This iconic structure isn't just a church; it's a captivating blend of history, architecture, and serene beauty that leaves a lasting impression. Stepping onto The Ridge, the striking Neo-Gothic architecture of Christ Church immediately draws your eye. Its pale yellow facade, adorned with intricate details and a prominent clock tower, stands tall against the backdrop of the Himalayan peaks. It's a truly picturesque sight, offering fantastic photo opportunities, especially when illuminated at night. Inside, a sense of tranquility washes over you. Christ Church on Mall Road, Shimla, is a beautiful and peaceful place. It is one of the oldest churches in North India, with stunning architecture and colorful glass windows. It looks even more lovely at night when it's lit up. You can sit nearby and enjoy the calm view. From the Old Bus Stand or Shimla Metro, take the Lift near the Cart Road. It will take you directly to Mall Road. From there, it's a short 5-10 minute walk to Christ Church. No vehicles are allowed on Mall Road, so walking is best.
Arunesh T — Google review
Christ Church is not just a landmark of Shimla — it's a living piece of history. Standing tall on The Ridge with its signature yellow walls and neo-Gothic architecture, this beautiful church offers a serene escape from the busy tourist crowd. As soon as you step in, there's a feeling of peace and stillness. The stained-glass windows casting colorful reflections, the old wooden pews, and the soft echo of silence make you want to sit, reflect, or simply admire the beauty around. The church was built in 1857, making it the second oldest church in North India — and every inch of it whispers tales from the colonial era. Whether it's mist rolling in during monsoon, snow falling silently in winter, or the golden sunset during summer — Christ Church looks absolutely magical in every season. Best Parts: Beautiful architecture and photogenic exterior, especially at night when it lights up ✨ Peaceful interiors, perfect for a moment of reflection Right in the heart of The Ridge — easy to reach and surrounded by cafes & local markets Often hosts small prayer services and carol singing around Christmas

Standing tall on the Ridge of Shimla, Christ Church is not just a place of worship — it’s an iconic symbol of the city’s rich colonial history and serene beauty. Built in 1857, it’s the second oldest church in North India, and its Neo-Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, and tall spire transport you to another era. The church is especially stunning at sunrise or after sunset, when it’s beautifully lit and surrounded by the buzz of the Mall Road yet holds a quiet, spiritual aura. Whether you’re inside listening to the calm silence or outside admiring its beauty against the Himalayan backdrop, you’ll feel a deep sense of peace. Perfect for photographers, history lovers, and spiritual seekers alike.

Love the beauty and grandeur of this age old church. Located on The Ridge at Shimla’s iconic Mall Road, this neo‑Gothic landmark (est. 1857) is the second oldest church in North India. The Ridge is located just nearby. Ideal for photo lovers. Iconic and historically significant.

Christ Church in Shimla is a must-visit during the summer months, offering a blend of historical significance and architectural beauty. Built in 1857, this neo-Gothic structure stands prominently on The Ridge, its pale yellow façade and towering spire visible from various parts of the city. The church’s interior is adorned with five exquisite stained glass windows, each symbolizing virtues like Faith, Hope, and Charity, casting colorful patterns as sunlight streams through. Summer, spanning April to June, provides pleasant weather ideal for exploring the church and its surroundings. The cool climate contrasts the heat of the plains, making it a comfortable retreat. Visitors often appreciate the serene ambiance inside the church, a peaceful respite from the bustling Ridge outside. The church is also renowned for its historical pipe organ, one of the largest in the Indian subcontinent, adding to its charm. Mall Road in Shimla is one of the most popular and lively places to visit in the city. It is the heart of Shimla, full of shops, cafés, restaurants, and old colonial-style buildings that give it a unique charm. Walking along the road is a delightful experience, especially in the evening when the place lights up and becomes even more vibrant. The road is closed to vehicles, which makes it perfect for a peaceful stroll without traffic disturbances. You can find a wide variety of shops here, from local handicrafts and woolens to branded stores. There are also plenty of food options, whether you want to try street snacks, bakeries, or sit down for a meal at a restaurant. Cafe
Nestled in the picturesque hills of Shimla, Wake and Bake Cafe has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors. The cafe offers a diverse menu featuring breakfast options, pizza, crepes, waffles, Middle Eastern dishes, salads, kathi rolls, pasta, sandwiches, soups, main dishes and delectable desserts. With its rustic interiors and relaxed ambiance overlooking the vibrant Mall Road from the first floor address with balcony seats providing stunning views of Shimla's beauty.
We went around snack time and got a hot chocolate (8/10). We also got a white sauce pasta (8/10) which was served with 2 big bland garlic toasts (they can be adjusted to be smaller and more flavourful), I chose the option to add mushrooms and chicken to the pasta. We also ordered a homemade iced tea which had a lime touch to it (9/10). We were approached to provide us window seating and the staff looked approachable and all had smiles mostly. The location is prime and the view is one of the best so far as it is right opposite of the town hall and police station (square like area on mall road). It also has a cool roof spot where you can go and enjoy fresh air and views while enjoying your food (as long as it isn’t raining😂) Enjoy! Definitely recommend!

Certainly, here is a review of Wake and Bake Cafe in Shimla: Wake and Bake Cafe, nestled on Shimla's bustling Mall Road, is a beloved institution that perfectly embodies the town's laid-back yet vibrant spirit. It's a go-to spot for both locals and tourists seeking a cozy retreat with excellent food and a view to match. The location is perfect as it's exactly opposite the town-hall, creating perfect setting for a laid back evening from sunset onwards. The cafe's ambiance is undeniably its strong suit. With large windows overlooking the pedestrian-only Mall Road, it offers fantastic people-watching opportunities and a glimpse of Shimla's charming architecture. The interior is warm and inviting, quirky and artistic, with comfortable seating that encourages lingering. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely breakfast, a relaxed lunch, or simply a coffee break with a book. Wake and Bake's menu focuses primarily on Continental and Italian fare, with a strong emphasis on freshly baked goods that live up to the "bake" in its name. Their wood-fired pizzas are a consistent highlight, praised for their thin crusts and fresh toppings. Other popular items include their crepes (both savory and sweet), sandwiches, burgers, and a commendable selection of freshly brewed coffees and teas. Special about their desserts, especially the carrot cakes and pastries, which are often irresistible. The quality of ingredients generally feels fresh, contributing to the overall appeal of the food. Also smoothie & cold coffee is 👍🏼 good . Service is friendly and efficient, though during peak tourist season or busy hours, a short wait for a table is not uncommon. The staff is generally well-versed with the menu and happy to offer recommendations. The cafe can get a bit crowded, but the lively atmosphere usually adds to the charm rather than detracting from it. Key Highlights: Exceptional Ambiance: Cozy, artistic, and offers great views of Mall Road. Delicious Baked Goods: Renowned for fresh cakes, pastries, and wood-fired pizzas. Varied Menu: Good selection of Continental, Italian, and cafe staples. Prime Location: Conveniently located on the Mall Road. Overall, Wake and Bake Cafe is a must-visit when in Shimla. It offers a consistently enjoyable experience, making it a perfect spot to unwind, refuel, and soak in the unique charm of this hill station.

With its large windows offering breathtaking views of the Ridge and Upper Mall Road, this restaurant provides an inviting atmosphere for guests to enjoy their meals.
A very very iconic restaurant, you feel like you are dining inside the pages of history. The food was bomb as well but I genuinely felt this place needs some maintenance. The table cloth was shabby. The chairs were making a noise and the door dint open properly. The apple tea was amazing and we indulged in some Himachal cuisine

A great restaurant with fabulous food, in the Mall road main Chowk, in the form of a cave. Govt run establishment, but they served us with love. We reached there around 9.45pm on 14th Sptember 2025 and were served hot, tasty food. The staff were really warm and friendly. The food was very reasonably priced and flavourful. We really enjoyed the dinner. Thank you and keep up the good service. Will gladly recommend this for visitors and would like to dine again during next visits to Shimla

A lovely mix of heritage, view, and good food! Goofa Ashiana Restaurant is one of the oldest and most iconic restaurants in Shimla, located right on The Ridge, near Mall Road. It’s managed by Himachal Pradesh Tourism (HPTDC) and has been a favorite among both locals and tourists for many years. The restaurant is split into two levels – Goofa (underground) and Ashiana (upper level). The building itself is a beautiful British-era structure with arched windows and wooden interiors. The architecture and design give it a historic charm, and the views from the upper level are amazing — especially at sunset, when you can see the hills and rooftops of Shimla glowing in golden light. The menu offers a mix of Indian, Himachali, Chinese, and Continental food. I tried the Himachali thali, which was delicious and unique. The tomato soup, pakoras, and tandoori trout were also really good. The prices are reasonable considering the location. The staff were polite, though service was a little slow, which is understandable during peak hours. The restaurant is clean, with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It’s a great spot to take a break while walking on Mall Road. What I liked: • Historic and charming building • Great views from the upper floor • Tasty local food • Calm and peaceful ambiance What could be better: • Service can be slow during busy times • Limited drink options • Payment is by cash or card only (no UPI) ⸻ Overall, a must-visit place in Shimla — not just for the food, but also for the experience. It’s peaceful, scenic, and full of old-world charm.

Absolutely Horrible Experience — Stay Away! I have no idea what the hype around Goofa Ashiana Shimla is about — this place was an absolute disaster from start to finish. We were made to sit at a filthy, uncleared table and kept waiting for over 30 minutes. Despite repeatedly requesting someone to clean it, the staff casually told us that if we were in a hurry, we should leave! Imagine hearing that when half the restaurant was empty. After escalating and waiting another 25 painful minutes, a waiter finally showed up — only to refuse to take our full order, saying he’d only note two main dishes. The sheer arrogance and indifference were unbelievable. We were even told to go and explore other options outside the restaurant The entire experience was a mix of rudeness, filth, and zero professionalism. Not just disappointing — it was infuriating. If you don’t want to ruin your day and your mood, please don’t waste a single minute here. Shimla has plenty of better places — this one is definitely not worth your time or energy.

Highlighs: Prime location, deep food colors, few servers, very uncomfortable seats, and restricted items availability. Good Visit for tea, and coffee ... to enjoy the view. But that's it. Nestled in the heart of Shimla, Himachali Rasoi is a culinary gem that celebrates the rich heritage of Himachali cuisine. This unique restaurant stands out as the sole establishment in the city offering traditional dham, a sumptuous feast typically enjoyed during weddings and festivals. With two delightful variations—Kangri and Mandyali—served on alternating days, diners can indulge in an authentic taste of local culture.
Loved the food! Best place for authentic Himachali cuisine. Situated at a street just opposite the town hall, this little place with its wooden sitting and modern vibe is definitely not overhyped. We tried their Kangri dham, it was really good, there were basically types of lentils served with rice and a boondi dessert. Every dish tasted so good. Service was also quite prompt and pleasant.

Himachali Rasoi – A Taste of Authentic Himachal This charming little spot is a true hidden gem on Mall Road, offering some of the most delicious Himachali fare you’ll find anywhere. While locating it through Google Maps can be a bit tricky, the moment you step inside, you’ll know the search was worth it. The wooden seating paired with a subtle modern aesthetic creates a warm, inviting atmosphere despite the compact space. We began with their Siddu — both the sweet and savoury versions — and were thoroughly impressed. The steaming process takes a little time, but that’s the beauty of it; each Siddu is freshly prepared to order, and the result is soft, flavorful perfection. For our main course, we tried the Kangri Dham, an absolute highlight. This traditional feast featured an assortment of lentil dishes served with rice, rounded off with a comforting boondi dessert. Every bite was rich with authentic Himachali flavors, skillfully balancing rustic tradition with refined taste. Service was courteous and warm, with the staff happily sharing insights into the region’s culinary heritage, adding depth to the experience. If you’re looking for an authentic taste of Himachal — from freshly steamed Siddu to the soul-soothing Dham — Himachali Rasoi is an unmissable stop

Being a South Indian, I wanted to try authentic Himachali food in Shimla. After going through multiple reviews and recommendations from friends, I decided to try their thali meals. The staff was very welcoming, cordial, and helpful. They even helped us in choosing the right thali. The food was really good and offered a unique taste. The place might find a bit tricky to find and might even seem small for a restaurant. But everything is neat and clean with a good ambience and lighting. Note: South Indians might find the rice and curries a bit different from what we’re used to, but it’s definitely worth a try for the experience.

Tried the Himachali thali at Himachali Rasoi in Shimla. The food tasted fresh with a noticeable clove flavor. There are two options: half (₹233) and full (₹333). The full thali includes unlimited refills, but the half doesn’t, and the portion felt a bit small for the price. Sharing isn’t allowed. Overall, slightly pricey but the taste and quality were really good.”
