Ludwigsburg

Ludwigsburg is a city just north of Stuttgart, in southwest Germany. The baroque Ludwigsburg Residential Palace houses ceramics and fashion museums. Its landscaped gardens are known as “Blooming Baroque.” Surrounded by woodland, the 18th-century Ludwigsburg Favorite Palace, once Duke Eberhard Ludwig’s summer residence, has neoclassical interiors. Northwest, Monrepos Lakeside Palace was a hunting lodge of the Duke.

The Ludwigsburg Residential Palace, often referred to as the Versailles of Swabia, is a magnificent Baroque residence that encompasses children's, fashion, and ceramics museums within its opulent walls. Constructed in the early 18th century by Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Wurttemberg, this colossal architectural marvel spans over 452,000 square feet and houses 452 rooms.
Really nice palace, with fairy tail park for children. It’s so big place you need almost 3hours to go through all place. They offer small train for baby, also small boats go through small river. Children must love all activities there.
Denisa P — Google review
Personally, I think this palace is an average place to visit in Stuttgart unless you have the time and haven’t been to any large palaces in Europe, especially in Italy or France. However, it’s an ideal spot for photography because it’s not crowded with tourists. The English tour is only offered once a day, so check the official website for the date and time. The ticket is quite affordable, and the tour lasts about an hour. I opted for the “Duke” tour, which showcased around 10-15 rooms (although the palace has 452 rooms). To be honest, I’ve seen better palaces. So, I would recommend simply going to the garden and taking a leisurely walk in the pleasant weather. Many of the hallways were simply decorated with paintings, and most of the rooms were not particularly impressive. I didn’t even bother taking pictures. The church was interesting, but I couldn’t get inside during the tour. The history section was interesting, as it provided insight into the noble family that ruled over this region. From an art and architecture perspective, I would suggest taking pictures of the palace’s exterior would be enough.

We went for the annual pumpkin festival and had an amazing time. The children enjoyed the views and the artistry and adventure were worth the cost. Great time.
Jessica B — Google review
I was here for the pumpkin festival and it was great. The palace gardens are big and you need a lot of time to stroll though them. They also have a fairytale forest, with lots of small houses retelling German fairytales, which is especially nice for kids.
Denny F — Google review
Be aware: 1) visit to the palace only with guide. Minimum 1h 2) tickets to the garden and the visit to the palace are separated. And honestly the garden is beautiful but not worth the 14 euros you pay to see the same thing you can see from a little bit far from the entrance of the garden!
Rodolfo S — Google review
This was a beautiful experience. There are ENGLISH speaking tours, despite what another said in a review. Just ask the front what time the English tour starts. It was quite confusing trying to find the front door for the inside tour. Google maps took me to a side parking lot, directly in front of the building, but the entramce only sold tickets for the garden tour at 28€ per person. The garden tickets are much more than the palace tour tickets. We thought we bought tickets for the tour of the palace and grounds, but the tickets were only for the palace gardens. After walking around for a while in the front of the building and trying to find the palace entrance, we ended up at an exit where a kind staff member offered us a stamp and gave directions. Our tour guide was enthusiastic and full of information. He could answer any question thrown at him! I loved our guide's charisma and humor. The garden is great for children with a fairy garden in the back. The groups for the interior tour were not too large, so you could always hear the guide. The rooms of the palace are spectacular and full of history. I ended up doing a tour in the native tongue since I was on a drive back to my home and did not have time to wait for the English tour. I used the translate app on my phone and the guide filled me and my partner in occasionally to ensure we were up to speed. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. Just be mindful of the parking and palace entrance if your goal is not to visit the gardens, although they are beautiful.
Vanessa F — Google review
One of the more magnificent castles I've visited in Europe! Though it's size is not enormous (rightfully so due to its history) it was wonderfully preserved and the guided tours are 100% worth the price and time. Our guides wrtr lovely and answered everyone's questions. We saw plenty of people taking their wedding photos on site, plenty of families and there were accessible bathrooms across the grounds. Truly worth the trip!!
Moriah — Google review
I liked the palace. Beautiful halls, very chic interior. True, the tour was only in German and there was no alternative. I also visited the ceramics museum. A good collection.

Sights & Landmarks
Schloss Favorite in Ludwigsburg is an 18th-century Baroque summer palace with neoclassical interiors, surrounded by expansive parkland. Originally designed as a hunting castle, it now stands as a small country villa offering access to the surrounding countryside. Just a short walk from Residenzschloss, this delicate Rococo palace provides insight into the leisurely pursuits of the nobility. The palace has been transformed into a museum showcasing stunning artwork, furnishings, and architecture.
A luxurious symmetrical building in the Baroque style. Incredibly beautiful. There is also a gorgeous park here, many animals that sometimes come into contact with people
Ancestral S — Google review
The Favorite palace was a really nice place to visit. We couldn't go inside as it was closed but from outside it was beautiful. The surrounding garden was well maintained and had a variety of plants. The building is painted in yellow and on a sunny day, it looks absolutely remarkable.
Piuli C — Google review
An astonishing place. The castle is very beautiful with vibrant colors. The park is huge and you spend an entire day chilling in the nature. There are also surprises with some friendly visitor's.

A beautiful and vibrant castle surrounded by woods and nature. Quiet and peaceful environment. Entrance into the park compound is free. Cycling is not permitted on weekends and public holidays.

Schloss Favorite is a hidden gem in Ludwigsburg! This elegant Baroque summer palace, surrounded by a peaceful park, offers a glimpse into the grandeur of 18th-century court life. The neoclassical interiors are beautifully preserved, and the symmetry of the architecture is stunning. The surrounding Favoritepark is perfect for a relaxing stroll, with well-maintained gardens and occasional wildlife sightings. While the palace itself is not always open, the exterior alone is worth the visit, especially on a sunny day when its yellow façade glows beautifully.
Laurence H — Google review
An interesting hunting lodge in a small deer park. The deer are tame enough to be hand fed on apples but given the size of their antlers I wouldn’t recommend it! The Favorite Castle is pretty but you can’t go inside. There’s a nice view of the Residence Castle from the balcony. Free entry to the park 😃
Rog E — Google review
Beautiful little castle surrounded by a huge park where wildlife is roaming around. Right across the big palace.

Such a cool experience to be able to go here, loved the interactive bits but the story telling could’ve been done better for Ferdinand Porsche’s life. Coming from my time in the Mercedes Benz museum down the road which did their story telling impeccably. Definitely go here though, would highly reccommend if you like looking at high horsepower monsters and multi million euro cars!
Paul M — Google review
Visiting this place is a must if you appreciate automobiles and the culture surrounding them. Although it is located a bit outside the city's heart, the experience is worth the travel. Be prepared for a potentially bustling atmosphere, as many people share your interest. To avoid queues and ensure entry, consider purchasing your tickets ahead of your visit. Enjoy the impressive assortment of Porsches on display for you to admire.
Jey A — Google review
Car enthusiasts will love it. The museum will give you a diving in the history of Germany and automobiles. The visit starts at the visitor center going up to the 8th floor down. There’s parking on the streets nearby and some parking nearby the museum. Parking garage is also available nearby. Tickets may be bought online or in person. It is kids friendly and wheelchair accessible. There’s a souvenir store, a restaurant and more downstairs from the visitor center.

The Porsche Museum in Stuttgart is an absolute must-see for car lovers. The exhibits are beautifully presented, the design is stunning, and the history behind each model is captivating. Everything feels premium and well curated, making it a memorable and inspiring visit. Highly recommended!
Thibeau D — Google review
As someone who has always loved cars, visiting the Porsche Museum felt like a special moment. The building itself is modern and the way the museum is set up makes it easy to just wander and enjoy. What I liked most was how the museum tells the story of Porsche over time. You start with the early cars and move forward through the different generations. Seeing the evolution of the 911 up close was a highlight for me. You really understand how the shape and feel of the car stayed consistent while everything inside it kept improving. I spent around two hours there and didn’t feel rushed at all. Overall, the museum felt inspiring, relaxed and genuine. If you love cars, it’s definitely worth visiting.
A. K — Google review
A must see for Porsche fans, the museum building is beautifully designed, car collection is nice with rare and iconic models. There are many interactive games for children however the simulator video game not worth the 15-20 min wait (visiting on saturday AM). Other than that nice museum helpful staff, recommended!
Pál B — Google review
This is a very nice museum. Lots of Porsche history is shown, special versions and good explanations via a mobile device with headset. I must admit that i only used it at the beginning, because some explanations are giving allot of info.you can also walk by and read the text.
René V — Google review
Amazing place for petrol heads. Come early to get a good parking spot. Love that kids have a reduced ticket. All the cars displayed are beautiful and showcase how time has affected change in the newer builds. The whole museum can be covered in 2-4 hours. Depending on the level of time you have at hand. The interactive race was what my son enjoyed the most. But a pic with Sally is a must. I should warn you, the gift shop is where you will spend a lot of money. There is a lot that you will like there so better come prepared.

Garden
The Blühendes Barock Gartenschau Ludwigsburg, also known as Ludwigsburg Palace Gardens, is a breathtaking 30-hectare garden surrounding the palace on three sides. The gardens feature themed plantings, beautiful flowers, and picturesque fountains. With 452 rooms in 18 buildings, it's one of Europe's largest original Baroque complexes. Visitors can enjoy various themed exhibitions such as the Pumpkin Exhibition and Sand Sculptures throughout the year.
We paid 14 euro per person(adult). The place was huge and there was many playgrounds and attractions for kids. Literally here's a heaven for children. It roughly takes 2-3 hours to look all around. Highly recommend👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
MALGEUM K — Google review
We spent a lovely afternoon at Blühendes Barock Gartenschau in Ludwigsburg and it honestly felt like a little hidden gem. Entry was 14€ per adult and it was absolutely worth it. The place is huge and beautifully maintained, with stunning trees, birds, flamingos, and even storks wandering around. There were also impressive sand sculptures scattered throughout, which made the whole walk even more interesting. For families, this place is a dream. So many playgrounds and kid-friendly attractions — it's basically heaven for children. The fairytale walk through the garden was magical and so thoughtfully done. It takes about 2 to 3 hours to explore everything at a relaxed pace. There are clean toilets, a restaurant, and plenty of space to sit and take it all in. Highly recommend if you're in the area. We’ll definitely be back!
I. F — Google review
These gardens form a big part of the Residenzschloss estate and make a delightful walk. There is something for everyone, with areas set aside for young children to enjoy and their siblings and parents to relax. It's not cheap, but we had a great afternoon.
David H — Google review
Beautiful grounds and the pumpkin festival was stunning! So many fun exhibits to check out. You can easily spend the whole day here. I highly recommend buying your tickets online, we did and were able to skip the two long lines when we arrived. The grounds are so big it doesn’t feel crowded even on a full day.
Spencer V — Google review
A beautiful palace with a wonderful atmosphere! 🎃 We visited during the annual pumpkin exhibition, and it was both fascinating and educational. The grounds are full of food courts where you can try all kinds of creative pumpkin dishes — we especially loved the candied pumpkin seeds! The only downside is that the entrance and food prices are a bit on the expensive side, but overall it’s definitely worth a visit🧡
Victoriia K — Google review
A must see if you are in town. Between the castle and the garden you can spend the whole day. The museum is a time machine. Do visit!

A stunning place that feels like stepping into another era. The architecture, the gardens, and the sheer scale of it all are breathtaking. The Ludwigsburg Museum im MIK is a must-visit for those intrigued by the history and culture of Ludwigsburg. The museum showcases various aspects of the city's past, portraying it as an industrial center, royal residence, garrison, art hub, and residential town. It houses a rich collection of artifacts and graphics depicting the city's evolution and its role in significant inventions like Aspirin.

(Translated by Google) Wonderful, the lady at reception was very friendly and very helpful. Another lady gave us a short tour and just like that. Children don't bother us here at all, even if they get louder, not even a dirty look, which is very rare these days. The "LUFFT" exhibition was really very successful, not too much and not too little, all four children of different ages (5-11) were enthusiastic and happily occupied for an hour. It was also very interesting for us adults. The Ludwigsburg Museum is always worth a visit.

AVOID THIS PLACE ITS SUPER DANGEROUS in this period if Covid19! Nobody in the staff is wearing a mask, the distances are not respected, the cook is in street clothes and shouting so loud over the food for customers to pick up their food with no protection !!! Its a disaster!!! This place should be inspected by health authorities and closed until they really change things and start respecting the obvious health and security mesures!

Schlosshotel Monrepos is an elegant hotel offering free WiFi, a golf course, and a spa. The sophisticated restaurant features tasteful modern interior design within the historical 150-year-old Monrepos estate. Guests can dine on seasonally influenced cuisine served as a set menu or à la carte, with a vegetarian option available. The hotel's idyllic location provides a delightful terrace under the shade of chestnut trees.
A modern building with top quality design and finishing. Rooms are neat, with generous layout, brand new equipment and comfy beds. The service at the reception is very friendly. Located in the castle grounds it makes for a nice place to relax and go for walks. It’s relative close location to Stuttgart makes for a good alternative to more expensive hotels there.

The Hotel is nicely located near that castle and close to the lake. My room was spacious and clean. My only and major criticism is that the walls seem to be paper-thin. Myself as well as several of my colleagues slept rather bad because the noise level was high.
Frederik S — Google review
The hotel offers a nice view and atmosphere. However, they do not inform you of any ongoing events such as wedding celebrations. They also allocate rooms of guests attending such a celebration next to regular hotel guests which leads to being woken up at 1 am by drunk people returning from the party. Since it is not a rare occurrence for these events to take place (especially in the spring and summer), it can be expected that the hotel management has the courtesy to inform their guests of an ongoing event and should exhibit the ability to allocate quiet rooms to the guests that are not part of such an event. This should happen without the guests having to request such an action.

German restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Ludwigsburg, Württemberger Hof offers a delightful dining experience that beautifully blends tradition with modern flair. This stylish Swabian restaurant boasts high ceilings and an elegant terrace, making it a perfect spot for enjoying exquisite wild game dishes sourced from their own hunts. Guests can indulge in a variety of German and European cuisine, all crafted to elevate your culinary journey. While the prices may lean towards the higher side, generous portions ensure you leave satisfied.
We organised a family event for around 15 people here, and a baby. We got a private room and a big table for our party. The dishes were excellent (German/Swabian cuisine) and the portions were quite big (the restaurant packed leftovers for a few guests; I personally ate everything and loved both the quality and quantity of the food). We had a salad, a soup, a main dish among 3 choices, and a dessert. We will most definetely come back to eat there. The service was fantastic, the waiters were very organised. We had a meeting with the manager a month before our event to define the menu (we even got to personalise some dishes) and the seating plan. We gave the staff individual named gifts for the guests and the staff placed them on the table according to a seating plan that we provided. The manager spontaneously suggested we translate the menus in our mothertongue for the guests. The whole staff paid great attention to detail before and during our event and we couldn't be more thankful. I also wanted to point out that this is an ideal location to host events with a baby: the staff brought toys for a baby guest and being in a closed room allowed the parents to have piece of mind when the baby was roaming around. Every single detail worked out perfectly and we are very happy that we chose Württemberger Hof for our event.
