The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough is a treasure trove of over 100 canoes, kayaks, and paddled watercraft that offer a fascinating glimpse into Canada's rich history. The museum showcases the world's largest collection of these water vessels, with around 150 on display and an additional 500 housed in a nearby 'canoe cathedral' warehouse.
Visiting The Canadian Canoe Museum was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the incredible collection of canoes, kayaks, and paddled watercraft from all over the world. Each piece tells a unique story, beautifully connecting Canada’s history, culture, and traditions with the present. The exhibits are interactive and engaging — perfect for visitors of all ages. I loved being able to immerse myself in hands-on displays and learn about the craftsmanship behind canoe building. The museum does a fantastic job blending storytelling, art, and education. One of the highlights was the opportunity to experience on-the-water adventures. Paddling right outside the museum added a whole new level of connection to what I had seen indoors. The outdoor spaces are stunning, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed to complement the museum experience. Overall, The Canadian Canoe Museum offers a perfect mix of history, adventure, and fun. Whether you're passionate about paddling or just curious about Canada’s rich heritage, it’s definitely worth the visit

An awesome museum worth every minute! It's amazing to see such a great collection of canoes through history - ones from famous stories, famous people, and monumental events. Learng about canoe culture is particularly interesting seeing as I'm a travelling Australian. Go check it out.
Rhys C — Google review
We loved the tour! It's easy to spend about 2 hours in their stunning new home. With about 100 canoes on display and another 1000 or so in storage, there is alot to see. The history, the craftsmanship, the variety, the stories of the original owners and their adventures add up to a uniquely Canadian experience, well worth a visit!

Beautiful new museum and exhibit overlooking Little Lake in Peterborough! Very comfortable and chill atmosphere. Took the afternoon tour with the kids and felt like they were able to get a lot more out of the exhibit. Very kid friendly with video, listening stations, scavenger hunt, and drawing pages.

Darn! What a nice museum here in Peterborough Ontario. I found out afterwards that this town was the birthplace so to speak of the canoe. So it’s no wonder the Canoe Museum is here in Peterborough. It’s such a nice museum and lots of facts and figures to explore throughout. The only gripe I have is that I thought the price was maybe a little much for what they have but honestly it is worth it if you want to learn the history of the canoe. 👍😎
Yodaman S — Google review
I really wanted to love this place. With a really curious mind who can be interested in almost anything and a love of canoes (been canoeing since I was 8 years old and own my own cedar-strip canoe built for me), I still found the exhibits pretty dry and the labeling not engaging. The best part of my visit was seeing the canoe vault.
Christine H — Google review
Fascinating museum showcasing both the mastery and beauty of the canoe, but the history of the indigenous peoples and their journeys. Also an astounding piece of architecture, using natural materials to perfection.

What a wonderful experience! Anyone who has paddled or who has an interest in Canadian history with find something valuable here. We really enjoyed it. Plus the butter tarts in the café are amazing !

The Peterborough Lift Lock, a remarkable feature of the Trent-Severn Waterway, stands as a testament to modern engineering prowess. This impressive hydraulic boat lift elevates vessels by an astonishing 65 feet, making it the highest of its kind globally. Completed in 1904 and designed by Richard Birdsall Rogers, this National Historic Site offers visitors a glimpse into the ingenuity of early 20th-century engineering.
It's a good place to understand how a lock works and learn Canadian history. Good for family, students and tourists. The scenery around the lock is also beautiful, especially in fall, wothy to spend some time walking around and enjoying a picnic. The visitor center nearby will closed in fall and winter. when it open, you can use the washroom inside and learn more about the hydraulic locks. See the beautiful pictures I took in fall 2019
Ken X — Google review
Fascinating piece of Canadian engineering and history. Watching the boats pass through the lock system is both relaxing and impressive. The area is well-maintained, perfect for a peaceful stop, picnic, or short walk. A great spot to learn about how the waterways connect Ontario's lakes and rivers.

I recently visited the Peterborough Lift Lock, and it was a fascinating experience. The surrounding park is perfect for a picnic, and the nearby visitor center offers informative exhibits and a short film about the Trent-Severn Waterway. Climbing the stairs to the top provides a panoramic view of the area, making it a must-see spot for anyone in the region
Pranisha R — Google review
A beautiful structure and fun place to be at the annual paddle and lock event in July! Would come again but maybe in a canoe or a comfortable kayak (not a playboat kr white water kayak) as you may be sitting in this for 3-4 hours (specifically for the paddle lock event) depending on crowd sizes and line ups to get up and down the lock!

This year it was on my birthdate n i loved every minutes of my day with a girlfriend then boat cruise with lunch included deluxe motor coach from kingston to peterborough even canadian canoe museam

What an absolutely amazing experience. I've seen photos but when you see this structure in person you realize the photos just don't do it justice.

Travel the beautiful Trent-Severn Waterway. Or the Rideau System on the Kawartha Voyager. It's great multi-day river and lake cruising. Search Ontario Waterway Cruises!!!

Really cool place to see but the visitor center was closed when we arrived. The scale of the lift is not obvious until you are up close. You can walk to the lock and go up the stairs to see it from the top. All in all, with the history of has, worth the visit.

The Peterborough Museum & Archives, previously known as the Peterborough Centennial Museum and Archives (PCMA), is a renowned historical museum in Peterborough, Ontario. It boasts an extensive collection of over 33,000 artifacts and thousands of linear feet of archival materials. Despite space limitations, the museum offers rotating exhibits covering indigenous periods, early settlement, transportation history, and technological advancements in Ontario.
The donation based system is an amazing idea and the museum is worth checking out! I didn't have high expectations but I was very surprised by how interesting everything was and especially the choice of topics. Great little place! We went on a Wednesday afternoon and the lady at the counter was super sweet and helpful!

Wonderful museum, have things for the kids to do at the various exhibits. The large exhibit rooms displays change keeping things fresh. Always a worthwhile visit and within walking distance of various restaurants, a Foodland, Tim Hortons and the Quaker Oats plant

Great place to visit and learn about the history of the city and area around Peterborough. Displays trace a timeline from before 0 BC until present day. Lots of displays, as well as activities for children. Admission is free, but a donation is suggested to allow the museum to continue operating!

Went to this free museum 3 time with the kids this summer. They loved it!! Scavenger hunt and activities while taking a trip down Peterborough history. Small but has great compact information. I love the kitchen from 1920’s

I’m from Rochester NY but my fiancé is from Lindsay, and I always drag him to museums when I come up to Canada lol. This is a great little museum. Not to mention, it’s free to get in (we did donate though). The gift shop is very reasonably priced too, surprisingly. Most museum gift shops are extremely overpriced. But here I got a nice coffee mug for $8! I’ve seen other shops charge $20+ for a mug.

The staff is friendly and the exhibition is informative. Good to know the history of Peterborough. No admission fee, so encourage donation or buy some souvenirs.

We stumbled across this little gem, and am very glad that we did! Staff were very friendly and helpful and I met the friendly dog too. I really enjoyed learning about the area and some science topics too. Great collections with clear descriptions about what you are looking at. Nice items in gift shop area. Entrance was based on a donation. Thank you for helping to make our visit pleasurable.

The Art Gallery of Peterborough is a wonderful venue that showcases contemporary art by both local and international artists. It offers programs for children and has a gift shop where patrons can purchase artworks from local artists. While the staff is friendly, some visitors wish that prints of current pieces were available for purchase. The gallery's location on the waterfront may cause some confusion since the nearby canoe museum is inland. Though constrained by their building, the gallery displays interesting and diverse art pieces with aspirations to expand in the future.
What a gem of a place! Entrance fee is based on donation. It's situated in a beautiful area, right on the water. I loved the pieces they have, in particular, the work by artist Peer Christiansen, beautiful work! We visited the gift shop too, many beautiful items available. Staff were helpful and very friendly, thank you for making our visit special.

The Art Gallery of Peterborough is a hidden gem on the shores of Little Lake, offering a peaceful retreat with a stunning view of the water. The gallery is small but well-curated, featuring a diverse range of contemporary and historical Canadian art, with a special focus on regional and Indigenous artists. It’s the kind of place where you can step away from the noise of daily life, take in thought-provoking exhibitions, and immerse yourself in creativity. The location itself is part of the experience—nestled in a quiet, scenic spot with a walking path along the lake, making it a perfect place for reflection before or after a visit. The gallery also hosts workshops, artist talks, and community events, making it an important cultural hub for Peterborough. Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply looking for a tranquil space, it’s a wonderful place to spend an afternoon.

My daughter loves attending the summer camp here and makes lots of different kinds of art. The gallery is beautifully laid out and has many pieces to ponder over and a lovely gift shop as well. Admission is free, donations are welcomed and the staff are truly wonderful people. Great place for the whole family definitely check it out!

Zoo

Riverview Park & Zoo, located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, is a beloved destination for families and nature enthusiasts. This year-round attraction offers free admission and showcases over 45 species of animals, including Emu, Wallaby, Two-Toed Sloth, and River Otter. The park features a diverse playground with a splash pad and a frisbee golf course. Visitors can also enjoy a mini-train ride through the scenic surroundings.
Great spot for families, but plan ahead for the train ride! Riverview Park & Zoo is a hidden gem for families! The best part? Free admission and parking, which makes it a super budget-friendly day out. The zoo is small but well-kept, featuring over 40 species including monkeys, otters, camels, and meerkats. Perfect for younger kids who won’t get tired walking too far. There’s also a huge playground, splash pad, picnic areas, and scenic riverside trails. The grounds are very clean and shady—great for hot days. Definitely pack a lunch though, as there’s no working concession stand on-site as of 2025. **A heads-up: on weekends, the line for the miniature train can be 1.5 to 2 hours long, even if you already have tickets. Tickets are only $2 per person but often sell out by 4 PM, even though the train is advertised to run until 6 PM. So if the train is a must-do, buy your tickets early and expect a bit of a wait.** Overall it’s a great place to spend a few hours with kids. Just plan ahead and come early—especially if you want that train ride!
Priyanka S — Google review
The park is amazing for a day out with family. The kids play area has different sections for different age groups. The splash pad is also very nice for the kids to enjoy. The zoo area is great with a lot of animals to see. I had never seen a sloth before. The parking and zoo are free here. They do accept donations though. All in all a great place to see a lot of things and relax in the park.
Parteek B — Google review
I really enjoyed my visit to the Peterborough Zoo. It’s such a nice place to spend a few hours, and the best part is that it’s free to enter. The zoo is not huge, but it has a really good variety of animals, and everything is well looked after. The enclosures are clean, and you can tell the staff care about the animals. My favorite part was watching the monkeys and the big cats – they were so fun to see up close. The walking paths are easy to follow, and there’s plenty of space to just relax and enjoy nature. It’s also a great place for kids, with the playground and picnic areas making it feel more like a family park than just a zoo. Parking was easy, and the whole place felt safe and welcoming. Overall, it’s a hidden gem in Peterborough and definitely worth visiting.
Syed Z — Google review
Riverview Park and Zoo is such a great spot, and the best part is that it’s completely free! The zoo itself is pretty good with a nice variety of animals, but what really stood out for us were the kids’ play areas. They’re awesome — lots of space to run around and different structures to explore. My 3-year-old especially loved the long slide, which quickly became the highlight of our visit. It’s a perfect family outing spot with a good mix of animals, green space, and fun for the kids. Definitely worth checking out!
Franck M — Google review
Nice park and zoo in Peterborough. Perfect place to bring your kids and family. There are kids play area, water splash pad, zoo and ample parking. Lots of picnic tables as well if you plan to have lunch or dinner after some exciting moment with your kids. This park also has a free zoo with lot of animals to see. Kids will love it for sure. Donation to the park is appreciated as they have to maintain everything for free. The park and every place was maintained very well. Everything was clean. The splash pad water was not too cold which was good and convenient for the kids. There is a parking and access area towards the river but the parking was closed when we visited. Overall very pleased and definitely recommended.
Satyam R — Google review
Great place for kids especially. Different kind of animals. Entrance is fully free just the train ticket cost $2 which is worth it. They have water pad for kids to have fun. A lot of vending machines too if you wanna buy some snacks or drinks. After that they have llama 🦙, snake 🐍 and different kind of animals. As it was hot day so most of the animals were hiding but i really recommend everyone to visit once. Plenty of free parking and if you wanna do picnic it’s a good spot too. They have play area with slides, swings also. Full entertainment packet for kids.
Jyotika K — Google review
Such a wonderful place for families! The splash pad, playground, and zoo are all free to enjoy thanks to the generosity of donors and the community. It’s rare to find a place like this where you can see animals, let the kids play, and enjoy a relaxing picnic—all without an entrance fee. The park is clean, well-maintained, and full of shade for a summer day. We’re so grateful for the donations and support that keep this place running. It’s a true gem in Peterborough. Highly recommend visiting and, if you’re able, consider making a donation to help keep it free for everyone.
Kevin L — Google review
Disappointed their Snack Shack is gone.. but my sons had a blast otherwise. Highly recommend to make sure you pack your own snacks and drinks. The splash pad is a must on hot days! There was a bit of a line up for the Bathrooms/change rooms but nothing crazy terrible. Love this zoo.

Mexican restaurant
If you're in the mood for a vibrant culinary escape, La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant is your go-to destination. Nestled on Hunter Street in Peterborough, this charming eatery has been delighting diners since 2002 with its authentic Mexican fare. The menu boasts a variety of beloved classics like tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, ensuring there's something for everyone—whether you prefer meat or plant-based options.
We finally got her based on recommendations. I had the enchiladas, my wife had the tilapia. Plus we were given chips and home made salsa. Everything was amazing. We'll be back
John M — Google review
Had lunch here for the first time and was excited to taste authentic Mexican food. We were very encouraged to see quite a few tables already taken on an early Saturday morning and felt confident in our choice for lunch. We were greeted immediately by our server who was very friendly and accommodating to make a drink that was not offered on the menu. The chips and salsa were a delightful start and we could tell the salsa was freshly made. It was delicious. Our mains were dished perfectly and looked beautiful. This is where my review takes a turn and although our mains looked delicious they were bland and unsavoury. They had an overpowering spice taste and although they were completely different dishes, pork, beef and shrimp, they tasted the same. How is that even possible? Whatever spice they were using was too much and that’s all we could taste. Our hopeful wish for a zesty new experience fell as flat as a tortilla. Sorry, we won’t be back.
Heather W — Google review
Best and most authentic Mexican food here by far. Everything is made in house, the menu has great variety, the portions are HUGE, and the atmosphere is quiet and intimate. It's an unassuming place from outside but don't let that fool you, La Hacienda is incredible!
Owen M — Google review
Came here for the first time and was very impressed by the food! Everything tasted amazing and fresh. Was just a bit disappointed by the service, just feel like it kind of lacked a bit. But would definitely come again to try other dishes!
Vanessa A — Google review
Amazing service, beautiful patio and fresh tasting authentic Mexican cuisine! So fortunate to have a great restaurant in our Downtown Core that offers a variety of Mexican dishes from salsa or guacamole and chips, tacos, soups or salads, alcoholic beverages and desserts! I have always had an enjoyable time at this location. Sandra and her staff are attentive and a pleasure to speak with. Enjoy! Update: I enjoyed Taco Tuesday with a side of margaritas and it did not disappoint! Truly delicious! Update: Went to the Dragon Boat Festival and La Hacienda was there so I purchased birria tacos, guac and chips plus chips for home! Proceeds went to the fundraiser!
Laura M — Google review
I don’t know why this place is so highly rated. This definitely isn’t authentic Mexican, despite its claims. It’s not even good inauthentic Mexican. The food is bland, seemingly seasoned only with salt and maybe cilantro. No cumin, no Mexican oregano, and definitely no dried chiles. The sopa azteca just tastes salty, and their mole is extremely sweet and tastes of nothing but chocolate and cinnamon. It doesn’t have any sort of depth to it. There's absolutely no spice to the food, either. I’m not asking that the food be spicy, but I ask for it to have some flavour to it besides salt. The salsa isn’t any good, either. The salsa is extremely bland and under-seasoned. You can get better salsa from a taco kit. I’ve never had good Mexican food from an “authentic” Mexican restaurant in Canada. This is probably the last time I ever going to a Mexican restaurant. From now on I’m just making my own at home. The only good thing I can say about the food is that it was presented nicely. The hot chocolate wasn’t half bad, either. Edit in response to owner: Cumin was introduced to Mexico over 500 years ago, around the same time tomatoes were introduced to Italy (however it wasn’t until more recently that tomatoes were incorporated into Italian cuisine). While many people associate cumin with Tex-Mex, it is used in Mexico, most notably in northern Mexico. That being said, it doesn’t explain why the food wasn’t enjoyable. I have minimal expectations of what Mexican food should taste like, as I’ve only eaten what could be described as “bland, unpleasant, or dry” at other Mexican restaurants in Canada. I’ve watched a number of Mexican cooking shows in which a number of dried fruits, chiles, cocoa, and other ingredients were used to make mole, so I imagine mole should incorporate the flavours of those ingredients. I brought the leftovers home from La Hacienda, and had some other people try it to see what they thought. They were surprised that I had eaten as much of the meal as I had, as they thought it tasted bad. Likewise, this restaurant not using cumin doesn’t explain why the salsa was bland and under-salted. Most salsas don’t include cumin, so the fact that this restaurant doesn’t use cumin doesn’t explain things. Also, many salsas are mild yet are still flavourful, yet the mild salsa served at this restaurant was bland. If you have to rely on “heat” to give something flavour, it’s not truly flavourful. I’ve had enchiladas with mole in the southern United States, and the mole at those restaurants had deeper, more nuanced flavour. However, I found the mole at this restaurant overwhelmed the dish and clashed with the food it was served with. Likewise, I’ve been to a number of restaurants claiming to serve authentic cuisines from around the world, such as Nepalese restaurants, French restaurants, Ukrainian restaurants, and Cantonese restaurants. Despite them not being your typical “Canadian foods”, these places had food that tasted good. I forgot to add that the restaurant was extremely cold when we went. All the other guests at the restaurant had their coats on. I’m not taking any points off for that, just thought I should give you the heads up in case you were aware.

We had a fantastic meal! The food was incredibly tasty and had that authentic, homely feel you crave. The portions were big and great value. You have to try the pulled pork tacos; the meat was so flavorful and tender. We also loved the fajitas. My only minor suggestion would be to kick up the spice level a notch and be a bit more generous with the jalapeños for those of us who like extra heat. Regardless, we highly recommend and will definitely be back

Ashburnham Ale House is a cozy pub in Peterborough, Ontario, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere with wooden interiors and outdoor seating. Located in downtown Peterborough, it provides a great spot to enjoy some drinks and casual dining while soaking up the city's ambiance.
For Asian’s the nacho is big enough for 8 adults The curry is like butter chicken, juicy chicken breast. My kids loved the pizza, one of my kids rated it a 9.5. The staff was so lively and friendly, reminds me of my stay in Japan. Will definitely go back here!

Overall a nice dinner experience with a group of 6. Service is efficient and friendly. Great selection of craft beers and nice wine choices too. Calamari app was just ok. Lamb burger excellent and a nice side salad. Karma 3.0 made with shrimp was delicious. 2 orders of this at the table! Pizza of the day also great.

We tried this place because of Google revew photo of brisket sandwich. The menu was upgraded and also fantastic. All our food was delicious and authentic. (nacho, poutine, sandwich, and hamburger) Usual choices but they all had something only Ashburnham Ale House offers. The aroma was rich. Cheese and veggies were fresh. I was impressed with hard wood tabels and chairs whereas new restaurants are filled with cheap and light furniture. And pictures on wall get us going with the history of Peterborough. We happened to sit near the photo of Peterborough Lift Lock construction. We visited last week and will go back there this weekend from Toronto since my children asked for it. LOL We will re-visit Peterborough Lift Lock site coordinated with the lift lock cruise time to see the lift going up and down.

We had an amazing experience at Ashburnham Ale House! The food here is absolutely outstanding. Their brisket sandwich is hands down one of the best I've ever had – the meat was incredibly tender, perfectly smoked, and just melted in your mouth with every bite. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and it came with delicious sides that complemented it perfectly. We also ordered the nachos and they were phenomenal! Loaded with toppings, fresh ingredients, and generous portions that were perfect for sharing. Every bite was packed with flavor. And I have to rave about their Ale House Caesar drink – it was expertly crafted with just the right amount of spice and garnish. It's clear they take pride in their beverages as much as their food. The atmosphere was welcoming and the service was top-notch. This place is a must-visit if you're in the area. We'll definitely be coming back soon!

Food was delicious! I had the schnitzel sandwich and it was fantastic along with a beer. Its also one of my friends favorite go to spot. Only complaints are the prices a bit high and hard to find parking.
Paul-Joseph G — Google review
I've been here a number of times and have never been disappointed - this visit though, was something exceptional; I paired their basa wrap with a pork belly vegetable soup and it was absolutely phenomenal. Despite double downing on the spicy choices, the flavors weren't sacrificed in the process; this is the kind of place you go and you instantly know that the ones working in the kitchen take true pride in what they do and have outstandingly keen senses in what marries well together. The waiting staff are all very friendly, attentive and warm as well. Their beer selection is constantly rotating so its a fun surprise of what you have the opportunity to sample next. The music choice of the night (Glorious Sons) was ridiculously appropriate - because that's what their kitchen staff are (as was the server)! 🔥 Keep up the awesome work!

St. Veronus Cafe and Tap Room is a traditional tavern that exudes an old-world charm, with its dark wooden walls and Belgian-inspired comfort food. Located in a historic building that was once a bank, this establishment boasts an atmosphere filled with history and character. The menu at St. Veronus offers a delightful array of Belgian-influenced dishes, paired perfectly with their selection of wheat beers on tap.
The food here is fantastic! Great portion sizes and very reasonable prices as well. There was also a good amount of vegetarian and pescatarian options. We had a vegetable sandwich, fried brussels sprouts (highly recommend!), and chocolate spearmint crème brûlée. All the food was great. Good atmosphere and our sever was very attentive as well. Will definitely be coming back!

We came here for lunch as it was the most popular recommendation for a good restaurant in Peterborough. My wife and I had the St. Veronus Club. It was possibly the best club sandwich I've had. Portions were hefty, roast turkey was tender and juicy, the bread was crispy, and the salad was fresh. Service was stellar, friendly and proactive, making sure we had lots of water. Our server even read our minds and brought a takeout container for my wife without us asking. Excellent experience all around.

Came here last month when I was stopping in Peterborough overnight after a long day of travel. Had this place recommended to me so I took the trip downtown to try it out. I don't regret it! I came in quite late due to my travel, so the place was quite empty, but the staff was extremely friendly and didn't cut any corners despite this. My server was very kind and walked me through the menu and helped me pick out an appetizer and meal. The food was excellent. I loved every bite, and the portions are extremely generous. The frites here are also to die for, and I felt so bad that I wasn't able to finish them all! Felt like a sin to waste a single morsel of food here. Absolutely come here if you're in town! It's worth the trip downtown to come here.
A — Google review
As usual, the food and atmosphere at St Veronus was excellent. The service, however, was unusually shocking. Our server appeared to have no other agenda than to take our orders, present our appetizers and main course and have us vacate our table as quickly as possible (party of 6). This approach culminated in the offer and presentation of boxes (at the table) for those that were taking portions of their very generous mains home prior to 2 patrons in our party completing their meal. This all under the guise of the server being concerned that a table of 15 that was to be seated after us would inundate the kitchen and slow our service. This group appeared and began placing their orders over 45 minutes after our orders were taken. St Veronas is not a breakfast diner. I do not, and did not, expect the service to be of that calibre.

I absolutely LOVE St Veronus! From the beautiful and unique atmosphere, to the delicious food prepared and the wonderful service, I have always appreciated this fine dining experience. In the winter months the restaurant is cozy with candles lit and soft music playing. In the summer, there is a gorgeous back patio that offers a unique vibe while sitting in the sun enjoying a refreshing beverage and a plate of frites! My recommendation is the Steak and Frites however, I have always enjoyed all the food recommendations offered! I love their sandwich and salad weekly lunch option! Perfect with their coffee.

My partner and I have come here a few times now, and haven't had anything we don't like! The mussels are never a miss, the brussel sprouts appetizer is a decent and DELICIOUS meal for one, great sharer for two. Key lime creme brulee!? Reason enough to come back all the time. Everything was delicious, the service was courteous but not overbearing, and ambience and lighting was spot on. 100 percent recommend for a weeknight dinner, or a weekend celebration.

Genuinely life-affirming food. Every time I come here, I leave knowing the world is a beautiful place, and it is in no small part because of the stoemp. Also try the meatballs and the croquettes! The beer selection is through the roof too.

Cafe
The Silver Bean Cafe, a popular establishment in Peterborough known for its casual and hearty cafe offerings, is a must-visit spot for local dining experiences. Open seasonally from May 1st to mid-October, this waterside stop offers outdoor seating where patrons can enjoy their meals amidst a beautiful view.
I’ve been wanting to visit this seasonal spot for some time and it did not disappoint! Situated right on the river it has a huge patio with loads of seating and great views. The menu has a good variety and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The lemonade was definitely fresh squeezed and refreshing. You order inside and they bring your order to your table, which was delivered very fast.

Good service, friendly staff, good that hits the spot are all you will find here at this cafe. Need a nice place to chill after spending time in the natural environment, then stop by this spot. My fave is to grab a delicious ice cream cone after walking along the trail. Don’t wait forever cause this spot closes at 7. Shout out to the young ladies working there for taking my order a minute before closing . And yes, the ice cream was so delicious

Lovely outdoor seating area by the water with yummy food and drinks. I had a strawberry lemonade and spicy pear cheddar panini.

Big Brothers Big Sisters was hosting a camp week and had a last-minute change to our programming. The Silver Bean Cafe really came through for us! They generously provided small ice cream cones to all of the kids in our program, free of charge. For some of the kids, it was their very first time visiting The Silver Bean, and they loved it. The ice cream was delicious, especially on such a hot summer day. After enjoying our treats, we played games in the park, which made for the perfect way to fill the afternoon. We are so grateful for their kindness and community spirit. Thank you, Silver Bean!

Great cafe on the river! Specialty coffees wraps and sandwiches. Wraps are generous made with fresh ingredients. I had the chicken caesar, lots of chicken, bacon and fresh parmigiano! The salads are great too!

I have always enjoyed the downtown location as it feels like a cottage with the waterfront views. I have had meetings and events here. The food is nutritious and filling. They serve ice cream and coffee. I enjoyed going to the location at the New Canadian Canoe Museum too!

Restaurant
The Publican House Brewery & Pub is a popular spot in Peterborough, housed in a historic 170-year-old building. Originally opened as a brewery in 2008, it quickly expanded due to its popularity and is now run by Brad and Katie Watt. The restaurant has become an institution in the city's culinary scene. The founders' passion and vision brought this establishment to life, making it one of the best dining spots in Peterborough.
I've come a few times with friends because it has such a good vibe. Great little outdoor patio in the summer and plenty of indoor seating throughout the year. My friends and I always get a flight with our meal as you can sample a few different beers. There's something for everyone! As a plus, this is more of an upscale pub I've been to. Food is a tad more expensive but everything I have tried to date is delicious. Definitely recommend the Cuban egg rolls and fungi pizza!

We went here for lunch. Pizza and cheese dip were great. The beer and service was good. They didn't have wings unfortunately. The place is a nice place to hangout.

Considering 2 days into opening, the typical bugs need worked out. Owners have big shoes to fill, with The Publican success over the years. You’re only good as your food, menu is too big for a small venue. Though the best service is great, but it’s the food that’ll bring you back over and over again. See you in the coming days. Service was great! Atmosphere was good as well. Not a pub feel though, maybe it’ll change.

Good place to eat. Nice patio. Cauliflower bites and Grilled Calamari over pineapple slaw.. so good! My friend said the Funghi pizza was one of the favourite pizzas she's ever had. Wood fired and light and crispy. Gluten free options !

I had the pleasure of attending two different events at the Publican House. One was in the morning with coffee and pastries provided while the other was in the evening serving beverages and appetizers. The food is very tasty and there is a variety to choose from. The bars are both gorgeous and the bartenders are excellent. Shout out to Josh! He made Lavender Mojitos that were pretty and refreshing! The patio is a wonderful hideaway on a busy street that you don’t notice. The entire restaurant is beautifully decorated too. Amazing atmosphere for any event. The brewery is next door and offers beer for purchase

The renovations the Publican House did are awesome. The retro vibe accents Really add to the atmosphere. And the food WOW the chicken pot pie might be my favorite dish ever and it was my wifes dish. The fish and chips were crispy and delicious. We will definitely be back. 10 stars

We went for the first time on the weekend and I was blown away by this restaurant. The atmosphere is two-fold: a friendly yet rustic-chic bar area when you first walk in, and then a cozy back area to dine at the tables. The kitchen is partially open giving you access to see the large wood oven where they make the pizzas fresh. The menu was great! Lots of options but not overwhelming. We ordered two appetizers: the dip trio and the Cuban egg rolls. The portion size is amazing and just the apps alone were phenomenal (I’ve never had Cuban rolls like this). We ordered the Nashville Hot Backdoor with a Moroccan salad (best choice) and the Brussel Sprout Steak Salad and it was literally likely the best dishes I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The Moroccan salad alone was so flavourful, not packed with a ton of different random ingredients so you could truly enjoy the flavours, sauce, etc. My sandwich felt like it was 4lbs and my husbands steak salad was crazy good and amazing portion size!! Our server Magda was so sweet and friendly, and made the experience all that much better. Honestly if you’ve never been to this restaurant this is your sign to do so. Will be back again (and again)!

Went there last night. First time it was renovated and new menu. I have nothing but good things to say about it. Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Great service. Place was full but not overly noisy. Highly recommend Publican House.
