Museums
The Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau is a former concentration camp in southwest Poland that serves as a site of mass atrocity, Holocaust remembrance, and education. It is a significant tourist attraction and offers guided educational tours to provide visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the tragic history within its walls. The museum is an important destination for millions of tourists visiting Krakow and stands as a remnant of one of the most horrific regimes in human history.
It's worth going here to get some understanding of the scale and suffering that Jews and others had handed out by the Nazis during their time in power. Walking around the camp just shows what man can do to fellow man. The suffering and death on an industrial scale. The museum does well to preserve the past so we don't forget. There is a lot of walking involved so plan ahead especially if you take a guided tour as they move quickly but do give you lots of information about the camp and the people who went through the gates, many for the last time.

Was a somber experience being in a place of death and torture, especially for my family members who endured this egregiously harsh and inhumane reality during WWII. We were never told to purchase tickets in advance so the museum was booked solid when we drove 3.5 hours from Warsaw to visit. The new Israeli owners, as crazy as it seems, have made it more difficult to gain entry with a walk in. We are able to observe the outskirts which was just as surreal and contained some valuable informative sights to see.

Incredibly somber and emotional experience. Seeing the scale of what happened here is overwhelming. We visited on a nice sunny day, but I couldn’t help but feel what the conditions must have felt like for those held within the camp during the harsh polish winters. A must see for anyone to remind us of what happened and try to ensure it can never happen again.

A huge museum, which is being restored to this day and is still being preserved. Book the tour in advance because you can get alone and for free only after 15:00. We got a very nice girl guide, it was very interesting and pleasant to listen to. We visited both camps, the total tour took about 4 hours. This place is very atmospheric, creepy. It is obligatory for everyone to visit, you need to know and not forget the history so that there are no more such things.

Probably one of the most badly organised tourist destinations in the world ! Always wanted to visit but was very disappointed, the complete cluster fxxk of the main entry, the inability to secure private tickets in advance via a official site, this resulted in almost 45 min to wait in a outdoor line until we could get to the ticket office and then another 2 hour wait until our time slot to actually get through the gate. I'd gladly pay €5-10 for advance tickets if I could get a guaranteed time to get in when I arrive. Once in there was no real flow or direction of what to see or what order to see it in. The official map was about as much use as sand in a desert, honestly a 5 year old could have drawn a better plan. Inside large tour groups dominated all the various things to see and we were often barged out of the way or unable to pass them while they blocked doors or things to see. My impression of the place has been ruined by visiting it and then when coming out, they don't even have clear signage where to get public transport back or a covered bus stop. The urban planner / architect who designed the new entrance and coach part obviously never tried visiting as a tourist.
Brenden B — Google review
This is a very sad experience. But I do recommend everyone to visit once in a lifetime. I learnt about it in a history lesson, but seeing it for real was just something else. The scale of it is just mad. There was 2 camps, second camp had more than 300 buildings. They were killing almost 5k people a day, in a gas chamber they fit 700 people at a time 😮 Its just crazy to see all the shoes of people who died there. And crazy to see the gas chamber. We all need to see the scale of it and learn from it so the history wont repeat itself... In the second camp, last building we entered was the barrack of ill women, it was called the death barrack, all of them were ill or unable to work, they were getting no food or water and if the barrack was full they were made to stay outside in a yard and wait to be taken to the gas chamber. Most of them died there in a barrack. It's so cruel. The free car park not in use. All car parks around is approx 30zloty. There is massive queue to get it, takes forever due to amount of people visiting. To get in need to go thru security like in the airport. Then there is audio tour. Our guide was not great, was hard to hear her as she didnt hold microphone properly. Was way too many people and very long backlog so we skipped quite few barracks. Once we got to second camp by bus our tour guide didnt wait for everyone so we got lost. Not very well organised tbh. After 1pm most days can visit camps without tour guides and it is free. This place would give chills to everyone.

Powerful to say the least! This was part of my bucket list of places to visit and WOW it did not disappoint. Moving does not do this place justice, understanding what the Jews, gypsies and other minorities went through during the Second World War, you can watch as many documentaries as you like but actually walking in their footsteps really does bring it home…..Unforgettable

One of the must see place if you are nearby. A piece of the most terrible european history, which shouldn't be forgotten. Very impressive. Get your ticket in advance on the web, as you can get guider in your language.

Historical place museum
The Memorial and Museum Auschwitz II-Birkenau is a solemn site that serves as a tribute to the 1.1 million people who perished in this Nazi concentration and extermination camp during World War II. The camp, which operated from 1942, saw the tragic deaths of European Jews from various countries, as well as prisoners of other nationalities and Soviet prisoners of war. Despite the destruction, the museum houses an extensive collection of original documents related to the camp's history.
One of the most harrowing experiences of my life. It is incredulous that that these rhings happened. I was part of a group and the guide's knowledge was second to none. It was almost as if he had been there himself.
Mark L — Google review
Very depressing place and the history of what happened. It is a must-see, however, I wish they showed more on how people were treated etc. A lot of the visit is looking at empty rooms etc. I'm not asking for decorations etc. But I would like to see some more gutting truth. Its a raw experience but I feel like it was underwhelming for what happened there.
Mateusz C — Google review
Incredible that we are able to visit this. The $38 ticket price for a tour system that's far too crowded & confusing to navigate, with a total of 5 hours wait in queue & for tour time makes this an endurance challenge. The burn out of all that & the relative sanitization removed the emotion one might experience. The guide was aloof & robotic. Given that, why not just have headsets with the many languages allowing people in without so much waiting.

Hard to post a positive, even more taking photos whilst here.. ❓ An emotionally draining experience, but something you gotta do whilst in Poland 🇵🇱. Would highly recommend doing it on your own as time ISN'T on your side if you go with a tour...

Really what can be said about this historically tragic place that hasn't already been said. The only thing I can add is we arrived late in the day when it was getting dark and much of the tour was in the dark. In most places that would be a disadvantage. But here it didnt matter. The images are already well known. The presence of the place can only be experienced. It doesnt matter if it is dark. The horror remains. Everyone should visit once.
Colm F — Google review
Visiting the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum is an experience I will never forget. The site is preserved with care and respect, and the guides provide powerful, factual insight into one of the darkest chapters of human history. It’s emotionally heavy, but incredibly important. This memorial stands as a reminder of the lives lost and the need to confront history honestly. Anyone who visits should come with humility and reflection.
Jack F — Google review
With all respect for what happened and the horrors of Nazism, Auschwitz-Birkenau left me with mixed feelings. After some time, you start to become detached from the horrors - seeing prisoners' belongings, photos of emaciated children, and hearing about Nazi practices doesn't leave as strong an impact as hearing real human stories about how people helped each other survive in this death factory. Most exhibits are on upper floors, making it difficult for disabled visitors. There isn't always a clear reason why things need to be on the second floor specifically. Hard to process everything when you're walking with other tour groups through narrow corridors, and what the guide is saying doesn't always match what you're seeing. Our Russian-speaking guide had a slight accent that sometimes made it difficult to understand, but she answered all questions and was very attentive and responsible - big thanks to her. I hope the museum will focus more on human stories and more real artifacts - I think that's what really allows you to feel the full horror and understand what we hoped never to see again, but unfortunately still see around us today.

The Memorial and Museum Auschwitz I, located in Oswiecim, is a solemn site that encompasses the preserved areas of the main camp Auschwitz and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. The museum section houses historical exhibits including photographs, documents, prisoners' clothing, and personal belongings.
Very moving and upsetting to see. Only negative thing i can say is that I felt we were rushed round and didn't have a chance to read the information provided. I suggest you take a photo of it and read at your leisure afterwards.

Amazingly preserved historical site the top crimes against humanity. Only fault is the inability to pre-book visit times with guides or online. We had to book a bus ride from Krakow at 5am, to get at gates for 6:30am opening. Wait in rain for ticket office to open at 7:30am to book our guide time of 8:30am. Some in group had to wait for 9:30am guided tour. 100s of visitors waiting for tickets in the rain.

We wont say to much on this as everyone will take from it some sort of memory although it is a very harrowing tour , i have added a few photos all in black and white as i think it helps tell and spread the whole story of what happened here , i deliberatly wanted to show the sign of the gate from inside the camp rather than the usual outside looking in photos to try and let us feel the atmosphere from behind the fence

I guess if your in this visiting this area of Poland it's worth the visit. Growing up and hearing, seeing, reading about the atrocities that took place, the scale of events it is saddening to say the least. Early August visit, worth booking your tour otherwise expect to queue. Worth having a tour guide as they explain everything as you go along the route.
Mad N — Google review
Our whole weekend away and experience of visiting Auschwitz was overcast by the lack of organisation here. Had to queue from 4am till 8 to get tickets, and had to take a Polish guide as the next English speaking guide group wasn't until 3pm. When you do eventually get in, it's just chaos. Thousands of people just trying to get round.Tour guides trying to get groups in to buildings that were already overcrowded. What should have been a day to reflect on what happened here, turned in mayhem. Walked away disappointed and also half ashamed that we couldn't feel the ambience of the place. I think maybe weekday visiting may be better.
Benn L — Google review
Terribly sad experience. I would recommend going with a tour guide as you can not enter the barracks without one. The stories you will be told will haunt you. Must see. Never forget.

If you are into your history. Then this is for you. I can not really disturb how it makes you feel. Or how to explain when I get asked what it is like? However I can tell you. You need to book a tour, which takes about 3 to 4 hours. Take ID with you. It cost about £25.00 pp You get to see both camps. It's about a 1.5-mile walk from the train station,

Extremely moving and intimate experience when being led in a group tour with a museum staff member. Absolutely book ahead of time via the authentic Aushwitz museum website to join in on a tour led by nuseum staff. If you cannot book ahead, arrive to the museum prior to opening and there will be same-day slots available for all small amount of tours in several languages, however they will book-up quickly. After 3pm you can tour the site on your own as an individual at your own pace, although I recommend arriving prior to 3pm to join the entry line. It is requested that you dress modestly and avoid bright colors. Use good footwear and expect a few kilometers of walking due to the sites being quite large. There are stairs involved and uneven ground (stones, gravel, rocks, slanted flooring/bricks, dirt). As permission to take pictures and/or video. Always practice respect. Bring some tissues and be prepared for entering buildings that the prisoners lived and died in. You will be led to walk through an enclosed gas chamber and viewing of the crematory. One building basement included in the tour includes the torture chambers, viewing of personal items such as luggage, eyeglasses, shoes, prosthetic limbs and 2 tones of human hair. There are information plaques and photographs of people that died within Auschwitz-Birkenau that are posted around the property that deserve to be read and appreciated. Prepare yourself to hear your museum staff tour guide provide very in-depth and gruesome details of each location they pause at. Take a moment to collect yourself, take a breath, self-care is important when attending this type of location and being given the detailed horrors that occurred on the grounds you walk.

Brzezinka, a village located in southern Poland, is situated just 3 kilometers from Oświęcim. This area holds historical significance as it was the site where prisoners of Auschwitz commenced the construction of Birkenau, an additional camp. The camp mainly comprised wooden barracks that offered little protection against harsh weather conditions like extreme cold and rain. Today, Brzezinka stands as a reminder of this dark chapter in history and attracts visitors interested in learning about its past.

No air conditioning at this hotel. OK I understand it's in Europe and not every place in Europe has air conditioning, but as it was 30° when we stayed here, it would at least be nice to have a fan in each room. However this wasn't the case. The front desk had a few fans for people who wanted to borrow them but not enough for all the rooms. Main lobby is air conditioned so why not the guest rooms too? Breakfast has very limited options compared with other hotels in Poland. At least everything was clean. All the pancakes served had a large amount of thick cream on them; it would have been better to have the pancskes and cream seperate and allow the guests to decide if they want cream or not. Restaurant on the ground level is very good. We did not try the spa facilities as we only had a 1 night stay so I can't comment on that.

Good looking restaurant with lots of seating places. We were quite early so it was mostly empty, but I don't think you'd have problems finding place here even in busier hours. Most importantly, food was delicious, though probably not the cheapest around here. Service could have been a bit faster, but at least staff was polite. All in all, not bad.

Great food and location. I had the "placki ziemniaczane" and I can honestly say that they even better then my ganny makes. One thing that i did not like is that i had to run after my waitress, we waited 40min to get our meals and the the wayress never came back to check up on us or even ask if we wanted desert.

Really slow service. Waited over an hour for food and drinks. Many people walked in after us and got served immediately. Eventually one salad turned up and when asked where rest of food was waiter was a little rude about it and basically said that the kitchen were too incompetent to send dishes out together or in a reasonable time. In addition to this the homemade lemonade was so bitter it was undrinkable and we had to send it back with instructions on how to make lemonade. Food was amazing tho. Really nice when it eventually arrived.

Very poor service, we have been to enjoy a dinner in nice looking restaurant and this is the only thing letting us to go there again. We popped in around 8.30pm nobody came to us till 9.10pm until my friend asked about service at the bar. When waitress arrived 5minutes later we have ordered 3 soups, plate of chef's rolls and siciliana tagliatelle, we go to the point lady servicing us said that we will wait for rolls around 15 minutes and asked us that soups can be served before the appetiser(rolls) so assumed that soups will arrive within 15min. We agreed, however the first part of our dinner b arrived after around 30min (still before that rolls😂😂😂😂) soups have been tasty - onion and sour soup(Żurek). So if we can count a time after finish of our first part of the meal passed around 1h 30min. Was about 10pm now - still no rolls🍴🍴🍴🍴, we have decided to go quickly for a break outside and strech the legs there. While arrived back to the table I found my tagliatelle(very ordinary, nothing special and only few prawns inside 3or 4 very small one) and no rolls which arrived few minutes later and all simple order took around 2 hours, the food wasn't nothing special and extraordinary and took unexpected time to serve in really messy order. We had also mulled beer, which we understand that isn't a season for it yet, however having a bar and to make other cocktails you have access to all necessary ingriedients to make it, we felt that waitress wasn't really interested to even ask a bar tender that is possible to make. Go to the end, impression is only on place, which is looking lovely and posh, apart of it, everything (soups where ok) was much below expectation, if I want to add Something extra, price for all this wasn't equal to service or food quality.

What an amazing restaurant Great outdoor sitting Very very friendly service Great choice of traditional Polish dishes, made with care The food? Top top top. The best quality, made like it should be, big portions If you're in the area (and even if you have to drive 1 hour to get here) you should not hesitate. Thank you to the whole crew. We visit my in-laws in the city a few times a year and this restaurant is now on our list for each visit (we already made reservations for tomorrow)

Lovely and delicious place! The portions are really big, and the price is absolutely worth it for the size of the dishes. The menu even mentions that the food might take some time to be served to ensure quality — and it’s definitely worth the wait. They even bring a little snack while you wait, and honestly, it didn’t feel like we waited that long at all.

Ristorante Pizzeria Taormina is an Italian restaurant situated near the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum in Oswiecim. It offers a variety of traditional Italian dishes, with a specialty in wood-fired pizzas. The restaurant's modern and stylish interior features colorful murals and comfortable seating. Guests are warmly welcomed by the passionate owner, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The attentive waitstaff adds to the pleasant dining experience.
Delicious gnocchi and very good pizza. The bigger size is truly huge and it's great to share. We had a good time and were pleasantly surprised to eat such good Italian food abroad from Italy, in a relatively small city.

My family and I had such a nice experience at this restaurant. Our waitress couldn’t speak English and we couldn’t speak Polish, but she was so kind and patient with us. We arrived late, but the owner graciously let us go ahead and order and made it clear that we didn’t have to rush. The food was wonderful! The pizza’s that we ordered were huge and delicious. My Caesar Salad was one of the best I have ever had. My family of five give this restaurant a 10 out of 10! We live in America so we probably won’t be able to return any time soon, but we highly recommend that you do!

I had the honour of visiting Taormina today with family members for a delicious meal. Upon arrival we are immediately greeted warmly by the boss and it is clear that he has passion not only for fantastic authentic food, but also for creating a relaxed and friendly environment for his guests. The waitresses are attentive and polite and also greet us with a smile. For these reasons I keep coming back year after year and have never once been disappointed. The prices are very reasonable and would gladly pay more for the quality of food. The menu itself is substantial, including something for everyone, including the classics, many varieties of pizza, fish and the occasional seasonal dish. I was delighted to learn that all of the pasta is home made, and you will know the difference when you try it! The vegetarian options are lovey and do not compromise on taste or quality. I do not exaggerate when I say the quality of the pizzas has become the high standard by which I measure all pizzas I try! Before my delicious vegetarian pizza (highly recommended) I treated myself to an aubergine starter which I am obsessed with. I have tried to replicate this recipe at home but there is no comparison to Taormina. Just as we are leaving, the boss calls us over to try the ice cream. How could I say no? However this was a bittersweet experience... the sicilian orange was beyond anything I've had before, and I know I can't buy anything this tasty at home!! 😭 It's a good thing I only bought one cone because I have no doubt I would happily consume this until I exploded! You MUST try this flavour!! My closing statements are as follows: Wonderful restaurant found in the heart of Oświęcim, run by a hard working family who strive for excellence. The boss will make you smile and can chat with you in at least 3 languages. If I was a rock star I would eat here every day. Najlepsza restauracja w całym Oświęcimiu 💚

Simply amazing. Everything we ordered and we came here 3 times in a row day after day so had a chance to taste a big variety of dishes (from pizzas through pasta to burgers), was really good, counting in lasagnea that was one of the best I had in my life. Inside and the garden are really climatic and comfy. Portions are good enough. Staff tries to make the experience the best but since the restaurant is quite big and on few levels sometimes it might be hard to catch them. at last but least are the prices. This place is quite pricey when compared to the normal restaurants in this area but in my opinion it is worth every penny.

The salad dressing was incredible when asked about it the chef literally gave the recipe of it. I am in so much of awe of the service that I would be happy to visit them again and again. Thank you for the hospitality. :)

This was a great experience probably the best meal we had on this trip so far and for sure one of the top 5 that we ever had. The service was top of the line, every recommendations that our host gave us was on the spot starting from the drinks up to specific items from the menu. My son is eating Cosher menu and got tired from plain burgers and spaghetti that he had on this trip, so the Chef came to us proposing to create one of the dishes out of the menu in a specific way that he would be able to eat it and it was great. So if you reading this and you in Poland I definitely recommend this great place.
