Candy store
Shopping
The Oldest Sweet Shop in the World, located in Pateley Bridge, offers a nostalgic experience with its retro-style shop filled with glass jars of old-school sweets, toffees, and chews sold by weight. While visiting the area, you can explore the countryside's historical ruins and scenic landscapes before heading to Nidderdale Museum for a glimpse into rural life past and present.
I stumbled a upon this little gem online by pure accident. Was looking at all the different sweets with my nan and we came across her favourite Winter mixes. And my childhood favourite Pebbles! Something I would quite often mention because you can never find them anywhere. Only the chocolate version which isn't the same as the candy ones. So we decided to try them out. And honestly I couldn't be more happier. My nan was over the moon that the winter mix are indeed the old traditional style. And the pebbles were the ones from my childhood memories. They can packed in good packaging so none of them were broke. And in a box. And we will be absolutely ordering from them again before Christmas. I actually find the pricing very reasonable considering they are made the traditional old way too.

Had to stop off and take a look around it's a nice little Sweet shop with quite a lot of variety to choose from friendly staff to help out would definitely recommend coming 👌
Paul G — Google review
Loved it. The gentleman behind the counter was very pleasant and professional. There was a bus load of tourists, and he handled that very well. I stood back and waited as I wasn't on a time limit. Brought a stock up and loved the charm of the shop.
Jacqui H — Google review
I done an online order, which they got wrong, there was no would you like the original sent, just had an email saying they sent the right item, it was definitely the wrong item, I did receive another item which was right but if I has wanted crumbs I would not have wasted my money here. I should have read the reviews on Trustpilot, won’t make that mistake then. Shame customer service no longer exists.
Mandy E — Google review
Grumpy staff, overpriced, thos shop seems to trade on its novelty factor not its friendly service ! Underwhelmed on a visit on a Saturday afternoon maybe caught them at a bad time ?
Fraser F — Google review
Great experience. Prices reasonable to be fair. They also sell specialist local ales. I bought a rarely found beer - Plum Porter. Friendly service as well.
Dan R — Google review
Just like the rest of the town absolutely enchanting.
Sheila B — Google review
Wonderful sweet shop ran by lovely owners who are very patient and kind. It's fantastic to say that the accolade of being the oldest sweet shop in the world hasn't lost the authenticity of the store and it's still like walking through a time portal. If you're in the area of Harrogate or even Yorkshire this should be on your list for places to visit!

Agricultural organization
Nidderdale Agricultural Society Show Ground, located in the scenic Bewerley Park near Pateley Bridge, hosts the Annual Nidderdale Show. This renowned agricultural event draws around 15,000 visitors annually at the end of September. The show offers a fantastic atmosphere with friendly people and a wide array of activities, making it an engaging and enjoyable day out for all attendees.
We used the Showground for a campervan rally. The cost was very reasonable. Heavy rain made the grass areas too waterlogged to drive onto but we spaced ourselves around on the perimeter road which worked perfectly, still leaving room for vehicles to drive past on the road.

Specialty Museums
Nidderdale Museum, housed in a former workhouse building, offers visitors a unique journey through the local history of the Dales. With 11 period rooms meticulously recreated to depict life in Victorian times, including spaces like the Court House, School room, Cobblers Shop and Victorian parlour, this museum provides an immersive experience of rural life in Nidderdale. Although operating with limited hours and run by volunteers, it is highly recommended for those seeking insight into the area's heritage.
Excellent visit! We thought it might only be one or two rooms but were very happy to discover 12 rooms filled with local artefacts and stories of the Nidderdale area. Each room is sectioned/themed well, enjoyed looking at all the old photographs of Pateley Bridge and the film about Scar House Reservoir. Definitely worth the £5 entrance fee as it's volunteer run and well worth it to preserve the history of this area.
K M — Google review
Fantastic museum run entirely by volunteers. Very well laid out and lots to cover. Mostly local history - which there is plenty!
Ashley R — Google review
Great history of the region around Pately Bridge, with lifelike displays showing how life was like at the turn of the 19th centuty
Rod A — Google review
Whilst having a weekend break in North Yorkshire i discovered what I feel is a hidden gem of local history. Value for money at £5 per adult gets you an insight into how the locals lived during Victorian times, war times and life in general in the black n white days so to speak. The museum is split into sections each unique in its own right. Lots of local photos help you paint a picture. There is the first TV that was purchased in the area at a cost of £85 which in today's money is circa £3000. They have set sections up to look like it did in the day, a shop, a solicitors, a living room, etc etc Staff are very enthusiastic local volunteers who can't wait to tell you some of the history. Definitely worth a visit if you're staying in the area or just passing through
Brian F — Google review
Large and interesting museum all about the local dale. It was bigger than we thought and the rooms are broken down into themes. Really gives you an insight in the past and what life was like. There is a lot to take in and you could easily spend half a day or more here if you wanted. Very friendly and enthusiastic volunteers as well. Entry is only £5 for adults. Well worth a visit!
Julian V — Google review
I don't usually write reviews but wanted to thank the lovely volunteers for making us so welcome today. They were great and even gave my two young daughters some knitted dolls to take away - so kind. Fantastic staff aside, this is an excellent museum - well curated exhibits and displays. Entertaining enough for a casual visit but also a lot of detailed local history if you have the time to delve deeper. £5 for adults and kids free is great value too. Will definitely return.

Was hoping to leave a restaurant review but it seems to have defaulted to the accommodation (which we didn't use!) The food was freshly made and highly enjoyable. Not a fancy restaurant, but like going to a friends house who enjoys cooking!

Called in here yesterday on one of our trips to pateley bridge. I've got to say it's a gem of a place! Spotlessly clean and perfectly run. My wife ordered the scampi and commented it was really well cooked, I had the gammon which again was really cooked to perfection and the eggs were of the same standard. People may say that chips are chips wherever you go, but not here! I've never had chips that were so nice, don't know how they did them but they were excellent. The staff serving were very welcoming and attentive, so in the whole, a very tasty and amazing place!

I've not actually stayed here but visited on numerous occasions with my friends while motorcycling in the area for breakfast. The place is spotless, the staff friendly and the food top notch and reasonably priced. Recommended.

Beautiful little place situated in the heart of Pateley Bridge. Lady who served us was also the chef, what a lovely lady. Food extremely delicious and fresh. Complimentary fresh homemade bread and butter when meals ordered🤩 Fair portion sizes and very good quality food used. Comfort food x10! This is our first time here and we will most certainly be returning. Very kind and accommodating of our two children also. Check it out if you’re passing through! 🤩

This family-friendly restaurant offers a casual setting to enjoy signature pancakes and classic American breakfast dishes all day long. With its central location on an award-winning high street, The Pancake House is a must-visit spot for those exploring the area.
A gem in the village ! We got the soup of the day meal which was a homemade potato and leak soup with bread on the side served with a teapot of tea followed by a lemon and cinnamon pancake. Staff were all welcoming and kind, real value for money. Would deffo recommend and come again !
Fix F — Google review
Cycling through, I asked a lady for a recommendation as a lunch stop, and as it was Pancake Day, she suggested The Pancake House. On arrival, both myself and my bike were greeted warmly, and although my bike had to stay outside, there was a bike size place the other side of my table by the window. I opted for the pot of tea, bowl of soup, and a lemon juice, sugar and cinnamon pancake. The soup is delicious, clearly home made, and a fortifying portion. My pancake was the best I have had in years. The team here, friendly and efficient. The owner is extremely passionate about his restaurant, rightly so. Life is about unique experiences and chance meetings. This is a supreme example of being out and about in the world, and enjoying being where your feet are.

The nicest little place! Staff were lovely, nice buzzing atmosphere, very dog friendly, so dog friendly that they sell little doggy cakes! Had a traditional lemon and sugar pancake, their Berry smoothie and it was divine. Also had a waffle with honeycomb ice cream and it was awesome. Highly recommend, will visit again when back in Yorkshire!
Lucy C — Google review
The food is not tasty - first too much chocolate syrup in the desert, secondly the one with chicken was too sweet and too spicy. The air conditioner doesn’t even exist here, and it was super hot and sweaty. The table was sticky. What I did like: There was an infinite supply of water with lemon and some cucumbers which was nice. Not loud,

A must when passing through or visiting Pately Bridge! The pancakes, both savoury and sweet, are delicious and the mushrooms are honestly the best I’ve ever had as part of a breakfast/brunch. Friendly staff and a lovely setting with loads of choice.

Italian restaurant
Olley's Pizzeria is known for its fantastic pizzas, offering traditional Italian thin-crust pizzas with homemade tomato sauce and high-quality toppings. The restaurant strives to use locally sourced produce to support the surrounding businesses. Under new ownership, the pizzeria has seen significant improvements in both service and food quality. Despite a quiet atmosphere on a cold Tuesday night, the quick and friendly service made for an enjoyable dining experience.
😘 just love it it…😍 Last evening, On a silent road walked into this space based on a recommendation.. They are courteous and friendly… was an one lady army serving out. The space was very warm and pleasant.. They have a whole lot of options on the menu and on the display board.. As we made up our mind to go with the highly recommended lasagna and stroganoff we finally went for one of their speciality for the day… Was the best choice and a great one…🥂 The platter for 2 was out of the world… It had the grill of rump steak, beef kebab, lamb shoulder, chicken breast, belly pork with tomatoes, onion rings… The presentation popped my eyes out as s it turned onto the table.. It Had the local meat and was juicy, having the good flavour and aroma that was just awesome… 😍😍hmmmmm.😋😋😚 I really enjoyed every bit of the bite and chew as the time went by… If you really like meat and want to try off the highly recommended list, hit the meat stack.. Don’t ever miss out…. Highly recommend this to all non foodies as all who enjoy food.. Have a great meal…🥂 🍻

Olley's Pizzeria, truly delicious Italian food... in the Yorkshire Dales! I booked a table at Olley's for 7pm on a Thursday for my partners birthday meal. It was nice and easy to do so! Upon arriving at the location, there is no allocated parking for the restaurant but there is on street parking, plus plentiful parking in the towns car parks, etc., luckily, we were able to park right outside. When entering, we were greeted warmly by one of the witnesses and given drinks menus / food menus to read whilst waiting for our table to be cleaned, which took no more than 10 minutes. On our visit, we ordered 2x drinks, 2x starters and 2x mains and it came to a total of £71. Now, that may sound expensive to some but in this day and age, that is quite the average price for a decent meal, and this meal was beyond decent. All of our food was incredibly, delicious, well made food and the portions were plentiful! We cannot fault anything with the food we received and the service given. Every member of staff we encountered was easy to speak with, friendly and approachable and ensured we had a great experience!
George B — Google review
The service is so friendly. Fabulous little place. Huge menu and everything we have had has been lovely. Couldn’t eat it all, so they packed up our leftovers for us too.
Jo T — Google review
During our recent stay in Pateley Bridge we thought we would try the local Italian restaurant, Olly’s. This was the best meal, by far, that we had during our stay. They do the usual pizza/pasta and if you dine in, they have many specials on the blackboards to choose from. Great food and the staff were lovely. Despite calling midafternoon on a Friday, they did manage to fit us in for that evening, and we are very pleased that they did. I would certainly recommend you give it try.
Lesley W — Google review
Firstly place smelt. I assume a one off Toliet issue. The food was okay. But there “pizza” really want that good and insanely over priced for the sit down experience considering you can take away the pizzas for around £12-13 if you wish to sit down it becomes £18 I have also pay a lot less and had a lot better pizza. A side bowls of chips was £5.40 ish if not closer to £6 that’s insane. Same with the pizza and all the rest of the food it was a large table of us as we all got different stuff everyone said the same foods fine at best not bad by any means but not worth the price at all

A small pub just outside Pately Bridge. It is quite a way up a quiet road so off the beaten track. It may be small but it more than doubles its size by putting up marquees and tables outside. There is live music from 4pm till 7pm on Saturdays and the place is bouncing! Family and dog friendly. Large car park. Worth the drive.

Did not eat here , service at the bar lady was so friendly we felt at home straight away , they had a group on during the day unfortunately we had to move on . We will visit again , we think it's a good pub proving a really friendly traditional atmosphere.

Great place for an afternoon drink. There was a band outside and the place was packed. Great atmosphere. Drinks price was average, not cheap but not overpriced either. Mostly all outside, toilets inside , interior looks very old world. Very pretty setting.

Visited this pub tonight with my partner. The staff were all very friendly and polite. we arrived pretty late, but as the chef was just passing us she told the waitress that she would happily fit us in as it was just the two of us. After browsing the menu we both decided on the pie. I am so happy that I'd chosen this dish as it was absolutely amazing!! The pie was cooked to perfection and full to the brim with steak that just melts in your mouth. The double dipped chips were also delicious. I can't wait to come back again.
Dizzy D — Google review
We visited the Bridge inn today for Sunday lunch...omg...the portions are massive and the Yorkshire pudding needs scaffolding it's so huge....I had roast beef and it was amazing. My biggest mistake though was ordered dessert 🍨 as that too was ginormous and unfortunately I couldn't eat it all 😕.. I was size 12 when I went in and size 14 when I left lol 😆 😅 Fantastic staff who couldn't be more kind and helpful only topped by the amazing chef and brilliant bar staff.... If i could offer any advice to anyone thinking of eating in this pub, it would be to wear elasticated clothing 👌👍😁....

We were sceptical about coming here, having read some reviews on Google. However, the general experience we had was very pleasant. The food was good quality and the restaurant was nice and clean. Had a conversation with the waiter and found out it was a family business, and the chef was his uncle, who had owned the business 25 years. If you're looking for a cheap meal, though, skip the poppadoms, which cost a massive £11 for the dips included. Overall it was average priced. Our experience was pleasant.

Had seen recent great reviews since new ownership and decided to give it a try last night, we were not disappointed, the service, the atmosphere and the food were fabulous. The portions were really big, recommend the fish tilka fry and mixed kebab starters. Highly recommend the Special Chef Balti. What was really great to see (and eat😁) was the chapatis, big and fluffy and fresh, not the tiny saucer like ones you sometimes get. All the chaps that worked there were super friendly and can't wait for our next visit.

Excellent meal last night. This restaurant has been refurbished, new owners and new menu. Very friendly and attentive staff. You can take your own alcohol which makes the meal very reasonable. We will definitely return.
Karen G — Google review
The staff were amazing, very friendly and efficient. BYOB really keeps the cost down which is wonderful to not pay high restaurant prices. Sadly the food did not live up to our expectations from previous reviews. I think the food is brought in pre-cooked as no aroma of cooking and spices that is usually in an Indian restaurant. As other reviewers said, a lot of sauce and very little meat. My chicken balti was not like any I have had before, quite a dense dark coloured sauce and my husband's Rogan josh was more of a BBQ sauce/flavour? Rice and nan were good but for the price per portion I would expect that at the very least.

Had two takeaways over last few weeks. Both really yummy as classic, simple takeaway curries. We've had the bhuna, korma, butter chicken and sag aloo and all very nice. Great, crispy onion bhaji. Food came out fresh and hot on collection with friendly customer service.
