The Strawbery Banke Museum, situated on a 10-acre site, is an outdoor living-history museum that showcases numerous buildings, gardens, and crafts. Named after the first settlement on the Piscataqua River, it offers a glimpse into Portsmouth's evolution from a small town in 1623 to a bustling port city. The museum features various houses furnished and decorated according to different historical eras, while others are preserved to demonstrate their construction with cutaway displays and exhibits of tools and materials.
Beautiful day.. Nice exhibits. Would have liveyd the kids to have a more hands on experience.. Try on clothes.. More people in costumes to capture their interest. However they do get to weave on a loom and the classes are cool.. We did cookie baking

This is an excellent place to visit for history and culture in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The buildings are well preserved, and it’s really fun to walk around and visit all of the buildings and see the exhibits inside. It’s definitely a must see for the history of the city. The buildings are very old from the 1700s and 1800s, and some of the buildings feature period actors. There are employees at many buildings to answer your questions, and everyone was very friendly.

Very cool Historic museum which is right downtown near the water. Very walkable and I really enjoyed that this museum is basically an entire historic district which is still intact amongst the down town area. Such a cool experience!

This place is really something special. I had an idea of what to expect from their website, but man it is so much more if you take the time to really absorb it all and learn about everything there. Such a wild and rich history in this area.

Great time! You can spend a couple of hours but we spent all day here! So many diverse aspects of historical events, people, the trials and tribulations of settlers and indigenous natives of this area, and more. Well worth the admission! And if you’re a Baby Boomer, don’t miss the 1940’s corner grocery store and its proprietor, nor the WW2 multiple displays and recordings of the sacrifices made, and the impact on Americans during that time; as well as the victory garden.
Barry S — Google review
Amazing neighborhood preserved as it was from its first inception. Only one structure has been moved. Most buildings were homes and had multiple owners and modifications through the years. Beginning in early 1600 through the late 1950's families lived here together. Theuseum has done a fantastic job of preservation through time.

If you are anywhere near Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Strawberry Banke Museum is a must see! Staff excellent, gardens beautiful, and exhibits very interesting and some interactive!

This is both a really informative site to learn about the history of Portsmouth and NH, but also a really fun place to spend a day! It's great to get a more tangible example of what things looked like at different points in US history.

This park is dope. They bring really good rising acts that people should know about during their summer concert series. They also do a good production each summer with some mediocre cast but they try. They also hold an acting camp for the kiddos. I’d bring a blanket here & have a picnic or you can just stroll through the flower garden. Beautiful place for real. 10/10 I’m always back.

Family friendly concerts on Saturday nights through the summer. Beautiful gardens well manicured. Wheel chair accessable. Next to Strawberry Bank, a view into Portsmouth history living from the era of the settlers. Did you know Portsmouth was founded before Boston

We visited during our weekend getaway in Portsmouth, NH, and were blown away by how beautiful and peaceful it is. The gardens are perfectly maintained, full of vibrant flowers and lovely walking paths right along the water. It’s such a relaxing spot to stroll, sit on a bench, or just take in the views of the harbor and nearby bridge. It’s also conveniently close to downtown, so it’s easy to grab a coffee or lunch nearby and enjoy it in the park. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or live nearby, it’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the charm of Portsmouth. Can’t wait to come back in the summer for one of the concerts or outdoor shows!

I absolutely love this place. I'm a PCA/CCMA and I bring a couple clients here to walk around and take in the beautiful gardens and water fountains. When ever the landscaper's are around we ask the history of the gardens (even though I remember...lol) my client's enjoy hearing it from them and interact with them. The workers love telling us about their hard work and they are very proud of what they have all have accomplished. As they should be. Absolute Beauty!!!

The most beautiful gardens I've ever seen. Someone puts a ton of time into keeping everything growing and grooming the grounds. Stunning!!!!

Concerts & Shows
The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH is a historic landmark built in 1878 and one of the oldest continuously operating concert halls in the United States. It has a rich history of hosting vaudeville acts and renowned figures like Mark Twain and Wynton Marsalis. Today, it serves as a cultural hub for live concerts, theater performances, musicals, opera simulcasts, vintage movies, and art film screenings.
First time attending a show at this beautiful venue. Such an intimate setting! We saw a band and I think most seats are good because you can hear the music from anywhere, however if it was a play there are some partially obstructed view seats. Not sure about all the seats in the balcony as we were on the lower level. All the volunteers were really nice & very helpful. I felt like I was in the Grotto when I went to the ladies room! Was not expecting a fun bathroom!
Karen L — Google review
I love this theatre. It's always fun being in Portsmouth. Great shops and restaurants in walking distance of the theatre, and the theatre itself is beautiful and well run. My only complaint are the old theatre seats. They get very uncomfortable after a short while.
Allan K — Google review
Ive been an on and off Volunteer of The Music Hall since 1986...over the years have seen some amazing performances: Tony Bennett, Pearl Bailey, Bobby McFerrin, Broadway shows such as White Christmas, ELF, Beauty and The Beast, also Portsmouth NH Symphony, Writers on the Stage the list goes on and on....I've seen the Music Hall transform with new seats, Proscenium, Chandelier, new paint and the uncovering of Vintage trompe l'oeil fresccoes, the beautiful Lobby and bathrooms. The Music Hall, in my opinion, is the CENTER of all that makes Portsmouth HOME. When you Volunteer, you have a chance to be part of history, but get to see world- class performances FOR FREE!

More than a venue, a community hub, support and a critical player in keeping our ever evolving city vibrant and alive with art and entertainment. Punches well above its weight in the talent it attracts. A gem in the area.
Brenna J — Google review
A quaint venue. Small stage for entertainers. Acoustics were great. Staff attentive! Nice selection of drink and food options.
Debbie B — Google review
What a lovely venue! Loved the professional production in a historic, intimate setting. A+
Amelia D — Google review
This venue is willing to throw women under the bus under pressure from conservatives. They canceled a fundraiser for a local women's health clinic with six days' notice, claiming they didn't have resources to manage protests. There are protests in Portsmouth all the time that are well managed, and the much smaller venue who heroically stepped up to host the fundraiser clearly had fewer resources and managed fine. So clearly the reason given by Executive Director Tina Sawtelle is a lie. I urge people who actually respect women not to patronize this venue and performers who respect women not to sign on with this unreliable and hateful business.

The Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden, a Georgian mansion constructed in 1763 and designated as a National Historic Landmark, offers guided tours during the summer months. The house boasts a Great Hall adorned with French scenic backdrops from the early 19th century and intricate carvings. Visitors can delve into its rich history through well-preserved records of its development and remarkable family heirlooms, including locally-made and English furniture. Notably, it features a portrait by Gilbert Stuart himself.
A fascinating house. The history of both owners and enslaved people who lived here was brought to life by the fabulous docent we had. Some rooms are restored and others left as is to show what it looked like 250 years ago. It's history is amazing and the gardens lend that touch of reality, like the family still lives there. The warehouse shows how lovingly and correctly everything is being restored. The horse chestnut tree brings it all together. Worth stopping here the next time you are in the Portsmouth area.

We absolutely loved the tour and learning about the history. The house and gardens are beautiful. The flag display is amazing. I especially enjoyed seeing the ancient horse chestnut tree.
Gerime B — Google review
My wife and I toured this house/museum and it was absolutely incredible. Everything in the house is original from the 1700s including furniture, bedding, wallpaper, etc. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the woman’s name who gave us the tour, but she was awesome. Very knowledgeable and detailed about the history and residents of the house throughout its existence. Truly, an amazing trip back in time.
David K — Google review
Was not able to go inside the house but glad we were able to enjoy the small garden they had outside by the streets and had good viewing of the house. One way to see a historic house for free when youre around the area.
Kimberly T — Google review
I enjoyed the tour and learning about the history of the house 🏠 and the people who lived and visited there. The house is well preserved and the belongings, furniture, paintings, utensils, ECT, still being maintained inside was fascinating to see 🙈. I even had a chance to look at the attic. I'm very interested in history, especially of the city of Portsmouth and I enjoyed my visit on Market Square Day. The garden is fantastic! I was told that more flowers 💐🌹 will bloom later. The aroma while walking through the garden reminded me of the gardens I visited in England. The horse 🐴 chestnut tree that was planted in 1776 to commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence is still standing and you can get a horse chestnut 🌰 at the entrance. If you are into history, I recommend a visit. Tours are every 45 minutes and the house is not open during the winter ❄️.

A wonderfully restored house with so much history. Being new to New England, we loved the glimpse into history that our guide gave us. The hand carved wood details and wallpaper that doesn't repeat were some of my favorite features original to the house. The gardens are gorgeous and invite you to just curl up under a tree and never leave. I was fascinated by the pigeon holes. You must ask about them if you go your if for a surprise. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to see a bit of the past.

I visited the Moffatt-Ladd House & Garden back in September during my three-day trip to Portsmouth. This was a fun tour with a highly knowledgeable guide, although the tour ran a bit long due to her enthusiasm. Plan for about ninety minutes to take the full tour and explore the gardens. The house has a great gift shop with souvenirs for every price point, along with a beautifully designed website, and an online shop. This is a must-see for history buffs and families looking to learn more about American history, along with photographers who love furniture, wallpaper, and architectural features.
Abigail E — Google review
Add to your stops! We enjoyed the Moffatt-Ladd House more than we anticipated! The docent led tour was amazing, packed with stories, points of history and specific knowledge on the different families and generations who lived here. Come with your mind open and ready to learn about the home William Whipple, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence lived in - it's a gem in American History. Our total for entry was $36, we're seniors!

Bistro
Black Trumpet is an intimate bistro and wine bar located in a 200-year-old building in Portsmouth, NH. The chef-owned establishment offers globally inspired dishes with a menu that changes frequently, drawing inspiration from Mediterranean country cuisine. Chef-owner Evan Mallett is known for his locavore approach and expertise in foraging, reflected in the seasonal rhythms of the menus. The cozy waterfront bistro provides a rustic and romantic ambiance, making it an ideal spot for lunch or dinner throughout the year.
My recent dinner at Black Trumpet in Portsmouth was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I stepped into the charming, historic building overlooking the Piscataqua River, I was captivated by its warm, intimate ambiance. The exposed brick walls, wooden beams, and candlelit tables created a cozy and romantic atmosphere perfect for a special night out. The service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive. Our server was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also enthusiastic about sharing recommendations and wine pairings, which elevated the experience. The food was simply outstanding. The wine selection was carefully curated, offering a variety of biodynamic and sustainable options. Black Trumpet is more than a restaurant, it’s a celebration of flavors, creativity, and hospitality. Whether you’re seeking a romantic date night or a memorable dinner with friends, this gem in Portsmouth is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommended!

My wife and I were on a quick weekend getaway to Portsmouth and read so many great things about Black Trumpet. The food, atmosphere and service were top notch. We didn’t have a reservation so we sat at the bar and we were served by John. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the drinks and cocktails he makes. He chatted us up and other patrons at the bar and made us feel like regulars. My wife and I split the lamb which was perfectly cooked served with zucchini, couscous, and a tomato spread. A great blend of flavors. The restaurant is small and intimate in a very old building with ton of history. We will certainly be back the next time we’re in the area

First time in Portsmouth and could not have picked a better first night dinner. Made reservations ahead so no wait. We shared two appetizers, a medium plate and the seafood paella for our final course. Everything was delicious and filling. Dana was our server and was exceptionally helpful, including wine choice. Monica the hostess kicked off our dinner with “best seat in the house”!
Nancy D — Google review
This was a 5 star meal. The restaurant is unassuming from the outside but quaint on the inside. House in a 200+ year building that has survived fires and the test of time. The drinks are made with care and the food is crafted to be delicious. Shout out John the bartender!
Jamie K — Google review
We rented out the first floor of the Black Trumpet for our wedding rehearsal dinner and had an amazing experience. The food was delicious (as expected) and we loved the care that they put into our menu and into the space. They printed special menus for our dinner, made sure to have some food out right away for our guests, and served drinks quickly so that our guests felt settled and comfortable right off the bat. We loved the local, seasonal menu, which was perfectly prepared and beautifully plated. Plus the pastry chef even made a delicious surprise dessert for me and my fiance. We would highly recommend Black Trumpet for your private events or just for a date night. We hope to be back many more times.

Black Trumpet is a fantastic find. The steak I had was one of the best I’ve ever tasted: juicy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The whole dinner felt like a focus on fresh, local ingredients. The bartender made a Manhattan that impressed me, and I’m pretty picky about mine. The host was professional and welcoming, which added to the warm, cozy vibe. It’s the kind of spot where you feel comfortable and well cared for, making it a great pick for a memorable night out.

My husband and I had a gorgeous experience here last night! We enjoyed the bread with orange chive butter (what a beautiful combo!) and the Warm Pumpkin Salad was the best salad I've had in ages! We had the steak entree and the duck. The beans on the duck plate stole the show! He got a mezcal cocktail and, thank you John, that was the best mezcal cocktail we've had in the area by far! Our server was professional and kind, the bartenders were authentic and warm. The restaurant is gorgeous and cozy! We can't wait to come back.
Sara C — Google review
We were excited to try Black Trumpet based on the all the write-ups, but it was very forgettable. We happened to visit during Restaurant Week, which our server commented is "always crazy," so maybe thats why it was disappointing? Rum cocktail had 7-8 ingredients, which was too many, and just tasted like a hodgepodge of things thrown together. Not very enjoyable. House focaccia fully cold to the touch as if straight out of a refrigerator Snail gruyere gratin was great, but hard to mess up melted cheese. The cacoa nibs sound fancy but added nothing to the dish. Flounder roulade was extremely disappointing. Far too heavy on the bottarga, which overwhelmed all other flavors. The carrot harissa paste was good, but the 4 whole fingerling potatoes were just there and seemed like a throw away to make the dish look more substantial. Wife enjoyed her steak, so probably the highlight of the dinner. Mille feuille was bland. I never got any hint of the miso, and the puff pastry was dense and tough to chew. The top layer was fine but the middle and bottom seemed soggy and tough to eat. I think it had been sitting for a while. Maybe it was just a bad night, but probably wont bother coming back to find out.

Italian restaurant
Massimo's, also known as Ristorante Massimo, is an upscale Italian restaurant located in historic downtown Portsmouth. The restaurant offers a quaint brick European ambiance that evokes the feeling of being in Florence, Rome, and Venice. Massimo's prides itself on using the freshest seasonal ingredients and preparing its own meats, pastas, and bread from scratch.
Stunning upscale Italian fare in a gorgeous historic building in downtown Portsmouth- Massimo's is a "must -do" date night! From the handmade oil portraits of the Italian countryside to the brick, fabric and dark wood, the atmosphere is absolutely enchanting. From the moment we walked in, the staff treated us like long lost family; ushering us to a beautifully set table, our waitress had two glasses of prosecco waiting almost as soon as she heard we were celebrating a special occasion. From the goat cheese stuffed zucchini blossom to the handmade pea aroncini, our appetizers were perfect. We followed it up with a couple of seafood main dishes that looked almost as amazing as they tasted, and a chocolate dessert that almost overloaded the taste buds with decadence. Prices are not necessarily low, but I can definitely say you get what you pay for and more; the atmosphere and food was exquisite but the service especially was top tier. Don't miss out on Massimo's if you're in Portsmouth, ESPECIALLY if celebrating!

No show, just acute, efficient professionalism across the board. STELLAR. Massimo: What a treat to meet, thank you for your hospitality,

Exceptional service and truly authentic Italian cuisine. The flavors were clean and balanced, showcasing real attention to detail in every dish. The staff was welcoming and attentive, offering a personalized experience that made the meal feel special. We were introduced to fantastic new wine; a great touch that added to the overall discovery. Inviting atmosphere with a fun, relaxed vibe. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful day last night at Restaurant Massimo. The staff could not have been more lovely. The atmosphere was classy and cozy and the food was outstanding. We were celebrating my parents 60th wedding anniversary and they made us all feel so special. We tried each of the pasta dishes and they were all excellent. We each had a different favorite. The octopus appetizer was great and unique and a generous portion. Save room for desserts! We tried three different ones and loved them all!
Adam G — Google review
Went here on a high recommendation and I am so glad they did. Immediately greeted and sat down, I highly recommend reservations. What a nice atmosphere. You go down into a basement like area but this is not basement, this is an authentic Italian scene. Very nice. Made me feel like I was in Italy and about to have a meal of a lifetime. We started off with the Kobe meatballs, OMG, soft, tender and delicious. I love the sauce. Then onto the grilled octopus, nice char and soft meat, very nicely done. The the crispy zucchini blossom. Lightly dusted and perfect cooked stuffed with goat cheese, OMG! I could have eaten 10 of these. Then the carbonara pasta, again OMG! Perfectly cooked pasta and the sauce...I couldn't stop eating. Then onto the main courses, Espresso-rubbed duck, Bone-in Veal chop. Both were perfectly cooked and 100% delicious. Our waitress and overall service was spot on, the owner came by our table not once but twice to make sure everything was to our liking. Would I go here again? Every time I come here I'm going to make sure this place is on my dinner list.

Massimo’s Ristorante is the best food around! Everything from the drinks at the beginning to the desserts at the end and everything in between were absolutely delicious. The service was also impeccable! The filet mignon was cooked perfectly and was the best! 100/10 will be back! Thank you Massimo!

The atmosphere is one of my favorites in Portsmouth with a beautiful upstairs and downstairs. The staff is extremely professional and polite and the food is excellent. I have been once for a normal night, and another time for Portsmouth restaurant week. I got the swordfish as my entree last time and it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The dessert I had after my meal was very unique and is definitely worth getting. If you’re looking for fine dining to celebrate a date night or some other occasion this is a great place to go.

Had the best experience for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Our waiter Anthony gave impeccable service and even gave us a free anniversary dessert. It was a handmade cannoli with a sparkling candle. I got the filet mignon and the husband got the bone in ribeye. Felt like something out of a movie and we are very grateful for the experience. Very big and fancy wine collection and nice velvet seating in the private dining hall.

Spanish restaurant
Cava is a charming bistro and wine bar located in historic downtown Portsmouth. The restaurant is known for its rustic-chic ambiance, with a signature vertical garden adorning the brick wall building. Offering a mix of modern and traditional Spanish tapas, Cava's menu features delights such as Cava gazpacho, patatas bravas, and piquillo peppers with Andalusian mackerel.
Perfect slow paced dining! The ambience was great, service was excellent, and there was not a single miss on the 80% of the entire seasonal menu we tried. The dishes took a bit longer to prepare but were all delicious and thoughtful even to scrutinizing connoisseurs. The food is modernistic and lighter compared to traditional Spanish/Mediterranean food, not the greatest fit for someone needing something very heavy and hearty with *a lot* of calories.

I was able to get a same day reservation for a lovely Saturday in October. I sat on the patio under the heat lamps, and was quite comfortable. The menu is a $59 price fixed. You order everything at the same time and your server spaces it out for you. The service was excellent, as was the food. I started with some almonds and olives. Super delicious and authentic. Then I had the potato leek soup, which was missing a touch of salt in my opinion. I ordered patatas bravas which reminded me of the ones I get in Spain. So good. My entree was the paella, which was absolutely delicious. I can’t remember the name of my drink, but it was basically a creamy, spicy, tart drink, absolutely perfect. I had one of the best meals I have ever had here. I will definitely be going back.

The food was terrible. Super small portions which would be cool and fancy IF the food was good. But it’s not food was honestly gross. Plus we got charged 10 bucks for legit 5 potato cubes with like sauce on it. Staff was especially rude. Atmosphere was loud and unfriendly. I felt as though the staff was over pushing us to get drinks, by placing extra drink coasters and asking three separate times if we would like to order drinks. Terrible experience. Don’t go here.

So exceptional! I had a giftcard here and went for my birthday, is a cozy little restaurant and bar in Portsmouth. The owner and servers were friendly, helpful, fast, made great suggestions, and repeatedly asked if everything was tasting okay. We did the $60 per person 4 course meal for the Spring Menu. You have 3 options to choose from for each course. I had the beet salad, cauliflower, gnocchi, and churros. Everything was so fresh, flavorful and clearly cooked with love. Was insanely good the drinks were really fun and creative too. Would absolutely go back for their summer menu and recommend to anyone in the area. Definitely make a reservation!

We arrived prior to posted opening time during Restaurant Week, spur of the moment, no reservation. We were greeted by the Owner, who lead us downstairs to an intimate little room. Although we were in first, the room quickly filled up( always a good sign!). Service was excellent, prompt, and professional. Since it was Restaurant Week, the menu featured varied selections, each one magnificent! We were impressed by the chef and team effort! We will be sure to return! Thanks for getting us in!!

Tapas restaurant
Moxy is a trendy restaurant and bar that offers contemporary American cuisine with a New England twist. Inspired by the region's fresh produce and vibrant culture, it serves imaginative small plates meant for sharing. Chef Matt Louis, a James Beard Best Chef Northeast Semi-Finalist, creates dishes like Harvard beets with cre fraiche and brown sugared pork shoulder johnnycakes. The restaurant also offers outdoor dining and a variety of Granite State beers to complement the flavorful menu.
It had been 12 or 13 years since I'd last been to Moxy, so I was so excited to bring my fiancé for his first time on Saturday night. About an hour before opening, we were able to easily secure a reservation for 5:45pm and were seated upstairs near the railing. It was his time having tapas so I let him pick most of the dishes to make sure we got things he would enjoy. For our small plates, first to come out was the calamari. It was perfectly spiced and the peppers were a lovely addition. Then the Moxy bread was delightfully toasted. We also got the crispy pork belly (a top dish for both of us, perfect combination of flavors), the mini Italian sausages (this one fell flat for us), and the mini fried chicken (another top dish). We finished off with the whoopie pies, which to me the filling was a bit too sweet, but the dark chocolate sauce helped to cut that a little bit. We had a lovely time and can't wait to come back! For parking, there's some street parking available, but I'd recommend parking in one of the garages and walking, so you don't get caught up waiting for pedestrians and looking for a spot. The Hanover Garage (as of June 1) is undergoing some construction so certain entrances/exits are closed, which can prolong the parking and exiting process. American style tapas (small plates) - not a knock by any means - just prepare for that when you choose this spot. Great way to experiment and explore the menu. Beyond the food, well crafted cocktails in a trendy spot. Good vibes for sure

I recently ate at Moxy, and the food was so good. It's one of the best places I've been to in a while. What's cool is that all the plates are small and meant for sharing, so you can try a lot of different stuff. The steak was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and tasted so good. It was tender and juicy, just how I like it. My favorite part was the fried cauliflower. It was not battered at all, just cooked until it was super crispy. It tasted so good, and the sauce that came with it was awesome. I could have eaten a whole plate of it myself! I had a great time at Moxy. The food was delicious, and I would definitely go back. You should try it!

Came here on the first night of restaurant week. It was a good time, I wish they had their normal menu, but that was our fault. The ambiance is quite nice and it was PACKED. The food was okay. The tuna tartare was not flavourful, the pork belly was decent, and the meatballs were a bit dry. The vegetarian dishes were actually better. The corn chowder did need salt, the squash was nice, and the mushroom gnocchi was actually very good. The drinks were alright, the o captain was actually good. The churros were BAD. It was basically a chip. Not a fan.

First impression: love! Sooo trendy and cute inside Service: everyone was super friendly, seems like everyone is working together and helping each-other out Food: AMAZING. The carrots were life-changing and I can’t stop thinking about them. We also had the muscles which were so good, the bowl didn’t even have any broth after we were done with them.

Loved the tapa style food. Can choose may options to try and share with group of 4. Our favs were the vegetarian dishes, mussels and calamari. The steak and pork belly was a bit over and dry.

Emma was very attentive and even apologized for the small delay it took for the Gnocchi to arrive. Her service was greatly appreciated. Every plate was a wonder of taste and both cocktails I ordered were excellent. Highly recommended.

Loved the atmosphere and warm welcome. I think we oreded about one of everything, see photos. What was the best? The gnocchi. Then the home made Italian sausage. The corn, not so much. Just lacked flavor but the sauce was delicious. The fried chicken was a disaster. Over breaded and hard as a rock. Pork belly, awesome. Beef rib wayyyyy over salted. The meat ball was decent. The crabmeat flatbrrad appeared to be fake crab which i dont want to believe being we are in Portsmouth. The table favorite was the fried pickles and sauces. The service was fast, I mean, the food came out quick as we ordered. The servers were great as well. Would I go here again? Not sure.

American restaurant
Cure is a restaurant located at 189 State Street in Portsmouth, NH, offering classic American cuisine in an intimate setting with exposed-brick walls, a small bar, and a patio. The place tends to be busy, so it's recommended to book in advance. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. Dishes are described as works of art and the duck and mushroom risotto are particularly praised. Visitors have also highlighted the ambiance, service quality, and impeccable presentation of the food.
We ordered the Pan Roasted Duck Breast and Red Wine Braised Short Ribs. The duck was absolutely killer, I had no idea duck could be this flavorful and juicy! Perfectly paired with the mushroom risotto. Our server was hilarious and helpful and the atmosphere inside is delightful. Plates here start in the mid 30$ range, but it was excellent. I would definitely come again

Wonderful meal at Cure tonight. It's Restaurant Week in Portsmouth, and we partook of this special menu. I had the Short Ribs, and my wife had the Salmon. Appetizers were tasty; Entree Portions were nicely sized and perfectly cooked. Sides were creative and generous. Desserts (chai panna cotta and apple torte) were small, but tasty. Facility is broken up into smaller rooms allowing for clearly heard conversations. As with almost all Portsmouth restaurants, paid on-street parking can be tight. Recommmended.

We went for a Sunday dinner date and had a phenomenal meal and excellent experience. My husband got the roast duck with a black rice mushroom risotto and I got the vegetable herb papardelle. Both meals were excellent. The corn bread side was also delicious - perfectly sweet and buttery. The STAR of the night was the flourless chocolate cake with peanut butter. Unbelievably good. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff was incredibly kind. We will absolutely be back!!

Our first visit and can't believe we have never eaten here. Lobster Bisque amazing and the lobster was so tender I'm thinking it was poached. Loved the Strawberry & White Balsamic salad. Grilled bread basket with our apps. Braised Short Ribs SO delicious and I loved the Seared Statler Chicken - so much flavor. Flourless chocolate cake with PB sauce and cinnamon creme brulee for desert was yummy. Hope they never remove that cake! Inside the place screams old Portsmouth to me, before the days of all the buildup and we love it! Small, cozy, brick walls, very small bar. If you want a little more room, they have the covered patio. Staff was great, Seth was our server, and we loved him. Great feel too if you want to go solo because the tables and bar are small. We went at 5pm on Wednesday and it filled up, I suggest reservations.

One of the best meals I've ever had. The dining and bar space was intimate without feeling crowded. Both cocktails I ordered were fantastic. Highly recommended, especially for a romantic meal. I was able to walk in and sit at the bar, but seating is at a premium and I would highly suggest a reservation.

Food was amazing. We got the escargot, french onion soup, duck and the diver scallop special. All were amazing. Server was great- friendly, knowledge. Small place and the bar is also small, so don't expect to come there early to have a drink on a weekend.

Everything was speculation. We got strawberry salad (our favorite thing), PBJ ribs, lobster bisque (very rich and delicious with chunks of meat), duck (not at all gamey but slightly a little too rare in the middle), the scallop special, and cornbread (which was basically dessert!). Very unique and creative.
