Welcome to Storiel, a vibrant cultural hub nestled in the heart of Bangor! Recently rebranded and reopened by the Gwynedd Council, this museum and art gallery is housed in the historic Bishops Palace, a stunning Grade II listed building dating back to the 16th century. After an extensive renovation project, Storiel now boasts an array of modern facilities including community exhibition spaces, diverse art galleries, engaging museum exhibits, and even a cozy café serving delicious hot and cold meals.
Visit to the museum is free of cost. Has a good collection of art . Worth visiting if you're in North Wales. There are car parking slots near the museum. We visited during a week day in winter. So it was not crowded at all.

A good small local museum, with the emphasis on small. Won't take much more than 30-40 mins. Really good exhibitions of modern Welsh artists in the galleries when we visited. Nice selection of local historical items but does suffer from the curse of modern curation: in the effort to 'tell a story' it misses the basics, half the items don't have dates for example which is frustrating and more than a few missing provenance information too. Really enjoyed this as a short interesting visit.
Callum J — Google review
Went to the exhibition of Frank Brangwyn drawings and paintings. Great exhibition and I loved the little film about him, too. Lovely place; highly recommended
Sue W — Google review
Loved this museum, lots of interesting things about Wales and the Welsh Language, Staff were friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Tara G — Google review
The museum is called 'Storiel'. I don't know what that means. I was in there only about thirty minutes (half the time I was in the cathedral). This is not because there is not much of interest - there is much to see of local archaeological discoveries, social history, and industrial traditions. And it is all displayed well in a professional and user-friendly manner. BUT, the art gallery was full of only contemporary pieces and there was only one item that attracted my eye. This may be because of limited space, curatorial choice, or simply that this is what others want to see, but I was disappointed all the same.
Nicholas C — Google review
Very friendly staff and delicious food too. Ordered quiche salmon and cheese and scone with cream, butter & jam. Came at around 10 ish soanaged to avoid the peak hour time. Recommended
Bun B — Google review
Lovely building to start with..The museum was very interesting and we had some yummy food in the cafe. Very much enjoyed looking at the art. The gallery is very spacious and there were a couple of different artists which was very nice. The artwork was of a very high standard and we spent most of our time in the gallery area. The staff are so friendly and made us feel very welcome. There is a well stocked gift shop with some delightful and imaginative items at reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend a visit if you enjoy any of the above ! I would give it 10/10 and it doesn't cost a penny ! Thank you Storiel and your staff for a lovely time :)) x

Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Bangor Cathedral, located in the heart of the city's high street, has a rich history dating back to the 6th century. Originally built to evade Viking raiders, it now stands as a prominent Gothic structure dedicated to Saint Deiniol, Bangor's first bishop. The cathedral boasts remarkable architecture and houses notable sculptures like the Mostyn Christ and a unique Bible Garden featuring plants mentioned in biblical texts.
Very simple and calming cathedral but lots to see in details.
Takuto S — Google review
Lovely calm space. Less grandeur than you would normally associate with a cathedral.
Mark C — Google review
As others have said, the surrounding area is not at all pleasant, but the Cathedral is delightful. It is more akin to a largish church than one of the great English cathedrals, but it has a lovely warm feel, with a genuine welcome from staff and volunteers. Attractive furnishings, and the challenge of spotting the three Thompson mice carved on the woodwork. No charge to enter, though donations of course welcome.
Sarah M — Google review
A 15th century cathedral, though not a lot of that era left inside except the carving of Christ. Very interesting all the same.
Frances W — Google review
A quiet, understated cathedral with real charm. It doesn’t have the grandeur of some larger cathedrals, but that’s part of its appeal — simple, peaceful, and full of history. The architecture is modest but elegant, and the atmosphere inside is calm and reflective. Well worth stepping inside if you’re in Bangor.
Richie B — Google review
It's not a grand cathedral, but a nice calm space with plenty of history. The interesting copies of the medieval tiles are worth looking out for. If you're looking for grandeur in a cathedral then in Wales it would only be St David's, but worth looking around if you are in Bangor.
Paul H — Google review
A really warm and welcoming space with a lovely feel to it. Not to be compared with the vast Southern gothic cathedrals of England, this is more modest in scale and ambition. Some beautiful modern art, stunning woodwork by Robert "Mouseman" Thompson, and some fabulous replica medieval tiles. The only oddity was how little really old stuff there was to see. For a site dating back to the 7th century there were only bits and pieces of its ancient history to see. Overall felt like visiting a very well cared for Victorian church.
Callum J — Google review
Lovely place to visit and such a warm welcome, I had a lovely chat with the lady on duty and also spoke about the church I work at in London. It is well worth a visit to this beautiful church.

Garth Pier is a beloved attraction in Bangor, Wales, and it's easy to see why. This Victorian pier has won awards for its charm and offers stunning coastal views across the Menai Strait. Stretching 1,500 feet into the sea, it's the second-longest pier in Wales and provides a perfect spot for leisurely strolls or simply unwinding after a day of exploring the city.
Great little pier. With amazing views. Nice Cafe at the end with nice views of Anglesey. Maintained to a very good standard, for an old pier. You can go fishing off it. Car park just at the entrance only £3.00 & £1.00 admission to the Pier , good value for money 👍🍦
Paul C — Google review
Such a beautiful pier with spectacular views of the local area and coastline. Recommend anyone to visit see below photos which speak for thems... Absolutely spectacular place ❤️
Leon E — Google review
Such a lovely pier! The pier itself is beautiful and the views from it are just stunning 😍 I came there at the opening time on Saturday morning and there were quite a few people already walking, running, fishing. Card payments are accepted but bring cash (pound coins) in case nobody is at the kiosk to take a payment so you can just drop the money in the box.
Audrone S — Google review
Excellent pier. Allowed to stay over night in self-contained Motorhome. Great little cafe at the end of the pier. Lovely staff and cute shops.
Ian R — Google review
It all depends on what you want from a pier. If its arcade machines and noise then this is not for you. It costs £1 per person for admittance and gives you a lovely wake with beautiful views of the Menai Bridge and Beaumaris. There are a few small shops along the way which sell paintings, prints, ceramics, soft toys, foodie bits and dog treats. The cafe at the end is dog friendly and has toilets too. Nice to just sit and relax and take in the beautiful views.
Sally P — Google review
For just a £1 (for adult), this was a bargain price to enjoy a walk along this long pier. You get to see beautiful views of the Menai Straits, Anglesey and Snowdonia, and there are shops, toilets and eateries too. We enjoyed a visit here as part of a walk around the area.
Elizabeth B — Google review
Great little pier with incredible views. There's a couple of small shops which are quite interesting, places like this need looking after, they are part of our heritage. Please go and visit. Nice cafe at the end aswell, very friendly staff.
Glyn W — Google review
We really enjoyed our walk along this quaint pier which offers fantastic views of the Menai Straits, Anglesey and Puffin Island. Entry is £1 per person and goes towards the upkeep. The café at the end of the pier advertised that it is open 365 days a year, which is mighty impressive. Using the toilets at the café is a surreal experience as you view the water beneath you. There's electric car charging available and more toilets in the car pack. Well worth a quick detour if you're looking for things to do.

It is one of the founding institutions of the University of Wales and is located in the historic city of Bangor, known for its roots dating back to the 6th century AD.
Am continuing my distance learning course at with a Bangor tutor via distance learning after I had passed my Mynediad exam. Mrs. Carole Boyce prepared the entire class incredibly well to sit for the exam and a lot of us continued onto Sylfaen with her. Photos are from my 2024 trip to Bangor where I sat for my exam. Incredibly beautiful campus and land with a lot of cool cafes, across the Menai Bridge where I had walked over onto Môn.

Studied at this university for the better half of 2 weeks, I have not left the main arts building yet, I am lost, food supply is running low, water diminished, I am afraid, this labyrinth of dusty floors and empty rooms has defeated me. however scenic views

I went to university here to study Business and Computer Information Systems. Bangor Uni is a great place with great lecturers and lots of support from everybody to integrate into the community, to take part in activities and there is always something excited going on. The Student Union is doing an amazing job with the societies and clubs that are free to join, everybody is friendly and inclusive and apart from the usual Welsh weather, Bangor is gorgeous. I couldn't be happier and more satisfied for having chosen Bangor as my university and the place to learn and grow!

Beautiful part of wales with rolling mountains, forests and beautiful beaches. The University architecture is incredible, its a great place for learning with all the resources a student needs. The University really looks after its pupils.

A wonderful little café in Bangor, in my opinion the best in the city. A little quirky with various goods for sale, and I believe opening a bookstore on the side. Excellent range of teas and I am told good coffees. Range of home baked cakes and other delicacies to eat. Very relaxing place to rest, meet up, read, etc.
Paul H — Google review
Excellent little cafe offering a brilliant vegetarian lunch and proper coffee too. We enjoyed some very chilled live music in what must be one of the coolest spots in Bangor. Very friendly owner too. Highly recommended!
Gerard — Google review
I really wanted to like it here. The place is cute and cosy and vegan and dog friendly but... - when I asked if our chosen food is spicy I was told that it's not spicy at all - but it was very spicy to us... So if there are any seasonings that might make food spicy it should be known to the customer. Everyone has a different tolerance to spicy food - the lady who was preparing the food was using her bare hand to... Basically keep shepherd's pie, enchilada pie and SALADS (YES SALADS) in place and form them into piles on our plates. We are very anxious about germs etc so that was the final straw that prevented us from eating the whole thing. I'M BEGGING YOU, USE GLOVES! - and finally the food was simply mediocre. It was cold inside and both shepherd's pie and enchilada thing had the same bean/mince mix in them so they were almost the same altogether. Terrible experience for over 33 quid...

10/10 experience here, pink lemonade and dandelion and burdock drinks were brilliant. Great amount of vegetarian options, sesame loaded chips are gorgeous as well as the hummus and pita bread. Definitely will go back!

How wonderful was it to discover this place having been told by a lovely and funny local lady in the car park that there was nowhere worth visiting. (She had a white car with purple trims if you know her...tell her about this place please). We got chatting with the manager and loved the stories he told us about the owner and how he creates these wonderful dishes and the decor on the alleyway approaching the taproom and unisex toilets (very quirky). I delighted in a Bibimbap with chicken whilst hubby had a burger and some potatoes that were on the specials board. We both relished each dish with much delight. Not enthralled with Bangor itself but would certainly go back just to eat here again. Highly recommended.
Dawn R — Google review
A hidden little gem, took us a minute to find it tucked away on main high street. Very friendly staff, extremely welcoming. There is this Brazilian / Jamaican theme going on and food seems to be inspired with this in mind too. Any restaurant you go to where you can see them cooking your food from fresh only gives you confidence that you will get something worth the wait. Extremely tasty food! Full of flavour, really really very good.

I’ve eaten and drank here a number of times over the past couple of years. Each time I’ve visited the staff have been excellent, the coffee is outstanding and the choice and quality of the food is exceptional. Much of the menu is made in house, even their breads, beans and ketchup ! There is consistent an excellent line of high quality beers on tap (you won’t find any carling or madri nonsense here!!) and a well stocked fridge with cans and bottles from many different breweries. Would highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area!

Fresh quality cooked food with lovely dressings and marinades to add a delicious taste. A quirky, relaxed dining experience. Staff very welcoming and hospitable. A great in centre of Bangor. Coffees are delicious as well as their hot chocolates for the kids! Well worth a visit. We took our children and dog as we were able to sit downstairs. Chicken pitta, Korean chicken burger and chicken flatbread were our choices and they were very good indeed! Thanks Blue Sky Cafe

My wife and i were passing through Bangor 'Wales' when we decided to visit the pier. So glad we did, the local traders are the friendliest people. Half way up the pier there's a cafe called The Whistle Stop. The food is absolutely beautiful.I had Welsh rarebit, wow, if you're passing this small cafe be sure to try it! The owners give us some great ideas when travelling through Wales. There's a carpark right on the pier entrance and it's £1.50 for 24 hours. I parked my 8 m moterhome so there's plenty of room. There's a great selection of shops, bars and restaurants around the pier area.If you're passing through be sure to pop in, you won't be disappointed. 5 stars all the way

Absolutely amazing! The people where so kind and warm welcoming. I’m quite a picky eater so i always feel bad about removing stuff but they were happy to do so along side accommodating to my allergy. The food was amazing, i got the Chicken bacon avocado burger and a caramel iced latte! definitely worth the price! Would highly recommend!

I had a bacon sandwich on the 30th July in the morning it was absolutely disgusting bacon was not cooked properly and there was green stuff on plate and was ill later on. The guy who brought the drinks over was great. Just shame kitchen staff can’t cook the basic thing like bacon very fatty😡

Food was ok, I have been to a couple of lounge's now and you used to get a little pot of maple syrup with the pancakes which you don't now, just a little poured over top. So much better when I can add more myself. What I didn't appreciate is the chef walking through the place with absolutely filthy whites on and a cigarette in his mouth to smoke outside the main door. Surely there is somewhere out the back he can go. This doesn't look professional at all.

Stopped in for refreshment. Ordered lemon raspberry cake and Cowboy chai and flat white. The beverages weren't hot enough for our taste but the flavour and the cake were pleasant enough. Seems popular as there were quite a few customers on a Tuesday afternoon. Felt expensive for what we ordered - £17 for two drinks and two slices of cake.

We had a lovely brunch in Domu after a trip away to Bethesda with friends, stopping off in Bangor before we travelled home. We arrived early and were greeted with a warm welcome. The coffee was extremely good and the food delicious (so good I ate my gorgeous vegetarian pastry before I could take a photo!) I would really recommend Domu, a great vibe and lovely food and drink at a reasonable price!
