Saalbach-Hinterglemm

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is an Austrian Alpine resort town, southwest of the city of Salzburg. It’s known for its ski areas. A network of lifts provides access to the ski circuits of the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Mountain bike trails criss-cross nearby Reiterkogel, Kohlmais and Schattberg mountains. Signs along the Homeland Path in the Glemmtal valley around the Zwölferkogel mountain recount the region's history.

Ski resort
Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is a top ski resort with 270 km of pistes and high-speed lifts. The area offers something for everyone, from beginners to advanced skiers. The ski pass covers Saalbach Hinterglemm, Leogang, Fieberbrunn, Zell am Zee, and Kaprun, providing over 400 km of skiing. The lift system is modern and well-maintained.
One of the best ski resorts in Austria, With plenty options for beginers or experienced skiers or free riders. Stunnig panorams all around you and excellent services. Free parking if you validate you parking ticket before you return you skipass in return machine. Skipass prices are about 70€ for one day ticket in main season (25). Worth every penny.

Such a well established and modern resort. Austrian Alps are breathtaking, and Skicircus allows for easy navigation around the mountains. So many beautiful restaurants on the slopes with delicious and affordable food. This was my 4th trip and I look to may more in the coming years!

An incredible ski resort. We went in early March and not much snow left but the trails were open but melting. Locals said, Jan is the best time, Feb could get crowded for holidays. Anyway, the infrastructure at this resort blows away any USA resorts The Pre ski is truly a party. The on mountain huts, (60) puts the US ski resorts to shame and the quality is superior vs hamburger hot dogs in the CO. Also there are gondola's are all over the valley and a ski bus is easy to reach them all. Even for a non-skier there's plenty of activities to do. Or you can buy a non-skier pass and they can travel all the gondolas to the summit. Unlike, USA resort only a few offer this and it's not to the summit. 80€ sure beats $250 US daily. Great resort, hewer, I would go back in Jan rather than March. It was pretty hot too. 2 Thumbs up tho...

Amazing bikeparks. Just go and experience it by yourselves! 🤟 Ps. Only one disadvantage - if you want to go from Saalbach to Leogang (or opossite), the path is nightmare. 6 km of roots and hills. Better to go by car.

More than 400km of ski runs included in the Alpin Card. What could possibly go wrong? Absolutely nothing! We were based in Fieberbrunn with less than 5 minutes walk to the bottom of ski runs and the new Streuböden lift base station. Here are some useful tips. You can use the lifts on the day before your lift passes start after 3.00PM - Really useful for late arrivals that want to blow away the cobwebs before hitting the slopes for a full day. If you're staying in Fieberbrunn they have a free Ski show on Tuesday nights from 7.30PM right on the slopes next to the Streuböden lift. Fieberbrunn works really well as a starting point if your looking to cover large distances as you head towards Saalbach and beyond in the morning on south facing slopes and your return journey is on mainly north facing slopes. This worked well for us in February and I would imaging its even better in the spring when the sun's intensity increases. The lift pass includes access to Timoks mountain toboggan which is just above Fieberbrunn. Use the ski circus app to find restaurants and consider booking a table if you've got your heart set on a particular place as the best ones get busy. Considering we were away on the busy school half term we didn't get caught in any long queues for lifts and the pistes were pretty quiet (Red and Black) blue runs looked busier in places.

Second ski trip here, great groomed slopes, gets a bit slushy in the afternoon but that’s down to the temperature. Lots of great bars and restaurants on all slopes, clean and fast lifts with very helpful and friendly staff.
Craig R — Google review
One of the best areas to ski. Really nice lifts with heated seats and weather covers so it is really comfortable. The people that work at the lifts are really friendly and there to help you or make you laugh. You can make a large round without to take the same lift or slope twice. The ski challenge for example takes you to 32 different lifts and 65 kilometers of skiing. And you'll get a present when you're done. 🎁
Erik B — Google review
Best ski resort I’ve been in. Amazing slopes, premium lifts (some including even heated seats and wind/cover) and nice areas to play (jumps, speed tracks, …). Very good restaurants at the ski area to stop for food or beer and a great apre-ski environment

In the heart of Saalbach, Austria, lies the Schattberg X-press, a gondola lift that takes you to breathtaking mountain stations offering panoramic views. This central location attracts many mountain bikers due to the abundance of trails available. Convenient parking is located right next to the lift, and visitors with a valid ticket can have their parking validated for free.
Fantastic mountain top destination. First day we went up it was cold and rainy. Second day was just perfect. The kids played in the outdoor playground and I went for relatively easy hike to the connected mountains. Just wonderful place. Note: we had the Joker card because we stayed in Saalbach, I don't know how much it cost to pay for the ride up the mountain.

Fast modern lift Free bike wash .

A comfortable gondola for both cyclists and hikers, which only takes a few minutes to get to the top of the mountain at 2079 meters above sea level. The bike-enabled gondolas require some fiddling to fit 2 bikes, but the staff is very helpful in ensuring that your bikes are affixed safely inside the cabin. From the top, a choice of downhill trails is available,
J G — Google review
It has been probably caused by the actual weather conditions, but I've been already more enjoying ski in couple of other places where you could find well prepared slopes with corduroy surface even in the afternoon. Sölden was the absolute too and Obertauern the best price/value 😉
Ajka K — Google review
In winter easy access to the top of the mountain and from there to red, black and blue slopes, the blue one being the link to Schmittenhohe. Parking over- as well as underground (otherwise fully booked early in the morning). Close to the town and skirent stores. Startpoint to the Saalbach skicircuit.
Stefan B — Google review
One of the popular ski lifts. It does get busy but that’s to be expected in peak ski season. You can purchase lift passes here. Close to bus terminal (at the base of the gondela ), you will find access to the ski bus here and your regional busses for example the bus that would take you back to Zell am See. There are a variety of slopes at the very top of Schattberg, there is the famous black run and some very pleasant red and blue runs. For snowboarders you can take your board into the gondela just remember to grab a cover for your board before you climb into the gondela. The ride going up is also awesome , spectacular views while going up the mountain and also from the top of the mountain. Lovely restaurant at the top to eat at or to grab a drink. Again this gondela is suitable for skiers, boarders and ‘pedestrians’ who want to just enjoy breathtaking views.

Just beautiful, breathtaking scenery, Salsburg is a must go to town, any time of year! Try the Kristiana Hotel. There are two funicular either side of the town, cafe/restaurants on the top of both. At the top of the Shattberg X-press you will a very well equipped, fun and adventure play area, seats and hammocks to relax in too
Christopher G — Google review
My first trip on a serious cable car. I enjoyed the ride very much. Arriving at a station a bit daunting as you approach seemingly quite fast with slow moving cars inside. Coming out of the mid-station the gondola swung out and back before settling.

The Kohlmaisbahn is a fantastic cable car that whisks you from the charming town of Saalbach to the stunning heights of the Kohlmais mountain. This modern lift, which accommodates up to ten people, offers breathtaking views as it ascends. Once at the top, you'll find an array of slopes suitable for all skill levels—whether you're a beginner or looking for more challenging black pistes on nearby Zwolferkogel and Schattberg peaks.
Great gondola to middle station or top of mountain. 2 bikes fit inside and will bring you to the top. For an amazing view and of course a trail off the mountain. With joker card you can use it for free and get discount of 20% on normal rates.

Spectacular! Great friendly team, no wait, Look out for the marmots between the 1st station and the top. They have burrows right under the cable car. You can see the white rocks and earth they dig up so they’re pretty easy to spot.

The new Kohlmais (2018) is a comfortable cable car that brings you to the top of the mountain. The mountain itself offers various hikes and entertainment for kids (e.g. Montelino Trail). The view of the top is quite stunning.

Fast, modern lift with very nice views at the top station. Good possibilities for resting and food on the mountain. Make sure to check lift time operation. Operation stops quite early.

Hinterhag Alm is a must-visit spot in Saalbach, offering an incredible après-ski experience. It's renowned for its lively atmosphere, with guests enjoying the fun and relaxed vibe while singing along to live music from 4 pm to 7 pm. The venue can get quite crowded during après-ski hours, but it's worth experiencing the energetic ambiance. While the food and service at the restaurant are decent, it truly comes alive as an après-ski destination.
Well well well. Crazy place..... From 4 to 6pm the entertainment and ambience is absolutely OUTSTANDING. Not that it is good in any sensibel meaning of the word. But the entertainment and the ambience.... is different!

Joey I — Google review
While the after ski seems to be legendary in the area, the place is quite lackluster in the day. When we visited (during regular ski day), you had to have a table in order to get anything edible (like fries). However, since it was full, we couldn't get a table at the first floor. This, nothing to eat. We got something to drink, and while it was tasty enough, it's quite expensive compared to some other places in the area. If you must, go there for the after ski, but avoid it during the day. It's cozy though, I have to give it a plus for that.
Patrik H — Google review
So sad that this place have dropped the feeling it once had. My dad have been here since -89 and always talked about how good it was and this is the place for afterski and wanted to show me this place for my first time in Saalbach. Sadly there’s almost no people here and there are many slow songs. But Sweden makes the afterski go on! I really hope this place recover until our next trip here!

Great apres-ski location. But as it is crowded, It is better to book a table to be able to enjoy it comfortably. A band is playing live music everyday from 16:00 to 19:00. This is fun and entertaining, and the public is participating to the show. You need to be patient to get drinks as the bartenders are overwhelmed even if they do their best.

Del Rossi is a charming restaurant located in Saalbach with a cozy and stylish interior. The ambiance is lively, and the food is delightful, with options available for gluten-free meals. Visitors can enjoy prompt and friendly service while indulging in delicious dishes such as homemade burgers served with barbecue sauce and coleslaw. The modern decor adds to the overall experience, although some guests found the music slightly distracting.
Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We had a mixture of food between the group which all looked amazing, the rump steak was cooked to perfection and the raspberry and ice creme pudding was delicious! Overall it was good value for money too.

The food was good but….very unwelcoming elder women with a skirt even though we had a booking. We arrived for our reservation at 8, weren’t seated until 8:15 and were told that we couldn’t order desert because the kitchen had closed at 9:30? Our waiter, an elderly man, was lovely and so kind, but the menu was a bit strange. Supposedly an Italian restaurant but there’s no pasta on the menu?….and some of the dishes are called strange things, like ‘fake snails’ which was actually beef with fried cheese? Overall it was okay but a bit odd and hugely over priced :(
Neeve C — Google review
We visited this place twice for dinner and twice for coffee and dessert. We were always extremely satisfied, both with the food and with the staff, who were always very nice. If we go to Saalbach again, we will definitely go back to Del Rossi.

Nice ambiente. We had two different burgers. Both were just okay. Tiramisu at the end very good - recommend. Service when came was friendly, but kept us waiting with finished dishes and paying. Overall if you are looking for nice and cozy restaurant, go for it. If you are looking for good burgers, look elsewhere.

very bad spaghetti Bolognese. it is straw colored and thin like spaghetti for soup and not Bolognese. almost unsalted, and the meat for Bolognese tastes like it is made only from minced chicken or turkey. no fat or pork whatsoever. not enough tomato sauce or taste in the sauce either, it wasn't even red but orange and watery. this quality of food isn't even for kids school cafeteria much less the price of 17 euros. As I said, the ambient and waitress are great, especially since the waitress is serbian, she is very kind so i left her a tip regardless. and also they had me pay 2 euros for a half liter of tap water but at least she refilled it

Great value dining. Delicious and generous meals. We had a pizza Capricciosa (very large!) and the Spanish gambas pasta. Extensive wine list while also good value choices per glass. Swift and friendly service. Highly Recommended. Better to make a reservation via their website.

The restaurant Schattbergstube offers amazing cuisine of outstanding quality. The staff is exceptionally pleasant and considerate, ensuring a delightful dining experience. After a day on ski, we dined here twice. The place is centrally located and just behind the Schattberg X-press lift. The outdoor area is very nice, especially during a sunny day. Later we sat inside and it is also nice inside. The spice pizza was really good. It was not too hot for me, and it was perfectly made. The spare ribs could have more BBQ taste, but that said, they were also good. The portions were plentiful. We went there later for Kaiserschmarrn and hot chocolate and this tasted great! The staff was very friendly and the service was quick and good. I would go back there and can only recommend others to eat here.

Panorama Alm is a delightful establishment that offers a pleasant environment and excellent service. The staff, known for their kindness and efficiency, contribute to the positive atmosphere. This popular venue tends to be busy, even on rainy days. One can indulge in the superb pistachio liqueur and caesar crumble, both of which are highly recommended. The hut itself is situated in a fantastic location, accessible by either walking or taking a gondola ride followed by a scenic descent on foot.
Food is good, drinks are plenty and there are a lot to choose from. Service is also efficient. There is always a good vibe going and lots of places to sit both inside and outside - it is however very crowded during the afternoon but with a good location close to Saalbach city.
