Pizza restaurant
Italian restaurant
Mountain High Pizza Pie is an Italian restaurant located in a charming rustic cabin near Talkeetna, AK. The eatery offers a variety of delicious pizzas, pasta dishes, and refreshing beers for guests to enjoy. With its cozy patio seating and occasional live music performances, it provides a delightful dining experience. It's one of the best restaurants with outdoor seating in the area, making it a popular choice among visitors exploring Talkeetna.
Great pizzeria with delicious pizza pies! The baking style is unique, almost like a smaller version of deep-dish pizza. One small pizza pie is more than enough for one person. Prices are very reasonable, and I highly recommend this spot.

We had lunch and ordered a mountain high pizza pie, a Greek salad and a soup of the day. The anchovies added to the mountain high pizza pie make the pizza very salty, so I recommend leaving them on the side. Overall the pizza was pretty tasty. Additionally, they initially messed up our Greek salad order, however, were very apologetic and quickly replaced the salad! The service was great. The Greek salad on the other hand, is quite Americanized and is not very authentically “Greek”. Lastly, the soup of the day was bean heavy, but pretty good. Their bathrooms are also very clean. Overall the food is pretty good, but leans on the salty side. Definitely a nice spot for lunch!

They had live music which was fun. We sat outside and had Main Street gossip pizza (see picture of menu for description) and veggie pizza. The pizza was amazing, the crust light and crisp. We also had sourdough cheese bread. Delicious!

We had a beautiful day to sit outside on the patio and have a late lunch! Our tour bus driver recommended this and another place and the food was outstanding! Cooked hot and fresh to order, we had to wait just a bit but it was well worth it!

Great pizza in a quaint little town. As soon as you walk in you smell the wonderful pizza flavors. We went for dinner while on vacation and ordered a pizza. They also have sandwiches, soups & a few desserts that all looked fabulous, we were watching them go to other tables. It took about 10-15 mins for our pizza to arrive & we were not disappointed. It was fantastic!!
Cheri B — Google review
It is THE place to eat when in Talkeetna, especially if you are looking for some vegetarian option. They have salads and pizza, and a great vibe! We tried the veggie pizza and it was amazing! Hot, crispy and perfect for our taste.

We ordered a pepperoni pizza. The dough was scrumptious (the only thing I like); the topping was a bit greasy and salty. The server was friendly and it seemed she was the only server the entire time we were there last night around 7:00. Considering the remote location, I suppose the items in the menu are reasonably priced.

Loved the garlic bread! It’s so fresh and garlicky! Must order! We also got veggie pizza with pineapples, loved it! Outdoor was warm with beautiful sunlight!

History Museums
Immerse yourself in the rich history and vibrant culture of Talkeetna by paying a visit to the Talkeetna Historical Society Museum. This captivating museum offers a glimpse into the town's past, featuring exhibits on aviators, gold miners, fur-trappers, and other influential figures in Alaska. Learn about Denali and the Alaska Range while exploring displays on mountaineering and winter sports.
A super informative little museum easy walk from anywhere in town. We'd parked by the river to see Denali and then walked over. After the main building there are two separate exhibits in other buildings and the one about climbs up Denali over the years was our favorite part, but the whole museum is great. Nice selection of books, postcards and trinkets at the front desk as well!
Nicole M — Google review
$10 per person. there is a lot of information on the settlers of this area, as well as a whole building for the climbers of denali.
Mimi — Google review
We were visiting Talkeetna in August, and it was raining hard. This was a great place to spend a rainy day. It had many exhibits, and we learned a lot about climbing Denali.
Catherine H — Google review
A nice museum-like place in a restored and maintained historical house in Talkeetna. Its displays are of the town of Talkeetna and its growth over the years from a railroad, to gold rush, to mountain climbing tourism, until today. An interesting place to visit and learn.
C N — Google review
Small, eclectic museum focusing on old items from the early settlement period. Items have good signage & explanations. Much of the museum focuses on building of the railroad & climbing Denali. Has excellent movies on both subjects and is spread out over three buildings. Has a small gift shop with books, clothes & collectables. Host was very friendly & entertaining. Overall rating 4.5.
Dennis P — Google review
Excellent little museum that delves extensively into the history and associated artifacts of Talkeetna mainly focusing on its period of emergence. Two separate particularly interesting movies cover the creation of the Alaskan railroad and also the details of ascending of Denali (aka McKinley) mountain. For those seriously interested in an ascent of Denali the Walter Harper Talkeetna Ranger Station is a mandatory stop but for those in getting some sense of the ascent challenges then this museum is highly recommended. The image attached is from the Talkeetna Ranger Station.
Aseire ( — Google review
The museum packs a lot into what looks like a small building. While the museum is self-guided, we were very lucky to get a tour from the museum director, Autumn. There are a variety of items from Talkeetna and the greater area. You could easily spend a hour just looking at the Talkeetna diorama. A must visit when in Talkeetna, especially if you like mining, climbing, or trains.

Beautiful museum! I enjoyed the videos of the miners and mountaineering. Would love to see a docu on the indigenous cultures added!

Aurora Dora, a renowned photographer, showcases her stunning images of the aurora borealis in her charming cabin gallery located in Talkeetna, Alaska. Visitors can immerse themselves in the vibrant colors and learn about the northern lights from Dora herself. The shop offers a wide array of captivating photographs capturing the beauty of the auroras around Talkeetna. Additionally, guests can explore the town's history at the museum within Aurora Dora's establishment.
You have got to see these amazing prints. Dora is so passionate about her work, and knows every date, time and location of all of her photos. Her photography has been featured in several publications. She ships all her prints free of charge to the US. Yes, I bought a 20x30 photo on metal that will be my focal point to my soon to be Alaska photos wall home in Florida.
Diane C — Google review
Beautiful little log cabin shop of fabulous photos. Dora was a delight to talk with about her photos and experience! It was tough to choose one, but we love the start to our northern lights living room wall!
Susan G — Google review
My wife and I attended a presentation by Aurora Dora to our Grand Circle Tour group led by Scott Terry. When we had free time in Talkeetna, we went to her studio to pick up one of her prints. The only problem we had was selecting just one of her marvelous pieces of art. We settled on "Talkeetna Aurora & Milky Way". It gave us everything we wanted. We recommend her work to anyone who wants to see the real Alaska.
Tim K — Google review
If you need a reminder of the Aurora, and I most definitely did since the skies were overcast, you can not do better than to visit the Aurora Dora shop. Dora, the owner/photograph, provided me with details on each photo I was interested in. I had a hard time choosing as the photos were beautiful.
Maureen O — Google review
Aurora Dora is an amazing artist and person! I first met Dora at a presentation she gave to my tour group about the Aurora Borealis and her journey to capture its beauty for others to share. She has completely focused her artistic talents to create the most beautiful and unique photo art! More astounding was my visit to her gallery in Talkeetna, AK. It was there that I was able to truly appreciate the intricacies and details of her works. Dora uses a photographic metallic medium that makes the colors pop, just as if you were there experiencing the aurora’s majesty! (without the -40 degree weather). Dora is a consummate businesswoman as well. When my print arrived, I discovered a very small imperfection on the edge of the frame. Without hesitation, Dora reordered another print from the photo lab to make sure that I received a perfect copy. I received the new print quickly and it is hanging in a place of honor in my home. Thank you, Dora, for sharing your passion and photographic abilities with the rest of us!
Kathryn K — Google review
Dora’s shop in Talkeetna is so beautiful! Her photography and artwork is some of the best out there and it was so fun walking around the gallery with her and hearing the details and stories about each photo. She’s so knowledgeable on all things related to the Northern Lights — it’s worth stopping by if you’re visiting Talkeetna!
Christian R — Google review
A unique store that carries beautiful images of the Northern Lights. If you were unlucky like us and didn't get to see the lights during your visit to Alaska, you can purchase a beautiful image of the aurora in this store.
Shahbaz S — Google review
If you are in Talkeetna, make sure you visit Aurora Dora!!! Her prints are gorgeous!!! Her stories, and passion for what she does, makes them even more so! We thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent talking with her! How do you choose just one?? We settled on Bridge on Purple!

Live music bar
Social club
Fairview Inn, established in 1923 to serve travelers on the Alaska Railroad, has a unique history. President Warren G. Harding visited for lunch and passed away shortly after. The inn offers six recently renovated rooms, a bar, and live music events featuring various genres. Located on historic Main Street, the inn is surrounded by art galleries, food trucks, souvenir shops, and log cabins. Despite its small size and shared bathrooms, guests find the accommodations comfortable and functional.
We walked down downtown Talkeetna and chose this place for lunch. The host was super friendly and talked about the menu items. We sat down in the covered patio area which was shaded and roomy. It was a gorgeous sunny day. We ordered the salad and the fish n chips. The batter was a little soft but the halibut couldn't be beaten. It was delicious by any standard. The salad was also very nice. The food is prepared by the two food trucks on the edge of the patio. They are pretty fast and the waitress was working hard. The atmosphere was relaxing

This is the highlight and cornerstone of Talkeetna. Autumn, our bartender, was so nice and informative. The beers are cold, the drinks are great and the salmon chowder is to die for. The inside bar is quite cool/rustic and the outdoor space is trendy/lively/crowded when the bus loads arrive! (Insider tip….hang inside with Autumn! VictorB

It was exactly as advertised, accommodation above the 100 year old pub in Talkeetna. The rooms were basic but spotlessly clean as were the 2 shared bathrooms. The one with the claw bath was great! We were in on a Saturday night so figured we wouldn't get much sleep, but we lucked out as the band was excellent so we partied until 1.00 along with all the locals. Good fun!

Came here for a few drinks while in town. They had live music going. I enjoyed playing ping pong and the axe throwing. Good service at the bar and decent prices for beers.

13Sept2025: Great food Clean and pleasant atmosphere Wonderful vibe The bartender run the whole front of house with precision and efficiency. What a wonderful woman!!!! We were a group of 12, taking up her two booths and a couple of seats at the bar. She was a super star. Drinks were cold, food was hot and delicious. Excellent sized dishes. Several is us had the chowder, yum yum yum. Fish and chips, great seasoning in the fries. The fish was yummy, the batter was just thick enough to give a really nice flavor but not hide the nice fish inside. The shrimp i think was the same batter, very nice. And of course our picky eater enjoyed a very nice cheese burger. Highly recommended.
Chris C — Google review
The patio was great at first - we loved the fire pit and appreciated the blankets provided for customers as it was chilly, but (and this isn’t entirely the restaurant’s fault) the crowds of people coming in from the cruise line buses really put a damper on our experience. There was a very long wait for the bathrooms, food service was slow as there was only a couple of waitresses for the entire place, the food is cooked at a small food truck parked next to the patio so it took awhile due to the crowds, and there were tons of people crowding around the tables arriving from the buses. The menu was limited, with no kids menu as well and the food was pricey for what you get. Overall the taste of the food was decent and I think the patio and our experience would’ve been much different had we not gotten there minutes before hoards of people from multiple cruise lines arrived.
Jenna G — Google review
We stumbled into this place by accident. We’re here mid September & I guess most places have adopted winter hours meaning they don’t open until 4pm. Halibut & chips 9/10 only because there were only 5. Maybe that’s normal, regardless they were really good. Hubby has the sirloin burger and also liked it. Great lil’ outside seating area with a couple fire places for warmth (& blankets upon request) and ambiance. Excellent, polite, helpful staff.

Lodge
Talkeetna Roadhouse offers a variety of accommodation options, from historic stays at the roadhouse itself to more luxurious lodges and rustic Airbnbs nearby. The owner, Trisha, is praised for her COVID-conscious approach and warm hospitality. Guests appreciate the delicious cookies and amazing breakfast featuring reindeer sausage, thick-cut bacon, and sourdough starter dating back to 1902.
Felt nostalgic and if you like to have old house stay kind of gives you can go for it. Didn’t had any issue except they had separate bathroom designated to us. It was quite and served medieval times unique stay for your vacation. I loved it and would definitely recommend it to others. Also should try their chocolate cake without a miss. I bought a piece and regretted not buying the whole cake. I haven’t had such delicious moist cake with perfect amount of everything in it.

We only got items from the bakery - darn glad we did! We got two of the fried pies (pasties) and they were FULL of fruit and made to perfection! We heated for about 15-20 seconds and they were delicious! We also got two cinnamon rolls for the next morning - they were delicious as well. These are the type of cinnamon rolls full of the cinnamon/butter/brown sugar combination! Very sweet, very tasty! Pay attention to the day that you go to Talkeetna as there are shops closed on certain days.

This charming roadhouse was just what my soul needed. Last minute attempt to find a room when the rains poured down on our trip to go camping after sadly not seeing MtMckinley. We got in easily after a quick online reservation was made and the door code given promptly. We stayed in a bunk bed -the last room available but it was comfy and everything we needed was there. Coins for laundry were in the room and would be deducted from our hotel fees so super easy. Soap and shampoo conditioner blow dryers towels in our private bathroom available (our bathroom was down the hall). So many little details that it just felt like you were staying with the best host who genuinely cared you were comfortable. 2 cozy and comfy common rooms had a common room fridge and microwave, sink, etc for storing/warming food and we had the common areas to ourselves in late August. Coffee and to go cups in our room. I still think of this place when I want to go to a happy place. It was glorious. Fire places, puzzles, fun interesting books and games. Even water color or chess all you can eat fresh baked cookies on the counter. Pretty bouquets on the table I could go on.. loved it can’t wait to come back!
Carmella M — Google review
This review is for the bakery only. They offer delicious, freshly baked pastries daily. We especially love their blueberry pastry; we've tried it a few times and it has always been amazing. The reindeer-stuffed pastry was also delicious. Highly recommend this location for a quick bite and coffee.

What an amazing stay! We only stayed one night but it will be a forever memory. Trisha made us feel so welcome. We stayed in the Little Cabin in the back. It was so cozy. Also very clean! And they thought of all the little details to make it feel like home. There is a coin operated laundry just for guests so there isn’t really any wait if you need to do a load or two. The bakery is delicious. We split a cinnamon roll for breakfast & it was so good!
Melinda R — Google review
Soooo good we ended up here THREE times on our trip to Talkeetna. The actual restaurant was closed for the season but the bakery was still open. The Frosty (cinnamon roll) was addicting, the razzy and blueberry turnovers were our favorite. So delicious! Friendly staff and we absolutely loved the atmosphere inside the Roadhouse. Puzzles, books, toys for kids in the coolest setting.
Jenna G — Google review
What a warm and beautiful experience here at Roadhouse! The owner, Trisha, picked me up from the depo and gave me a little tour of the town before welcoming me in. The bunk room was warm, bed comfy, common spaces peaceful, and the bakery next door is divine. As a queer AFAB traveler, I would definitely return.
K — Google review
I am only rating the bakery as I did not stay in the lodge. These are the best cinnamon rolls you’ll ever eat. Ever. The razzie defies logic. I wish they would ship them to the lower 48.

Situated on Main Street, it offers a cozy outdoor seating area where visitors can enjoy their meals while taking in the charming surroundings. The cafe is well-regarded for its tasty treats and is a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
Great decor and the food was great. It took 30 minutes for the food to arrive. Ordered turkey pesto sandwich and everything bagel. They were good. Have a birch and oatmeal cookie for later
James Q — Google review
The food here was on point. It’s everything else that fell short. After ordering we seated ourselves and didn’t wait long for the food. Many of the sandwiches are premade. . The drink took so long we could have been done with our food. Which one person in the group was. Finally the drip coffee and latte came. These came without utensils. Once you finish eating you take your food away to a clean up station. It was located in the corner of the room. It was here we also find utensils, water, cups, etc of the things you may want during a meal. Why on earth would some tip if it’s self serve, poor service for what you do, and leaving out basic information to people who don’t regular your shop. Also, I know places are using water saving faucets but when I came even wash my hands without having the other on the faucet, something is wrong. That’s not sanitary. Again the food was good but everything else fell short. I’d have taken the food to go if I had known. .

The espresso drinks were good, the scone was just okay, the oatmeal and breakfast sandwich were quite good. Service was meh. But, the place is real cute inside, definitely very comfortable, about 10 tables. We spent a good hour here and it would seem customer influx comes in waves. When we came in there were only a couple people here, but while we waited for our drinks, all of a sudden there was a line out the door.

Flying squirrel is unique and really kinda great. The might not be for everyone as some of the menu items can be friendlier to a vegan palat but I always find something I like. The food is great the ambiance is cozy and inviting. You service yourself really which is kinda nice as you can just chill and not be bothered. The pastries can challenge any other great bakery out there and if your lucky you can get them to make you a custom design. Make sure you let them know way in advance.

Talkeetna Spinach Bread is a popular item at various restaurants near Talkeetna, AK. It's often mentioned alongside other dining options in the area. Visitors can enjoy this dish while taking in the outdoor seating offered by some of these establishments. Additionally, there are bed and breakfast accommodations available for those looking to stay nearby and explore the rustic charm of the region.
We noticed a pretty long line for spinach bread so we got in and figured out what the fuss was all about. The spinach bread was delicious. Crunchy on the bottom and savory on top. It had spinach and cheese. It took about 10min to get our slices and it was worth the wait. It was very chewy and oh so good.

Undoubtedly the best Spinach bread and Rhubarb pie I’ve had! Absolutely delicious and out of the world! Warm, fresh spinach bread and the pie is perfect with cream on top! Some lemonade to go with it! Definitely worth it! Do try and enjoy!

This review is from the Alaska State Fair in Palmer Alaska 2025. I love this bread typically but honestly this had too much garlic on it and was a little under cooked for me. They cook this bread on a big pan and then just cut it so your plate might be a little smaller or bigger, which isn’t a big deal because it’s really good. My daughter’s bread was cooked a little longer and tasted better than mine and she bought hers after mine. I still recommend this bread no matter.

Delicious! The rhubarb crisp is good too. They have a few small tables to eat at, parking can be questionable. Cash Only as well so come prepared!! Staff is very friendly and while there is a line, they move pretty fast FYI the mint tea is just normal mint tea but for $5

Everything you may have read about this place is true…provided you read 5 stars. The spinach bread is SO GOOD! This is an airstream trailer with picnic tables. The vibe is old-fashioned Talkeetna. So much fun. We’ll be back because the menu changes daily. And I want more spinach bread.

Amazing spinach bread. If you love garlic, you will be in heaven (if you don’t, I can’t relate to you). Served fresh and hot out of the oven in about 5 minutes. The limeaid sounded good but did t need the extra calories today. Note they are cash only.

Homestead Kitchen is a unique restaurant that emerged during the pandemic, offering a different dining experience where customers order at the counter and receive their food as it's ready. The cozy ambiance of its downtown location and the genuine flavors in the food are heavily influenced by its wild surroundings. Chef Richard Pace's respect for culinary labor is evident in every dish. While some find it fancier than other local spots, it remains one of Talkeetna's top restaurants.
Homestead Kitchen has excellent food, probably the nicest eating establishment in the small town of Talkeetna. The menu is small, but each dish we had was delicious! There are also several kid options. The meatball appetizer was excellent, and so was the broccoli and bean salad and the rhubarb cake. The service was very friendly. There is limited seating inside, but there is plenty of outdoor seating, especially on the side of the restaurant. Great elevated comfort food!

This is a great spot for lunch or dinner. The food was excellent—I especially enjoyed the seafood gumbo, packed with salmon, halibut, scallops, reindeer sausage, and rice, all topped with a puff pastry square. It had a wonderful New Orleans–style flavor. My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich and said it was delicious as well. The staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

This is just a real nice casual restaurant in town here. I think our server was Helen. She’s the one that makes the homemade sangria. She was really friendly and just nice as could be. The other server was really interesting, kind of loud but in an entertaining way. The food was well prepared and very fresh. Just a solid meal out in the middle of nowhere. If the prices seem a little high, remember, they are literally hours from civilization. I imagine just about everything needs to be trucked or by train from Anchorage or trucked down from Fairbanks! The place felt incredibly clean and warm. I’m sure they have rushes but if you get there early for lunch, we were one of the first table seated. It was pretty packed by the time we left.

What's the best way to find a great local restaurant while on vacation? Ask a shopkeeper! That's how I found the Homestead Kitchen in Talkeetna, and I'm so glad I did. The whole experience was unforgettable. My waitress, Holly, was incredibly warm and friendly. She recommended two things I absolutely had to try: the fried pickles and the halibut sandwich. The pickles were a revelation—homemade and sliced like fries, with a perfect batter that made them dangerously delicious. I also ordered the halibut sandwich without a bun, and Holly thoughtfully served it with a side salad and potato chips. The halibut was clearly fresh, which she confirmed, and it was outstanding. It's blueberry season in Alaska, and Holly recommended the cobbler made with fresh blueberries from Hatcher Pass. Wow! It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Holly also shared a bit of her story with me—it's no surprise she used to be a flight attendant, because you can tell how much she genuinely loves people. Great food and terrific service make this a must-visit spot.

wonderful place on Main Street. If you’re looking for standard pub grub there are plenty of options in this cute little town. However, if you’re looking for a unique dining experience with very good food this is the place. They have a number of really unique apps to choose from.. The Swedish meatballs were something special because they used a raspberry rhubarb glaze. I heard the chowder was amazing by some guests next to us. The Elk sloppy Joe was very unique and delicious. The seafood gumbo was outstanding. Do yourself a favor and add the cheese dip as a side if you get a sandwich that comes with homemade chips. It’s perfect for dipping. Don’t forget to order the rhubarb skillet with a scoop of vanilla custard on top to finish off the meal.

We loved the food and the entertaining and efficient server - Archer, from Hawaii! The “Lloyd’s” sloppy Joe was great, as were the meatballs! Nice place, and maybe the best eating on Main Street! VictorB

We were visiting Talkeetna in August and had lunch. It was very busy. The hostess was very nice and let us sit at the bar while we wait. Our server was very friendly. We enjoyed our food, drinks, and the restaurant’s ambiance.

Wowza what a gem and a place to eat, great food, great service and atmosphere. Peter was our waiter and he is from Bulgaria and is a student. He was on top of everything and very attentive. The restaurant is clean and cozy..

I am only rating the bakery as I did not stay in the lodge. These are the best cinnamon rolls you’ll ever eat. Ever. The razzie defies logic. I wish they would ship them to the lower 48.
