Museums
Located atop the Caroline Amalie Lund park, the Horsens Art Museum is a striking and beautiful building that captivates visitors with its allure. Despite its small size, it offers a range of interesting exhibitions that focus on quality over quantity. The museum primarily showcases contemporary art and provides a calm and pleasant environment for visitors to explore. While not all exhibits may be suitable for children, the museum's friendly and knowledgeable staff contribute to making each visit memorable.
The collection might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the concept of following an artist's journey through years is an interesting way to dive in one's work. Contemporary art by Danish artists

I felt a little weird, scared and funny at the same time! Weird art, but thats also art! Really beautifull! Hygiene was really good, clean toilets, very friendly staff, cheap payed 200-300kr for 4p.

I really liked that place, it's small but well organized with some good art. There is also a buffet. I recommend. 5.0.2024 Update Back after 5 years since my last visit. I'm a bit disappointed: less exhibitions, less souvenirs. I think that the buffet has a bigger success...

Nice little art museum. Got locked inside and had to call front desk to get out, just as the receptionist was leaving! The restaurant is nice too!! PS. the brown sauce burger in the restaurant is an acquired taste ;-)

I am from San Diego and fount this Incredible Art Museum in Horsens. While I was visiting, I was approached by a lovely knowledgeable employee. Her name was Jette. She spoke beautiful English and made my visit to the museum and Horsens wonderfully memorable. What a great asset Jette is to the Horsens Art Museum.

FÆNGSLET, a former state penitentiary turned museum, offers interactive exhibits and guided tours led by former inmates. The prison's unconventional history includes prisoners freely roaming in the evenings and working in workshops during the day. Additionally, the venue hosts concerts within its walls for a unique music experience.
We came here during the medieval festival around August every year. They made it looked it really during the medieval era. There were plays, dances and activities for visitors to try. Plenty of drinks and Foods also to taste. Kids will definitely enjoy here ada there were many activities for them and some playgrounds. With plenty of parking space but better to be early as it gets full after lunch already.

This prison museum was incredibly interesting and left a deep impression. I found every section engaging, with new and informative displays around each corner. The basement was the most impactful part for me — especially the photo of a former prisoner, which really stayed with me. Most of the written information is available in English, making it easy to follow along. However, the films are all in Danish, so keep that in mind if you don’t speak the language. Overall, a powerful and well-designed museum that I definitely recommend visiting.

It was okay but we had smaller children and it was not very interesting for them. The biker gang stuff, the contraband search game and the escape tunnel were good though and I would still recommend it if people have the time.

Faengslet as an event site has potential but it is cold everywhere. The atmosphere is authentic but low-key. We had a great event!

Amazing history museum in an old prison. It guides you through history of Danish penal system and engages you with stories of Danish criminal underground and increduble jailbreaks.

A nice stay. Extra plus for the good beds and superb bed lining. On the downside it smelled of mold in the sleeping area. The museum was a treat and the whole family enjoyed it.

Natural History Museums
Horsens Museum, established in 1906, is dedicated to preserving the city's historical and artistic heritage. The museum boasts a collection of over 25,000 objects, including archaeological artifacts. Visitors can explore the fascinating story of explorer Vitus Bering and his expeditions in Russian service, which mapped the passage between Russia and Alaska. The museum offers insights into the history of the Baltic Sea region as well.
There was an amazing quest in the museum. Surprises and gifts for the winners! It was interesting for both children and adults. We recommend!Breathtaking! We would like to go again. The children were delighted! Thanks a lot!

A nice museum with plenty of interesting stuff to see but unfortunately almost nothing to read in english which meant that we pretty much looked at walls of text in danish. Dissapointing for an institution which by definition should be tourist friendly.

Most of the trip is along the lake shore and often in the forest at the same time. You can possibly park at Rema 1000, where you can also buy cold drinks, for example, without breaking the bank. You can also drive out to some of the places along the lake and sit and enjoy the view of the lake at the tables and benches set up. From the lake you can cross the road and continue into Bygholm Park. (Original) Fantastisk rekreativ område i Horsens. Man kan gå på flere stier rundt om søen. Nestled in the charming town of Horsens, Dollys is a delightful restaurant and bar that promises an inviting atmosphere perfect for a cozy evening out. Known for its delicious Danish cuisine crafted from fresh ingredients, Dollys offers a menu filled with tempting options, including their renowned roast pork. The restaurant's location near vibrant street art adds to the overall experience, making it an ideal spot to unwind after exploring the local sights.
If you’re on the hunt for genuine Danish 🇩🇰 cuisine, this restaurant is worth checking out. The menu boasts a variety of traditional dishes, with occasional modern twists that add an interesting flair. We indulged in a flavorful salmon salad, perfectly fried fish, and burgers draped in a sensational gravy sauce. The ingredients are top-notch, and the portion sizes strike the right balance. I’d also strongly recommend trying the house brand pale ale; it’s a standout. Service was swift and warm, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to the diverse options for both lunch and dinner, we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

This is a very nice, cozy restaurant, with what struck me as a typically Danish atmosphere. It is located near the marina. I took the house-specialty, fried pork. I'm very glad I did. It was a fantastic dish. The service was perfect. As was, their Danish New England- style IPA. A nice place.

I must say I might not be a big Danish food fan. Ordered the pork belly roasted and they made it too hard for me to chew on it. I was hungry but because the way it was cooked too hard, I ended up having to mix the gravy together for this. My wife ordered a fish seafood cold dish but still good enough. Overall, beautiful restaurant ! Food average!

A real local Danish experience! After a good business meeting, our clients recommended Dollys and this place is a real historical site in Horsens. Originally a shelter that provided warmth and food to the homeless, now one of the few that truly serves traditional Danish cusine. We ordered: -STEGT FLÆSK: A traditional dish that served crispy oven baked pork with a side of potatoes and parsley sauce. -Traditional Danish beer -CitronFromage: a traditional dessert, lemon pudding with whipped cream topping. The restaurant just gives you a local vibe and atmosphere with diverse customers from family to couples to a bunch of friends gathering, it was live with energy! Food was amazing! Really happy to be able to try traditional Danish cuisine that is hard to find nowadays! Will not disappoint and portions are big so come with an appetite! Service was superb! The waiters are Fluent in english and they came to check us once in a while and made sure we were satisfied or need any refills. Overall, locals or tourists, I highly recommend this place to have a great experience and a happy stomach!

I'm so glad I decided to visit dolly's. It truly is a Danish diner. The atmosphere reflects the sleepy town that Horsens is. (In a good way) this is the kind of place where you bring your parents and grandparents for a family dinner. I enjoyed the food and the care that the waiting staff takes of u.

There is a nice restaurant, what we found on the map. We were surprised that usually people need to book the table because it's a popular place. We were lucky to get the table, and the food was much better than our expectations. The service was excellent and we get very good description of the dishes. The food tasted very good. Every dish was very good prepared. I highly recommend this place.

(Translated by Google) I had the pleasure of celebrating a friend's birthday at this very special and fantastic restaurant. We were welcomed with a cozy atmosphere and a pleasant smell of wood, which contrasted quite well with the cold and wet November weather. All 3 of us chose the juice menu and it's a great non-alcoholic alternative. Each time we got a new one we were thrilled with the taste and like everything else this restaurant has to offer, they are locally sourced. It was a great pleasure for all three of us to go through the menu and every mouthful was an exquisite experience. We could just sit and laugh and talk, and Jimi is a fantastically friendly and interesting host. Each dish was presented with details of where the various ingredients came from, we even learned about Dorthe from Mariager, who supplies the truffles. In every way, an experience with a focus on good fun, delicious food and that very special feeling of joy that can only come when something is done with love. As a final spice to our experience, we walked past the restaurant 5 minutes later where the owner opened the door and offered us an umbrella and wished us a good evening. We felt well taken care of tonight in every way and a resounding THANK YOU must be heard from all three of us ❤️ (Original) Jeg havde fornøjelsen af at fejre en venindes fødselsdag på denne helt særlige og fantastiske restaurant.

Both locals and visitors frequent this popular cafe for its relaxed ambiance and central location.

Tasty brunch with a wide selection on the plate. The presentation on the plate was nice for both eyes and nose. They forgot the bacon, but when I asked for it, they apologized and served it with a smile. Very nice service. The price level was low. I had the Rhubarb lemonade to go with the brunch. It was fresh with a note of sweetness. So nice. The café is decorated with a dark but cosy interior, and the toilets were nice and clean. Highly recommendable.

Absolutely lovely place. Went here for lunch during our holiday. Staff was great and the food was very good. We spent around 900, including drinks and it was worth every krone. It was a little 'out of the way' but definitely worth the short walk there!

I really like this restaurant and come every time I'm in Denmark, so I was a little disappointed this time. I had the shooting star which looked great but alas the breaded fish was overcooked and dry, the fish eggs were replaced by some randomly placed white fish on the side. They have a new service call button to speed up service but in effect pushing it twice 10 minutes apart got me no service and I resorted to just grabbing someone's attention. On the bright side the lemonade and cappuccino were really good.

I took the small brunch, very good and also big enough. The place is cosy and the staff is friendly. There's no English menu apparently. The service takes 40mn for a salad and 2 brunch, but if you're not in a rush, that's OK.

At Kesar I got to try immensely delicious chicken dishes. The balance and rich nuance of spices is on point. The meat was tender in just the right way. The rice was cooked to perfection. You'll also receive good treatment from the nice waiters and other staff here. And while you wait, a cozy waiting space is available. The setting is lovely. Lit, but not too bright. Beautiful and clean decor. Overall very cozy spaces. It's a little loud at times, but it is to be expected in a big place like this. One of, if not the, best Indian place(s) I've tried here in Denmark, so I highly recommend it if you're into Indian (and if you're not, give it a try anyway!).

First of all, the food was really delicious and well-received. However, they have issues with their wine and spirits service. The portions were so small that it was almost hard to see the drink in the glass. They definitely need to improve their wine and spirits offerings. Compared to other restaurants I've been to, the drink service here was disappointing.

Wow , what a fantastic taste , all the food are very delicious and quantity is huge , each main dish can be eaten by 2 people , luckily we can take away the extra food . Shrimps and lamb in the started are awesome , main dishes briyani is huge but taste wise same like in Indian taste , I like very much the taste , texture , and quantity are fantastic. I recommend kesar Indian restaurant to my Indian friends in Denmark .

The service is fantastic, our waitress was very friendly and quick. The atmosphere is very nice and spacious, however if you get seated at certain tables, you might get a tiny garden style table and chairs which isn't very comfy and feels cramped. The food however was disappointing for us. It's very "danish style Indian" food, don't expect any heat from the curries. Both our curries tasted somewhat similar, closer to a tomato sauce than a curry. It is still tasty, but don't go there expecting some "real" Indian food. The flavors and spice level are definitely adapted for the danish market, which is understandable, but it is still disappointing if that isn't your expectation. Portions are also on the smaller side.
