Indonesian restaurant
Jenny's Restaurant is a charming and affordable dining spot located near Lake Toba, making it a highly recommended destination for weary travelers looking to unwind and savor delicious meals. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring both local Indonesian dishes and international cuisine. One of their standout specialties is the unique grilled fish, which has become a favorite among patrons. Known for its popularity, Jenny's can get quite busy any night of the week, attracting both domestic and foreign tourists.
Best baby lobsters of all the restaurants in Tuktuk and delicious kangkung. The baby lobsters were perfectly cooked and had the most meat. We went here twice during our 4 night stay!

Thicc pancakes 🥞 and turgid chewy sate skewers makes for a jolly Jenny! Cozy little family run restaurant with a wide variety of western food, although the service is a little wanting. Serving size is hefty but taste is a sombre so-so. Love their variety of blended fruit juices, especially the tamarillo and avocado. Pricing is tourist range so cough up those millions!
Sam S — Google review
Good pizza at Jenny's, long wait for food and place with good atmosphere. We ordered 2 pizzas and a beer. The pizzas were a little small but tasted good and had a good amount of toppings. The service was quite slow, but the place was almost full. Consider going earlier rather than later as it gets full by 730pm.

Ok so we just finish our food here.. to get straight to the point.. food was 12 out of 10! We ordered grilled fish, satay ayam and shrimps balado. We shared these three meals + one rice by the two of us and we were full! So good/ big portions. All of these meals where super delicious. It’s a small restaurant and at time of writing it’s low season so restaurant wasn’t busy. Normally I look at places and when it’s busy it normally means it’s good. But as mentioned it’s low season so only one other table. So after reading some mix reviews we decided to give it a try and oh boy I’m happy we did. Yes, it took a while before we got our food. But he, you ( probably) are on holiday, so why the hurry? We had a beer, probably two before we got our food. The service was good, lady was friendly and recommended us the shrimp since they have different ways they cook it. All together. Lovely evening. Amazing food and nice service. We recommend to go here if you like good food! If you like fast food, maybe Mac Donald’s is more your thing. If you liked the food as we did, walk in to the kitchen and thank the chef, she will be happy with this small gesture 😊

The most expensive item in the menu but it tastes so so only. The shelf is quite hard and they only cut the head open but not the rest of the body. It's a battle to finish this dish. The saus padang ala Jenny is not padang about it. It's on the sweet side. The wodden floor near steps is very shaky, it really effect my eating mood.

Had dinner here on our first night, and already can’t wait to return. Cozy restaurant and their Beef Rendang is superb. Highly recommend! They also have a bbq which also looked amazing!

Good food good ambience.. The peanut sauce for the gadogado salad was abit spicy for my taste bt was flavorful
Mariya A — Google review
Waited a bit before I got the menu as the staff are all busy behind the kitchen. Nice and quaint place. The grilled sour and sweet fish is probably the best. I like the chap chai - simple and well cooked, with little oil. The chicken soup was a little too salty for us. Overall nice place, need a little bit of more staffing and avoid the salty soup.

Cafe
Restaurant
The cafe Buddhas Cafe is a vegan restaurant with beautiful gardens and delicious food. The staff are friendly and laidback, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the food. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent here, and I would recommend it for a quick stop.
Delicious food, beautiful lake view and nice owners. The durian Ice-cream was interesting and the drinks were exceptional. We loved the garden and statues as well, although the rubbish heap in one corner of the garden was off-putting and saddening. All in all,a nice experience ♥️
Réka F — Google review
Reasonably priced with generous portion. The Cafe has the Outdoor Garden Style with many spots for photos. It has plenty of stone tables by the beach which provides a scenic view of Lake Toba. We were served well by Kak Lisna who is friendly and informative. She told us that the frangipani flowers are not just decorations. It is edible as well. Will definitely come back again…

This restaurant is a haven for vegans, offering a delightful array of plant-based dishes and snacks, crafted with the finest vegan ingredients. The ambiance is equally inviting, adorned with captivating sculptures and Buddha statues that create a sense of tranquility and serenity, perfect for both photo opportunities and peaceful moments. Whether you're a dedicated vegan, a curious omnivore, or simply seeking something new, this place is definitely worth a try.

Recommended vegan restaurant around Tuktuk Samosir area. Dine with green and lake view. Came on evening time is better for the lakeview spot. It was so serene there. Foodwise, indomie goreng never go wrong. Ice cream dessert was the best. And a very kind service by the boy & girl children waiter. 👍👍 Very much room to improve to make it the best vegan restaurant in Samosir.

Incredible vegan food in a gorgeous, peaceful garden by the water, that is super well-kept and decorated with beautiful mosaics. Staff is very friendly and laidback. We had both breakfast and dinner here, because it was just that good😍
Dennis V — Google review
For those who are vegan, dont worry when you are on Samosir Island, you could have your tasty brunch or dinner here. Borobudur House is a pure vegan place and it also non smoking place that set near the lake side. So you could enjoy your dish in the calm garden or on the lake side enjoying incredible scenery of lake toba and the mountains. . I loved their guacamole with home made chips. For the chips, one is original onion chips and another one is chocolate onion. Can’t really tasted the chocolate but it suits well with the fresh taste from the guacamole. . Their home made sorbet ice cream also great, sweet and tasted almost like the ice cream that we used to have in Kesawan, Medan, The one next to Bata Shoes Store. Here they have various flavors such as Dragon Pineapple, Pinacolada, Dark Chocolate, Mango Coconut, Passionate Mango, Strawberry Coconut, but i tried the Durian. . Their Hawaiian Fried Rice is like every other Hawaiian Fried Rice, nothing special but it stills tastes good. There are many other attracting main dish you could try or you could also checkout their daily’s special. . 💲25k IDR for Ice Cream Sorbet. 💲35k IDR for Guacamole with Chips. 💲35k IDR for Hawaiian Fried Rice. 💲15k IDR for Lipton Hot Tea.

Nice view, delicious sorbet Not very experienced in serving food imo They didn't put the sorbet menu in the same sheet, you have to ask for the menu flavours to the waiter. Which is inconvenient and not effective since they known for the home made sorbet
J H — Google review
You need to accept the place is full of Buddhu and related things. It is worth it because the food is amazing for very good prices. The location is far out from the normal tourist areas of the island but we'll worth the visit. Recommend a walk along the gardens and exploring all the details of this peaceful location. Services is outstand and the alien directing you to the bathrooms if needed is awesome. Just don't understand how a vegan cafe can have a cat. Hope it are not forcing the cat to be vegan.

Batak restaurant
Indonesian restaurant
Maruba Restaurant is a charming spot located just off the main road in Tuktuk, offering beautiful views of the lake. It's known for serving Batak dishes, and it's appreciated if you visit the evening before or around lunchtime to select your dinner choices as these dishes require time for their flavors to develop. The menu features a variety of Indonesian and Western options, with standout dishes like barbecue fish and freshwater lobster.
Yes we highly recommend this place. We ordered the Bakwan, Bihun Goreng, Urab, Ayam Semur, Nasi, Ikan Teri Sambal, and Buncis Tomato. Our personal favourites included the Ayam Semur, Urab, Bihun and Ikan Teri. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The food is cooked fresh. You can request if you prefer your food less spicy. Also, they do not overdo salt in their food, it's just the right amount. I will be surprised if you do not enjoy their cooking.

Sadly, we were quite disappointed by our visit at Maruba Restaurant. Service was friendly, but the food was simply not good. The garlic bread were two slices of sandwich bread with some garlic. The bruschetta was also served on toast. The lime juice tasted bland. The other dishes were ok. Also, one person did have some stomach issues later at night. Since we didn’t have lunch that day it must have been from dinner. Vegan and vegetarian options available.

Great view of the lake during the day time. Wanted to get lunch here at 11.40am, but the cook wasn't in even though it was opened so came back for dinner. They serve local dishes like the ikan arsik, but its fish has the taste of soil (some people are okay with it). The pizza used instant dough, so it wasn't great (although the pineapples were really sweet). Would recommend the brinjal with sambal and mie goreng. The mixed vegetables, gado gado (a bit sweet), prawn dishes are alright too. The satay tastes okay, except that it isn't grilled. Would mostly recommend coming here for the day time view.

One of the best fish dishes I've ever had in my life! I ordered a traditional Batak dish – ikan arsik, a freshwater fish slowly simmered in a rich, flavorful sauce full of Batak spices. The fish was incredibly juicy and tender – it literally fell apart on the fork and melted in my mouth. It was served with long green beans and slices of local vegetables that soaked up the sauce beautifully. The most surprising part was the tingling, slightly numbing sensation on my tongue while eating – almost like something minty or cooling, but without a mint taste. I suspect it came from andaliman, the famous Batak "magic spice" – similar to Sichuan pepper, but more citrusy and electric. Strange, but honestly a very enjoyable experience. I also had a freshly squeezed pineapple juice – cold and refreshing. For dessert, I tried a pancake filled with pineapple. The pancake itself was great, but the pineapple chunks inside had a slightly fermented taste. I assume this happened because they were fresh and then reheated – just not to my personal liking, even though I normally love pineapple. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I came late in the evening, so the place was peaceful, and the view over the bay was stunning – really added to the atmosphere. The only downside was some small insects buzzing around – it would help to have a repellent or citronella candle on the table. Despite that, this was a truly memorable food experience. If you're anywhere near Lake Toba and want to try something authentic, flavorful, and local – this is the place.

Maruba Restaurant and Maruba Inn is a true gem in TukTuk. We enjoyed delicious food at the restaurant, served by humble and kind staff who made us feel very welcome. The views from the property are absolutely beautiful — the perfect setting to relax and unwind. We stayed at the inn and loved the cozy rooms, each with easy access to the lake. Waking up to the peaceful water and natural surroundings was a highlight of our trip. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great food, warm hospitality, and a relaxing place to stay by the lake.

Very friendly staff. The menu also includes pizza, which the kids enjoyed. We had a table with a great view of the lake, and the special sauce on the Bumbu Rujak was absolutely delicious!

Lake Toba is the biggest volcano lake in the world. Within the lake, there is Samosir island which is around 90% of total size of Singapore (as of today). Spent 2 days on Samosir Island. Had Ikan Arsik at this restaurant. The fish was very fresh and the cooking exotic. The lakeview is even nicer. I keep recalling the day I sat beside the window and sipping my coffee after I left so many days.

Very very good food and nice atmosphere. Friendly cheffin and waitresses. Original Batak cuisine but also Indonesian specialties. Nice view on Lake Toba from the open dinner place. Please note that some dishes need to be ordered in advance because of the long preparations but they are surely worth it.

We had the most wonderful experience here! The afternoon tea was both beautiful and delicious, and our evening meal was absolutely fantastic, made even better with great live music from the band. The staff were amazing – so kind, friendly, and genuinely happy, which made the atmosphere even more special. We only wish we had discovered this place earlier in our stay!

Food was good (we had a tasty range of Japanese dishes) and the cloudy view was still beautiful. Ordering was all done via QR code and internet app which seemed to reduce staff attentiveness, finished plates remained on the table and when we ordered dessert, it hadn’t arrived 30 mins later despite the restaurant being quiet and staff regularly passing by. When we approached the bar (where staff were hanging out) and asked we were informed our dessert choice was sold out and offered alternatives. Disappointing level of service being ignored for that long when we’d placed an order via their system and the computer had logged it on to a ticket/the bill. Was okay once but wouldn’t go back, prices were higher than service level.

Had an amazing teppanyaki experience at Escape Rooftop, Marianna Hotel Samosir. Chef Fauzan (cmiiw) was excellent, and the warm hospitality from Ms. Farida truly made us feel welcome right from the start. Thank you for understanding and accommodating the guests’ needs so thoughtfully. All the food served was incredibly fresh and delicious. Although I couldn’t try the beef variants, everything else was more than satisfying. It was truly an unforgettable experience in Samosir. Thank you once again for the wonderful service and the delightful meal!

If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy delicious food with your loved ones, look no further than Todays Cafe. This charming eatery boasts a vintage interior design that adds to its inviting atmosphere. The menu features delightful dishes like the Gado Gado and Chicken Rendang, both of which are generously portioned and made fresh upon order—so be prepared for a little wait, but trust me, it's worth it! Don't miss out on their unique guacamole chapati either.
The food is very much different from what you get in other of the usual warungs/restaurants. I had an avocado with genuine espresso in the morning. For dinner I had an extrordinary tasty pepper chicken steak with fries. Make sure to come early as it can be full.

After 4 nights in Tuktuk I’m sorry to say that we only had our first meal here on our last night. The staff were friendly and the Indonesian food was great. Highly recommended are the Grilled fish with the andaliman (pepper) sauce and the rendang.

I had the fried fish with tomato sauce and white rice. The fish was deliciously crispy. The service was good and friendly. Five stars!
Martin W — Google review
A casual place to eat with insanely big portions. The banana pancake was so unique and way too big for one person, I persisted and fell into a sugar coma. We were back the next day to try the potato randang and sweet and sour vegetables. The randang was the closest I’ve found to traditional randang so far in my trip, with lemongrass and whole spices throughout the thick pasty sauce, while it didn’t go super well with potatoes it did make for a nice vegetarian option. I’m sure the beef would be fantastic. The sweet and sour vegetables were your typical pineapple juice and ketchup sweet and sour (not a bad thing, but it’s nothing special). Nice chunks of pineapple and fresh vegetables made it a great sweet dish to balance out the spice and intensity of the randang. The two dishes which were incredibly cheap split between the two of us with a pot of tea and white rice filled us up so much we almost couldn’t finish it. I cannot express enough how large the portions are. It’s great. Service is slow, even when quiet, but that’s fine by me as the food is so fresh and there is only 1 or 2 people working at a time (both cooking and serving). Bring your computer and get some work done on the free Wi-Fi (code is on the front page of the menu) or chill out on the lounge chairs on the balcony. We stayed for hours working on our laptops. The staff are lovely and very accomodating, you’ll feel comfortable here as a foreigner, even if you’re a solo traveler. It’s usually quite quiet. I don’t have much experience with drinks here but the hot tea I’ve ordered has come with the sugar seperate which is great to get it to the sweetness level of your liking. To the owners, you have a gem here, keep it the way it is, it’s a fantastic place to eat.

The people working there are kind and the food was really good. Everything was freshly prepared. Also the restaurant is nicely decorated which ensured a cozy feeling.

Nice restaurant and friendly service. Had the gado gado and mie goreng. Both good but the gado gado had maybe too much saté sauce.

Disappointed. One hour waiting for this "pork and vegetables tacos". Definetly they don't have enough staff. They didn't even clear the previous diner's plates when they brought us our food. And for an hour and a half, smoked by the cigarettes of the customer behind us.

One of the best restaurant in Samosir. We ate here 3 times in a row. Chicken Schnitzel and Chicken steak is number one! Big portions, good price, friendly staff! Recommended!
