The Museum of the City of Villach is housed in a historic townhouse and offers guided tours and exhibits that explore the region's rich history and culture. The staff are known to be helpful, and visitors can expect to see a range of special exhibits alongside local historical displays. One recent exhibit focused on the history of beer, which was presented in an accessible way with full English translations available.
Beautiful hidden gem in the city! Kids-friendly, exhibition with interactive objects. You can borrow ipad and get information about paintings, ect. 90% is translated to English Cozy garden to have a rest afterwards Recommended!

Really liked the the temprary expedition "How wars end". The permanent exhibition was nice but !no English translation! It is as if they don't want foreigners to visit. Additionaly, no Slovenian translation which shows they have no respect for the Slovenian minority at the bilingual zone.
Uros L — Google review
Manages to fit a lot in. Great building and location. The staff are very helpful. Have visited a few times now and each time there has been a different special exhibit alongside the local history. This time was history of beer and it's local relevance. A great amount of information presented in an easy to understand way and even had a full English translation available. Look forward to seeing what's in next spring.

Lake Ossiach, also known as Ossiacher See, is a stunning natural attraction nestled in the Nock Mountains range. Covering an area of 10.38 square kilometers, it is renowned for its exceptional beauty and tranquil surroundings. This picturesque lake, located just northeast of Villach, offers a serene escape with its 11-kilometer length and one-kilometer width.
Great place. New bathrooms and toilets very clean. The lake is breathtaking. The receptions ladies are exceptional. Remarks from us: On the standard place, the electricity box was located so far from our place that our 25 meter cable was not long enough. But we could lend the additional cable with 50 euro deposit from the reception. The dirty water disposal place is also located so far from where we stood (only available in one front building)
Kualitik D — Google review
Very beautiful and clean.Nice people.Holidays with mountains and lakes. There are many things to do here.I also recommend camping.
Apolonia — Google review
Almost all around the lake are private ugly fences. Really sad to see such a pearl destroyed like that.
Oskar M — Google review
great place to stay with kids. not only has the lake an amazing view, the mountains surrounding it provide a great opportunity to go for a hike. additionally, there is a volleyball field and a soccer field, as well as a place to play mini-golf.
Selma S — Google review
Sheer beauty. Nice, quiet at times. End of season hardly a person in sight. Relaxing place.
Zoe K — Google review
It was an awesome afternoon cruising the lake. Albeit there was a light rain, the restaurant/bar offered a warm refuge. The best view is from the top deck.

Landskron Castle, a historic hilltop fortress in Villach, Austria, has been home to various noble families from the 14th to the 17th century. Although destroyed by fire in 1812, it remains a top attraction with its medieval walls drawing many visitors for its scenic ascent and breathtaking views.
Great location close to Villach with lots of attractions. You may book a session with eagles on your wedding day. This is a real castle, a fantastic background for photos. Stunning views on each side. Every couple gets to cut their cake with a medieval sword. There is a beautiful Chapel located within the castle, great for a romantic ceremony. As a photographer I can recommend this location as one of favourites.
Marta P — Google review
You can't understand the lady who is speaking in English, actually translating the other one. But she's adorable :) the show itself is well handled and you can see they treat those animals with kindness. The negative thing is coffee (really bad) in the restaurant near the entrance, expensive souvenirs (7€ for a magnet) and the parking is way down the road so you have to walk UP HILL for 10min to reach the castle. Overall, great to see in person those magnificent birds of pray. We were amazed.
Kristina S — Google review
Breathtaking atmosphere and view.. problem with my visit was that we were a big group with optimized price and therefore the restaurant experience seems to suffer .. the plates were quite plain with good but not exceptional taste and the people were quite harsh - some of the statements even unfriendly.. I guess if it would have been a dinner for two with less monetary restrictions the whole experience would have been mega..
Evi N — Google review
Found this gem while driving from Austria to Italy. We almost got lost after getting off the highway, but once we got our bearings, it was a breeze. Once there, if available, you can park right up to the castle. Otherwise, just walk up the steep hill (15 minutes). The grounds are good enough, but the birds of pray displays and demonstration were a definitely 10/10!. Food around the place was ok, but the people working everywhere were so nice. A must-stop to see!!!
Luis C — Google review
Eagle show it was brilliant....german and english must do. Ideal for families. Food very good.
Maxwell W — Google review
Nice one day family trip. The bird show is something special, but it is good to know german, because there is not enough english speak. Beware of summer heat, you can get fried up in the arena. It is ynder open sky. No roof or shadow at all. If you are regarding that it's a interesting place with astonishing view.
Aljosa T — Google review
Parking is 2,5 Euros per day and you can see beautiful old castle and lovely Affenberge. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Andrea P — Google review
The food was delicious at the restaurant and the views were incredible.More than worth it to venture out and go see. The drive just to get to the castle is worth just taking the trip. There ia parking at the very top of the mountain so your only option isn't just at the very bottom. Its worth checking out. If you do decide to park at the bottom. Its quite the journey making it up that steep graded road about 1/2 Km to the top.

Bodies of Water
Lake Faak, often referred to as the Caribbean of Carinthia, is a stunning gem nestled within the breathtaking landscape of the southern limestone Alps. Surrounded by majestic mountain peaks and lush green forests, this picturesque lake offers an enchanting atmosphere that captivates visitors, especially during sunrise and sunset when its unique turquoise hue comes alive. The vibrant color of Lake Faaker See is attributed to sunlight reflecting off tiny lime particles from glacial sources, creating a magical experience for all who visit.
One of the cleanest and most beautiful lakes in Austria! It's not too big but immensely pretty, both with its views and its cleanliness!
Laura F — Google review
Lake Faak as the European Bike Week stage, every year, is simply THE bikers dream of the year. Can't imagine a better place for such a big event. And you can bring family, kids, too. They can chill and play and swim in the lake, while the motorcyclist of the proud family goes around the bikers villages.... Some comments, and why this is not a 5 star review: - in the summer and also during the Bike Week, it gets really hot and there is just too little shade everywhere (also at the lake beaches, too little is taken care for shade) - to the contrary, when it rains, which can happen often in these parts during September, it gets pretty cold and nasty. During bad weather it's muddy, windy, cold etc, again, no real roof protection if you get caught without an umbrella. Then better wait and come on the crowdy weekend if the weather settles then. - if you are looking for an overnight stay in Faak during the Bike Week, don't bother finding hotels or apartments close to the event because the best ones are reserved for years in advance; or you simply won't find anything "normal"; or it will be so ridiculously pricey that it's better sleep in a car or something :):):) - the best of the Bike Week actually happens during the week days, so if you manage, come visit before the crazy crowded weekend. During the week, there is still really a lot of bikers and bikes, but all is more peaceful, you can get better choice and deals in the merchandise and parts booths (on weekends the best things are sold out) and you have a much easier life if you want to check out the new Harleys, or try them out on a test ride. - oh and this is a really small village here, so don't expect infrastructure of bigger towns like big markets, Spar and stuff... There is a small post office, a small pharmacy, and a fuel station... :) The pizzerias are not even open during Bike Week (maybe one....). Everything else are hotels, weekend houses, apartments and the lake. Oh and Harley people, when will miss Karen Davidson come? Since Willy G is not with us anymore, can we see at least miss Davidson more? That would be a real privilege.
UrosM — Google review
The most stupid lake I have ever visited. The lake is beautiful, but impossible to reach without paying for everything. It is surrounded by the smell of tourist economics. You cannot just simply go on foot to the lake and take a look around and make pictures. You have to pay pay pay. I will never ever visit this lake once again.
Gertjan 6 — Google review
Beautiful lake but like in any place in Austria it is not easy to get to the shore or beach as they are all privately owned so you need to go in one of the camping and pay for access

A large selection of water sports is also available. Very nice for peace and enjoyment, it's worth stopping by, I definitely recommend it warmly...

Dobratsch, a 7,106-ft. peak in Carinthia, offers stunning village views and can be reached by hiking or road. The circular hiking trail is a unique experience that showcases the area's historical and cultural diversity at the intersection of Slavic, Romanesque, and Germanic cultures. In summer, visitors can enjoy hiking, cycling, or driving to the last parking area before continuing on foot to the summit.
The path is easy to access and I managed to complete the journey without much fatigue as I don’t walk too much usually. The views are splendid and a nice walk to recommend!
Teresa F — Google review
We were there in March, it was snow and about 1 degree Celsius, but it was absolutely amazing! I went there with my 50kg dog and ut was beautiful experience
Dominik Š — Google review
Dobratsch mountain is one of the most beautiful spots you will ever experience! There are multiple routes to hike in the Summer and Winter. There are also various restaurants where you can enjoy Austrian food and drink as well as the spectacular views that Dobratsch has. You can also drive all the way to the top parking spot and hike to the top of the mountain. Depending on your abilities the hike will take about an hour to an hour and a half. If you ever get the chance you should go for a full moon hike on Dobratsch. It is a memory you will cherish for life! The restaurant at the top also sells a very tasty tee & rum - treat yourself after a hike in the Winter!

Villacher Brauhof is a relaxed restaurant located in Villach's Inner City, offering a convivial atmosphere and a terrace for outdoor dining. The restaurant features regional cuisine and is wheelchair accessible. Guests can enjoy traditional meals paired with global beers, including the locally produced Villacher beer. The establishment offers a mix of traditional and modern vibes, making it an ideal spot for lunch or dinner.
Good location, Good food Very fast service. My German isn't very good and the staff were very helpful Good beer selection too. It gets very busy in the evening
Greg B — Google review
Nice waitress. Quick service. White sausages in clear soup. Bit weird with mustard and pretzel. Kaiser dessert ok. Had nicer before. Would not reorder either. The pig knuckle was amazing. Villacher beer was nice from draft. We paid almost 50eur altogether.
Timi — Google review
Looking for that authentic Austrian bier keller experience this is it. No pretensions or gimmicks just genuine local brewer's beer and lots of local cuisine. Their own Dunkel (dark brown) brew was to die for, especially as a british real ale aficionado. Both malty and hoppy. As well as the classic bratwurst or 'real' frankfurter with lashings of kartofelen and sauerkraut there were several hearty dishes or very authentic home made soups. Even have a children's menu and there were fmiles enjoying an evening meal.
Tim B — Google review
Lovely restaurant with a nice beer garden. Tasty and well prepared local dishes. Located in the centre of Villach just beside the catholic church St Nicholas. Particular during summer a must visit place 👌
Georg ( — Google review
Drove from Ljubljana just to Villacher Brauhof to have a Schnitzel. We were quite disappointed with the meal as it felt quite bland and sides could have been better. Plus the meal was €17.50 and we were expecting more for it.
Andrew D — Google review
It was the second but last time I have visited the place. Came here with five more guests. Alltogether we were six person. Noone cared about us, noone welcomed us. The waiters just ignored us. We waited 10 minutes the just sit to a table. Another 10 minutes passed when a waiter came and said more than half of the menu is unavailable. Everyone around us ate from the other half of the menu. We have left immidiately. Horrible experience so to say.
Örs T — Google review
Very good Austrian restaurant. Delicious cuisine - especially cordon bleu. Good beer and lemonade produced by local brewery Villacher, which is located right behind the restaurant. Nice service. Very cozy courtyard, which is located in the shade of the trees at the backyard of the church of St. Nicholas. Great place for lunch after a walk around the city.

Authentic Japanese restaurant
Sakura is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Villach, offering an authentic Asian dining experience. The restaurant provides a rich lunch buffet and a diverse menu featuring a wide range of Asian delicacies. Guests can enjoy a cozy ambiance and friendly atmosphere while indulging in delicious Japanese and Asian dishes, including sushi, vegetarian, healthy, and even vegan options. The establishment also offers a variety of beverages presented in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
Weren't too hungry, so we ordered from the menu instead of doing the all you can eat. My wife's sushi bento came with lovely salmon sashimi, and my veggie udon soup was wonderfully flavorful. Food was great, service was friendly. Quite busy and bustling, so depending on who you're seated by, might get a bit overwhelming for some. They do often sit multiple parties of people at the same large tables. Overall, can't complain!
Cord T — Google review
Nice Japanese restaurant in walking distance from the city center. The menu also includes some Thai and Chinese dishes. Vegan options available. Service was friendly and fast. The food tasted pretty good (especially the sushi) but wasn’t among the best Japanese I have had.

Surprisingly good buffet for a fair price, there is soup and desert included! Waiters very friendly with genuily smile. Lots of locals coming here. Side note: on their website 33cl coca cola 1.8€, but on the menu more then 3€. Men's toilet was broken. This wasn't disturbing, we definitely come back.

Guests rave about the attentive and friendly service, making every visit feel special. The ambiance is inviting, whether you're enjoying a meal inside or taking your food to go while camping nearby.
A beautiful place to go for a meal. We were passing by the the night and ordered a few drinks and a pizza and chips to take back to the campsite behind the restaurant . The restaurant itself was stunning and immaculately clean . The service was great and the food delicious .

We love Nicoletta ! Their calamari stuffed with spinach are delicious. Although they have mostly pizza and pasta. We didn’t get to try it , as we tried the calamari and failed in love. As some of the members of the family need gluten free, they recommended us to take potatos in Rosmarin. Highly recommended!

One of best cabonara I have ever had. The calamari is xuất sắc as well. Just to let you know I am not a fan of European cuisine so to me this is a very good experience.

Good taste of food (had calamari). The restaurant was full but not crowded and we still got our food very fast. The the waiters are very attentive and friendly but colorful in a special way. You can actual park in front of other near restaurant they are together.

Best place in Austria 🇦🇹 hands down. Best garlic soup 🍲 . Example of 5 people dinner 2 portion of potato 3 soup drinks and 3 main plates 170€ . But you going there for the best soup that all ❤️‍🔥see you next time
Apologies — Google review
We stopped on the way from Slovenia to Germany to eat some good "Schnitzel". The portion sizes were generous, the food was excellent and the service was friendly and fast - despite the place being very busy at the time. For reference, the entire parking lot was maxed out. Almost all tables full. Yet we got served immediately, with attention and the food arrived with only a short wait. The Schnitzel were thin and crispy, with a large side of fries and Ketchup aswell as berry-jam and a slice of lemon. The only improvement suggestion I have is to add pepper/salt shakers to the table. Personally I would've liked a bit more salt on the fries.
Tom V — Google review
Nice place, very convenient location at the edge of town, easy to park. Don’t expect any gourmet food, but the service and the terrace are nice.
Anže V — Google review
Well as a very good restaurant I was quite sad and disappointed to check the receipt at the end in the car 5 min later to see that I got a additional 5,30€ charge for something that we didn't even order. We didn't say anything because we thought that was fine and could have counted as tip because the service and atmosphere and food of course was incredible! Recommended restaurant quite good experience!

Nice atmosphere, very good service We were seeking for gluten free choices and found very attentive staff helping us with finding the right choices for us The plates are big, so we were recommended to take 3 plates for family of 4 , and it was indeed more than enough. The food was tasty and original. The pork steak was dry though, I guess slightly overcooked
Lena K — Google review
It took 1 hour to get a soup. And another 40 minutes to get a steak. And the rain started and inside everything was full! We couldn't eat. They asked to wait until the rain will stop. And they said: sorry with a big smile. For us it was a very bad experience.

We enjoyed one dinner at this restaurant on our vacation at Villach. We reserved table beforehand, but they have lost the reservation? Luckily there was a table for us at the street patio as we wanted. Service was friendly not the fastest but acceptable. The food (liver) was served from cold pan, so I have to hurry with eating and in spite of that the rest of food was lukewarm. But it was very tasty.

The schnitzel is cooked until a little too dry. But the garlic soup and tomato soup were a-okay.
