Nature & Parks
Hill View Park is a picturesque destination located just about a kilometer from the Idukki city center, offering breathtaking views of the Cheruthoni and Idukki Dams. The park spans 8 acres and features lush greenery with a diverse range of flowering plants, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy pedal boating in the natural water source within the park.
We visited Hill View Park early in the morning around 8 AM, just before heading for boating. At that time, we were the only visitors, which allowed us to enjoy the park and its viewpoints peacefully without any crowd. The park is very well maintained, and the early morning serenity adds to the charm. However, do note that the adventure activities in the park begin later in the day and weren't available during our visit. Despite that, it’s definitely a must-visit place for anyone looking to experience the mesmerizing beauty of Idukki. Tip: Visit early to enjoy the calm atmosphere and beautiful views, but if you're interested in adventure activities, consider going later in the day.

Rating: 4.75/5* Idukki, Painav, Cheruthoni Dam, Hill View Park, Painav, Kalvari Hills, and more! *Hill View Park:* Located near the Govt. Guest House in Painav, this scenic park is maintained by the Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council. Painav is the district headquarters, nestled in a forest area with limited construction and development. The township is located 4 kms away at Cheruthoni. The park features a beautiful garden, lake, and stunning views of the Idukki Dam and surrounding mountains. *Attractions:* - Boat rides on the lake - Children's park and cafeteria offering snacks and ice cream - Seating areas to relax - Evening illumination (6 pm) - A view tower on the second level offering enchanting views of the lake, mountains, landscape, and dam *Nearby Accommodations:* - Idukki Govt. Guest House and Govt. PWD Rest House (prior online booking required) with concessional tariff for Govt. staff and retired employees - Private hotels at Cheruthoni (4 kms away) - recommended for stay due to better amenities *Nearby Attractions:* - Kalvary Hills: a fantastic viewpoint worth visiting - Cheruthoni Dam *Travel Tips:* - Visit Painav by own vehicle or taxi, as public transport may not be convenient. - Enjoy the scenic drive on well-maintained hilly roads - it's an attraction in itself! - Avoid visiting during the rainy season for a safer experience. - Be prepared for possible power supply disturbances. - Be cautious of elephants on the roads and ensure a safe drive. - Consider staying at Cheruthoni for better amenities and accommodations. *Exploring Idukki Tourism:* This review focuses on Painav, but Idukki district offers many more exciting tourist spots, such as Munnar, Mattuppetti, Devikulam, Kulukkumalai, and many more. With a well-planned 4-5 day itinerary, you can experience the best of Idukki's natural beauty and attractions.

Beautiful place to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of Idukki. The park is well-maintained with clean pathways and a calm atmosphere. The view of the dam and surrounding hills is absolutely worth it. One thing I really liked is that the toilets were clean and properly maintained, which is rare in many tourist spots. A peaceful spot for families, couples, and solo travellers alike. Worth a visit if you’re in Idukki.

A well maintained park on a hill with a great view of the Cheruthoni &,Idukki dams, along with the reservoir. A watch tower is built on top of the hill to catch a glimpse of the dams and the hill ranges. There are also adventure sports available. Toilet facilities are good and maintained well.

You could see Anamudi mountain as well from here. Car parking is available, but there is a steep walk to the park. Not for old age people

River
Periyar, one of Kerala's largest rivers, flows majestically through the stunning Idukki gorge, flanked by the towering Kuravan and Kurathi rocks. This picturesque region is home to the impressive Idukki Arch Dam, a highlight for any traveler exploring Idukki. The area also features other significant dams like Kulamavu and Cheruthoni, making it a vital hub for hydroelectric power—supplying an astounding 66% of Kerala's energy needs.
The Periyar Tiger Reserve covers the area inclusive of and around an artifical lake, created as a result of the construction of the Mullaperiyar Dam. The river and the dam are so called because the dam is located after the confluence of the Mullayar and Periyar rivers.
