Hindu temple
Sights & Landmarks
The Thousand Pillar Temple, also known as Sri Rudreshwara Swamy Temple, is a Hindu temple built during the Kakatiya dynasty in the 12th century. Located in Warangal, it showcases exquisite Kakatiya architecture with ornate carvings and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Surya, and Lord Vishnu. Situated within the Kakatiya Fort complex, this temple is a must-visit for anyone exploring Warangal.
Rudreswara Temple locally known as Veyisthambhalagudi (Thousand Pillars Temple) is one of the fine and earliest available examples of Kakatiya art, architecture and sculpture. It was built by Rudra Deva and named after him as 'Sri RudreswaraSwamy temple with the presiding deity as Rudreswara in 1163 CE in the style of later Chalukyan and early Kakatiyan Architecture. The Plan of the temple is star shaped and triple shrine (Trikulalaya) houses three deities Rudreswara Vasudeva and Suryadeva in Western, Northern and Eastern shrines respectively around a central hall (Ranga Mandapa). The temple measures over 31 x 25m and stands on a platform raised to a height of 1 m from the ground. There is a Kalyana Mandapa located to the South of the temple famously known as Thousand Pillared Mandapa, which has about 300 pillars. The unique type of foundations known as sand box technique was integrated to raise the temple complex which subsequently turned to be the major cause for their damage and abandonment. The skill of Kakatiya Sculptors is manifest in adroit craftsmanship and flawless ivory carving technique in their art. The ingenuity of Kakatiya sculptors is visible in likes of lathe turned, and shiny polish in dolerite and granite stone sculpture and craft works of Ranga Mandapa. The roof of the temple is devoid of any superstructure at present. There is a Nandi placed in the open space placed between the main temple and the pillared mandapa. The garland of bells round the neck and with other ornaments embellished on the Nandi portrays Kakatiya touch. The elegant carvings at the richly decorated pillars under spacious ceiling spanning the embellished side slabs identical to wood carvings is an achievement of unparalleled excellence of the Kakatiya Architect. Other units here include a rectangular stepped Pushkorini, a torana entrance in the east.

Visited the Thousand Pillar Temple in Warangal over the weekend. It’s a really peaceful and beautiful place to explore. Parking for cars costs ₹50, and there’s no entry ticket for the temple. Inside, there’s a small lake with tortoises and fishes which makes it even more interesting. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has some amazing old architecture. A nice spot to visit with family or friends if you’re around Warangal!

Underrated place but definitely worth going to since it’s less crowded , the site is clean and well maintained and we were told it’s even open in the evening with beautiful lighting . It’s spacious and relaxing especially when the weather is good and the ruins will remind you of Hampi . The broken shiva temple is a poignant reminder of historical brutality

Firstly the musical fountain doesn't work. The park is in a complete mess and the people around dirty the beauty of the park. Plastic bottles and glasses littered everywhere, extreme foul smell from the nala running through the park. I don't know why they charge 15₹ per head for this. The park is in very bad shape.

Its most prominent landmark is the adjacent, large Bhadrakali Lake, constructed during the Kakatiya era, which offers a stunning view, especially at sunrise or sunset. * The Deity: The main attraction is the powerful 2.7-meter tall, eight-armed monolithic stone idol of Goddess Bhadrakali (a serene form of Maa Durga). 2. We visited Bhadrakali Temple 🕉️ on a weekend after a long time and were struck by the powerful vibrations and serenity of the place. It looks like it has been recently renovated, is very well-maintained, and is much more organized! We found it was quite crowded today due to a festival, but generally, it seems to be busiest on weekends. Tips for Visitors: You have a choice between the Free Darshan (longer wait ⏳) and Special Entry Darshans (₹50 and ₹100 per person) for Bhadrakali Amma. Near the entrance is the Gokulam 🐄, where you can feed the cows for a small fee. The complex includes multiple sub-temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Nagadevatha, Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva, and Navagraha. 🙏 Delicious prasadam like Pulihora and Laddus (with sugar and jaggery) are available! 😋 There is plenty of parking space 🅿️ for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. A few notes: There appears to be no wheelchair accessibility ♿❌. It was noticeable that the beautiful Bhadrakali lake shore has been developed or utilized for the surrounding Maada Veedhi.
Madhukar P — Google review
It's a divine place to visit and receive blessings from Bhadrakali amma, don't miss this when you are in Warangal, must add to the itinerary. Went here on a saturday morning, crowd was less, got the darshan without any wait. The idol is huge and exudes vibrance, never seen ammavaru in this peaceful avatar. It has both mythological and historical significance. Kakatiya architecture is imbibed into the temple elevating the overall experience. There is ample space around the temple to roam and explore,

The temple is kind of okay , could be much better but it’s not maintained properly , the premises are clean but the lake behind is full of weeds and dry despite a lot of rainfall . Don’t spend too much time here .

When we went, it was raining and muddy near the Bhadrakali temple. It felt very peaceful after we went inside. It is believed that if non-children visit the cradle in the small temple outside the temple and pray, their wishes will be fulfilled.

The food tastes very good. We tried tandoor roti with butter paneer it was very tasty and hygienic. Service is also very good. Best for vegetarians. Everything is perfect 👍🏻. The thing that needs to be improved is lighting . Lighting can give good vibes. Except for this , the overall experience in this place is very 😊

We visited on 19June2025. Me and my wife went there. We ordered full meals. All the items are good. Ambience is good(atleast we can visit without any doubts with family). We sat at family section. AC cooling is upto mark, without any heavy cooling. Only icecreams they r not providing 🤪🤪. For 2 persons the cost of meals is I remember as 300.

This place feels quite dull inside, mainly because it doesn't get enough sunlight or fresh air. It also seems like the management isn't really on top of things, which makes the whole place feel a bit neglected. The food is cheap, but honestly, it's just okay – you can definitely find tastier options nearby. If you go in the late afternoon, be prepared for your food to be cold. We got almost everything cold except for the rice!

We had breakfast here and the taste was good but ambience is not upto the mark. They don't have Parking facility and bit difficult to find the hotel from the road

The place was not as expected.. Atmosphere was not great, South Indian food was not great. But the biryani was outstanding.. Worth a visit for biryani only..

Best Biryani one can eat in Warangal. Unmatched in taste. Also it is the only dish available at the restaurant. There's also a family section available with air conditioned rooms. A definite try out for Biryani if you ever come to Warangal

Biryani tastes good most of the time, doesn't give you the the true Hyderabadi flavor but the taste is better than it's neighboring hotels. The place is quite conjusted & has a separate air conditioned hall

Took a chicken biryani plate for parcel. I got chicken back centre piece. Who would put that piece in biriyani and the biryani was not much flavourful. It's mostly chilli powder and some spices.
