Points of Interest & Landmarks
Popeye Village, located in Malta's Mellieha, was originally constructed as a film set for the 1980 musical 'Popeye.' It has since been transformed into a captivating theme park village that offers boat rides, food outlets, and a vibrant atmosphere. The colorful wooden structures and stunning sea views make it an enchanting destination for visitors of all ages.
Very nice place to visit with your friends the village itself is very small, but you can do water sport activities such as stand-up paddle boarding. You can also rent a boat and go on a tour and also go parasailing. we weren’t during the off-season so it wasn’t very busy to get in but we were there at 9:30 and we were first in the door so it was nice to have the place for ourselves for a few minutes to take photos. I would recommend taking the canoe or kayak or send a paddle board to the caves because you can paddle yourself right into the cave.

I agree with others that you should not miss this place if you are in Malta. If you loved the movie and/or Robin Williams himself, or you are with children, this place is a must have for sure. But it's fun even without children, just bring your inner child! Although the village itself is not super huge, there is plenty of things to do! Don't forget to bring your swim dress, as swimming in the lovely bay adds a lot to the experience! But the best thing about this place is the attitude of the staff. You just feel that they love what they do, and they care about providing a very good experience for the visitors. The place is incredibly well maintained, and the regular shows are amazing. It's so refreshing to find a small gem like this with such high quality standards. They definitely deserve your time!

Very pretty place. We came around 4pm so there was not much people and also we had opportunity to watch the sunset from the village and if you go out from village you can go to the mountain across to watch the most beautifully golden sunset ever. Popeya village has different acts with actors that are alive and fun. You get free popcorn with your ticket that you get as you watch the show. Also if you came alone its not a problem for pictures because on every corner there's these phone holders helping you to take your picture. P.s. there's a swing that you can sit and watch the sunset and for best picture set your phone behind you.

I had so much fun! There was a secret chest hunt, and after we found all three clues, we were led to a chest with a lobby inside — that was such a great surprise. The animators were very funny and entertaining. We also had lunch there; the prices were fair, and the food quality was good. We had a couple of drinks as well, and they were quite cheap. We stayed from 1 o’clock until the very end. With every ticket, you get one free popcorn and one free postcard. Overall, it was a great experience!

Very charming and situated around the beautiful blue water. Visited as an adult couple without kids, so didn’t really do any particular activities, but it’s such a nice area to just walk around, especially if you’re interested in films. There is also a beach so you can bring swim-wear. I wouldn’t plan a whole day around it, but it’s worth a visit, and easy to get to like most places in Malta.

Looks lovely, the buildings look like they need a bit of repair. Some of it felt unsafe so we didn't go everywhere. Most were fine. The bay is stunning and urges you to swim in it ...then you see all the garbage floating in it ....bags, bottles , rusty bits... The village itself is pretty and staff are lovely but maybe they could pull the rubbish out of the water...yuck.
Monika F — Google review
Just visited Popeye Village in November. We went mainly to walk around the outside and take pictures. We did not pay the admission to enter. We didn't have our swimsuits or any children with us so figured it wouldn't be worth spending the money. I'm sure a family with kids would love it here. The buildings are unique and I'm glad we came. Even without entering I got some great pictures.
Leila S — Google review
The village looks much better in photos than in real life, it feels so so fake :) And there’s loud music. Overall, there isn’t much to do there, but the beach in the bay is just wooooooooow. We spent the whole day there — no regrets at all P.S. aperol spritz is very tasty and costs only 6.50€ :)

Nature & Parks
Għadira Nature Reserve, nestled on the outskirts of Mellieha and conveniently located near a stunning beach, is a haven for nature lovers and families alike. This picturesque reserve, supported by BirdLife Malta, offers an engaging experience to learn about local wildlife while enjoying short hikes along its well-maintained paths. The trails are particularly suitable for children, making it easy for little adventurers to explore without getting too tired.
Beautiful and peaceful place to enjoy nature and watch the birds. Entrance is free but you can leave a donation. Staff is super friendly, welcoming visitors in Maltese, English or French. They have binoculars that you can use for free.
Emilia C — Google review
Five stars for tranquility of walk. Mostly sounds of birds and no sightings of anything other than beetle, bee, lizard. Still beautiful. Near a bus stop and across the street from a beach, food, water and snacks. Enter up the stairs through the visitors center. Bathroom under the stairs of the visitors center around the corner.
Justice Q — Google review
Very little to see despite us trying really hard. Very few birds on/around lake. Only 2 places (buildings) from which to see the lake, rest is just a bushy path. Puzzles and life cycle games in the entry building were nice. Staff is welcoming, informative and friendly. 2 toilets by the entry building.

I couldn't have found a chameleon but I had only 30 mins. It's great that Malta also has places like these, it should be promoted more.
Jan W — Google review
Knowledgeable and friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, and a great place to spot wildlife. The highlight was seeing a kingfisher hunting on the lake!
Laura C — Google review
Very peaceful haven. We walked around slowly and observed quite a few creatures. Unfortunately at the time we went there were no birds resting however we will go again until we are lucky to be there at the right time.
Jonathan B — Google review
Lots of bird species present when we were there but most were a good distance away. I wish they would put a few bird blinds closer to where the birds are in the mud flats. Still well worth the time.
John G — Google review
Amazing nature reserve, we went specifically to look for chameleons. The park can easily be accessed via bus or car, just be aware of the opening days & hours, can be found on their website. The park is free of charge. We got in at 14:00, immediately when the park opened and it was very quiet. The walking trail is very short, so take your time. In total we spotted four chameleons! Some advice on how to spot them: - Go early to the park when it’s open. We spotted chameleons close to the trail, but when they saw us, some started to move farther away from the trail, making it harder to be spotted by someone else - With regards to above, do not touch the animals or get too close to them. You’ll only scare them off - They can be found on eye level, or higher. We didn’t see any lower or closer to the ground. - Take. Your. Time. After every five steps we stopped to look around a bit. - No need to be very quiet or anything. In fact, the first chameleon we spotted was very close to the entrance, and we only saw it because he was slowly moving away from us due to some noise. (Our kid was whining he wanted some candy. As we found our first chameleon because of him, he did get a lot of candy) Of course, most people actually visit this park for the birds, but that just isn’t my cup of tea to be completely honest.

Bay
Mellieha Bay, also known as Ghadira Bay, is a picturesque destination offering Malta's longest sandy beach and stunning views of the village of Mellieha. The bay is family-friendly and provides various water activities for all ages. With its 800-meter stretch of sand, visitors can enjoy amenities such as beachfront restaurants and opportunities to partake in water sports like water skiing and wind surfing.
Found this beach on Malta too late. Fair price for sunbeds, beautiful and and water. I would have spent several days here had it found it sooner
Kieran O — Google review
Mellieha Bay and its beach are considered one of the best in Malta. However, the area attracts a large number of tourists, and the beach is crowded with sunbeds and umbrellas, situated near a busy road. There is an option to enter the water from the side via a concrete pier with fewer people around. We visited this beach twice in one week. During our first visit, the water near the shore was cloudy due to sand, but it improved a little bit as we went further out. On our second visit, the water was much more see-through and looked significantly better.
Vojtěch Č — Google review
dirty and overcrowded beach. The beach is extremely dirty and poorly maintained. There’s trash everywhere, and it looks like no one has cleaned it in a long time. On top of that, it’s incredibly crowded, making it hard to find any space to relax. The prices are ridiculously high considering the poor conditions and lack of proper facilities. Definitely not worth it.
Iva B — Google review
Beautiful beach, public transport accessible so no need to drive or even take a taxi as public transport in Malta I find to be really good and also cheap.
Jannah W — Google review
Great beach,good good cafes and shop actually on the beach,no public toilets which considering it's one of Malta,s best beaches is well poor. You can use the cafe facilities which are not the best in the world and some charge!;
Abboman — Google review
Absolutely stunning place. Stayed here on my first visit to Malta, and although I don't like to visit the same place twice, I am booked to return. Quiet village, not much in the way of nightlife, but that can easily be had a short taxi ride away in one of the other resorts on the island. As Malta is so small, everything is easily accessible so don't worry about being down in a quieter place. I visited in February, out of season, everything was still open, and it was still 20⁰+ which is hot enough for me to burn but not unbearably hot so was ideal. The beaches were really quiet at this time of year and the locals thought it was freezing, but was perfect for quiet, chilled exploring. The main beach is lovely, with nice fine sand and shallow water - ideal for families with children. There are loads of little coves along the coast though with tiny little pebble beaches which feel very "private" if you find one with no one else around.
Linzzz A — Google review
Lovely views . Great place to relax ,sun bath and swim in the sea . There are plenty of bars and restaurants to eat or drink on the beach front
Chris W — Google review
For those who love fine sand this beach will delight them. The clear shallow water it's great for kids and for those who are not good swimmers. Nice beach, with the possibility of renting the beach furniture and there's plenty of room for your own towel and umbrella.

Shrine
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa has a rich history dating back to the 16th century when it was a small Augustinian monastery. The crypt, originally a natural cave, holds significance as it is believed to have been visited by St Luke and St Paul during their shipwreck on the island. The sanctuary houses splendid marble sculptures of the two apostles among other items.
Beautiful shrine and religious interest. A original painting by St Luke of our Blessed mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ
Stephen R — Google review
Visited Sanctuary of Our Lady on a weekday morning. Places nearby for coffee, snacks and meals. The parish church was closed in Friday late morning and early afternoon with locked doors. Inside the Sanctuary of Our Lady, one is able to view a painting by St. Luke on stone of the Madonna and child. There is also a human relic to the right side of the altar. Behind the door is a wall adorned with multiple personal stories testifying to healing miracles which range from female infertility, childhood sicknesses and deformity to ailing geriatrics. A small gift shop is available for purchase of holy water, holy oil, small statues, tapestry and various trinkets. Prayer requests can be written in a large book inside the gift shop or written on a piece of paper and placed in a large wooden box which is visible immediately upon entry to the Sanctuary. After visiting the Sanctuary on a Friday, I returned for mass on Saturday. Services are held Monday through Saturday at 8:30 am and Sunday at 10 am in English.
Justice Q — Google review
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mellieħa is one of Malta’s most cherished pilgrimage sites, blending deep religious devotion with centuries of history. Carved partly into the rock, the sanctuary houses a revered icon of the Virgin Mary believed to date back to the early Christian period. Its quiet, spiritual atmosphere contrasts beautifully with the scenic views of Mellieħa below. Visitors are often struck by the sense of peace inside, the rich collection of votive offerings, and the artistry of the chapel’s interior — a true reflection of Malta’s enduring faith and heritage.

A majestic temple perched on a hill. The magnificent architecture both outside and in the middle is mesmerising and a sight to behold at any time of the day.
Iryna S — Google review
An impressively located sanctuary with a beautiful view of the bay and the city (sanctuary is also beautifully visible from a distance). The surroundings of the church are well organized and perfectly arranged.
Krzysztof P — Google review
As old as Christianity. Or even older, because according to local tradition, the nymph Calypso was already worshipped in the cave against which the church is built in ancient times. However, with the arrival of Saint Paul in 60 AD, the pagan sanctuary was transformed into a Christian sanctuary. When a church was first built is lost in the mists of time, the current church was built in several phases between the 16th and 18th centuries. The church's altarpiece, a 12th or 13th century Byzantine-style fresco, is said to be miraculous. This is the reason why the church has attracted so many (famous) pilgrims throughout the centuries, and still attracts them today.
Koen — Google review
We went here for Sunday Mass which is at 10 o clock and in English. Its tiny so get there in plenty of time there are chairs in the side alters if all the sits in the main part of the church have been taken.
Eileen T — Google review
It's small, not opulent but atmospheric. Don't miss stopping here at least for a few hours when travelling by bus via Mellieha. There's a small museum here, as well as a collection of votives and a documentation about papal visits. Through a glass floor you may see a crypt with ancient bones.

This relatively new restaurant has quickly become a local favorite, attracting both locals and visitors alike. We came here for lunch before doing a sunset boat tour. The set lunch menu is fantastic value with good choice and great portion sizes. All the food was excellent and the service was great. Sadly it was too hot to sit outside on the terrace with the gorgeous views. Would have loved to come back to experience the sunset on the terrace! Highly recommend

We recently had an amazing dinner at one80, and it exceeded all expectations. The food was absolutely delicious, with portion sizes that leave you satisfied without feeling overly full. The seafood, in particular, stood out — incredibly fresh and full of flavor. Their wine selection is also worth mentioning, offering a great variety to pair perfectly with any meal. What truly set the experience apart was the outstanding service. The staff are professional, kind, and attentive. We were served by Anita, who went above and beyond to make our evening special. She took the time to explain the menu in detail, recommended the best times to return, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the night. Overall, one80 is a fantastic spot for a memorable meal — with excellent food, a welcoming atmosphere, and service that genuinely enhances the experience. Highly recommended!

Well - having read the reviews prior to going on holiday for this restaurant one had to try it out. The restaurant is situated around half-way down the steep hill to the beach from the Pergola Hotel where I was staying. To be honest it didn't look much from the outside, however, the interior was lovely. I was greeted by Anisha on my lunchtime visit and sat inside, which was a good temperature for relaxing. You can sit outside if you are a sun-bunny but I want to enjoy my food not roast on the terrace at lunchtime, but this would be great in evening. This restaurant has a good ambiance, comfortable seating and very relaxing. As it was lunch I was having I didn't want a massive meal. Whilst I was waiting for my fish, warm bread (in a bag), oil and hummus was brought complimentary - and the bread was superb, which I daubed with humus and devoured. I had a glass of Gavi which was excellent - so many wines, are, to put it bluntly, rubbish, but this glass of wine hit the spot and went down very well. It complimented the lunch I was to have. I'd ordered Wild Sea Bass which was on a bed of broccoli and some sort of mash but wasn't mash, with salad. This dish was divine, OMG the fish was awesome, so was the mash thing with a lovely salad. For dessert I had something that I've never seen anywhere outside Italy, and that was Affogalo. This is Vanilla ice-cream (a decent one) topped with Espresso Coffee and an Italian bicy. The sweetness of the ice-cream was offset by the slightly bitter coffee. It was wonderful - took me back to my many visits to Italy. I was told that the proprietor of this Restaurant was actually Italian - so no surprise there with the gorgeous food. I had a latte as well and it was pretty much like any other latte - not exception but good. Raj and Anisha were wonderful members of staff that made sure I was comfortable and made my visit extremely pleasant. The meal was sensibly priced and well worth the money. I turned up in shorts and t-shirt as I'd been at the beach. At lunchtimes, I think you can get away with this. Probably during the day and early evening dress can be casual, however, I feel this restaurant is a fine place to dress up for a great dining experience in the evening. So a big thank you to this restaurant for a very lovely lunch and you deserve the 5 stars I've given 100%.

Best place we’ve eaten in Malta yet! They have a delicious plant based / vegan section. My husband got the burger and I got the risotto + tempura onions. I highly recommend stopping by. Also the ‘style it takes’ cocktail is amazing. Anita our server was also extremely friendly and super quick with our service. I will definitely return if I have time.

Atmosphere, service, food, drinks — everything was simply gorgeous! 💫 If you’re into seafood, Maltese flavours, and good vibes — this place is a must-try. And a little tip: skip the dessert and go straight for the after-dinner cocktails instead — they’re absolutely divine and the perfect way to end the evening. 🍸🦞☀️

The drinks were fantastic, and the atmosphere was vibrant yet comfortable, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy. I left with such a happy heart and unforgettable memories. Commando Restaurant is situated in Mellieha, a charming Maltese village, and is housed in a beautifully converted old building. The restaurant has retained much of its original character and offers a stunning setting with elegantly laid tables. It is nestled within a tastefully-restored 300-year-old building and boasts a proud culinary tradition dating back to the wartime 1930s.
We had a really lovely evening at the Commando. The service was a top notch and the food was fascinating! It was my first time trying the duck breast and couldn’t be more pleased! the risotto was beautifully made.
Abdulhadi S — Google review
Overall good. But please stop putting the hot tortellini on top of the raw beef tartare - it cooks the beef on the surface and beats the purpose of having a tartare. You’re using good fresh ingredients but the construction of the dish is not thought through. Work on the seasoning as most dishes were lacking it - and flavour!
Adrian M — Google review
Was not expecting what turned out to be a gastronomical adventure! The chef himself spoke with us and gave his opinions and were well founded. The combination of the flavours were nothing short of artistry, the service was knowledgeable andattentive without being overbearing. Wine selection was on par with the food, highly recommend!

It was a pleasant surprise to see dedicated vegan options listed on the wall menu as we walked past the restaurant, especially since Google doesn’t indicate that they offer a vegan menu. We made a same-day reservation. Staff serving us were very courteous and cordial. We shared two vegan dishes. Both were enjoyable, though not particularly exceptional.

Fine restaurant, nice service. Nice presentation of food. We had scallops - excellent Duck breast - delicious But our Tuna is too salty, not sure is it normal so we didn't complain, just ate them but it not so nice. Dessert - dark chocolate tart - it's delicious

Our dinner at Commando was quite the experience! We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and stellar service. If you have the opportunity to try this place out, you should definitely do it to give yourself a fine dining experience.

We found this spot through the Michelin Guide recommendation, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The duck — mentioned in almost every review — truly deserves the praise. 🦆✨ I went for the fish, which unfortunately wasn’t the best choice that evening — a bit underwhelming, but nothing critical. Still, the atmosphere was lovely, the service attentive, and overall it’s absolutely worth visiting.

We’re so please we heard about this wonderful restaurant where we had their Tasting menu with the classic wine pairing. Each of the dishes were delicious and perfectly balanced, and the wine pairing for each was delightful. We’d highly recommend both the restaurant and taster menu if in area.

I am so glad that I found this place, the food was amazing, the wine suggestion was very nice. We went a la carte, as we didn't want to go with the fish tartare or the goats cheese, but the menu certainly didn't disappoint at all. I would be happy to return, to experience more!

Had a lovely evening here. The restaurant is beautiful. The food was very good. Amuse bouche was delicious. My agnolotti starter was amazing. My husband had the special-sashimi and he said it was great! I had the beef as my main-it was ok. I felt it was lacking in flavour-wasn’t very impressive at all. My husband had the veal and really enjoyed it. Desserts were amazing! Overall pretty good.

The food was delicious and you can see why they got a michelin star. It's a gourmet experience. Although better don't expect to be full, as the quantities are rather small (kinda as expected). The service was very attentive and the atmosphere in the restaurant relaxed.

The whole experience felt special from start to finish. Highly recommend!

Cannot fault the food, it lived up the the expectations and was absolutely delicious! One server could have been a bit more friendly and welcoming. We almost felt he did not value us as we were not having the tasting menu. It is expensive but for a treat when in Mellieha is worth it.

Our best meal in Malta. Everything from the food, service, setting, music and wines were spectacular. Had the tasting menu which was great value, paid the supplement for beef and lobster pasta. Chef Andrew came out to speak to us and clearly cares about his craft and his product. He also gave us some other recommendations for the island restaurants. The sommelier was a real character and great fun to chat to. The caviar dish and beef were the stand out favourites.

Wonderful tasting menu with impeccable service. Restaurant is tucked away so pleased our taxi driver had his sat nav on! Tasting menu had a lot of fish so really enjoyed it especially the fresh fish tartar. Cosy atmosphere inside but there is seating in courtyard if not windy. Great wine selection and we had an Austrian white which was very good. Chef came out for a chat at the end of the meal which was appreciated 👏 2 waiters were a credit to the restaurant. Can I have recipe for parmesan gougere please as I could eat them every day 😍

The restaurant offers a seasonal American menu with influences from global traditions and local ingredients, some of which are sourced from their rooftop garden. It provides both indoor and outdoor seating areas, creating the perfect ambiance to savor their cuisine. Additionally, it is wheelchair accessible, catering to individuals with special needs.
Visited for an early dinner last Sunday. Simply outstanding! Great and attentive service with delicious food. We were craving a nice plate of pasta and this place simply delivered. Unfortunately it is getting hard to find the simple authentic Italian pastas like cacio e pepe and pesto in Malta, but this place had and was amazing. Great brischetta and dessert too. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic service and really tasty food. Very accommodating to our family of 5 (three boys 16,12 and 5). We ate here twice and both times the food was top notch. Chefs are there in the restaurant cooking so you can see your food prepared first hand. Two older boys had muscles the first visit and they absolutely loved them the wife’s seafood linguine was fantastic. Calamari frites were so tender and crisp. Highly recommend.

After a long day, we decided to have dinner, and the Solana reception recommended Restaurant Tosca. It turned out to be exactly what we were looking for — a delicious Italian meal. The bruschetta and carbonara were both extremely tasty, prepared with fresh ingredients and great flavors. The service was welcoming and attentive, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Highly recommend if you’re looking for authentic Italian food in the area! Update: I returned a second time, all good.

Nice Italian restaurant with great pizzas! We picked a margherita and a cappriciosa, efficient and tasty. Not an insane location with the main road nearby but it’s ok.

The menu is straightforward and easy to navigate, offering only a limited selection of dishes. However, the food they serve is of good quality and definitely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service can be quite slow, which requires some patience. On the positive side, the staff is very friendly and welcoming, making the overall experience pleasant despite the waiting time.

A fantastic experience! Exquisite dinner, extremely great service! Our first time at Tosca! Won't be the last! Well worth the drive from the other end of the island. The value for money is next to none. Keep up the standards! We will come often!

Mediterranean restaurant
This popular Mediterranean restaurant is located directly on Golden Bay Beach and offers excellent food and services. The restaurant's gluten free options and vegetarian-friendly status make it a great choice for anyone with dietary restrictions. With stunning views of the ocean, Munchies Mellieha Bay is a popular spot for lunch or dinner.
We stopped here for lunch after Googling a good seafood restaurant. This place didn't disappoint; the waiters were friendly and polite, and the food was delicious. We had sauteed muscles for our starters and mixed seafood risotto for the mains. While our daughter has the kid's pasta 🍝, which she loved.

We visited Munchies Mellieha Bay and were very impressed! 🍽️ The food was delicious and well-prepared – especially the seafood dishes, which are definitely worth trying. The menu offers a wide variety, suitable for both lunch and dinner. The service was quick and polite – the staff was friendly and welcoming, even though the place was quite busy. The atmosphere is amazing – the view over the bay is peaceful and relaxing, making it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal by the sea. 🌊 Highly recommended for anyone looking for a nice restaurant with a beautiful view in Mellieha. We’ll definitely come back!

We had a wonderful dining experience here! The food was absolutely delicious — the fried calamari was crispy and flavorful, perfectly paired with fresh lemon and dipping sauce, and the pasta was rich and cooked to perfection. The view of the sea made it even more special, a perfect setting for a relaxing meal. A special thank you to our waitress, Alexandra, who was exceptional throughout. She was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was just right. Her service truly elevated the whole experience. Highly recommend both the restaurant and Alexandra’s wonderful service — we’ll definitely be back!

A surprisingly decent restaurant with reasonable prices right at the beach. Perfect for a lunch on a beach day. A lot of space to seat in the shadow with a beautiful view of the sea. The service was friendly but slow and chaotic. The food and drinks though were great. The restrooms are in a sad state (it they’re is available for beach visitors from the other side of the restaurant also). Would be nice to have them better upkept.

Great food, great view and great location. Not cheap but worth the spend. Some room for improvement but overall very good and fresh.

Munchies Bar is a typical beachside restaurant in Mellieħa. The food and drinks are okay – nothing special, but fine if you’re already at the beach. It’s convenient for the location, though not a place you’d go out of your way for.

Munchies Mellieha Bay delivered a delightful hour of entertainment paired with satisfying food. The portions were generous, perfect for enjoying alongside the restaurant's breathtaking Mediterranean views. The casual atmosphere made it easy to relax and soak in the scenery. While the food was simple, it complemented the stunning backdrop. A great spot for a quick, scenic meal and a pleasant break. Ideal for those wanting to enjoy Malta's beauty without sacrificing a tasty bite.

We went with a group of 20 people and they easily accommodated. The food was great. While I did not get to try the Seafood Linguini it looked amazing. The portion sizes were almost overwhelming but I like a challenge. The service was great and the seaside view was spectacular.
