As Burgas is a historical hot spring located in the city of Ourense, known for its mineral waters that emerge at a temperature of 67C. It is a popular spot featuring an outdoor bath and fountains, offering visitors a chance to experience the therapeutic properties of the thermal pool. The area around As Burgas exudes a medieval atmosphere, allowing visitors to step back in time and explore the old city center.
Lovely and historic spot in Casco Viejo. Well kept garden fronting the modern hot spring pool (currently closed to soaking with a park above that has an archeological feature showing portions of Roman baths. There are two fountains accessible to gather hot (as many locals do) water. They run 24-7 -- be careful as water is very hot. Very peaceful at night.
Howard M — Google review
Its a natural fountain that brings hot water from the soil, water is really hot and better not to touch it directly. People uses this water for body cleaning or drinking water believing its a nature power or similar. As you can see in the video, it was raining but one woman was filling up water tanks to bring the water to home. Nice to visit
Ricard C — Google review
Very nice square with the hot spring sources just in the middle. Very hot water coming from deep down the earth. Very healthy water, some people like me take it home to drink. Highly recommended
EdgarTxr — Google review
Nice highlight of the city! It is under refurbishment, so wasn't fully open, still worth it.
Ariana B — Google review
Nice site and quite easy to get to after walking through a nice old city. Unfortunately, it was a very hot day and the hot springs were turned off due to the weather I would assume. So the whole area was "bone in the desert" dry. I would like to return one day when the springs are working and active. The surrounding area was well kept and some nice arrangement of flowers in the mini garden. We did touch a small water spring nearby, and the water was very hot.
Terry P — Google review
The waters are really good for my psoríase. It's a shame the pool is still closed over the Covid. I never had the chance to bath in the hot pool. Looking forward for the chance to try. The space is clean. You have multiple springs with different temperatures. Parking is few but if you look you will find. The water is great for my skin. Give it a try.
Paulo B — Google review
It's a historic must and adjacent to the market (which is housed in a new building above it on the main Street). The bathing area is closed on Monday. It's hot. And it's a single big pool. It is very different from the natural river setting of the others. Still, it is very much worth a dip.

Our airbnb was in the middle of As Burgas so we had a great view from our windows. Lovely area. Gardens were stunning! Perfect areas to walk around in. We would go back again.

The Claustro de San Francisco, also known as the Cloister of San Francisco, is a 14th-century architectural gem located in Ourense. This stunning cloister, originally part of a Franciscan convent, features 63 intricately carved arches adorned with depictions of mythological creatures, plants, animals, and human motifs.
A must-see. The free guided tour is worth it.

Great place for a short history lesson, quite interesting and beautiful. Good place to reflect
Howard M — Google review
"The gothic cloister of San Francisco is one of the best preserved franciscan cloisters of the transition between Romanesque and gothic styles in Galicia. They're remarkable in their sculpture and architecture. The cloister dates back to 1325-1350 is the most ancient piece of the original convent. It's gothic in style on an irregular floor plan with three series of arcades with double columns on a stone base. The rectangular floor plan of the cloister is defined by paired columns supporting 63 arches with decoration on the spring, capitals and corbels. And 76 paired columns except the last 4 have quadrangular pillars. The work of the capitals is beautiful with Romanesque reminiscences and remarkable nailheads on the large bead moulding's arches. The internal face of the arches presents sculptures of the Apostles Saint James and Peter. In the sculptural decoration of the capitals there are mixed with vegetal motifs, zoomorphic elements, real and imaginary animals anthropomorphic forms and scenes from the old testament, hunting and war. The idea constantly repeated in the cloister is the Christians struggle against the sins portrayed through the scenes of hunting snd fishing. The work of the decorative diamond tops is very refined. On the opposite side of the square is an arcade with 5 arches leading to the chapterhouse reconstructed in the 16th century. The entry is flanked by the figures of the Virgin of the Assumption and Saint Michael. In 1835 the cloister was turned into barracks until the army left in 1987". Although few visit the cloisters it's worth it and is free. The guides are also really helpful and speak English too. Next to it you can also visit a collection of historical exhibits housed in a beautiful exhibition space. Bit of a climb up from centre but not too difficult.

Ourense Thermal Springs is a major attraction in the city, boasting one of the highest concentrations of geothermal water in Europe. Visitors can enjoy outdoor baths in various pozas around the area. The ancient Romans recognized the healing properties of these hot springs, particularly for ailments like arthritis. For a nominal fee, visitors have access to changing rooms, lockers, and showers. While some facilities may be out of order and water cleanliness varies, it remains a relaxing place to visit with family and friends.
Excellent! Clean, well kept and monitored by 2 staff daily. And it's free to the public! Well worth a visit.

Nova Restaurante, located at Valle Inclan, 5, is a one Michelin star establishment that celebrates the flavors of locally-sourced seasonal produce. The restaurant is led by chefs Julio Sotomayor and Daniel Guzman, who offer a tasting menu featuring eight to 13 courses that blend tradition with creativity. The wine list complements the culinary experience with a selection of local wines from small producers.
Amazing, one if my new favorite michelin restaurants. Not pretentious but nice, seasonal, and creative dishes that flow smoothly... don't sleep on Galician wines either!

Is Galicia the world capital for exemplary food ? Well if this place is anything to go by, then yes. This was possibly the best menu I have ever experienced. The food was so well executed and the attention to detail was nothing less than sublime.
Gerald M — Google review
I ate here my first night in Ourense and what a great experience. I can understand why it has a Michelin star. I did the 13 course tasting menu and added the caviar. The flavors were well balanced and had a lot of different textural elements. Top notch service

We have being in many Michelin star restaurant and I can say that this one has nothing to envy to 3* ones. Impeccable service, we came with a pregnant woman and the way they looked after her was awesome. 100% safe coming here with your pregnancy. Very nice decoration and every single waiter was kind and efficient. A must to try in Ourense.

The idea to have a 1-Star Michelin affordable is incredible. Starting from the service and the maitre:incredible! Very careful about anything. Food is great and even if we went for the cheapest menu, we left rolling. Compared to "degustation menu" that restaurant usually offer, i definitely rate this one amongst the best. Well done
Andrea R — Google review
One Michelin star comes with high expectations — and Nova delivers on many fronts. ⭐ I recently visited Nova in the heart of Ourense, and while the overall flavor of each dish was excellent, I’m being a bit stricter in this review, as I believe Michelin-level restaurants should be held to a higher standard. • The soup of cucumber and tonic soup was refreshing, with a distinct cucumber taste and just a hint of tonic (without the fizz). It felt more like a palate cleanser or a drink between courses rather than a true starter — perhaps better placed between the fish and meat dishes. • The parsnip purée with quail egg and duck slices was well-balanced and flavorful. However, the presentation could have used a more creative touch. (Special mention: the gluten-free bread made with buckwheat and rice flour was fantastic.) • The salad — with fish, quinoa, tomato, onion, soy, turnip … it was the highlight: beautiful, fresh, and each ingredient distinct. One of the best dishes of the meal. • Carrot purée with cock and (another) egg was underwhelming. I expected a bit more creativity in this combination. • The lacón with vegetables had perfect seasoning — perhaps a bit too overpowered the vegetables accompanying it. • The rice dish, as a big fan of rice, was a bit of a mixed experience: spot-on in texture, with nice touches of pork and a scallop (which is not mentioned in the dish presentation…) that balanced the plate. However, the flavor enhancer was too noticeable, and I struggled with the thin yet chewy pork fat. Big plus for the fresh peas, though! • The hake with green beans was my second favorite dish. Perfectly cooked, flaky, and flavorful — the vegetables added a nice earthy contrast. As my kids said - yours doesn’t taste like this… 😒 • The beef with eggplant had excellent flavor and balance. However, once “blended” or minced, the meat lost its texture, which was a pity. Still, as a Galician, I appreciate a good cut, and this was definitely a miss in this dish. 🍨 Desserts & Pairings I’m admittedly biased when it comes to dessert — I love them all. That said, in nearly 40ºC heat, the ice cream was the clear winner thanks to its refreshing touch when it’s almost 40 degrees outside… The brownie, however, could use improvement: I prefer the moist version rather than dry. The wine pairings were a highlight. I discovered a 2011 sweet Godello — what a treat! And the Albariño sparkling wine served with the starters was unlike any other Galician espumoso I’ve tried. Very unique. 🔚 Final Thoughts Nova is a solid representation of modern Galician cuisine and wine pairing, and absolutely worth trying. Would I return? Possibly — though next time, I might prefer to explore other flavor combinations and concepts elsewhere.
Lucía C — Google review
Went again this year, and again it surpassed the expectations. This time we took the middle menu: Nova, since last year we took the more complete one and barely could finish it. Excellent combination of local food with sophisticated culinary techniques. This time i took pictures. Will come back again soon.

Taberna Pulpería Atarazana offers a high-quality dining experience with excellent service and an extensive selection of wines. It is a place where one can savor the flavors of Ourense. The menu is diverse, catering to all tastes with options such as skewered mushrooms and peppers, scallops, boiled meat, and jazz-inspired dishes.
Great experience at Taberna Pulpería Atarazana. The location is fantastic with a parking garage near by and in the city center. We ordered pulpo, merluza, croquetas, and pork. All were excellent. Service was fast. Since we arrived upon opening, they were able to accommodate us without a reservation. I recommend making a reservation though due to the popularity. Highly recommend.
Jesse W — Google review
Good quality and food at this place but price is not fair. They extra charge you from 50 cents to 1€ per dish to have it on the terrace and they 'force' you to take the table there. Also they charge you plus 1€ per person for bread, take it or not, they serve it without asking. It is a very bad practice and it makes the experience bitter. You feel you get trick and it is not nice.

The worst dish I had in all of Galicia , we regretted our choice , food was below average , it didn't taste absolutely anything
Valli — Google review
Very busy restaurant in downtown Ourense so make sure to have a reservation. Also, it sits on a pedestrian street so plan ahead since parking is extremely limited in this area. Their prix fixe menu is a really good value for the money, with several options to choose from. Food ranged from great to okay. We were hyped for the high reviews on their homemade desserts but they were just average in our opinion. Servers seemed to be overworked but it was an overall good experience.
J C — Google review
If you are in Ourense, you have to visit this place, the food is literally amazing. The attention, portions and service was really good. You can ask for the wine list to make your visit a beautiful experience. There are different types of menus, we chose the special that also includes delicious desserts, please try the “arroz con leche”. Not expensive, good quality. Definitely, I totally recommend this restaurant and for sure I’ll be back!!!

This place is really good! The octopus was probably the best I’ve had in Spain. The tosta de pulpo was super tasty. The croquetas were the usual Spanish croquetas. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE “FLAN DE CASTAÑAS” it was also the best flan I’ve had in my life. The waiter was also very nice!

A Casa Do Pulpo is an unpretentious eatery that specializes in delectable grilled octopus dishes, alongside meatballs and desserts. Their octopus is cooked to perfection and expertly seasoned, making it a must-try for anyone visiting Ourense. The restaurant also offers other enticing options like pimento de padron and tortillas, all of which are delicious. WOAAAW, this is definitely one of the best octopus I've ever eaten 🤤🤤 it was just perfectly cooked and seasoned and it's definitely worth trying if you happen to be in Ourense! I also took some pimento de padron and those were EXCELLENT, I will most probably be back here tomorrow or the day after! Maybe even the two days actually. Friendly staff and super fast service, I literally sat down, ordered and two minutes later I was served, what else could you need..

Traditional food in a very informal but authentic place. Octopus is its speciality but other Galician and Spanish plates are also available. Variety of Galician wines and kind service.

Best pulpo (octopus) ever! We ask for the one on the grill on a bed of potatoes with ajada (olive oil + garlic). Also we tried the "zamburiñas", delicious! We had those two starters and a side salad and it was more than enough for a lunch for two. The attention was superb as well.
Gilberto M — Google review
Average tavern trying to be special. The octopus is not up to Galician standards but it’s amazing if you live in Ireland and come here to try it out. There’s only one fish option and all the meat is what you would expect to eat at your grandma’s, homey comfort food. Follow my advice and if you come here order the simplest plates: Raxo (pork stew), tortilla, and empanada, maybe a 1/2 pulpo or the deer meatballs.

I went with my mother and we had a great experience. We were wonderfully welcomed and looked after by the owner who spoke great English. She recommended some great dishes and stopped us over ordering ! The food was delicious and we couldn't find fault with anything. Great place. Returned 3 years later and now have to report that I didn't have as good experience as before. Fish and Meat were great but the vegetables were terrible. All that was on offer was fried potatoes and a mix of vegetable finely chopped mush. Meant that we ate our fish or meat but left the rest. I have downgraded a star. The staff are still great and helpful.

Fantastic experience. Really quiet dinning room and staff has an attention to detail. We were made to feel at home. We asked a few questions regarding their extensive wine list and were helped narrowing down to a bottle of mencia. We were told if we did not like the wine it wasn't a problem and they would gladly let us open something else.. fortunately the staff helped us find an awesome bottle.
