finally, star is the show, my absolute favourite, the carrot cake! You must try it, it’s so soft and moist, the cream cheese frosting is delicious, light. This is the best carrot cake I’ve ever tried! It’s their recipe for 25yrs! 10/10 The decor is amazing here, everything is so vintage and nostalgic. Super friendly service, love that it’s a family business. Everything is served quickly too. Effies is such a gem, totally worth the travel, make sure you book ahead, because it gets very busy!
