Osnabruck

Osnabrück is a city in northwest Germany. The Town Hall is where the 1648 Peace of Westphalia was negotiated, bringing the 30 Years’ War to an end. It sits on the market square, along with gabled houses and St. Marien, a 13th-century Gothic church. The Felix Nussbaum House shows a large collection of works by the local surrealist painter. To the south, the grounds of Osnabrück Castle are a venue for summer concerts.

Museum
Art museum
The Felix Nussbaum House, also known as the Museum of Cultural History, is a dedicated art museum that commemorates the life and artistic contributions of German-Jewish painter Felix Nussbaum. Nussbaum's works vividly capture the Jewish persecution and the horrors of the Holocaust, reflecting his own experiences during this dark period in history. The museum features an extensive collection of Nussbaum's paintings, drawings, and personal belongings.
Very interesting museum with topics around the Neanderthal species for kids and their parents. Worth a visit. Please note that school classes will be visiting on weekdays.

Super friendly staff and really interesting exhibition on Felix Nussbaum as well as the city's history and the peace treaty of Westphalia. Really well arranged for international visitors with all info in English as well and super interactive and engaging for all generations!

I haven't been inside of the museum yet, but I always pass this Quartier by Bus and wish to visit it, the area is so nice ant the buildings are charming!

Nice place ! Nice location . Very informative. This is perfect art museum for all the art lovers . You can see alot of exhibitions going on almost all the time .
Sumit S — Google review
Extremely nice and special museum. The building is designed by the famous architect Libeskind. The collection is bigger than I expected and displayed by theme or life phases of Felix Nussbaum. The museum combines with the city museum which is also extremely nice.

A gem of an art museum, but be prepared: it's not for the faint hearted. While there is joy to be found here, the dark shadow of suffering and death runs through many of the exhibits. A place for sober reflection and appreciation for the present set against the mistakes of the recent past.

Beautiful architecture, helpful greeting staff, thought provoking exhibition by Felix Nussbaum. Bauhaus exhibition great too.

What a daunting place, Felix his art shows clearly the psychological destruction of war. Impressive architecture too.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Osnabrück Zoo is a top-tier destination known for its beautifully landscaped park featuring wild animal enclosures, an aquarium, a pagoda, and an interactive climate zone. The zoo has garnered widespread acclaim for its efforts to replace old concrete enclosures with near-natural environments. Recent additions include the Manitoba landscape where bison roam freely in a 3,800-square-meter area and the walkable South Asian temple habitat called Angkor Wat.
Zoo Osnabrück is a great destination for families and animal lovers. It has spacious enclosures, diverse species, and beautiful forest surroundings. The themed areas, like Takamanda and Angkor Wat, add a unique touch. A fun and educational experience!

Red pandas are very cute! Looks in good condition and full of vitality🥰However, I noticed that the elephant was showing a lot of anxiety, while the bear appeared to exhibit stereotyped behavior. I think the zoo needs to arrange doctors for them as soon as possible☹️The entrance fee for the zoo is 25 euros, which is relatively expensive among the many zoos I have been to. I think they should ensure the living standards of the animals
Juliet — Google review
Fun zoo with animals and playgrounds. On a rainy day there is not much cover while going around and the playgrounds get muddy.
Matthias T — Google review
Great park! It's a big park but everything is perfectly doable in one day. The route's / walkways through the different areas is really nice to see everything. It would be nice to have German ánd English on the animal signs to speak to a broader audience. (Get the tickets online, they are cheaper and saves a line at the entrance(if there is any))

Best zoo to visit, it’s really beautiful and they have a big playing area for kids. Recommended
Amer M — Google review
The zoo Osnabrück that has been around for more than 80 years. Its a very nice zoo with a lot of variety of animals, from ants to elephants. The zoo is continuously being improved to make the experience even more beautiful. there are plenty of eateries, seating areas, toilets and trash cans
Chr!s — Google review
It was clean and staff friendly. Some of the enclosure seemed a little empty at the start didn't seem like much to see. The bear and the tiger were great to see. No sign of the lion.
Mark H — Google review
Its a very nice Zoo with lots of cool Animals, but they didnt really look after the Animals. Like there was a dead Snow-Owl and the Confinements were full of poop.

We drove for an hour only to end up at an office in a city, the park seemed nowhere close and the website is very unclear about where the park actually is. The office adres is mentioned everywhere though, which makes it very confusing. We never arrived at the park.

(Translated by Google) We've already used several of the hiking trails. They're well signposted and, for example, at Hüggel and Piesberg, they offer a wealth of information on geology and history. The guided tours are also highly recommended. Last Sunday, we learned a great deal about Hüggel and Silbersee. Even as a "local," you can learn a lot. Many thanks again to Mr. Posch for the informative afternoon. (Original) Wir haben schon einige der Wanderwege genutzt. War memorial
Sights & Landmarks
Hegertor, also known as Waterloo Gate, is a monumental arched gate in Osnabrück that serves as a memorial to the city's warriors who participated in the Battle of Waterloo. This Neoclassical structure was built in 1817 and is situated near the original location of the Heger Tor. The arch features two pairs of Ionic columns and was funded by a local citizen named Gerhard Friedrich von Gulich.
It may be too soon for some. But this is a memorial for the Osnabrücker soldaten that fought with the british against would be emperor napoleon. Now its a nice memorial with a bar on top, perfect for romantic kiss during the sunset. Or just to hang around

Italian restaurant
Pizza restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Osnabrück, L'Osteria is a delightful dining destination that captures the essence of Italian cuisine. With its spacious and modern interior, this restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for enjoying a meal with friends or family. Guests can indulge in an impressive array of dishes, from delectable appetizers to hearty pasta options and their signature stone-baked pizzas. The menu caters to various dietary preferences, featuring European, vegetarian, Mediterranean, healthy, and vegan choices.
Friendly staff, delicious food, generous portions. The best vegan pizza I've tried so far, and the biggest too :D We got a birthday tiramisu as a gift 🎂 Thank you guys.
Jelena J — Google review
Friendly staff, nice place with a pleasant view and summer outside garden/platform to sit. Pizza is huge and tasty. Pasta looked delicious too. Recommend this place.
Ann — Google review
Really cool open design. The pizzas are big and neopolitan style so if you have a big appetite it's easy to take down one by yourself worst case you come home with a midnight snack etc. The atmosphere is really nice, the service is extremely fast even during peak hours and everyone is very friendly. They also have a lovely view inside and outside on an equally large and aesthetically pleasing wooden terrace posted up above the river. Although, we didn't get to sit on the terrace, it looks like it could get some mosquitoes when the water is low, but tbh I can't confirm it, also I didn't really notice any mosquitoes in Osnabrück even after a hot spell and a pretty impressive thunderstorm. Definitely a place I'd eat at every day, but I love that style of pizza and they really got the perfect timing and balance of ingredients. Plus it was a really good price considering the XL pizza and a half carafe of house red Abruzzo. I'm a cheap beer and Guinness man myself but the Abruzzo red they have was really good with the pizza and left more space to eat. Overall it's a good place for pretty much any occasion and always seems to have a good vibe and lots of all kinds of people coming and going. I wish we had one where I lived!

A special place, I don't even know where to start, from different dishes, to delicious desserts and a 10-star staff. I will definitely come back to enjoy other goodies. Thank you.😍

Not our favorite pizzeria. Good salad, boring pizza and totally impersonal service. Such a pity. The outside area looks great and the interior is really beautiful too.
Claire J — Google review
Cozy restaurant, with a quite and nice atmosphere. The prices are from my point of view a bit high but the portions are therefor really big. The raviolis with Asparagus were delicious. The pizzas are extremely huge, the experience would be even better if the plates were bigger, as it is very hard to cut them.
Tatiana V — Google review
Pizza tastes good but can sometimes be not baked upto the mark! Cosy ambience, good to spend a quality time with your close ones. Friendly staff. Central location.

Nestled in the heart of Osnabruck's Old Town, the Romantik Hotel Walhalla is a charming blend of history and modern comfort. Housed in a stunning 17th-century timber-framed building, this hotel offers refined accommodations complete with contemporary amenities like free Wi-Fi and minibars. Guests can indulge in a delightful buffet breakfast each morning before exploring the vibrant market square just steps away. The hotel's restaurant serves an exquisite array of German cuisine that beautifully marries tradition with modern flair.
We were there from 13th til 18th August. Beautiful hotel. The room was comfortable and cosy, the only downside of it being an old building, was no air-conditioning, but there was a tower fan in our room, so that helped. Bar staff were very pleasant, as were the restaurant staff. The meals were delicious and the breakfasts set you up for the day. All the staff were friendly, from Reception desk to the chamber maids. We were greeted by anybody we passed as we walked round the hotel or outside of it. Reception enquired as to whether our stay had been a good one when we left, and even booked a taxi to take us to the train station. I would most definitely recommend and would love to return again in the future.

Having stayed at this hotel several times, I’ve always found the staff to be exceptionally friendly. The restaurant offers an excellent choice for a peaceful and delightful dining experience
NDALI M — Google review
On our way back from Berlin we stayed here – never again. At check-in they tried to charge more than their own website (only corrected after I insisted). The lounge bar was full, the restaurant overpriced (€9.50 for a simple glass of wine). Room comfort was poor: bad beds, useless pillows, no coffee/tea facilities. At check-out I was told they “could have brought a kettle” – with plain hot water only. This is not hospitality, just box-ticking.
Rob R — Google review
Room was very basic but clean. right on top off the bar. Breakfast was good but I think too expensive.
Ilze S — Google review
Fantastic German food with great presentation and superior taste. Here you can taste authentic but modern and beautified version of German cuisine in the cost and classy restaurant settings. It’s located in the old city part inside the over-100-year-old building. It has stunning façade. Coming here will delight you with various meat choices with awesome potato side dishes. Desserts taste wonderful as well. Portions are smaller than street restaurants but can fulfill you. Great services. Nice for special occasions.
NY H — Google review
City is beautiful, the service was great. But the rooms was not the best. The beds was uncomfortable and the room was very hot with bad air during the night. And it was a lot of noise from the restaurant. Good breakfast and good food in the restaurant.
Linus O — Google review
One of the best hotels and two great restaurants in the city of Osnabrück. The employees are very, kind and helpful. The food is perfectly composed to give you a great experience. And the service is at a very high level. I would strongly recommend that all try that.
Magnus M — Google review
One of the Romantik chain of hotels we booked in hoping the hotel might be OK but with relatively low expectations of our stay as German friends of ours had been a bit disparaging about Osnabruck ... We were however very pleasantly surprised. The hotel was beautifully positioned in the altstadt, our room was modern, spacious and very tastefully decorated & furnished. I always appreciate free WiFi and the hotel's WiFi was not only free but seemed quite fast. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We ate in the bar and the food was also first class - as was the buffet breakfast. Parking wasn't free but it was under the hotel, seemed to be secure and they had chargers for electric vehicles (1 Tesla destination charger and another for other cars). Osnabruck itself was also far nicer than we had been led to expect. The Altstadt in particular was charming.

Restaurant
The Osnabrücker Ratskeller restaurant offers exceptional service and serves delicious, refreshing beer. While the food may not be to everyone's liking, this is subjective and a matter of personal taste. There was a slight issue with the ginger in the mashed sweet potatoes, but overall the steak was expertly cooked. The restaurant provides an excellent dining experience overall.
Great food. Best schweinshaxe and burger we've had and had to come back for.

Came for the Pork Knuckle, it’s not the best, but it tastes not bad, especially if you like it not very dry. There is carpark nearby, you can also walk around the cathedral and the old town when visit.

Historic restaurant in Osnabrück where you can taste traditional German and Viennese cuisine. The staff is friendly and helpful, the setting is welcoming and very suggestive because it is located in the ancient building (15th century) of the Altes Rathaus.

German Angst reigns supreme as this is apparently the only restaurant left in Osnabrueck to still require those pointless face masks when dining indoors. No idea if the place is any good as we weren’t allowed inside and it was too cold to eat on the piazza.

Nestled near the historic Dominikanerkirche, Osnabrücker Kartoffelhaus Dominikaner is a charming eatery that celebrates the humble potato in all its glory. This rustic tavern boasts a cozy atmosphere, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The menu features an enticing selection of schnitzels, steaks, casseroles, and various potato dishes that highlight this versatile ingredient.
Absolutely a lovely time - we reserved a table in advance, and despite being a bit later as expected due to traffic, they were more than happy to still accommodate us (a party of 6)! The staff was very kind and the food was delicious I got the Potato Pizza, and it was worth every bite ;) The atmosphere is splendid, the table we sat at was a bit tighter so less room to get up, otherwise the vibes were great and it definitely gives off a very rustic German energy! NOTE: The table we had was only available for an hour and a half, due to the popularity of the location and time/day we visited.

Very nice place, great vibes, kind and knowledgeable bartender. Our dog was welcome to join us, when asked for a doggybag there was a positive response to not throwing the food. English was at sufficient level, in case you don’t speak German (but don’t stop trying obviously 😉) Definitely worth visiting!

I happened to walk in to this restaurant on a busy night, without a reservation. The waitstaff were very polite and informed me they could find me a seat, but it will be limited to 45 minutes because of existing reservations. I took a chance, and was glad I did that. Great tasting food and amazing service.

Alte Posthalterei is a great spot to indulge in authentic Bavarian cuisine, offering a delightful selection of traditional dishes from Bayern. The atmosphere exudes a sense of tradition, while the service is warm and welcoming. Reservations are unnecessary for lunch visits. One cannot miss trying their outstanding pork knuckle which boasts an irresistibly crispy skin and tender meat within. Overall, this German gem promises delicious food and wine along with friendly service that makes it well worth a visit.
A pleasant traditional Bavarian restaurant with beautiful old fashioned decor, excellent food, and friendly service. Cozy, comfortable, and delicious. The Schweinshaxen was perfect... crispy parts on the outside and tender on the inside. Very nice sauerkraut and potatoes too. And of course plenty of beer to choose from.

Me and my fiance had dinner here on June 6. The staff were not very friendly. Most of the food on the menu was all the same price. €16.20. We did not enjoy our meal. Taste like it came out of deep fried in fat or oil. We never go asked if we would like a second drink or refull. We both had stomach trouble after meal. I will never be back

Good place for traditional Bayern dishes. We enjoyed beer, schnitzel and spätzl. Friendly service. Traditional ambience. No need to reserve for lunch when we came there.

An old favourite since it became a Bavarian style restaurant. Have a feeling it may have changed hands several times as the food and service quality fluctuates. But always one of the top eatery options for lunch in Osna.
