Archaeological site
Sights & Landmarks
Heraclea Lyncestis, a captivating archaeological gem located just 1 km south of Bitola, is steeped in history dating back to the mid-4th century when it was founded by Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. This ancient city, whose name translates to 'the city of Hercules on the land of the lynx,' showcases remnants primarily from Roman and early Christian eras.
These ruins were in a lot better condition than expected. Many of the mosaics on the floor were still in very good shape. Wish there was more explanation, but for what it is, the small entry fee, and being the only ones there, it was really amazing to see such an old site (4th BC, if I remember correctly).
Rebecca M — Google review
Very interesting. Each former building had a QR code to hear about how the Romans lived at Heraclea Lyncestis. The theatre has been restored so if you walk up beside the exterior walk or climb up the inside steps and you will be rewarded with a great view over the whole complex. There are lovely mosaics and a gentleman was working in one of the sections doing restoration work.
Merinda H — Google review
If you plan to visit this site, please bring food the stray animals here. Especially the cats. 🙏🏻 The mosaics are amazing! There was some old scaffolding and collapsed wooden bridges that should be picked up from the site, but it was really remarkable and definitely worth the trip!
A B — Google review
If you're a history lover like me this is the place to visit! Between Heraclea and Stobi I can't decide which one is my favorite. From the theatre to the baths and fountains, it is really worth to visit
Maya T — Google review
Very beautiful archaeological site, with some nice mosaics. Reminded me a lot (in a smaller scale) the structure of some parts of Dion archeological site. A nice inscription in Greek on one of the columns
Pardalis G — Google review
An archaeological treasure and little known outside Macedonia. We visited on a weekday in late September. The site is a pleasant walk through the park from Shirok Sokak, past the Museum. 1.6km/1mile by foot. The mosaics are impressive. Don't miss the small museum collection. Reception staff are friendly, English speaking and provide excellent English language description via WiFi on your smartphone.
Des H — Google review
The mosaics are very well maintained, their colours teleport you back in time. The postcards at the office are very pretty and cheap as well. The amphitheater is in such a good condition, there are festivals and concerts organised at this place. The visit was worth it and I recommend it to everyone interested in Macedonian history!
Alo I — Google review
Very interesting archeological site with beautiful mosaics. The museum is not looked after though, it needs some basic cleaning really. Can anyone do that? There is a small colony of cats living there by the small house. If you love cats as we do, bring some food with you!

Historical landmark
Sights & Landmarks
The Clock Tower, located in Bitola, North Macedonia, is a significant historical and architectural symbol. Its construction dates back to the 19th century and showcases a fusion of Ottoman and European architectural styles. The tower's origins are shrouded in mystery, with conflicting accounts of its creation ranging from the 16th century to the 1830s. According to local legend, the Ottomans reinforced its walls by incorporating 60,000 eggs from nearby villages into the mortar.
Clock tower and near area is so clean and full of sculptures. Really like it.

Great location at the foothills of moint Pelister.

Impressive clock tower which actually tells the time! I visited twice!
Merinda H — Google review
Manastır is a perfect city. And the clock tower is the place that symbolizes the city. The parc is great to rest in city center and there are a lot of parking areas around the parc. First 15 minutes is free. If you are coming to Ohrid for a visit, please do not skip Manastir (Bitola) and you won’t be regretful.

Scenic spot in the center of Bitola near mosques and the pedestrian promenade. There's a plaque outside the tower about its history. I don't know if it's possible to enter.

Museum
Specialty Museums
NI Institute and Museum Bitola, housed in the historic Monastir Military Preparatory School, offers a rich display of history. The museum features a dedicated section on Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, alongside exhibitions showcasing images and artifacts from Macedonia's past. Visitors can explore millennia-old items and gain insights into significant historical events such as the Ilinden uprising and the World Wars.
Visiting the Manastır (Bitola) Military High School, where Atatürk studied, was an incredibly emotional and unforgettable experience. Walking through the same halls where he once walked, feeling the atmosphere of this historic place, and seeing Atatürk’s memories carefully preserved was truly moving. The sense of history was almost tangible—the walls seemed to whisper stories of the past, of a young Mustafa Kemal shaping his vision for the future. Writing a message in the memory book was a heartfelt moment, a way to honor his legacy and express deep admiration. The air itself carried the weight of history, and standing there, immersed in the spirit of this place, was both humbling and inspiring. Also Manastır is not just a city of stunning architecture and rich heritage, but a symbol of enlightenment and transformation.
T. T — Google review
Lovely museum, for the price of the ticket you get to see a lot. From history of the city, to Ataturks life, Macedonian life and culture. I highly recommend it
Maya T — Google review
Went to go and visit the museum as we were in the area, google said that this was open. However once we opened the door the place had been completely stripped bare and was under construction.
Zach M — Google review
Its cheap to enter but the museum is more than half empty. Translations to english are not always present and the ones that exist have encoding issues, like the #39 in the attqched image.
Sava S — Google review
Significant place for Turkish people as this was a military school Atatürk attended. Building is nice. There is not much unique things to see but gives you some idea about the local culture and history. 120 MKD entrance fee.
Dahi Y — Google review
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk started at the Manastır Military High School on March 13, 1896, after successfully completing his studies at the Selanik Military Junior High School. During his time there, he became friends with Ömer Naci, who would later be known as a skilled orator and who sadly died of typhoid while serving in the Special Organization during World War I. Ömer Naci played an important role in developing Mustafa Kemal’s interest in literature and public speaking. Another student at the school was Ali Fethi (Okyar), who would later become one of Atatürk’s close friends. Mustafa Kemal completed the Manastır Military High School successfully and continued his education at the Military Academy in Istanbul on March 13, 1899.
Londoner T — Google review
It was a very moving moments for us because our first president and Turkish freedom hero Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was completed military education in this school. We saw his uniforms and we felt the atmosphere. It was an honour to be there 🇹🇷

A restful place. Magnolia tees just coming in to bloom. We were there as grief was outpoured for the lives lost at Pulse nightclub. It still felt peaceful amidst the grief and anger.

After leaving Greece, our first stop was here. The square is wide and quiet. Magnolia Square brings together many works from the Ottoman period and Austrian architecture. It is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, boutique shops. The famous Sirok Street of Bitola (Manastır) city starts from this square.

Amazing food with so much to choose from. Big portion sizes, affordable prices and super friendly staff. Make sure to try their oven cooked cheese and garlic bread. 5/5!

Food poisoning!! I’ve already learnt that the culinary scene in this country is horrible, but still… i’ve ordered a cold coffee which was 100% from a neacafe instant powder 3 in 1 you buy in the supermarket. Ordered a burger and not only was the meat inedible, but it was not cooked all the way through! The day after got food poisoning. Avoid this place.

Everything is good and awesome, but i asked for pepsi and I needed to ask 4 times to bring me one, but thats not the end because he didn’t even bring glass for the pepsi
Trajko A — Google review
I do not have any complaint about the food, which is excelent, but I will place a great disapointment about the service and time of preparing and serving the dishes. To be served with a simple fried fish and few chips as well as with two beef soups, we were waiting more than one hour. Finally when we were served, the explanation of one of the staff members was that the kitchen was very busy prepaing a big order from last night. Totally unacceptable explanation... If any of you guys reading this post and if you do not know what to do with your spare time, go visit this Longe Bar Manaki and wait for hours to be served!!!

Nestled in the heart of Magnolia Square, Vino Bar Bure is a charming restaurant and wine bar that promises an unforgettable experience. With its cozy ambiance and delightful decor, it’s the perfect spot to unwind with friends over a glass of local wine. The menu features traditional dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds; don’t miss out on their famous Talianska salad or the delectable melted cheese dish.
Good variety of food and tasty meals. The bar is set in a heart of beautiful pedestrian area and it's perfect for a night out. But what makes this place exceptional is a service received. We were warmly welcomed by a young girl and then rest of service was done by Milan who was the nicest person ever but also very knowledgeable recommending dishes to us. Good local wine Alexandria too. 1000% recommended to everyone!

Nice choice of wines. Gool location. Food is decent, Steak deserves 5 stars, other meals closer to 3. Overall, not bad. Stuff is kind and helpfull. Big minus for owners, hygiene outside and first impression, close to 2. (take a look at 2nd pic) Tablecloth is in unacceptable condition for a restaurant.
Dejan S — Google review
Great food and location as well! Enjoyed in the dinner 🍽️ Service was also very good.
Danijela N — Google review
i really wanted to like this place, and there are some good things about it, but there are also a lot of things that need serious improvement. First off, the staff were kind and friendly, which I appreciate. And I actually like the overall style and vibe they’re going for. But unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The food was okay, nothing special, but not bad either. The problem is how long it took to come out. We waited way too long, and when it finally arrived, we were given dirty forks, spoons, and knives. Not just smudged, dirty. That’s honestly not acceptable in any restaurant. The bathroom was just as bad. Dirty and clearly not checked or cleaned regularly. And what really bothered me was that the staff didn’t even try to hide it. No one seemed concerned about the state of the place, which makes you wonder how things are behind the scenes. This place could be good with the right care and effort, but right now, it just feels neglected. 3 stars only because of the friendly staff and potential. Otherwise, it would’ve been lower.
Mikle — Google review
Downtown restaurant & wine bar with a good selection of the Tikves brand; delicious traditional food, though some dishes were missing from the menu (sarma & a premium pork steak); good service; decent prices; free wi-fi; no parking;
Bogdan D — Google review
Ordered Chicken Fajita, there was no chicken inside, ordered Dubara chicken sticks supposed to be with chips…no chips, just the chicken and some mustard… paid for double Sopska sallad, got only for one person if you compare with other restaurants.. even the cutlery was not very clean…no more Bure for me..
Nikola T — Google review
Great choice if you want to try local wines and good food. Especially if the weather allows, it is the perfect place to sit in Magnolia Square and drink a glass of wine. But apart from the wine, everything we tasted was pretty good.
Antonis T — Google review
Inside it looks interesting but the menu had missing plates such as the calf veal. The bottle I was brought was pretty dirty. The glass had few stains too. The menu is rich but meat wise it is mostly pork and chicken.

Restaurant
Aurum Kitchen Bar is a unique dining establishment in Bitola that stands out for its delectable and contemporary cuisine. Unlike typical grill places, Aurum offers an array of dishes that are delicious and innovative. The restaurant boasts a spacious layout with both indoor and outdoor seating options, including a closed terrace for smokers. In addition to their exceptional food, Aurum also serves a wide variety of drinks and has a dedicated bar area where patrons can enjoy a cup of coffee.
For me, this is by far the best restaurant to enjoy a meal any time of the day that being breakfast, lunch or dinner or simply going in for a cappuccino and a dessert. We were in Bitola for 2 1/2 weeks, we ate breakfast at Aurum, and we were hooked we came back almost every day for either breakfast or lunch. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is beautiful, with reviews of the mountains surrounding you. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous, super clean, the bathroom facilities are also extremely clean, very modern and unique. Our waitstaff were very pleasant, happy to take our order and answer any questions with regard to the menu or offer suggestions as well. We truly appreciated the staff. The only downside is the SMOKING. Everyone seems to smoke. If you’re not a smoker or if you’re someone that is easily bothered by a table smoking next to you then I suggest you try to find another place to eat in Bitola, good luck as it seems everyone smokes, and everywhere! Regardless of the smoking issue, we will always go back to Aurum Kitchen Bar, as the food is very good, and the portions are huge most times you could share a plate, that’s how big the portions are We will definitely be back in the near future!
Julie D — Google review
We stopped for a family lunch on our way back from Greece. The food was very good, but unfortunately the atmosphere was not pleasant – there were many uncleaned tables. The service was very poor, we waited around 20 minutes before being served and the waiter came with great delay. Both the food and the bill were served very late. Even though there were many waiters, there was no coordination between them, and they were more focused on chatting with each other rather than serving the customers. For a restaurant of this level, this is unacceptable and leaves a negative impression.
Fisnik S — Google review
This is the best restaurant in Bitola. I was in the town for 2 days and I revisited Aurum 3 times. I usually never do that but this place has many excellent plates to offer! High quality ingredients carefully chosen in a perfect blend. I will definitely be visiting Aurum again!
Dafina D — Google review
Me and my boyfriend visited this restaurant for a relaxing morning coffee, but the experience turned into one of the most unpleasant visits we’ve ever had. Despite the place being fairly busy, it took over 30 minutes before anyone came to clean our table or even take our order. During that time, we politely called out to two or three waitresses who simply made faces and brushed us off with, “I’ll come in a minute,” yet never did. When our order was finally taken, we requested two iced macchiatos, but were instead served hot macchiatos. We decided not to complain further, as the atmosphere already felt tense and unwelcoming. Unfortunately, the coffee itself had a burnt, unpleasant taste, and after just a few sips, I discovered something horrifying — a dead earwig insect inside the cup. We immediately reported it to the staff and the woman manager, who shockingly dismissed the situation with, “It’s just a bug, come on, order a different coffee.” Such a response was not only unprofessional but completely unacceptable, especially for a restaurant that claims to be high-end. Between the poor service, unhygienic conditions, and lack of accountability from management, this establishment completely failed to meet even basic standards of hospitality. I would strongly advise others to think twice before visiting — no one should have to experience this level of negligence and disregard for customers’ health. All best xx

I’m really disappointed and upset with how my friends and I were treated at your restaurant. We’re all over 18 and came in excited to eat, ready to spend our money and have a good time. Instead, the hostess was incredibly rude and turned us away for no clear reason. She talked to us with such a bad attitude that it honestly ruined our night. We had real cash to spend and were looking forward to a nice dinner, but we were made to feel unwelcome and disrespected. No one deserves to be treated like that, especially when just trying to enjoy a meal out.

While some find it slightly pricier than other bakeries, many appreciate the friendly staff and the 24/7 availability. However, there are concerns about environmental impact due to its popularity.
Best bakery in Bitola, works 24 hours.
Kosta D — Google review
This bakery isn't what it used to be, most of the baked goods are mediocre and prices are pretty high for what you get. At the end of the day it's the last resort if you're looking for food Saturday night at 3:48AM.

Yoooooo this place right here is the best bakery Ive been to in Macedonia. The freshness of all the pastries maaaaaannnnnnnnn, you cannot resist the aroma u can smell from across the street. And guess what, they also make doughnuts and ice cream like whaaaaa... An easy 5⭐ from me.

A bit more expensive than the other bakeries but at least the staff is nice and the food is always fresh. It works 24/7 which is great but because there's so many people buying from there, the river gets polluted and the bakery doesn't really care much.

Pizza restaurant
Pizza Sweden, located on Sirok Sokak, is known for offering the best value-for-money pizza slices in Bitola. Visitors rave about the gigantic and delicious slices that are generously topped with cheese. Despite limited seating, the friendly staff and affordable prices make it a must-visit spot for a quick snack while exploring the city. Although there might be a wait during peak times due to high demand, the quality of their pizza makes it worth it.
I was passing by street with my friends at our visiting to monastre and I felt a strong pizza smell that came from this store I decided to give a chance and bought 3 slices which was 2 euro for each but they were absolutely gigantic and 2 slices was more than enough and the pizza was the easiest best pizza I have ever had the 2 woman at the counter were so nice too only downside is there is only one table and 2 chairs so you have eat at Park or something but I strongly recommend this place to everybody.
Rain B — Google review
First of all it's questionable if their food even classifies as Pizza as it is served with Ketchup!!! We ordered a Salami Pizza and they gave us an entirely different Pizza with some random toppings, just not Salami. When we told them it was the wrong order, they didn't want to take it back and instead told us it was the traditional macedonian way to make Salami Pizza.
Johannes S — Google review
Pizza is overpriced for what amounts to a gross, pasty slice served with ketchup. So much garbage that all the bins and walk way are littered with their boxes. I asked for no box for my 1 slice and they said they had to use a box. No wonder 10 steps away there was a pile of them!
