Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is a mountainous Greek paradise with lush gorges, charming whitewashed villages, and ancient ruins. Known for its consistent winds, especially during summer, it offers over 240 days of strong winds annually. Naxos Kitesurf Club provides an unspoiled kitesurfing haven with a long sandy beach and turquoise waters.
Came here on holiday for four nights with my partner and really enjoyed it. Stayed at Plaka Beach We hired a car (highly recommended), and followed the suggestions of the hotel to visit Alkyo Beach and then Agiassos Beach for a swim and lunch under the trees overlooking the water. A visit to the former capital of Chalkio was great, and nearby Filoti. The rental car company delivers the car empty of fuel, and you are meant to return the car empty. That’s a bit of a con, how much fuel will you need? Not much as it turned out, a lot less than we put in anyway. Agreat island to visit. If you like my review, please “like” it so others can benefit. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Beautiful island… beaches and mountains… delicious food and warm people! It’s one of those places you never wanna leave and if you leave, you definitely want to go back again!

Naxos Island is one of the places you must visit, a beautiful place with friendly local people and delicious food. My 6 days in Naxos Island and really enjoyed my holiday in October🥰🧿
Jarwati P — Google review
I love this island, is my favorite among the Cyclades so far, naturally beautiful but its greatest asset is its wonderful, kind people
Maria L — Google review
Beautiful island with beautiful beaches and clear water. For help everyone can ask me where to stay and eat. Please avoid to rent a car if you live in centre because they don't have parking space. When you need just go and rent a car. Please remember that the car must be dry inside because they will charge you 200 euro. But is great place for families and couples.
Valentin V — Google review
If you are looking for amazing beaches, good food and a decent Aegean/Cycladic island with lots of deceivers.. look no further!
Emmanouil M — Google review
Huge island with no infrastructure to cope with so many people and vehicles, especially during August. Horrible roads, not enough signs , locals with dead wish, driving reckless and no sign of police. Urban sprawl and debris in the open fields complete the scenery. Pity, cause the island could be a paradise with some effort.

Ancient Ruins
Naxos, the largest of the Cyclades islands, is a treasure trove of history and natural beauty. The island boasts seven museums showcasing artifacts from various periods, including the Archaeological Museum with exhibits dating back to the Neolithic period. Visitors can explore ancient ruins like the doorlike remains of the Temple of Apollo and wander through Chora's Venetian castle.
Beautiful/ Majestic structure. The wind felt amazing, after being under the sun for so long, but hard to use a selfie stick 😆. It is a must spot to take pictures and learn about Greek history.
Marco P — Google review
Free entrance to this beautiful monument placed just close to the main city. A lot of people during sunset but manageable. It is a amall hike to get to the top, but most should be able to do it.
Emil N — Google review
A beautiful Portara on Naxos, located out on a small rocky islet connected to the mainland by a easy walkable path. Beautiful view looking back at the town and port. I wanted to make it out for sunset, but it was cloudy. A definite must do when in Naxos.
Ronnie A — Google review
Beautiful site. Best seen during the day if you want to avoid crowds. However, the sunset there is stunning if you’re happy to share the space with a large crowd 👌 the site is free which is great and is literal only a few minutes from the port and a plethora of restaurants and the Venetian castle which is also stunning
Rosalie H — Google review
Beautiful temple remains, look absolutely stunning lit up at night (and you miss the crowds). Nice manageable steps and path, though it gets a bit slippery in the rain. Great views back into the town as well.
Claudia S — Google review
If you’re in Naxos, this is definitely a must-visit. The view from the temple is absolutely mesmerizing—worth every step. The whole visit doesn’t take more than 15 minutes, but the breathtaking scenery makes it unforgettable. Standing there, overlooking the sea, you can almost hear your own heartbeat.
Reine N — Google review
Come here at sunset, like all the other tourists. (If the weather is good.) It's a must see, must do experience. The golden light makes the stone glow. Somewhere in the large crowd on the day of our visit, an unknown disrespectful idiot was flying a drone above the Portara. Please stay home with your drone. And don't pretend to be Hercules and pick up a large stone like someone did recently. The Temple of Apollo may be unfinished except for this Portara, but let it be as it is. Please.
Ed M — Google review
Obviously very crowded during sunset. The views are nice but you can find many more better places on the island to enjoy same views. The temple is surrounded by high and ugly fence which is visible on all pictures. Pity not many descriptions exist or I simply missed them in the crowd.

Castle
The Venetian Castle of Naxos is a remarkable edifice with thick walls made of large rocks, showcasing traditional medieval architecture. The narrow streets are now lined with shops and Greek tavernas offering exceptional local produce and meats. Visitors can explore the Mycenaean City of Grotta, various museums, the Catholic Church, and the Central Tower within the Chora and main square.
It’s fun to walk through the ancient streets and discover the shops, art gallery and cafes. There’s is a lot of restoration happening at the moment which is nice to see. One worker let us peak our heads inside a door and see the gigantic beautiful room they were restoring. You can get a feel for what it was like back then and pretty amazing to imagine how they lived. The museum is nice and can see the old boarding school that it later became with some photos and brief history. Lunch on the roof top cafe was fabulous- food and service !
Lisa C — Google review
Pretty neat place, We came during off season so none of the insides were open to see. It was a cool experience walking around the streets and seeing all the old architecture.
Makai Y — Google review
Great place to visit in Naxos. I went here at the recommendation of a friend and it’s a sprawling area with some little shops and a museum and cute little alleyways. Up some amount of stairs but not difficult to get to at all.
Sarah C — Google review
The town was built around the castle as a maze to fend off pirates. There are tiny doors and windows as you walk around the castle and some ruins to show how they protected their belongings and is fascinating to walk around.
J L — Google review
Nice place, now they make reconstruction, have view from the top to all city, sea and Apolon door
Yuliy V — Google review
The castle is currently in renovations and only the kitchen is visible plus a few items from the castle.
I.S. — Google review
The walk up to the castle is really cool.
Mike R — Google review
It's there but If nobody told you you wouldn't know it. This former Venetian castle has been integrated into the fabric of the city so much that you can no longer tell it apart from private dwellings. The castle itself isn't very special. If you've seen castles before this one will rank low on your list. It is free to enter though and there is a swanky bar at the very top that provides a nice view of the town and harbor.

Known for its friendly service and delicious food, Scirocco impresses diners with its wonderful appetizers and high-quality ingredients.
Best food we had in Naxos by far! We actually came twice because it was that good. The menu has so many amazing options, and everything we tried was a 10/10. I can’t thank the staff enough, they were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Honestly, just amazinggggg! Highly recommend.

Amazing restaurant highly recommend !! We made a reservation for this restaurant our last day in the island. The food is amazing, the service was above and beyond, and we even got a limoncello sorbet on the house. Definitely recommend having a reservation. We thankfully made one, there was a line of people waiting when we got there. We ordered the Dolmades, Zucchini Balls, Stifado (rabbit), and Sikoti (beef liver). Portions of the main entree are big. All of them were amazing, definitely recommend the Zucchini Balls, super tasty !
Daniela C — Google review
Wow what a treat this meal was!! Such a warm welcome from the staff - great service, so much fun. The food itself - absolutely delicious. I will think about that beef with orzo for a long time, but everything was just delicious. Thankyou for having us!! Hope to return.
Claudia F — Google review
We stopped in without a reservation and had to wait less than 15 minutes to get a table street side. The service was so quick and courteous. We asked for their opinions on how much to order if we wanted to share everything and were immensely satiated. We got vinegar octopus (cold dish), an arugula salad with balsamic glaze and Naxian cheese which was delicious, and the moussaka that we ate so quickly that we didn’t get a picture 😅
Laura D — Google review
An exceptional meal - my favourite from three weeks in Greece. I had the fava, dolmades, and shrimp orzo - they were all incredible, but the orzo was particularly outstanding. Friendly and attentive service too!
Charlotte B — Google review
Everything we ordered was super tasty and absolutely delicious! The shrimp orzo was packed with flavour. We finished off with the baklava, which was the perfect ending to the meal: sweet, flaky, and just the right amount of richness. Highly recommend! Book in advance to avoid the queue

Restaurant
Apostolis is a charming restaurant tucked away from the bustling main road of the port in Naxos. Nestled at a junction of sidewalks and a courtyard-square shaded by a massive eucalyptus, it offers an inviting atmosphere with live music and tasteful decor. The restaurant's 'Apostolis' salad, served in a hollowed-out round loaf, puts a creative spin on the traditional Greek salad.
Make a reservation if you can, but if not, don’t let the wait turn you off, it’s so worth it!! The people, the food, the vibe.. all of it is outstanding. You won’t be disappointed, and you’ll want to come back. Thank you Apostolis for an amazing night.
Amanda S — Google review
We had an early reservation and watched as the place quickly filled around us. The lanterns above made for a beautiful atmosphere. Our server was attentive and helpful to several allergies in our party. Cocktails were delicious as was the food- the Aegean spritz and Greek salad were my favorites!
Kellie B — Google review
We accidently stumbled across this place strolling through the market. What a vibe. The hot bread they serve with the soup to her your taste buds going is a nice touch I had the pork chop and mum had the prawn pasta. Delicious. The highlight was the dessert ! Mille Fuelle wow

Last night, we dined at Apostolis restaurant in the charming old town of Chora. The courtyard seating, nestled among traditional homes, created a cozy and picturesque ambiance. Gas flame heaters and beautifully strung lights added warmth and charm, making it the perfect setting under the night sky. From the moment we sat down, the hospitality was exceptional. We were welcomed with complimentary bread, veggie soup and cheese, a delightful start to the meal. Our appetizer—lamb wrapped in phyllo—was rich and flavorful, setting the tone for the mains: fish with orzo and shrimp pasta, both cooked to perfection. Everything was paired wonderfully with their house wine, which complemented the dishes beautifully. To top it all off, they surprised us with dessert: a warm, flaky baklava served with ice cream. It was the perfect sweet ending to an unforgettable evening.
Jim F — Google review
My only regret is not coming hungrier! The dolmathakia were delicious. These ones came with meat in them, unlike many others. We also ordered the fish and a chickpea salad, both of which were excellent!

We made reservation for our dinner which was fantastic!!! The atmosphere had this Greek island magic , the food was amazing and so tasty, the service was very professional ... Definitely we will go again and again !!! At the end we had dessert " Pavlova" which was refreshing and a nice closer of our beautiful night ❣️
ANDRIANA A — Google review
Good: The fish fillet was grilled to perfection, with a buttery Orzo. Lovely little pumpkin soup & bread as a starter. Bad: As a solo dinner, I definitely felt the contempt from the staff. Seated in a corner at the end of establishment (near the store room), often ignored & whilst I appreciate it is always a busy time of day for service (I’ve worked in hospo and the dinner rush is a killer), I was definitely made to feel as just a “Visa card on legs”. I observed they often engaged in warm and friendly conversation with tables of 2 or more. Me? God forbid I got a smile. And before one gets attacked on the internet; I am polite, respectful (no I didn’t have a reservation and was happy to wait / told them to not worry and I’ll wait for table etc),and try my very best to speak Greek at all times. I’m in a different country, why not blend in? Tourist trap? Definitely. For solo diners? No.

Greek restaurant
Barozzi Naxos Restaurant is a farm-to-table dining spot in Naxos town, offering a fine-dining experience with a focus on Naxian cuisine and local ingredients. The menu, designed by acclaimed Greek chef Gikas Xenakis and executed by chef Kostas Votanos, has received the Aegean Cuisine certificate and various distinctions. Housed in a renovated 1930s building, the restaurant provides an upscale option for gourmet enthusiasts.
We had an amazing dinner here two years ago. We are still thinking about how delicious it all was! The naxian cheese and the slow roasted goat are still gems we remember fondly. We left feeling full after the menu we had. We felt the portions were generous. We hope to return soon and for the restaurant to be open for years to come. ❤️
Diana M — Google review
Probably the best meal we’ve had in Naxos. The quality of the food was fresh and unique, and even though some flavor pairings were hit or miss, the execution and the originality made it an interesting experience. The service was accommodating, fast, and kind. Island time is usually slow but Barozzi was prompt. The atmosphere is gorgeous and the resutarant was clean and classy.
Michelle W — Google review
What an amazing dining experience. We got the 5-course meal plus wine pairing with 6 wines and were thoroughly impressed. Each dish had some serious attention to detail and brought a new spin to some classics like a Greek salad. The highlight of the meal for us was the goat which was melt in your mouth good. We each got a different wine pairing too which I would recommend as it gave us around 10 different wines from across Greece to try. Don’t worry about the price, it’s all well worth it!
Kyle L — Google review
Not often you are wondering the streets of a foreign island looking for something to eat (nothing special, just local fresh food), and you come across a true hidden gem. The restaurant itself looks like an art gallery, very modern with an elegant touch, simply put a very pleasant place to be (regardless of the exquisite meal that’s coming ahead). The service was fenomenal. Gave us very good wine recommendations and were very accommodating with my nut allergy (I have been to places where the chef would not alter his/her creations and you would simply need to skip the dish). They only serve Greek products (from the bread, to the olive oil, to the wine and the raw materials that make every single dish), and I must say they surpassed all expectations. The wine menu (while only offering Greek options), was varied and quite original. We started with an Orange wine (refreshing and crisp - Kind of a mix between white and rose with a light citrus touch), and continued with a delicious Syrah (very flavourful - one glass was enough for the full meal, and kept the flavour pretty well). The food was extraordinary (top 10-15 I have had in the world). We went with the 7 course tasting menu, which was the best decision we could have possibly made. An image is worth a thousand words (so see a pic of each dish). The key highlight was how the chef was able to create an incredible “espuma” that accompanied several dishes, which was very light and at the same time incredibly tasty. A mix between foam and purée (I am calling it foamée). Surprisingly, the restaurant hasn’t been caught by the Michelin guide and is yet to be awarded at least 1 very well deserve star! It was a perfect unexpected experience which makes it even more memorable. Worth the trip to Naxos just to try this place. We will be back!
Felix R — Google review
While food look pretty. Most of the dishes has fundamental critical errors when eating. Makes a lot sense y why the restaurant was so empty on a Friday night. I sound like such a hater, but appearance cannot compensate for bad flavors. Spent $259+ after tip. Just spend that money on Elliniko, so much more worth it.
Eujin L — Google review
The service is excellent. The food were very creative and presentation was well done! We both enjoyed this fine dinning experience, appreciated the pace on the food delivery, as they always arrive at the right moment. We ordered 2 different 5-courses meal, they delivered 8 dishes to us(3desserts in total). Thank you so much!! It started with Amuse bouche (very tasty), We LOVE the Naxian Beef, Grilled Squid, Slow Roasted Goat (so soft!), they are all must try!!! The dessert was amazing, it brought a perfect ending to the meal. Wine was very very good as well. It definitely worth the money!
Wing L — Google review
Amazing dinner in Naxos! Everyone was extremely knowledgeable and helpful for dishes and wine pairings. Beautiful space and decor. Truly representative of the Naxos terroir and cuisine. One of the best meals we have had in Greece.

Housed in a former newspaper press at the base of one of Naxos' castles, Typografio boasts an inviting atmosphere and professional staff ready to assist.
A gem in the castle! Beautiful space, extensive menu with options for everyone, we got grilled chicken, pasta, octopus and a delicious yoghurt dessert, they were all top quality and generous portions. Staff were super friendly and made our night a delight!

Nice environment with trees (which should be shaken in order the old leaves not to fall on the plates if you sit below) The food was average compared to the other restaurants we tried and OVERPRICED. We ordered chicken ala crem and normal one which was burned on the outside as you can see in the photo. The quantity was okay. Wouldn't recommend to my peers unfortunately however I do appreciate the service which was fast and that the food was okay.
Αδέκαστος Μ — Google review
This place was suggested by our hotel owner and the car rental company as one of the best restaurants in town with a bit of fine dining cuisine. The restaurant is located in a really nice spot, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere really good. The food was presented nicely but the taste was not as expected. Due to our high expectations I gave 3 stars instead of 4.
Nikos S — Google review
The location is decent at the heart of the Chora with nice trees and tables scattered around. The service is fast and helpful. I cannot for the life of me believe the prices in the catalog but also the price to portion size or quality taste. Although this is subjective of course the dishes were nothing short of disappointing and the portions were small for the crazy inflated prices. I believe there are far better alternatives with the only redeeming quality here being the vibe of the location which does not transfer to all the available tables as some can be just against a wall.
ToNy P — Google review
We had a beautiful dinner at this place. Lamb with herbs and lemon sauce was amazing. Good service and super cozy environment.
Linnea O — Google review
We had been here seven years ago - and back then, it was amazing. This time, in July 2025, we were really disappointed. The place is nice - in the midst of Chora (with some tables offering a glimpse of the Sea or even a nice sunset). The service is very friendly. But the food was way better some years ago - we had quite standard food for a much too high price. Especially the fish we had was not worth the price. All the creativity which once marked the cooking seems to have been lost ... Or we ordered the wrong things ...
Alexander D — Google review
The location is fantastic, the service is friendly, and the staff are polite. However, the food portions are quite small and overpriced — understandable, given the central location. Unfortunately, the steak was undercooked and there was a mix-up with the side dishes, which only arrived after we had finished eating. While dining down at the port might not offer the same level of service or presentation, at least you leave feeling full and satisfied, without needing to search for a second meal.
Federico M — Google review
Slow service, cold food like saganaki and fish no taste. Long time waiting for food to arrive. No one asked if we liked our food or we need anything else. This place was suggested by our hotel owner as one of the best restaurants in town .The restaurant is located in a really nice spot, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere good. The food was presented nicely but the taste was not as expected.

Meltemi Restaurant is a long-standing family-run tavern in Naxos Town, serving up local meat, fish, and vegetable dishes with a passion for cooking. The friendly atmosphere and personalized service by the family members create a welcoming experience for visitors. With its traditional Greek menu featuring seafood dishes and other local specialties, Meltemi offers an authentic taste of Naxian cuisine. Guests have praised the restaurant's fresh and delicious food as well as the attentive and friendly staff.
Beautiful authentic Greek restaurant. We ordered half liter of their house white wine, the “Green” salad, shrimp orzo, baklava, and their orange pie with ice cream. All were delicious! The orange pie in my opinion was the better dessert option. The service was great and the basil plant on each table was a nice touch. If I were in Naxos longer I would eat here again!
Grace J — Google review
Had my final dinner on Naxos here right next to my hotel. Simply chose a dish with cooking paper wrapping some meat and potato to cook, some bread and half liter of wine. Over estimated myself as I still had to pack later the night, and I was a bit too tipsy to do it efficiently afterward. The dish tasted fine, and it was lovely seasoned to the spot.
Luke L — Google review
An excellent experience at Meltemi. The beet salad was superb. Eggplant fans, we had the special moussaka, baked in a ceramnic pot, and the kalogiros with veal, Naxian gruyere and bechamel on top. Try their own bottled Meltemi wine, an agiorgitiko, which was good at 20 euros for 750ml.
Ed M — Google review
Wonderful, authentic restaurant that offers lots of different traditional dishes. Prompt and friendly service, and we loved the ambience on the outdoor terrace. The orange cake for dessert is incredible!
Nicole M — Google review
During our first dinner there I had the stuffed tomatoes with rice and spices with potatoes appetizer for my main meal and a tomato and cucumber salad with olives capers and red onions. It was quite good. They had a few other vegan options on the menu including a roasted vegetable dish(Briam), roasted eggplants and many salads. However, I gave 3 stars instead of 4 because tonight we got take away since my husband was sick and ordered the green salad, which was great, ( should have gotten two) and the rocket Parmesan salad and when we got home the "rocket Parmesan salad" was boiled unseasoned greens" . I assume the put the wrong order in the bag as it was supposed to contain lettuce, Parmesan, sundried tomatoes, croutons, olives, capers, and balsamic. So perhaps just check your container before leaving. Too bad as it sounded good 🫤.
