National park
Nature & Parks
Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, named after its two peaks, is a tropical forest park known for its scenic beaches and diverse wildlife. The area has rebounded from the 2004 tsunami and now offers vibrant tourism experiences. Visitors can enjoy sunbathing on Khao Lak beach, engaging in conservation activities, and exploring the rich underwater world off the Andaman Sea coast. The park also features mesmerizing waterfalls and abundant wildlife for nature enthusiasts to explore.
This park is known for the Ton Chongfa waterfalls, which are beautiful, but it requires some tough hiking to see all 5 falls. I would definitely recommend wearing good hiking shoes or closed toed hiking sandals as the trails are very rough at the end of the main trail to access the falls. The first kilometer or so of the trail is well developed and easy to hike, and you can see the first waterfall that is easy to access just off the trail. At the start of the trail to the last 4 falls, there is a difficult stream crossing with large rocks, and a rope across to help you. You may have to wade across. It may be easier to do in the dry season, though. The trails between the last 4 falls are steep, rocky, and often very muddy, so be prepared. It will take you at least 2 hours or more to hike to all of the falls and back to the entrance, so take some water with you. I would definitely not recommend taking children on the rough trails, as it is very easy to get injured from a slip or fall. The entrance fee is 100 baht per person, and the only parking available is on the street next to the entrance. We very much enjoyed seeing all of the falls, and if you are in the mood for a rough hike, then be sure to see all of them.

We entered the Lam Ru National Park close to the big road in Khao Lak. Ticket was 100 baht per person. The trail goes 1,1 km to Small Sandy Beach. At first this distance seems nothing but actually the terrain can be a bit challenging and takes more time than you think. In pictures it’s difficult to understand but it goes up and down and mostly nature trail, not stairs. Lots of roots, rocks, uneven steps. For elderly and kids, I’d say it’s challenging. Be aware, on this trail you won’t find a waterfall. There are toilets, and one restaurant and at the beach one cafe. Trail is open until 16.30 and don’t exactly remember the wording, but being out there after that time can bring you a penalty up to 100 000 baht. Overall we enjoyed the hike and the views.
Kersti P — Google review
Amazing place, great nature, you can spot lizards (i saw even a big one) and easy hiking with beautiful beach in the end with small bar with shakes coffee soft drinks. There are toilets in many places. Totally recommended. 100thb entrance, 20thb parking for motorbike.
Aleksander R — Google review
There is a beautiful path walking along the ocean. I like when there’s a shade. So, you can enjoy the breeze of nature without a sunburn.
Lana W — Google review
This is a great hike that ends in a cute beach spot that even has a snack hut and bathrooms. There are some narrow and steep bits so it was more challenging than we thought, but we had a child with us. If you want to skip the long hike drive a bit further to sandy beach entrance and you’re at the end of the trail and can just go to the beach area.

With limited time to explore i managed to adventure this beautiful place. Nice place to take picture and rest Hope i have another chance to come here again to take my time to explore all the area They have fee entry but worth to travel

A good park for a leisurely walk in hot weather. Entrance 100 baht per person. There are two beaches. One to the right of the entrance and the second at the end of the route. Both beaches are very picturesque. Not crowded. Path through the jungle, 1.5 kilometers to go. It is better to wear comfortable shoes. The park left a very pleasant impression.
Maria D — Google review
This is a great route, with the reward of a very cool, beautiful beach waiting for you at the end. Along the way you may encounter nice views, trees, plants, varanas, lizards, crabs and turtles. It's better to be in comfortable hiking shoes, but we managed in sundresses and sandals 😂

Flea & Street Markets
Bang Niang Market is a vibrant open-air marketplace in Khao Lak's Bang Niang district, offering local handicrafts and street foods year-round. It's a must-visit for those seeking an authentic Thai cultural experience. Just a short ride north from La On, this area boasts a famous food and souvenir market with less crowded spaces compared to other areas. While not the largest beach, Bang Niang offers a perfect sunset, calm waters for swimming, and shady spots for relaxation.
Fun very large market with a wide variety of vendors. Many souvenirs options, t shirts and well known brand (most likely knockoffs but not bad quality…) backpacks. You can easily spend a few days walking through this market but before you go make sure to check it’s open since they close 3 days a week.
Atara S — Google review
They have price fixing and not everyone wants to negotiate the prices of certain goods. The assortment is rich and they also consider tourists to be rich. Some sellers believe that if you want to know the price, you have to buy it. The food is delicious and at good prices.
Hubert W — Google review
Busy and hundreds of stalls, be careful with prices and haggle well as a tourist market they charge a premium and the next shop over will likely be half the price.. good fun though and great selection of Thai delights.. food choice is great with local specialties such as crocodile and bugs!
Kieran B — Google review
Mix of food and product vendors, many selling the same items (you may prefer to browse through entirely first before buying). Minimal bargaining possible, catered for tourists. Overall not a must see. We liked the ice cream rolls and joined a long line which moves slow only because each order is made with theatrics. The end result is airy and light. Taxis / tuktuks available along main road end of market with flat rates back to hotels (pending distance).
A2B E — Google review
It’s a big night market that caters to tourists. You can tell as no locals eat or buy anything from there. The store that sells clothes and stuff are repetitive and the usual tourist goods, there are no price tags and prices and 2-3x that of shops out of this area. There are much better night markets that local go to for a better overall experience.
CK C — Google review
Loved our visits to these markets. Good range of local and knock off products. Always worth bargaining and you get better results if you are pleasant and happy.

Ton Chong Fa Waterfall, located approximately 7 km from Bang Niang, is a popular attraction in Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park. The waterfall consists of five levels, with the first level accessible after a twenty-minute walk through a lush rainforest. Visitors can cool off in the large pool at this level before embarking on a more challenging hike to reach the higher levels. The journey to the upper levels involves navigating narrow and steep paths, making it suitable for physically fit travelers.
Only 100 baht for entrance and great waterfalls. You can get to to the first waterfall Stage quite easy but after that you have to do quite some hiking and walking through water. We've done it with sandals quite easy and some parts can be done barefoot. The water is very clean and fresh and nice for a dip. But don't expect to have a relaxing day as the pool areas are quite small
Moritz G — Google review
A beautiful scenic reserve that has 4 different waterfalls! Entrance fee is 100 baht per person, and it includes all 4 waterfalls and a small pool. The distance from the entrance to the 4th and last waterfall is only 1.5km, so I really suggest going straight to it, then entering the waterfalls you liked the most (also, because it's much nicer just going down the road when you're wet, as opposed to climbing the entire way while being wet). It was a very quick walk, and took us only about 45 mins walking from the entrance to the last waterfall, we took some pics on the way, and only on the way back we entered the ones that weren't packed with people (which obviously depends on the weather and time of day). If you're in Khao Lak, this is definitely a must visit!!
Maya I — Google review
For 100 bht you get to visit the gorgeous multi tiered falls. I have been here both in rainy and dry season. Dey season you will see very little water. Rainy season is the best time to go and does not effect the tack much. The first part in easily traversed however does have multiple big hills. To get the the higher levels the path is mountainous and consists of natural obstacles which you may have to exert some effort to traverse. We passed a few tourists during our trekking however most don’t make it past the first waterfall. Exercise caution and common sense and you will be fine. The uppermost falls are absolutely worth the effort. We spent a few hours here and had a great time.
Julz P — Google review
Great hike! The waterfall has 5 levels on a straight hike. I stopped at 2. More advanced hikers can keep going. Entrance fee was 100 baht and they sell water (20 baht) and snacks. Spent about 90 minutes here total. The taxi I took waited for me for the return trip to the hotel.
Laura Z — Google review
The national park and waterfalls are beautiful however, the facilities are terrible. There are 2 toilets (at beginning and one at the end) avoid the one at the end, its disgusting, considering you have to pay for entry to the park, they should at least maintain the toilet facilities. The one at the entrance is clean and presentable. Also, the crossing points over some of the waterfalls have all been washed away after heavy rains and so it can be dangerous for people to get across, at some points the crossing mainly rope, planks and branches have all been washed away making it extremely difficult, if not impossible to get to the last waterfall. The walk is approx. 1.5kms to the waterfalls and there are 3-5 waterfalls with varying degrees of flow. You can dip your feet in and cleaner fish will come and nibble on your dead skin... its a great location on a sunny day but be careful during the monsoon season, as the path can succumb to flooding and the way back to the main road from the reserve can get huge puddles and running water if on a bike. There is also a lack of supervision or safety staff around, so if you get in trouble there are no staff present to help. Definitely a place for the steady and fairly agile. Besides the negatives I mentioned here, the reserve and waterfalls deserve a 5*.
Travel S — Google review
Great waterfall to visit. Plenty of water in May. It's a decent trek in, maybe 2km and a 100m elevation. Not ideal for oldies or tiny kids. Worth getting to the top, the signature falls - the swimming in #2 or visiting the "fish spa" at the beginning. Entry is Bt20 for locals, Bt100 for foreigners. It is a national park, so don't be surprised if you meet some wildlife. We saw a snake, plenty of lizards and some overly friendly fish. Bug spray recommended.
Rob L — Google review
We went there on weekday morning, there was no wait time, ticket was 100 or 200 thb, don’t remember exactly. Just for your knowledge this is not suitable for strollers, if you plan to visit place with kids get ready for steep climb.

Khao Lak Beach is a relatively new beach destination in an area that previously had little local population or nearby towns. It's a peaceful resort area ideal for those seeking tranquility, but not suitable for those looking for nightlife and excitement. The beach is lined with palm trees and offers scenic sunset views, making it a popular spot for leisurely walks. Khao Lak is divided into different village sections, each offering its own unique charm.
Lovely beach, sandy and great for swimming, surfing. Seafood Resturants around the beach. Great for families

This beach is a very clean, calm and nice beach. It’s not crowded at all. You can witness some amazing sunsets on the beach. It’s a great beach to just take your beach towel and a good book. A mini picnic basket will be useful too. If you are interested in taking pictures, then the water looks blue in the afternoon so that’s the time for some great pics too :)

Beautiful beach with very nice views in the evening. It's a very good place to take pictures and picnic in the morning/late evening when there's no so much sun. I enjoyed running on the beach barefooted and exploring the rocks for little crabs, fish and snails.

Bang Niang Beach, located in Khao Lak, Thailand, is a popular destination known for its vibrant atmosphere and variety of attractions. Lovely beach. Close to some nice bars but not spoilt by big hotels.
Andrew B — Google review
The beach is long, wide, almost deserted. The sand is yellow, coarse, clean. The entrance to the sea is smooth.
Maria D — Google review
Maybe it was nice once but now, the are no bars, restaurants or any other walk in establishments next to the beach, only huge places like Ramada who have sliced up the beach. If you don't stay there you have no place to hang out if you want to take a swim. The resorts have walls or concrete platforms running all the way down to the beach so at high tide you can't even walk along the water. Usually at least these kind of huge resort complexes will have their restaurants and bars open to the sides to encourage walk-ins but not here. There is no beach promenade and if you happen to get trapped in one the only way out is to try and work your way up and out though the back, basically all the way up into town. If you want a good beach experience get over to coconut beach instead.
Matti J — Google review
Water clarity is poor which seems to be the case on Khao Lak beaches, I stood on a Fire jellyfish (ouch) as I couldn’t see the bottom! Still stunning scenery but not quite the paradise beaches I had expected

Part of Khaolak, this area saw devastation from the boxing day tsunami, the locals have bounced back like only the Thais know how. Fantastic beach of two halves. We stayed at the northern side and could walk right round to the northern headland. There is still an amount of rebuilding work to be done on the beach front but Rome wasn't built in a day as the saying goes. Favourite bar was Pak Pirania, owned and run by Mr Pak. Great host and great bar with his wife's restaurant on the side, serving great Thai cuisine. One for the road! The town of Bang Niang is small enough to walk round and has a superb night market but only open Mondays , Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Plenty of bars and restaurants to go at. Thai meal with a beer for about £6. Lots of day trips too, Surin Islands, James Bond Island etc but barter for best prices. A visit to the Tsunami Memorial is highlighted with one of the police launches that was washed inland to where it stands today morning than a kilometre from the sea . A very sombre, humbling experience.

[please "like if this is helpful] Beautiful, clean, sand beach. Great for photos. I didn't see a lifeguard. Respect and understand the sea current and tide. I did see a riptide, which are common to beaches. There are several bar restaurants to choose

Perched on a hill in Khuekkhak, KhaoLak Phu View offers a cozy and relaxed dining experience with stunning views of the Andaman Sea. The restaurant serves a variety of Western and Thai dishes, including fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Accessible via a steep road or shuttle service, it's known for its romantic ambiance and delicious food. Additionally, visitors can arrange sunset dinner cruises in the nearby Phang Nga Bay for an unforgettable experience.
A place with a stunning view, delicious food and reasonable prices, what can you ask for more? The restaurant is located at an elevated point overlooking the main road and the sea. The view is gorgeous, especially during the sunset. Since getting there may be challenging for some (it's a bit of a steep climb), they offer free transportation from the road to the restaurant and back even to your hotel. The only small caveat I noticed was the service which was a bit slow, but understandable since the place does not have a lot of staff.
Serban V — Google review
We had a great time at the restaurant. We stayed on until the monsoon rain passed. Food is so yummy. Homecooked Thai food. Very nice mango sticky rice dessert. The owners blessed us with their homegrown mangosteen and rambutans. So sweet and juicy as it was the season. They provide free transport from the main road. We would see the Andaman sea. Beautiful.
Jophia B — Google review
Now, I'm a self confessed harsh critic of quality food, but after a recommendation of the 'view', up on hill, adjacent to the Sands hotel, we tried this place on our last night in Khaolak. The food was absolutely fantastic , except for spring rolls...they we ok though my Mrs liked but my daughter and I thought they tasted like coleslaw in a spring roll...not that bad really but f me, everything else was delicious. The 'thai' style prawns are the best prawns I've had- PERIOD. This includes back home in Australia, Singapore, Bali, Malaysia etc. They were immaculately cooked in what I can only describe as a panang style flavoured curry with some long green beans (chopped in battalions). They were relatively expensive in scheme of things here at around $9 each ($AU) or 180 thai bhat, but had a feeling they would be of good size...I was not let down. If you like prawns, drop anything and everything that you're doing and go to Phu View. Next time I'm in the area, I'll order just 5-6 of these prawns and some plain rice. Massaman chicken curry is also delicious with the right viscosity and protein to veg ratio. Thai style whole fried fish also super yum, crispy with a sweet, sour spicy sauce. Gotta be one of the best restaurants in Khao Lak surely!! 👌
Michael D — Google review
This has a great view and to catch sunset is a treat. The food was great, we had barracuda in Thai sauce and a chicken Haw Mok. Not available in town but we'll worth a try. Service was good but as with most restaurants don't expect meals to come out together. Only down side was a close table of 8 Aussies who liked the sound of their own voices so spoilt a quiet dinner.
Karen K — Google review
What a cool place! Great view and amazing food. Fish was fresh and the taste was really good. The pineapple chicken curry was so tasty. Prices are as cheap as on the street and yet the service is 5 star.

We went here back in October 2023! We got picked up from our hotel in one of those Jeeps or Fords where you can sit in the trunk. The route up was steep but really fun! Once arrived the view was just insanely beautiful! With a view like this and amazing food what can go wrong?

We had 4 dishes of Thai food, and they were all amazing…so authentic, just like what Mom cooks at home! The salted caramel ice cream was also delicious. Highly recommend this place!

In my opinion this is the best vegan friendly restaurant in Khao Lak. Thai dishes are really good and can all be made vegan, while western dishes like sandwiches or wraps are also available. They also have oat milk for tea/coffee. The staff takes real good care of you and your needs. They understand veganism really well so just sit back and enjoy the delicious meals. They accept card for payments with 3% markup, and have fast wifi. While Beyond The Root is fully vegan, in terms of hospitality and service Qcumber really outshines it.

The food was delicious. I would recommend the chicken sandwich(the bun was crispy and tasty, cheese was great too) Tom yum was also good. The grilled pork was dry though. The atmosphere was great, old vintage tables and chairs. Service was okay.

We tried the spicy spaghetti and the massaman curry , both were very nice ! The place is cute and just at the khao lak bus stop so it’s very convenient to reach here . The staff is friendly and the food was freshly made.
Mariya Z — Google review
A cute little restaurant with both western & Thai food. We came with the goal to eat a few Thai dishes, so I'm not sure this place was the best choice as they declare themselves that their specialty most recommended dishes are actually the western ones (such as make your own salads, wraps, western salads like caesar, etc.). We ordered a chicken gyoza, spring rolls, garlic pepper pork, grilled pork salad & a sweet corn salad. Out of everything we ordered, we liked the sweet corn salad & the chicken gyoza the most, while the rest of the dishes were ok, but nothing too special that was worth coming back for. The grilled pork in the salad was kinds dry and chewy, and the ingredients of the salad didn't make sense to me together (although its sauce was delicious). The staff was kind, but considering the level of the food & portion sizes, we found the prices quite high, so it also wasn't a high VFM meal. To conclude, if you're planning on eating here, I'd probably recommend going for the western dishes and avoiding the Thai dishes.

Hill Tribes Restaurant, established in 2008, is the first in Khao Lak to offer northern Thai cuisine. The owner and chef, Khun San, hails from Chiang Rai and is dedicated to showcasing the culture of northern Thailand through his culinary creations. Despite some negative reviews, it's widely regarded as one of the best authentic Thai food spots in the area.
If you Googled “best restaurant in Khao Lak”, you’d most likely stumble across the thousands of reviews about Hill Tribe on Trip Advisor and Google (like I did). I figured this place was worth trying... all those people can’t be wrong (but hey, who knows?). All I have to say about this restaurant is that it certainly WAS the best food I’ve eaten in Khao Lak! All our dishes surpassed my expectations and the service was impeccable. Even when the power went down for a few minutes (guess that happens from time to time), we were greeted with a candle. So full after dinner, our bellies content, we were then surprised by banana fritters (OMG! So good!!). Do yourself a favour when you visit Khao Lak - eat here!

Ignore the negative reviews of this restaurant. Definitely the best authentic Thai food in the area and some of the best I’ve tasted. It’s a lovely family run restaurant near Biang Niang market, that specialises in northern thai cuisine. All of our dishes were excellent - the perfect larb; deep fried freshly caught white snapper with a spicy green mango salad, banana flower curry and the spicy fried pork. It’s decor is wooden and slightly Burmese in style. Well worth going out of your way for!

Nestled in the stunning Khao Lak region, Devasom Beach Grill & Bar is a culinary gem that has earned its place in the esteemed MICHELIN Guide for two consecutive years. We had several Happy Hour drinks and meals at the Devasom Beach Grill &Bar during our stay and it was great. Beautifully located overlooking the main Resort pool and the beach allowing us to view some stunning sunsets. Nestled in the vibrant area of Khao Lak, Pinocchio offers a delightful escape for lovers of Italian cuisine. With its charming outdoor seating and prime location near the Ramada resort, it's an ideal spot for enjoying a meal while people-watching. The restaurant boasts a wood-fired pizza oven that produces mouthwatering pizzas alongside homemade pasta dishes that are simply unforgettable.
Ordered delivery through Mealdropper and it was super easy. I love Italian and I was very impressed by the Ravioli with cream sauce. It was light and perfectly done. Not too much Parmesan, perfectly balanced cream, butter, cheese. Thank you! The pizza dough was outstanding as well. Ingredients were top notch and the price reflects this, but you will be happy. As a Germany person who’s been to Italy a lot and know authentic pizzas, I can say that this place is quite good! It’s nothing compared to original pizza of course but they get pretty close to it and that’s hard to find out if Europe I guess! Staff is really attentive, friendly and motivated and the service is really good. Pizzas were yummy, but prices are for Thai standards relatively high. Nevertheless, 10/10 can only recommend!

Service - okay. The taller waiter came off slightly arrogant bemused in why I was taking photos of the food :) Seafood Spaghetti marinara bland, definitely needed some seasoning in the sauce base. 3/5 Pizzas, overall taste were good 4/5

Amazing Italian food! Loved every dish we ordered; the classic pizza margarita, penne al formaggio, baked gnocchi and pesto spaghetti! We had bruschetta and zucchini fritters too, but those were just ok. Finished it all with the homemade amazing pane cotta, tiramisu and banana split. The staff were quick and very pleasant as well! Highly recommended!

Finding an open restaurant at 2pm on Sunday was not an easy task. We wanted Italian and all of the other places were closed. We were happy about this. The food was on par with what you wood expect. No complaints. The service was excellent. There were only two tables in the restaurant, but our server was very attentive. Also, all of the food was discounted 30%. Bonus!!

Perfect pizza, great attentive staff, the best Italian restaurant in the south , authentic Italian cuisine! ... people who write a bad review often getting paid by the competition. I go there nearly every day when I am in that area and the food is always delicious fresh and Ramon is a great person. Speaks five languages and cares a lot about his customers. People who say 320 bath for a pizza (10$) is too expensive have no clue about import prices for food from oversea in Bangkok you pay easily double. I love this place

This place is delicious!! They have a great tenderloin steak deal, 490 baht and its a choice steak!! Big thick cut of neat, cooked perfectly. The pasta is possibly the best ive ecer had, cooked and made in house. Everything here was great!! I qte 2 steaks in like, 16 hours, then went back for the fettuccibe alfredo and the tortellini. Bruschetta is fantastic. The owner is a nice guy, threw in free ice cream for my daughter, lemoncellos for the adults ❤️❤️❤️🙏 great place
