Galle is a city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. It’s known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone sea walls, expanded by the Dutch, encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip.

Galle Dutch Fort, originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later renovated by the Dutch and British, is a well-preserved sea fort that now houses museums, shops, and cafes. The area surrounding the fort is bustling with various businesses and restaurants. A visit to this historical site offers a glimpse into the architectural wonders of colonial powers. Despite its small size, there are numerous remarkable places to explore within the fort.
Galle Dutch Fort is an incredible place to visit — full of history, charm, and beautiful views. Walking along the ramparts at sunset is a highlight, with stunning scenery over the ocean on one side and the old town on the other. Inside the fort, the narrow streets are filled with colonial buildings, cafes, shops, and museums, all blending history with a relaxed coastal vibe. It’s well-preserved, easy to explore on foot, and has something for everyone, whether you’re into history, photography, or just enjoying the atmosphere. A must-visit when in Sri Lanka.

Visiting Galle Fort at night was an unforgettable experience. The moment I stepped inside the old stone walls, I felt a sense of calm and wonder. The entire fort had a peaceful atmosphere, very different from the daytime buzz. The narrow cobbled streets were softly lit with warm streetlights, and the cool breeze from the ocean made the walk even more refreshing. The historic charm of the Dutch architecture stood out beautifully under the night sky. Many small shops and cafés were still open, offering a cozy and welcoming vibe. Some had soft music playing, and the aroma of coffee and local food filled the air. The view from the fort walls was breathtaking — looking out at the dark sea under a sky full of stars was truly magical. There were couples walking hand-in-hand, friends laughing, and even solo travelers like me simply enjoying the moment. Everything felt safe and relaxed. Galle Fort at night is perfect if you’re looking for a quiet place to reflect, take photos, or just enjoy the beauty of history meeting the ocean. It’s not just a place to visit, it’s a place to feel. I highly recommend experiencing it after sunset — it has a charm you won’t find anywhere else.

Galle Fort is a major tourist attraction for both locals and foreigners. On weekends, the area gets quite crowded, and kids especially love flying kites here. The sunset is breathtaking — highly recommended, as long as the weather cooperates! There are several interesting places to visit within the fort, and you’ll find many cafés with different vibes, making it a lively and vibrant area. Walking around Galle Fort at night is something I truly enjoy.

We had such a wonderful time exploring the Galle Dutch Fort as a couple with our 10-year-old. It’s such a charming place — full of history, character, and amazing ocean views. We visited the lighthouse, clock tower, and walked along the rampart walls, catching the sunset from Flag Rock Bastion Point — absolutely stunning! The golden light over the ocean made it feel magical. We also enjoyed a bit of shopping at Spa Ceylon and Barefoot, wandered through the quaint alleys, and treated ourselves to some ice cream before having dinner at one of the food courts near the entrance. The blend of colonial architecture, relaxed vibe, and sea breeze made it a perfect family evening. Highly recommend spending a few hours here — it’s one of the most beautiful spots in Sri Lanka! 🌅🏰🌊

Lovely old town. Nice to walk around the fort, which takes you around 1h. Everything is free, but there are a lot of tuktuk drivers/taxi drivers who try to sell you a tour (you can easily explore on your own and read some signs for information) Good history.

Lovely views and a historical site. Lots of people both young and old, couples and families out relaxing and enjoying themselves. Beautiful photo opportunities and many restaurants around too. Many people just sat watching the world pass them by.

Galle Fort is a breathtaking blend of history, culture, and coastal charm. The cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and ocean views create an unforgettable atmosphere. From boutique cafes to art galleries, every corner tells a story. Perfect for a relaxing stroll, shopping, or sunset moments truly a gem of Sri Lanka!

Great place, definitely feels like a wonder of past. Greatly built, and amazing structures Now is a good tourist attraction of Galle, bunch of shops, restaurants, and many more. You can have a good walk around the coastline, enjoy the sea and sunset. Walk around and get an idea of the structures. Definitely will require 2/3 hours to explore fully. It is definitely a visit worthy place.

Galle Lighthouse, located within the historic Galle Fort in Sri Lanka, is a significant maritime structure with a rich history. Originally built by the British in the 19th century and now maintained by the Sri Lanka Port Authority, this cylindrical tower offers panoramic views of ships entering Galle harbor. It played a crucial role during world wars and continues to guide fishing boats today.
Galle Lighthouse ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Sunset Views & Ocean Charm The Galle Lighthouse, standing tall on the southeastern tip of the fort, offers spectacular Indian Ocean vistas and is perfect for photography enthusiasts. Highlights: Sunset walks along the ramparts, the lighthouse itself, and panoramic views of the bay. Nearby Spots: Flag Rock Bastion and small cafés—ideal for a relaxed snack or coffee. Tip: Best visited late afternoon to sunset for soft lighting and fewer crowds. Even if you’re short on time, the lighthouse alone is worth the stroll—it captures the essence of the fort’s coastal charm.

The oldest lighthouse in Sri Lanka, built originally by the British, it's located within Galle fort with breathtaking views of the sunset and ocean in general. It is walkable from the main entrance to the fort, and the fort area in general is beautiful all around so it's worth the walk. Go here in the evenings or mornings for nice sea breeze and dawn / dusk views. The heat during other parts of the day can be dissuading, so go prepared with hydration and sun protection.

We visited the Galle Fort Lighthouse as a couple with our 10-year-old, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! Watching the sunset by the lighthouse was absolutely magical — the sky turning shades of gold and pink over the ocean made it a picture-perfect moment. The area around the lighthouse is peaceful yet lively, with people strolling along the ramparts, enjoying the breeze, and capturing photos. Our kid loved exploring the spot and watching the waves crash against the rocks below. It’s a must-visit when in Galle Fort — especially during sunset. The view, the atmosphere, and the history all come together to create an unforgettable experience. 🌅⚓️🇱🇰

We visited the Galle Fort Lighthouse (on 2nd Nov) and had an unexpected but absolutely lovely experience. We originally thought it wasn’t possible to go inside, but then the door opened — and there stood the lighthouse keeper, Wigerarthne. He kindly guided us all the way to the top, where the view was simply magnificent. Afterwards, he took the time to explain the significance and the workings of the lighthouse. It was clear that Wigerarthne truly loves what he does. A wonderful and memorable visit – thank you, Wigerarthne!

A beautiful and peaceful spot with stunning ocean views! Galle Lighthouse is one of the most iconic places in the fort — perfect for photos, especially during sunset. The walk around the lighthouse and along the fort wall is lovely, with the sea breeze and relaxed vibe. Definitely a must-visit when in Galle!

The Galle Fort Lighthouse is truly one of the most iconic and picturesque spots in Sri Lanka. Located at the edge of the historic Galle Fort, it offers stunning panoramic views of the ocean, the ramparts, and the charming colonial architecture around. The area is beautifully maintained, and the lighthouse itself stands tall as a timeless symbol of Galle’s maritime heritage. It’s a great place to take a peaceful walk, enjoy the sea breeze, and capture some amazing photos—especially around sunset when the light hits the waves perfectly. The whole area around the lighthouse feels calm and filled with history, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring the Fort. Whether you’re visiting for the views, the history, or just to unwind by the ocean, the Galle Fort Lighthouse never disappoints!

Beautiful, photogenic, and knows it. You can’t go inside or climb it, but it looks amazing from every angle — like that friend who’s always camera-ready. Great for selfies, sunsets, and pretending you’re in a travel ad. Bring water, a camera, and your best “wow” face.

The most iconic light house inside the fortress. The place looks stunning at the morning and the evening(Golden hour). This whole place looks medieval type of buildings even the coffee shops. Portuguese era buildings and stunning breeze are the perfect things to relax. Free parking available all the time. That is the best thing. At the night this become even more beautiful.

Reformed church
Sights & Landmarks
The Dutch Reformed Church, also known as Groote Kerk, is a small 18th-century structure located in Galle, Sri Lanka. While its exterior may not be particularly impressive, the interior boasts stained-glass windows and tiled floors made of tombstones. The church's sparse and cavernous interior features floor etched memorials to the city's early Dutch settlers and a carved dedication to E.A.H Abraham on the southern wall.
Really great church to check out, amazing stained glass windows and these metal flooring carvings that looked amazing, outside they had stairs leading down beneath the ground that you can’t get down to, but do look awesome. A lot of tombstones on the property.

One of the iconic tourism location in Galle. This church highlights Galle's history with architecture of past times. Will take between 10 mins - 15 mins to cover the church. Nice photo location to keep memories of visiting galle, Sri Lanka.
Anjalo S — Google review
This is a very old dutch church. You can just walk inside and look around. There was a lady inside who was cleaning the place. When i ask about quatations she explain in a friendly way. There are tombstones on the floor.

5/5 – Iconic Historical Church in Galle Fort The Dutch Reformed Church in Galle is one of the oldest and most iconic landmarks inside the Galle Fort. You can simply walk inside and look around freely, and it really feels like stepping back in time. The architecture is beautiful and still preserves the colonial Dutch style. One of the unique things you’ll notice is that the floor is lined with old tombstones, which makes it both historic and a little unusual compared to other churches. It doesn’t take long to explore – around 10 to 15 minutes is enough to walk through, admire the details, and take a few photos. Still, it’s absolutely worth visiting as part of your Galle Fort tour because it highlights the history and culture of this coastal city. If you’re in Galle, don’t miss this stop – it’s quiet, peaceful, and full of stories from the past.

This is one of the oldest buildings in the Galle Fort. Iconic church. Admission is free of charge. This is like a museum as everything in here seems to have a great historical value. A must see if you are in Galle fort. Highly recommended.

Church from 1766 if I remember correctly Interesting to see as they have thumb stones paved floor and wall with some of this from 1706 Live church with messes this run in Sundays It's quite magical to see a piece of history that is still kept alive There was a man perhaps a pastor, who came out and gave me a short description and answered a few questions

We were impressed to find an old reformed church here, as we were not ecpecting to survive next colonial period. It really worth to visit. Watch your steps: you will see tombstones!
Eniko L — Google review
The Dutch Reformed Church in Galle, also known as the Groote Kerk, is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka, dating back to 1755. Built during the Dutch colonial period, this church stands as a testament to the country's rich colonial history. Its architecture is distinct, featuring a blend of European and local styles, with a serene yet slightly worn-down appearance that adds to its historic charm. When you visit, you'll notice beautiful stained glass windows, high wooden ceilings, and intricate carvings, all reminiscent of a time long past. The church was a place of worship for the Dutch settlers and has seen centuries of history, surviving wars, colonial changes, and the passage of time. Even though it may show signs of aging, it remains an iconic part of Galle’s heritage and is a must-visit for those who appreciate both history and architecture. If you're exploring Galle Fort, it's definitely worth stepping inside to feel the calm atmosphere and admire the timeless beauty of this historical site.

The National Museum Galle, housed in a circa-1656 Dutch building within the Galle Fort, offers a captivating journey into the traditional coastal life and colonial influences of the region. The museum showcases a diverse array of archaeological and anthropological artifacts such as traditional masks, ornaments, wooden carvings, Dutch ship equipment, and weaponry. As one of Sri Lanka's major national museums, it presents exhibitions that depict the country's history under Portuguese, Dutch, and British rule.
Great museum ! Many historical exhibits . Was a memorable experience! Very well maintained museum . ! A must visit place in the fort !

A very small but quaint museum detailing history of Galle. It is a little run down but has interesting displays of uniforms, weaponry, porcelain and furniture. Cheao entry price. You could spent 30 mins here as there are only a few rooms. I only lasted about 15 mins as there was no aircons and only one or two fans. I visited in the middle of the day and the heat and humidity was terrible inside. Plan to visit early in the morning.

The Galle National Museum, located within the historic Galle Fort, is a prominent cultural institution in Sri Lanka. It provides a glimpse into the history and heritage of the southern region of the country, focusing on its traditional crafts and colonial past. History and Building The museum is housed in a Dutch colonial building that is one of the oldest standing structures within the Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Constructed in 1656, the building originally served as a commissariat store for the Dutch garrison. It was later a billiards room for the adjacent New Oriental Hotel before being renovated and officially opened as a museum on March 31, 1986.

Set in a beautiful colonnaded white building that was built by the Dutch in the 17th century, the Galle National Museum won't take much of your time. It's still worth a visit because of the artifacts on exhibit and the very short history lesson that it will teach you about the city of Galle.
Georges Y — Google review
This museum contains some interesting pieces, but the overall presentation is poor and the explanatory text is often too cursory. The Maritime Museum a short distance away does a much better job of explaining and illustrating Sri Lanka’s cultural history.

Ticket: LKR 50 per local adult and LKR 25 for children. The whole area can be visited within 20–25 minutes. Some archaeological artifacts are displayed here. There is a separate section that shows historical facts about the China-Sri Lanka bond. The place is easily accessible, and ample paid parking spaces are available.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Japanese Peace Pagoda, located on Rumassala Hill near Unawatuna, is a serene Buddhist temple with a circular deck offering stunning views of the Indian Ocean and the surrounding landscapes. Constructed with the assistance of Japanese monks, this monumental stupa stands as a symbol of peace for people of all nationalities and faiths. Visitors can access the pagoda via a shaded path and will be greeted by its towering white structure adorned with gold-painted statues.
Japanese peace pagoda is situated at the top of Roomassala overlooking the Indian ocean. The temple is very calm, quiet with a stunning view of the sea and it has the ability to bring peace to your mind. I personally can stay for hours on end sitting on the temple grounds feeling the calming sea breeze, smelling the salty sea area and just looking at either the pagoda or the sea. Additionally, the monks hold a ritual at the evening like a prayer where they play a drum repeatedly. You can also participate in the ritual if you go to the temple in the evening. The temple is less crowded as well, so it is a perfect place to escape from the world for a brief moment.

Beautiful! We recommend you to visit this place. Make sure to cover shoulders and knees to visit. Parking is possible all the way up (500rps). The visit was free, but we donated some rps to the monk who resides there since 2004. He was really friendly and welcoming. Try to avoid moments when they do celebrations because it gets really crowded. Possibility to attend group ceremonies. Hours are shown there.

The Japanese Peace Pagoda at Rumassala is a truly serene place. Set on a hill above Unawatuna, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean, Galle Bay, and even the Galle Fort in the distance. Sunset here is especially beautiful. Recommended to visit in the morning or evening, since afternoon is too hot. The stupa itself is spotless white and surrounded by thick jungle, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. It was built by Japanese monks, and you can often hear soft chanting or ringing of the temple bell, which adds to the calmness. Access is easy by tuk-tuk, or you can hike up through the Jungle Beach trail if you prefer a bit of adventure. Entry is free, though donations are welcome. Free vehicle parking is also available. Just remember to dress modestly as it’s an active place of worship.

Located in the historic old Dutch Hospital in Galle Fort, The Tuna & The Crab is a culinary gem owned by Dharshan Munidasa. This restaurant offers a menu featuring popular dishes from its Colombo counterparts, including top-quality lagoon crabs prepared in various styles, such as garlic-chilli crab and pepper crab.
The food at Tuna & The Crab is next-level! Every dish is packed with flavor, made with super fresh ingredients, and so well put together. You have to try the Kani Chahan with Teriyaki Chicken – it’s an unbeatable combo. Their Tuna & Avocado Sushi, Seafood Okonomiyaki, French Toast, and Iced Tea are all must-haves too – each one is a treat in its own way. I have been here over 10 times in the past two years, and it never disappoints. If you’re in the Galle Dutch Hospital area, this spot is a total must-visit for amazing, fresh food. Read this, try it, and thank me later! 😌

Loved the food here. We were hungry for Japanese food and especially this restaurant that we had been wanting to go for so long. The food was delicious. We got the crab okonomiyaki, the crab fried rice, the bento box and prawn tempura-all the dishes were bursting with flavour . My only critical feedback- the restaurant needs better interiors. The current interior is OK but it could be more inviting!

Very quiet place. Fast service. Great sashimi. No service fees, so don't forget to leave the tips to your waiter.

Came here and ate the tuna sushiroll for 15$ for 8 pieces of sushi. The rice was perfect. Tuna was soft and delicious- all in all, a great sushi. But I think it is quite overpriced. The atmosphere was cool with some of the meals prepared right infront of you. Fast service.
Drago A — Google review
I was pleasantly surprised seeing the menu that this restaurant is by the world famous chef himself! The menu had a lot of interesting crab options to choose from including some of the signature flavours from the Ministry of Crab itself. We were saving ourselves for MoC so we didn't try any of the crab though it did look very appetising. The food we ordered however was very delicious and we were very happy with what we ordered. The prawn dry ramen was very interesting and tasty - perfect balance of flavours with a deep rich prawn umami flavour coming through. The chicken 🍱 box was as advertised with a nice selection of sushi and really flavourful Chicken teriyaki. The egg wrapped sushi (forget the name of it) was very tasty as well. All in all, we had a really good experience. We have one comment though, the airconditioning at the restaurant was not keeping up with the heat and the single fan that was in the dining area didn't quite reach us - this could be a room for improvement but I didn't deduct points from the overall experience for this as the food was excellent.

A foodie friend recommended this place and boy we’re glad we had dinner at The Tuna & The Crab! Warm and classy interiors akin to a modern izakaya albeit with lots of tropical foliage, the atmosphere is cozy and the staff attentive. The menu’s quite limited, but we later discovered that every dish we ordered was brilliant. Meat lovers feasted on the US Rib Eye steak cooked teppanyaki-style and the seafood faithfuls had some amazing options too! Special mention to the Ramen with tiger prawns and the pepper crab. There’s a limited choice of sushi and sashimi also, and the ingredients are fresh, bursting with flavour. Leave room for dessert!

Tuna & Crab in Galle is a delightful spot that blends fresh seafood with a cozy ambiance. The tuna and crab dishes are top-notch, showcasing the best of what the coast has to offer. Surprisingly, the highlight of my visit was the French toast. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly balanced in sweetness—it’s a must-try, even if you're primarily there for the seafood. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, Tuna & Crab is definitely worth a visit.

Restaurant
Pedlar's Inn Cafe and Restaurant is a charming dining spot located in the heart of Galle Fort. The establishment boasts a blend of historical ambiance and modern comfort, with its antique wagon entrance, mustard walls, and Irish-pub-style interior. Since its inception in 2004, Pedlar's has been serving up a delectable array of Western dishes including pasta, sandwiches, steaks, fresh salads, and delightful desserts.
I recently visited this restaurant on a Friday and had a great experience. I ordered the spicy seafood burger, while my child had a tomato, egg, and cheese sandwich. The burger was flavorful but not overly spicy—unlike many places I’ve tried in Colombo. It came with a side of French fries and tomato sauce. The sandwich portion was much larger than we expected and was served with French fries, tomato sauce, and a fresh salad. It was delicious and mild in flavor, perfect for kids. We both had iced tea, which was just right for our taste—refreshing and well-balanced. What really stood out was the service. The staff were attentive, polite, and incredibly helpful. Everything was served quickly, and the overall service was excellent. The restaurant had a cozy, calm atmosphere, making it a lovely spot to relax and enjoy a meal. I’ll definitely be visiting again the next time I’m in Galle!

What a great dinner experience in Galle. A large and varied menu with great choices across many cuisines. The setting is quaint and it felt special walking through the varied seating options. We elected a quiet corner and we were not disappointed by the ambiance of the restaurant. Fairy lights, cute fixtures. Our meals were all delicious and full of flavour. I had a burger and it had freshness in the salad as well as a tasty chicken patty. Served with fries it was a perfect change from curries for me. If you are looking for a relaxed meal, in the beautiful old city, you will not be disappointed here.

We visited yesterday and enjoyed it so much that we came back again today! We had the spicy kottu pasta and the Sri Lankan chicken curry — both were absolutely delicious. With the curry, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary king coconut, and we were also given curd with honey to help cool things down after the spicy kottu — a thoughtful touch that made the experience even better. We also tried the papaya juice and the passion fruit with lime juice — both were out-of-this-world delicious! The staff were cheerful, helpful, and fun, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We highly recommend this place. A big thank you to Ranga and Fouzan for making our visit so memorable! For muslim travelers, they have halal options.

We had an amazing experience at Pedlar’s Inn cafe today. We ordered the grilled prawn and the Sri Lankan curry with jumbo prawns, the staff was super friendly and nice, they showed me how to eat the curry properly as I am not a local and they assisted my friend with making her food choice as she did not want something spicy. We got a complimentary king coconut with the curry, and curd with honey after to help with the spice and to emmerse us into the complete experience of eating curry in Sri Lanka, the servers were all cheerful, helpful and fun. They even taught us a few words to say in Sri Lanka like thank you and goodnight!! AMAZING experience, very highly recommended for travelers as well as anyone who wants a chill funn experience. Side note: Pedlar’s Inn Gelato across the street were very helpful when we encountered an issue with our tuktuk and let us sit there an wait until the issue was solved.

Food was good. But didn’t like the beef submarine. They had a nice dish including bread it was amazing. Specially the curry we got for that dish. Also pasta is also nice. Ambience is also beautiful for both day and night. 💯 But the Service was a little late for us than the foreigners I felt. But it was a good restaurant overall

Overall, I had a good experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere is rustic and casual, with a relaxed, informal, and natural vibe. It's an ideal spot for a meal, offering a clear view of the Galle sea. For food, the prawn curry with roast paan was a definite highlight—an absolute win! However, the seafood fried rice was only average. The mocktail was also average and could have had a more elevated flavor. There service is efficient and supportive.

Minute by Tuc Tuc – Galle’s Polished Pit Stop Walked into Minute by Tuc Tuc because it looked like the kind of place that sells you “local flavor” with a Wi-Fi password and a splash of aioli. You know the type — walls painted just right, menu written in a font someone workshopped for three weeks. I got a wrap. Some fusion thing. Western enough to make a tourist feel brave, Eastern enough to keep the Instagram caption authentic. It was good — really — but good in that safe, engineered-for-air-conditioning kind of way. A little crispy, a little spicy, no real commitment either way. This place isn’t trying to blow your mind. It’s trying to give you a decent bite before you wander off to buy overpriced linen shirts or take selfies by the lighthouse. And that’s fine. Not every meal has to be a story. Sometimes it’s just fuel, dressed up in a paper wrap. It’s a decent stop. Not a destination. Don’t expect soul. But if you need a break, and you’re okay paying a little extra for comfort disguised as culture — Minute by Tuc Tuc will do just fine.

The food was nice. I had the isso prawn curry. It was nicely spiced and the prawns tasted fresh. It came with soft white local bread. The view over the bay was lovely as well. I would go again.

Restaurant is having an awesome atmosphere with a stunning sea view. Better to reserve sea view tables before going. Liquor, beer and cocktails available. Average quality food and bit pricey. Customer service is friendly but restaurant is bit busy. Can accommodate a group of 3 to 5 people. Better reserve for group before going. Located at the upstairs of old dutch hospital Galle. Cool vibe. I recommend this place to have a beer with bite dish and chill rather than directly coming for only meal. Beer with chill vibe is superb with sea breeze and view 😍

Don't let the tacky menus or logo put you off. The view is great, the food is great, the atmosphere is great. Aubergine Moju and Prawn Isso especially good. Highly recommended.

Being in the top 10 restaurants in Galle and with a great looking menu, I thought I would take the ride over and try this restaurant. Firstly the location is fantastic, it overlooks the sea with fantastic views and a nice ocean breeze which does make a big difference in my opinion. The staff are fantastic and know their menu inside and out, speak great English and gave us some nice recommendations. The menu is varied so there is something for everyone which makes life easy! All the food was delicious and drinks were great. The pricing for what we had was good, very reasonable compared to other restaurants we had been to in the area. We will definitely visit when next in Galle.

Church Street Social is a restaurant located in Gale Fort, known for its Middle Eastern and South Asian fusion dishes. The restaurant features colonial architecture with patterned tiles, arched windows, whitewashed walls, open corridors, and an inner courtyard. Guests can enjoy indoor seating within classic colonial settings or opt for al fresco dining in the courtyard.
We visited the restaurant close to closing time, and they graciously welcomed us despite the late hour. Drinks: We started with the Tamarind and Melon cocktail, which had a delightful kick. It was so good we wished we had time for another round! Food: Though a prawn-based curry wasn’t on the menu, they kindly prepared one on request. The dish arrived with an array of vegetable curries, sambol, and sides—all served as part of one platter! It offered a bit of everything, making it ideal for someone with a decent appetite, though it was plenty for the two of us to share. The flavors were exceptional, and even the vegetables were as enjoyable as the prawns—a rare win for her preferences! This dish is a must-try. Ambiance & Service: The service was impeccable, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. We’d love to return for another meal. Washroom: 5/5

Amazing food, we both shared the black pork and the food was delicious. Felt so good afterwards too, much lighter than I've ever felt after such a large amount of food! Was a very clean meal with not too much fat. Wasn't the cheapest of places around Galle but worth it in my opinion

Church Street Social is an excellent spot with amazing food and warm, friendly staff. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the quality and generous portions more than make up for it. Every dish was flavorful and satisfying. Definitely coming back again—and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Galle!

I had an incredible dining experience at Church Street Social! The seafood bisque was hands down the best I’ve ever had—the spice level was spot on, adding a wonderful kick without being overwhelming. The Sri Lankan fish curry was a spicy delight! While I loved every bite, I’d recommend it only for those who can handle a fiery dish. The pumpkin salad was a refreshing highlight; it had just the right amount of dressing, letting the flavours shine through without being overpowered. For dessert, the vanilla bean cheesecake stole the show—paired with lime sorbet, it struck the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, making it a memorable end to the meal. The ambiance is clean and modern, with a vibe that invites you to wander around and take it all in. Definitely a place worth visiting!

The vibe in the evening was super amazing, right from the overhanging lights outside, to the walls and flooring and even the powder room had so many stories to tell. The food was superb and the service was top notch, will definitely visit again.

During our recent visit to Church Street Social in Galle, we had an unforgettable dining experience, elevated by exceptional service and a charming atmosphere. I started with the Black Pork Curry, which was bursting with bold, authentic Sri Lankan flavours. The tender pork was perfectly spiced, making it a true standout dish. I paired this with a refreshing Bazaar Breeze cocktail and another creative drink from their impressive menu. My wife opted for the Ceylon Spiced Tuna Pizza, a delightful fusion of crisp crust and vibrant, local flavours. She paired it with the tangy and revitalising Passion Lemonade, which was as refreshing as it was delicious. The desserts were the crowning glory of the evening. We indulged in three exceptional choices: the Wattalapam, a rich and indulgent Sri Lankan classic; the Coconut Cheesecake, offering a delightful tropical twist; and the Caramel Pumpkin Pie, which was perfectly spiced. The Coconut Crème Brûlée, with its delicate caramelised top and creamy, fragrant centre, was a true masterpiece. The staff were absolutely brilliant—attentive, friendly, and genuinely committed to ensuring we had a perfect evening. Their professionalism and warm hospitality made us feel truly welcome and added a special touch to the overall experience. With its incredible food, imaginative drinks, stunning presentation, and impeccable service, Church Street Social is a must-visit for anyone in Galle. We’ll certainly be returning on our next trip!

Stopped in for a couple of cocktails on my way back to the hotel )Fort Printers - excellent). Cocktails here were well prepared and delicious. The restaurant looked really expensive but the cocktails, whilst on the pricey side, were not too costly and they were great.

Our group of 4 stopped in for a drink to cool down. We told the waiter that we just wanted a drink for now and were browsing the menu while we enjoyed our drinks. We ended up having to tell the waiter several times that we were just having a drink for now, and then when we decided we wouldn't be staying for food, he was visibly annoyed with us. Delicious cocktails and cold beer. A pretty extensive menu. Vibes are a bit too uptight for us.

The Heritage Cafe & Bistro is a Colonial-style building with a quaint and cosy setting that specialises in local food. They offer an ample range of seafood dishes and selected Western favourites, including delicious Italian Lavazza coffee.
While waiting for my wife to finish her massage at Lanka Spa, I wandered in here with my toddler - and what a delightful surprise! The staff went above and beyond, even providing a high chair (so rare to find in Sri Lanka!). Their attention to detail is remarkable - though I was disappointed their signature cocoa drinks were unavailable, it just gives me an excuse to return. From the impeccable service to the thoughtful amenities for parents, this place truly stands out. Can't wait to come back and try those cocoa refreshments next time!

Ordered a flat white (delicious) and the strawberry waffle with coconut treacle and peanut brittle - and got 2 hard (over sweet) (almost warm) waffles topped with pineapple, mandarins (!!) and one strawberry cut into tiny pieces, no sign of the coconut treacle and peanut brittle. Very disappointed. I complained and the waiter said we don’t have any peanut brittle (!) - he said sorry and that I only needed to pay for the coffee. It wasn’t my goal to not pay but just have a delicious breakfast. I feel scammed. What a shame. It’s a lovely spot in the shade on the porch and the interior is fab!

Very tasty food with a great atmosphere filled with plants, decorative touches, fans. We shared a pizza which was loaded with fresh veggies, thin and crunchy crust and a chocolate brownie! No complaints here!! We sat on the inside along the edge of the patio - note that smokers are allowed to smoke next to you which can be off putting but the fans blew it away from our face and food thankfully.

We felt that the food was reheated as deep fried thing came not hot. Mediocre at best. I had prawn curry and the rice was half cooked, my wife had the crab that couldn’t finish and worst of all we ordered schnitzel for kids and without asking they put tomato sauce and cheese on top that made it to be remained in untouched. The portions are small but nothing close to gourmet, our bill was 18000 rupees at the end with mo alcohal, the most expensive in entire trip and the worst price/quality ratio … at the end they brought a trip advisors barcode to leave a review. This led me to write this review with this rating as i do not want others to get fooled by reviews. Chat GPT led us here when i asked for kids friendly, we had ants on the table coming out of table mats and the toilet basin is not so pleasant to watch, not recommended.

Our favourite place in Galle! The history behind the walls is fascinating, with a 300yo stone oven that used to serve the whole Fort, and they updated it with incred taste and elegance. The food was very special, we had Oxtail Benedict and Turkish Eggs for breakfast, and they both were delightful and even though at first the portions looked small, they left us full for hours. The traditional iced coffee is a perfectly blended latte at the best price we’ve found :) The ambiance music and the flawless service are a great plus. I’m coming back for the crab kottu which they say is epic.

I had the Butter Chicken Masala and my wife had Spaghetti Bolognaise. Both were very tasty, especially the Masala. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice colonial type building, fortunately we had a table under a ceiling fan, a hot day. Prices were reasonable
