Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge is a remarkable suspension bridge that connects Kobe City and Awaji Island, spanning the scenic Akashi Strait. It holds the distinction of being one of the world's longest suspension bridges, offering tours to its exhibition center and top. Opened in 1998, it was once the longest suspension bridge globally at 3,911m.
I have visited Akashi Kaikyo Bridge on multiple occasions. I vividly recall the thrill I experienced during my initial crossing through the glass platform situated underneath the bridge. From this vantage point, we were able to observe the sea below, with boats passing directly underneath. Additionally, we witnessed engineers conducting their inspection shifts, driving through the lower stage of the bridge. The experience was truly remarkable.

The Akashi Kaikyō Bridge also called the Pearl Bridge, is one of Japan’s greatest engineering marvels. It Connects Kobe (Honshu) with Awaji Island, spanning the Akashi Strait in Hyōgo Prefecture. the Total length 3,911 meters (3.9 km). The main span is 1,991 meters, making it the longest suspension bridge span in the world (a record it still holds). Height: Bridge towers rise 283 meters above sea level. Opened: April 5, 1998. Before the bridge, ferries carried cars across the Akashi Strait — a dangerous waterway with strong currents and storms. In 1955, two ferries sank in a typhoon, killing 168 children and adults. This tragedy pushed Japan to build a safer permanent crossing. Construction took 10 years (1988–1998) and used advanced earthquake- and typhoon-resistant technology. The 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake struck during construction, shifting the towers apart by 1 meter — engineers adjusted, and the bridge was completed successfully.

Very impressive. Nice to go up and see the landscape. During the evening it lights up multiple colors like a rainbow. I am so happy that I visited there.

A very interesting tour of this impressive bridge. The tours are run by former engineers and crew of the design and build of the bridge so they are very knowledgeable. Your trip will start with an orientation and safety briefing. All items you will bring with must be secured by lanyards to you. They will provide you with everything that you will need before heading out on the tour. Once your orientation is completed, you will head down to the bridge construction exhibition on the main floor. Following your tour of the exhibitions you will make your way out to the bridge promenade. From the promenade you will enter into the maintenance area beneath the traffic surface. The walk from the promenade to the support tower is approximately 1.4kms. Once you arrive at the support tower, you will head up by way of a maintenance elevator built into the core of the tower (from floor 17 to floor 98). Making your way through the support tower core and onto the observation deck on top of the tower will require moderate mobility. They do confirm that you will be able to navigate this portion of the tour before allowing you to proceed during the safety briefing. The views from the observation area on top of the tower is amazing to say the least. The view is well worth all the work to get up there and well worth the cost of the ticket.

Izanagi Shrine, located on Awaji Island, is a prominent traditional place of worship that honors the Shinto spirits Izanagi and Izanami. The shrine enshrines Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto, the couple gods of Japan's creation. Visitors can explore the 'Meoto Okusu' in the precincts of the shrine, known for its association with marriage harmony and good match fulfillment.
One of the oldest shrine in japan. There’s also a delicious choco vanilla ice cream at the souvenir shop when i dropped by while cycling the awaji island. Be sure to visit and pay respect. Definitely recommended to visit on any season.

Such a fabulous place to visit on Awaji Island! Incredibly picturesque, with pond, flowering plants, multiple structures, tea ceremony. Tickets for tea ceremony. Large grounds. 2nd parking lot across the street. Kakurai kiosk with original tea ceremony ceramic work (near tea ceremony). Cafes across the street, beach 5 minutes away.

My friend said its the oldest temple in Japan and its belong to the caesar family. There is a very old japanese cedar tree that age over 900 years. Consist of many tree and now only left 2 trees. The shrine itself age almost 1500 years. Beside the history itself there is nothing to see here.

Lookouts
Awaji Hanasajiki is a breathtaking park located on Awaji Island, celebrated for its stunning seasonal floral displays and panoramic views. Spanning 15 hectares and perched at an elevation of about 298 meters, this vibrant garden showcases a kaleidoscope of flowers throughout the year. Visitors can revel in the beauty of tulips and daffodils in spring, sunflowers and cosmos during summer, followed by autumn's rich salvia hues.
The scenery is still beautiful even though there weren't a lot of blooming flowers when we visited. I also love how the paddy/ flower art was designed by children! It's free admission but you can patronise the souvenir shop and purchase local specialties. P.s. the public toilets here were spotless.
YJ K — Google review
The view here is beautiful, with flower fields spread across a hill overlooking the sea and the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the distance. It is not a full sea of blooms and not large in scale, but it has its own charm. I visited in late July and literally melted walking under the scorching sun, even with an umbrella. Parking costs 200 yen, and admission is free. There is also a restaurant and a souvenir shop selling Awaji produce and local specialties.
Leh P — Google review
After a quick stop at the Aikashi-Kaikyo Bridge, we decided to visit this flower park. The park was well-maintained and wonderfully peaceful. The flowers were beautiful. We spent an hour in the park. Parking was cheap (200 yen) and the restrooms were very clean. The park itself wasn't expensive, but the bridge toll made it a short and expensive visit (2,410 yen times 2).
Yuna L — Google review
I love the view of this place. Beautiful scenery and they have a restaurant and museum located in this place! The park is huge and the view is spectacular! I have seen lots of tourists coming by bus. And you need a car to get here but the entrance is free!

Lovely place to visit. Beautifully kept flower gardens, easy to park and relaxing place to walk around and just enjoy the view and the wonderful atmsphere. The cafe has some nice choices of food and the omiyage shop can tempt you with some of my favourite onion soup packs and other nice offerings.

Nature & Parks
Awaji Farm Park England Hill is a delightful family-friendly destination that promises an action-packed day filled with fun and adventure. This charming park features a mini zoo where you can meet adorable koalas, alongside other fascinating animals like wallabies. Beyond the animal encounters, visitors can engage in various activities such as go-kart racing and leisurely swan boat rides on the serene pond.
Horseback riding is very inexpensive and the hospitality of the employees is excellent. The hospitality of the employees is high. We were very satisfied with the vegetable harvesting experience.

My highlight...... they had a baby Koala and Kapibara (enormous guinea pig ;)
Nadja C — Google review
Although there are not many animals, I’m happy to see that all the animals are well taken care of! All the animals have clean and large enclosures (especially the rabbits and guinea pigs). I’m sure the staff there are passionate about taking care of the animals, and that makes me really happy. The flowers are also very beautiful, especially the sea of sunflowers. I had a good time!
Jasmine L — Google review
Lovely place! We only spent around 2 hours but you should definitely dedicate a whole day and see everything! Even though it was a weekend, it was not crowded at all! We were able to ride the horse with no waiting time! Although it's a very short lap. It's very family and child friendly.

A lovely place for a whole day visit with kids 💕 It's vast and mostly open - too hot for summer and ideal from Autumn to Spring. Under roof: workshops, Koala, rabbits and guinea pigs, green house with 🦎🐢🌴, shuttle train, food. Good for walking, running, playing outside 🏃‍♀️. Perfect place for special occasions. A bit of everything everywhere: animals 🐎 🐑 🐹 🐇 🐨 🦘 🐢 🦎 and flowers here and there, beautiful views and scenery, workshops: making bread, candles, woolen toys; harvesting 🍓🍅🍆🥔, Swan boats 🦢 (roof protects from sun/ rain), go-karts 🚘 for 2 people (140cm and above can drive themselves, below 140 are passengers only), other amusement activities for little ones and adults; food, drink vending machins, toilets everywhere. Connecting cute shuttle train. The prices are reasonable as it goes to taking care of animals and a vast territory, you can just pick up and pay for what you are interested the most 👍.

Nijigen no Mori, located on Awaji Island, offers an immersive anime theme park experience that combines popular series like Naruto and Boruto with the grandeur of the Godzilla franchise. The Naruto and Boruto area provides interactive ninja-themed activities for fans to test their skills in a world reminiscent of the anime. A major highlight is the Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji, catering to enthusiasts of the iconic monster.
Staff were super friendly and helpful. Lots of gift shops with all sorts of souvenirs. Godzilla, Zipline, and museum were particularly fun and had small lines.

Holy Hannah was this place an expensive tourist trap!!! Okay, the premise is cool with the themes (Dragon Quest, Godzilla, Crayon Shinchan, Monster Hunter, Demon Slayer, and Naruto), but everything was super expensive (even compared to the US). Our food alone in the Dragon Quest-themed pub was around $100 (Disney prices)! In the end, with the pricing of each park, we skipped the attractions fully and decided to drive back to Kobe and enjoy our time there. At least parking was free!

Went here for the first time only did the dragon quest which was very fun but we could not complete since the last bit was a 90min wait time. It’s said to last 2 hours but including the 90min wait it’s about 3:30 which no one told anyone. The attractions looked very fun but everything is very over priced. Would be a good place for a special occasion but not somewhere you can go regularly. The cafe is so overpriced, the food looks so much smaller than what it shows on the menu and the cafe also was overpriced considering the amount of food you get. Nice area and is a fun day out.
Jude — Google review
Anime, game, and kaijyu fan will not regret visiting this place. However, it is very costly since each attractions are aeparate fee from 4,500 to 13,000 yen per person. Although expensive, you will be enteryained for at least 2 hours for each attraction, and there are some sense of accomplishment too. Its a nice place to visit to say 'been there, done that'.
Sachiko H — Google review
I love monster hunter, found Monster hunter: the field by chance and absolutely loved the experience. A short but very fun romp around the park followed by an arcadey fight against a monster. The food was also quite nice as well. I got the nergigante burger Would’ve done the godzilla ride if we had time

It is such a beautiful theme park, however it took a bit of an effort to travel using public transport. If you have a spare day in Kansai, make an effort to visit, much more peaceful than the other popular theme parks. Just heads up, some parts need a bit of fitness level to finish. My highlight is definitely the Godzilla zipline

Japanese Restaurant “AWAMI” offers a delightful dining experience with carefully prepared and seasoned local ingredients. (Translated by Google) I went to Awami Japanese Restaurant, a Japanese restaurant on the 3rd floor of the Grand Nikko Hotel on Awaji Island. Apparently they have shirasu bowl for a limited time now, so I went there to try it. This time I ordered the Shirasu Gozen. In addition to whitebait, it also comes with sea bream sashimi and halfbeak sashimi. First up is hijiki. This tastes like it's handmade, not something you buy at a delicatessen store. Next came the gozen, which included conger eel tempura🍤 and boiled sea bream, and the seasoning was very good🆗 Shirasudon is also eaten with ponzu sauce, but I also add grated yam to give it a different taste. There is quite a lot of whitebait in it and it is very filling. It was a great place to sit with a view of the ocean, and the atmosphere was great. Thank you for the meal! The restaurant offers a variety of dishes that make full use of the island's bounty, including Awaji beef, octopus from Awaji Island, and Ebisu Mochi Pork, and is popular with tourists and locals alike. One of the popular dishes is the Tako Kara Udon, a dish of deep-fried octopus from Awaji Island topped on udon noodles, with the chewy texture of the octopus and the flavor of the broth perfectly matched. The Boiled Conger Eel Bowl is a softly stewed conger eel topped with a sweet sauce, which goes perfectly with rice. The Oasis Burger is a hearty burger filled with thick fried onions and sweet and spicy meat, and is very satisfying to eat. The restaurant is spacious, with an open space overlooking the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It is also suitable for families and groups, and you can enjoy a leisurely meal. Our family had an amazing time at Hello Kitty Smile, Awaji Island! My wife, our two kids, and I truly enjoyed the variety of activities available—everything was fun, interactive, and perfectly suited for children. Parents can also participate and help their kids complete tasks, making it a great bonding experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ensuring that visitors had the best experience. The place itself is beautifully designed, making it a dream destination for Hello Kitty fans! The only thing that could be improved is the food options to better cater to Muslim visitors. It would be great to see more halal-friendly choices in the future. Overall, it was a fantastic visit, and we highly recommend it to families looking for a fun and memorable experience!

We did the Hello Kitty Smile and Apple House experiences because the wife is a huge Sanrio fan. Buying tickets in advance, we thought we would breeze though - proved not to be the case. Plenty of parking, but you may have to walk (8 min for us). There were no separate cues for those who prepaid versus those still requiring payment which was honestly annoying and opposite of every other site/activity we took part in during our stay in Kansai. Inside was pretty awesome, but again the queuing was pretty bad and was quite stuffy. The unfortunate part was due to this, we were unable to take pictures with the hime Hello Kitty. Moving on to the Apple House, it seemed more coordinated and quick overall. Honestly, it's the epitome of a tourist trap and something to do if you want to burn time.

So cute! I wish I had more time to explore, but the bit that I did see was so cute! Meeting hello kitty was also fun! She was so kind and expressive! Our service was also exemplary! We ate at the cafe there and our waiter was so kind and helpful. They even helped us and made sure we got at the bus safely. I would definitely come back again.

Interesting park to visit if you fancy Hello Kitty. Many photo spots to take photos with various Hello Kitty props. Kids will be interested in completing the quiz and puzzles in the handbook provided when entering the park.

One of the places for girls and women alike... If you are a huge hello kitty fan. Do visit, there are things to see and photos to be taken. One of the best thing here is the photo taking session with the hello kitty which wasn't that long queue. About 5 minutes or so. The only bad part is the shuttle busses and public bus are limited here. There is also a restaurant at the side of the museum. I find the food 7/10 for my taste.. not the best but it's fine

The ticket pricing is high, considering what you are paying for. The only offerings inside are rhinestones displays, kitty wall art, mirrors, and digital art. Hello Kitty does make an appearance, which is a plus! As an adult and a fan, I was underwhelmed. However, my 5 year old daughter was thrilled by the experience. You can get a parent and child ticket for 3,000. I personally feel that it’s a money trap! It’s a place to buy overly priced food and ridiculously priced Hello Kitty merchandise.

Izakaya restaurant
Izumoan is a simple dining room that offers udon noodles served with dipping soups and toppings like deep-fried onions. The specialty dish is the deep-fried onion in broth, which is a popular choice among visitors. The onions used are grown only on Awaji island, and the broth is described as both sweet and savory, making it perfect for a day of fishing. Despite the wait time, many find the experience well worth it and highly recommend this place to others.
dishes built around awaji famous onions! different taste from the usual tonkotsu ramen and such. popular among the locals as well.

So special! They really elevate the onion and it is undoubtedly the star of the meal. It's wonderfully crispy, tasty, and slightly sweet (Awaji onions are not pungent at all). There was a bit of a wait but it will be worth it. Dont forget to write your name on the paper.

Recommended by locals from Awaji. This place is so tasty and offers a specialty dish called 玉ねぎつけ麺 (tamanegi tsukemen), which is onion and dipping noodles. Did not think a whole onion would taste so good I was surprised! Also only costed 1000円 ! It’s 10/10 🧅 and would eat again!

The food was amazing but the service was very lacking. I’m not sure whether it was because we were foreigners or not but the staff was very curt with us to the point of being rude. They didn’t explain the right way of enjoying the dishes neither (e.g. Onion tsukemen) although they explained it to all the other customers. It is a shame for the food but not sure I would return again.

Forget Sushi, forget ramen. This is easily the BEST food I've had in all my travels to Japan. Their onion soup dish is fantastic! This enters my top 10 best foods ever, it's really that good. Big surprise cause this place was just close to the hotel I was staying at and picked at random.

The specialty dish here is a deep fried onion in broth that you dip udon noodles in. The is usually a wait. We waited for about 40min. But it was well worth it. Everyone orders the same thing. The onions are grown only on Awaji island. Broth is sweat yet savory. Really hit the spot on a brisk day of fishing. Would definitely come back again and recommend this place.

Gempei is a sushi and sashimi restaurant that offers a variety of seafood dishes paired with sake and wine. Situated in a sleek, contemporary setting with captivating views of the harbor, this establishment provides an elegant and opulent atmosphere. The staff members are polite and accommodating, ensuring an enjoyable dining experience. The food is delicious, showcasing fresh ingredients and expertly prepared meals.
We visited Gempei very last minute, tried our luck of walking in! We arrived at the restaurant by 6:30pm, and they were happy to serve us a counter seat. Enjoy watching the chef preparing each piece of sushi while the background was a nice view of the port. We had a very good time here and their sushi was delicious! The chef tried his best to explain the sushi to us and willing to accommodate our requests! I like how they put a pinch of salt on the fish instead of soy sauce. It really enhanced the fish flavor! Highly recommend to add the price difference of having Awaji Uni, instead of Hokkaido! IT IS ONE OF THE BEST UNI I’VE EVER HAVE!
