Nestled atop a striking granite rock, the Castle Museum of Tournon-sur-Rhône stands as a testament to the rich history of the Comtes de Tournon. This historic site is surrounded by charming narrow streets that weave through the town's ancient center, showcasing its cultural heritage from the Early Middle Ages to the 18th century.
Apart from being an interesting museum it also affords some wonderful views over Your on, Tain l'Hermitage and the Rhone river.

More like a fortified house than a proper castle but still well worth a visit. Great views from the third floor terrace. Some nice exhibits but not a lot of them. Car parking nearby.

Despite the torrential rain we enjoyed our visit to the chateau museum. Much to learn, fabulous views afforded from the terrace and through the windows between the downpours. Very pleasant reception staff.

Cite du Chocolat Valrhona is a modern museum, store, and cafe located in Tain L'Hermitage. It is dedicated to showcasing the world of chocolate through tastings and tours. The venue offers a variety of confections for visitors to sample, including unique dishes like chocolate salad dressing. Additionally, the museum provides insight into Valrhona's rich history of chocolate-making since 1922.
It was a famous chocolate 🍫 in France 🇫🇷 for a long time. This museum is kind of telling you how they make chocolate 🍫 from simple to factory like nowadays. It was a fancy chocolate, and you will have more information about how they improved people life around the world( South America, Africa...) with the cacao tree 🌳 to make a difference chocolate with different flavors and teases. It was nice when they gave me some chocolate without milk cause I got lactose. With your ticket 🎟 you can scan and get some free chocolate inside the museum. Upstairs, they have the place for kids to place, and the parents can drink some coffee to take a break. Next door, they have a bouquet chocolate store. So you can visit and choose some chocolate like gift 🎁 for your people then. Good luck, and have a nice experience there! Highly recommended if you visit Valence 👌

Excellent and educational time spent at this Chocolate Museum. We were signed up for a chocolate and wine tasting which took place in a classroom with both a wine and chocolate expert. Learned so much about the different kinds and qualities of the chocolate they produce. Each piece was paired with a complementary wine. A GREAT experience. The museum itself is easy to walk through and understand - highly recommend this experience for chocolate lovers (my bride) and not-so-much chocolate lovers like me.

I had the most wonderful experience at La Cité du Chocolat Valrhona. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the history and craftsmanship that Valrhona is known for worldwide. The exhibits are interactive, educational, and full of surprises — perfect whether you’re a chocolate lover or just curious about the journey from cacao bean to finished creation. The highlight for me was the tasting experience. Pairing Valrhona’s incredible chocolates with wines from Cave de Tain was unforgettable — a perfect balance that truly reflects the richness of the Rhône Valley. This is more than a visit; it’s a celebration of heritage, flavor, and passion. Absolutely worth the stop if you’re in the region.

Visited the shop after reading about the chocolate and seeing some of the reviews. The chocolate is lovely and the chocolate shop is well laid out. Samples are available to help you choose although they are so tasty that they may make your choice even harder. We selected a cross range of the individual chocolates from behind the counter after sampling some on the way in. The young lady who assisted us from behind the counter was so friendly and knowledgeable. She made suggestions and allowed us plenty of time to choose. Fabulous experience. Hubby waited outside with our dog , having noticed this the lady at the shop reception counter (providing some samples) went out to give him a sample. The chocolate is Devine the shop was lovely and the staff are even better.

One of the worst experiences i have ever had, totally not worth it. The entrance fees should be 2 euros maximum not 40 euros for a small family with absolutely no return, and the prices in the boutique is over rated. Other than the long journey, it was a total waste of money and time.
Samer K — Google review
Pretty cool chocolate museum. It's modern and high tech. There's interactive videos and emersive displays. You also get chocolate samples so you can learn what real quality chocolate tastes like. My only complaint is that now other chocolates will always be waxy inferior chocolate compared to Valrhona chocolate.
Scott C — Google review
Tip: Bring a bag! Really fun and educational chocolate ‘factory’ with lots of chocolates as free giveaway. A bit smaller than other chocolate factory. But all of the animations and techs were working well. Can get a bit busy as the screens were interactive whilst sampling chocolates. Kids get a special ‘treasure’ hunt quest and free gift at the end! There’s also a little quiet playroom at the end of the visit just before the cafe - for those who wish to have a little quiet time.
Noelle N — Google review
If you enjoy a good piece of chocolate, the museum is definitely worth a visit! The place is rather small, but there is definitely a lot to read and discover, also for children! Make sure to be ready for some tastings and don't miss out on the staff's presentations! It was very enjoyable :)

Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Passerelle Marc Seguin is a stunning pedestrian bridge that gracefully spans the Rhône River, connecting Tournon-sur-Rhône with its charming surroundings. This impressive structure is an enhanced version of the original cable suspension bridge built in 1825, showcasing both historical significance and modern engineering marvels. Walking across this bridge offers visitors breathtaking views reminiscent of iconic landmarks like New York's Brooklyn Bridge.
A pedestrian and cycling bridge licated in the Ardeche area of France. It spans across the Rhone River and connects the towns of Annonay and Davezieux. It is named after Marc Seguin-a famous French engineer who pioneered the design of suspension bridges. It is a notable charming bridge which offers beautiful views of the river and surrounding landscape.

When in France enjoy the little things, and I did. I live in Washington State in the U.S., we have weather very similar to France but we don’t have a lot of views like these. Yes you might find a couple in my home state, but in France it seems like every corner you turn is worthy of a picture ready for framing. This bridge was fun to walk across, much like the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC USA. I would love to return to France to take in this view again.
Rowdy R — Google review
What a magnificent suspended bridge .I didn’t realised it was the oldest one in France dates back to 1825.I come across this place due to work in the town.this is reason why I love living in France .you stumble cross to beautiful places even when you working .

If your driving down from Northern Ports to the South it's worth making this your first stop en-route to Lyon. A lovely old town built on the Rhone. We stayed in Tournon just a walk North of the Bridge but were delighted to find this gem of a riverside town a short walk away.

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
The Église Saint-Julien de Tournon-sur-Rhône, a Catholic church in France, stands out among the many cathedrals and churches in the country. It is a remarkable sight that leaves a lasting impression on visitors. This ancient church holds great value and significance, as it is not common to find such old and cherished structures in the United States. The church's beauty extends beyond its architecture; its acoustic qualities make it an excellent venue for concerts featuring ancient music.
Go, go, go... This church is beautiful, there is a lot of cathedrals and churches in France but the key is to fine the ones that you will remember for a lifetime. This is one of them while you’re visiting town. Some might think it’s funny when talking about a church, but it’s not the normal in the U.S. to have things this old and this loved in your own backyard. This is what I loved about our trip to France. If you a chance to go, pack your bags and don’t look back.
Rowdy R — Google review
Beautiful church for concerts, acoustic is wonderful for ancient music. People of the village was extremely sweet and welcoming. I enjoyed the beauty of the church and the time spent in the village.
Cristina R — Google review
Attended Christmas Eve vigil Mass as our river cruise boat was docked for the night. Seems like an active parish. They sang familiar French carols and projected the lyrics so we sang along I don't understand French well enough to catch all of what the priest said in his homily but the congregation reacted many times finding it humorous. After the Mass, many chatted up their neighbors. Some went to the side altar where the creche was. There's a landmark sign outside but I don't recall what it says. The building shows different architectural styles. The chancel has patches of wall art from the Middle Ages. The columns seem to be a mix of Romanesque and early Gothic. The side chapel to the left as you enter has wonderful frescoes. Surprising to see such well preserved works in a small town.

Very rude staff. We were turned away at 1.30 pm for lunch on a saturday. The waitress smiled when she turned us away. No service at all, just a very unfriendly „Au revoir“. Very bad behaviour. Disappointment!

L'Ardoise is a highly recommended restaurant known for its excellent regional cuisine prepared with fresh, local products. Visitors have enjoyed delightful dishes like the slate gratin and duck breast ravioli. The attentive and accommodating service adds to the overall experience, making it a great establishment to visit. Despite being busy, the waitresses maintain a pleasant demeanor and provide efficient service. Guests have left satisfied after enjoying delicious meals paired with fantastic wine and fragrant espresso.
L'Ardoise is lovely! Bookings are recommended. We sat outside (it was hot, in July) and they brought cold water throughout our meal. They serve a specialty of small raviolis with cheesy sauce that is superb! The goat cheese salad was also delicious. And they offer a fine selection of local wines, which are a.maz.ing. Please visit Veronique, the owner. She's a fantastic hostess!

This was a first! A first in being thrown out of a restaurant! The reason: we did not accept the bottle of wine which was not the one we asked for. There are more details that are worth mentioning so you do not go to this place but I took the time to read what the owner of the place wrote to the previous reviews that were not positive. The quote goes like this: "blah, blah..." Check it out in the list of replies, this is what the owner thinks of the previous reviews that say the experience was not appropriate. So, this post, one of the three in my all time reviews, is the only one in which I do not recommend a place. And not for the place itself but for the lack of minimal respect I was ever given the chance to witness. PS. The last review about the wine list and other great atmosphere of the place is written by the very first waitress of the restaurant. If this is not outrageous and disrespectful, then please, please do go visit the amazing restaurant of L'Ardoise.
Elisabeta M — Google review
Very very low service! We asked for a bottle of wine, they brought us another type of wine. We asked them to change the bottle with the correct one and the lady said that we must pay the wrong bottle. We refused this and she decided that we need to leave the table. We were polite with them but they decided that we are insolent because we refuse to drink a different type of wine.

After a good walk around the old town, we stopped and had the set menu for lunch at this restaurant. The food was outstanding, and just enough and the wine was a great recommendation from the owner. (Translated by Google) After several years of not visiting, we rediscovered Le Chaudron. The terrace looked abandoned, with a jumble of leaves, pigeon feathers, paper, bird droppings... not very glamorous... We ordered after a good 25-minute wait (there were fewer than ten of us seated) and waited another fifteen minutes for our starters. The eggs meurette were acceptable but very, very salty. The pâté en croute was average (yet four participations in the world championship???). The accompanying salad was unappealing; you could tell it had been sitting in the fridge. For our next meal, we ordered a sea bass fillet and asked for a different side (fennel). We were offered green beans. Okay. They arrived plain, boiled, without even a bit of butter. For drinks, we had a Kir and a glass of white wine (no coffee or dessert). This meal cost us the exorbitant sum of €95. We are extremely disappointed and will not be returning.
