The Mammoth Museum is a unique and informative museum which displays exhibits on mammoths, their habitats and history. It showcases life-size fossil remains and an anatomical model of the mammoth. The museum is located in Yakutsk, which requires a 6-hour flight from other parts of Russia. Though it is the only mammoth museum in the world, it may not be necessary to visit unless you are interested in wintry creatures or prehistoric animals.
In the city of worlds most coolest city, The establishment of the World Mammoth Museum in 1991 as a scientific and cultural center for the study of the mammoth fauna and its habitat and the promotion of scientific knowledge was initiated by the first Yakut paleontologist Petr Alekseyevich Lazarev. In 1995, in order to strengthen the scientific research, the Museum became a part of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and was renamed to the Mammoth Museum. In July 1998, according to the Ordinance of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Museum was attached to the Institute of Applied Ecology of the North of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) as a structural unit. The Museum is engaged in research work. It also conducts research projects on unique findings, organizes the field work at the sites of the mammoth fauna. For the past twenty years, the museum staff have excavated and studied almost all the important findings of the mammoth fauna animals found in Yakutia: Maksunuohsky mammoth, Yukagirsky mammoth, Oimyakonsky and Hromskoy mammoth calves, Kolyma woolly rhinoceros and others.

This is a really informative place only if you know Russian or have Russian guide at hand. I really love the anatomical model of mammoth. It’s only the mammoth museum in the world. The mammoth’s skeleton here is really complete. If you’re in Yakutsk, it’s a must. If you’re in Russia, it’s unnecessary to take 6-hour flight here unless you are a fan of wintry creatures. Here your shoes are charged additional 5 RUB. I’m coming with the conference team so I’m not quite sure whether they will charge an admission fee or not.

i think that the mammoth museum will not leave anyone indifferent. The museum contains not only the remains and corpses of mammoths, but also other ancient animals, such as dinosaurs, rhines, cave lions. I really liked the museum, some kind of fantasy!
Туйаара Ф — Google review
For many travelers P.A. Lazarev Mammoth Museum Laboratory is the best museum in all of Yakutia. It is a history buff's dream containing artifacts in the millions. The immense collection can make an initial museum visit seem overwhelming. The museum has the skeletons of mammoths and you can learn a lot about the birth and life of mammoths. There is the opportunity to watch a documentary. Very informative and, most importantly, clear and realistic. It will appeal not only to children, but also to adults. Even if you don't consider yourself an amateur historian, you'll still want to stop by – the museum truly has something for everyone.

If there's one thing Siberia has plenty of, it's pre-historic Mammoths!.. and no better place to learn about them than right here at the Mammoth Museum in Yakutsk. During our visit in Dec 2015, we were fortunate to be guided by one of its curators, Sergei Fedorov, who is a field expert in paleontology.

The Kingdom of Permafrost in Yakutsk is a fascinating attraction featuring two neon-lit tunnels filled with stunning ice sculptures that never melt. The temperature inside the kingdom is a relatively mild -15°C compared to the frigid -48°C outside. Visitors can explore this labyrinthine place and marvel at the surreal ice sculptures, thrones, and even ride a toboggan.
Simply a must visit if you come to Yakutsk! A great collection of ice sculptures, in a labyrinth like place, digged into the permafrost (the lower level of the ground that is permanently frozen throughout the year). The place is simply marvelous, and makes you feel like you enter another world! The staff is very friendly, helpful, and English speaking too! The ticket price for adults is 500 rubles, but you certainly won't regret it! Be careful where you step! There are certain spots that are quite slippery!
Vasilis K — Google review
This is the best of Yakutsk so far. The permafrost is stunning, shining brightly like pieces of crystals. There are a lot of views and shapes to snap. I’m thrilled by the exquisite profession of creators. If you have been to Yakutsk, there is no excuse not to come to this place! In addition, it’s much colder inside. Also, our attache told us that it’s much more impressive to visit during the summer. It’s frozen as well!!!
63-050 ค — Google review
Expensive (very!). Not suitable for people with disabilities. An unpleasant surprise awaits you just outside the door. Slippery floor (without carpet) and a door that can't be opened because it is primed! No slip-resistant carpet in the labyrinth, which makes this object extremely traumatic! be careful and attentive! At the entrance you can take a coat, shoes (not disposable, be careful)!!! Ice figures are uninteresting, there are such figures in any park in winter for a lower price. Some of the exhibits were closed. No toilet. A lot of little screaming children :(

This is an amazing place to spend an hour or two if you're in Yakutsk. We visited during December of 2015.. of course it was much colder outside at -48°C than inside the Permafrost Kingdom (-15°C). It was a real treat to be shown around by Chys Khan's (keeper of the frost) daughter.. the prettiest girl in Yakutia! In addition to all the wonderful things you'll learn about permafrost here, there's surreal ice sculptures, thrones and even a toboggan you and the kids can ride.. just to let your hair down in this magical kingdom.
Stephen S — Google review
An awesome, unexpected experience in the summer. I especially enjoyed riding the “luge”. Apparently one can book the curling rink, though the need to wear hard hats might be a problem.
Edward D — Google review
Absolutely fantastic, the ice sculptures were incredible and they even had a kitchen made out of ice, the kids absolutely loved it! In fact, we left our kids there and we haven't seen them in 10 years, hope the kitchen hasn't melted.

The National Art Museum is a remarkable institution that offers an enriching experience for visitors. It delves into the depths of Sakha culture, showcasing local minerals and providing valuable information on the region's first Russian settlers. The Regional History Museum is worth the visit, despite its distance from Sorocaba. However, if proximity is a concern, the Ipiranga museum in SP can be considered as an alternative option.
I have visited the place before and it was the media headquarters for the Asian Games in Sakha-Yakutia. I will visit it in the future and enjoy the art museum.

(Translated by Google) Yesterday, my fourth-grader and I visited the Clock and Epoch exhibition. There are few exhibits. Tickets are expensive. It is impossible to order a guide. It was necessary to order in advance. There are descriptions of the exhibits, but this is completely different from the live voice of a guide to whom you can ask questions. We just returned from vacation, in the central cities of Russia, everywhere you can book an excursion by buying a ticket. Guides are always on site, at least the tour will be in a maximum of 40-60 minutes. But simply hanging and arranging exhibits and taking that kind of money is a convenient way for the organizers, but a disappointment for visitors.

Chochur Muran is a popular restaurant in Yakutsk, offering authentic local cuisine and a pleasant dining atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its traditional dishes, including raw meat, and provides a wide selection of Yakutsk souvenirs at the nearby store 'Kudai Bakhsy'. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful decoration and friendly service across two floors of the restaurant. Additionally, those looking to explore beyond culinary delights can visit the National Art Museum located nearby on Lenin Square.
Great restaurant and museum with delicious Russian and national dishes. Three floors of museum, Yakutsk souvenirs and fun. Dog sledding as an option. Very good desserts - try frozen brusnika with sgushenka in Lakomka dessert, it is great! Good choice of fish as well.

A fantastic complex of traditional Yakutian houses! The main building houses a three floor restaurant with great local cuisine, which is literally transformed into a little folklore museum! The overall environment is very cozy, the music is very relaxing, and the staff very friendly. You can also have a small ride with a dog's sledge on the nearby frozen lake, for 300 rubles! Just two things need to be improved: the portions in the restaurant should be bigger for what you pay, and the sledge ride should be a little longer, not just a couple of minutes!

The Yakutsk Regional History Museum is a three-floor repository of local culture and history, showcasing exhibits ranging from prehistoric relics to civil war artifacts. The museum also delves into the culinary traditions of the Sakha people, highlighting how extreme climatic conditions have shaped their traditional diet focused on survival in harsh Siberian winters. Additionally, it features a popular zoo with hardy fauna. Visitors recommend allowing ample time to explore the extensive and informative exhibitions that emphasize the region's unique characteristics.
The museum consists of pretty much everything you can find it throughout Yakutia! From the ancient ages to modern Russia, the Russian Empire, the USSR, and the Russian Federation. Sadly, it’s Russian. Still, you can ask the guide because she is quite adept in English. If you love history, this is all about Yakutia!!! Additionally, there are a number of local animals and their touchable wools. I really enjoyed it. You should have more than an hour to go through the detail. Eventually, I recommend you have a visit when you’re in Yakutsk!! Plus, the neighbouring church is an gorgeous orthodox as well.

The Yakutsk Regional History Museum is a fascinating place to explore the rich cultural and natural heritage of the Sakha Republic. Its exhibits cover a wide range of topics, from the history of the indigenous peoples and their unique traditions to the harsh but beautiful Arctic environment. Visitors can see everything from traditional clothing, tools, and artifacts to archaeological finds that shed light on the region’s deep past. One of the highlights is the display of preserved Ice Age animals, which gives a unique perspective on the prehistoric world that once existed here. The museum is well-organized and informative, making it accessible both to those with a casual interest and to dedicated history enthusiasts. It offers valuable insight into the resilience and creativity of the people who have lived in this extreme climate for centuries. For anyone visiting Yakutsk, the museum is an essential stop to better understand the region’s identity, culture, and remarkable history.

Its well-curated exhibits, coupled with impressive architecture, create an aesthetically pleasing and educational atmosphere. The knowledgeable staff adds a personal touch to the visit. While interactive features could enhance the experience, it remains a must-visit for history and art enthusiasts. ★★★★☆

The Yakutsk Regional History Museum is a profoundly moving testament to the unyielding spirit of survival in the face of nature's harshest extremes, a true cultural gem in the heart of the world's coldest city. Visitors are immediately struck by the emotional depth of the exhibits, which vividly portray how the indigenous Sakha people transformed the deadly Siberian permafrost into a way of life, turning mammoths, fur, and ice into a rich, resilient culture. It's a journey through time where you don't just see artifacts, but feel the courageous heartbeat of the North, leaving you with a deep, newfound reverence for the multifaceted spirit of the northerners who have masterfully built a heritage around the poetic, frozen landscape of Yakutia.
İbrahim K — Google review
The Museum of History and Culture of The People of The North is a trove of some of the world's most noted antiquities. This museum tells about the natural features of Yakutia, archaeological sites and the history of Yakutia from the 17th to the 20th century. It is truly diverse and interesting. There are several halls in this museum. It has the Department of Nature, the Department of Archeology and Ethnography, the Department of History. Not only adults, but also children will like it here, because can see dinosaurs, mammoths, tigers, etc. The exhibition definitely leaves no one indifferent. The presented exhibits can make it clear the multifaceted spirit of the northerners. After visiting the museum, I had a desire to learn more about this region. I advise you to visit this amazing place. You can independently examine the exhibits, which is much less interesting than a guide lecture. So I definitely recommend everyone to visit the museum only with a guided tour!

Nestled within walking distance from the heart of the Old City, Makhtal is a delightful gem that specializes in authentic Yakutian cuisine. The restaurant boasts a cozy wooden interior adorned with traditional decor, creating an inviting atmosphere for diners. Here, you can savor unique dishes like chir stroganina and boiled foal meat paired with cranberry sauce, alongside local favorites such as salamat and kuerchekh.
All 3 dinners were really enjoyable thanks to lovely Kate (Ekaterina) and team! Kate introduced herself and quickly apologized for not speaking English although she did well! :) Shortly after our orders she brought out homemade nastoika shots on the house as a welcome! We loved it so much we kept ordering and reordering and eventually on our third visit ordered 0.5L! We enjoyed every dish! Although on the night there was a “banquet” at the same time by the Children of Asia delegation, our Stroganina and Salamaat were not as good as the night before. Our Stroganina was fishier-tasting, and our Salamaat was comparatively bland… but still pretty satisfying and Kate and colleagues’ service more than made up for it! Kate had also helped us book taxis and even escorted us to our ride every time and made sure she explained correctly to the taxi our destination and assured them that we were paying in cash. Toilets were spotless and fresh smelling, with lotion for use even! Even Makhtal at the Ysyakh festival was pretty good! They had a special Ysyakh menu which included pork shashlik that’s not served at the restaurant. The Indigirka was not bad either but still preferred the restaurant’s Stroganina (not available at the festival). Makhtal Kate and team!

Wok Cafe in Yakutsk is a delightful spot for those craving authentic Pan-Asian cuisine. Diners rave about the delicious dishes and cozy atmosphere, making it an inviting place to enjoy a meal. The service is commendable, adding to the overall pleasant experience. On one of our visits, we were served a cold main course, then the waiter warmed it up in the microwave. Further, as an apology, the administrator provided a coupon with a 50% discount for everyone at the table. When we visited again, we were denied the use of the discount for each, and the opportunity to use only one coupon. I would like to note that everyone always pays their bill separately. This requirement was not specified in the coupon conditions (Original)
