Konya is a city south of Ankara in Turkey’s Central Anatolia region. Museum
Historical landmark
The Mevlana Museum, also known as the Mausoleum of Rumi, is a significant tourist attraction in Konya. It houses the tomb of the revered Sufi mystic Rumi and features a museum displaying various artifacts from his life and era. Visitors can explore ancient manuscripts, hand-written copies of the Quran, musical instruments from Rumi's time, and art pieces dating back to the Seljuk era.
Unfortunately, the museum was closed when I visited, but even from the outside it was absolutely worth it. The turquoise dome, the Seljuk-Ottoman design, and the calm atmosphere around the place are breathtaking. You can really feel the spiritual energy here, and just sitting outside was peaceful. A must-visit in Konya and 5 stars without a doubt!

One of the high point of my trip to Turkey. Honoring the Sufi religion and Rumi at the Mevlana Museum and Mosque. Cleansing in the water of life after visiting Rumi's burial site. The Mevlana Jalaluddin-i Rumi Mosque is magnificent. Sufism is a mystic body of religious practice found within Islam which is characterized by a focus on Islamic purification, spirituality, ritualism. Although Sufis were opposed to dry legalism, they strictly observed Islamic law and belonged to various schools of Islamic jurisprudence and theology. A day never to be forgotten .
Betsy Y — Google review
One of Turkey’s most iconic and spiritual sites. This is the resting place of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi, the famous Sufi poet and mystic. The museum preserves manuscripts, ceremonial garments and artifacts from the Whirling Dervishes, while the turquoise conical dome makes the building instantly recognizable. A deeply meaningful and historic place absolutely worth a visit.
Patrizia P — Google review
Here lies one of the biggest inspirational poets of all time whose thoughts have enlightened the many souls. The museum is inside the complex, which houses Rumi's tomb. You get to learn about the life of disciples during the life of Rumi and the way things worked in 13th century.
Reza N — Google review
This place is a huge deal for those who have enjoyed Rumi’s poems and deep thoughts at least once. It is free and no need to buy tickets. It is divided into doors (babs) and separate parts to roam around like the main museum, tombs, and poems and photos. No recording with flash but normal one is ok. Those who know persian can also read the scripts and poems that are everywhere. The garden part is also enjoyable for sitting or drinking coffee.
Nesa M — Google review
Beautiful museum where Rumi taught his views and received his mentor Shams. The museum holds Rumi's tomb and the history of Mevlevi Order. Do not get intimidated by the massive amount of people there. If you read Rumi and follow him, whatever your religion is, find a place to sit near his tomb, close your eyes and meditate.
Juliana G — Google review
Beautiful! Great place to learn about Rumi and the Sufi religion. It was pretty crowded, but you could move through at your own pace. Great place for people interested in history.

The Konya Archeological Museum is a must-visit attraction in Konya, drawing visitors from around the world with its fascinating exhibits that showcase the country's significant history. The museum features artifacts dating back to prehistoric and BC ages, as well as exhibits from the Middle Ages and unique art artifacts.
I've been to some of the biggest archeological museums in the world, and this little museum has a more impressing collection than some of them. The Hercules Sarcophagus is worth a visit all by its self. Oh and it's free
Mica S — Google review
Wonderful museum! Not too big but they have really interesting items I've never seen before. There could be a bit more explanation in English but if you're interested in history and ancient things you should definitely not miss it. Also, it's free! (Keep in mind that they don't have a toilet.)
Suzie P — Google review
Small, amazing, super fascinating old museum with extraordinary relics from Greek-Roman times and especially from the nearby Neolithic towns. To be visited! It’s free!
Enriko T — Google review
Such a nice museum to visit and it’s totally free. Felt in love with the frontyard and the ruins especially the one for poseidon. It is central and easy to eccess.
Nesa M — Google review
Small museum with great exhibits, specially the sarcophagus. The Hercules Sarcophagus describing the 12 works that Hercules did is incredible. You can see also different styles (for example if it has columns in the corners of the sarcophagus). There is not much infornation on some of the exhibits though. Free entry.
JR S — Google review
Worth the time to wander and see study what this little 💎 of a museum (free entry btw!) has to offer—some 9000 years of history! The 12 deeds of Heracles sarcophagus is gorgeous as well as the collection of lion sculptures outside and some of the Catalhoyuk finds as well!
Heather S — Google review
It's a small but free archaeological museum that is worth visiting. It contains exhibits from local prehistoric settlements and Roman Empire. I was surprised to see a Sarcophagus of Heraclees here.

The Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden is a captivating destination featuring exotic plants, butterflies, and an insect museum. Situated adjacent to the Selcuklu Flower Garden and the Adventure Tower, this expansive urban park boasts a butterfly-shaped building with a glass roof covering 7,600 square meters.
When you enter, hundreds of butterflies silently greet you by clapping their hands. The humid and warm atmosphere, adorned with tropical plants, embraces you with all its presence. As you travel in this unique world, butterflies fly around you like moths, if one lands on your outstretched finger, our happiness will pass through the glass and reach the sky. I hope you will see it if you go to Konya in the spring.
Ali P — Google review
The Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden is straight-up like walking into a living watercolor painting. The second you step inside, you’re hit with warm, earthy air, layers of green everywhere, and butterflies just casually floating past like they own the place. It’s humid (like South Asian Summer humid), so definitely dress light and bring water, your skin will glow like never before in what feels like a tropical escape right in the middle of Konya. The glass dome itself? Stunning. It lets in soft natural light that bounces off vibrant wings and tropical leaves, perfect for photos but also just super calming to look at. They’ve recreated a whole ecosystem inside, with 40+ butterfly species from across the world flying freely around you. If you stand still long enough, one might even land on you! I literally held my breath hoping it would but that didn’t happen, one did land on my friend though! What I loved most is how clean and thoughtfully designed everything is. You don’t just walk through and take pictures , there are signs explaining butterfly lifecycles, and you can actually see some emerging from cocoons. It’s peaceful, quiet, and kind of magical. Whether you’re going with friends, solo, or on a soft-date vibe, it’s 100% worth the visit. Staff are friendly, tickets are affordable, and the whole experience is unforgettable.

You MUST go to this place. You will see a lot of beautiful flowers, very many different types and vibrant colourful butterflies. The entry fee is cheep too. Inside is a little bit humid and hot but shouldn't bother you too much. I absolutely loved it.
RealLord P — Google review
The tropical butterfly garden is great place to visit with your children. You need at least 45 to 60 minutes to make sure your child can read and learn about butterflies and other bugs. They ask you if you want a photo at the entrance but finally they sell it to you, they should have told us that it wasn't free.

Alaaddin Hill Park in Konya is a serene and historic site, offering a perfect spot for picnics with its walking paths, benches, gardens, and trees. The park was built by the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat and now serves as a peaceful green space in the heart of the city. Visitors can explore the Alaaddin Mosque and remnants of an old palace while enjoying the lush surroundings.
This is a very calm and green park a little to the north from downtown Konya. The place is not very crowded in the early hours of the afternoon and you can stroll along the green paths, as well as to get to know the examples of Seljuk architecture, like a mosque and what remain of a palace in the park.
Reza N — Google review
The park is at the centre of the Konya. 10-20 yrs old people hang up here. Many couples and students play! Alaaddin mosque is elegant and beautiful! You should visit here! Love the atmosphere and energy of this park

A hill and a park to enjoy view when there is no renovation around as barriers block the view. There are many spots to rest, take photo, places and buildings to enjoy their architecture especially the mosque, and the famous water fountain. Kafem brand belongs to the municipality where serves moderate prices items.

A peaceful park in Konya, its a good place to just chill. The park is clean, there are trash bins almost every corner, and because its uphill and there are trees, the ambience is cool.

Karatay Madrasa, built in 1251 by Emir Celaleddin Karatay, is a significant monument of the Anatolian Seljuk era. It has been transformed into a museum showcasing exquisite tile art and archaeological artifacts. Originally serving as a school, it was funded by nobles and the Wakf for free education until its abolition in 1924.
Great museum about Seljuks. It was really inspiring to see the Shamanic and Persian influence on the most important pre-Ottoman Anatolian Turks, through the artistic tiles of the 13th centuries exhibited in the museum.
Dogan S — Google review
💎 this madrasa ended up being my favorite place in Konya (love Konya in general!). The colors and beauty of the tiled dome space really touched me—the city of Konya did a great service to humanity restoring this old place of knowledge.
Heather S — Google review
Very nice place, very friendly people, we were expressed with the show and the exhibition.

Small museum but packed with lots of history, stone markings and tiles master pieces. Love the interior of the museum.
Hassan G — Google review
An amazing madrasa showcasing ancient tiles in an atmospheric location. The interior of the madrasa still has many of the original tiles. Also 800 year old fragments from Konya castle.
Will D — Google review
It is a good example of Seljuk architecture and a center of Seljuk science. It is a beautiful work that has mostly survived with its dome, interiors and decorations. During its active period, it was at the forefront of teaching astronomy and similar scientific courses. It is a beautiful madrasah that should be seen in Konya, I recommend it.
Hamza D — Google review
Beautiful museum in an old madrasa. The tile work in the building is amazing. There are some displays with artefacts, especially Selçuk tiles. Touristic admission was 60tl in December 2024
N M — Google review
It was an okay place to visit. It is a shrine and a tomb for historical religious figures and there are some artifacts around the place. I especially liked the carving on the outside of the main door as well as the inside of the dome. Other than that is it pretty cheap ( i think 20 liras) and i was alone there.

Sultan Somati & The Table of Sultan is a fine dining restaurant in Selcuklu, Konya that offers a rich and traditional Turkish culinary experience. The restaurant prides itself on its attentive staff and clear vegetarian and vegan menu options. Guests can enjoy unique dishes flavored with taste that leave a lasting impression. The restaurant also offers a symbolic touch to some of its servings, providing a memorable and personal dining experience for each guest.
We enjoyed the most delicious local cuisine at a very reasonable price! The lamb was some of the best we’ve had anywhere. The green salad with mint and rose petals? Superb. Read the background on the cheese they serve-it’s a delicacy! Fantastic. Atmosphere very pleasant. Service with a smile-very friendly staff! 😃 If we were in town longer, we’d come again!

I’m from Germany and happened to come across this restaurant by chance. I was immediately impressed by the atmosphere. The service from every staff member was incredible, and the dishes were explained along with their background stories. Most importantly, the food itself was absolutely delicious. I can definitely recommend this restaurant.

The food was incredible. I had the cheese pastry, the tirit, and their baklava with ice crwam. It was the best baklava i have ever had! Also, our waiter was very polite and informative about all of the history of the meals. It wasn't just a meal it was an entire experience! I highly recommend it!
Beth K — Google review
This was the first time I went out to eat alone. I had a really tough day and normally I wouldn’t choose to eat out by myself, but due to circumstances, that’s how it turned out. I was looking for a place with vegan options, and this restaurant had them—which made me very happy. On top of that, the food was delicious, the staff was friendly, the music was soothing, and the atmosphere was wonderful. Before I left, the staff gave me a gift that truly touched me: a candle with the words, “Being a candle is not easy; to spread light, you must first burn.” That was exactly what I needed to hear. Because of this experience, I will do more things on my own from now on. Thank you for that.

This is the place to eat in Konya, there are many places, but here, the service is amazing, you even have a small history lesson about the food. The food, oh the food, I had lentil Soup and my family had a mixture of Hydari, Hummus for starters. Delicious. My main course was so well presented, tasty and wholesome, I could have ate it again and again. Don’t miss out it’s a very short walk from the mosque and you will not regret it. Enjoy!
Peter B — Google review
Firstly, the food was so tasty and enjoyable. The menu has many options but without being overwhelming, we tried a few side dishes and a main meal which were perfect portion sizes. The service was exceptional, we felt very well looked after and every dish was explained to us. The decor of the restaurant is really homely and pleasant (with very comfortable seats we found). A wonderful experience all in all!

Restaurant
Mithat Tirit is a cozy cafe tucked away on a quiet side street in Konya, serving up delicious tirit since 1988. The signature dish is made by layering stale pita bread soaked in buttery goodness with flavorful meat and topped with creamy yogurt. Despite being slightly pricey, the tirit is described as an explosion of flavors that's well worth the cost. Visitors rave about the exceptional service and recommend trying out this local specialty when in Konya.
If you‘re visitig Konya you have to visit this Restaurant Mithat!!! If you have to wait for a table, just wait it’s realy worth!! The taste of this meal is from another dimension. The serve just one meal, but the cooked it to perfection. Is a local food you can find it only in Konya. It’s simmilar to Iskender but from my opinion much much better. On the picure it looks oily but it isn’t, its just the slow cooked broth. Protip: When you mix the broth with the jogurt underneath, the cutted bread soaks it up and then you eat it with the freshly grilled meat, next level. Also the dessert Zerde was very delicious. It like a rice dish with curcuma, cinnamon and nuts on the top. Also the serving personal was realy friendly. So we visited this reataurant twice, we couldn’t leave konya without eating a second portion of this masterpiece. We come back again, inşallah. Best regards from Switzerland Michel and Sinem Steiger

We were walking past this little alley when we noticed a buzzing restaurant packed with locals. Knowing this is always a good sign we decided to check it out for dinner. The specialty here is Tirit, and at 500 TL a plate, it’s definitely the star of the show. The dish came out sizzling and juicy with tender meat piled over pieces of bread that were soaking in what tasted like a rich, yogurt-based broth. It was absolutely delicious, flavorful, and totally unique. We liked it so much we tried to order another round, but something got lost in translation, and sadly it never came… then we found out they’d completely sold out! Hot tip: get there early! By around 5:45pm, they had run out of Tirit. It’s clearly a local favorite for a reason. .
Dame R — Google review
Tirit is mazing food! The combination of tastes party in your mouth. By far my most favorite dish in Konya. And this place does it right. Followed by Zerde which was also to perfection. A bit pricey but worth every penny. Highly recommend!
Peyman B — Google review
It was really crowded even though we were there afternoon in a weekday. We had to wait 15-20 minutes to get a table and then again for food. The food was good. It was tasty. The dessert was awesome tho, you should really give it a try.
Merve K — Google review
This is a local restaurant that has become something of an icon in recent years. They serve only one dish (tirit) and they do it to perfection. Tirit is a unique specialty from Konya, and you won’t easily find it outside this city. Portions are generous, and while the price is slightly inflated for Konya, it’s still reasonable, especially for tourists. What else can I say? It’s a classic. If you’re in Konya, this is one of those places you simply have to try.
Alperen T — Google review
A cozy place that offers tasty tirit to enjoy. A local dish of red meat, veggies, yogurt, and pide bread pieces cooked together in an earthen casserole. They have outdoor sitting as well as indoor one and a big salon with A.C on a lower ground. The staff are really kind and helpful. The location is also easy to reach as it is close to mevlana square and museum.

Great experience, great food and honest waiting staff. Located very close to the Muqam of Mevlana Rumi. The Tirit was recommended by friends, and hit the spot. Very tasty. Make sure to ask for extra bread.

The place is renowned for its exclusive dish, Tandir Kebap, prepared with specially cooked lamb that has been a local favorite since 1907. This charming restaurant provides quick and friendly service along with an authentic ambiance featuring a traditional oven.

There’s only one item on the menu: lamb kebabs. The lamb is very tender and juicy, and pairs well with the sides they provide. We were able to enjoy a hearty meal here! Bonus for travelers: the bathrooms are quite clean, so if you’re passing through, I would consider this a bonus as well. The portions are a bit smaller so I would recommend the 150g option for those who are hungry.
Alyssa — Google review
I must say that for over half a century, I have known this place physically; they have changed locations, but I have visited it many times over the last 20 years. They mastered how to cook lamb unlike any other. Their secret is using the lamb from the central Turkiye, where the taste is superb. I had lunch again, including meat, but it was perfect as usual. They had raw onions served on the side, but it was bitter. I told them they could search for a sweet onion if they wanted. A young man who is one-third my age began to lecture me that they can not taste each onion to see which one is sweet and which is not. I smiled and walked. If this young man is from the family, this establishment may decline. I hope not.

As of June of 2023, still the same delicious furun kebab, but costs 150YTL per 100 grams of pure tasty meat -- that's about $6.50 for 3.5oz. Don't forget to enjoy the complimentary dark red Turkish tea.
Bulent B — Google review
This place was recommended to by some locals as a great place to give fırın kebabı a try. The meat is incredibly tender. The only issue with this is that Fırın kebabı isn't really all that good. The main thing that people brag about when they talk about Fırın kebabı is how pure it is, as in they add nothing to it. Personally, that seems like a bad thing. Meat should be spiced, and a little more complexity would be welcome. But this being a traditional dish, you've got to stick to tradition and this restaurant is a great place to give this traditional dish a try. Prices for this dish are steep everywhere, so be warned.

Somatçı Fihi Ma Fih Restaurant, located in the Karatay district of Konya, is a family-style eatery known for its traditional Mediterranean dishes. The restaurant offers a cozy setting with a courtyard and serves as an ideal spot for those seeking something beyond the usual pides and kebabs. Chef Ulas Tekerkama, a celebrated figure, has even authored a book on ancient Turkish cuisine recipes.
Wonderful restaurant, good food, great service and hospitality and tasteful atmosphere. I've had two traditional dishes that I've enjoyed very much and was treated to some snacks on the house. It was not only a culinary experience but a cultural one as well. The price tag is above your average locanta but that is to be expected, this is a very well put together restaurant that offers more than food but an experience.

This is a nice place tucked in the middle of Old Town Konya. We went here after following a blog post about the restaurant. They serve Ottoman cuisine, Selcuk cuisine, Dervish cuisime, and many other dishes. I ordered Lamb Mutancan, where they cook the lamb with onions, honey, spices, dried apricots, dried figs, dried grapes. It's truly a good experience. On top of that, we find the food are reasonably priced.

BEST RESTAURANT IN KONYA. GO TO KONYA JUST FOR THIS RESTAURANT. IF YOU GO TO KONYA AND NOT TO THIS RESTAURANT, YOU HAVE WASTED YOUR TRIP. PERFECT AMBIENCE, EXQUISITE FOOD AND WONDERFUL SERVICE. Our server was Batuhan, a wonderful fellow. He arranged a tasting menu for us at the last minute. Very thankful to him. Also try the AYVALI ET, it is the specialty and for good reason. It's delectable melt in your mouth beef paired with the delicate flavour of quince will astound you. It's truly life changing. I want to go back to konya only to have the ayvali et again.

Came here for dinner during our visit to Konya and was not disappointed. Our server organised and priced a 'tasting menu' for us. All the dishes we had were delicious and prices were reasonable. There is a lot of food and the serving sizes are fairly generous (as seen in the photos). Menus are available in English if required. Staff were professional and food was quick to arrive. Would recommend a visit if you are in Konya and are wanting to try some authentic food in Turkiye.

Heavenly was the food, the hospitality and ambiance of the restaurant. The owner was amazing and staff very very friendly. They treated us as house guests. The food was delish and finger licking. The owner had done extensive research on the Trukish traditions and Mevlana influence on the food. The food was served in accordance with her research with honey water. Pay attention on the dessert plate with “whirling devishes” icing. Blessings and wishes on your success from a New Jersey food lover..❤️❤️❤️

Very tasty food + we were lucky to be waited by a nice person who, even if he didn’t speak English made every effort to explain and help. We loved the atmosphere as well. Looks like this place was a stop/inn for travelers back in the day. Only thing was the air conditioning being off when temperatures were on the high end.

Lokmahane is a hidden gem nestled in a picturesque area of Konya, in close proximity to the revered tomb of Mevlana. The moment we stepped through the doors, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming smile from the owner. Despite the language barrier, the owner went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable, answering any questions we had and graciously making recommendations for dishes to try. The interior of Lokmahane is beautifully designed, with jars of pickles and art adorning the walls, creating a cozy and inviting ambiance. The standout dish for us was the lamb Tirit with yoghurt. The flavors were rich and succulent, with the yoghurt adding a tangy contrast that elevated the dish to new heights. We were referred to Lokmahane by the Araf hotel where we were staying and we couldn't be more grateful for the recommendation. The restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. Not only the food was delicious but also the care for Konya’s traditional food and culture are reflected in every aspect of the restaurant, making it a perfect place to have a memorable dining experience. We highly recommend Lokmahane to anyone visiting Konya, as it truly is a culinary destination not to be missed.

It is located in a nice place. The staff were really friendly. Everything was clean and tidy. A large group of tourists were dining while we were having breakfast. I definitely recommend them.
