Yuma

Yuma is a city in southwest Arizona. Overlooking the Colorado River, Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park is home to the preserved cells and guard tower of a Wild West–era prison. Nearby, Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park was a 19th-century military warehouse and telegraph station. A 1907 steam locomotive on Pivot Point Plaza commemorates the Southern Pacific Railroad, which once ran through the city.

Nestled in the heart of Yuma, Arizona, the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historic Park is a fascinating glimpse into the past. Established in 1876, this former prison has transformed into an engaging museum that showcases its storied history through preserved ruins and informative exhibits. Visitors can wander through stone-walled cells, explore the remnants of prison buildings, and pay their respects at the cemetery. The park also features a visitor center with interpretive panels and a lovely cactus garden to enjoy.
Neat history and info. Most of the buildings are no longer there but there are still some cell blocks, gate, museum, library, yard and other things to see. Worth a stop if you're in the area. Museum has a lot of info and the gift shop employees are friendly and helpful.

Said to be one of the most haunted destinations in Yuma, Arizona, we found the prison to be fun for the whole family. It is educational, historical and full of surprises. Prices are $10 per adult and $5 perchild, free parking. There is an indoor museum and an outdoor interactive Prison setting. There is also a dark cave (with bats you can actually see) and plenty of photo ops. We loved that there was a shaded space for a picnic should you chose to bring a lunch. Staff is welcoming, friendly and informative and we would highly recommend this tourist attraction.

I loved the history here! I spent almost two hours here and I would have stayed longer if it wasn't for the heat! There's so much to read and interact with as you learn about this historical place. Mike, the staff member inside the museum, was great to talk to and knowledgeable. I was able to comfortably geek-out on the history and enjoy myself. Highly recommend

My wife and I, along with a few friends, visited the Yuma Territorial Prison Historical State Park on October 3rd, 2025, and we absolutely loved it. The museum is packed with fascinating history about the prison, its prisoners, and the many stories that shaped this place. You can really feel the weight of the past as you walk through the old cells and read about the people who once lived here. The exhibits are well organized, informative, and engaging — it’s easy to spend a couple of hours exploring everything. The staff were friendly and clearly passionate about preserving the history of the prison. The views of the Colorado River from the grounds are also beautiful and worth taking in before you leave. Overall, it’s a must-visit if you’re in Yuma. A great mix of history, atmosphere, and storytelling!

Very nice! Well keeped grounds. If you are going through Yuma, a must stop! You can spend an hour or more, well worth the time.
Richard L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. Well explained history on info signs and in the museum. You got a good feeling of how it was back when it was in service.
Philip — Google review
Very interesting! Well-curated, and quite historical. The outside facilities were largely lost and destroyed after the prison closed in the early 30th century, but preservationists knew its history should be preserved. It’s easily self-guided, and one of the more interesting, if sad parts is the plain, unadorned rock graveyard, adjacent to the prison grounds: make sure to visit that. You can also pose as an inmate, holding signs like the prisoners themselves held!
Paul W — Google review
Well curated with good explanations as to the need for the prison and how it operated over the years. Many interesting stories of prison life and of the lives of various inmates.

Nestled in the heart of Yuma, Arizona, Colorado River State Historic Park offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's military past. Once serving as an army depot, this park showcases a collection of meticulously restored buildings that house exhibits detailing the area's rich history. Visitors can immerse themselves in stories from the 1870s when goods were transported along the Colorado River to support frontier forts.
This historic park is truly a MUST-SEE destination for anyone interested in culture, heritage, or simply experiencing something unique. With a general admission fee of just $10, it offers an incredible value for the amount of history and atmosphere you’ll encounter. You’ll have the option to explore at your own pace, wandering through the grounds, taking in the architecture, and imagining what life was like more than a century ago. But if you really want the past to come alive, we highly recommend joining a guided tour with Jay, one of the park’s most knowledgeable and engaging guides. Jay has a remarkable way of weaving stories, details, and fascinating facts together so that every corner and building feels alive with history. Walking through the park is like stepping straight into the early 1900s. The preserved buildings, authentic details, and immersive atmosphere transport you to another era, giving you a glimpse of daily life from over a hundred years ago. Whether you’re a history buff, a curious traveler, or simply looking for a memorable outing, this park delivers an experience you won’t forget.

Great explanations as to why the natives, the Army and the settlers all arrived in the Yuma area to cross the Colorado River. Good stories of the various periods of development and decline in the area. The museum areas were also of interest.

Very stunning clean state park. Staff is great.
Glenn M — Google review
This Arizona State Park has had many names over the past several years, and suffers from an identity crisis. It is under-rated and deserves a visit, particularly if you are in the area to visit its more famous neighbor, the territorial prison museum. This park includes interesting information and history of its use as the quartermaster's depot for the Yuma army base across the river during the 1800s. It also has an excellent section about the history of the Colorado river, its influence on agriculture and the city of Yuma, as well as the engineering and politics that continue to affect the river and the millions of people who inhabit neighboring states. I found the information about the Yuma siphon very interesting, but nowhere did I find anything in the museum that showed me exactly how close the actual siphon is to the museum, or where I could see it. It turns out, the outlet of the siphon is just outside the museum fence, between the museum and the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn. Well worth the time and admission fee to learn about the history of Yuma.

Visited on 6/20/24. Place was pretty empty as it was a scorcher that day but my family still enjoyed it! The ranger at the front desk was so helpful and informative! Would love to visit again during cooler weather!

Fabulous park full of wonderful artifacts, beautiful landscape, well preserved. Exhibits are spacious and clearly written. Sidewalks are easy to navigate. Shop is delightful and so is Nicole!

We found this by accident walking the gateway path and it was a great surprise! We paid $10 to get in and learned all about the quartermaster who lived there and how they created the Siphon. I highly recommend checking this out if you are in the area!

Sanguinetti House Museum and Gardens is a must-visit attraction that offers a glimpse into the life of a prominent local family in the late 19th century. The museum features well-maintained gardens and various outdoor attractions, including etched granite panels depicting world history, a pyramid marking the Center of the World, a French-style chapel, and more.
Dave was an excellent and very knowledgeable guide. The tour itself was a little more than 70 minutes, well paced, and quite informative. Would highly recommend the guided walking tour and perusing the museum for a bit of Yuma history.
Joshua B — Google review
This is a great little museum in the house owned and lived in by E.F Sanguinetti. Sanguinetti was a early resident businessman involved in the early development of Yuma. His interests varied from agriculture and mercantile to ice distribution, among others. Part of the house is an excellent example of adobe construction (not damaged by the 1916 floods). The surrounding garden-like yard includes a former aviary, and what was a fountain and then swimming pool, providing an unexpected oasis in the desert. The museum is not open in the summer months (roughly June-October). The docents are extremely friendly and helpful, and can provide a lot of information about the rooms, the house and the life of E.F. Sanguinetti. We spent about two hours just investigating the house and garden, often imagining what it must have been like in the early days of Yuma.

Wonderful historic home of a man who basically organized Yuma. Small but very fun. Staff excellent and Director Amanda Dahl is a treasure,7th generation Yuman and dedicated to preserving Yuma history. This is a must visit. Took less than an hour or so reading everything. Loved it!

West Wetlands Park is a sprawling 110-acre riverfront oasis located in Yuma, Arizona, along the Colorado River. It offers a range of recreational activities including playgrounds, multi-use trails, grassy areas for sports, and a picturesque pond. The park also features a Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden, an Owl Habitat, equestrian trails, disc-golf courses, and boating opportunities.
A beautiful park that's well maintained with a lovely pond full of happy ducks when we visited. The highlight though is absolutely the children's creative play area with an incredible huge castle play area that our toddler loved. It had so much to explore we could have spent hours and hours there! Definitely a great place to stop and let a kid run around and play for a while.
Erica S — Google review
A beautiful sprawling park on the shores of the Colorado River near downtown Yuma. There are plenty of easy walking trails, bike paths, and covered picnic areas. We sat my the pond and watched the duck, geese, and egrets while eating lunch. Plenty for the kids to enjoy.
John — Google review
West Wetlands Park is one of Yuma’s treasures, a wide stretch of green space that feels like a blessing in the desert. Set along the Colorado River, it brings together trails, ponds, and playgrounds in a way that makes it perfect for families, couples, or anyone just wanting a quiet walk under open skies. The pond at the center is alive with ducks and birds, and it’s a peaceful place to sit and watch the water. Trails wind through the park, some shaded by trees, others opening up to river views that remind you of just how much life the water gives to this part of Arizona. Kids have plenty of room to run, from the castle-style playground to open fields, and the butterfly and hummingbird garden adds a touch of beauty that makes the park even more unique. What makes West Wetlands Park special is how it balances activity and rest. You can spend the day picnicking, fishing, or flying a kite, or you can simply find a bench and let the sound of the river calm your spirit. It’s a place that invites you to breathe, slow down, and appreciate Yuma in a deeper way. Grateful Traveler’s Note

You really can't help but come back to this park. It's quiet, clean, and you can make lots of new friends. Of course, you still need to be careful, especially with the animals that live here, and above all, follow the regulations that apply to this park to maintain order and cleanliness.

Visitors can enjoy various activities such as fishing, swimming, water sports, and picnicking under large pavilions. I loved it! It was such a pretty day! Great place for family picnics and you can play in the water.

Clean beach cool water. Easy parking. 100 year old bridges A lot of rail traffic. This place has much history. Museums nearby. Five stars cause it deserves It... not because it's luxury.
Terry B — Google review
Nice place to swim in the river and have a picnic/cookout. There are many nice walking trails along the river.
Pamela K — Google review
Gateway Park sits right on the edge of the Colorado River and feels like Yuma’s front porch. You can walk along the water, dip your feet in, or just sit back and watch the river roll by. The bridge overhead gives it a bit of character, and the sound of the water mixed with the chatter of families and travelers makes it feel alive. It’s a great spot to cool off, especially when the weather hits that summer heat. There’s plenty of shade, picnic tables, and trails that stretch out along the river. You’ll see locals fishing, kids splashing, and people just slowing down for a bit. What I love most about Gateway Park is how it ties the town to the river. It’s simple, calm, and real, the kind of place that reminds you why the desert and the water belong together. Grateful Traveler’s Note 🌿

Took my One year old daughter to the park and she has the best time. Her love for Nature grows more and more as we play and run through the open field. She loves to gaze upon the big trees that are scattered throughout the park. Weather is getting much cooler so the fun times are definitely rolling!

This is by far a gym in Yuma. It almost doesn’t seem like it belongs here with the beautiful part of the river running through it, all the greenery, a hiking or biking path, playground, and lots of places to have a picnic by the water. I heard that you can even fish here. For sunsets it’s to die for. I really love this park. The only thing that sets me off our dog owners with their dogs off the leash. Be considerate and keep your leashed, even if it’s a friendly dog we need to always have our dogs on a leash.
Rena G — Google review
Great place to get out of the heat and play in the water with shade. We really had a great time. It was pretty clean. We got there at 12pm and found parking easily. Cars were circling when we left at 3pm. The current wasn't too bad and we were able to float down the river and walk back in the water against the current without too much a hard time. We will definitely be back.
Jennifer B — Google review
We were on a road trip and stopped in Yuma for lunch. We have only been to Yuma to get a quick bite to eat or get gas. We decided to drop by this park just to walk around before a long drive home. The weather was beautiful and it was nice to see the Colorado River view. There was a playground and picnic tables. There was a large group of young adults swimming and jumping off a rope by the bridge. Looks like a fun place to hang out and it’s free.

The restaurant is known for its impressive gluten-free menu, catering to various dietary preferences. This was our first time and definitely not our last. What a find! Highly recommend this restaurant. We did not have reservations and asked to sit at the bar so we could watch the food come out of the kitchen. Every dish looked amazing. Very well run super busy yet the owner still stopped by to check on us and have a delightful conversation on the artwork. Ample seating outside lovely tables inside as well. Highly recommend.

My husband and I celebrated our 1 yr wedding anniversary today. I'm so happy we decided to come to River City grill. Food was amazing, but the service was unbelievable. We encountered with Joseph. He was tending to every customer with attentiveness, kindness, and a positive attitude. I work retail/ customer service field and I can't tell you enough how appreciative we were that you have Joseph on your team. His dedication while working, is applaudable. Very high work ethic. All, with a smile on his face. He is a valuable asset.

We enjoyed a delicious meal at the River City Grill. It was the perfect spot for an anniversary dinner while in Yuma for a couple of weeks. We ordered the Ribeye steak and the Salmon with Risotto. Both were wonderful. The waitstaff were friendly and efficient.
Courtney K — Google review
Went on a Monday night toward close. Was nice and quiet with good music (a spin on late 2000's era pop songs I believe). The scallop and mushroom dish was absolutely divine with a perfectly flaky bread (was half off at the time I went) and the orange mojito mocktail I got was wonderful; a couple sprinkles of salt after enjoying a 1/4 of it added a beatiful balance to the tanginess. The only vague miss was the veal shank I got. The yukon potatoes were spending, as well as vegetables, but a bigger portion of the meat itself was just a little dry. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it was a sour note compared to the rest of the symphony. 98/100.
Tasanoki R — Google review
Fantastic service! The people are very nice and obviously well trained. I had to choose between what I saw on the extensive and varied menu and tonight's special, an amazing sounding Shrimp and Penne offer that almost made me change my mind from the Rack of Lamb that caught my eye. I passed on my compliments to the Chef for the lamb, simply wonderful. The dessert menu was so very good that I struggled with my choice, ending up with the Crème Brûlée on the advice of the wonderful server that took great care of me , Jenna. It came with a Grand Marnier and sugar cap, perfectly glazed that you had to break through! I will be back to see what other food items from their menu I can treat myself to!
Thomas R — Google review
First time visiting this place and because of the good reviews I doing on the internet. When we arrived, we were served very quickly and our waitress was always very friendly and attentive. The dining room inside wasn't that busy so for that reason the service was quick. However, the food took an hour to be served and we had to call another waiter to give us the status of our order. When it finally arrived, my steak was very burnt and instead of medium it was well done and I couldn’t taste any flavor on it. The potato salad was good, but I couldn't eat the whole steak. The place has an outdoor sitting area, but in the summer it's impossible to sit outside, it’s insanely hot so keep that in mind. There is ample parking on the street and in a parking lot next to the restaurant. The prices are higher than an average place with the same selection of food. I expected a little more from this place so I'm not sure if I would recommend it or not, according to my experience here.

Always pleasant service. Always a culinary experience. And Apple Bread Pudding is worth loosening two belt holes to enjoy this smooth, apple rich dessert. Having been coming to this restaurant for the past 20 years. Never, ever disappointed. A Yuma Restaurant destination.

We had lunch. Tried the special which was a chicken breast sandwich. It was very good as was the pasta dish we had. My wife was very happy with the variety of foods offered. She found a lot of things we will be going back to try later. It was priced reasonably for the type of food served here. There was a lot of seating in the patio.

Lutes Casino is a historic and quirky American restaurant located in downtown Yuma. It has been a popular dining and drinking spot since the 1940s, housed in a building dating back to 1901. Despite its name, it's not a traditional casino but rather an eclectic bar and restaurant with unique decor. The menu features classic All-American fare such as towering burgers with a secret-recipe hot sauce, chicken wings, tacos, and cold craft brews.
Lutes is a local landmark. Great food, great service, amazing atmosphere! Such a fun tradition everytime we go to Yuma! The owner is usually there mid afternoon. He is such a character! This is a must see stop❤️
Miki M — Google review
To be clear, it isn't a casino anymore, it's a restaurant. Food was below average to me and a little overpriced. The only food I'd recommend is the jalapeño poppers. Service was OK, I did speak to one of the cooks who seemed super friendly. There is dining inside and I saw outside tables. The decor included lots of butts boobs and baseball among other things. There is a small arcade. I didn't like the flavor of the hot dogs. Side dishes such as french fries cost extra. I found it interesting the kitchen was in front and dining is behind the kitchen. Could host a large group here.

My Mother and I popped on for lunch; The food was great; had the wedge Salad and it was huge, like almost 1/2 head of lettuce. The dressing was a fantastic chunky bleu cheese and fresh cooked bacon bits (generous amount). Very crisp and refreshing. My Mom had the Reuben and remarked that it was very good, used actual Pastrami instead of deli corned beef. The service was great, it wasn’t busy so she was very attentive. I felt the prices were very reasonable considering the excellent fresh quality and exceptional service. Will definitely return and recommend!

Enjoyed it. Server was cool and friendly. Food was good. Kids were entertained. I like places with some history. Lots of fried stuff, I had the burger with a dog on it and it was solid. Wholesome spot to visit on a 115 degree day in Yuma.

Everything was great!!! The only reason I gave four stars in service is because when we ordered our food, my dish came literally 10 minutes after everyone else. Other than the food being awesome, the entire place is covered in history; newspaper articles, "art" pieces, and a whole bunch of memorabilia. The place gets packed quite quickly. The empty pic is what I ordered 🤣

Burgers & Beer is a local chain that offers a variety of food options including breakfast, Mexican dishes, pasta, and more. This restaurant first opened in 1985 in Calexico and has since expanded to five branches across Arizona and Southern California. The Yuma branch was established in the mid-1990s and has become quite popular. Known for its delicious burgers paired with refreshing cold beer, Burgers & Beer provides a casual dining experience with friendly staff.
Diverse menu, great food, attentive service, entertaining atmosphere. Booths feature individual televisions if somehow the vast selection of programs on the ‘big screens’ around the restaurant don’t offer what you’re looking for. When we visit Yuma, Burgers & Beer offers consistently good food & service, and coldest beer in town by far.

This was our 3rd time dining here, and once again, the meal was a hit! I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, and it was delicious. What I appreciated is that they served the broth separately so that I could add it myself. This kept the tortilla strips crispy and no soggy soup. It was flavorful, and I will most definitely order again. Service was great, and it's overall a fun environment.

Food was great dont get me wrong. However our original server was rude. We kindly said we were waiting for the rest of our party and he tossed attitude to us. When we finally did order drinks he brought us out a dirty champagne glass. We asked if we could have a new one politely and all they did was do a quick rinse and handed it back to us...didnt even get a new one. The rest of the staff was great and food was amazing. Would recommend for the food only mostly ☺️

A few highs, a few lows. First the lows, I am 6'2" and I feel the bar stools are a little short for the bar as I was having difficulty eating while sitting there. The Guacamole burger though delicious, almost disintegrated after taking the first bite. The highs, this is the most unlikely spot for the best French toast I have had. You would not expect a place named "Burgers & Beer" to have delicious French toast, let alone a breakfast menu. The atmosphere here is incredible, great music being played friendly staff and whatever game you can imagine on one of its 800 TV's. Definitely worth checking out.

Went on Veteran's day for brunch. Service was acceptably fast considering every single table was full. I got the Imperial Fig burger (pictured) and it was delicious. My kids got pancakes, husband got the Mexicali burger, all were enjoyed.

Was greeted and seated, no problem. Waiter brought our drinks and took our order, we never saw him again, at all. Food came out way too quick, enchilada sauce was no good. No one bothered to check on us, when we got refills on drinks the new waitress was neither nice or rude, just like she didn't care about much of anything. The service was basically non existent, however no one was truly rude, just zombified. Prices are outrageous. Food was not terrible, just the sauce was gross. It's a nice place but you pay for the atmosphere with the menu prices. Never did see the first waiter. This was one of the few times I haven't tipped, it was me and my wife that ate there.

Bar & grill
The Crossing Grill and Bar is a relaxed establishment featuring a vibrant tiled bar that serves American classics, draft beer, and innovative margaritas. It has become a popular dining tradition in Yuma since the late 1980s. Named after its historical significance as a crossing point on the Colorado River for travelers, this restaurant specializes in New American cuisine.
Awesome place all around! The burger was seriously one of the best I’ve had in a while — perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the bun actually holds up instead of falling apart like a lot of places. The draft beer selection is on point too. They’ve got a great mix of local brews and popular favorites, and the staff actually knows what they’re talking about when it comes to recommendations. Ended up trying something new and really liked it. The vibe here is super laid-back — great for hanging out with friends, catching a game, or just grabbing a solid meal after work. Service was friendly and quick without feeling rushed. Overall, awesome food, great beer, and a chill atmosphere. Definitely one of those spots you come back to again and again.

The Crossing Grill & Bar has been excellent for years and still is. You can make the argument that they are Yuma's best wings and 100% have a case. Service is good. One of my favorite restaurants and I will keep going back. The bad . I ordered a steak and it was probably the worst steak I have ever tried. I say tried because it wasn't edible. It tasted as if it had been frozen for months. It's hard to mess up a ribeye so I'm guessing it was the quality. Prime > choice > select. This steak was not even close to a select. Maybe the crossing can upgrade to a choice and charge a few more bucks. Prime grade is for the steakhouses. Go to the crossing for the great wings and other good options, friendly service and not for a steak.

I've visited the crossing only a handful of times but I have to say the food is bland. I can't speak for all the dishes but what I had last night was by far the worst I've had. I ordered the Santa Fe chicken which came with wild rice and a side of vegetables and their squaw bread. When it arrived the chicken looked burnt and it was not properly prepared. It was missing the jack and Monterey cheese with the green onion topping so I sent it back. Our waitress was very friendly but she didn't know the menu whatsoever. When I received my chicken it was dry, the rice was clumped and the vegetables were grilled and burnt. The chicken tasted a little funny. I'm not sure what kind of seasoning it had but it made the chicken slightly sweet and sour which I didn't care for. My bread looked liked it was warmed up in the microwave...At least I didn't get sick to my stomach from this meal like last time. They have okay salads, the wings according to my boyfriend are the best.

Went to Lunch with my Mom today. The restaurant wasn’t packed nor crowded, plenty of tv’s for Sunday Football and they had great beer on tap! I got the Toasty Amber which was amazing, my mother and I got a half sandwich and soup. Perfect portions, the waitress was pleasant and couldn’t have asked for a better Sunday lunch!

I ordered the double bacon cheese burger medium well done. It came out medium rare. Just the outside about 1/8 of a inch with the inner patty raw. The fries were ok but could have stood either a little longer cook time or maybe a little higher temperature. There was no crisp to the fries. Our waitress was very good and we had no wait time to get a table. We may try them again sometime in the future but I will definitely order my burger well done and the fries extra crispy.

People are great! Service is spectacular. Never have we had a bad experience. The food is always spot on and the prices are great. Take home the ranch dressing, it is top notch.

The freshest calamari I've ever tried in a Bar and Grill. The most flavorful but spicy wings. The waitress was nice and very attentive. 10 out of 10!
