The Elevador Lacerda is a historic art deco elevator that provides scenic views while connecting the upper and lower parts of Salvador. It offers a convenient and affordable way to explore the old city center, with taxis, buses, and foot travel also being viable options. This iconic elevator was erected in the mid to late 1800s and showcases impressive Art Deco design from additional work done in the early 20th century.
It's a small pastry and ice cream shop situated right next to the elevator. I have to admit that the ice creams are delicious, generously served, and really cheap. You may choose to get them in a cone or a cup. The 'Pave' flavor is amazing! Pave is a Brazilian cake-like dessert.
Arkadiusz J — Google review
The City around the elevator is dangerous. The elevator looks good, but it's not spectacular to use.
Matheus Z — Google review
A tourist attraction with a lot of history. ⭐ The elevator is very fast and takes you to the upper city in a few seconds ⭐ We did not pay an entrance fee and did not have to wait in a queue ⭐ Nothing else to say or to do. Very straightforward. It is an elevator after all. But fun nonetheless! Also, prices for souvenirs in the upper city are cheaper than at Mercado Modelo!
B. N — Google review
Lacerda Elevator was the first urban elevator in the world when it opened on December 8, 1873 the 63 meters tall elevator takes you from lower town to upper town. A major tourist attractions and photo spot of Salvador. Great views of the bay and the governors palace.
Yrjö O — Google review
Beware of people who try to sell souvenirs and paint your body. They pretend it’s a freebie but will try to get as much as they can from you. Another advice, do not wear gold necklaces and such. Large groups or maybe with a guide is safer.
Rodrigo A — Google review
The history behind the construction is interesting, however it’s not a great place to go. Going up and down costs R$0,15 per visitor and the elevator is too crowded, hot as hell and smells sweat. Great view up there though.
Enzo — Google review
It's very cheap at only R$0.15, and conveniently located. It facilitates a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Pelourinho or from Pelourinho to the market. There may be a bit of a line depending on the time of day that you visit. Can also get a bit hot during the day. There are stunning views from the top, a very popular photo op spot, as well as a famous ice cream shop help you beat the heat. Can't miss it on a visit to Salvador and I definitely recommend taking it at least once.
Andre W — Google review
Better one to dine in. Beautiful ambient. Sitting area overlooking sun set and Mercado Modelo. It is right at exit of the upper level of Elevator. Best time to have ice cream is during sun set

Mercado Modelo is a popular market in Salvador, featuring over 250 shops offering a variety of arts, crafts, and souvenirs. The large yellow building housing the market is an example of neoclassical architecture and inside, elegant stone arches crown the alleys and streets. Visitors can also enjoy a view of the Bay of All Saints from a huge curved balcony covered in umbrellas.
Great tourist spot. Lots of little shops for souvenirs and food. There is a bigger restaurant overlooking the ocean. In the area are a few museums to visit. The large elevator is steps away. We came back here several times because there are so many things to do. We felt safe and they kept the area clean.
Roy M — Google review
Traditional port in Salvador. Lots of little shops to buy useless memorabilia for your house, family and friends. Beautiful view of the port and sunset from the second floor restaurant/bar - makes it worth the trip.
Henry G — Google review
Beautiful building and market by the marina. It’s worth a visit to browse through some souvenirs, however, little to no local and artisanal handicrafts. Also the vendors are quite pushy which ruined the shopping experience a little. In my opinion, there are other local vendors and artisanal shops around the city that offer better and unique handicrafts.
Randall R — Google review
Surprise experience that turned out to be the highlight of my day in the area. Amazing visual experience. Totally worth the short wait on the day I visited.
Rod N — Google review
Very touristy and a lot of stalls which sell exactly the same items. Nothing wow! Very nice terrace.
Tamara C — Google review
This is indeed one of the greatest and most know trademarks for anyone visiting Salvador for the first time. Currently, the market is passing by a renovation so its split in two different sections. But both have basically the same kind of products available. At first, I've thought this would be similar to São Paulo's Municipal Market; however, here you will find just two or three options of restaurants with most of the other places taken by souvenirs stores. It can be a great place if you're looking for this type of store but be attentive of the prices - you can similar items for huge price variance. Tip: things here are cheaper than most of the stores of Pelourinho. Extra tip: though the market itself may not be what you're expecting take the opportunity to visit the marine located a few steps of it. The view is stunning and a good place for nice photos.
Felipe L — Google review
Very busy market close to the cruise ship pier. Just a 5 minute walk. Definitely must see the underground museum for a small fee.
Jan T — Google review
Popular market featuring 250+ shops selling a variety of arts, crafts & souvenirs, plus restaurants. Mercado Modelo has bars, cafeterias and canteens. With 8,410 square meters and two floors, with gifts and souvenirs from Bahia The Mercado Modelo arose out of the need for a supply center in the Lower City of Salvador. Between the old Customs House building and Largo da Conceição, it was a commercial center where it was possible to acquire items as varied as fruit and vegetables, cereals, animals, cigars, cachaças, and Candomblé articles. Thus, the market was inaugurated on February 2, 1912[1] in a building next to the old Customs House building, which had been built in 1860 and inaugurated in 1861.[3] The market's supply was served by the ramp that bears its name, former port of the schooners that crossed the Bay of All Saints.

Nature & Parks
Farol da Barra Beach is a lively destination popular for swimming and sunbathing. It is home to the St. Anthony Fort and the historic Farol da Barra lighthouse, where Amerigo Vespucci arrived in 1501. The beach offers stunning views of All Saints Bay and the city, with amenities such as eateries, beach umbrellas, and loungers for rent.
My wife added this place to our list when we visited Salvador — and we’re glad she did. The lighthouse and old fortress are full of history, and there’s a great little surprise on the rooftop: a spot where you can enjoy tasty Brazilian food and drinks. If you go at the right time, the sunset view is absolutely unforgettable.
Soufian K — Google review
Must stay in this area very happening and lively neighbourhood. Good food options not much option for vegetarians, feels save due to police nearby. Beach is amazing you can go anytime you want. Rentals bicycle and mini scooters wil be available.
Farhat J — Google review
The place is very beautiful. Once inside, everything is clean, the view is stunning, and you feel safe. However, the place should have security for tourists. The vendors outside, desperate for your money like hungry hyenas, made the experience unpleasant. They tried to paint us with their products and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. It was truly a horrible experience. Therefore, I give the place a 2 out of 5.
Matt K — Google review
I love this place! It’s stunning, good for a walk and talk. I just take care always because one time someone tried to stolen my neckless and hurted me. Hopefully my friends could stop the guy and the drivers around helped as well.

Well, it’s a simple lighthouse but when the sun is setting, you are gonna enjoy the view and obviously by walking on the same boulevard you get plenty of things to eat and it’s nice

The Barra's Lighthouse is a postcard of Salvador City, at beach with the same name , is the oldest in Brazil but is in a great conservation status. The visit worth cause the historical value, the beautiful neighborhood and the stunning views when you climb until the top! At the building of the old fort, we visited the museum that explain the History of the Lighthouse since the 16th Century and an interesting pictures exposition.

Brazilian restaurant
Restaurante Casa de Tereza is a charming eatery located in the beach community of Rio Vermelho, Salvador. Housed in a beautifully restored colonial building, this restaurant offers Bahian cuisine with European and African influences. The menu features dishes like bobo de camarao and Vatapa, which showcase the fusion of flavors from different cultures. The rustic interior is adorned with colorful artworks and vintage decor, creating a cozy atmosphere for diners to enjoy their meals.
Great experience. One of the best meals we had in our three week holiday in Brazil. We went two evenings in a row to have the different moquecas. Delicious all the time. Had to wait maybe 30-40 mins for a table, but it was totally worth it. Good service, nice shop downstairs with fairly priced items.
Cristiana F — Google review
A very nice restaurant with a big variety of appetizers and main dishes. The drinks are good also and the place has a full bar. The waiter was a little off when we asked for the wine list twice and still never got it. He never said a thing when he let us order the siri pie on its own and it was also part of my main dish. And the fish was also the same as the other fish we ordered. The Doctor dish was so salty that it was hard to eat. The price is on very high, but overall it was still a nice meal.

Restaurante Casa de Teresa in Salvador offers an exceptional dining experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with tasteful decor that combines tradition and elegance. The dining room feels both lively and comfortable, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed meal or a special evening. The food is remarkable. Traditional Bahian dishes are prepared with care and presented beautifully. The moqueca in particular is rich in flavor and perfectly balanced, and the desserts are a highlight as well. Every detail, from the freshness of the ingredients to the presentation of each plate, shows real dedication. This is one of the best places in Salvador to enjoy local cuisine at a very high level.
Gianaurelio ( — Google review
Ordered the seafood moqueca and really enjoyed it—the flavor was rich, fresh seafood and super tasty. The dish itself was great, but the service was a letdown. The server didn’t seem too happy I was there, maybe just not too welcoming toward tourists. Seems like others have had similar experiences, which is a shame. Hopefully that’s something they can improve on, because the food is definitely worth trying.
Yee W — Google review
First of all we went because I’d eaten here around 3 years ago and it was excellent. This time tried to get reservations for Friday night but they weren’t accepting any more and said just to come in around 7 and we’d probably be seated in a few minutes. Got there just before 7 and it was mostly empty but the very unfriendly girl at the door said we’d have to wait and took our names. 2 hours later we were still waiting. Finally got seated and we chose the mixed salad and 2 different vegetarian plates; the jackfruit and what was listed on menu as “ long pasta with garlic and oil “. We sat there for over 30 minutes before the salad arrived. It was fair but the canned heart of palms were disappointing in a country that has fresh readily available. Around 30 minutes later the main dishes arrived. The jackfruit dish was very good, but on the small side. The pasta dish was despicably horrible slop. It was actually overcooked spaghetti with hardly any sign of olive oil or garlic or anything else. And it wasn’t cheap. To even serve this dish like that in ANY restaurant would be disgraceful, but even more so here in this “ iconic” “high reputation “ restaurant. The food was very overpriced, the restaurant was extremely loud to the point of not being able to have a conversation, and there wasn’t a friendly smiling face from anyone working there, and rudeness from the maitre’d. Wont go back and don’t recommend.
Dee ! — Google review
Good food and good vibes! The food was really good especially the bolinhos de feijoada! We had to pay for piano music - which was a bit funny
Bart — Google review
Delicious, well cooked food with incredible flavours and generous portions! A stunning restaurant with great service and super friendly staff. We had Mocqueca with prawns and one with soft shell crab - both incredibly tasty and great condiments. We also had the steak and the leg of lamb witch were cooked to perfection 🤩 We all left feeling like we all had a food experience worth the money! Highly recommend.
Recanto P — Google review
The place is amazing and the ambience is good. However, this one waiter named Cardoso is arrogant and impatient. He doesn't deserve the Service Fee, unlike Alexander, he is a good waiter. As an icon of gastronomy in Salvador, Cardoso shouldn’t be rude to his guests.

Amazing food and dining experience! Some of the best service I’ve had in Brazil, all the staff were gentlemen and I really appreciated the singing 😉 Definitely get the moqueca and some juices!!! The fruits at the end are also delicious!

If you're looking to savour the best of Bahia's culinary excellence, this is the place to go. It serves some of the best 'Moquecas' and natural fruit juices I've ever had the pleasure of trying. All their natural juices are picked from the Chef's garden, just below the restaurant. The highlight of the experience is when you are served a wide variety of fruit also picked straight from the Chef's garden. If you're in Salvador, you don't want to miss this place.

Spanish restaurant
La Taperia is a small, intimate Spanish-style tapas restaurant in Rio Vermelho with charming decor and delicious dishes. It's a popular spot for Bahian bohemians to enjoy good food and company. The restaurant has tapas as its flagship, but also offers paella.
Best prawns I've had in a long while. The flavours in the octopus/prawn stew were so rich and complex we had every last drop. Definitely recommend giving it a go. We don't speak much Portuguese so we just asked the waiter to feed us the best dishes and he certainly did. Also, the summer cocktails go down pretty easy😉

Tapas in Bahia? Had to try it. I was impressed! Service was friendly and attentive. Tapas were good-sized portions. Only needed two tapas for a meal for two people. The flavor of the food was excellent! The Sangria was fresh! I can't describe the many items decorating the restaurant. Eclectic. You have to see it!

Lovely place to dine with the locals! I’ve been in mine, took me here and, the music and vibes were excellent and the food was pretty good, too. Definitely recommend the tuna tartare, it comes in a heart shape!

It was Saturday night so the restaurant was really busy, we had to wait for thirty minutes to get the table. However the food was fantastic! Especially Octopus was my favorite! It was very soft and loved the combination with the bread and tomato salsa!!! They offered us a little shot of Pumpkin soup was really tasty too! We had one of the great meals there!

Delicious food and really nice pricing. I was happy because they had a menu in English, which I found is extremely rare in Salvador. The wine selection was nice and the overall aesthetic was really cool. Difficult parking.

Many interesting dishes, but it's difficult to find or identify them on the menu. The place gets crazy busy and chaotic at times. The last seating options in the main hallway are unpleasant.

We had dinner with friends at this place about 10 days ago. There were no issues with the quality of the food and variety. We all had the Rodizio (all you can eat meat and salad, etc.). The service was good with the stff being very attentive.

This steakhouse offers a unique dining experience with its continuous service of various meat cuts. The service was excellent, with a steady flow of hot, freshly grilled meats. The quality and taste of the beef and pork were outstanding, cooked to perfection and seasoned deliciously. However, not all the meat cuts made it to our table (for example - Picanha), which was disappointing. The prices are on the higher side, but the overall experience might justify the cost.
Eran I — Google review
Arrived at noon for lunch. Unfortunately they were serving reheated meats from the previous day. No high quality cuts anymore; all meats are generic grade. Seems like they have been cutting costs, as I remember it was much better years ago. If you go, I recommend arriving after 2pm to avoid being served reheated meats.

Seafood restaurant
Restaurante Mistura Contorno is a stylish eatery located in a preserved mansion with views of the marina. The opulent decor sets the stage for Chef Andrea Ribeiro's sophisticated menu, which focuses on seafood dishes like brodetto adriatico and ceviche with coconut water. The restaurant offers a fusion of fresh seafood flavors and Mediterranean classics, such as Moroccan couscous and squid-ink linguini topped with edible flowers.
I recommend this restaurant to everyone not only for the spectacular sea view but for the food, I felt in my country, Italy. Typical southern Italian wine, fresh food , right doses and balanced taste Friendly and professional workers. Typical Neapolitan espresso coffee ....the best!

Rebecca L — Google review
This elegant restaurant, nestled high on a hill in a condominium complex in the "Cidade Baixa", serves amazing shellfish and fish. Following the rather small couvert, my friend and I ordered the scallops as an appetizer, consisting of three scallops cooked in a delicious sauce and served on the half-shell. For our main entrees, my friend ordered the prawn risotto, not a risotto in the usual sense because the rice was presented braised in small cubes, each about the size of a Tater-Tot. Nevertheless, he was pleased with this entree, which we shared, and which was noteworthy for the medium sized prawns and the accompanying asparagus. I ordered, and we also split, the seafood assortment, which included two half lobsters, several large prawns, octopus, squid, and salmon. All of the seafood items on that platter were superb, with a special call out to the salmon, lobster, and prawns. The restaurant has a nice and fairly reasonably priced wine list. We ordered a crisp Chilean chardonnay that served as a perfect accompaniment to our seafood platters. Mistura Contorno is not inexpensive, even by U.S. fine restaurant standards. We each spent R$ 270 (about US$ 85 at the February 2018 exchange rate). But the value of the meal, along with the excellent service of the garçons, was well worth the price. Addendum on 4 March 2019: I had such a fond memory of Mistura Contorno that I returned to this restaurant today with a different friend. And we were not disappointed! Besides the amazing views, this restaurant looking out over the Todos Os Santos bay has some fabulous seafood. We started with a tender lobster as an appetizer, followed by a pasta adorned with baby clams and mussels. As the main dish, we enjoyed a combination seafood medley, including shrimp, squid, octopus, lobster, scallops, and salmon. We capped the dinner with a tasty dessert with bananas flambeed in a caramel sauce topped by vanilla ice cream. Of course, we enjoyed the Brazilian national drink, a traditional caipirinha made with cachaça, as well as a refreshing glass of an Italian white wine. Just as I noted in my 2018 review, I highly recommend Restaurante Mistura Contorno.
