The Basílica de Santa María de la Asunción, located in Plaza del Cabildo, is a stunning church with a mix of architectural styles. Its southern facade features an elaborate 18th-century Baroque belfry, while the west side boasts a beautifully carved Plateresque doorway. The interior is a treasure trove of ornate Baroque choir stalls, intricate vaulting, and a lavish Renaissance altarpiece.
Smaller church on top of the hill and took about 10-15min from the center of the town. Slippery roads when wet but with majestic view of the valley down below. Overall we like this white village but can the residents clean up their dog poops? These land mines were everywhere.

This was our third visit to Arcos de la Frontera and the first time the church was open and it did not disappoint with lots of beautiful artwork and a beautiful alter. Admission was just €2. This is a late Gothic hall-church, with three naves of equal height and a monumental curved apse. The naves are separated by circular pillars made of beamed rods, supporting complex star-ribbed vaults. Although everything inside is worthy of admiration, it is worth noting the Retablo Mayor, an altarpiece which is a true Renaissance jewel; the Gothic mural painting; the uncorrupted mummy of San Felix; the Nieves chapel which houses the image of the patron of Arcos; the extravagant organ and the choir, considered one of the best in Andalusia.

This basilica is a beautiful display of how rich this region used to be during the 14 - 17th century. Almost everything here is made of gold. And the scale of the carvings and central display is huge. Additionally, the viewing tower is a definite must to see and hear. There are many bells on the top that sing every hour. And the views of the area can be captured here on the tower. Overall, this is a must visit when in Arcos.
C N — Google review
You can't come to Arcod de la Frontera without going up the tower of this church! Amazing views and the church itself is a delight.
Daniel ( — Google review
Did not go in as it was closed but it is beautiful from the outside too
P G — Google review
Impressive church from out and inn. And the church bell tower is worth special attention. It is worth to climb 100 steps for breathtaking views of the town and surroundings. One of the best tower views you can find in Spain!

Beautiful basilica on top of the hill! Beautiful small white hill town of Arcos 1hr fr Seville. Love the hill town, the food (payoya cheese and conejo) and the scenery ( Parador, Basilica, white houses view of the Guadalete river)
Dexter C — Google review
This largely Gothic styled church was built around the 15th century. It sits atop the limestone cliffs of Arcos on Plaza del Cabildo - a square which is essentially a carpark and also the location of the Parador de Turismo. You'll be rewarded with some great views overlooking the countryside from the mirador or visit the bar in the Parador for an even better view and a refreshing drink after the steep climb to get here. If you're mobility restricted there is a small car park here and also taxis (probably the best option as the street are very narrow in places).

Mirador de Abades is a popular spot in Arcos de la Frontera, Andalusia, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Located at the top end of the village, it provides a different perspective compared to Mirador Plaza del Cabildo. The viewpoint overlooks the reservoir and river, providing an overwhelming and beautiful sight. The walk up to Mirador de Abades is described as lovely, passing through the charming Old Town and offering wonderful countryside views.
This gives a different viewpoint than the Mirador Cabildo and looks over the reservoir and river. It is a long cobbly walk up here past previous viewpoint but very well worth it and their is benches to sit and relax

Arcos de la Frontera is a beautiful hilltop town in Cádiz with lovely narrow streets and is a delight to stroll around. There are many attractions like the Basilicas de Santa Maria, Parador and fine bars and restaurants. It is a reasonable climb up to the top and as you walk down the narrow streets you come on to this mirador with fantastic views north to the Embalse and south to the Rio Gualalette and the beautiful and fertile Cádiz country side. A really nice spot to relax and take in the views and take some photos.
Liam C — Google review
Beautiful views 😍 The square by the Parador hotel is currently closed, so it's worth an extra 10 minutes walk through the wonderful streets to get here
Rich H — Google review
If you're going to Arcos, you're definitely will go to Mirador Plaza del Cabildo. But I would say the virw you get from from Mirador de Abades is way better and quite overwhelming. But watch out the the descent is quite steep
Mariia K — Google review
Unexpected, even when we knew to expect it, the viewpoint (mirador) opens to the vast expanse around and below. Arcos de la Frontier is a treat to visit. Wander its steep and enclosed streets then burst out to this mirador to top it off.

Really very nice and wide views. The old town is also excellent to visit.

The Iglesia de San Pedro is a stunning example of late Gothic religious architecture, featuring a majestic baroque style tower-facade. Inside, visitors can admire harmonious side chapels, an 18th century baroque choir, and a main altarpiece with Gothic and Renaissance elements.
Very beautiful church with a great main altar and interesting chapels at the side. Don't miss it when visiting Arcos de la Frontera!

The Church of San Pedro in Arcos de la Frontera was built in the 14th century on the remains of an ancient Arab fortress. The main facade is Baroque from the 18th century influenced by the Sevillian School. The interior, with a rectangular plan has Gothic elements such as the vault and six chapels added during the centuries after its construction.
Liam C — Google review
The 16th century Iglesia de San Pedro in Arcos de la Frontera, Spain, was built on the remains of a 14th century collegiate church which itself was preceded by a 12th century Almohad fortress. The Barrio Bajo is below the cliff. The church has an 18th century baroque facade. Saint Peter sits enthroned on the cornice above the entrance.

I think I saw the merge between Moorish and Christian splendour in this building, but I was bound in a spell. Absolutely grand outside.
M C — Google review
The skills needed for this place. Absolutely spectacular. The skeletons of saints on display in glass cases is creepy though...
Dan F — Google review
An amazingly beautiful medieval church with it's rich interior still intact. One thing that I found intriguing was the two skeletons dressed up in gorgeous clothes with precious stones and jewellery on the two sides of the main altar.
Viktor K — Google review
Wonderfull church. Not very big, but nice. We were happy to be alone inside, just one gentleman was busy with restauration of a piece of decoration. Quiet place to excape from the heat of the sun outside. Worth 2 Euro entrance fee.

Taberna Jóvenes Flamencos is a charming spot offering a variety of Mediterranean, European, and Spanish dishes. Whether you're into vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options, this place has got you covered. The interior boasts a taurine style with flamenco touches while the small terrace exudes great charm with its typical flower pots hanging on the wall. Located on the bustling street in Arcos de la Frontera, it's perfect for casual tapas both inside and outside.
Called in for a snack, ordered three things, ate nine - phew! Great place. Warm, friendly service and fantastic food. The local olive oil with bread, and recommended local goat cheeses, were of superb quality and particularly memorable. Just go in, sit down, and let them feed you. It's what they do. And they do it very well. Characterful decor too.

We had a very lazy lunch there. The food was very tasty. We ordered an extra dish upon the waiter's recommendation and that may have been a bit too much. Food was a bit slow, but we enjoyed sitting outside and sipping on wine while waiting.

We went for dinner at this cozy taverna. Warm and welcoming. Being vegetarian is always difficult when choosing somewhere to eat but we were spoilt for choice! The food was delicious, good value for money too and the service excellent. We were welcomed warmly and the staff were friendly and efficient. Highly recommend it.

Excellent food. We tasted, among other dishes, a few delicious local foods, including a soup, a dish made with bread, asparagus and eggs, and a lamb stew made with a fantastic mixture of spices. Unfortunately we didn’t take notes and so we don’t know the names of these dishes. But you can do as we did, and trust the advice of Laura, the very nice and knowledgeable owner, that runs the place with pride and gusto. "Os quatro Portugueses" 17/03/2025

We had an amazing experience at this place! We were invited to sit inside with our dog and she was offered a blanked to lay on, water and cookies! They are Soooo Nice. And the food was also amazing! They have a lot of dishes without meat as well! Loved this place, go there!

This is a highly recommended place! I ordered local slow-cooked beef and fried eggplant with goat cheese and honey. Both were exceptional! Thank you for the little dessert treat after the meal!

Visited based on recommendations. Was supposed to open at 7pm and we arrived at 7.30. Waiter ignored us for 30 minutes while he set up and wiped tables. Food disappointing. Cheese salad was iceberg lettuce swimming in water with 1 slice of cheese a few nuts and seeds. Partner had local lamb stew which was tasty but full of bones and gristle. Much better and friendlier places around.

Nice restaurant in the old town. We wanted to try the local abajao dish, but sadly they were out of ingredients. So we had the timbal which was very nice. The salmorejo too was tasty. The patatas bravas were OK (nothing special). The decor is nice too and this taverna is a good place to stop and eat while exploring the town.

Visitors have praised the attentive and friendly service, as well as the high standard of food. The venue offers a great selection of wines, including local options, making it a must-visit for gastronomy lovers.
What an amazing experience on our penultimate day. The evening started with the amazing waitress and went on to be just as amazing food wise. We had an excellent combination of small tasteful dishes and will definitely come back once in Spain :)

Cute restaurant in old town Arcos. Ordered squid with black rice and pork along with a bottle of white wine. The black rice was delicious and the portion was good. The restaurant is very busy with limited staff working. It is best to have a reservation for dinner.

The two ladies who run this place are so kind. Food was superb and service excellent. Atmosphere inside is a little lacking but outside tables looked lovely. Dessert selection was fab (chocolate brownie cake in particular was a fave).

We had lunch in on a day trip to Arcos. It was packed inside as a car club was also lunching. The service was excellent & the portion sizes large. My vegetabledish was so huge it was hard to get through my delicious risotto. My partner enjoyed his prawn balls & pork belly. It was a good price.
Julie K — Google review
Very friendly service and food freshly prepared and delicious. We ordered the dorado and mushroom risotto and both were delicious. Wine from Cadiz was also very good as were the deserts. Overall very reasonable prices for quality food and drink with excellent service.

We arrived with moderate expectations and both the food and the service exceed greatly them! All the choices of tuna were spectacular and the service was warm and candid. We got served by Noemí, who was spontaneous and gave us great recommendations, thanks! If I come back around town, I'm definitely coming back!

Amazing food, great service and just an overall fantastic time! We managed to get seats outside and order some of the chefs suggestions. The fish was fresh and everything was plated nicely. I would recommend you visit if you can.

Aljibe Restaurante in Arcos de la Frontera offers top-notch service and expert guidance on their menu. The restaurant prides itself on using high-quality ingredients to create a fusion of Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine, providing a dining experience that reflects the city's rich history. The cozy atmosphere complements the culinary delights, making it a must-visit for those seeking traditional and historic flavors.
Such an amazing experience we ate here both nights we were in Arcos. The inventive and delicious menu is an outstanding blend of Mediterranean cooking with some of the best dishes of Andalucía and a touch of Morocco. I highly recommend the glazed beef rib and ensaladilla de gambas. The wine list is also outstanding. The restaurant is stunning and cozy. But what was really special was the fantastic service provided by the entire staff - especially Christina. The hospitality was warm and knowledgeable and truly unforgettable.

Perfect food and perfect service! I'm gluten and dairy intolerant so I asked for help with my order and they also gave me their allergen menu and reassured me about what I could eat, and brought me gluten free garlic bread. We received a potato salad as a free starter (entirely made from local ingredients) which was so good that we ordered more. My friend is vegeterian and he also had many options to choose from. My dry aged beef steak was perfect. We also received two gluten and dairy free biscuits to take home. I also need to mention great wine and great ambience. I can't wait to go back again!

Delicious!! Very fresh and flavorful food. I got the Mediterranean pizza and my mom got the white gazpacho and hummus and chips. Samuel gave us great service as well. We will be dreaming of this food once we are back in the states 😅

Outstanding Arab restaurant, maybe the best we've ever been to. All five dishes we had were delicious, especially the chicken pastela and the lamb tajine. The portions are big. For two people, I would recommend sharing two starters, one main dish and one dessert. Both the food presentation and the interior decoration exude an understated elegance, with lots of attention to details. Highly recommended.

Don’t you love finding a place where the team truly enjoys hosting you and the food is outstanding? This was the highlight of our family Sunday lunch. The menu had something for everyone, from picky kids to a vegan, and the meat dishes were simply exceptional. The local gazpacho soup, made with their own recipe, was another great highlight. The wine list offered excellent choices, and the ambiance was just perfect. A little hidden jewel in Arcos de la Frontera.
Anie F — Google review
Delicious food and exceptional service. We shared the house salad with lettuce, tomato and dried tuna fish to start and then had the pasta with artichoke and truffle oil, and the lamb tajine. The later is one of my all time favorite foods and this was truly delicious. They have a very good cook, and outstanding service. I write these reviews because I read them, too - see my others.

We had the good fortune of choosing Aljibe in Arcos de La Frontera, because it was close to our hotel. We were treated to personal and attentive service by the proprietor, and her assistants and enjoyed creative dishes made from regional fresh ingredients. We were 6 hungry cyclists and had dinner at the family table number 11. I won’t mention specific dishes because everything we had was delicious. As we were leaving, we agreed that this was one of the top 10 restaurants we had eaten at anywhere and the best one we had been to in Spain.

La Cárcel is a highly regarded restaurant and bar in Arcos de la Frontera, known for its tranquil atmosphere, quality service, and generous portions. The menu features high-quality dishes with a mix of traditional and contemporary flavors. Notable items include the typical Arcos de la Frontera embarrado cheese, tuna tataki, picadillo soup, fried artichokes, and coquinas.
Great spot for some authentic food. I had the croquetas de caña de lomo, the tuna steak and dessert tarta de turrón and it was all delicious! Plus the staff were superb! Well recommended 👌🏻

delicious little restaurant in the middle of a very small street. we ate outside, the service was exceptional, the waiters were very friendly and took the time to communicate with us (as we barely speak Spanish but understand it well). The portions are generous, the food is fresh and tasty. The one star missing is for the drinks : the white wine and the sangria that we ordered didn’t taste much, but overall we had a great time! we paid 57€ for 1 « media » (1/2 portion) entrance, 2 main dishes, 2 glasses of white wine and 2 sangrias.
Louise M — Google review
Some of the best food we've had in almost a month of travels in Spain. Off the menu for a tuna steak, pork chops with sherry gravy, sautéed mushrooms with truffles and egg yolk. Local wine was excellent. Real care and attention to quality and service. What a relief after the tourist traps of Sevilla!
Elliot B — Google review
TOURIST BEWARE We had eaten here before. Google says the place is open for dinner and confirmed by this business. When my wife and I went at 8 the waiter snickered and told us it doesnt open until 8:30. So we went elsewhere. Plenty of other places HAPPY to accept your money. Making customers feel stupid and laughing at them is no way to run a business.
Jim D — Google review
Located near the top of the hill along the main tourist route, La Cárcel is a great place for lunch or dinner. The food is excellent and extremely well priced. The warm goat cheese and homemade red pepper jam is outrageously decadent and an excellent plate to share. The staff are very friendly and the timing of delivery for multiple dishes excellent. The location is on a narrower part of the street so its not the best for outdoor dining and you might want to try somewhere further along the road if that is what you are after. Inside is bright and clean.
Steven — Google review
We stopped here for some tapas before going to Arcos de la Frontera. Everything was delicious and super cheap. The crockettes cooked in a pot were the best we've had in our trip so far. The king prawn puff pastry were also delicious. They were like mini egg rolls. The date and cheese puff pastry was also good but very rich. If we were to come again we'd pick a dish with fresh seafood instead of three fried tapas.

Food was really good for value. I recommend retinta beef sirloin and tomato kumato with anchovies, red onion, and wakame. The waiters were friendly and food was served quick.

Meson la Placita in Arcos de la Frontera is a must-visit for those with dietary restrictions, offering a completely gluten-free menu and attentive staff who cater to specific needs. The charming tapas bar is run by Miguel and his wife, providing an authentic experience with traditional Spanish cuisine. This is the first time my wife and I visited this wonderful tapas bar, all I can say is we missed out on the last time we were in the town of Arcos de la Fontera. The owner Miguel is front of the house and his good lady is the chef, the charm of the place is not much English is spoken, so you have to try your best to do a little Spanish, believe me you will be glad you did EXCELLENT FOOD AND DRINK.
