Arrecife

Arrecife is a port city on the east coast of Lanzarote, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. In the old quarter, the 17th-century San Ginés Church has a bell tower and a Mudéjar-style ceiling. The Agustín De La Hoz mansion now houses a cultural center. Playa del Reducto beach has golden sand and calm waters. The International Museum of Contemporary Art displays abstract works in San José Castle, an 18th-century fortress.

Bodies of Water
Charco de San Ginés is an urban harbor and lagoon in Arrecife, Lanzarote, surrounded by cottages, cafes, and a promenade. The area is filled with fishing boats and offers a picturesque setting for visitors to enjoy. Nearby attractions include the Lanzarote Aquarium, Caleton Blanco Beach, AQUAPARK Costa Teguise Waterpark, Playa Dorada Beach, and Bodegas El Grifo Wine Tour.
My favourite place in Arrecife for a walk, or to sit in the sun and watch the tidal lake fill up. Decent selection of bars and restaurants around the side, varying quality and prices so do consider the menu etc before committing.
Sarah M — Google review
A lovely area in Arrecife. A tidal lagoon with a walkway all the way around and lots of nice eateries. Just a short walk from the shopping areas and the main water front.
Giles K — Google review
Lots of bars and restaurants around the lake. Lovely place to eat
Laurence A — Google review
Food was amazing and the ambience so tranquil.

Nice place with restaurant and bars nearby
Ines F — Google review
Nice walking area, around a lagoon, for me the most pleasant spot of Arrecife. As a bonus, it has become a bit of a gastronomic area as well. Around here you’ll find some of the best eating spots in town (together with less enthusing ones).

Beautiful place to have a bite to eat and people watch

Great Tapas places on the sunny side, cool restaurants in the shade. My favourite tapas is recognised best by the wooden trays they use to show their menus - terrific Serrano and Cheeses box, Lanzarote tomato salad brilliant, Russian salad is huge and very good, I love their beef meatballs with fried potatoes- shareable if your not greedy Fun wines, gents loo tight for fatties, ladies capacious All female crew, very helpful and charming.

Fortress
Located on the tiny island of Islote de los Ingleses, Castillo de San Gabriel is a 16th-century stone fortress with a rich history. It replaced a wooden fortress that was destroyed by Berber pirates and played a crucial role in protecting the harbor and town. The castle, declared a National Historic Monument in 1972, now houses a small museum and offers magnificent views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean.
Beautiful old castle with drawbridge on way out to it. It's a pity that they don't put the history in multiple languages or have headphones to use. It really is an interesting place but we lost Google translate as we got deeper into the castle. It's in an amazing setting. And it's free entry.
Mary K — Google review
Donation recommendation on entry, few small rooms (no English translation) of exhibits. Nice roof space with views. Worth a look , half hour maximum.
Nick F — Google review
Very interesting exhibit of the history of the Castillo. No entrance fee although voluntary donation encouraged. The guide at the entrance was able to give some history on English which was much appreciated but all the exhibits were in Spanish only otherwise 5 stars.
David M — Google review
About a 30 minute walk one-way from the cruise port (unfortunately one long final stretch over a bumpy volcanic stone walkway would be very difficult for standard wheelchairs). This FREE entry old fort houses a cute little history museum, as well as lovely water and city views from the roof. Definitely not wheelchair accessible on the inside and low ceiling (below 6 feet) in most passageways. It is a very small space and can be visited in about 25-30 minutes, and they limit the number of people inside so there may be a small queue that goes quickly. As all the signs and museum information inside are Spanish, so the entry officer kindly gave us a nice overview of the rooms in English. No particular mind blowing relics but there is a mummy and some costumes and pottery. Overall it made for a nice walk and happy that the city is investing in maintaining this piece of history and making it available to visitor for FREE.
Jason Z — Google review
The area was busy even for November, it was a beautiful bright day so tourists were out in force. The surrounding area is lovely and gave me a chance to take photographs of both the architecture and the local water borne activities. The walkways to the castle are made of brick and is sometimes uneven so wheelchairs will be shaken badly. I have mobility issues but coped with the pathways and there is a ramp at the castle at the side of the stairs. We chose not to enter the small castle (fort) as the queue was long though moved fairly quickly but we had other things to do. We took a separate path back over what appeared to be a drawbridge and the view were stunning. Update… we went back and took the tour/walk through the museum. Free entry but donations welcome. It was a nice 1/2 hour walk around.
North F — Google review
We only walked around the outside of the castle so can't really comment on the museum inside. Picturesque walk up to it with a couple of cannons positioned outside. Nice views out to see and around the bay so a pleasant walking route if nothing else.
Fraser B — Google review
We were in Lisbon for 6 days before joking an NCL cruise. We walked all over the city center as there are many things to see. One was this old fort built on rocks in the water. There is now a long bridge from the mainland is easy to get there but beware, the cobble stone walkway is rather rough. Not much to the castle but some nice cannons in front and beautiful views of the city all around.
THE E — Google review
Was walking past and decided to call in for a look around. Add to wait a while has they explained everything to the couple in front who we think was German. Everything inside is in Spanish, so they offer to do a brief explanation of the layout etc in a few languages including English. Would have preferred either a booklet or headphones talking in different languages as it was quite a lengthy wait and we saw some people walk away, due to this.

Museums
Located in a fortified 18th-century castle, the Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo, MIAC, Castillo de San José showcases a diverse collection of contemporary art. The museum houses valuable works from the 20th century by renowned artists such as Picasso, Miro, Chillida, and Tapies. Visitors can explore significant buildings in the surrounding streets of Arrecife, including the Agustin de la Hoz Municipal Arts Centre and Casa de Los Arroyo.
A wonderful place to visit. A very creative use of a 300 year old fort. The highlight for us was the restaurant/bar space and the end of the tour. This has a spectacular picture window running right across the building with amazing views of Arrecife harbour/docks .
Roger M — Google review
As a big fan of modern art, I was a bit disappointed with the amount of it, which was not much at all. Hardly an art gallery at all. The best part was actually the cafe with nice staff and tasty food. Unfortunately the view is mostly showing an ugly industrial container port. Not worth it unless it’s within the walking distance from where you are.
Radosław O — Google review
Simple, well done modern art gallery with a fabulous restaurant attached. Quiet and with super port views. Some excellent art.
Stephen O — Google review
Small nice museum of local and international contemporary art. The location is very suggestive, especially the bar at the lower floor. The low entrance fee (5euro) is worth it, nice way to spend an hour in Arrecife.
Sofia C — Google review
The Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo (MIAC), located within the 16th-century Castillo de San José, is a modest but historically rich cultural stop. While I personally found the museum's contemporary art collection to be rather limited and of minimal relevance to my taste, the real highlight for me was the castle itself—an impressively preserved coastal fortification that speaks of Lanzarote’s defensive past. What truly elevates the experience is the restaurant and bar area, which, as I understand, was designed by the visionary César Manrique. The integration of architecture, light, and views is quintessentially Manrique: elegant, organic, and deeply connected to the natural surroundings. One of the most memorable elements—and perhaps a hidden gem—is the restroom design. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean, the bathrooms are unexpectedly breathtaking, offering a surprising moment of serenity and beauty. A small but delightful detail I appreciated were the royal crown-shaped door handles scattered throughout the interior—clever, regal touches that add character and charm. Overall, while the museum may not be a must-see for contemporary art enthusiasts expecting a comprehensive collection, it is absolutely worth visiting for the ambience, architecture, and the harmonious blend of history and design. I recommend stopping by for a relaxed drink or meal at the restaurant while enjoying the sea views from one of Lanzarote’s most iconic historic spaces.
Q G — Google review
Small museums that has a very limited art exhibition that doesn’t justify the price. The staff was very kind and helpful The restaurant cafe has a nice view worth stopping by
Fadoua S — Google review
Just extraordinary and underrated place where you can feel C. Manrique’s touch everywhere Fantastic panoramic view on the port
Francois G — Google review
What a wonderful place. Some interesting art in a curious and beautiful old castle building. Staircases are really cool and the rooftop views are nice. The artwork is interesting - particularly the sculpture exhibition. After the gallery, you’ll find the most gorgeous cafe / restaurant downstairs with sweeping views over the coast. The decor is truly stunning - and the coffee was delicious. I have to say… the toilets are without a doubt the nicest I’ve ever been in. No joke! Jesus and colleagues were so kind when our little bean spilled her water - and service was first class. Next time : lunch or dinner. I read a review that said “well, it’s not MoMA”. No, but it doesn’t try to be. It’s exactly what it says on the tin- a small museum of contemporary art in a stunning building. With a gorgeous cafe I’d have came back to again and again on the trip - and will frequent next time!

Playa Reducto is a beautiful sandy beach with a promenade and rentable chairs, offering a reef-protected bay for swimming. The Gran Hotel overlooks this golden beach, providing spectacular views of the Atlantic and Lanzarote's volcanic landscapes. Nearby attractions include Iglesia de San Gines, Castillo de San Gabriel, and the restaurant-lined Charco de San Gines lagoon in Arrecife's old town.
I love this beach. One of my favourites. Maybe because when we first came to Lanzarote, it was the first beach we visited. It has a great atmosphere. It's always clean. It's sandy. It never disappoints. ♥️

Amazing playa. We had a great time there. Always clean.
Mária K — Google review
Lovely beach, supervised by lifeguards, backed onto by any number of bars & restaurants. Also has well-appointed public toilets. Go here for sun/swim/eats & drinks
John S — Google review
The water is shallow for a long time and there are stones in it. It looks great, the sand is nice and clear but you cannot swim in the water properly.
FRAN P — Google review
Well maintained beach, good for spending a time with friends. A lot of rocks in the ocean, you cannot swim because water is shallow - it’s more for quick refreshment
Anže Z — Google review
As others commented, is not only that is closed due to pollution but the signalling about it is poor. I have seen people going into the water and lifeguard says nothing about it. Dangerous and disappointing behaviour. For a quiet sunbath is perfect.
Jey V — Google review
On the day we visited you were unable to go into the sea as a sewage pipe was Broke and polluting the sea. The beach is lovely and sandy and wide and long but sea is shallow and rocky. Showers and toilets which are free and two lifeguard stations. Nice to walk around and sun bath but no sunbeds to hire.
Mayo M — Google review
This beach is very beautiful! The sand is nice and clean and there are no rocks, the water is also good and clear, you can see people doing different sports inside the water, you can also see some marine life on the rocks such as crabs. There are also many good restaurants opposite this beach, it is recommended to visit it

La Casa Amarilla, formerly the government headquarters of Lanzarote, is now a small museum and cultural center showcasing the island's history. Located at the beginning of Leon y Castillo street, this elegant old building hosts changing exhibitions about life on Lanzarote. The admission is free, and visitors can explore various displays such as the recent photography exhibition capturing ancient life on the island.
Lovely Museum to visit. It's free to visit and when we went around we learnt a lot about their history in Lanzarote with the fab display of costumes, instruments, old props, books and magazines from the old days. It's very interesting to visit if you are nearby. The building is lovely and it's only a small walk around. The guy who was hosting was very welcoming and explained our way around before starting the tour.

Great exhibition! Highly recommended for anyone who likes photography and photojournalism and wants to get an impression of the island over the last few decades. Entertaining, informative, and great photos! Not big, 25-45 minutes. Well worth a visit!

I Was told by a nice lady 2 days ago that as a wheelchair user I would be able to enter the house from a side entrance . We returned today to find a very rude man in her place who looked at me and ranted something in Spanish and then walked away . My partner followed him to try and explain he eventually understood went around the side and said “It’s Kerpoot” I assume he meant broken . He then walked away and continued to pace up and down the road in front of the entrance. I found the whole experience very upsetting. As a capital city I would have expected better .

Tapas bar
Spanish restaurant
Tasca La Raspa is a beloved restaurant in Arrecife, Lanzarote. This delightful tapas bar is popular among locals and tourists alike. It offers a diverse menu that caters to various tastes, making it a perfect place for gatherings with friends and family. The restaurant prides itself on providing an enjoyable dining experience without breaking the bank, allowing patrons to savor delicious food in one of the top dining establishments in Arrecife.
Excellent food and lovely staff. We had a selection of tapas and some wine, and really enjoyed everything. The setting is lovely as well, right in front of the water
Scott M — Google review
I must say my experience at Taca La Raspa in Arrecife was, unfortunately, quite disappointing—largely due to the service, but also because the food failed to impress. From the moment we arrived, the interaction with our server—who I believe may have been Eastern European and had brightly colored hair—felt uncomfortable. She insisted that we order drinks first and wait for them to arrive before allowing us to place our food order, even though we already knew exactly what we wanted to eat. It came across as unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming, setting a poor tone for the meal. As for the food, it was underwhelming. We tried the fried fish, which was passable, and tuna tacos that were noticeably dry. The papas arrugadas lacked the usual tenderness and flavor one expects from this Canarian classic, and the mojo sauce served alongside was perhaps the least enjoyable I’ve ever had—bland and lacking the characteristic punch. The grilled cheese arrived drenched in too many competing sauces, overpowering what should have been a simple, flavorful dish. The redeeming element of the meal was the wine—a Vulcano seco, crisp and refreshing, which helped elevate an otherwise average culinary experience. However, at €73 for two people, the value for money was simply not there. In summary, while the restaurant has a nice location and potential, I found both the service dynamics and the execution of the food disappointing. I would suggest improvements in staff hospitality and more careful attention to the balance and authenticity of flavors.

Great location , overseeing a small bay . Unlike in other review I can confidently say that the food was fantastic, so was the service. Even though we were one of the last guests on Monday evening we were welcomed nicely and had a wonderful dinner. Thank you !

Our first night in Arrecife and what a find. A lovely restaurant overlooking the lagoon. The staff were fantastic we ordered five dishes, as the pics, but I forgot to get a pic of the padron peppers. Between two of us we had the five dishes plus five beers from the local Malpeis brewery, two stouts, the IPA, the red IPA and the Blonde. Excellent value, excellent food. One of us is a vegetarian and as is usually the case with tapas there were plenty of options. Will be back.

Restaurant
Bar Andalucia 1960 is a charming tapas bar located on a side street, exuding an authentic Andalusian vibe with its traditional tiles and lush vines. Since its establishment in 1960, it has been serving delightful and uncomplicated tapas straight from Seville, such as stuffed peppers, sherry-cooked sirloin, tortilla de patatas, and ham-and-cheese croquettes.
Great local place, owner and served by a famaly. Our waitresses were really kind and helpful. And the food is amazing… I don’t know why but we overate with the peppers. They were delicious.

Had my lunch here today and everything was very good. I had the patata bravas and the tortilla of the day to start and the grilled goat cheese with Iberian ham and the grilled octopus as main dishes and it was all delicious and tasty. Service was very friendly and with a smile. Not too expensive either. Definitely recommended if you are looking for a place for lunch whilst in Arrecife

Probably the best octopus I’ll ever have in my life! So happy me and my boyfriend found this place, would recommend to everyone! Waitresses were so kind, spoke amazing English and the food was 10/10
Katarina H — Google review
We arrived in town late and were lucky to find this cozy tapas shop still open, with seats available. This is a family-run business that originates from Italy, thus, their Spanish menu has an Italian twist. Let me tell you, every dish we had was amazing, but I highly recommend the octopus, which was soft and flavorful, as well as the croquette of the day, made with goat cheese - a true Lanzarote specialty. One thing you absolutely cannot miss before you go is trying out their ice cream with a wide selection of ‘oddly good flavors’- basil, arugula, and goat cheese. Trust me, each flavor is equally delicious and is the perfect way to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Angel H — Google review
We visited Bar Andalucia on our last night in Lanzarotte because of a review and it was the food highlight of our trip. I love food. I love to cook food I love, so finding a place that is incredible as Bar Andalucia is rare for me. During our meal I often closed my eyes as I took a bite so I could truly enjoy all of the amazing flavors of the fresh and tasty food. I think one time I did, the host caught me and smiled. When we sat down the wonderful host not only helped us with the menu, but made some amazing recommendations. We were originally going to start with the fried cheese, but the host suggested the goat cheese starter, which was a smash hit. It was a bit of fried goat cheese with jam that melted in my mouth. The flavors complemented each other so well. We ordered the spinach ravioli and the parma iberco (sp?) to share. The ravioli was homemade and was full of amazing flavor. We were fighting over each bite. Then, we received the parma. It was served with fried potatoes and grilled peppers. The peppers reminded me of the sweet green chilies that I love back home in New Mexico, bursting with flavor. The meat was tender and salted just right. The potatoes were crispy, salty and yummy. I was in heaven. We finished off with a dessert that I couldn’t match. Tiramisu and an orange dessert with ice cream. The Tiramisu tasted handmade and fresh. I wish I could include every wonderful little bit of the experience we had at Bar Andalusia, and we recommend a trip if you are in the area. Absolutely the best In Arricefe.

Nestled in the vibrant marina of Arrecife, Restaurante Lilium is a culinary gem run by a passionate husband-and-wife duo. This charming eatery has garnered attention for its exceptional quality and reasonable prices, earning it a Michelin Bib Gourmand commendation. The menu showcases an array of beautifully presented dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients like succulent scallops, fresh tuna loin, and tender suckling pig.

Wonderful evening with amazing local food & wine. The home made cottage cheese with the tomato starter was delicious. Would highly recommend. Very good value for an M⭐️ restaurant. Thank you for your hospitality.
Jo C — Google review
I had the pleasure of dining at Lilium with some friends, and let me tell you — it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality, setting the tone for a fantastic evening. We were lucky enough to be looked after by two incredible and charming waitresses — both named Sandra — who made us feel at home right away. Their professionalism, combined with a light-hearted and friendly approach, was just perfect. They helped us navigate the menu and wine list with incredible precision, deep knowledge of the ingredients, and a wonderful patience in explaining everything, even though we don’t speak Spanish. It really felt like they wanted us to have the best possible experience, and we absolutely did. As for the food — it was simply outstanding. The tartare was unbelievably fresh, and the pig dish was genuinely unforgettable — rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. All the other dishes lived up to the same high standard, each beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. But what struck me the most — beyond the food, the wine, and the atmosphere — was the kindness and warmth of Sandra. Her attentiveness and sincerity turned a great meal into a truly memorable night. It’s rare to be treated with such genuine care, and it made all the difference. Thank you, Lilium — we’ll definitely be back.

A really lovely dining experience. I was dining alone but given a great table looking out over the marina. Service from the welcome on arrival all the way through to goodbye was friendly, personal and relaxed. The food was full of flavour and nicely presented and the local matched wines were even better than I expected. The explanations for each course and wine pairing added to the experience. Having dined at Michelin star restaurants across Europe the dining experience at Lilium compared very well and is great value for a tasting menu with matched wines. A thoroughly enjoyable evening !

A wonderful experience. Most certainly a beautiful way to discover the Canary gastronomy. We had the tasting menu (the biggest one) with wine pairing. 9 courses with incredible concentration in flavour, perfectly paired with 6 well chosen (generous) glasses of Lanzarote wines. The chef and Sandra are amazing people, offering you a friendly and warm service. Won't forget any of that, especially not the Vino Dormido. Thank you for everything.

This restaurant is an absolute delight! The host is so welcoming and the food is delicious. Each dish was explained and presented beautifully. We didn’t order a bottle of wine but we did drink a lovely Cava and wine by the glass. At the end of the evening the chef came to the table to check in, it was fantastic to be able to thank him personally for the food. I would love to return and highly recommend this restaurant to all.

The restaurant was beautifully presented, tables well distanced. We had the full taster menu. Many of the courses were delicious, but some not so. The fish, for example was overcooked and my partner had some hard bits (bones, scales?). The pork was tough and the crackling chewy. We enjoyed our evening, but wouldn't go again.

Great service funny and relaxed. Food disappointing after reading so many good reviews, octopus as starter nice presentation but bland taste and over cooked, prawns in garlic nice, garlic bread two thin slices, sirloin steak probably the worst we had, dry, chewy, tasteless, half of it was impossible to eat. pork was ok but bit dry, potatoes bland, all together missing spices and bit more knowledge on how to cook steak.

Excellent food and services from El Nido, Miguel the young gentleman served us with a very friendly manner. We had our late lunch at the restaurant. It’s quiet at that time so the atmosphere is just right for us!

What an incredible and authentic experience. Pablo and Ernesto were absolutely fantastic. The best service we have received ever. Great atmosphere and delicious food! The service was friendly and attentive, and the menu had a good variety of options. Everything we tried was fresh and full of flavor. Would definitely recommend and visit again!

A great place for lunch in Teguise. Super friendly staff who will go out of their way to accommodate you (including allergies). Their food is creative and very tasty. Their papas arrugas are the best I've ever had! Highly recommend stopping by if you're in town

Food is great when offered; we (married couple) took staff recommendations fir tapas, and it was all good. We can't comment on sweets or puddings as we were not offered any, at all! Staff just ignored us after the main courses. We had to ask for the bill, then left quickly. We won't be returning.

Such a creative and innovative menu and our choices were so delicious and perfectly presented. Great value and generous portions along with friendly professional service. Thank you for such enjoyable food on our last night on Lanzarote.

The food was great. We didn’t even what to choose. But we can definitely recommend sweet potatoes with kimchi sauce and also croquettes :). Prawns wok was also tasty.

Food is pretty good, if a little expensive. Service is terrible - I’ve been here multiple times, they will ignore you for 30 minutes or longer with an empty drink and plate, even if you make eye contact. You will not be served unless you physically get up from your table to flag someone down.

Such good quality spanish fusion in Arrecife. Amazing service and food. Highly recommend the sweet potatoes with kimchi mayo and meatballs! Charcuterie board also had a good selection of cured meats that were smoky and flavourful but not too salty. Also wallet friendly, all the food added up to €34 as seen. Really worth it in our opinion. Special mention: butter is President butter!!
