Sights & Landmarks
Zamora Castle, a grand fortress in the heart of the town, is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture. The castle features well-preserved structures such as the Tribute Tower, gates, and moat. It has served various purposes throughout history including as a prison and court of justice. The castle offers free entry to visitors and guided tours that delve into its historical significance. Surrounded by Castle Park, it provides stunning views of the Douro River and the city.
Beautiful and very well preserved walls, we stopped for a quick walk and lunch on our way to another city but did not have a chance to go inside because it was a Monday (it’s closed) keep that in mind if you plan to enter the walls

An amazing fortress with views into the countryside is stunning. I’m really surprised entrance is free. I shouldn’t be given the fact that that a lot of European money was invested into the structure. Still an amazing gift to tourist and pilgrims of Zamora.

Fascinating visit to a castle very much altered over the ages. The visit was made much more interesting by the young man on the gate who went out of his way to explain the history and in English too. Many thanks.

Beautifully preserved castle with incredible views of the city. This is a free experience and the man working at the front was extremely knowledgeable about the castle and it's history.

An incredible piece of medieval architecture. Unfortunately, when I arrived, they were just closing, but I believe access into the castle and viewing its interiors and parapets is free. The views from the castle and surrounding Park are amazing. There was a festival on almost I was there and many food and beverage stalls and lots of people enjoying the sun and the music. There was also a a mobile bathroom facility, which was great. It seems in Spain that public bathrooms are not supported or supplied so finding one is a real boon.

The Castle of Zamora is an 11th-century medieval fortress located next to the Cathedral in the old town. It played a key role in the defense of the Kingdom of León and still preserves parts of its original structure, including walls and the Keep Tower. From the top, visitors can enjoy great views of the Duero River and the city. Entrance is free, making it a perfect quick stop while exploring the historic center.

Historical & Medieval Castle This is a great castle beautiful and well preserved. This is the real Spain, this castle shows how in the past centuries you had to protect yourself against invaders and make sure your walls were strong and thick. Now it is easily accessible to visit and his well preserved. We really enjoyed the visit!

We went there quite spontaneously and had the big luck of seeing a free little introductory presentation about the castle, the city and its history from the guard there. The ruins are very interesting and you could see the passion the guard had for history and his town! Lovely visit, would absolutely recommend!!

Its origins date back to the 10th century, although the current building is largely Romanesque from the 11th and 12th centuries, with later renovations in the Gothic and Baroque styles. According to tradition, this is the burial place of Saint Ildefonso and Saint Atilano, patron saints of the diocese. Puente de Piedra, also known as the Stone Bridge, has been an iconic landmark in Zamora for over 800 years. This medieval arched bridge offers picturesque views and is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. The city's Romanesque architecture takes visitors back to the Middle Ages, with well-preserved defensive walls adding to its historical charm.
Spectacular introduction, the old entrance to Zamora. Pilgrims still cross this 13th century bridge on the Silver Way to Santiago. You should walk along the banks of the River Douro to capture the main monuments/views including of the bridges arches.

This old Roman bridge is a must see. Even it many tourist are here you can see many pilgrims, coming from seville and heading for Santiago de Compostela coming over this bridge. With about 2000 years it's gonna be one of the oldest buildings you'll probably Walt on. Jus imagine how long people walk over this bridge. With the public parks I. The middle, a really nice place to enjoy the Spanish sun.

Architectural Buildings
The Museo Baltasar Lobo is a delightful and quaint gallery featuring contemporary sculptures by the talented Spanish artist Baltasar Lobo. The collection includes an array of special pieces, with a particular focus on the theme of maternity, which are truly remarkable. This museum offers visitors an opportunity to learn about Lobo's work, a relatively unknown artist in his homeland due to having gone into exile during the Civil War. The display also showcases paintings and photographs alongside the beautiful sculptures.
Beautiful museum. A great artist. Free!
Johanna R — Google review
After many years I finally got the opportunity to travel from Ireland to Zamora to visit El Museo Baltasar Lobo. It was an enormous pleasure to be able to see and indeed touch so many masterpieces of this great artist but the museum itself left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. There was little information, and no bookshop on offer. My wife and I wanted to view the floor, were the receptionist was sitting, which contained many more of the artists works, but we were refused access without explanation. My wife also wanted to use the public bathroom but likewise she was told that this was off limits again without explanation. While I was on the upper floor of the exhibition a man entered the museum and started to converse incredibly loudly and swear with the receptionist who clearly knew him. This continued to the point where I had to go downstairs and ask them please to be quiet as it was impossible to enjoy the museum with this nonsense. I have travelled the world visiting museums and this was the first time I have ever had to ask actual employees of a cultural establishment to show a minimum of courtesy to their visitors. The only reason I know of the existence of Zamora is thanks to the genius of Baltasar Lobo. The employees who owe their livelihoods to their great erstwhile compatriot should show his art and the people who travel the world to experience it more respect.

(Translated by Google) The Church of Santa María Magdalena is one of the most interesting Romanesque churches in Zamora. According to various studies, this church is associated with the Hospitallers and the Templars, and it must have also belonged to the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem until the 19th century. The elegance of its lines and purity of form give it incredible perfection. It is one of the most beautiful churches in the city and was built by the architect Giral Fruchel, known for works such as the Cathedral of Ávila. The Church of Santa María Magdalena was built in two phases: in the first, the entire nave was vaulted, and in the second, after the vault collapsed, the upper part of the south wall was rebuilt, hence the almost Gothic windows and the wooden covering of the nave. It is a single-nave church with a tower at the foot and a semicircular chancel that houses the main chapel. Its interior, like the entire church, is notable for its elegance and sense of ascension. Of particular note is a Romanesque tomb of an unknown lady attributed to Queen Urraca of Portugal, the first wife of Ferdinand II. Her recumbent figure is embedded in the wall with two angels carrying her soul to paradise, a symbol of the building, and two tabernacles embedded in the front corners of the nave and covered with a barrel vault. Inside, the lack of altarpieces is striking. The elevation features a first section with 12th-century canopies or tabernacles and a second section with columns and corbels. Most of the ceiling is made of wood, except for the chancel, whose vault features reinforcing ribs. Noteworthy are its chancel, sectioned externally by columns, windows, and imposts, and its two magnificent doorways. Southern Doorway The south doorway has plant decorations depicting heavenly paradise. The other doorways are more austere. The northern part has been modified over the centuries. As for the decoration, the north and west doors are decorated with plants. The south door is the most striking, with its varied iconography. Interestingly, the Church of Maria Magdalena has a popular legend that if you don't see the bishop carved on its south door, you won't get married. It has held the highest monumental designation since 1910, and its preservation is excellent.

Restaurante Ágape offers a selection of tapas, as well as traditional Spanish and Italian dishes, in a charming setting with rustic stone walls and a terrace. Two couples with limited Spanish language skills recently enjoyed an excellent dining experience here. The exceptional food and service were further enhanced by their server, who introduced herself as Baby. This restaurant is definitely worth visiting, especially with the helpful assistance of Baby.
We came here on our first evening and continued to eat here twice a day for the rest of our stay in Zamora. Food is amazing, whatever you choose, from the octopus dish, tuna salad, homemade stuffed pasta, to amazingly good wild mushroom pizza and a wide range of fingerlicking tapas. We loved every bit of it! Highly recommend the weekly menues for variety, flavour and unbelievable prices. The staff is wonderful. Kind, helpful and professional. Made us feel like we came home. Big thanks to our regular waitress Remi. You made our vacation! We hope to come back some day! *Photo one is smoked salmon and smoked cod salad (yes, salat is under a 'kilo' of lovely fish) with tempura asparagus. Tastes amazing and could easily be a 2 person light dinner. *Photo 2 is the weekly menu on our stay, we tried and loved everything *Photo 3 is tuna salad (my favourite meal on the entire vacation) and pasta from the weekly menu

Food was good and prices were not bad. Our hostess seemed to be in a bad mood, as I was trying to use a translator to understand the menu before ordering. The second person who came out at the end checked up on us and was cheerful, so maybe the first person was having a bad day. Good location, but until we sat down, no one else was going there like the other place next door. I normally capture pictures of the menu, prices and food, but the initial five minutes were a bit rough.

Experience exquisite cuisine at Los Caprichos de Meneses, where you can indulge in tantalizing dishes like prawns with zesty cocktail sauce, tangy cheese and cilantro, or innovative foie gras chupa chups paired with a delightful applesauce. Don't miss the delectable cod strudel and the fluffy potato tortilla souffle. This restaurant takes pride in offering high-quality food and impeccable service.
On a Sunday night, there was an active bar out front and white tablecloth tables in a quiet inside room. Definitely a local vibe this evening with a quiet elderly couple, a friendly group of middle aged men and a flashy young family. The cheese salad and roasted duck were beautifully done. They paired very well with a nicely aged Cava. The service was on point. The wine list was focused, yet adequate. The WiFi was not accessible.

Quality food and proper service. Their meat selection is premium. The service is sharp and efficient. We found a disconnection between the firsts (fancy and fusion) and the mains (very traditional). Underwhelming. Relatively slow service and one of the younger waiters looked like out of the element. Food had a great effort put on presentation but lacking in the essence: taste. One slice of a potato as a side is q bit ridiculous! Duck magnet was very basic. Which we has the opportunity to go for the tapas but the waiters refused to serve different food depending on which side of the room you are on. Shame! Tapas menu looked very interesting!

The dining experience at El Portón was impressive, as the waiter's recommendations were well-received by all. The dishes, such as the seasoned mushrooms and "chuleta de Aliste," were exquisite. While it may be considered expensive for residents of Zamora, it is reasonably priced for other locations. Every euro spent here is worth it, and many would eagerly return to this classic bar and restaurant. The food is incredibly delicious, with a focus on meat but also including fish options.

Creative cuisine and tasty food. Great quality of the product. Tapas are elaborated in a creative way. It’s located in the city center, close to another restaurants. The staff is professional and friendly. I highly recommend it if you want to try something different and delicious.

Close (350m) to AC Hotel Zamora (by Marriott). Smooth & personal service by two very friendly ladies. Great food, especially noteworthy the aubergine with teriyaki sauce and the tuna tartar (outstanding).

This restaurant is an absolute hidden gem, a fantastic combination of traditional Zamoran food with some Asian influence. This quality-price is uncomparable, very difficult to find these days. Highly recommended!

We were lucky to get in here (there was a problem with the booking we made en route from Vitoria Gasteiz in October). The food, staff and atmosphere were great. But for the first time in years I got cheated at the end with the pay in sterling scam. Checking the credit card slip (which I could not make out in low lighting at the time) shows that they converted the bill to sterling without permission, with a scandalous 9.51% stated markup. They even had the cheek to print "I accept the conversion rate, mark-up and final ... amount". They cheated us by £6.27 vs what I ALWAYS CHOOSE when offered a choice - pay in local currency. That's a 14% scam vs the rate if I'd been allowed to pay €s. That said, it was still not expensive compared with, say, Seville.

Asador Casa Mariano offers a modern setting to enjoy traditional Spanish cuisine, with its specialty being the delicious roasted lamb cooked in a wood-fired oven. The restaurant provides a variety of other enticing options and reasonably priced local wines. Despite its slightly upscale and modern ambiance, the establishment maintains a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. While not the most budget-friendly option, the quality of food and service make it worth the visit.
This “asador” has its own traditional oven and, as a result, serves what is probably the best “lechazo” roasted lamb in town. The starters and the dessert were also spot on. Service is old style, but very efficient and nice.

Beautiful place, great service, quality food. Not necessarily the cheapest (4 people about 100€) but it's worth it. They even offer some roasted veggies if you're vegan or vegetarian.
