Nestled in the picturesque Elqui Valley of Chile, the Gabriela Mistral Museum stands as a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of the renowned poet, diplomat, and educator. Established in 1971, this charming museum showcases an array of exhibitions that delve into various facets of Mistral's journey—from her humble beginnings to her impactful public life and spiritual beliefs. Interesante para los chilenos. Lugar bien mantenido, gratuito, moderno. Great historical birthplace and museum complex of Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral. Nice complex. Free entrance. Interesting place.

There is only two days in the week to visit (tuesday and thursday) and two hours to enter (11:00 - 12:00 and 15:00 - 16:00) and besides you have book your visit in a webpage so is nearly impossible to give it a try.

Aside from samplings, this Pisco distillery provides guided visits of its extensive establishment. Regrettably, it was not accessible for tours. However, there were appealing stores and exceptional bargains on various Pisco products. Additionally, the Centro Turístico Capel offers enlightening excursions around their production plant facilitated by friendly and patient guides. Overall, visitors can enjoy a delightful experience exploring this popular tourist attraction.
Cool little place. Location is beautiful. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Plus you get to drink pisco. Lovely.

My wife and I went on a Wednesday afternoon in August. Got there a little after 12pm. When we arrived tgey said there was no one there to lead a tour in English. We were disappointed, but as we were walking around the property, a young woman (sorry, we forgot her name) found us and offered to lead us on a tour in English. It was wonderful and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!! Thank you for the great time and the samples at the end of the tour, of course!!
Chris M — Google review
We visited the distillery and booked the tasting. The whole tour and tasting took about 1 hour. It was very interesting to see how pisco is made and then taste it. I definitely recommend to do tour and a tasting when you're in this area!
Thies D — Google review
Tour was good enough, they give you some free samples but very few. I would say the best is that prices are very very low. You can get some alcohol for less than a dollar. I still preffer the yours on the homemade licours, they are more friendly, more detailed, they give more free samples and also they are usually higher quality. Still, don't miss this one.
Reinaldo C — Google review
Great place to visit and include in your trip to north of Chile! I would recommend to join a guided tour with degustation of pisco products, try their food and buy some bottles as souvenirs for your friends/family (prices there are twice cheaper than in any supermarket or “botellerias”)
Margarita R — Google review
Open until 6pm, as per the website, but the last tour was hours beforehand - why is this not mentioned on the website which makes it sound like tours go all day? You can't do anything but buy bottles to take home without a tour (no pisco museum, no tasting, nothing). A complete waste of time, which I could have used to visit somewhere else. -No, the last tour was NOT "one and a half hours before closing" according to the on-site employee.

Mirador cerro de La Virgen de Vicuña, located at Immaculate Conception Church on Gabriela Mistral street, offers a serene space for prayer and contemplation. The church, inaugurated in 1909, showcases stunning sky paintings in its main nave created by students of the School of Fine Arts in Santiago using colored earth from the area. Visitors can admire the picturesque view of Vicuña from this elevated vantage point.
Loved going to visit the virgen up to this view place. Just a short drive from the town, gravel road. I didnt like the huge antennas arpund her thou!

Nice view. Many reviews complain that the hike is short, but there's a trail that starts on the other side of the monument for a much longer hike if you are interested in that. I decided to extend my hike and had a lovely time. I also may have been a bit disappointed without it, due to the short hike to the viewing spot.

Centro Astronomico Alfa Aldea, located just outside of Vicuna, offers incredible guided tours in a small group setting. Visitors have access to telescopes and can enjoy a 3D video tour of the galaxies while sipping on a glass of wine. The center also provides accommodation options including camping facilities for tents and motorhomes, as well as rooms for overnight stays. The amenities include clean bathrooms with hot water, a swimming pool, and a cafeteria surrounded by vineyards.
My partner and I stayed five nights at this wonderful hotel, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. The hotel is attended by its own owners, who were incredibly friendly, kind, and thoughtful about every detail we needed during our stay. Their hospitality truly made a difference and made us feel at home. The included breakfast was absolutely delicious, with a great variety to start each day right. On top of that, the price for the stay was very affordable, making it an excellent value. One of the highlights of our trip was the astronomic tour—an amazing experience that we highly recommend to anyone staying here. The pool was also very nice, and we spent a lot of time relaxing and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. We had a fantastic time and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable stay!

We’ve got there together with my family through a recommendation. Easy place to find, not far from the main town. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, easy to follow the information and in a fun way to explain. Super recommended activity if you staying around Valle del Elqui. I would recommend to visit in a night without the Moon so you will see a bit more of the stars and constellation but to see the moon on the telescope was also incredible.
Belen A — Google review
We stayed for two nights in our camper van. Our pitch was in their vineyard. Electricity, water, swimming pool and decent toilet block. Astronomical tour was very good - quite personal and low key and we learnt a lot.

We stayed here for 3 nights with a car and rooftop tent. Very relaxing atmosphere, friendly people, big kitchen, nice swimming pool and good coffee. Camping was not expensive. Stargazing tour was very interesting. Recommend to stay here!
Yves R — Google review
This is one of my favorite places to do an astronomy tour in the area. They always make you feel at home and are very good at explaining what you’re seeing in the skies and well as some general background about astronomy. The glass of wine and a hot soup during the tour are nice touches.
Crystal M — Google review
Where to begin.. Alfa Aldea is magical. I arrived here in a camper van planning to stay two nights and ended up staying for over a week. Marco and his family have created a wonderful venue for astronomy tours and star gazing (Juan is highly knowledgeable with all things astronomy as he is studying astronomy in La Serena), camping/lodging, coffee shop, pool, adventuring… the list goes on. Vicuña is a great town for exploring the rest of Valle de Elqui. I look forward to spending more time at Alfa Aldea in the future. This is must do when in Valle de Elqui.
Alexandra S — Google review
We had a great evening with our family of four at Alfa Aldea. Our guide, Hugo, speaks excellent English and made complex astronomy concepts into easily digestible explanations. We learned how to identify the Southern Cross, looked at the moon and other sights in the night sky through the telescope, and for just $5 extra got an awesome family photo with the night sky as a background. Highly recommended!
Kathy S — Google review
Nice and homie experience, we went there for a '18 de Septiembre' long weekend EXCLUSIVELY for the world-acclamed night sky of the area, what a perfect place to stay at a small astronomic center/hostel right? well...Cloudy with a chance of sunrays. all weekend. Yes, a drag. But what made the entire trip worth it was the hospitality of Marco (owner) and his enthisiasm for the sky. He took out his solar lenses and gave us a really cool speech of what we were watching.

Observatory

Observatories & Planetariums
The Office Mamalluca Observatory is a popular tourist destination set in a stunning mountain location, renowned for its clear skies. Visitors can enjoy educational displays and take part in evening tours that offer an introductory class to astronomy and constellations, as well as the opportunity to observe stars through large telescopes. The observatory's high elevation and minimal pollution make it one of the best places globally for stargazing. Tours include outdoor constellation descriptions using laser pointers, moon photography, and theoretical PowerPoint presentations.
Buy tickets in advance but even then show up at 6:30 pm to pick them up. First day we missed this windows as online it says 1 hour ahead and not 6:30z either way they were super accommodating and helpful. Beautiful skies

A must visit if you are in the area. We were in Ruben's group and he was a wealth of knowledge. The tour is ideal and the team are very insightful
Tim V — Google review
We saw the Milky Way with our naked eyes. The sky is so clear here. We also saw Jupiter & its moons, plus Saturn rings and several nebuli in the telescopes. So beautiful! The guide spoke excellent English and gave great explanations of constellations. Make sure to wear warm clothing because it gets cold in the mountain at night.
Construccion S — Google review
They sure have a weird system for ticketing, in that you make your reservation online and THEN you show up at a specific time the evening of your reservation to stand in line to buy tickets and transport, then wait another 30 minutes before being transported. The facilities were alright, but we were in a group with 20 other people so there's a lot of standing around waiting for your turn to look through the telescopes. Guides are passionate and made it interesting. Overall it was nice enough, but not sure it's a must-visit.

The rigamarole to actually get your tickets is a complete fiasco - read on for details. However, everyone we dealt with both at the office and the Observatory were very friendly and helpful so the system is NOT their fault. Posted hours online are a work of fiction but from reviews we gathered that they'd be open a little before the tours begin so we turned up just before the 6pm tour as we wanted to get our tickets for the 8:30 tour. Yes, you're reading this correctly. You don't actually get a ticket when you book online so you have to go to the office to do so, along with all the other people who booked so you get to stand in a nice long line to actually pay. Yes, you're reading this correctly. You cannot pay online. Sigh. Oh, and don't bother trying to get your 8:30 tickets around 6pm. You're reading this correctly. You have to queue up around 8pm with all the other people, etc. The bus to the actual Observatory costs an additional 7,000 clp, an absolute ripoff. Google maps works fine if you have your own transport, with one caveat: it says you are there about 50 yards short of the actual entrance gate. Show your ticket for entry to the parking lot. OK, so you've gone thru all the steps to get your ticket, and you've driven there, arriving at 8:30 on time for your tour. On the night we went, the tour didn't start until 9:20 but who knows on your night. Finally the tour: our guide was fantastic and the information he gave very interesting. Looking at the moon and stars was amazing.
Phil M — Google review
Horrible system. This place requires you to reserve tickets in advance, yet you have to go half an hour before your observatory tour starts to pick up your tickets, so far so good? Nope, when you arrive there will be a queue of people and most of them won't have a reservation and the people who work there will take them anyways (in fear of being treated as mean for not taking customers with no reservation) which causes the people with a reservation to wait for around 40 minutes, when they could just sell you the tickets when you make the reservation...or have two queues...or sell them online...unlimited options! We even had an older woman cutting the line twice, taking a very long time and when we had enough and told her to have some respect for other people's time she said "learn to live life...you are young" I guess if you know how to live, skip lines, and have no respect for others maybe go there and you will have a great experience for me it was not. Also the observatory was cheap but you get what you paid for, very crowded and tired tour guides, we where lucky to join an English tour with a great guide but most experiences are not like that.

The food at Restaurante La Torre Vicuña is exquisite and satisfying. The chicken dish I tried was delicious, tender, and juicy. Other dishes I sampled also pleasantly surprised me. The staff provides excellent service in a welcoming atmosphere. With affordable prices, I would gladly visit this restaurant countless times. Restaurante Paraiso del Elqui is a delightful culinary gem nestled in the charming city of Vicuña, Chile. This eatery specializes in an impressive array of regional dishes that showcase the rich flavors of northern Chilean cuisine. The freshness of the ingredients shines through in every bite, making each meal a memorable experience. Guests can enjoy their meals on a lovely terrace surrounded by palm trees, creating a serene atmosphere perfect for savoring delicious food.
(Translated by Google) Getting “good food” in remote places in Chile is sometimes very difficult. Mainly meat, from whatever animal, very often fried or fried, fatty and with a side dish of fried potatoes. Or empanadas where only the chef knows what's really in them. The Chilean seems to have gotten very used to hot dogs, burgers, pizza, ice cream - unfortunately! After many disappointments in Vicuña, we finally had dinner here, which was really delicious!! I'm not a vegetarian (which would be difficult in this country), but I was more than satisfied with my meal, including the starter. Fresh, well prepared and sufficient quantity (a very large menu with many dishes). It's a shame that within a week we only discovered this recommended restaurant on the last evening. Note: it would be nice to make more of the rear garden area so that dining and lounging can be done there too.

The lady who served us, very friendly and had nothing to say about her, took our order; And here the problems continued, my sister ordered a vegetarian dish and I ordered pomegranate beans, they invented my sister's dish because it did not exist on the menu and when my food arrived it was still frozen and had a sour smell. They asked for a change because it was impossible to eat, so they brought me this chicken with fries, too greasy and black, giving the impression that they didn't even clean the iron, in addition, ketchup was requested and a hair came out on it, just disgusting. Not forgetting the dirty cutlery and glasses that we had to clean ourselves with alcohol gel. We asked to speak to the manager (who had terrible hygiene) to resolve this situation, to which he responded arrogantly, as if it were our fault that his food was bad. Good place to eat because the tables are in an open patio when you come into this restaurant. The service is good and although the dishes are pretty classic they are of good quality. Nothing out of the ordinary thou

(Translated by Google) We went as a family, the food was good but nothing that stood out, we ordered reineta with French fries which were natural (+++), silver platter with avocado-tomato-palm hearts salad... the silver platter was bland... the palm hearts salad came with vinegar.. (-), we ordered beef casserole... it was good but lacked affection... bland natural juices... the bill came to $57,000 with tip... In short, it is not a bad restaurant, it does not stand out and the prices are average.

(Translated by Google) It's an old case that looked good. The old bathrooms without light but very clean. Good service, later I understood that it was to compensate for the expensiveness of the place. We ordered 2 plates of grilled salmon with squid sauce? $13,500 each. A plate of a breast fillet with fries 6000 (kid's menu) and a mechada with puree nothing from the world; 10 lucas and 2 drinks 1800 each. I don't go back there for anything. In general I felt that in Vicuña they beat you up a lot. NEXT. NEXT.

Great food, nice service and large portions. Some of the best food we’ve had in two weeks in Chile. A bit on the expensive side but worth it!

For eat meat in this place pieces are insufficient, portions are for 2 person and classic steak cuts are disgusting. I'm sorry for the steward cause she was so empathy but this place is a great waste of time and steak cuts are deficient and bad.

Old food, too many flies. Our lunch was more expensive than a dinner for the same people at Avenida del Mar in La Serena, and that's prime location. Sad, we wanted to support local business.

(Translated by Google) We ordered a barbecue and it was good, normal, but the attention of the waiter named Francisco left a lot to be desired, he served without enthusiasm, he had a displeased face, he didn't fish, the service was very slow, he brought us very hard bread and it wasn't fresh, he didn't know what was available, he brought us incomplete orders, it took a long time, we arrived at 4 and asked for the sign outside that said that the pool could be occupied and they told us no because they were Closing, we ordered things that never arrived on the table. I'm going to assume that they were very tired from the national holidays and just wanted to leave, but we didn't go with a bad experience and no desire to return.

(Translated by Google) TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. More than 1 hour of waiting from the moment I ordered until the dish of mechada with rice arrives (with a whole carrot stuck in the dried and overcooked meat) At the next table a guy ordered a fried empanada and the waiter apologized profusely for bringing it out 40 minutes later. Well, anyway... terrible service, very poor food and prices are average to above.

(Translated by Google) We ordered ceviche, which was quite tasty, although it could have been colder. The children's menu, although somewhat priced, was quite comprehensive (including breakfast and dessert). The best thing was the setting, and to use the pools, you have to pay extra. The bathrooms were averagely clean. It's a nice place to spend the afternoon with the family, eat, and then sunbathe and cool off in the pool.
