Rocca di Sala, also known as Rocchetta Arrighina, is a historic fortress in Lucca, Italy. Initially built in 1324 to strengthen the city's defense system, it was later destroyed by the Florentines in 1484 and rebuilt. The fortress offers panoramic views of the area and is located near the 14th century Guinigi Palace.
Great place.

It’s nice to sit on the Big Bench at dusk and enjoy small talk while looking at Pietra Santa. If you have time, you should visit. It doesn’t take long, but be aware that the slope is steep and the path is not well-maintained.

(Translated by Google) The score rewards the view and the panorama more than the Rocca itself. Neglected environment, dirty benches and adjacent areas. The panoramic bench is taken by storm. There are no descriptive signs or information on the Rock. It really gives the idea of a beautiful, now abandoned place that would have much more potential. Sin (Original) Il punteggio premia più la vista e il panorama che la Rocca in sé per sé. Ambiente trascurato, panchine e zone adiacenti sporche. La panchina panoramica è presa d'assalto. (Translated by Google) It is true that you can see it from the main square of the historic center towering over the hill, but some indicative signs could be installed along the route. However, after climbing a few hundred meters, the effort to reach this place is amply rewarded by the surrounding landscape. From the town square the impression is different: it looks like a fortified fiefdom, however... Only partially intact sections of the ancient walls remain. However, it is suggestive to find yourself in front of what remains even if greater maintenance would make the perimeter safer and more interesting. The memory of a challenging climb and a landscape as far as the eye can see remains.

(Translated by Google) Let's say right away that only a few perimeter walls remain of the Rocca, although observing it from below it can give the impression of a real castle still standing. It is accessed via a short but somewhat steep climb starting from the cathedral square. People usually rush to take photos sitting on the giant bench at the top, but honestly it's not worth it! Once you arrive at the top, the view is nice but certainly not breathtaking (wide expanse of urban panorama and warehouses with a strip of sea in the background), the route ends under the only perimeter wall still preserved and two large plastic pipes make a beautiful display (photo) . As for the bench, it is generally taken over by hordes of children and teenagers who smoke... Let's say that there are better attractions in the area!

Nestled within the Luigi Russo Cultural Centre in Piazza Duomo, the Museo dei Bozzetti is a testament to the global artistic influence on Pietrasanta. Established in 1984 by photographer Jette Mulendorph, this museum showcases the creative endeavors of sculptors who converge in Pietrasanta from around the world to craft their pieces in local artisan workshops.

(Translated by Google) Pietrasanta, known as "Little Athens," is a cultural center. Here, in the Piazza del Duomo or at the former Augustinian Convent, exhibitions of artists, some of whom are world-renowned, often take place. These artists, among other things, have studios here in Pietrasanta, where they conceive, develop, and create their art. Then came the problem of where to store the sketches and preparatory models, and Pietrasanta solved it... with the Sketches Museum. It was 1984, and from an idea by Jette Mühlendorph, the "Pierluigi Gherardi" Sketches Museum was established in the former Augustinian Convent. Here, approximately 350 artists, including Fernando Botero; Pietro Cascella; Igor Mitoraj; Giò Pomodoro; and Giuliano Vangi (just to name a few... the first that come to mind) have left behind their ideas in the form of sketches and models. Moreover, as in all the city's museums, it is a museum where it is not necessary to pay an entrance fee... because in "Little Athens" art is a gift to the community that is found, not only in the museums, but also in the squares and on the roundabouts of the city.

Rocchetta Arrighina is a historic fortress located in the city, originally built in 1324 to strengthen its defense system. It was part of a larger defensive structure and had a moat with a drawbridge. Although it was destroyed in 1484 by the Florentines, it was later rebuilt and underwent further alterations in the 19th century when its military functions were no longer needed.

The works began in March 1324 and ended in 1329 on the orders of Castruccio Castracani, who had the fortress and walls built to strengthen the city defenses. The leader then decided to call it Rocchetta di Arrigo in honor of his son Arrigo. It represents one of the surviving works of the historical past of Versilia and Pietrasanta. You can admire it coming from the station. It overlooks Piazza Giosuè Carducci, a lively meeting place in the city with many clubs. Ristorante Enoteca Marcucci in Pietrasanta is a must-visit for those seeking a magical and unique atmosphere. Established in 1987, this place boasts an impressive reserve of over 1800 wine labels. The restaurant offers countless drink options and suggests enjoying them with simple cold cuts of Tuscan delicacies. Visitors praise the kind service, extensive wine selection, and delicious food, particularly recommending the beef cheek.
Must visit. Owner was very nice. One of the most extensive wine list. Highly recommend

Extremely slow service, verging on unpleasant. Completely unprofessional. Food was decent but nothing exceptional.
Hervé P — Google review
We decided to have dinner in this place last Saturday. So it was a typical over-crowded summer evening. First and foremost: the tables are crammed outside along the road. Distance between you and the other guests is 15cm at most - this is something I really hate and can understand only for typical tourist traps in big cities. We had "mortadella" appetizers for €25/person - they brought few slices of very typical mortadella, same as in supermarket. We had historical "polpette" for just €20 and they brought four extremely small meatballs. Let's move on: we asked for sparkling water, and they brought us (first time in my life in an italian restaurant) water in a tin can. We opted for the steak as main course and yes, meat was delicious ..fantastic - juicy...tender...it was anazing. Overpriced though. My wife asked for a glass of wine...as I was driving - they brought us a very sour and almost hot red wine - as the temperature outside was almost 30°C - but I thought that a "vinoteca" should know how to keep wine refrigerated. I asked for a coffee and they forgot to bring it. I'm sorry but please stay as far away as possible from this place - there is absolutely nothing worth a visit.
Simon L — Google review
The place is great, but the service is quite bad. They made us feel very unwelcome, we had to wait for over 20 min to get a bottle of water, and food, in general, was disappointing. I used to come to this place often a long time ago and it was great... now it's certainly not. Not a great way to spend over 100 euros for two people (without wine or drinks)
Juan L — Google review
An absolutely bizarre establishment that serves bland food and awful wine. I ordered a 38 Euro steak which couldn't have arrived with less flavour if it tried. If that wasn't enough it was ridiculously expensive. This could not be any worse. Like the review below mine I wouldn't normally write such a strong review but its just not acceptable to deliver such a poor experience and charge so much.
Tom R — Google review
This is the first time I have ever given a restaurant a poor review, but I felt I needed to inform others of the terrible food here. We are from NYC and there is infinitely better Italian food there than in this restaurant. Really disappointed in this meal. Most expensive meal I’ve ever had in Italy and there was zero flavor. Additionally, I found a sharp piece of metal in my pasta dish that stabbed the roof of my mouth. Would never return, would never recommend.
Audrey O — Google review
This used to be my favourite restaurant in Italy. Now everything has changed. The oriole are different and there is zero care for your enjoyment or for the food they are bringing. It’s all about churn. Give this place a miss, there are many nicer restaurants in Pietrasanta.
Jack — Google review
Bad service (or simply understaffed), poor food quality and too expensive prices. Had the pasta and tomatoe soup as a starter. The pasta had no taste and the soupe was so thick that you could eat it with a fork. For main course we ordered the veal cotlette which was more than well done. After complaining did the waiter say that the chef said it has to be cooked like this and he could offer instead of a beef fillet. After several tries to order the cotlette medium we gave up and took the beef filet indtead of. This one was cooked perfectly with the only problem that the beef was expired and tasted extremly sour. The side dishes (patatoes and the tomatoe selection) were very boring; No taste of the tomatoes and the potatoes felt like they were warmed up already a couple of times. We have confronted the server with our experience of the food. We werent offered to jot pay for the meat we basically couldnt eat. We actially feel like the waiters tried bit the kitchen was the problem. Frustrating after a week in italy with much better food in the smallest most random places. This was our last evening and wanted to treat us - but was a big dissapointment.

Da Giacomo Pietrasanta offers a timeless elegance and a focus on fresh, locally sourced seafood. The intimate interior exudes the classic style of Giacomo, while the inviting display of freshly caught fish sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. Situated in a charming pedestrian zone, this hidden gem boasts attentive service and delectable cuisine. Guests can enjoy an enchanting garden setting and savor dishes like pulpo, pasta, beef rib eye, scallops, and more.
In a magical setting with incredibly attentive service and great food. It's like stepping into a exotic private garden in Palermo, from the already super charming pedestrian zone in Pietrasanta. Everything they suggested was perfect, including the wine, with no upsell. I only wanted to have a small meal, and I was still served as if I had ordered a 5-course meal. Super special; go early though, or make reservations. I don't think this hidden gem will stay hidden for long.

Our local friend recommended Da Giacomo for a special occasion, and it was the perfect choice. We went for dinner to celebrate my husband’s birthday and had a wonderful evening. The garden setting was absolutely beautiful, and the service was exceptional — attentive and thoughtful. They even served the kids’ dishes first, which made things so much easier for us as a family. The food was excellent, and the whole experience felt truly special. If you’re looking for a fancy dinner to celebrate an important day, we highly recommend it. Plus, the town of Pietrasanta itself is charming and well worth exploring.

Very beautiful location, good food and our waitress was super friendly and caring. Thank you for that! But unfortunately something bad happened in the end. One of the waiters (may the chef of them. He was in his 50s or something) gave my 20 year old cousin a card with his private phone number on it. This is not just unprofessional, it’s absolutely a No Go! We all (8pax) left the restaurant with uncomfortable feelings. May this text make you think about what you did to her. Do you really think that girls about 30 years younger than you appreciate that, grandpa? Best example how the behaviour of one men can ruin all the good feelings about this place we had before. Sorry for all the rest of the team (you all were very kind) but we’ll never come back.

An absolutely beautiful location. Ask to sit in the garden. The food was incredible from start to finish. Pasta amazing, so was the pork, the scallops, the oysters and the desserts. Great town for a stroll after dinner. Great wine list.
Lee G — Google review
The food here is truly delicious, but the service was absolutely terrible. The waiters completely forgot about us — they didn’t refill our water or wine, so we ended up serving ourselves. When they finally brought the food, they just stood there waiting for us to clear the table ourselves. They were unfriendly, grumpy, and offered no help in choosing wine. The staff seemed totally disorganized. After finishing our main course, we sat for 20 minutes with dirty plates still in front of us. The restroom was dirtier than at a gas station, which was shocking. We visited this place two years ago and had a wonderful experience — the décor is beautiful, and the food is excellent. Unfortunately, after last night’s visit, we probably won’t be coming back. There are plenty of equally good restaurants in the area with much better service.
Marta K — Google review
Da Giacomo came recommended. Set in a quaint courtyard only slightly diminished by the crusher stone on the ground - a poor substitute for a paver and a guarantee to be eating from a dancing table. A little irritating to say the least. Not in the mood for fish we opted for meat which probably is not their forte. The walk through Pietrasanta was well worth the visit. The town’s accent on stone and sculptures creates an air of culture and beauty. A stop in one of the main piazza bars is highly recommended for a pre-dinner aperitivo.

Really nice inside, food and service was excellent tables slightly close together for couples, but not as bad as many UK places where you pay a premium and can touch the next table!

Start your evening with a Tagliatelle with Truffels, continue with a Branzino and end your evening with one of the desserts, definitely one of my favourite spots in and around Pietrasanta/Forte.

Interesting interpretations of local favorite recipes. Excellent Mare Caldo (warm seafood salad).
