Termoli

Termoli is a fishing town on the Adriatic coast of Italy. The old town, or Borgo Antico di Termoli, stands within ancient fortifications. Inside these walls, pastel-colored houses line narrow streets. Also here are Termoli Cathedral, with intricate mosaic floors, and the 13th-century Castello Svevo. Nearby, the Belvedere Tower offers views of the harbor. Termoli is also known for its sandy beaches such as Rio Vivo.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the charming town of Termoli, the Castello Svevo stands as a testament to centuries of history and architectural prowess. This impressive 13th-century fortress, originally constructed by Frederick II of Swabia, once served as a prison under Bourbon rule but has since been transformed into a cultural hub hosting various exhibits and events. Its limestone and sandstone fortifications not only protect the historic center but also offer breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape, including stunning beaches.
This is a very nice place. It's worth parking on the outskirts of town, you can walk for a long time along the beach and in the fort. On the beach there are several restaurants, cafés and ice cream shops with beautiful views of the coast and the castle.

Very close to shops, restaurants and accomodation. A wonderful piece of history to enjoy. The homes in the area add to the character of this area and are kept in great condition.

Nice to look at and to walk around, right next to the sea.

Termoli is a beautiful City. Parking near the harbor. Easy steps up into the town and Castle. Photos from parking area.
Kathy E — Google review
Beautiful little seaside community. The old part of town is charming and beach is easily accessed for leisurely strolls. Visited during low season so city was quieter and more enjoyable for us. The castle could only be seen from the outside but nice vistas of the city and adriatic from the top of fortified walls.

I'm not sure why this "Castle" is so highly rated. It's pretty much a turret. There's no way to go inside, and there's really not a lot to it. There are other castles, some distance away, that actually do have rooms, and frescoes, and panoramic views of the countryside. Termoli itself is awesome, and there are a lot of very cool things in the vicinity of this "castle" including terraced houses and walls that can be walked on, but I have no idea why this one is so highly rated.

Historic Walking Areas
Neighborhoods
The Ancient Village of Termoli, also known as "Paese Vecchio," is a must-visit spot with its stunning views and the aroma of the sea. It dates back to the Middle Ages when Termoli was a small fishing village. The village sits atop a hill, offering breathtaking ocean and port views. While it may be smaller compared to other old towns in Italy, it boasts well-preserved medieval architecture and clean streets.
beautiful views and lovely little bar all around well worth a walk around stopping of for a drink in one of bars /cafes

Italy is full of wonderful old towns. We've seen many and always like to find some new Centro Storicos or Borgo Anticos. Compared to many other towns, Termoli has a quite small old center. The location is quite beautiful though. Sitting on top of a hill, overlooking the ocean. You can walk all around the historic center, all with sea and port views. Inside the old center there is honestly not that much to see and do. Not just because of Corona. There are just not that many shops or restaurants. Only a handful. It was nice to walk around the small area anyways. But compared to other Historic Center it's quite a quick walk. Still, landmarks like the Castello Svevo with the Belvedere della Torretta, the Cathedral of Saint Mary 'della Purificazione and the Piazza Duomo makes the visit worth a drive. Don't miss out on the new part of town. The Corso Nazionale is a nice walking and shopping street. Surely worth a visit.

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Purification, located in the heart of Termoli's ancient village, is a restored Romanesque-style historic landmark. It is believed to have been built between the 12th and 13th centuries and houses the tombs of Saints Basso and Timothy. The cathedral's facade showcases a blend of Apulian Romanesque and Gothic styles due to renovations following earthquakes and invasions.
Beautiful and imposing Cathedral with nice acoustics (we even sang there) and large organ at the back of the church. Peaceful place to visit! 📍 Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Purification, Termoli, Italy

Borgo Antico in Termoli is a charming historic area full of character. Walking through its narrow stone streets feels like stepping back in time. The views from the old town, especially at sunset, are breathtaking and perfect for photography. It’s quiet on weekdays, making it ideal for a peaceful stroll and to enjoy the architecture without crowds. 💡 Tip: Visit in the late afternoon to catch the golden light and then enjoy dinner at one of the local restaurants nearby.

(Translated by Google) The essential. Even in the small village of Termoli we find the essentials, namely the Cathedral with the crypt below, the Bishop's Palace, the Underground Termoli, the Walls and the Swabian Castle with its Towers including the Belvedere Tower. We found it very clean like all of Termoli, obviously very quiet and with several restaurants and B&Bs. Absolutely worth visiting, especially exploring the alleys that in a few seconds take you back to the maritime panorama which on days like that of November 2nd even gave us a view of San Domino, one of the Tremiti Islands. Hello from Roby and Lucy from Sant'Anastasia (Na). (Original) L’essenziale.

Seafood restaurant
Il Grottino is an excellent choice if you're looking for affordable and fresh seafood, particularly fish. The staff is attentive and has a great sense of humor. The ambiance is intimate, and the cuisine rivals that of a high-end restaurant. I highly recommend trying their fish soup! The establishment offers both takeout options and a sit-down dining area. The owner is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. You won't be disappointed!
Try the fish soup!!! The place is divided in a take away corner and a proper restaurant. Very nice owner and super fair prices, you won't regret it! For the soup, fried peppers, orecchiette, half a liter of white wine and coffee we spent 43€. We will definitely come back!

Absolutely disgusting service. Came in at 9:30pm wanted to order something lighter for my stomach. The man serving was completely disrespectful and rude mentioning how we weren’t eating that much, that they are a “restaurant not a bar”, when we were ordering three full pizzas! I cannot explain how rude the man was, in the end, we couldn’t take such bad service we decided to leave right after ordering because he was so rude. I’m absolutely disgusted at his service.

Excellent meal, excellent and efficient service, will return. The owner was very welcoming and made great recommendations. Food was some of the best we had in Termoli.

SUPREMELY RUDE. We showed up in a big group (to a nearly empty restaurant) but let the waiter know that we weren't very hungry. We start ordering and all he can say is that "you're at a restaurant not a bar, if you didn't want to eat you should've gone to a bar". The place smelled really bad (like armpits) on top of everything. Finally he just treated our guests bad enough that we left before they could make us anything. I am truly shocked at the terrible service here. We left and went to other restaurants nearby and nobody treated us even remotely poorly.

A cozy place to have dinner at. Perfect for couples, families or just friends. The specialities served are really tasty and the personnel is kind and gentle.

Extremely rude service. The place smells overwhelmingly like sweat and we got shamed because we only were going to order 3 pizzas. The man taking the orders was extremely disrespectful. DO NOT COME HERE!

Great catch if you are trying to get some good fresh food (especially fish) for a very very limited price. The waiting staff is subliminal at taking care of you and is always ready for a joke. The place is cozy but the food will make you feel like you are in a starred restaurant. 10/10 would recommend

With its chic ambiance and brick-vaulted space near the seafront, it provides a delightful dining experience. Lovely outdoor settings, great attentive service and excellent food. They had an extensive wine list as well - I can recommend the 200 Metri made from the local Tintilia grape. The red wine was fantastic, but served a little bit to warm, I know that will be contested by almost every italien, but I maintain my viewpoint 😄
Jens O — Google review
It’s one of those places that looks unforgettable — until the food arrives. The atmosphere is stunning: elegant design, warm tones, and an inviting sense of sophistication that sets expectations high. The Chitarrine al tartufo molisano was heavy on butter, leaving little room for the truffle to shine. The Spaghetti ai ricci di mare was ok, unremarkable. The Tiramisù also missed the mark, though the oyster was excellent — fresh and perfectly prepared. Beautiful place, ok-average food.

Diner
Ristorante Da Nicolino is a charming eatery located near the castle in Termoli. Known for its exceptional seafood offerings, this establishment showcases the finest in traditional Termolese cuisine. The sophisticated dining room, with its brick arches, creates an elegant ambiance for diners to enjoy their meal. A must-try specialty is brodetto alla termolese, a lavish local fish stew that will leave you satisfied.
A must if you’re in Termoli or anywhere close by. Try the Brodetto di Pesce!!! An individual portion is more than enough for 2 and is served with vermicelli pasta that can be eaten as a soup when you pour over the fish broth. Wine list is rich in local options and very cheap! Ps: if you don’t eat fish, don’t embarrass yourself and go elsewhere! This is a fish restaurant!

Wow, what a find! Stumbled in here completely by chance on a Sunday evening when lots of places were closed and it was great. The portions are very generous, highly recommend the signature dish of prawns and paccheri (type of pasta) cooked in a terracotta bowl. Lots of local customers along with tourists and great atmosphere

The restaurant is very elegant inside, nice tables, tables clothing, great service. But the review is not about that is about the food. Their food is delicious but the king or the Queen of all is the fish soup Îl Brobetto di Nicolino....amazing few kinds of delicious fish, seafood, toasted bread and the tomatoes soup is amazing....comes with a plate of pasta They tell the dish is for one but is good for two not so hungry. It worth the drive from Salerno to Termoli and trust me is worth it.

A delightful restaurant with a delicious Mediterranean menu and a cozy atmosphere. Excellent and fast service, the dishes are simply incredibly tasty, and we were pleasantly surprised by the compatriot chef! Don't forget to try their fish soup and cannoli delicacy, simply delicious! However, it is recommended to reserve a table in advance, even on a weekday, as the entire room is always full

Simply AMAZING. We got different groups of locals recommended us this restaurant. However, silly as I, still came with doubt. Luckily we did come and as the result, we had the best dish of the region! All the seafoods are so fresh, the crew was friendly, and great food just makes people happy, you can feel it in the air! Do make reservations. We don’t have local numbers so we walked in to do so, first round was fully booked, we got to book our for second round.
Chia L — Google review
People who knew what to order seemed to get high quality seafood. We had not been there before, so perhaps we weren’t ordering the best items, but our food was not good. If it’s not going to be prepared well, it shouldn’t be on the menu. Cannot recommend the cuttlefish with peas or the ravioli. Fried calamari was a little better, but too greasy. Mixed seafood grill was not at all as expected. Nothing really tasty from what we tried, and certainly not worth the price. For some reason, our food took a lot longer to arrive than others who came in either before or after us. Spent most of our time there staring at an empty table. The waiters were as friendly as could be expected given the language barrier, but service was very slow and we often seemed to be forgotten.

Located in the picturesque port area of Termoli, Italy, Recchi Fish Restaurant offers a delightful dining experience with its casual cafeteria-style setting. The restaurant is known for its diverse menu featuring prawns, mussels, lobster, fish antipasti, and pasta. Emphasizing the use of fresh and seasonal ingredients sourced from local producers whenever possible, the restaurant ensures that every dish is made to order for optimal freshness. Visitors can expect an array of delectable seafood options prepared to perfection.

The young man in black glasses serving us today was quite rude. We were told there was no space inside to sit and when we left there was still plenty of open tables inside the restaurant. His “advice” was showing us how the menu worked which we understood and didn’t like that we wanted calamari as an appetizer. Additionally he charged us $14 euros for a small plate of unseasoned zucchini as our meals side dish. I would not recommend going here. :(

Grande! Very fresh fish and good price quality level. Love to hop in when I am around. In the summertime it is hard to find a space for lunch. The best tuna steak I had here and not only once. Also the Anchovi salad as a starter tastes awesome. Highly recommended to try it, if you visit Termoli!

Ristorante Don Giovanni - Steak House is a family-owned and operated restaurant located in Termoli, Italy. Since its opening in 2004, it has been serving an eclectic menu of Italian cuisine featuring grilled Argentine and Irish steaks, homemade pasta, and other seasonal delights. The restaurant offers a warm and rustic atmosphere where diners can enjoy their meals paired with a selection of Italian wines sourced from various regions.
This is one of the best restaurant in town. I think i have never had nowhere such an amazing dinner. The meat was outstanding and delicious. We had Parma prosciutto and 1.5kg of Spanish meat along with roasted vegetables and potatoes (super sweet delicious potatoes). The wine was amazing and the bill in perfect line with the high quality dinner. In this place you have the best quality of everything and you cannot compare it with other restaurants. The service and the attention of the waiters is impeccable (tips are not included in the bill so remember to hand it separately afterwards). There is AC just renovated and well diffused in the overall space and therefore the temperature is perfect especially during the warm summer. Simply perfect.

I walked in without a booking and had no trouble being seated. I ordered the fillet ( medium) with red onion and brandy, a salad, oven baked potatoes and a glass of house wine. The wait staff advised that the potatoes would take about 20 mins which was fine given I hadn’t ordered a first course. The steak was cooked perfectly and was tender and delicious. It could have been seasoned a little more for my taste, but there was salt on the table to season it myself. The potatoes were delicious and worth the wait. I was offered dessert and chose the cheesecake with Lotus biscuit and salted caramel, it arrived in an individual pot and was much lighter than expected and quite delicious. All in all a lovely meal. The staff were helpful and friendly. If I return to Termoli in the future I will definitely eat here again

A Memorable First Meal in Termoli. Don Giovanni Restaurant & Steak House It was our first time in Termoli, and like most travellers, we asked on Instagram for a good restaurant and steak house. Ristorante Don Giovanni came recommended by a local guy now living in London and it didn’t disappoint. We went for lunch on a Friday and were warmly greeted by Davide, who genuinely took the time to listen to what we were after. He made thoughtful suggestions, not the usual generic stuff, and clearly cared about the experience. The service was faultless, and the quality of the food was fantastic. We’ve eaten our way around the world, Dubai, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and many more. I can honestly say, you’re getting real value here. Not just price value, but quality ingredients, proper service, and care in the kitchen. As someone who genuinely appreciates a good steak, my eye couldn’t help but catch the other plates coming from the kitchen, everything looked on point. I had pasta as well, which was absolutely fantastic and clearly made with pride. The house red wine was an ideal pairing smooth, rich and with a nice after taste. We finished with semifreddo and tiramisu, both classic, well-balanced and not overdone. A strong finish to a memorable meal. We’ve just purchased a property nearby and I’m confident this will become one of our regular spots when in the region. If you’re visiting Termoli and looking for honest food with standout service, Don Giovanni deserves your attention.

We have not been here for a few years - but Davide and his team welcomed us like regulars. Service was fast and exceptional - food and this is a steak house - so no fish etc., was amazing . They packed all our leftovers with so much care and we had today for lunch . The steak - what a great concept to have the hot plate - everyone got to choose exactly how they wanted their steak done . I have never tasted steak so tender ..I would highly recommend this beautiful restaurant to anyone - our bill for 7 + a 3 year old was €360…we gave a €30 tip. This included wine and drinks - expresso and 1 tiramisu…which apparently was Delish

Absolute perfection! My escort, who lives in Termoli, had told me very good things about this family operation. So, Don Giovanni was the first place we went upon my arrival from the US. The atmosphere is typical steakhouse--warmly elegant. And very welcoming. I especially enjoyed our table location on the second floor terrace, where we could view the activity below. The extensive menu comprises a large variety of meat cuts from some of the most famous beef producing regions of the world. Each is prepared precisely to order, in 100 gram increments, seasoned to taste with pink salt and coarse black pepper accompaniments. We also enjoyed the grilled eggplant as well as the freshly crisp salads. Don Giovanni's wine list provides multi-national selections at appropriate price points. All the staff are very gracious, and helpful with pairings. Ristorante Don Giovanni's ambiance and quality are world class. Be sure to make advance reservations!
