Richmond

Richmond is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and the site of Vancouver International Airport. Known for its Asian influences, it’s home to the International Buddhist Temple, an elaborate complex resembling Beijing’s Forbidden City. Asian eateries and shops cluster in the Golden Village district. In the village of Steveston, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery has interactive exhibits on the local salmon-canning tradition.

Steveston, located in Richmond within Metro Vancouver, is a charming historic neighborhood with a rich heritage dating back to the 1880s. Situated on the southwest tip of Lulu Island, this village served as a significant port and salmon canning center at the mouth of the Fraser River's South Arm. The area's early 1900s architectural style has made it a popular filming location and tourist destination.

Fun & Games
The Richmond Olympic Oval, located in Richmond, British Columbia, is a versatile facility that was originally built for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It has since transformed into a hub for sports and fitness activities. Visitors can partake in various drop-in activities such as basketball, table tennis, and skating or join pre-booked group fitness sessions. The venue also features the Richmond Olympic Experience, an interactive exhibit showcasing Olympic memorabilia and history.
The Richmond Olympic Oval is a fantastic recreational spot for nearby residents, especially during the hot summer days. It's a great place for kids to enjoy various activities like table tennis, ice skating, rock climbing, and basketball. The Day Pass is very affordable at just $20, and the air quality inside is excellent thanks to the high dome and advanced ventilation system. Unlike other rock climbing gyms we've visited, which often have unpleasant odors, the air here is fresh and clean. During the summer, they offer a Family Skating session every Sunday for just $10, making it a perfect family activity. It's an ideal place for local residents to beat the heat and engage in fitness activities with their children.

The Richmond Olympic Oval is a complete money grab when it comes to memberships. The open gym for basketball is ridiculously overpriced compared to any other community facility in Metro Vancouver. On top of that, their billing practices are predatory. If you don’t cancel days before the end of your cycle, they trap you into paying for the entire next month. I cancelled in August, yet they still forced me to pay for September and even October, which is outrageous. To make matters worse, they only allow cancellations in person — no phone, no email, no online option. It’s clearly a deliberate obstacle. And when you do show up, they don’t even ask for proper ID, so their excuse about “not knowing who they’re talking to” is laughable. For a publicly funded facility, this kind of behavior is disgraceful. The Oval should be focused on serving the community, not running shady billing schemes like a private gym. Consider yourself warned.

The Fitness Center would be out of business in less than a year if it wasn't heavily subsidized by tax payers. I've genuinely never seen a place with so much random nuts a bolts, pieces of the racks and broken mirror constantly just laying on the ground. All the while hundreds of thousands has been spent on overly complicated cardio equipment with feature I've never seen anyone use, novelty equipment like the rope machine/body fat scanner, the new Precor machines that are mostly broken and is almost a downgrade from the previous machines. The Oval as a whole is decent place for the community but the Fitness center is extremely mismanaged and insult to tax payers plus a liability due the gross negligence. To be clear the issue seems to be the management and not the other employees. Edit 2023-12-28 for Oval response: Can you elaborate on which part of my review is misinformation. I don't believe you could provide any type of maintenance record showing the gym equipment has been maintained properly, but I can assure you that people can walk into the Oval any time and find broken pieces of equipment. The broken mirror for example took multiple months to fix and you just let pieces of it fall off during that entire time. Any member can attest to that. The PDF you linked shows $16,844,247 in expenses, $17,571,433 revenue and $8,048,501 Memberships, admissions and programs. I'd also encourage you to show the financial figures of the fitness center compared to any of the other community centers. I do agree that you certainly have a diverse amount of poorly maintained and selected equipment. For example the rope machine originally mentioned you saw that no one used it so you got another one. Edit 2024-08-07 : I happy to announce that after this becoming the most popular review backed with plenty of evidence the Oval has managed to do a complete 360. They’ve once again ignored what everyone was asking for and spent thousands only to deliver pennies on the dollars for all the members and Richmond citizens that fund them. What the Oval has done: - Bought some of the most expensive bars and rack available but somehow said there wasn’t budget to fix the Back Extension that had one broken plastic part. - Somehow managed to choose the smallest J-Cups available that isn’t even lined properly. Some of them already has a bar shaped grove filed out of it - Brought back the landmine attachment that was destroying the bars. Only to have people use the new Eleiko bars on it. Every other gym in the world uses beater bars for it but the Oval is so flush with cash that they use brand new thousand dollar bars. - Had rack on top of a accessibility ramp only to put another rack on top of the ramp with a bar sticking half way over it. - Had a bench hanging over the lip of the floor only to put another bench hanging over lip of the floor. Some ended up with 50% less dedicated flat benches after spending all this money. - Bought a bunch of Technogym stuff only for 3/4 of the pieces to be break. The Smith machine randomly has a cable and has been broken for more than a month. - Randomly put in a section of turf but refused actually fix all the tiles floor that bubbled up and is a tripping hazard. What the Oval hasn’t done: - Lube up the cable machines, you can hear and feel the entire guide rod being pulled up with the weights. - Fix machines in a timely manner. Most machines takes a month to fix even the most basic part. The Hammer Strength seated calf raise had a bolt missing a nut and it took 4 days for someone to put it back on. - Buy decent equipment(from cable attachment to machines) suited to what the members want. To summarize: People who didn't care about the bars could have had membership fee not increased for a while. For the people who do care about the bars they’ll be bent with knurls filed off within a year like the old bars. Truly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory this is the true Oval Experience. Also most of the buttons don't work on 2/3 Assault bikes and 2/3 Stair masters.

After 2 years of consistently working out at the fitness centre as a continuous member, I feel compelled to voice my frustration about the number of machines/pieces of equipment that are non-functional at essentially any given time. Last week, at least 5 popular machines were down. And I realize such machines deteriorate over time, but if they are fixable, surely many of them can be fixed much faster than is typically the case here. Maintenance workers have told me essentially all the equipment is owned by the Oval/City, so I fail to see why onsite employees, including fitness centre staff, cannot fix things—surely if they are trained to do so, there would no liability issues. This would really speed up the fixing process. As a big fan of cable machines, I find it difficult to understand why the competent and experienced fitness centre staff can’t replace a cable in a matter of hours (rather than the current weeks it generally takes). -signed, There are a lot of great things about this place, but it may be time to look elsewhere for my fitness needs.

$80 membership. Only 1 bandaid available upstairs. Front desk worker upstairs did nothing and just said we only had 1 bandaid. Didn’t try to get another one or didn’t tell me where I can get one in the facility. Edit: also no dedicated parking spots for members. Overpacked parking due to events.

This review is of the Oval as a tourist destination, and not based on any of the businesses within. There is lots to discover here; the outdoors has many places to sit and watch the water (or airplanes flying overhead, as it is near the airport), the architecture is magnificent, and there are lots of stories being told by the surrounding artwork. There are free, outdoor places to play beach volleyball, chess, ping pong, and others, and a beautiful garden. There is a dog fountain outside of the parkade that was not functioning during my visit.

A great athletic facility. They have rinks, courts, nets, climbing wall and a gym. Outdoor beach volleyball in summer. Membership is reasonable and comes with a lot of extras including free classes. I cooked a bunch of people when playing pickup basketball. Good place to watch top talent BC hs basketball

A great athletic facility. They have rinks, courts, nets, climbing wall and a gym. Outdoor beach volleyball in summer. Membership is reasonable and comes with a lot of extras including free classes. For parents they do have childcare. Multiple bike racks allow easy parking. They have several hundred stalls under the building for cars though it is pay. Transit is minimal but not a long walk from major bus lines or the Canada line.

Night market
The Richmond Night Market is a must-visit for an incredible food experience. Established in 2000, it has become one of the largest North American night market festivals. The market offers a wide variety of innovative, Asian-inspired fusion foods that are perfect for capturing jaw-dropping Instagram shots.
Honestly, I always enjoy RNM. Been going for years and it's really what you make of it. Entrance is $5, parking is massive and FREE, the food can be a bit pricey - but the variety is there and it's food I wouldn't have normally nor regularly. You go to try new things and just have fun with the food pallet. Go with a sociable/curious group of friends or partner, go have a good time, try some interesting food, buy some cute trinkets and take some cute photos. Buen Provecho! :) *Bring cash - they have multiple ATMS... but save yourself the fee*

Would I call it an overpriced tourist attraction? Yes. But if you can look past the cost, it’s a fun experience. There are plenty of food stalls, and while not everything is worth trying, you can always check reviews to see what stands out. It’s more enjoyable to go with a group so you can try more items. Personally, my favorites were the Lamb Noodles from Chef James Co, the Pork Dumplings from Momo's, and the Mango Paradise from Taco Nori Sushi Tacos. The Coconut in a Cup from One Coconut was just okay. As for the Deep-Fried Squid from Squid Feast and the Spot Prawns from Ocean Sweets, BBQ Squid Mix from Lao Er BBQ Squid, they tasted mid. Beyond food, they also have shops and games. I don’t think it’s worth spending money outside of food, but it’s worth a look.

This was my first time at the Richmond Night Market, and it was such a fun experience! I already expected the food to be pricey, so definitely bring plenty of cash. There’s a huge variety of food—mostly Asian cuisine, but we also found a great Mexican food stand. Tons of carnival-style games to try too! Admission is $7 CAD per person, or you can get a fast pass for $35 that covers 5 people. If you don’t have a group for the fast pass, I’d recommend going early to avoid the long lines. They even have a zip line, although it wasn’t open during our visit. Overall, a lively place to eat, play, and explore!

food was really good, much better than expected! stinky tofu was authentic, tasted almost similar to the ones in changsha. fried squid was amazing, so tender and crispy, the people really gave a lot for the size small portion. mango sticky rice was also my favourite! however, the price is just way too high, these would normally be sold at a third/half the price. on top of that, admission fee is pricey, which makes you want to spend more in the night market to get your money’s worth… fun experience but probably wouldn’t go back because of the prices!!
Grace — Google review
Weapons and family time? No thank you. You have to pay to get in, and once you’re in you’re faced with overpriced street food, overpriced carnival games, cash-only sales AND high caliber weapons sold in the open, right in the middle of the park. There is something really strange about a market (night or day) that promotes friendly family time with children games and arcades and at the same time allows the sale of assault rifles and semi-automatic guns under a tent right in the middle of everything. We were left wondering what audience is this park really trying to attract? They have a zip line (overpriced as everything else on the park) which at least makes it “fun” for kids to watch and young adults to enjoy, and then they have bouncy houses literally aimed at kids, and they also have carnival games (also overpriced) which you may argue are for all ages, so that’s fine, but who are the high caliber weapon sales for? Are those also cash-only? I wouldn’t know because it made us so uncomfortable, we left in less than an hour. Sketchy place. Management really needs to decide what image they want to have and what audience they’re trying to reach. You can’t attract families and friends enjoying some wholesome time together or young couples on a date, and at the same time attract those who are in the market for a high-caliber weapon sold at night potentially on the down-low in a makeshift market by an industrial zone. That’s just weird.

I went to the Richmond Night Market for the first time (I am from US) and it was a great experience!! It is way better than night markets in the states. The only long line was to get inside. Once we were in, we waited no longer than 5 minutes in a line and the food came out really quick! It’s so much cheaper than US food festivals as well so we were able to try a bunch of different things for a good price. I would 100% come again. It was well worth the drive.

I’m sad it took me 3 trips to Vancouver to finally go to the Richmond Night Market. It was quite a long line to get in at 1900, but it only helped my appetite. We got a free lobster hat upon entrance which delighted my niece. We ate at several different stalls. My favorite was the toasted mochi and the mango sticky rice!
Nichelle S — Google review
A long time has passed since I last visited the Richmond Night Market. I was impressed by the significant improvements since my last visit a few years ago. The quality of the products has improved, and there are now more games and bigger food stands. There are even activities for kids, such as a bounce castle and a zipline. Among all the food, the Korean BBQ chicken skewers stood out. They came in four flavors, and I tried two of them: a sweet and savory sauce and a galbi flavor. It was a shame they were sold out the second time I visited, and I couldn't get more. I also remember the Dubai chocolate-covered strawberry cups from the dessert section. I wish this was a menu item at a cafe near me! The market runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m., from May through October. The lines get incredibly long, so you must buy a Zoom Pass! The regular admission is $4.75, while the Zoom Pass costs $28.00 for six entries. Since it's unlikely you'll go six times alone, you can offer to share the pass with friends, family, or even other couples or families in line. They'll likely be happy to join you and get through the express lane without the long wait.

Historical place museum
Museums
Nestled in the charming village of Steveston along the Fraser River, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site is a captivating glimpse into Pacific Canada's rich maritime history. Originally built in the late 19th century, this salmon cannery has been transformed into an engaging museum that offers guided tours and fascinating exhibits about life in the West Coast fishing industry. Visitors can immerse themselves in stories from yesteryear while enjoying scenic views and delicious fish and chips right on the wharf.
Interesting Parks Canada venue, a historic fishing cannery. The assembly line of machines for canning fish was both intriguing and scary! This must have been a noisy and metallic environment during operations. If we would apply this type of industrial automation innovation to creating other types of finished goods rather than shipping off raw resources to other countries and then buying back their finished goods at a premium, we would be more self sufficient and self reliable. As my father would say, pennywise pound foolish.

I was very surprised how beautiful and informative this museum is. I definitely recommend it for old and young people. The story behind, the history of fishing and canning.

I came to Steveston to window shop and enjoy the waterfront view and saw a sign saying the museum was free admission. I decided to check it out. I didn't have high expectations so I was pleasantly surprised at how well-done the exhibits were. The displays were catchy and very informative. It took me back in time! It was definitely worth the visit!

My kids initially didn't have much interests about this place when they heard it was an old cannery. After they went in and started exploring and work on some of the Explore activities, they didn't want to leave. It's also great that it's free during the summer. It was a first fishery cannery experience for me as well. Very interesting to learn the past.

I really enjoyed my visit, I was so lucky because it was free but it totally worth the full price… if you are close by and you really enjoyed history this place is for you… full of history with a touch of nostalgia.

Sights & Landmarks
The International Buddhist Temple, also known as the Guan-Yin Temple, is a traditional Chinese imperial-style temple located in the outskirts of British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1981 by the International Buddhist Society, this temple has grown with the support of volunteers and donors. The founder, Guan Cheng, played a significant role in its establishment. Visitors can explore one of the largest Buddhist temples in North America and immerse themselves in its serene garden and lake.
Such an amazing and peaceful place to visit. The temple grounds are beautifully designed, with stunning architecture, serene ponds, and lovely gardens. Everything is very well maintained. When we went, it was unfortunately rainy, but there were still other visitors, which shows how special this place is. A great spot for quiet reflection and to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, rain or shine.

★★★★★ An absolutely magical and serene visit. The International Buddhist Temple is a true gem in Richmond. The architecture, inspired by the Forbidden City, is breathtaking and feels incredibly authentic. The gardens are a peaceful haven with their pond, bridges, and rock sculptures. It's the perfect place to find tranquility and reflect. I loved the peaceful atmosphere and the beauty of the interior, especially the great Buddha statue. The volunteers are so kind, and you can see the care in every single detail of the place. First time visiting a Buddhist Temple. It was amazing, majestic, rich, and peaceful all at the same time. Incredible work behind the scenes to maintain such a wonderful place in very tidy and organized conditions. I loved the calm and the sense of gratitude and respect that is everywhere. The quotes on the screens and signage are so true, and they make you think the meaning of life. Great experience that I highly recommend to everyone, even if not religious. Kudos to the organizers and the volunteers taking care of this wonderful place. You all did a fantastic job for everyone to enjoy. And it's FREE!! Thank you. 👏 👏🙏🙏🏼

Chinese restaurant
HK BBQ Master is a casual spot that serves Chinese BBQ and side dishes in a cozy setting, with the option for take-out. Located beneath the Real Canadian Superstore, it's known for its fragrant roast pork and honey-glazed char siu. Featured in David Chang's Netflix series, the unassuming Hong Kong-style barbecue shop has gained attention for its delicious offerings. The venue is also praised for its crispy roasted pork belly and succulent soya sauce chicken.
We had heard good things about this place for long time but we had never been able to make it the last call time. Finally, we were so excited that we got to try this! We arrived a bit earlier than dinner hours around 5 pm ish. I saw a long time and rushed to join, but actually silly me, that line was for take out! We were lucky we could have a table for two right away without any wait. BBQ meats did not disappoint, as delicious as we heard and expected. We had roasted pork and chicken. Surprisingly, their daily soup was very flavourful as well. I guessed they had lots of bones to use up. It was on the slightly oily side but I did not mind about it too much. BBQ meats on rice 🍚 was the way to go for the first time, better if you have someone with share different meats with. Perhaps ordering meat on rice is not the best deal, compared with ordering meats alone, and that might explain why the takeout line is so long. Their HK coffee and milk tea mix was tasty as well. We have already come back for a few times before I finally get the chance to write this review!
Joey L — Google review
Do not trust their opening hours! It says they are open till 8pm, but that's definitely not true. They don't prepare enough meat and they will close early. Called them at 5pm they already sold out of BBQ duck. We got to the restaurant at around 6pm and they only had BBQ pork and the crispy pork left. We had to wait for a table of 4, and while we were waiting the waitress came to tell us they're going to sell out soon. Luckily she asked for our order and reserved the meat rice plate for us so that we wouldn't have come and waited for nothing. However because she asked for our order early, they already cut the meat and assembled the rice plate before we even got our table. By the time we sat down and started eating, the meat was cold so it wasn't good anymore. On top of that, while we were still eating they started mopping the floor and getting on the counters to wipe the walls. They use lots of cleaning chemicals which is good I guess, but the whole restaurant filled with the scent of cleaner which made the food taste even worse. The running out of meat early doesn't only affect tourists, it also affects a lot of locals. While we were in the restaurant, at least 30 more people tried to come buy food, but were turned away. If you really want to come, come at lunch time so that they have everything stocked and aren't rushing to mop and clean even though their official closing time is still 2 hours away. For HK BBQ, they are on the pricey side for rice plates. You can go to the other food courts to get cheaper, similar quality HK BBQ meats.

Ordered the soy chicken, char siu pork, and roasted pork combo over rice. The roasted pork was phenomenal. The soy chicken was tender and flavorful, but watch out for bone fragments. The char siu was good, but I got a pretty lean piece so a little dry. Though the line is long, their system is set up pretty efficiently, with a line for dine-in, take out, and pre-order pickup. When the line gets long, and attendant comes out to take your order in advance, so it's more or less ready by the time you get to the front to pay. Overall, I really like this place.

Delicious BBQ! The portion is well served and price is good, super worth it. I wanted to come to this place long time ago and finally made it. It didn't dissapoint, I had high expectations since I heard good things about this place, plus Seth Rogen did a video talking about this Vancouver food gem some time ago, so it's really popular. There is even complementary tea. Staff super fast and friendly. I went on a holiday around 1pm last month (thanksgiving day) and it was not that crowded, I guess I was lucky because I have heard this place is always busy, there was a few line up which ended quickly, I had to wait less than 10 minutes.

This was so disappointing 😭 I have heard that Cantonese food in Vancouver is known as some of the best outside of HK (if not better). This restaurant is always listed on must-eat recommendations and it was obvious that the queue was full of locals....so why did it taste so mid??? 😭 I refuse to believe this is the benchmark...I thought this was a city of foodies! We arrived around an hour before closing. Most menu items were sold out by then, that's fine no problem. But I'm sorry, the food was absolutely not worth the hype. ❌ Roast pork crackling was not crispy enough. Meat was too dry. ❌ Char siu was too fatty and chewy. ❌ Soy sauce chicken was the best thing on the plate but not the best I've ever had. The scallion ginger oil was also overloaded on salt
Eva H — Google review
Good but not worth the hype and the wait. BBQ pork was better than the soy chicken. Sauces were good, as was the rice. Just not sure it can be said to be much better than other places in YVR.

MARCH 14, 2025: HK BBQ MASTER IS MY REASON FOR EXISTENCE I AM NOTHING WITHOUT HK BBQ MASTER AHHHHHH my expectations coming were THROUGH the roof and i was so expecting to be let down but OH MY GOD somehow my expectations were EXCEEDED this is the best restaurant in canada istg and it’s almost very nearly one of the best in the world im convinced. i tried all four meats, the bbq pork, the bbq duck, the roasted pork, and the soya chicken and they were honestly all so DELECTABLE that i can’t even pick a favourite. i requested the fatty bbq pork and they definitely delivered — it was tender, so flavourful and had such a nice sweet flavour that wasn’t sickening. the roasted pork was super delicious as well, with the skin SUPER crispy and the fat SUPER fatty, and was also quite salty. honestly, even though this is the one i was looking forward to eating the most, i’d say that this is the one i’d leave out just because it didn’t taste as “cohesive” as the other meats. the soya chicken was SO juicy and not at all dry, the scallion oil on top was actually a perfect complement and it made it taste so good. the bbq duck i WAS NOT EXPECTING to be so good but omg seriously jawdropping, i feel like im just using the same descriptors but seriously those bites with the pieces of fat and skin and greasiness and mingled together, eaten with the rice was actually heaven on earth. my favourite part was ordering another bowl of rice which came PIPING hot and enjoying all the meat like that. seriously the most sensational experience. i feel like with chinese bbq, it’s very easy to get dry meat especially with the duck and chicken and charshiu, but somehow every single bite of meat was so moist and juicy and soft and flavourful, not an ounce of dryness in the entire meal. the ladies there were also super nice and friendly, and the portions were huge — there was so much meat on my plate. IN CONCLUSION (because hk bbq master deserves a conclusion) if i lived near richmond i swear i’d be here everyday, and im definitely coming back because this has been one of the highlights of my entire life. ——————————————————————— AUGUST 21, 2025: update update update ! upon returning, i have decided that my favourite is definitely the charsiu (bbq pork), specifically the fatty version. it’s so tender it literally melts in your mouth, and the sticky sweet honey coating is a perfect pairing with the hot rice.

We loved HK B.B.Q. Master so much, we went back twice during our Vancouver holiday—that’s how good it was. Tucked under a parking structure, it might not look fancy from the outside, but once you taste the food, you'll understand the hype. The roasts are absolutely legit—classic Hong Kong–style BBQ, full of flavor and expertly done. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to rank: 1. Roast Duck – crispy skin, juicy meat, and perfectly seasoned. 2. Char Siu – sweet, savory, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. 3. Soy Chicken – beautifully poached, silky, and fragrant. 4. Deep-Fried Pork – crunchy outside, juicy inside, with a great bite. The place gets busy, and for good reason—this is one of the best Cantonese roast spots you’ll find in North America. Definitely a must-visit when in Vancouver, especially if you love Chinese comfort food done the right way.

Chinese restaurant
Seafood restaurant
Chef Tony Seafood Restaurant is an upscale Chinese dining option located in the stylish Empire Centre Mall. Since its opening in 2014, it has gained significant popularity and acclaim for its creative dishes and dim sum offerings. The restaurant's lavish decor, including gaudy chandeliers and purple light beams, adds to its appeal. Chef Tony has set a new standard for dim sum, prompting other establishments to elevate their offerings.
The server made suggestions on the menu which worked perfectly for us! Enjoyed the delicious meal. Only thing is if they can work on plating would make it 200/100

We were disappointed with the food and service there. The place was recommended by a friend and we wanted to try their crabs. The 2.5 lb crab dish was not that flavorful. The beef rice noodle was dry. We liked the cucumber appetizer. The service was average. It seems the server had no patience with us. Overall the food and service do not justify the higher price there. Would go elsewhere next time.

Very busy restaurant. Arrived and got seated despite not having reservation. Service was spotty. Not sure how they were Michelin rated. Ordered a couple of dim sums. They were all good. Truffle should not be used for some of the dishes. For example, truffle on top of shou mai just does not taste good. I don't know why they make it that way. However, truffle with chicken was delicious. Lobster with glutinous rice was good as were the brisket and frog with salt and pepper. Overall, food was very good but the service and ambiance needs some work.

A very positive first visit here and in the top tier of dim sum restaurants that I’ve tried! The black salted egg yolk lava buns and the shrimp rice rolls were my highlights. I was a bit apprehensive about the service based on past reviews here, but the three of us got in without a reservation after a short wait on a Wednesday, and the service afterwards was just fine.

Ordered lobster with noodles, twice-cooked pork, fish w/ veggies, and they steamed the remaining bit of the fish from the previous dish. Lobster came at 6:25PM, and the last dish came at 7:20PM (we had to follow up with them twice). Service from the manager was alright, but service from the server was downright bad. When changing plates, he tossed my plate to me which clanged pretty hard. We asked him to follow up on the fish, and he didn't tell us a thing afterward. Ridiculous that other tables (that came way after us) were getting entire steamed fishes before we got our plate of fish bits. No cilantro on top either, just green onion. Portions were small for the price (aside from the twice-cooked pork), and dishes took so long between each other that my rice turned completely cold. Won't be returning as what we got for paying $222 was completely not worth it. I was still hungry by the end, and not a single apology for the ridiculous wait. For 3.5 dishes, it shouldn't have taken so long. At the very least, at least have the courtesy to let us know the progress of the dish.

Absolutely the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The service was a complete disaster no one bothered to check on our table, and we sat there for nearly 40 minutes just waiting to order while people who came after us were served first. They messed up our order not once but twice, bringing the wrong dishes both times. And when the bill came, they somehow managed to charge us for two dishes that never even showed up and then charged us incorrectly twice. The whole experience was so bad it still annoys me to this day. This place shouldn’t even be in business. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this restaurant.

After several visits, I finally realized why the restaurant’s dim sum is consistently underwhelming. Much of the menu appears to rely on prefabricated dishes (預製菜), disguised under a layer of cheap truffle oil to give an illusion of luxury. This approach not only compromises flavor and freshness, but also shows a lack of respect for diners and for Richmond’s rich culinary community. Authentic dim sum should reflect craftsmanship and pride — not convenience and shortcuts. I sincerely hope the restaurant reevaluates its practices and starts serving freshly prepared, genuine dim sum that honors the traditions and expectations of its customers. P.S the server Kelly was super nice and helpful

Been to Chef Tony’s a few times before, and most recently invited friends who were visiting from out of town last week. They are experienced travelers and have tasted many similar Cantonese cuisine all over the world, and they commended this place as “every dish was delicious” and “very high quality in both presentation and taste”. Not to mention the service is above average for Chinese restaurants, so, will visit again for sure!

Seafood restaurant
Steveston Seafood House is a popular dining spot located in the heart of a major fishing port. The restaurant offers a wide variety of seafood items, including fresh oysters, Dungeness crab, and wild salmon. In addition to seafood, the menu also features meat and vegetarian dishes for non-seafood lovers. The restaurant is known for its eco-friendly menu items certified by the Ocean-Wise program.
Steveston Seafood House is one of the gems in Steveston that you should not miss. It was a busy Friday night but we were able to get a table right away. Brianne was our server and she was wonderful, always attentive with a pleasant personality. I had the Lobster and Crab Ravioli with Tiger Prawns and it was very tasty. For appetizers we shared the Calamari and the Scallops wrapped in Bacon. For dessert we shared the New York Cheesecake and the Apple Crumble. All of the food was excellent and we left having had a great meal and a fabulous experience.

Steveston Seafood House 3951 Moncton St, Richmond, BC V7E 3A7 #seafood #steveston #richmond This location is away from the water, on the corner of Moncton and No 1 Road. Buck a Shuck was the draw.. order additional $15 of food is the deal.. We ordered: Buck A Shuck 2 dozen - local Paradise oysters, not the prettiest and different sizing but tasty and fresh all the same. Fish and Chips - panko crusted, tender flaky fish and crunchy chips Seafood Linguini - large portion, ask for more sauce if you like your pasta saucy like I do. Our server Jack, was extremely pleasant and efficient. For a romantic date table, ask for Table 7.

Went here for my birthday dinner with my parents and wife. Great spot for a celebration without being overpriced. We tried four different fish (sablefish, halibut, salmon, and char) and each was cooked really well with slight variations that made them stand out. Oysters were a nice bonus at $1.50 each with entrées. Service was excellent—our waiter kept things light with jokes and even brought me dessert when he found out it was my birthday. Overall, a solid seafood dinner and good value.

CAD1.5 oysters are only available if purchasing food and drinks over CAD15. Good to know before head. Single choice oysters but the size is acceptable. The day I tried was a creamy one. Generous on sauce. Waiter very proactive to refill water and care about how was the food. Opening hours vary so check before you go.

Steveston Seafood House is a popular restaurant known for its fresh West Coast seafood and warm, familiar atmosphere. Reviews frequently highlight the quality of the seafood, with many guests claiming it's the best they've ever had. The restaurant is also praised for its attentive service and the owner, Shane, is mentioned as a delight. It’s a wonderful dining experience. Yes it’s a touch on the pricey side but it makes up for the quality and freshness they provide.

We dropped by for lunch and were most pleasantly surprised. Phenomenal service and a choice of excellent seafood options. White table cloth, smiling well trained servers and tasty dishes in a relaxing nicely appointed surroundings. Definitely a spot to revisit.

We went to celebrate my sisters birthday. We began with the seafood platter, with side orders of raw oysters. The presentation and flavours were terrific. Servers were attentive, friendly and fun. Two of us had the short ribs and one guest had the seafood linguini.

A Solid Spot with a Steal of a Deal! A decent restaurant with friendly service and fair prices. The highlight has to be the $1 oysters — fresh local BC oysters that are an absolute steal! Briny, sweet, and shucked to order. Well worth stopping by for this unbeatable deal.

Shanghainese restaurant
Shanghai River Restaurant in Richmond offers a classic Shanghai dining experience with a view of dim sum chefs at work. The restaurant is known for its authentic Szechuan and Hunan cuisine, serving up must-try dishes like Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) and signature Shanghai Noodles. Visitors can expect excellently prepared chicken, pork, beef, and seafood dishes that cater to every palate.
Best fried rice I have ever tasted! The place was packed within 30 minutes of us arriving at just after 5pm with lots of happy families enjoying their time together. The quality and variety of dishes were excellent as well. If I ever get the chance to come to Richmond again I would be excited to share this place with a friend.

I used to love coming here, less frequent after COVID. I had families in town and took them there, reminiscing on my many good meals in the past. I was greatly disappointed. What happened to the food here? It's not even 10% as good as it was way back when! Peking duck was one of the worst I had lately. Dry and flavourless. Both the skin with crepes and the lettece wrap was bland. The prawn in salad dressing was not edible, oily with an aftertaste. XLB remained the same though, it was never good to me here. (Personal taste there) Fish was not fresh and small portion for the price. Seems a lot of dishes' portion are a lot smaller now though. The braised pork hock in brown sauce was mediocre. Not that soft and sauce wasn't made right. Jelly fish was decent and serve at perfect temperature. Hot and sour soup was so bland that I actually made my own the next day and it's not even my cuisine. Star of the day though, is the rice with salted ham and veggies. Without this dish saving the day, I would vouch to never return here again. It was perfection! That being said, chances of me coming back again is slim to none. I used to come here once every feel weeks, enjoying pekind duck, crab, lobsters, prawn. After COVID I was still coming once in a while but last visit was it for me. Sad to say goodbye to such a good place with so many good memories before. After I spoke to some of my friends, they are told me they haven't been coming for a long time now because the quality went downhill. I guess that's true.

Located across from a shopping mall, ground floor of a building. Reservation is recommended as it can get busy on weekends. Not too many Dimsum options; although they do make tasty dumplings on site. We were there mainly for Dimsum so it was a bit disappointing to find limited options. Wonton soup was tasty with great broth. Highly recommending their juicy dumplings. Foods are decent not the greatest for a return. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.

More improvement is required for the taste. The waitress kept cleaning up our tables and pushed us to return tables. We preferred them to speak to us if they needed the table back rather than doing many things to push us to leave

While catering mainly to Cantonese, this restaurant serves up some legit, good tasting, flavorful dishes. I've been taken to, and taken friends, both Hong Kong and Mainland China, and we were never disappointed with the items served. Their dumplings had a thin shell, but loaded with soup inside! Gets busy, so go early! A must have each time we visit Vancouver.
Gabe — Google review
All dishes were acceptable - wine chicken very soft and smooth. Vegetarian duck - crispy bean curd, but the ratio of bean curd to mushroom was off. dumplings and buns were juicy, and the oyster rice soup was a surprise - it was 3 whole oysters instead of chopped up ones. The only disappointment was the red bean dessert - the crust was soggy and not enough red beans.

A great authentic Shanghai meal at a reasonable price. The turnip pastry is a MUST-have. I highly recommend that dish. Will absolutely go back to try other dishes as well.
Angie H — Google review
Their version of wuxi style (black vinegar) spare ribs is excellent and probably the most famous dish here. Ribs are lightly breaded and fried and the sauce isn't too sweet, it kind of reminded me of Cantonese preserved plum ribs but more tart. All the other Shanghaiese classics like beef pancake, lion's head and xlb are also solid. All dumplings and dimsum are made to order (even the fried items) and shouldn't be missed. Many tables also order the lobster claypot vermicelli noodle and fried taro duck. At night, Cantonese-style seafood dishes are popular.

"The Fish Man" is a popular seafood restaurant in Richmond, known for its down-to-earth atmosphere and terrace. The owner, Bo Li, is a Jilin-born sushi chef who prefers customers to avoid the roasted Chong Qing fish and instead opt for the fresh daily seafood options like ginger scallops. The menu features a variety of signature dishes including conch seashells, geoduck, arctic surf clam, and their famous fish dish.
Absolutely love The Fish Man by Chef Li Bo! The seafood is incredibly fresh and full of flavour. The pickled vegetable fish 酸菜魚 is a must-try — perfectly balanced with a refreshing kick. The geoduck prepared two ways is another favourite, showcasing amazing texture and quality. On top of the great food, the service is always warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. A fantastic spot for anyone who loves top-notch seafood and great hospitality!

If you’re a fan of spicy seafood, Fish Man Restaurant in Richmond is a must-visit! We tried the hot and sour fish soup, which was packed with tender fish and fresh vegetables—full of bold, tangy flavor with a good spicy kick. We originally had our eyes on the scallops, but they were sold out, so we went with the clams in black bean sauce instead. No regrets—they were meaty, flavorful, and well-cooked. The real standout for us was the fried rice. It had incredible flavor and that unmistakable wok hay that’s hard to find. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality makes it worthwhile. Definitely recommended for seafood lovers looking for bold flavors.

Four of us went for dinner after seeing this as #9 on the list of top Chinese restaurants in Canada. Super busy, lovely room. Not a place to linger over your meal, the helpful staff helped us pick our dishes and explained how it works. Pick your fish, sauce and additions. Food hit the table really quick and hot. Delicious over all, I especially liked the main fish dish. Squid skewers were tasty but the beef was a bit chewy and very small. I think the best dish was the whole fish and the weakest was the seafood fried rice. They should reconsider using fake crab in thisndish and go for more wok flavour

This seafood spot is a real gem! Open late and full of energy, it has a vibrant atmosphere that makes every visit enjoyable. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and the dishes are prepared with skill and finesse — clearly the work of a talented chef. To top it all off, the service is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!

The fish man pricing is steep. Menu was some what complicated. We asked how much for a particular dish. The lady in purple hair was very rude and offish. She said the fish is like 3lbs x 48$ = 144$ a very expensive fish soup. So we decided to take the other 79$ dish. Anyway after all said and done the fish soup cost 144$ (she did the 3x48$ item) and total bill 220+ tip. Bill is attached. Not a good experience.

Fresh seafood and flavors very true to asian flavors. If you're traveling in Vancouver and need a change from western cuisine great place for asian seafood.

Expensive but the seafood is fresh and good. I will definitely coming back to eat. However, do not sit outdoor patio like us.
