Kep

Kep is a coastal province in southern Cambodia, known for its seafood and tropical islands. The relaxed provincial capital of Kep, or Krong Kaeb, has wide streets with crumbling villas that recall its former glory as a French colonial resort town. Kep Beach has calm waters and a promenade with large statues, while vendors line the waterfront at the nearby crab market.

Outdoor Activities
Kep Beach is a charming white-sand beach in the town of Kep, Cambodia. It offers a relaxed seaside village feel with local seafood restaurants and traveler accommodations nearby. Visitors can explore the unique Kep Crab Market and enjoy waterfront dining options. Additionally, the beach serves as a starting point for boat trips to nearby islands, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely day by the sea.
As far as Cambodia’s beaches go, Kep is by far the best. The surf is almost non existent (it’s a shallow bay) but there are now chairs, umbrellas and hammocks to rent for the day. The scenery is stunning and they keep it clean. Plenty of little stores and food carts around too.
Andrew B — Google review
Nice quaint little beach with great cheap seafood all around. hammocks, umbrellas, chairs, inner tubes. life vests available for rent for a few dollars. Clean and nice. Not very busy when we were there on Saturday and Sunday. I recommend this place.
David M — Google review
Great place to visit. Best during the week when it’s a lot quieter. Weekends can be crazy busy. Beware of the monkeys along the beach with your belongings. They can become aggressive while trying to steal you belongings.
Jeff I — Google review
I visited the beach on a rainy day. The sea was murky with big waves. The sky was filled with dark grey clouds, heavy with rain. Perhaps when the dry season comes around, the beach will look picture perfect. Nevertheless, there were many visitors enjoying the bracing winds.

Kep Beach – A Peaceful Escape in Cambodia Kep Beach, located in southern Cambodia, is a quiet and peaceful coastal destination ideal for travelers seeking relaxation. Also known as the “capital of blue crabs,” Kep is famous for its fresh seafood, especially crab dishes that are both delicious and reasonably priced. The beach itself is clean, with calm waters and soft sand, perfect for swimming or simply enjoying the sun. During the day, visitors can take part in various beachside activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, or exploring nearby islands by boat. There are also local restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a drink while taking in beautiful ocean views. Despite its charm, Kep remains quite undeveloped. Public facilities and infrastructure are still limited, and after sunset, the town becomes very quiet, with few options for nightlife or evening entertainment. Kep Beach is best suited for travelers who prefer peaceful natural settings, authentic local food, and a slower pace of life. It’s an excellent weekend escape from busy cities or a relaxing stop on a broader trip through southern Cambodia. If you’re looking for a calm retreat and some of the best crab dishes in Southeast Asia, Kep is definitely worth a visit.

Best place to relax and refresh after a long week of work. Kep is amazing and we love it there to get out of the city.
Alexander K — Google review
Highly recommend visiting this beach! It seemed like they had just put down fresh sand but we loved it here. We spent a few hours under one of the umbrellas and ordered beers from the kiosk close by. The sunset was insane and it was so quiet for a beautiful beach. The staff were trying to pick up the rubbish and keep it clean, a lovely spot to relax!

Nature & Parks
Kep National Park, established in 1993, is a nature reserve located in the remote areas of Kep in Cambodia. It features an 8km circuit suitable for walking and mountain biking, passing through dense forests, wats, and viewpoints. The 'Stairway to Heaven' trail leads to a pagoda, nunnery, and Sunset Rock viewpoint.
What an amazing 8 k.m. motorbike ride or very long walk throughout KEP national park. Amazing concrete sealed road & I'm shocked that it's not on the tourist maps. The forests, trees , scenery was spectacular to say the least & very well worth the visit Such an awesome place not to be missed.
Adam C — Google review
Had a great 10km run at Kep National Park. The road is in good condition, surrounded by nature with fresh air all around. The views are beautiful, and I even caught the sunrise — a perfect way to start the day. Highly recommend for runners and nature lovers!
Sothyreak P — Google review
This is a really beautiful park with an 8 km paved loop that is easy to access through two entrances. There is a ranger at the entrance, and the $1 fee per person is definitely worth it. We first entered from the left side of the park and started walking towards inland, then continued onto the so-called Jungle Route (I think?). The trail quickly turned into a steep climb where we had to hold onto trees and plants to make our way up. It felt adventurous, but after a while the path became harder and harder to follow until it almost disappeared completely. At that point we decided to turn back, which was not easy, especially going down, it was quite a tricky descent. Back on the main paved path, we continued on the standard route towards Sunset Rock Viewpoint. This part was much easier and absolutely worth it. The view was stunning, and it felt like a rewarding end to the walk. Overall, the park offers both adventurous trails and accessible routes, making it a great place to explore. Sunset Rock is highly recommended. It would get 5 stars if all the paths were kept well and marked.

Kep National Park, mountain tracking by feet 👣 or by Car. Entry free $1/foreigner or $5/Car. Top view coffee shop. Single entrance from one gate, one way road & exit from other way. Nice peaceful place to relax 🧘‍♀️
Rajib D — Google review
Very easy hike on a paved path. It’s not a complete loop as it exits out into a street that requires you to walk around the coast along Kep Beach and around to get back to the starting point.

Nice 8 km loop around the hill with nice viewpoints with bike or by foot! We didn’t spot any wildlife!
Sylvia P — Google review
A nice little motorbike loop for just €1 although the hiking spots are really confusing to get to and the paths are super unclear and unmaintained. We didn’t really see much wildlife I guess this may be as the motorbikes through the park make a bit of noise. Still, a decent thing to do when in Kep.

Kep Crab Market is a cluster of rustic oceanfront crabshack restaurants, offering a local and friendly atmosphere for an authentic dining experience by the water. While some places have become more touristy, there are still mom-and-pop spots that provide an uneven but genuine experience. The market is known for its freshly grilled crabs and seafood, allowing visitors to select their choice and have it cooked on the spot.
If you’re looking fresh seafood for lunch or dinner, the Crab Market in Kep, Cambodia, is a great choice. Whenever I visit the beach and want seafood, this is my go-to spot. The selection is fresh, and the atmosphere is lively-definitely worth a visit!

If you love seafood like I do this market is everything u need to check out. Option 1 : You can buy Fresh seafood in kg and bring for them to cook any style of type you want . They will charge based on kg. Option 2: there plenty place you can buy seafood already cook. You either sit sugarcane shop and eat or you can take away. I love to sit there and eat there because it still hot and fresh You may find many place selling similar style of seafood but there 1 specific place I always go she sell very fresh and the sauce was very tasty ( find her in video I posted) There might cleanliness need to improve but it fair enough due this wet market which is not as people expected

Sothy's Pepper Farm is a popular destination situated in the picturesque countryside between Kampot and Kep. It is renowned for offering free tours where visitors can learn about the world-famous Kampot pepper, known for its exceptional taste. The farm also features fruit orchards where guests can enjoy complimentary fruits like mangoes and rambutan. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to purchase various types of peppers to support the local farm.
My husband and I really enjoyed the farm tour and pepper tasting today . Learned a lot about pepper and quite useful actually because pepper is simple and nice ingredient to have for cooking or salad dressing . Have to specially mention Kim who gave us the tour today . He is from the farm and he has great sense of humor and lots story to tell you . Speaks fluent French and English , very talented guy.

This was an amazing tour. The family were so nice and knew a lot about the pepper and other things that grow here. Can definitely recommend
Da_meme_ B — Google review
Small and authentic farm where everything— from pepper to jackfruits and mangoes — is grown organically, and where the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. We had the chance to get a very informative tour of the farm and taste the different types of equally delicious peppers before the start of our cooking class. Our chef was absolutely lovely and taught us how to prepare delicious chicken curry, lok lak and chek ktis. There’s also a variety of products available in their shop, and you can relax in their many hammocks. An absolute must-see!

Excellent! You get a free tour with tasting when you arrive. Our guide was really friendly and funny! You aren’t pressured into buying anything at the end either although we did but some of the rum and fresh pepper
Susie L — Google review
Today I had the pleasure of a private tour of the farm, guided in very friendly and fluent English. Afterwards, we enjoyed a pepper tasting, accompanied by many personal stories and fascinating bits of history. The whole experience felt wonderfully relaxed and authentic. On site, there is also a restaurant and the chance to buy local products. The pepper itself is absolutely delicious – for me, the green pepper was the clear highlight. There’s even the opportunity to join a cooking class, which makes the visit all the more special.

Very interesting farm. They gave the visitors free tour of the pepper farm and the fruit farm. We are allowed to eat the fruits too for free. Mangoes, rambutan. Superb! As an indonesian, i approve. You can also purchase different peppers there. The peppers do taste better, maybe because of organic? Enjoy! Please purchase to support the local farm. Oh, the ride to the place was also very interesting. We had so much fun driving the motorbike and enjoyed the villages around. Very recommend if you are in town! Ps: if you worry about not having international license, we didn't see any police stop. Heck, kids are driving here. :))

Less touristy pepper farm in a beautiful area. Here, you can take a free guided tour of the farm and learn about the history of pepper cultivation in Cambodia, as well as the various types of pepper grown on the farm. You get to taste different peppers. In addition, the farm offers a range of souvenirs and gift items for sale. Loved my visit and can recommend it to everyone.

The temple is adorned with beautiful sculptures and provides a peaceful atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. Accessible by climbing steep stairs, the pagoda is an ideal spot to immerse oneself in Khmer culture and explore Buddhist shrines and statues.
Located on top of a hill, you'll need to take elevated paths upwards. But what awaits you made it worth the journey! Golden roof, amazing sculptures, magnificent pillars. Don't forget you can see the city from on top here!

Sitting atop a hill in beautiful Kep, this amazing pagoda has panoramic views of the islands in the distance. I was the only person there, so I had plenty of time to capture all the beauty of this quiet and peaceful place. If you've got a couple of hours to spend, make sure you come here. It's worth it.

As a traveler or a tourist , You can spend a lovely afternoon there enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. To be honest though nothing is so special about it it’s another beautiful pagoda where you can go up all those stairs and marvel at the city from higher up 😍

Very peaceful and beautiful temple on the hill. Must see views over Kep and the islands. We got a tuk tuk from Kep beach to the gate of the temple then walked up the steep stairs to the temple, I recommend doing this in the morning before it gets too hot like we did or later in the afternoon when it’s cooling down. Beautiful sculptures around the temple, and very quiet. Didn’t come across any tourists :)

We came around New Year and saw absolutely no people. Quite interesting and seems very few visitors to the temple. A vipassana centre is nearby but seemed to be somewhat under construction so we couldn’t see if classes had started.

A beautiful hidden gem located on the mountain. Up there you can enjoy coffee/drinks with a very nice view overlooking the sea and greenery surrounding forest. It’s crowded for weekend and during holiday. Most people go there for taking photo. We paid 10000R for 5 of us at the foot of the mountain. PS: no space for car park for more than 3 cars. Be sure to ask them before going up. It’s a small one way road.

Led Zep Cafe is a popular establishment located in Kep Province. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and unique rock 'n' roll theme, the cafe often attracts both locals and tourists. It features a variety of food and beverage options, including Western and Cambodian cuisine. The cafe's decor often pays homage to the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin, with memorabilia and music setting a vibrant mood. Additionally, its location near the coast makes it an ideal spot for enjoying sunsets and the natural beauty of the surrounding area

It's a chill place with a nice sea view and calm with the surrounding forest. You could see some animals like squirrel or monkeys sometime. The drinks are okay. But location is good, just a little bit walk if you get there from the west entrance. With a nice seating area and nice to get some photos shot!!

Beautiful view, and they now make the effort with paper cups and compostable lids. A lovely place to hang out both Cambodians and visitors, listen to music and enjoy the trees.
Richard S — Google review
Don’t bother coming here on weekends. The place is crowded and more of a photo booth then a cafe. Had to wait 30+min for a $2 ice coffee that barely contained any coffee. Entrance to the cafe is only possible if you pay $1 pp for entrance to the national park. Last but not least: no toilets available
Maarten A — Google review
A small coffee shop on Kep national park. Can accommodate around 50 people. Mostly crowded at weekends and holiday. Good for mountain and sea view. Price normal not expensive, only drink there no take away offer. Vehicles need to park at the entrance, so you have to walk around 350m. If you walk across the coffee shop around 500m there is another abundance shop and good for seaside viewing as well.

Nestled by the picturesque Crab Market in Kep, Cambodia, Kimly Seafood Restaurant is a must-visit for seafood lovers. This charming eatery offers an authentic taste of the region's renowned blue crab and other fresh catches from the sea. With its inviting atmosphere and stunning coastal views, diners can indulge in delicious dishes while soaking up the vibrant local culture.
Expect some Cambodian service, and give them some time to deliver. The krab was seasoned for foreigners, and you can taste the freshness. The best dish was the rice porridge with prawn, crab, and squid. It is a rich flavor and is easy on the stomach.
Davit S — Google review
We shared the crab amok and curried prawns and it was my favourite meal in Cambodia - made even better by the fact you can request the dishes spicy and have lots of chilli added! Sun setting over the restaurant while we dined and a nice glass of wine to go with it all. 10/10, can’t wait to return if I’m ever back in Kep.
Emma D — Google review
The crab curry was yummy and had lots of meat on the crab. Small portions are quite big, can share between 2-3 people. I would definitely come back to order the crab curry. Food was cooked at an adequate speed, but even though there weren't a lot of people, it took them forever to take our order, to bring us drinks and white rice. Fried rice was a bit dry, but good taste.

Came to this place on a day trip from Kamoit to Kep. My Tuk Tuk driver said this place was very famous in the area, and after eating the crab, I can see why. The fried crab with green Kamoit pepper was super messy and super delicious. I liked it so much I ordered crab spring rolls after just to keep trying the crab. Restaurant also has a great view of the ocean when sitting outside.

If you're on the hunt for a delightful seafood experience, look no further than Holy Crab. This popular spot among expats offers a vibrant atmosphere where you can indulge in Asian-inspired seafood dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. While it may be pricier than grabbing crabs from the market, dining at Holy Crab provides an enjoyable ambiance and attentive service that enhances your meal. The menu features a variety of options, including crispy squid seasoned with Kampot pepper—a must-try!
Holy Crab is an absolute gem and has quickly become one of my all-time favorite restaurants. While its surroundings might not do it justice, the restaurant itself is a true standout. We had dinner for seven and ordered family-style with five entrées, three appetizers, rice, and drinks. The total bill was just $110 (before tip)—an incredible value. The menu is phenomenal. We loved every single dish, even the pasta, which we weren’t expecting to be great here—it turned out to be some of the best pasta we’ve ever had. The flavors, variety, and quality were exceptional across the board. The restaurant is cozy and charming inside, with an amazing view of the water and stunning sunsets. This kind of culinary and waterfront experience in the U.S. would easily cost over $400 for a group of seven, making Holy Crab a standout for both quality and affordability. I can’t recommend Holy Crab enough. If you’re in the area, it’s an absolute must-visit. We loved it so much, we’re already planning to go back tomorrow!

This restaurant is very clean. They are also MSG free. We felt the food was very fresh. The staff very friendly. Went there a few times on our 3 night stay here. I had the Steamed crab with lemon butter sauce and white rice, it was delicious!

Holy Crab. Claims to serve MSG free food. Flavors were very simple lacking a bit of depth overall. Just wondering if this was the best place in the whole strip of restaurants at this bay.
Pro E — Google review
This restaurant is located on a very busy seaside street. They have a very aesthetic decoration. They claim to serve MSG-free food. The price was a little bit high for the portion. he food took a little bit too long, yet it is very tasty. Among the dishes we ordered, the crab fried with pepper is the best, in which the crab blends well with the stir-fried sauces and the meat is literally fresh. The BBQ prawn and stir-fried squid are average.

We absolutely loved this place! Our favourite is the crab amok and grilled squid with lemon kampot pepper sauce (so good!!). I understand that it may be slightly expensive but they do serve quality and fresh food that is worth every penny. Their juices are also amazing - lime and mint is a must try!! If I go back to Kep; I’m definitely visiting this place again.

KEP’S BEST Kep’s crab market crab shacks are one of the reasons Kep is such a fabulous seaside town. The best of the crab shacks is Holy Crab, consistently spot on every time. The freshest seafood, reasonable prices, great space and great service. Wow - we were tipped off by a local cafe owner in Kampot that we had to come here for the crab amok - and so glad we listened! The best crab dish I’ve ever eaten, so so flavorful and full of crab meat. We came after the crab market so really weren’t that hungry, but devoured everything we ordered. The service was also really good and friendly, and the place was really stylish and modern of course with a great view of the ocean. Thank you!

Ate a mango salad with really fresh squid and small prawns at lunch today. Had to come back for dinner… Holy Crab is the flashiest looking restaurant on the strip but their pricing is on par with most other places alongside them so don’t be put off and immediately think it’ll blow your budget. The venue is clean, well designed, has good furniture (no miss matching chairs here) and ‘holy crap’ the ablutions are also spotless! It gets better though… I hate getting presented a dirty and trashy looking menu with dog eared pages (and so often it’s presented upside down in a casual ‘here it is’ manner) - well not here at Holy Crab. The menu pages are clean as a whistle, well laid out and presented correctly. The owner/manager has trained his staff exceptionally well right through the whole process of greeting and seating to taking the order, setting the table…everything. And, then there’s the food. I’ve already mentioned the US$4 mango salad at lunch - every ingredient on the plate was fresh and delicious. Dinner - the same - fresh and wonderfully crafted on the plate. Three prawns (thoughtfully peeled) and three pieces of squid tube nicely grilled and served with a Kampot pepper based dipping sauce. Main course of a snapper curry w/ vegetables and a side of steamed rice was generous in size and well cooked. The chef at Holy Crab knows her cooking techniques. I couldn’t fault a thing. Worth repeating visits if you’re a solo diner like me, but in a group try more of the many selections on offer.
