Sights & Landmarks
Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat, established in 1744, stands as a magnificent testament to Javanese history and culture. Once the heart of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom, this royal palace offers visitors an immersive journey through time. The complex features various sections like Alun Alun Lor and Sasana Sumewa, where you can explore museums filled with captivating artifacts such as sculptures and traditional costumes.
One of the relics of the ancient kingdom in Surakarta. Still well maintained. The addition of guards or courtiers in full dress makes it more instagramable. Unfortunately I couldn't see inside, so I don't know what the actual condition of the palace is.

I am sorry Solo but this is the worst ever. I had high expectations visiting the place but you let me down. Admission cost of IDR 35k is too high with what I have been experiencing; I felt being robbed. Guide was provided however you need to join with the others; I thought the guide was for myself only. The museum section is so old and feels like it is not being well maintained. The other area for explore is kind of garden surrounded by the “pendopo”. That’s it. No more exploration area. I prefer Jogja than Solo; visiting Keraton wise.
Richard T — Google review
Solo Keraton is still in an active palace in Solo, the King and Queen still live in this place, but tourist can go only visit some parts of the palace which is the backyard. If you are willing to visit, better bring fan, umbrella, sunscreen and use shoes. Don’t use sandal, because they will ask you to take off and walk barefoot inside the keraton.
Novita W — Google review
The official Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace residence of the Kasunanan Surakarta located in the heart of Solo City, blends traditional Javanese architecture with subtle European touches. Inside, a museum displays royal heirlooms, golden chariots, traditional attire, and historical collections from past kings. Stepping into the palace grounds, you are immediately greeted by a serene and sacred atmosphere. Friendly guides share stories from each room, making the visit more meaningful. The collection is impressive, although certain parts of the building could use more maintenance. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and follow the rules, such as refraining from entering restricted areas or taking photos in prohibited spots. The soft sound of gamelan music and the lingering scent of aged wood in every corner add to the magical charm. Despite minor shortcomings, the historical value and unique atmosphere make the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace well worth visiting—especially for history and culture enthusiasts who wish to experience the living heritage of a Javanese kingdom firsthand.
Navisya D — Google review
If you'd like to learn more about the history of Surakarta (Solo) during the kingdom period, I recommend visiting this Royal Palace (Keraton). They provide a guided tour experience where you'll be able to see the Palace's Courtyard, Museum, and Event Hall. The Palace has many more inner areas however it's restricted for tourists; mostly those are the private residences of the Royal Family Members. If you're wearing sandals, you need to take them off and explore the Palace Yard barefoot, but shoes are allowed (not sure the thought process behind it). Sarong is provided for those who are wearing shorts or skirts to cover up. Tickets: IDR 35k for locals, IDR 60k for foreigners, and additional IDR 50k if you bring a professional camera. Open from 09 AM - 3 PM daily.

the place is nice for solitude time, its quite. just sit under the tree would relax ur muscle. they offer water from their well and give it free, bring ur tumbler! the guide would give u alot of information. nice place for for grounding on their yard (they use beach sand)
Movi R — Google review
This was a big disappointment compared to Pura Mangkunagaran: a guide who rushed us through the place, with little knowledge about this palace except what the travel guide told us already before we arrived. Hefty price for the entry (50k/person) - cash only!
Ralf K — Google review
This palace is such a beautiful one, as you can see they don't even change a thing of the building and it's still traditional also beautiful ✨ you can really feel different energy here where it's very positive and calming one, especially when you're going inside the Keraton area with all the trees around. The museum also look super traditional and our tour guide was super smart and friendly, he explained everything clearly and not boring at all✨

Visitors can explore various antique stores without feeling pressured to make purchases. The market is known for its diverse collection of nostalgic items, making it a perfect place for those who appreciate Indonesian heritage.
I’ve visited Solo so many times, but it never crossed my mind to stop by Pasar Triwindu until now. This market is like stepping into a different era every corner is filled with historical antiques, from vintage lamps and delicate plates to beautifully aged vases that have been around for decades. The atmosphere feels timeless and full of stories waiting to be discovered. The whole place is so aesthetic, making it absolutely perfect for taking pictures and capturing the unique charm of Solo’s history. Honestly, I’ve completely fallen in love with this spot and can’t believe I didn’t come here sooner.

The city of Surakarta is very beautiful and very interesting not only is there the palace, the prince's palace and the king's palace with excellent things to see but also this antique market with lots of trinkets and old things, some of which are certainly real antiques, it's really interesting there were also old motorcycles and Honda Dreams from the 50s to the 90s he was selling a BMW from the 54s in perfect working order he tried it in front of me ... (I looked on the internet the value of this motorcycle between 5000 euros up to 12,000 euros in collector's condition ... he sold it for 2,500,000 rupees, that is to say 128 euros today) but he was not interested in taking steps to sell it otherwise! and so even if he knows its value because I told him it is still at 2,500,000 to take away 😅😅

I am fond of nostalgic things, especially things reflect the old time of Indonesia. At Pasar Triwindu, there are a lot of old things interesting to see, and most of the sellers don’t push you to buy things. If one day I have my own house in Indonesia, I will decorate the house with these antiques.

Museum Radya Pustaka is a charming 19th-century history museum that houses an impressive collection of historic artifacts and scrolls, showcasing weapons, textiles, manuscripts, sculpture, and currency. It is renowned for its heritage from the Mataram Kingdom and features notable items such as porcelain gifted by Napoleon Bonaparte to Paku Buwono IV, king of Surakarta kingdom.
Radya Pustaka Museum in Surakarta boasts a rich and comprehensive collection, offering a deep dive into Javanese history and culture. It provides a valuable educational experience for those interested in local heritage. However, the museum's maintenance could be improved, as some rooms feel damp and have a musty smell, which slightly diminishes the overall comfort for visitors. Despite this, the museum's impressive collection and educational value make it a worthwhile visit. Enhancing the maintenance of the facilities would further improve the experience for all visitors.
Yustika M — Google review
This museum has abundant number of collection. It is considered as one of the oldest museum in Indonesia which contains collections ranging from Javanese manuscripts to ancient Javanese statues. Many of the collection are a really valuable artifacts which important to the history of culture of Java or Indonesia as a whole. My favorite will be the sleeping Vishnu statue (Vishnu Anantasayana). The collections of wayang, and the bowsprit of Kasunanan Surakarta ships/boat. It is a shame that this museum are not well manage and the presentation is cannot exhibit the collections well. Many of the collections are also already stolen. Especially the collections from old Javanese era. At least the manuscripts are preserved well in a room with air conditioner. It would be great if there's a reform in the management.

Awesome museum housing the royal collection of one of the Kasunanan court, primarily assembled under Pakubuwono X in the early 20th cent. Interesting insight into Javanese court culture, including many puppets, instruments, daggers, pottery, furniture and even two gifts from Napoleon. There's also a large section of stone statuary from the Hindu-Buddhist era. Honestly more interesting than the Kraton itself. It's housed in a converted early 20th cent Dutch residence. Clean bathrooms and free drinking water. Entry is 20k for foreigners.

Kampung Wisata Batik Kauman is not very large, and the streets are fairly short and walkable. Tourists can find many photo spots and even rent traditional Solo attire. It’s a great place to buy batik clothing, from affordable pieces to high-end designer brands. There are also plenty of cafés and eateries around.

A wonderful and highly recommended place to visit! Kampung Batik Kauman Solo is a beautiful village with so many authentic batik creations. There are numerous photo spots throughout the area, making it a great place to capture memories. The craftsmanship is incredible, and you can truly feel the history and culture of batik here. A must-visit for anyone in Solo!

Kampung Batik Kauman is a great place to explore the traditional art of batik in Solo. The area is full of small batik shops and workshops where visitors can watch the batik-making process and buy authentic handmade products. The atmosphere is calm and traditional, with narrow alleys and old Javanese houses. Prices vary depending on the design and quality, but many shops offer reasonable deals for good quality batik. It’s a good spot for both shopping and learning about local culture. Just be prepared to walk around, as the alleys are quite narrow.

Kampung Batik Kauman is another must-visit icon in Surakarta! This place is easy to find, and even Grab can deliver or pick you up right inside the alley. There are many beautiful spots to take pictures, and there are even free props provided, like umbrellas, that can enhance your photos. You can also try your hand at traditional batik-making. The best part? It's completely free to visit, all you're asked to do is leave a review on Google and follow their Instagram account. It's definitely worth a visit!
Hamida R — Google review
There are lots of batik shops around, and the variety is great! You can find all kinds of patterns and materials—everything from classic to more modern styles. The fabric options are nice too, like cotton, silk, and rayon. What’s really awesome is that the prices are pretty affordable, so it’s easy to grab something for yourself or as a gift. Shopping here is fun because there’s so much to choose from, and most of the staff are friendly and helpful. If you’re into batik or just curious, it’s definitely a cool place to check out!

Solo's Bistro is a delightful culinary gem nestled in the heart of Solo, offering an exquisite blend of traditional Indonesian and international dishes that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. This charming eatery boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for food lovers seeking new experiences. The friendly service enhances the overall dining experience, ensuring guests feel right at home.
Solos Bistro offers an intriguing mix of flavors, and my recent visit was a pleasant dive into their Carbonara and Tom Yum dishes. The combination of Italian comfort and Thai zest on the menu reflects the restaurant's daring take on fusion cuisine. The Carbonara was rich and indulgent, featuring a creamy sauce that clung to perfectly cooked pasta. The balance of cheese, egg, and seasoning was spot-on, with crispy bits of smoked meat adding a delightful texture. While it leaned towards a more modern take rather than a traditional Roman recipe, it was satisfying and comforting—ideal for those seeking a hearty meal. The Tom Yum, on the other hand, delivered a bold punch of Thai flavors. The broth was tangy, spicy, and aromatic, brimming with fresh ingredients like lemongrass, lime, and chili. It had just the right amount of heat to warm your soul without overwhelming your palate. The addition of seafood was generous and cooked to perfection, making it a standout dish for fans of Southeast Asian cuisine. Solos Bistro excels in crafting dishes that feel familiar yet exciting, with thoughtful execution and quality ingredients. Whether you’re in the mood for creamy pasta or a fiery bowl of soup, this bistro won’t disappoint. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

we came on a Saturday night at half past 7 pm. not too crowded because we immediately got parking and a seat. started ordering at 18.36 and the order receipt was printed at 18.45. we had to wait almost 1 hour for the food to arrive. around 19.38 it just arrived, and that was only 1 of the 4 foods we ordered. we had to complain to the service, then our order was prioritized. the food just arrived completely around 19. 45. it's been too long waiting, disappointing because the food arrived cold. hopefully in the future there will be improvements. for those of you looking for fast service, I do not recommend eating here.

Nice place for dinner. Blending traditional ambience and fusion foods. Iga bakar melt in my mouth, recommended. Mix fried finger food good for starter, fried mushroom was really good. Coffee taste a bit off, not something to be recommended.

I think I dont like the atmosphere coz it is not bright. Too down tone. The lamp is too yellow, the table the chairs the wall.. is too dark. In the photo maybe it is not too dark, but if you are there, you ll understand what I mean. The food is ok. I ordered kwetiaw. It is hard to find yummy kwetiaw, this one too, too oily, and too salty. This place is introduced by a lot of ppl via tik tok. The food seems delicious in tik too, but i think it s just so so. The price is good, though. I visited here on Sunday at 11.15 am. No need to reserve a reservation if you come early. The parking lot is big but not that big.

Basically the food are good. Quite an extensive choices. I was expecting their food to be sweet after tasting the nachos, but apparently that was the exception. Their idea of nachos was getting a store bought packet of doritos and splash it with cheese sauce and local mayo. I am sorry but i can’t tolerate this. Other than this, the chicken chop, zuppa soup, and chicken bulgogi were as good as the meatballs. They were enjoyable. The lighting of the restaurant was too dim. Not a nice ambience when you go with the family as i saw some couples with their children ranging from toddler to young adults. But aside, everything was 👍. The place was filling up. Very busy. Must be a popular amongst the patrons in Solo.

We frequently choose this place for meetings with our colleagues due to its delightful cuisine, reasonable prices, and the pleasant ambiance found on both the first and second floors. The first floor, with its softer lighting, offers a more intimate setting that is well-suited for private discussions. The venue also provides ample parking space and enjoys a strategic location in the heart of Solo, making it highly convenient to visit. In the same way, Solo English Center offers not only quality programs but also a supportive and comfortable environment for those who wish to enhance their English skills in the heart of the city.

Saffron Resto & Meatshop is a charming restaurant with a vintage interior that sets a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a dinner date. It offers a delectable selection of Western dishes including steak, burgers, sandwiches, and an array of mouthwatering desserts such as choco lava and creme brulee. This place is known for its European cuisine and cozy ambiance. Guests rave about the flavorful spaghetti pesto topped with cheese and the special salmon steak with parmesan crust.
Always reliably good. You could order anything off the menu with your eyes closed and I guarantee it would be solid, not that they have a wide variety of menu anyway. Their dessert option is very limited, but all great. I don’t think beverage is their forte, though, so I would just recommend splurging on the food and dessert instead.

A pretty decent western restaurant in Solo, they have Chocolate Lava Cake, which is a great closer. The food are pretty good and fulfilling, you get the amount and taste of what you pay for, although I’d skip the soup entirely. The main entrees come with mashed potatoes and blend well with it, but you’re free to change it to other type of potatoes like fries.

Id read a previous review relating to food poisoning and decided to dismiss it and give this place a try. Unfortunately i shouldn't have bothered. I ordered the brunch omelette and my wife ordered chicken pasta. My omelette was VERY under cooked (raw) and a diarrhoea moment waiting to happen. My wife's pasta, the chicken had a very distinctive smell and she removed alll the chicken from her pasta. My food, no chance id be eating that! On top of that the mosquitoes in the restaurant had a better dining experience than me. I only stopped itching yesterday. Sad to say it but it wasn't a good experience.

We very rarely eat at the same place twice, and three times is unheard of especially ially when were traveling. But three times it was. The Peking duck medium rare is awesome. The steaks are great. Chicken peri peri is full of flavor, chicken broccoli pasta is rich. Sauces are excellent. Service is friendly and professional. Great place

There are plenty of options from appetizers to desserts, ranging from seafood, chicken, to beef. I tried the Gordon bleau, Angus steak, and ribs. The Angus steak was the best, perfectly seasoned, tender, with a delicious mushroom sauce served with mashed potatoes, although the mashed potatoes were a bit too creamy for my taste. The ribs were tasty, but nothing extraordinary. The Gordon bleau was just okay. Overall, it's recommended, especially considering the reasonable prices. Parking is available along the roadside. The seating capacity is not extensive, so it's advisable to make a reservation, especially during peak hours.

The menu here are very authentic with Java especially Solo culinary. It also has the dessert or appetizer with the local culinary menu. The taste is so good, but the portion is a little bit big for me. The interior of the resto is very authentic with Java vibes, but there are 2 spot with chinese interior. Well, it just becoz the owner is an antique collector. Thank you, Pecel Solo! You completed my culinary bucketlist in here.

We ordered Pecel Ndeso, teh krampul, and Es Puter Djadoel. I love the Pecel with bitterness from Papaya leaves and the savoury of banana flower. It’s served with red rice, and a Karak cracker. The pecel sauce is darker than typical Pecel because of its black sesame. For those who like the authenticity of pecel with its bitterness and astringent hints, this is definitely for you. But if you expect a sweet sauce with soft vegies, choose something else but Pecel Ndeso. The Es Puter Djadoel is good. Although it’s a bit too sweet for me, but the green ‘tape’ gives a savoury surprise.

Where to next? Lunch bell rang and we heading to Restaurant Pecel Solo. My-my! Ambiance really a stand-out. As if you have walked into someone’s rustic and traditional those days house. Regardless, let me tell you that being seated in the stuffy, cramped dining area and hardly any space breather to move around was not a comfort zone. Food by far too was not a major delicious pop-up. In fact, just so-so and pretty much only acceptable. Pretty much the same like those we have already tucked into in other eateries Maybe those were far out much better. Nevertheless, in all fairness, credit due, not high distinction though, must be credit given right? Rice set meal and dessert were not winners, but did reflect how a traditional Indonesian meal should be.

Great restaurant that serves authentic and delicious local Solo cuisine, decorated top to bottom with very fine Javanese and local furniture and antiques. While waiting for my dinner of Pecel Solo and Nasi Liwet (which didn't take long), I enjoyed having a look around at all the antique pieces which populated the first floor. If felt like I was at both a gallery and museum. The food was excellent, and the service was great. Parking was also plentiful. Overall, great experience, and a must dine if you're visiting Solo.

Recommendations: Chinese - full peking duck with mixed rice Indonesian - mie godhok Jogja, Kakap Telur Bayur Western - their burger is so damn juicy, try the Greek one if you like Lamb Indian - butter chicken curry is so yummy Will definitely come back.

We stayed at Alila Solo where breakfast was included in the room rate. It’s very good breakfast and extensive variety as we expected for a 5 stars hotel. Good service and friendly staffs.

Very bad service, the meat is tough, the waiter does not seriously follow all the tables. There are tables that are well taken care of and other tables that are not taken care of at all. You feel as if you are eating food for free, so you feel that you have to pay the price for their attention to you. A very bad and frustrating experience, I will definitely not repeat it

Great restaurant in the lobby of Alila Hotel. The service from our waiter Ardian was great and we really enjoyed the food! The breakfast buffet is amazing too! Tons of great options.

Went to Epice for a family dinner with 8 people. 4 taking the buffet and the other 4 choosing drinks and food from the a la carte menu. When the water service arrived at our table, only the 4 guests who were ordering the buffet, were given a “free” glass of water, while the other 4 guests who were waiting for their F&B order were not served any drinking water. Upon asking why not everybody was given some drinking water, the waiter replied that the “free” water is only for the buffet guests, not for the a la carte guests… so their glasses were left empty. It seems that Alila’s Epice restaurant’s concept of hospitality is just that: even 4 glasses of drinking water, that could have made 4 paying guests happy, is too much to ask. Even after checking with supervisor Putra, the explanation stayed the same. If you want a glass of “free” drinking water, you have to order the buffet. Doesn’t matter if you are waiting for your drinks and food, that you ordered, to come to your table. Truly disappointing, and truly missing the point of what hospitality business is about. Giving just 4 glasses of simple water would have made for a positive impression, but now the opposite happened. So for anybody who wants to visit Solo, and would like some drinking water, feel free to contact me. I will serve it free of any charge. With thanks to Ms. Liana, duty manager, who seemed to have a better understanding of how the hospitality business should work.

Tirai Bamboe Restaurant is a delightful culinary gem located in Solo, perfect for those seeking both variety and affordability. This unique establishment transforms from a self-service Javanese eatery during the day to a vibrant Chinese-Indonesian restaurant by evening, offering an extensive menu that caters to vegetarians and meat lovers alike. With dishes priced reasonably between 20,000-30,000 rupiah for veggie options and slightly more for meat selections, it’s an excellent choice for budget-conscious diners.
RP35 for rice & 4 dishes - buffet style. Tofu, tofu n veggies, spinach mix & some form of green eggplant/courgette. Thought might need another plate but perfect amount & great price for in place. Food fresh even though open buffet Choose what want & then charged before sit to eat - bargin, very filling. Lots/all?vegetarian, limited vegan but able to work out vegan options (hope.....tummy will tell me soon if wrong). Needed chilli just had to ask & brought cutted green chilli....for once just perfect amount! Google maps actually right for a change just inside place with bakery or something out front.....just your gut not maps!

When my first time visiting this restaurant, there was an event, actually I didn’t mind with the event but the children were running around inside like a playground. Maybe because of the restaurant not too crowded so the staffs just watching them. I order sapo tahu sayuran, after asking the waitress a lot. It’s a good meal, i like it. Very delicious not too sweet or salty. They have big portion and maybe can be enough for 2-3 people
