Amusement center
Navy Pier, a former Navy training center turned iconic Chicago landmark, is a beloved destination for families and tourists alike. This 3,000-foot pier offers a vibrant atmosphere with carnival rides, diverse dining options, bars, and free entertainment such as live music and street performers. Visitors can also enjoy the IMAX Theater, the enchanting indoor Crystal Gardens filled with soaring palm trees, the Children's Museum, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan.
We had a fantastic time at Navy Pier with the kids! The highlights were definitely the thrilling SeaDog ride (with incredible views) and the fun rides at Pier park like the Wave Swinger. The Ferris wheel is a classic for a reason ..great for a relaxed view of everything. Food-wise, we were all happy with the burgers from Salt... the kids of course loved their Ben & Jerry's ice-cream after.. FlyOver Chicago was another fun indoor activity that the kids enjoyed. All in all, a perfect family day full of great sights and fun, a must go..if you're visiting Chicago.

A Chicago Must-Do with Endless Energy Navy Pier is the vibrant, beating heart of Chicago's waterfront. From the moment you arrive, the welcoming and festive atmosphere is infectious. Its excellent location at the edge of Lake Michigan provides stunning, picture-perfect views of the city skyline. The pier truly has something for everyone. You can get out on the water with the many available boat trips, from serene architecture tours to thrilling speedboat rides. When hunger strikes, the excellent food options range from quick snacks to sit-down meals with a view. Beyond that, there are multiple activities to fill a whole day, from the iconic Ferris wheel and carousel to live entertainment and gardens. It's the perfect place for a fun-filled outing where you're guaranteed to feel the energetic pulse of the city.

This is a cool place. There are boat rides and kiddy rides. There are performances here and of course the big famous Chicago Ferris Wheel 🎡. I've been here many times and each time I was just more and more impressed. You can also just take a little walk around and there are eateries. There are slow boat rides and fast boat rides. This is just a great place. Parking is plentiful not like in New York where I come from. Really impressive wow wow wow!!!!
Boruch Z — Google review
Navy Pier truly captures the spirit of Chicago! Gorgeous lakefront views, great food options, and a lively atmosphere all day long. Perfect for a relaxing walk, photos, or just soaking in the city’s vibe. They also have music festivals every other weekend, mainly on Saturdays. There are river front cruises that board people from navy pier and take you through the city and show you the historical buildings of Chicago. There are well maintained restrooms. There are a couple of places to eat but you may find them a little pricy. Note: Saturdays are packed with people. Sundays are a bit quieter Weekdays are way more quieter unless it's a long holiday. No tickets required to enter the pier but for cruises and Yatchs you do need to buy tickets, which you can get online or in premises. In case you are taking the boat rides, plan ahead.

Navy Pier is always one of my favorite spots in Chicago. The skyline views, lake breeze, and energy here make every visit feel special. I stopped by around sunset and the entire pier lit up beautifully—especially the Centennial Wheel. The atmosphere was lively but still relaxing, perfect for a quick walk, photos, or just enjoying the city. Parking and entry were easy, and the wait time for activities was very reasonable. Highly recommend stopping by Navy Pier whether you're a local or visiting Chicago!

Navy Pier is one of Chicago’s most iconic spots lively, beautiful, and full of things to do. From the stunning lake views to the Ferris wheel, shops, restaurants, and street performances, the whole place has an energetic and fun vibe. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, grabbing a bite, or enjoying Chicago’s skyline. A must-visit for anyone coming to the city!

Visited Navy Pier on a Friday night during the holiday season. Took an impromptu ride on the Ferris wheel ($24 per person) and enjoyed a breathtaking view of the skyline. Holiday decorations were impressive and it was a fun place to capture memories. Recommend visiting!

I wanted a place to go in Chicago without fighting all the traffic but still getting to see Lake Michigan and the downtown buildings. This was perfect! Beautiful views of the city, and if you take the Centennial wheel, you get to see incredible views 360 degrees around! There was food, music, drinks and more available depending upon time of the year, week, day, etc. I went in February once and still had a wonderful time! Parking on the pier was easy and accessible, but expensive.

Museum
Art museum
The Art Institute of Chicago is a renowned art museum that boasts an extensive collection of nearly 300,000 works from various cultures and time periods. Since its establishment in the late 1800s, the institute has grown to become one of America's largest art museums. Visitors can explore ancient Egyptian and Greek artifacts, iconic impressionist pieces by Monet and Van Gogh, as well as contemporary works by artists like Picasso, Warhol, and Pollock.
The Art Institute of Chicago is an absolute must-visit and one of the best museums in the U.S. We used the CityPASS, which gave us express entry — no long lines, a big plus! The museum is huge and beautifully curated, featuring world-famous masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh, and many other renowned artists. The layout makes it easy to navigate, and there are plenty of clean restrooms throughout. I appreciated the bag check area where you can safely leave larger items, though small bags and water bottles are allowed inside. The souvenir shop is also impressive — large and filled with unique art-inspired items. Whether you’re an art lover or a casual visitor, this museum is a Chicago highlight and a must-see attraction downtown. Spent around three hours there but could spend the whole day if we don't have other plans.

One of the best art museums I’ve ever been to. The building and location was great, how the galleries were entering through each other was really interesting. Pro-tip: use their guide! It felt more than amazing to see a lot of Monet’s painting of one collection next to each other. And seeing Van Gogh’s brush stroke felt really special. My favorite artists that had their famous artworks in this museum were: Edward Hopper - Van Gogh - Monet - George Surat- Paul Cézanne - Whistler - Hammershoi Also, their lighting was really good. Their art shop was amazing! I bought beautiful postcards for 1.5 $ and a lot of fun items from different artists. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you’re in Chicago, and setting at least 3 hours of free time to enjoy with no stress and rush.

My Visit to the Art Institute of Chicago My visit to the Art Institute of Chicago was one of the highlights of my trip. It’s not just a museum — it’s a journey through centuries of global art and culture. The building itself is grand and beautifully designed, right next to Millennium Park, making it easy to find and explore. Inside, the collection is breathtaking — from American classics like Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” and Nighthawks by Edward Hopper, to masterpieces by Monet, Van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso, and Rembrandt. Each gallery felt like stepping into a different era and part of the world. The Modern Wing was a personal favorite, showcasing stunning contemporary works in a bright, open space. The Impressionist collection is one of the best I’ve ever seen, with vivid colors and incredible detail that make you feel part of the painting. The museum staff were friendly and helpful, and the layout was easy to navigate even though the collection is vast. I also enjoyed a relaxing break at the Museum Café, overlooking the park. 📍 Tips for Visitors: • Book tickets online to save time. • Plan at least 2–3 hours (or more!) — there’s so much to see. • Audio guides and maps are very helpful for first-time visitors. • Don’t miss the gift shop for unique art-themed souvenirs. Overall, the Art Institute of Chicago is a world-class museum that beautifully captures the power of creativity and history. A must-visit for anyone coming to Chicago! 🖼️✨

We came here on a Bank of America sponsored day and luckily we have BOA accounts and we're let in for free! There's so much iconic art here. And it truly is a massive space - I tried to speed run the whole museum in 2 hours and only got through ~85% of it. Really appreciated all the curated works and how they organized each room/section, and their exhibits were also very special.

Wonderful place full of wonderful pieces of art. Retail shop and cafe Staff were super polite and helpful. This makes the experience more delightful. A bit crowded for my taste but, I did go on a Saturday and am in a big city. I included a couple photos of some miniature home creations. The detail and patients is superb.

During my last trip to Chicago I got the CityPass and visited this enormous museum on a Monday during summer. If you like to appreciate art this is your museum, it has lots of sculptures, paintings, photography, textiles, weapons armor, among others... from different cultures during impressionism and post-impressionism. If you have a tight schedule I recommend you to plan which pieces of art you want to see before visiting the museum, check the map, use the app. If you intend to cover all the museum in detail it would be almost impossible to do it in one day.

A Must-Visit for History & Art Lovers! This art museum beautifully showcases the history and cultures of various countries and ancient civilizations. The exhibits are thoughtfully arranged, and the ambience truly immerses you in the past. Each section is rich with historical references, making it a great place for anyone interested in literature, heritage, and art. The museum is well-maintained and organized, which enhances the overall experience. One of the most inspiring highlights here is the section dedicated to Swami Vivekananda’s historic speech, which adds a spiritual and motivational touch to the experience. It’s truly moving to stand in a place that reflects his message of unity, peace, and cultural pride. Do note that weekends can get a bit crowded, so visiting on a weekday is ideal if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. Overall, a wonderful place to learn, explore, and appreciate world cultures.

I visited here at 10 AM with a member who is a resident of Chicago. Members can visit early from 10 AM to 11 AM. If you have a friend or a family member who lives in Chicago and is a member, that is a great experience to learn what they like at the museum! There was a temporary exhibit at the museum for the drawing and prints room. I saw an Edward Munch lithograph of The Scream painting. I would recommend buying a ticket in advance and keeping the printout of your ticket or if you have it on your phone. They do require to see your ticket again to re-enter the museum if you go to the gift shop. I bought postcards to send to my family and will be writing out the postcards this afternoon. They also have nice insulated bags at the museum shop that you can use on your trip. There is an abundance of natural light in the lobby and many of the galleries. The only thing I have against this museum is that they charge for admission. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and our Minneapolis Institute of Art does not charge for admission for any patrons.

Natural history museum
The Field Museum, located in Chicago's Grant Park, is a state-of-the-art museum showcasing an extensive collection of natural history and anthropological artifacts from around the world. With over 40 million items on display, visitors can explore everything from dinosaur skeletons, including the famous T-Rex named Sue, to Egyptian mummies and ancient Mayan ruins. The museum also delves into geology, evolution, botany, archeology, and more.
I absolutely loved the Field Museum — it’s one of the most fascinating places I’ve ever visited. The dinosaur exhibits alone are worth the trip! Right when you walk into the Grand Hall, you’re greeted by Maximo, the giant titanosaur — it’s breathtaking to stand beneath something that massive. Then, of course, there’s the legendary Sue, the world-famous Tyrannosaurus rex. Seeing such a complete and beautifully preserved T. rex skeleton up close was an unforgettable experience. The exhibit around Sue is amazing — with fossils from the Cretaceous period, like triceratops skulls, ancient plants, shark teeth, and other creatures that help you imagine what life looked like millions of years ago. The murals and life-sized displays make it feel like the dinosaurs have come back to life right in front of you. Beyond the dinosaurs, the museum is full of incredible things — ancient Egyptian artifacts, mummies, sparkling gemstones, meteorites, and wildlife dioramas from all around the world. Every gallery has something that completely pulls you in. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and even the café and gift shop were nice spots to take a break and soak in everything we’d just seen. Honestly, if you’re ever in Chicago, the Field Museum is an absolute must-see. It’s a place where history truly comes alive.

Such a cool museum! This is a must go to in Chicago. The exhibits are in depth and there are so many fossils, you definitely don’t want to miss going here. Some of the exhibits are closed off unless you pay extra to go in but other than that the rest of the museum is open to wander. There’s also multiple cafeteria/restaurant areas to grab a bite to eat at. I went on a Sunday morning and it wasn’t crowded at all and I was able to cover most of the museum in a couple of hours. From bugs to dinosaurs, this museum has it all!

We visited The Field Museum in Chicago and had such a great time! We used the Chicago CityPASS, which made entry quick and easy — highly recommend it. The museum is massive and full of fascinating exhibits, so you can easily spend the whole day exploring. We only stayed for about 2.5 hours because of other plans, but there’s definitely enough to keep you busy for longer. The highlight for us was SUE the T. rex, an absolute must-see! The Ancient Egypt exhibit with mummies and artifacts was another favorite — super cool and well curated. The museum also has plenty of seating areas and clean restrooms, which make the visit comfortable. There are several food options available; we tried the bagel and burger — both were good, though nothing too special. The souvenir shops have a wide variety of items, perfect for gifts or keepsakes. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place was very clean and organized. Another great perk of the CityPASS is that it includes one special paid exhibition for free, which adds even more value. Overall, The Field Museum is a must-visit Chicago attraction — educational, fun, and perfect for visitors of all ages!

🦖 My Visit to the Field Museum, Chicago The Field Museum of Natural History is a must-visit for anyone in Chicago! Located on the Museum Campus near Lake Michigan, it’s one of the largest natural history museums in the world, offering a fascinating journey through the planet’s past and present. The museum’s star attraction is Sue, the largest and most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton ever discovered — it’s absolutely awe-inspiring! I also enjoyed the Evolving Planet exhibit, which traces life on Earth from the earliest organisms to modern species. Other highlights include Ancient Egypt, with its beautifully preserved artifacts and mummies, and Cultural Halls, which explore the traditions and lives of people from around the world. The museum is very well-organized, with informative displays, interactive stations, and knowledgeable staff who make the visit engaging for both adults and children. 📍 Tips for Visitors: • Buy tickets online to skip the queue. • Allocate at least 3–4 hours for a complete experience. • Don’t miss the Inside Ancient Egypt and Evolving Planet exhibits. • Combine your visit with nearby Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium for a full Museum Campus day. Had a fantastic time. Very fast entry. We paid for all the extra exhibits and it was well worth it. The staff members were super friendly especially inside the exhibits. They would come up and give us facts about what we were looking at. We ate lunch there and the cafe prices were a little high but well worth it. Highly recommend for any trip to Chicago.

By far the best natural history museum we have ever been to! There are so many original artifacts and such a huge variety - it definitely takes longer than a day to get a good look at everything on display. It was also cool getting to see the world's most complete T-Rex as well as one of the 13 archaeopteryx fossils ever found.

Zoos & Aquariums
Lincoln Park Zoo is a small, free zoo located near Lake Michigan in Chicago. It offers a diverse range of animal exhibits, including lions, primates, reptiles, and a children's area with an interactive farm exhibit. Visitors can observe snow monkeys relaxing in the hot springs of the Regenstein Macaque Forest and marvel at gorillas and chimpanzees in the expansive Regenstein Center for African Apes. The Pepper Family Wildlife Center features big cats separated by glass windows for safe viewing.
Great free city zoo. Took the train uptown and explored the entire park in just a couple hours. The lion and gorilla enclosures were so spacious and great. Loved seeing so many animals outside enjoying the crisp October air.

What a beautiful zoo, filled with a wide variety of animals! Admission is free for everyone. Exploring the entire zoo and all its sections will take at least 4 to 5 hours. The zoo features multiple observation decks and several areas dedicated to the same species. Some viewing spots are indoors, while others are outdoors, thoughtfully designed to comfortably accommodate large crowds simultaneously.

Enjoyed our visit to the Lincoln Park Zoo during their ZooLights display. It was our first visit, and was a positive experience. We marveled at the work and preparation of the displays and at $7/person it was affordable. The lighting displays were beautiful and impressive. Even though it is geared toward families we enjoyed it as a group of 5 adults with no children in attendance. As first-time visitors it was a little confusing to navigate through the zoo in the dark. We also were impressed with how courteous the attendees were and respectful. It was a highlight to see the lions, chimpanzee, the rhinoceros, and some reptiles. Thanks to all who make it possible!

This Zoo has some good collection of Animals. They have a bunch of lions and some of them are interesting to watch. Each male lion has got multiple female lions to chill with. They have enough space for all the lions and the big viewing glass from inside the building allows visitors to enjoy a closer view of these amazing animals.

The Chicago Zoo Lights is an absolutely magical experience and one of the best ways to kick off the holiday season. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with vibrant displays, festive music, and a warm, cheerful atmosphere that instantly puts you in the holiday spirit. The lights are beautiful—thoughtfully arranged, creative, and perfect for photos. The layout is easy to navigate, and even on busy nights the event feels well-organized. Families, couples, and friends of all ages can enjoy everything from glowing tunnels and themed displays to seasonal snacks and hot drinks that keep you warm as you explore. One of the highlights is how the zoo blends holiday charm with its natural setting, giving visitors a chance to see select animals while enjoying the lights. It’s a great value, a fun tradition, and a must-see Chicago winter attraction. Whether you're looking for a cozy date night, a family outing, or simply a festive escape, Chicago Zoo Lights delivers a memorable and joyful experience every year.

What a gem in the city. I always love going there, and went for my first Zoo Lights this year after living in or near the city my whole life. It was an excellent experience, and I got to see way more animals than I had expected. I even got to see the lions play, something I've never seen in all my years of attendance.
April R — Google review
Free zoo in Chicago with great atmosphere. We got there around 3:30 pm and saw the North side of the zoo before dusk. We had great timing. Heard the lions roar, saw the brown bears, heard the kookaburra laugh, and a giraffe. We hto there at Duke when animals were active and some were being fed. Left and the city lights were a great backdrop.
Johnni Z — Google review
Great very historical zoo. Can’t recommend it enough. First of all the setting is beautiful! All of the brick historical buildings in the nice park is perfect. Very unique as well for someone who is visiting from the south, where most of our zoos are more modern. Beyond that they do a lot with the space packing a lot of well cared for animals in the urban setting. Highlights for me was the seal pool and lion house. The lion exhibit was very big. Had a lot of impressive viewing areas and was super interactive and engaging. The seal show is also a must do. It’s not a traditional “sea world” style show with flips and tricks but was instead part of their care routine. Which is great to see the animals showcased while not being exploited. The only downside was the primate house. Not enough to dock it a star but some of the monkeys had no access to outside areas. They still seemed well cared for and happy just a little sad that they don’t get a lot of natural light. With that being said, they clearly have expanded these habitat in a lot of places and improved welfare a lot over the past couple decades. The gibbons do have an indoor outdoor habitat and it would be good to see this design philosophy expanded to the other small primates. On the other hand the gorilla and chimp habitat was very well designed, with lots of open space and a clear focus on animals welfare. Another slight criticism is the website says the zoo opens at 8 but the large majority of the animals are not let out until 10. Also no buildings are open until 10. So don’t really arrive that early. I got up super early to try and get a good start but ended up having to waste time while we waited. Don’t miss the children’s zoo either. The bear was awesome and the red wolves are very rare. Also tried to see the beaver but he was sleeping. Definitely a must do, even if you only in Chicago for a few days.

Located on the southern end of Grant Park along Lake Michigan's shoreline, Shedd Aquarium is a renowned indoor aquarium in Chicago. It houses an impressive 32,000 animals representing diverse aquatic habitats from around the world. Visitors can marvel at sea otters, seahorses, beluga whales, reef sharks, and Giant Pacific octopus among other fascinating creatures. The aquarium offers educational experiences and emphasizes conservation efforts.
🐠 My Visit to Shedd Aquarium, Chicago Visiting the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago was an unforgettable experience — a perfect blend of education, entertainment, and wonder. Located along Chicago’s Museum Campus, the aquarium is home to thousands of aquatic species from around the world, from colorful tropical fish to majestic sharks, sea turtles, and playful penguins. The Oceanarium is a highlight, where you can see dolphins, beluga whales, and sea otters in action. The Amazon Rising exhibit transported me to the heart of the rainforest, showcasing exotic freshwater species in an immersive environment. I also loved the Caribbean Reef and the Wild Reef exhibits, which offer stunning views of coral reefs and vibrant marine life. The aquarium is very visitor-friendly with clear signage, interactive displays, and feeding sessions that make the experience engaging for both adults and children. We visited Shedd Aquarium in Chicago last July and had a really nice experience! We used the Chicago CityPASS, which made entry easier, but note that reservations are required — we booked about a month in advance. We got the earliest time slot, which helped avoid large crowds, though there was still a short line when we arrived about 15 minutes before opening. The aquarium is clean, well-organized, and perfect for families with kids. There’s a wide variety of marine animals and exhibits, from colorful fish to penguins and jellyfish. We also watched the Penguin 4D documentary — it was okay, not amazing but still a fun experience. There are food options inside, though we didn’t try them during our visit. We stayed for about 2.5 hours, but you could easily spend longer if you explore everything. My only small wish is that there were more seating areas for resting between exhibits. Overall, Shedd Aquarium is an interesting and educational place to visit in Chicago — great for both adults and kids!
Katrina ( — Google review
I came to Shedds aquarium before when I was a kid and the new exhibits were great. It took me a bit of time to find my way to the different floors. The elevators did not stop at every level and there was no single staircase that went to every floor. I was able to catch the dolphin show and it was great to see the dolphins jump. I enjoyed seeing the arapaima in the rainforest section. We sat and wanted the penguins for a good while too. I was happy to find the menu I found online was not complete which meant the person in my group with a wheat allergy had a few more options than I had expected.

Shedd Aquarium is fantastic. I hadn’t been here for years, and I had forgotten how grand the entrance room is, although I’m always making a beeline to see the fish and other creatures, so possibly I just missed it. Glad I took a moment to admire it this visit. The employees went above and beyond. I hadn’t bought tickets ahead of time, but it was fast and easy to get tickets at one of the kiosks in a little building just before the entrance. I went on a Monday afternoon, so it might make sense to buy tickets ahead of time on a busier day.

If you could only visit one attraction in Chicago, which would it be? If it was the Shed Aquarium, it would be a grand day. I have been blessed to be able to visit the Shed countless times over the years. Growing up it was always exiting to hear, “we are going to the Shed Aquarium”. Ah to reminisce on the feeling of wandering the Shed as a kid, with no real world responsibilities on your mind. As an adult, I was reminded of how other worldly it can be. You really can imagine a different world where everything glows. And you wonder what else exists in that world!! In my last visit, I was cycling the Illinois shoreline, and stoped in just because I had the time. And needed a rest. It was the best cycling break. I would suggest to the public to considered the museum campus for momentary visits, not just as day outings. It feels cathartic for me to pause for a moment where we habitually don’t get to visit. Especially on your own, it’s exciting. I do have one question for the Shed. After observing the motion of a variety of sea life, I left wondering how does each wildlife in the water experience tripping differently? Or are the symptoms the same for all water life?

What an amazing aquarium! We really enjoyed our time here. We learned that we should not have gone on a weekend - it was so crowded! But we still had a great time. I especially liked seeing the "babies" that were hatched in the past few months, near the Plankton display. The dolphin show was really cool, too. We also appreciated the conservationist teachings regarding ocean plastic and regarding the coral reefs. Highly recommend a visit to this amazing place.

This Aquarium is a must go to while in Chicago!! There’s such a variety of sea creatures and animals to see, you don’t want to miss it. Be sure to catch one of the shows while you’re there, I saw the Dolphin show when I went. The Beluga Whale exhibit was my favorite part, I definitely spent the most time there. The Cuttlefish tank was also a highlight for me. There’s also a lot of interactive areas for kids and lots of helpful workers and volunteers that help answer any questions you may have.

We went to the Shedd Aquarium and honestly had such a good time. The exhibits are awesome — the big reef tank with the diver feeding the fish was super cool, and the Wild Reef section (with sharks and that huge sawfish) was my favorite. The dolphin presentation was way more educational than cheesy, which I appreciated, and we took a ton of photos. The tickets are a bit expensive, but overall we had a blast and would absolutely go again…

The husband-and-wife team behind the restaurant also runs The Loyalist, which focuses on farm-fresh fare, and Smyth, an upscale eatery with a Michelin star. Smyth offers ingredient-focused dishes like Dungeness crab with saltwater-poached foie gras and scrambled kani miso.
The team at Alinea really put on a fantastic show—it was one of the most joyful Michelin meals we’ve had. Every course had its own little secret, and the overall experience was full of surprises. That said, while the performance and creativity far exceeded our expectations, the food itself was a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor. The dishes tasted good, but I’d rate them at a lower-tier Michelin two-star level. Still, there were standouts: the salmon and the liquid-nitrogen-frozen ice cream at the end were both truly impressive, and easily the highlights of the night from a taste perspective.

This may be the most exciting meal I’ve ever eaten. It’s a place where spoilers should not be shared so I’ll withhold much of the experience, but Grant Achatz and his team delivers one of the most extraordinary dining experiences possibly anywhere on the planet. I was able to secure a seat at the Gallery after a last minute cancellation, and while I cannot speak to the experience at the Salon, I would highly encourage trying the Gallery if you are at all fortunate enough to be able to make the reservation. The whole night was an experience straight out of The Menu (except you get to go home at the end of the night). There’s a lot of talk saying Alinea’s not able to top the creativity that they used to be famed for, but if this is your first time and having had the experience before, I would argue it’s worth experiencing for yourself since it would still obviously be a fresh new experience for you. That said, if I ever have the chance, I would personally do this all over again.

An absolutely amazing experience. I would highly recommend you go as a group to get full advantage of what they offer. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience for most. Food was out of this world and so unique. The experience was even better. Definitely a special occasion type place.

My first return after visiting 10 years ago. While the presentation has changed, the quality of the experience has not. My companion and I agreed on two areas for improvement. First, the arrival experience is not optimal. With the Gallery experience, most people arrive a few minutes prior to the service time. There were 12 of us jammed into the foyer area. Also, the staff were friendly and professional but seemed stressed and a bit disorganized, creating a less relaxed atmosphere. Chef Achatz was notably in Japan on this date, so perhaps that was part of it. Our Fossil "toolkit" was missing some items- a rare missed detail. This was quickly corrected. The food has gotten even more inventive and the Gallery is an amazing culinary adventure. Alinea remains an unparalleled experience.

Absolutely phenomenal. The entire staff was welcoming and fun. They all had a special flare that they added to each dish. Lots of surprises and whimsy! Highly recommend. Well, worth the money.

What a unique experience. I went knowing almost nothing and I loved how I was constantly surprised by the creativity of the team in how they present the food, combine the flavors and and create a roller coaster experience. I'm adding pictures to my review for myself, but I strongly recommend to avoid spoilers before visiting.

Alinea was a bucket list place for me. The food and staff were excellent. The quality, and artistry really make a one of a kind experience. Special mention to Rizqi, who really went above and beyond to make our visit to Chicago that much better. Would love to come again.

American restaurant
Boka is a stylish and modern American cuisine restaurant located in Lincoln Park, Chicago. It has been a part of the BOKA Restaurant Group since 2003 and is known for its seasonally driven menus sourced from local farms. The restaurant offers an intimate dining experience with three dining rooms and a candlelit back garden patio. Executive chef Lee Wolen, who took over in 2013, brings a highly technical yet approachable touch to the reimagined menu.
What an experience! They were running about 30 minutes behind on reservations when we arrived but once we sat down, everything picked up and was incredible. Jesse was our waiter and he did so good. The 3 of us did the 8 course tasting menu and were around until close to 11PM. His energy was HIGH. He made the night fun and enjoyable. The food was incredible as well. The best piece of fish and best pasta I've ever eaten. It was well worth the food. I also do not like wine. However, I am happy to say I had 8 glasses of really good wine with my food. It might have changed my perspective. Really well done dinner and service. Highly recommend.

We had a wonderful evening at Boka in Chicago. From the very first moment, the atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable dinner — stylish interior, pleasant music, and attentive service created a truly welcoming experience. Every dish was exceptional: both the meat and the fish were cooked to perfection, preserving their natural flavors while adding refined accents in the presentation. The oysters were particularly impressive — the combination of raspberry, basil, and coffee turned out to be unexpected, yet harmonious and sophisticated. The beef tartare was simply one of the best we’ve ever tried — perfectly balanced in flavor, with excellent texture and a presentation that highlighted the attention to detail. Boka is not just a restaurant, it’s a true gastronomic experience. You can feel the high level of the cuisine and the creative, author-driven approach in every dish. We highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates new flavors, unique combinations, and impeccable quality.

From the moment we stepped into Boka, the experience was nothing short of captivating. The atmosphere is elegant and intimate, a perfect backdrop for what turned out to be a memorable evening. Our waiter, Fernando, set the tone with his warm and attentive service. He guided us through the menu with genuine care and made every course feel special. Pedro kept our table refreshed and spotless, ensuring our water glasses never went empty while maintaining a subtle, professional presence. Matty was a delightful detail, oriented touch, always making sure our napkins were perfectly folded and the table remained pristine. Kyle added a personable charm, making us feel welcome and cared for throughout the evening. The food itself was simply extraordinary, each dish exceeded expectations with layers of flavor and beautiful presentation. From the first bite to the last, it was a true culinary journey. The wine and cocktail selections paired beautifully, offering something for every palate and enhancing the dishes even further. That said, for a Michelin-starred restaurant, there is still room to elevate the service to match the world-class level of the cuisine. While every member of the team was kind and attentive, a little more refinement and seamless coordination would make the experience absolutely flawless. Overall, Boka shines as a Chicago gem, a place where artistry, creativity, and hospitality come together. We highly recommend it for anyone seeking an unforgettable fine-dining experience, and we look forward to returning again soon.

Wow, what an incredible meal. From the moment we walked in, everything at Boka was top-notch. Every plate that came out was almost too beautiful to eat, but I'm glad we did! The flavors in every dish were just amazing. We started with the caviar and it was the perfect kickoff to the dinner. And I have to say, don't sleep on the chicken dish. I know it sounds simple, but it was genuinely my favorite thing we ordered all night, cooked perfectly. The vibe is great for a special night out, and the cocktails were fantastic. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Everyone was so friendly, and their wine suggestions were spot on, which made the whole experience even better. We had an unforgettable night. Boka is definitely worth it for a special occasion. 5 stars, easily!

Only had availability at the bar for our reservation for 2 but we certainly were well taken care of anyway. The bartender was helpful with ordering and our plates arrived from servers who explained them. For us, the duck breast and the scallops were the best. The halibut the least amazing. Oysters were great. The bill was >$500 but that’s what we expected.

Great Michelin star restaurant! We started with the smoothie king mocktail and chicken liver mousse. Then they came out with unlimited bread buns that were super soft and warm (on the house). The bread was salted on top and came with a whipped creamy butter. I got the ribs. They were cooked perfectly and MELTED in your mouth. I’d recommend having a side with it since the meat was rich. My husband got the duck with the duck heart sausages. It was the best duck he’s had! Then they gave us complimentary birthday desserts too. It was a great atmosphere and we appreciated that it wasn’t too loud for a Friday night. The quality of food here was unlike any other! Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I decided to pick a contemporary place from the Michelin site and this place did not disappoint. We sat at the bar because we generally appreciate a less formal atmosphere. The bartender was exceptional. Friendly, witty, knowledgeable, and conversational. The food was fabulous. Not a dull moment to say the least. The Summer 2025 menu is well thought out and we left absolutely stuffed. I would go here again without a doubt!

In town for meetings and was recommended to try Boka. My favorite was the duck of course. Most flavors seemed to lean acidic, sometimes a tad overly acidic but the good far outweighed the bad. Everything was beautifully plated and presented. By the end of the tasting I was truly full, but then there was like 3 kinds of additional desserts! Blew my mind.

New American restaurant
Smyth is a rustic-chic restaurant owned by the husband-and-wife team John Shields and Karen Urie Shields. The venue offers inventive New American fare and wine pairings through constantly rotating tasting menus. The restaurant's exclusive grow partner is a 20-acre farm, from which they source fruits, vegetables, nuts, chickens, eggs, honey, and syrup. Executive Chef John B.
We had a great dinner here. A few dishes blew my mind or taste buds. The staff were so friendly and attentive. My mom's hot water was always filled and hot. When the staff told us about each dish, they seemed so passionate and excited about us eating it, not like they are just reciting words. They made sure our food was perfect in presentation. This was the best wine pairing I have ever had!! I loved how well they complemented the flavors of the dishes. Highly recommend.

I’ll start with the positives; the ambience, service, and staff were excellent. We enjoyed every interaction and conversation. Also, you can see how hard everyone on staff works to ensure an amazing dining experience. That said, maybe we had unrealistic expectations given Smyth earned a third star. Our first time at Smyth, a few years back, was special and spectacular but, this time, the food just wasn’t as delicious or memorable. Despite that, the entire experience was special and memorable largely due to the exceptional staff and service.

I thoroughly enjoyed my restaurant experience here! The service from the waiters were excellent and ambience were nice. The food was crafted expertly and although there were a couple of dishes I didn’t vibe with I still enjoyed experiencing them. Each wine paired nicely with the courses and were the perfect pour. Everything just flowed naturally the entire evening. There were more dishes than what I’m posting but go try for yourself! I’m glad I was able to try this spot out in Chicago!

Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish.  This was our second visit to a three star restaurant and it did not disappoint. Loved the more open format kitchen and being able to both see and hear staff working. It really helps bring the entire experience together seeing the whole thing work like a well choreographed ballet. Dishes were well plated and constructed to the level I'd expect of a place like this and they were able to easily accommodate my tree nut allergy. Favorite dish was the avocado with cucumber slush,  everything just came together so well and I wish I could have bigger bowl of it. None of the dishes were bad,  though I think the quail egg and liver patte could have been a bit better.  The patte ended up largely stuck to the plate and I felt like there was one flavor note that was missing but it's hard to pin down what could fill it. Overall Smyth is very worth the visit if you can fit it into your budget.  You will not be disappointed.

We had a wonderful evening at Smyth this summer. The menu was refreshingly creative, with several dishes capturing the essence of the season—especially those featuring floral notes. Our favorite was the lobster box, which was easily one of the most flavorful dishes we’ve ever had. The service was exceptional, and the beautifully presented courses complemented the vibrant flavors perfectly. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

Absolutely loved my experience at Smyth. The food was fantastic. Some truly tasty seafood and great use of fall ingredients like squash, pumpkin, mushrooms, and chestnuts. I found a lot of the dishes to be quite creative, with great textures, fun flavors, and unique preparation. More than a couple dishes were unlike anything I had tried before (in a good way). Service was also excellent. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. My new favorite 3 star restaurant in the US.
Jeremiah H — Google review
Smyth is exactly what you should expect from a decent 3-star that is grounded in its roots, but bold enough to take some risks. The classics such as the Quail Egg are amazing. Some risks such as the Lamb Brain donut, however, did not work out. I have a shellfish aversion and was served peas twice as the main ingredient of two different dishes, which is a classic no-no in high level fine dining. However, I could forgive these because there were several standout dishes such as the caviar in walnut oil/haznelnut butter, the milk bread, and the banana dessert. The service is outstanding and atmosphere is nice. I think Symth is around the minimum of what I would expect to be pleased with a 3-star experience.

Smyth is an amazing celebration of American fine dining. They do a phenomenal job with seafood. It is quite a surprise since they are far away from the oceans. The best dishes are Dungeness crab and Maine sea urchin. Service is excellent. Wine list is great. Interior is beautiful and cozy.

Girl & The Goat is a popular spot in Chicago, known for its innovative small plates served from an open kitchen. Since its opening in 2010, the restaurant has aimed to provide a family-style menu of bold flavored foods with global influences in a lively and fun setting. The extensive menus cater to various preferences, and the staff is dedicated to creating the perfect dining experience for every guest.
We recently celebrated our anniversary at Girl and the GOAT. I included that it was our anniversary on the reservation, and they made our night truly special! Our menu was printed with “Happy Anniversary” at the top, and they brought us a little dessert with candles in it at the end. Every dish we ordered was sublime. We had the grilled oysters, chickpea fritters, green beans (truly the best green beans I’ve ever eaten!), and the goat empanadas. Our server was perfectly attentive and the courses were paced just right. Would definitely return here next time we are in Chicago!

Just finished dinner here and it was an amazing experience. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, and the food was outstanding. The roasted pig face in particular was a standout dish—rich in flavor and cooked perfectly. On top of that, the staff went the extra mile and even brought us an additional small dish, which was such a thoughtful touch. Service throughout the night was excellent and made us feel very well taken care of. For everything we ordered, plus drinks, the total with tip came out to just around $100, which felt like a fantastic deal given the quality and experience. If you’re visiting Chicago, this restaurant should be at the very top of your list. Highly recommended!

What an amazing meal! Girl & the Goat absolutely delivered on flavor, creativity, and ambiance. Every dish was a masterclass in balance. Spices were dialed in just right, and the flavors danced between sweet, spicy, savory, and earthy in a way that kept us reaching for more. From the first bite to the last, it was clear that the kitchen knows how to layer complexity without overwhelming the palate. The ingredients felt fresh, the presentation was thoughtful, and the vibe of the place added to the whole experience. It’s the kind of spot where you can taste the passion in every plate.

One of the 3 top culinary experiences of 2025. It was my father birthday, and he wanted to eat a pork knuckle. 🤷‍♀️ The only place in Chicago that was serving it and was open on Tuesday was Girl and the Goat. Making reservation on the same day we only were able to get an outdoor seating, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We were promptly greeted and seated. The restaurant runs " family style" ordering system, when small dishes are ordered and shared between customers. We ordered tomato salad, goat confirmed, pork shank. The garbanzo and goat cheese appetizer was a compliment from a chef to my father. Every dish was a masterpiece, with flavors adding to each other to male each dish unique. The tomato salad dressing is very original and complimenting heirloom tomatoes perfectly. The garbanzo and goat cheese was very unexpectedly good. The goat confiit was mind blowing. Even my father, who doesn't eat goat at all, devoured half of it . The pork knuckle was crispy outside and melting in the mouth on the inside. I honestly think this place deserves at least one Michelin star. If ever again in Chicago, we will dine here again.

Really delicious meal in a warm ambience. As a solo diner, I appreciated that they were able to offer a selection of dishes as half portions so that I could try more things. I was also seated almost immediately as I'd made a reservation. I ordered the stout bread, green beans (1/2 portion), chickpea fritters (1/2 portion) and pumpkin spice cake. Everything was excellent. The stout bread was fluffy, vaguely sweet, and paired beautifully with the pimento cheese. The green beans were perfectly cooked and umami. The chickpea fritters were my favorite dish, unique and just fantastic. My waiter recommended the pumpkin spice cake for dessert, and while I felt extremely basic for ordering it, the cake was sensational. Relating this dish to anything starbucks produces would be an insult. Overall I found my meal here worth the splurge.

My food here was just absolutely amazing! I love the family style servings. We ate outside because inside was a bit noisy. Our server Efrain was phenomenal! Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I also loved how when each course was served the person serving the course gave us a description. I can't wait to go back!

Delicious and enjoyable! The room has a great ambiance for a date, business meeting, or almost any occasion. I had the chance to sit at the "chef's table" with a view directly towards the flames and prep areas. The staff were friendly and professional and every dish I watched be prepared was gorgeous. My own meal was full of flavors that packed a punch and showed the skill and care behind the menu. You are able to order a few items as a half-order to allow yourself to best sample multiple dishes, which I found to be genius - especially when dining alone. Worth a reservation and a spot on your itinerary, it's that good.

Everything was amazing. The food was INCREDIBLE. The atmosphere was cozy but the service was warm and friendly. My only regret is not going with more people so I could order or try more things. I definitely recommend a reservation. Even if you have to eat at an off time, it's worth it!

Monteverde Restaurant & Pastificio is a highly acclaimed and popular spot in West Loop, known for its refined contemporary Italian cuisine and global wine selection.
What a place, what an atmosphere, what a food and what a service. we went there in our trip to chicago, loving the west loop and stoped by for lunch at Monteverde, we sat outside and the weather was perfect and we enjoyed a proper lunch, with a nice bottle of white wine. finished off with some dessert and montenegro for digestive. Johnny served us beyond perfect, looked after us in the best way possible and made it memorable. my friend was visiting from UK and we had the best time. will come back everytime in chicago for sure.

I’ve now had the pleasure of dining here three times and not once did it disappoint. The food is beyond excellent. The service is wonderful. The ambiance is perfect. Is this my favorite spot in all Chicago? Considering I’ve taken morning flights from Boston just to eat here and fly home later in the night not once but twice now definitely is a resounding yes. I love you, Monteverde. ALSO do not sleep o the tiramisu. I honestly don’t like tiramisu and yet somehow this one from Monteverde become one of my all time favorite deserts PERIOD. INSANELY perfect!

Absolutely gorgeous vibe and very friendly service. Great appetizer and pasta. We had a great time here! The only thing is that we wish the tiramisu is more traditional style (meaning more coffee/cocoa flavor and less sweet). Pasta mista is great, but the tomato sauces it a bit bitter tasting. But overall we liked it!

I've been trying to get a dinner rez for a while at this James Beard award winner. It so happens they, unlike many delicious dinner destinations, do lunch. So why not meet for a girl's lunch with my bestie! I was not disappointed. Perfect martinis! Amazing appetizers and perfect pasta. The arancini were spiced perfected with a touch of heat and I still dream about the Waygu steak skewers. The Cacio Whey Pepe fusilloni with pecorino medoro, lemon ricotta whey, four peppercorn blend 27 and add 5 grams fresh burgundy truffle . It was creamy and perfect. The October special was truly unique. Cannelloni Saltimbocca "potstickers" stuffed with harissa braised lamb, prosciutto, soffritto, sage, caper, manchego and fonduta. The flavors were insane! Yep, I'm going back for dinner!!

Wow! What an amazing experience! I came here for a work dinner and they were absolutely wonderful. I am vegan, and the prepared an entire separate menu for me which is SO thoughtful! Everything tasted exquisite, ESPECIALLY the roasted brussels sprouts (which I forgot to take a picture of!) Brett was our server and he was fantastic. All of the waitstaff was so attentive and kind, making the evening that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend Monteverde to anyone looking for a delicious meal and a great atmosphere!

Monteverde has my heart 💚 we came to celebrate our anniversary and were greeted with champagne. What a start 😚 We were visiting from out of town and I camped this reservation the month before. Spots go fast so I would really be on it. We started with the famous burrata e ham, which made such fun little sammies. I could bathe in that prosciutto butter. The peach and tomato salad was EXQUISITE, beautiful textures, but I think a summer seasonal. Shrimp scampi was spicier than I expected but I’m a spice wimp, great flavours. The pastas were all pretty good, fave was the corn with truffle that was the Sept anniversary special. By dessert we were bursting, but we still got the tiramisu and do not regret it. Our server (brunette gentleman with great wavy hair) was knowledgeable, passionate about the menu and lots of fun. Wish we lived here so we could go back sooner. But had a meal to remember 🥰😍

I chose this place as a bday gift for a friend. She enjoyed the meal and drinks. I loved my drinks and the food ! Was a good place. I think on a hot day the temp inside might be stifling but if there is a breeze and the large glass doors are open you might be okay. Truffle bread, pasta, all of it. Just superb. Try and get a more spacious table because if you like roominess you might be pressed here. It also struggles with some volume control. Acoustics might be hard with people who have sensitive ears or who have aids. The hosts were wonderful. From the time we walked in until we left and meandered the neighborhood. Finding a table is the hardest thing but once you are here you won’t complain.
