Bonifacio

Bonifacio is a town on the southern tip of the French island of Corsica. It’s known for its lively marina and medieval clifftop citadel. The 13th-century Bastion de l’Etendard houses a small museum with exhibits on the town’s history. L’Escalier du Roi d’Aragon is 187 ancient steps carved into the cliff face. To the southeast, the uninhabited Lavezzi Islands, a nature reserve, have granite boulders and sandy beaches.

Outdoor Activities
Palombaggia is a stunning beach located in the southeast of Corsica, known for its clear waters and white sand. The area offers various water activities such as diving, jet skiing, and sailing sports. It serves as an ideal starting point for excursions and cruises to nearby beaches like Cerbicales Islands and Bay of Santa Giula.
This beach is pretty hyped up around here, but to be honest, it didn't really blow us away. You'll definitely find at least four bars and restaurants nearby, so there's no shortage of places to grab a bite or a drink. The beach itself varies in width along its stretch, so whether you're looking for a cozy spot or a wider area to lay out a bit further from the water, you’ve got options. If you're just in the mood for a quick beer, a drink, or maybe some ice cream for the kids, I'd really recommend hitting up the smaller stands tucked away near the trees close to the big hotels or standalone restaurants. Prices there are seriously like half of what you’d pay at the bigger spots.

Beautiful clean water, with some parts more crowded than others. Parking for free is tricky, better either choose a beachclub if you plan to eat anyways (parking fees will be deducted), or there are large cheap parkings at the north eastern end.
Miklos N — Google review
A must see in the south of Corsica. When we went it was raining but the sea water was still warm. Easy access, cheap parking and lovely bar on the beach. Overall a great beach.
Ines R — Google review
Best plage 🏝️👌 If you come to the south of Corsica, be sure to go to this beach
Luka L — Google review
Great beach, turquoise water and it was not crowded but parking is ridiculously expensive, 35 eur for 5 hours on the beach or in best case 11.20 eur for 4 hours. And then you have to walk 600 meters downhill and coming back to the car is a real training. There is one bar and one restaurant with prices for Space tourism
Balkan R — Google review
I went there very much at the end of the season. No problem parking plenty of place on the beach. Temperature was perfect for me. Could still get a drink. I appreciate others may have different experiences if they go in July or August but has to be one of the most stunning beaches in France.
James B — Google review
Amazing place with great food, drinks, music and breathtaking water
Ben — Google review
Wonderful sand beach with convenient parking. Came at around 11 in the morning and it was not a problem to park car in the shade of pine trees. And parking is free! Beach itself goes alongside, walk further and it will not be crowded at all. Crystal clear and shallow water, stones to make insta pics, bars everything is there! The best beach for us visited in Corsica! Recommended!!!

The Escalier du Roy d'Aragon is a steep and narrow rock staircase that leads down to the sea, providing unique views of the water and boats. It consists of 187 steps and dates back to medieval times, leading to a freshwater well. Nearby, visitors can explore the Cimetiere des Marins, a walled cemetery with elaborately decorated tombs.
We visited in the end of August. It wasn't too crowded and the views are great. 5€ per person was worth it in my opinion.
Urška R — Google review
When you visit Bonifacio, it's worth to take the tour of the stairs. Nice to see, but not spectacular. It's a steep descent, followed of course by an equally steep ascent. Good workout!

Classic Christine 5/5 A workout, paired with history, and amazing views sign me up 😗 Added bonus, a cute helmet accessory. These 189 steps were built in the 1400s so Corsicans could escape if any funny business arose back then because frankly that’s all there was to do, was try to conquer your neighbors island so why not build 189 staircase insurance policy. If my screen time were 0 hours I would do the same. My only advice, go as early as possible to avoid people panting behind you to go faster. Like hello, what happened to living in the moment as we role play fleeing the island? Anyway, it’s amazing and only €5, plus a great way to justify a Spritz afterwards. Don’t wear a fishnet shirt like I did, I was schvitzing although I did look cutesy (see attached photos) so maybe it was worth it… Follow Classic Christine for more tips ;)

Very steep 189 steps dug by hand into the cliff face. We went in August. It was very crowded and very hot. We saw a few people really struggling so take care , go early on the morning

Bastion de l'Etendard is a section of the fortress in Corsica where visitors can explore underground fortifications and immerse themselves in the city's history. The Bastion de l'Etendard Museum provides a deeper understanding of the architecture and remarkable features. The climb to the citadel offers stunning views of the town and the Mediterranean, making it a must-visit spot in Corsica. It's recommended to visit during sunset for an even more breathtaking experience.
Wonderful place to visit in Bonifacio not just for its historical significance but also for the wonderful views from it.
Nigel M — Google review
Impressive views you can see from most places around Bonifacio but interesting to learn about the history, a few things for the kids to interact with to keep them interested. Rude girl eating her lunch on reception particularly unhelpful.
WILLIAM B — Google review
ww bought combined ticket for bastion and aragon staircase. The bastion is not really worth it, nothing interesting to see, only the view from the top. But the view is available also from outside the bastion.

Beach Rondinara is a picturesque destination that attracts visitors with its opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, picnicking, and dining at a waterfront restaurant. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Corsica, known for its clam shell-shaped bay flanked by rocky promontories. The beach offers calm and clear turquoise waters ideal for various activities.
Amazing places, you might also bump into cows and bulls. We stayed there one day more just to enjoy the beach more! Highly recommended
Martina F — Google review
In general, the beach is just a short distance from Porto Vecchio – about a 30-minute drive from the town center. Parking during the high season, or even shortly after, can be more difficult. We parked around 10 AM without any issues (early September). There are only a few sunbeds available for rent, so we definitely recommend bringing your own umbrella. There's also a bar and a restaurant, and for those interested, there's a volleyball court as well. We enjoyed our time here and we recommend this place 😊
Richard R — Google review
The most beautiful beach here around with an excellent parking price and location. Just be careful for cows around the pine trees :)
Anja P — Google review
Long round beach. Parking is reasonable (£6 per day) and well organised. Walk past the first rocks to avoid the crowded portion. Clear clean water. Restraunts can be busy - queue they open
Adrian W — Google review
The parking lot costs 6€ a day, and its totally worth it: the beach amazing and family friendly. On the day of the video there were way too much algs, hence the greenish water color. Still, great to swimming, dive and enjoy.
Felipe — Google review
Beautiful beach, our personal favourite in Corsica. Great for snorkelling and swimming.
Rob D — Google review
Gorgeous sandy beach with clear blue water. Great for swimming and a bit of snorkeling. Parking near by, currently 6 euros for the day with plenty of spaces. Gets really busy in the summer, less so off season. Has a decent place to eat next to it.

Most beautiful beach I have seen on Corsica. It has almost no waves and the water is quite shallow so you can walk quite some time until it gets deep 😁 perfect for children 😊

Beaches
Santa Giulia Beach is a popular swimming spot located in a bay with clear, shallow waters and pristine white sand. The beach is adorned with huge red granite rocks and offers easy access, making it perfect for families. Surrounded by lush countryside, the translucent waters are calm and ideal for children to swim. Additionally, the nearby treeline provides plenty of shade.
NOT THE ONE AND ONLY, but definitely ONE OF THE BEST. Why? Heaven on earth, just too many people. Other than that, simply stunning ❤️ Powdery white sandy beaches with crystal clear water like in the best Caribbean places in the world. There is everything available for entertainment that you could think of, from bars, to beach clubs, to restaurants and hotels to gadgets of any kind. COME EARLY to get a good spot on the beach. Beach clubs are between 35-60 per person and mostly fully booked with waiting lists. SNORKELING is just great there. The water is safe and mostly shallow. We spotted a ton of fish from small to medium, starfishes, and even various STINGRAYS. a dream come true for anyone with kids. PARKING is easy if you go to a beach club. Otherwise use dedicated private parking for EUR 8.-, which is fair for a spot in high demand like this one. There is a ton of things more to say, however better just try for yourself or put in a question as a comment. Have fun.
Alexander F — Google review
Absolutely stunning beach , the water is crystal clear and the backdrop of tees around the bay is glorious. Some fabulous beaches bars too. We recommend La Plage and Le Fort. The downside is it gets super busy in peak season. If you have to go in August go early morning, if you are lucky enough to go late September, you will be in paradise !
Lyndele F — Google review
Lovely beach, but very crowded and the parking costs 20€ 🤨. Also some places full of seagrass. But water is clean, no big waves.
Alesia G — Google review
A bit crowded, but nice water and actual sand. I don't like jetskies or parasailing, makes the natural experience bad. I liked the good bars on the beach to have lunch.
Arne Z — Google review
The beach consists of a long narrow strip of fine clean sand (between 10m and 30m in width), skirting a bay of very shallow clear water which extends at least 50 m from the shoreline. The setting is hardly spectacular but the peninsula making up the South side of the bay provides a pretty backdrop. On a fine sunny weekday afternoon towards the end of September the beach was busy, but not oppressively so. All the usual water sports/activities were available and the beach is also a drop-off/pick-up point for cruises along the coast. Various bars - none very special - are dotted along the central part of the beach, closest to the parking areas. Was it quiet or romantic : no, would it be a fine place for small children to paddle in the water : emphatically yes. In line with the reports from other reviewers, I can easily imagine that it would be an absolute zoo in July and August.
Simon B — Google review
Great beach in the south of Corsica. Very overrated in my opinion. Very expensive ar park, flat rate 10 pounds. A lot of bars on the beach which kind of ruins the experience. It can be quite crowded as well. Clean water lovely views. Great for kids.
Ines R — Google review
Stunning beach and surroundings, very clean and transparent water. Many options for water activities. Plenty of restaurants
Natalia K — Google review
We were here 2 weeks ago, not over impressed, it what to busy and the sea wasn’t as clear as many people had described. If I’m honest I was a little bit disappointed

Le Centre Nautique stands out from other restaurants in the marina as it is located on the opposite side of the shore, offering a panoramic view of Bonifacio. This restaurant specializes in Mediterranean cuisine featuring fresh fish and seafood. Guests praise the friendly service, perfect hospitality, and delicious food. Situated waterfront, just across from the citadel, Le Centre Nautique provides a delightful array of Mediterranean gastronomy.
Wonderful and elegant hotel to stay in or enjoy a drink on the port. A great alternative to the busy and touristy port side across the water. The staff is welcoming and very helpful. The coffee and drinks were delicious. Our room was huge and designed in a thoughtful, modern way with all the in room amenities you could need. Staff was always around and ready to help with anything we needed!
Abbey G — Google review
It's my last time going there . The staff was ok. There were 2 dining tables including ours . We pretty much all arrived at the same time . The first table of 4 people got served first and they were about to finish their dessert and coffee while we were still waiting for our food . We need to beg to have bread while waiting for your meals... The kids were starving. 2 other groups of people including staff friends got after us and got served before us of course ! The singer kept singing loudly impossible to have a conversation among each other. What a terrible experience! And it was extremely pricy for the quality of the food and the service . Avoid this place !
Bella M — Google review
I rarely leave negative reviews however the waiter did ask us to leave a review prior to us leaving the restaurant. When we arrived the waiters seemed friendly and attentive. We promptly ordered drinks and food. This is where things took a turn - It took over an hour for them to bring our starters (cheese plate and 1 serving of their tuna tartar) In the time that we sat and ordered till the time we got our food, another table, which arrived 20 minutes after we did, had already finished their starters. During this time not one person came to check on us. Throughout the dining experience we mostly sat with empty glasses and an empty table. We were there for over 2 hours and not once did anyone ask us if we needed another drink. The mediocre food and the below average service is not worth the price or the amount of time you will waste while waiting. I recommend Da Passano if you’re looking for a great dining experience with unique and inspiring food.

(Translated by Google) The restaurant is located on the opposite side of the harbor, making for a quiet location—far from the tourist crowds. The tables aren't crowded, and the ambiance is very pleasant and inviting. The service was attentive and very professional. About the food: The starter, pasta with fruit from the sea, was flavored with Thai basil—a bit unusual, but very tasty. For my main course, I had grilled calamari and a fish fillet with potatoes. Both were very good, although the fish was a bit overcooked—which can easily happen with fish. The dessert, a fruit pavlova, was a bit disappointing for me, as it was more like meringues with lots of cream and fruit, rather than a classic pavlova. Overall, however, the food was very good and the atmosphere extremely pleasant. I will definitely go again.

The restaurant offers an old-world atmosphere with white tablecloths and professional staff. Guests have praised the warm welcome from the owner and the fresh fish recommendations.

Lovely family restaurant with superb food and wine . Very authentic and delicious, will definitely return. We had a few appetizers and the trio main stood out for its flavors.

We had two meals there when we were in Corsica. The first one was amazing and the second one we had the worst service I’ve had in a long time. Our second bottle of wine never came, the waitress picked a fish for us. That was twice what we needed so the price was enormous, and we were basically ignored when we when we needed water or anything additional
Jill M — Google review
The lamb was top notch and so was the dessert. I loved that they served it drinks with glass, reusable straws. It was a relaxed service and the walk back to our hotel was just the right length to let our meal settle.

Charming is how to describe this place. Bonifacio is a stunning location, but quite frankly very touristy and I was quite disappointed with the town itself. This place is smack in the middle of the tourist area and couldn’t be more of a contrast. Very welcoming staff excellent wine by the glass, you’re not going to see MasterChef type cooking here but typical Corsican food. Good fish soup, and pastas.
James B — Google review
Don’t be misled by other reviews talking about amazing food here — in my opinion, the food is just average and definitely not worth the prices you pay. You can have better dishes at an average restaurant and pay less. Portions are small, the dishes are mediocre, and some of the waiters are very rude. So adjust your expectations accordingly.
Gozde P — Google review
The BEST food in Bonifacio! Owners very proud of their establishment treating you in the utmost professional way. Everything perfect from beginning to end.

Aubergine and ravioli starters to die for (although it’s a bit heavy on the garlic). We had a big fish as a main and that was also unbelievable. Nice family atmosphere, Sardinian waiter is super friendly. Prices are similar to high end places in the area. If you have one meal in Bonifacio, it has to be Stella d’Oro! Best meal of our stay in Corsica.

U Castillé is a restaurant located in Bonifacio, offering a unique dining experience with its narrow balcony overlooking the sea and providing stunning views of the Corsican coastline and Sardinia. The restaurant is known for its authentic cuisine, generous portions, and friendly service. Visitors can enjoy affordable pizzas as well as seafood, lamb dishes, and gluten-free options like chestnut cake. The atmosphere exudes medieval village charm, making it a must-visit for those seeking an authentic dining experience.
We shared the salade au Chevre Chaud and the figatellu pizza. Both were fresh and delicious. I loved the pichet of wine, this is becoming increasingly rare in French restaurants and it was good wine at a great value. Service was quick and friendly as well.

This is 5/5 Classic Christine ✨ If you enjoy life changing food, paired with a cracking view of the Med (which typically don’t go hand in hand) then this is your place. We were ready, no drooling, for food with more diversity than Sardinia (aka a pizza hiatus), so we were excited when we stumbled upon this absolute gem. Arrive before 11 to get a table on the water, and add in a little charm to ask for the tiny dining room. This is best for a bottle of white wine and a long lunch. I ordered the Sea Bream, my (new) husband ordered the steak…find someone who looks at you the way JD looks at said steak 🥩 😍. I know what you’re thinking, that’s a heavy lunch. Just trust the process and your life will be changed by this divine food. Why long lunch and not dinner? The view is impeccable for lunch, as the sun pours in. We started with the burrata, peach salad which was the type of starter that you take a bite and close your eyes because it’s DELISH. We capped off with an espresso and a big grazie millle to our wonderful server who gently guided our choices for this delicious meal. One of the best we had in Corsica and relatively inexpensive, what could be better 🤌🏼👏🏼 Follow me on Classic Christine for more 5/5s baby!

100% AMAZING DO NOT MISS!! If authentic food and atmosphere is what you love about mid evil villages, then this place is a must. We had lamb and prawns and the goat cheese salad and all 3 were to die for. Quite possibly the best meal I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot because I’m a well travelled foodie for sure! The atmosphere is authentic and quaint making the place seem small and personalized. We loved the entire experience enough to return the following day for lunch. Prices and reasonable For the value and generous portion size.

We got a table on the small balcony with scenic view on the ocean. Not much space to sit but the food and service was very good. Prices were really decent, we paid 50€ for 2x mussels, 2x drinks, 2x coffee ans they serve free water.

Had a dinner for 4 there in a beautiful small dining room with an open window out to sea. Our server was probably the rudest waiter I have ever encountered. Right from the start during the ordering process he was rude and angry. Was also rude to the other tables around us. Had to beg my fellow diners to stay and not walk out. Food was mixed, mussel over cooked but pasta was tasty.

Da Passano in Bonifacio Corsica. Located in the heart of Bonifacio's marina, this Michelin listed restaurant and wine bar offers traditional Corsican fare with a modern twist. The food is served in Tapas style small plates. However, not every culinary idea works. And the menu is only in French!

A very interesting location, but too noisy. The pedestrian traffic somewhat disturbs the beautiful view. The food was very good, but we weren't happy with the pasta, which was left with a sauce that was too thin and not very salty. Otherwise, not bad.

Complicated menu, in addition to that they didn’t have any English menus. Surprising, in a place with so many international visitors! Food was very good, as well as service. However 1 toilet (men’s and lady’s) for a restaurant with 200 seats is just not acceptable!! Sorry!! To stay in a toilet queue at such a fine place is just uncomfortable and disappointing.

Good restaurant at the harbor in Bonifacio, the particularity of it is that you choose a few dishes (4 to 5 for two people) to share, and these are the served not all together but one after the other with a small pause so that they do not get cold (or hot depending on your choice). Really good wine selection, the house wine is pretty good. Kind staff.

Dining at Restaurant Au Jardin d'A Cheda is an experience that transports you to a realm of culinary delight. Situated within the charming confines of one of Bonifacio's premier luxury hotels, this gourmet haven showcases dishes crafted with fresh herbs from its own garden. Wow. Words can’t even describe the meal that we had here. After recommendation from the sommelier, we went with the “Chef’s surprise menu” which was truly out of this world. From the presentation, to the complexity of flavors, to the perfect pairing of wine- every taste bud was very pleasantly surprised. We’ve been to multiple 2 star Michelin restaurants that have not performed to this level - these guys highly deserve a star!! Not to mention the impeccable service and beautiful, peaceful atmosphere. It truly was a memorable night that we won’t forget. We recommend this restaurant (and hotel for that matter) with the highest regard to anyone in Bonifacio!!

The service is also perfect. The prestigious wine pairing is a treat. Overall we will be back. We had a superb evening. Thank you! Merci !

(Translated by Google) Gourmet restaurant, with a tasting menu for over €200 per person (wine included). Excellent free chauffeur-driven transportation from the port of Bonifacio. Very charming and refined atmosphere. But it's unacceptable that a family with a newborn was dining at the table next to ours, with the man wearing Bermuda shorts and slippers. Furthermore, despite there being no more than 30 guests, the staff was insufficient: I had to ask for bread four times, water twice, and the red wine arrived after we had finished the meat course. Then I had to go inside to ask for the bill, after repeatedly asking in the dining room. The food was really good, except for the desserts, which I wasn't thrilled with, and the bread, which wasn't the freshest and warmest. To make up for the poor service, they offered us two glasses of champagne. Great culinary potential, but you can't leave guests without bread and water when you're charging €200 per person! Three stars of encouragement. Tre stelle d'incoraggiamento.
