The Móra Ferenc Museum is a neoclassical institution that showcases natural history, ethnology, seasonal displays and a collection of gold artifacts. Recently hosting an exhibition on dinosaurs, the museum features interactive robotic creatures emitting sounds and even has a playground for children. The other collections are also well-presented. However, there is room for improvement regarding their souvenir shop which mainly stocks children's books in Hungarian.
We came to the museum when Teracota warriors were there. It was amazing to see them and the whole chinese exhibition. It was amazing and we loved it. We bought a ticket to climb to the roof and that was also a very good move. The view from upthere is amazing. We bought a few small terracota wariors in the souvenir shop and went through other exhibition in the museum.
Maja B — Google review
The museum is classic and varied in exhibitions! It's a suitable place to see displays for all ages ! There's noce ambiance here ! It's a pity there's no audio guide and many pieces of displays have no English translations.
Eling H — Google review
The building is architecturally beautiful from both inside and out. The views from the top of the museum are also nice, and the staff is friendly. When it comes to the exhibitions, they seem more suited for children. Adult tickets are a bit overpriced. Almost all descriptions (around 90%) are only in Hungarian.
Luka V — Google review
It's all pretty random. Some stuffed animals, some classical paintings, some japanese ones, some corc-art exhibition and something about the history of hairdressers. The whole thing is in Hungarian only. There is no real concept behind the museum, no round tour, just randomness and a small viewing deck at the top which costs extra. If you are here for the view go to the cathedral instead. The tower view is way more impressive. Also the gold exhebition is under construction and closed atm.
Rico — Google review
I give it 5 stars for the building and the staff. But I think it is way to expensive for what it offered on the day of our visit. Many of the exhibits are temporary so you need to check before going.

We came for the Chinese Terracotta Warriors and Chinese history exhibition. It was really well done. Both interesting and informative. Great for families too with a children's activity section.

Visited while hosting dinosaurs exhibition, I must admit, it was a huge pleasant surprise! A lot of info, interactive robotic dinosaurs emitting sounds and even a playground for kids. Very nice indeed! Other collections are also well presented! What I missed is a souvenir shop with some more literature, mostly there were kids book and all in Hungarian.
Sebastjan U — Google review
Very enjoyable, multiple exhibitions from various areas, some are interactive. You can also climb upstairs on the terrace for a nice view of the city.

The Regional Arts Center is a captivating museum built in 1907, showcasing rotating exhibits of artwork. The building itself is a whimsical masterpiece designed in the art nouveau style, complete with stunning stairwells and sparkling ornaments. The current exhibition, Horizons, offers an extensive survey of contemporary Hungarian art. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, this intelligent and diverse exhibit remains open to visitors. Additionally, the museum features a lovely café with tasty desserts and coffee.
Stunning architecture! The exhibition costs 1000 HUF. When I was visiting there was no one around so it felt like a private gallery.

Reök Palace is definitely a place worth seeing while wandering around Szeged. Designed by architect Ede Magyar—often referred to as the “Hungarian Gaudí”—the building is one of the city’s most striking landmarks. If you are tempted to step inside, keep in mind that the palace has been renovated several times, and today only the staircase reflects its former glory. There is no historical information provided inside about the building, its architect, or the Reök family who once lived there. Even the Green Salon is simply a closed room that must be specially requested to view. At present, the palace functions solely as an art exhibition space. For this reason, I wouldn’t recommend paying the entrance fee unless you are particularly interested in the current exhibitions. Historical information, however, can easily be found elsewhere. Built between 1906 and 1907, Reök Palace is an outstanding example of Hungarian Art Nouveau (Jugendstil), designed by Ede Magyar. Its façade, decorated with blue water lilies, flowing curves, and aquatic-inspired motifs, reflects the profession of its commissioner, water engineer Iván Reök. Originally, the upper interior wall zones were decorated with frescoes of mermaids and water nymphs, continuing the aquatic theme. Legend has it that the conservative ladies of the family later had these images scraped off—a charming anecdote that illustrates how tastes (and modesty) can shift even within one household. Ede Magyar (1877–1912) had a tragically short career, with only about eight years of creative work. He studied in Budapest, traveled throughout Europe, and carried out much of his architectural career in Szeged. Completed in 1907, Reök Palace is his best-known masterpiece, but he also designed the Unger–Mayer House and, in collaboration with Aladár Árkay and József Stahl, the theatre in Kaposvár. Sadly, Magyar’s life ended prematurely in 1912. Iván Reök, the patron of the palace, was a hydraulic engineer, wealthy landowner, and member of parliament. His profession directly inspired the palace’s water-themed iconography. Reök was related to the renowned painter Mihály Munkácsy (variously described in Hungarian sources as either a cousin or nephew), which highlights the family’s cultural prominence. The horse-head ornaments above the entrance reflect his passion for horse breeding, while the building’s floor plan, with its distinct apartments, accommodated a large, multi-generational urban family.
Christina M — Google review
The building was built in 1907 by the architect Ede Magyar, who was 30 years old at the time, and is an exemplary piece of Hungarian Secession, the main motif of the building is water, represented by the blue water lilies that decorate the snow-white facade, the balcony railings that evoke swirling aquatic plants and the animated variety of different wall surfaces that resemble waves. Originally built as a residential building, since 2007 it houses the Regional Arts Center, and on the ground floor there is a café.
Calin H — Google review
My favourite building in Szeged that forms one of the many art Nouveau buildings on the self walking tour of all the sumptuous buildings in this lovely little city. There is also an art gallery within that is worth a look as it’s an airy and serene exhibition space. The interior staircase is enchanting and really sums up the overall look of art nouveau exterior and interior.

Outdoor Activities
Szeged Zoo is a vast outdoor animal park that showcases various exotic creatures in their natural habitats. It provides ample free parking space and features a playground for children, as well as food options within the premises. The animals are healthy and active, and visitors can interact with some of them by feeding them special food. Szeged Zoo is an excellent destination for a day or half-day city break, easily accessible with well-maintained facilities that guarantee safety for all ages.
Must visit place, the biggest zoo in Hungary, paradise for animals, there is so many of them. You need a good 4 hours to see all. It is divided into continents and animals are positioned accordingly. The most important, excellent environment for all beings and few rare animals to see.
Ivana A — Google review
One of the best Zoo to see near Romania and from Hungary. Very many species and a huge place. The main attraction in my opinion is the RED PANDA. Also, there are rhinos and very big elephants. Overall, the zoo is a five star, definetly worth visiting if you have 3 hours free.
Sergiu — Google review
One of the best Zoo's from Eastern Europe. The zoo is very nicely arranged and the animals look very good and healthy. Congratulations to the keepers and we will definitely come back! There are plenty of parking spaces in front of the zoo!
Victor P — Google review
The first steps towards the establishment of the Szeged Zoo began in the 1980s, and on December 5, 1985, the Szeged City Council adopted a resolution establishing the institution as part of the Amusement Park. At that time, the animal collection consisted of only 3 monkeys, a few deer, wild boars and a giant snake. Since January 1, 1989, the National Wildlife Park has become an independent institution, and later, on May 28, it opened its doors with an exhibition of about 4 hectares. It is the youngest traditional zoo in Hungary owned by a municipality and the National Wildlife Park with the largest area of all zoos in Hungary, almost 45 hectares.
Calin H — Google review
It was a beautifull experience especially for the kids they had a lot of fun. We caught the Seals feeding show which was very entertaining. I recommend that you visit in some ways it doesn't feel like a zoo with all the trees and green.
Stancu A — Google review
The zoo is very large, with nice and tidy animal enclosures that offer a lot of space for the animals to live comfortably. It is worth spending the money and visiting with friends and family. I was especially amazed by the cute red panda they have. There is a big playground for kids of all ages and a restaurant for a quick break for food and drinks. I couldn't recommend this place enough.
Sofija L — Google review
Feels a bit better than classic ZOO. Animals have more space, they are not in small cages. Nice to walk, clean, with toilets and some places to buy some snacks. Ticket is not that expencive.

The Zoo was amazing, I recommend you come as early as you can because it will take a lot of time to look at every animal. It took us 5 hours to go around with a quick stop to drink coffee and eat.

Sights & Landmarks
The Dömötör Tower, an intriguing structure constructed with bricks in close proximity to the votive cathedral, regrettably had its doors shut during our visit to the area. The Tower, along with the church and the square encircling it, all possess noteworthy qualities that make them worth witnessing. Moreover, as the most ancient edifice in Szeged, this historical landmark serves as a pleasant destination for tourists seeking to explore its rich history and architectural splendor.

The Botanical Garden of Szeged is a vast and tranquil arboretum that boasts a wealth of plant species. This gorgeous garden features an array of botanical attractions, including a butterfly house, carnivorous plants exhibition, and orchid greenhouse. The well-maintained paths within the garden lead visitors past streams and shady trees, offering plenty of opportunities to relax among nature's beauty. To fully appreciate the gardens' bloom, it's best to visit in spring or summer.
Absolutely loved it, beautiful gardens, lots of nice benches to take a break and enjoy the gardens and wildlife, a real highlight of our stay in Szeged

I loved every inch of this place! It is absolutely gorgeous! They have settings, a beautiful Japanese garden, butterflies, and what I haven't seen in other botanical gardens: a room dedicated to ferns and another for succulents. I create terrariums, so that was a wonderful surprise for me. I recommend that you make time to visit when in Seghed, even if there are so many other wonderful attractions in the city.
Ramona N — Google review
Worthwhile visit! The price is fair, there is parking and a cafe. You need a few hours just to view everything. Recommended!

Absolutely stunning, the lake with lotus flowers, the house with amazing butterflies, rock garden, Japanese garden, garden with flowers used to make paintings & many other interesting staff, like herbal stuff, then a little house with natural aromas, natural scents with a very knowledgeable & nice lady, Ildiko there & so on. :) All staff is also very knowledgeable & nice all around in the botanical garden.:))) I will upload video about my visit to my YouTube channel, just search for "Cyclists HeyJoe PC RPG Community", I add to my channel some GoPro videos about my cycling tours mainly but some other things too, like gameplay videos from story-driven video games, plus short videos from some fun events &/or fun places.:))) Szuper hely nagyon, aki szereti a termeszetet, ez egy kihagyhatatlan hely Szegeden, a napfeny varosaban! ;) :)))

Restaurant
The Hungarian restaurant, Jobb Mint Otthon Kisvendéglő, is an intriguing and pleasant establishment with an appealing outdoor terrace and a traditional kitchen. The terrace offers a scenic view of the lake, providing a delightful dining experience. Although the weather prevented some patrons from enjoying the outdoor seating, the food remains commendable.
Restaurant is very big, with a lot of tables. Their specialty seems to be fish, so we tried fish stew and fish paprikas (don't know the english word 😅) with pasta and cheese. It was all very delicious and the portions were very big.
Igor M — Google review
A family friendly place with great food and great atmosphere. Indoors the restaurant is air-conditioned, while the outside seating areas have overhead fans for air circulation. We had fish stew and fried fish, they were great and we highly recommend anything made from catfish, it's their specialty apparently. As a side, picked red onions were nice and sweet. The only downside was my potatoes were slightly cold, but they were still nicely seasoned and very tasty. One additional thing that's worth praising is that there is a special separated place for smokers so that they don't disturb anyone's meal with cigarette smoke.

The best fish soup I’ve ever eaten. I highly recommend the authentic Hungarian cottage cheese too. Warm and friendly atmosphere, helpful waiters. Congratulation! 🤩5✨🥘

Great food (both fish and non-fish dishes), exceptional and very kind staff, huge portions and reasonable pricing! Ideal to organize birthday dinner even for more than 10 people! The location is lovely! I highly recommend it, I'll be back for sure!

Authentic Szeged style fish soup, professional waiters and a wonderful master cook in the kitchen. This is a place to go for one of the best food in Szeged! The little lake makes it charming and even more authentic. Definitely coming back when I'm in Szeged next time.
Veronika C — Google review
Interesting and nice restaurant because of the outside terrace and traditional kitchen with Terrace has a view to the lake. We did not had the chance to sit outside cause weather was not very friendly. Food is good although is not my type of cooking. We tried the traditional fish soup for that region and fried carp fish. Soup was made from three different types of fish as the traditional receipt says :) served in big bucket for four people. Bread is very good. Apple Rakiq-we enjoyed for sure. In general we had a good experience there. Definitely is a place to visit.

Z. Nagy Cukrászda is a small but exceptional pastry shop that offers top-quality cakes, pastries, cookies, and coffee. Despite its limited space, the service is excellent and the experience is highly recommended. The place is known for its delicious cottage cheese-based treats and value-for-money birthday cakes. Visitors praise the variety of chocolate tarts and cakes available. Customers often receive complimentary items such as small cookies or discounted ice cream, making it a delightful experience overall.
Excellent cake and coffee. Authentic Hungarian sweet treats.

They completely messed up my order. The cake supposed to be rounded and simply decorated, and not storey cake, 40 slices. They took a picture too, what we want. Instead my order they made a completely different cake, and we had to pay it. They didn't offer any other solution or compensation. Not happy at all!!!!

Indian restaurant
Experience the enticing menu and authentic ambiance of Taj Mahal Restaurant, where you can indulge in a tantalizing array of dishes from the vibrant subcontinental cuisine. This lovely establishment brings the exotic flavors of India to Hungary, offering a delightful assortment of delectable options that include both exquisite meat delicacies and splendid vegetarian meals. The restaurant is known for its scrumptious naan bread and prides itself on providing a true taste of India.
Excellent. While the reviews from other people had given it away already that this is a fine place, experiencing it in person added even more to it — this is one of the best chicken tikka masala I’ve ever had. Rich and creamy, full of beautiful flavours and with meat that is purely tender. Clearly an indication that this dish had been simmering in a clay pot for properly long hours. Hard to put in words, one must try it .. same for the other dishes, this is Indian food served at a very high level. And the staff are very welcoming too, very much enjoyed it and would like to say THANKS to all of them.
Roland T — Google review
We tried Indian food for the first time here. Can't judge on the authenticity because I am a foreigner, but everything was amazing! The most attentive waiter talked to us, recommended us dishes according to our preferences, served us and checked in regularly how we liked it and if we needed anything else. Amazing man, a true professional! I HIGHLY recommend this place, we had a great meal and a great time!
Tina T — Google review
Truly authentic Indian food. Everything about this restaurant is just great. The food is amazing, the prices are very fair, the staff is very kind and attentive. We’re from Serbia, and whenever we come to Szeged, we must stop to eat here, been here 5 or 6 times already. See you again very soon!

Absolute Top!!! ✅The location was good (literally round the corner from our apartment) ✅The food was top notch!! (I strongly recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala) ✅The owner is extremely well mannered and friendly ✅The staff behind the bar are VERY friendly and well mannered ✅Very good level of English aswell which of course makes ordering etc very easy for a Non Hungarian Will most certainly be returning 😃

This restaurant serves truly authentic Indian food, and everything about it is excellent. The dishes are bursting with flavor, clearly made with care, and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are warm, kind, and attentive, making every visit a pleasure. We’re from Serbia, and every time we visit Szeged, we make sure to stop here — we’ve already been 5 or 6 times, and it never disappoints. Highly recommended for anyone craving genuine Indian cuisine.
Michael L — Google review
Staff is great, food comes quickly, portions are big and prices are amazing! Only thing is that food can be slightly better. It is good, but we’ve been to a few better Indian restaurants.
Lilit M — Google review
I have visited this restaurant twice, and unfortunately, both experiences were very disappointing. The first time, I ordered a lamb dish, the sauce was lumpy, curdled, and completely different from how it should have been. The taste didn’t resemble an authentic Indian dish at all. Today, I decided to give the restaurant a second chance and ordered lamb karahi. Unfortunately, this time it was even worse, the meat was served with raw skin on it. It was shocking and absolutely unacceptable! I have never seen anything like this in any Indian restaurant before. Sadly, I have to say that I won’t be coming back to this place.
Ewa O — Google review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the Indian restaurant Taj Mahal Etterem here in Szeged Hungary 🇭🇺. As an Indian cuisine lover, it’s always a pleasure when an Indian restaurant gets it right ✅. The service and Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The food was very good and I can’t wait to visit again to try another dish. One very minor point was the position of my table. Unfortunately, I could see through a door leading to the kitchen which also meant I could hear the kitchen in action (plates clashing). Again, this was very minor and easily fixed. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

Hungarian restaurant
Kiskörössy Fish Tavern is a cozy restaurant located on the outskirts of the city, offering some of the best fish dishes in Hungary. Situated on the Tisza Riverside, it provides a great outdoor dining experience with massive portions full of flavor. The menu features traditional and newly created Hungarian fish dishes paired with a variety of local wines. The attentive and polite staff, along with live folk music, create a memorable dining experience by the riverbank.
The food was really good. It is hard to find a place howdays where they prepare well the real fish soup. We had the one with mixed fishes and intestinals and it was amazing. Also the frogg leggs were fresh and well prepared. The grilled fish and salads were standardly tasty. P.S. Book in advance specially on weekends as it is busy as it gets

This is a gem. We first came here three years ago, on the recommendation of a Hungarian colleague. We loved it then, and it's still as amazing. The fish soup is special, but so is everything else, fish, flesh and fowl. And the portions are good, almost too large! Great value for money. We'll be back!
Andrew W — Google review
We tried the Szeged-style fish soup, and the portion was generous with plenty of fish. The catfish was my favorite, it was tender and flavorful. I wasn’t too impressed with the bread, though; it didn’t taste fresh and seemed like it might have been store-bought (although they did provide a lot of it). The atmosphere was pleasant and the setting comfortable. Service was friendly and efficient.

Fantastic traditional hungarian fish dishes. Sizes: you will not stay hungry for sure, but all left overs are packed if requested. Quick and excellent service. Highly recommend. Try "Harcsapaprikás with túrós csusza" - one of the best on the world.
Erika F — Google review
tried the fish paprikás with pasta and cheese. The flavors leaned heavily on paprika and flour-thickened, making it feel a bit one-dimensional. While the portion was generous and filling, the overall taste was only average and lacked balance. Unfortunately, the experience was also affected by an unwelcoming and impolite waiter, which diminished the enjoyment of the location
