Block Island is a picturesque destination known for its swimming beaches, fishing, water sports, and hiking opportunities. It is located in South County, Rhode Island, which includes several charming towns popular for their attractions. The island offers budget-friendly or free activities such as birdwatching, nature bathing, and visiting a museum dedicated to sharks.
Block Island was an experience. All the shops and owners were so inviting. I had a great time and listened to great music! Loved! Would return.

Lovely day trip on the Point Judith Ferry. Loved lunch at Rebecca’s and pastries at Aldo’s Bakery. Beautiful ferry crossing.

Wonderful place to spend a day or more. Took the ferry from Galilee and the ride was pretty calm. I would have loved to spend more time, looked like there were bikes, scooters, maybe horses? Plenty of places to eat and shop, everyone was super friendly. Have to get back there this summer, delightful time!
Theresa J — Google review
Block island is a fun day trip for families. You can get there by small airplane or the Ferry. We chose the ferry, which was part of our day's “adventure.” You can get around the island on mopeds or bicycles. The terrain is relatively flat, so we rented bikes. It was a gorgeous day to explore and enjoy the island's beauty. Make sure you see both lighthouses, walk the stairs at Mohegan Bluffs and enjoy walking through the shops.

My happy place but getting to busy now. To much advertising and island has become to expensive for food and lodging
Nancy C — Google review
Jazz 🎤, ocean view ⛱️, good summer weather good company (even if its your own), a stay on Block Island, New Shoreham is HIGHLY recommended to decompress / destress / relax. Various accommodation options are available from local hotels and inns to rental holiday homes. Various restaurants are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Leave your city attitude where it belongs (in the city). 👌🏽 Recommended stay is a minimum of 5 nights. Getting there is easy: Block Island Ferry ⛴️or fly in.
Taz — Google review
Amazing day trip or vacation, everyone is happy and pleasant once here! There is a great overall vibe on the island and the ferry is pretty cheap. Reccommend checking out some of the nightlife and town restaurants. Beaches amazing!
Mitch C — Google review
This is a great vacation getaway. I know people who go here just for a day trip, I prefer to at least stay one if not two nights just so I can get the full effect. Great bars and restaurants. Food that caters to I'm pretty sure everyone. Kid friendly and pet friendly. Most of the lodging is pretty spendy, as are the drinks and food. You can take a 90 minute ferry for $70.50 per person from New London Connecticut, park at the lot for a $10 a day charge. There are a lot of places to walk on the beach and out on the rock ledges. There are a couple of clubs and live music venues. You can even fly in your small plane or helicopter. Overall a great place to people watch, eat, drink and socialize.

Cliff
Outdoor Activities
Mohegan Bluffs is a stunning natural attraction on Block Island, featuring rocky cliffs that rise 200 feet above a secluded beach. While the shoreline may be relatively small, the dramatic cliffs offer breathtaking views of the ocean. Visitors can also explore Fred Benson Town Beach for facilities and Andys Way by the Great Salt Pond for clamming and kayaking.
This is located close to the South light house on the island. There are lots of steps and has the best views of Atlantic Ocean. Be prepared to carry fluids it gets challenging when climbing the steps back. There’s a view point close by and gives the best views of the wind energy mills in the ocean.

We were sad because all of the moped rentals were out for the day but it was worth the walk the lighthouse. It was a foggy but fun trip.

Great walking area. Beautiful scenery. Great place for photos. We enjoyed the day here walking around looking at the amazing views. The place is very well kept up. There were a lot of people here the day we came. The mansions are totally breathtaking. Great place for a day time date .. definitely will visit here more often

An absolute jewel of a place! We are in Newport for a few days' vacation from NYC. Nature, walking to explore, the Atlantic ocean and photography are what motivates my searches for new experiences. I did a lot of research before coming back to Newport, and serendipitously stumbled upon a mention of Block Island. We took a high speed ferry to get there. The trip takes an hour. You have seven hours to explore the island before it's time to leave. To say we were stunned by the natural beauty of Mohegan Bluffs isn't to say much at all. It's best to see this geological wonder with your own eyes. We love Newport, and try to come for a few days every year, and now, this glorious little gem of an island has become a must-revisit on our Newport getaways.

Historical place
The South East Lighthouse, a striking Gothic Revival-style structure dating back to 1874, stands proudly on the cliffs of Block Island. Initially commissioned by Ulysses S. Grant as a vital lifesaving installation, it was relocated in 1993 to prevent it from succumbing to erosion. The lighthouse now overlooks the nation's first offshore wind farm. Visitors can explore the old harbor before embarking on a journey to reach this historic landmark.
This is the lighthouse which one can have a guided tour. It’s $20 per person for both museum and lighthouse together. The guides were so nice explaining the history and interesting facts about the lighthouse. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Outside the lighthouse there’re spots to view the sea from the top angles, got to be careful as it’s almost at the edges, safety signboards are in places.
Raj B — Google review
The light house is a nice piece of architecture, but both the displays and the tour require payment. You can not enter any part of the light house other than the gift shop without paying. The views are expansive, and there are offshore windmills nearby that you can see from the yard if that also interests you. While I can understand paying to go up into the tower or paying for a guided tour, having to pay to look at the displays was a bit too much. This would be 4 stars otherwise. The lighthouse is about a 60-90 minute walk from the ferry. There are cliff views about 300 feet down the road, which are spectacular, and the lighthouse is a worthy stop on your way to those views.
Jonathan H — Google review
I go each/every year+ other weekends! This was 30th yr storm trysail BI race Week, I attend each(every other year), see in 2027 again. The South East light is so important to much of Block Island light house history!(search discovery or special documentary or other scope) Whole island is great for family, dates, party, wedding, fishing, biking, trails, birds etc.
Marilynn K — Google review
The lighthouse and its adjoining keeper's house is a historic structure that still provides a lightouse for the safe navigation of vessels. The building was moved from its original position facing the southeast to a position a few hundred feet back from the eroding bluffs. A tour through the museum shows the efforts needed to relocate the structures. An additional tour brings guests into the lighthouse up to the lense through which the light signal directs ships and vessels clear of the island and dangers along the coast. The tours are well worth the time and small expense.
Lew F — Google review
Breathtaking views. It is amazing to think they moved the fully intact building to keep it from falling off the bluff. A must see.
Susan M — Google review
Beautiful lighthouse with neat history! This is a must see while you are there. It’s just crazy history that they moved it.
Erik S — Google review
The lighthouse is beautiful, but this review is about the little food truck, Southeast Lighthouse Delights. I had the best scallops, in a scallop roll, that I've ever had and the lobster grilled cheese was out of this world! If we hadn't rented a vehicle and driven the island, we would have never found this place, nor those scallops. The perfect combination of sweet buttery goodness and the salty ocean. Divine!

Outdoor Activities
Mansion Beach is a hidden gem nestled within the stunning Crescent Beach area, which spans two miles and includes several other beautiful beaches. This secluded spot is perfect for those looking to unwind while soaking up the sun or enjoying a leisurely stroll along its sandy shores. Accessible by car, bike, or on foot, Mansion Beach offers limited parking but rewards visitors with breathtaking views of the surrounding cliffs and ocean.
Beautiful beach!! The water was clear, sand is perfect, and super fun waves. We rode our moped here and got a $50 ticket. Apparently you can't drive the moped on the dirt road that leads to the beach?? We had no idea so getting a ticket was a bummer, a sign stating no mopeds would've been helpful. Anyway, was well worth $50 to spend a few hours at Mansion Beach!
Michael K — Google review
Beautiful beach with a perfect view and fantastic location. An ideal place for relaxation and enjoying a peaceful environment!
Leonid P — Google review
My favorite beach on the Block! Had no problem getting a parking spot; restroom close to beach; easy walk to beach.
Karen P — Google review
My favorite beach on block island- beautiful, somewhat more secluded and less crowded than some of the beaches closer to old harbor. It’s on the northernmost portion of crescent beach, so not walking distance from old harbor, but definitely do-able via bike. The side road to access the beach is dirt so mopeds aren’t allowed.
Emily S — Google review
This beach has a very small parking area so car-pool, plan according. It's also quite a bit of a walk if you have lots of gear to carry BUT it's all worth it. The sand is soft and the water was clean. The kids loved the waves. And I took a stroll to the left and came across the cliffs and rocks. A very nice beach. Also no changing area. Just 3 porta potties.
Margaret H — Google review
Amazing beach! The water is very clear and the sand is very soft. The seafloor can be rocky. It’s easy to walk to from the parking lot and there’s quite a lot of space. Even during COVID, it was easy to keep at least 6ft apart from other people. Also, it’s dog friendly!

Frederick J. Benson Town Beach is a vibrant oceanfront destination that caters to beachgoers looking for convenience and comfort. With amenities such as lifeguards, restrooms, and food options nearby, it’s an ideal spot for families and those wanting to relax by the sea. Visitors can rent chairs and umbrellas to enhance their experience while soaking up the sun on this popular stretch of sand. Although some may find algae along the shore, many still rave about its charm and accessibility.
Really nice beach with super clear water that is easy to get to from the ferry. We were on the southern end out of the main area and loved it. The clarity of the water was very rare for New England. Would recommend for those doing day trips.

This is one of the best beaches in Block island. It’s around 15 min walk from the port. Better to go on bikes or car. They have ample parking and shower area. It has nice coast to walk or sit and relax and enjoy the views. This place gets busy on weekends be prepared to walk a bit to find the best spot to set up your umbrellas and chairs.

Bar & grill
Poor People's Pub is a laid-back, surf shack-style hangout located in Old Harbor. Founded by two unemployed contractors in 1974, this indoor-outdoor restaurant and bar offers inventive casual grub alongside beer and cocktails. The menu features house specialties like barbecued pulled pork mac & cheese and fun snacks such as lasagna dip and crispy fish sticks. Additionally, healthier options like the 'power lunch' salad are available.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Outdoor service which other restaurants in the vicinity don't provide. Was my birthday lunch and I couldn't be happier. We had the pigs in a blanket and the rucola pizza which were both exceptional. They allowed my dog to sit out on the patio which was a must. Highly recommend!!!!

Poor People’s Pub has hands down the BEST MacBurger I’ve ever had. I don’t know what kind of magic they’re working back there, but this burger is on another level. It’s so good, it actually fools me every time like, how can something this delicious be real? The flavor is amazing, the patty is perfectly cooked, and that mac and cheese combo is chef’s kiss. It’s cheesy, juicy, and just ridiculously satisfying. I keep thinking about it even after I leave. Seriously, if you haven’t tried the MacBurger, you are missing out big time. Super nice spot, too. Great vibes, great people, and that MacBurger? Just wow. I LOVE it🥳🥳😍😍

The food in the smoker smells so good and we can smell it from a mile away! As soon as I saw the smoker I knew I had to try their food. The atmosphere is pleasant. The staff were amazing and knowledgeable. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The price is reasonable and well worth it. I tried the delicious Mac n cheese with brisket. I let my friend try it, she nearly ate my plate of food. I highly recommend it!

Perfect comfort food in great location, good service. We had great food here last year and had to go back. Mac&Cheese was heavenly and truffle fries are addictive. We liked the BBQ. S’more pizza was perfectly done. Quahog was great! (Think called stuffies? Everyone was happy and just perfect after a day on the beach.

This is an exciting and very affordable place to stop if you’re trying to change it up from seafood to amazing BBQ and smoked meats. We had the barbecue platter, which is more than enough for two people, and that included smoked brisket, pulled pork and Burnt ends with cornbread, Mac and cheese and coleslaw as sides.

Perfect! Little dive bar/ pub/ Cafe. Good little menu with a nice assortment of some unique classics and pub food with a little twist. Got there at Filet-O-Fish which was a fantastic fried cod sandwich and was as good as any. I've had just a cool little dive bar and good spot to stop for a bite and a little nostalgia. Very cool t-shirts at the bar for a souvenir. I like reviewing feel

The Oar is a laid-back American restaurant located at the Boat Basin in New Harbor, offering picturesque views of the Great Salt Pond. The menu features a variety of options including seafood, steaks, and an impressive sushi selection. The restaurant's charming decor includes colorful oars adorning the walls, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Guests can enjoy their meal on the back deck with stunning views or on the expansive lawn overlooking New Harbor.
Stopped in for their famous mudslide and it did not disappoint—perfectly creamy, just the right kick, and exactly what a summer day calls for. Sipping it while taking in the view of the boat basin made the whole experience even better. Great spot to relax, take in the scene, and treat yourself. Highly recommend!

Was okay.... service was very quick... food came before drinks... lobster club was out delicious, chowder was just ok. View was incredible! Very low key vibes.
A.S. — Google review
Part of my Block Island tradition is enjoying a lobster club sandwich at The Oar, and this trip I came with a group of nine. When we checked in, we were told we were the only large party, yet we ended up waiting what felt like an hour. When I mentioned this to our waitress, she snapped back that it had been “39 minutes.” I asked her to double-check, and soon after we were told our table was being cleaned and would be ready in 10 minutes. When we walked up, the manager George, who I’ve seen here throughout more than a decade of visits, was his usual warm and genuine self. He personally apologized for the delay, and that sincerity more than made up for the rocky start. Once seated, our experience turned around completely. Our waitress Lindsay was an absolute gem! Kind, attentive, and patient, even with three fussy kids in the mix. The food was excellent as always, and The Oar continues to deliver on the reasons it remains a staple in my Block Island rotation.
Barnie K — Google review
Jeff was a spectacular waiter. He never made us feel that he was too busy even though it was packed. He made our day with his positivity and smile. The woman behind the bar sadly was blatantly annoyed being there... The girl checking us in was definitely not happy. California rolls were delicious as was lobster rolls. We had dinner one evening and hamburgers were meh...we would definitely go back for sushi ... Jeff... And the view
Patt P — Google review
Second time coming here and probably my favorite dinner and drinks on the island. The sushi is outstanding, the mudslides are the closest thing to perfect that I’ve ever had, the service is great, and the place is so big you don’t have to worry as much about not getting a table on a busy weekend
Thomas M — Google review
We enjoyed a great lunch on a high top in the bar area. I was able to have a gluten free Tuna dish, they do offer a gf “soy sauce” option. Service was great and our server was knowledgeable about gluten free options. They do not have a designated gf fryer. Great atmosphere inside and out. The outside does offer seating with a view and cornhole games for guest to play.

The restaurant offers craft cocktails and locally sourced cuisine in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. With a diverse menu featuring creative entrees, craft drinks, and even a dedicated vegetarian menu, Eli's has something for everyone. Additionally, the restaurant is praised for its friendly staff and honest service.
We went here for dinner. This place is purely indoors and very nice. The waiters were very attentive and constantly filling waters and checking in. We got an assortment of appetizers, such as the BLT sliders, scallop seviche, Tuna nachos, deep fried avocado, and empanadas. We shared them all around. the portions were a bit smaller for sharing, but we made it work. Then for dinner we got a variety of the entres. 5 of us got the burger, and everyone deeply enjoyed it.
Iris D — Google review
As first time visitors to block island we didn’t have a good idea of where to eat but we stumbled on this place and loved it. The food and service was so good we came back the next day to try some of the other dinner items. We had the cod, salmon and shrimp pesto and all were so good. The salmon was the best and I am pretty picky when it come to salmon. Also had the margarita and it hit the spot.. we would definitely recommend!
Kathy C — Google review
Really nice low-key restaurant in town. Ambiance was super chill. The tuna nachos were amazing and a must order in my opinion if you love tuna tartare. They make a really good cosmopolitan that I paired. For my main I got the 8oz bavette steak and it was great. The creamy onion and horseradish crema was a little overwhelming so I would have gotten it on the side had I known. Still really enjoyed though, the bacon & manchego loaded baked potato cake and roasted broccoli complimented really well. Their espresso martini was also really good so it seems all the drinks are on point. Would definitely return here
Justin F — Google review
Wonderful little spot for fantastic food! We ate there this April in the shoulder season and had three absolutely wonderful entrees. The shrimp pesto pasta was a particular standout. Waitstaff were attentive and did a great job keeping everything moving on a busy evening. Highly recommend.

A group of friends and I had a wonderful dining experience at Eli’s in the early spring at the tail end of off season. It’s helpful to know that the space is small but full of character! It’s busy and at least in the end of off season they don’t take reservations, so show up early or plan to hang out a bit and enjoy a walk around town! The food was delicious and the server was very kind. I highly recommend!

Eli's restaurant is a gem on block island. Not a big selection but a lot of attention is paid to each appetizer, entree and each dessert. Top shelf kind of place to eat at. This place would be recommended if it was in any metropolitan area. Cramed dining area.

While known for its fresh seafood, the menu also features burgers and sandwiches. My first time on Block Island. Spent my 4th anniversary 8/27 with my fiancee checking out shops and hanging out on the beach. I did some GOOGLING for what we may want for dinner and these seemed like the place. Not one thing was bad. The staff were kind and polite. Service was quick. The appetizer and entrée were amazing. I am a picky eater but I tried a few new things and everything was amazing. If or when we go back to Block Island we will come back. I would highly recommend people try them out!
James G — Google review
As with most places on Block Island, this place is all about the views and the vibes but man, I just wish I didn’t have to pay $30-$40 for unseasoned food that seemed to come directly out of a plastic bag. And, unfortunately, the drinks were also not fresh (strawberry mule tasted like the strawberry was poured from a kids’ juice box). Sigh, the price of paradise.
Laura B — Google review
Nice location not far from the ferry and close to beaches. Indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good and well priced. I only gave 4 stars because they didn’t have too many options for entrees if you didn’t want seafood or a sandwich. But over all we had a good experience and would come back.

Very nice restaurant. The view is the most amazing part- can look across to see the ocean and the other direction to see the island. Tons of outdoor seating and good service. Incredible seafood and incredible views- We tried the seafood nachos here and oh my god, we still talk about it till this day. The amount of seafood it came with blew us away. The scallops, shredded crab, and shrimp were literally pilled on top of each other, tasting like it had all just been caught out the sea. The sauce they drizzled over all of it, coupled with the cheese, was just too too good. All this seafood goodness cost us just $20 too. The drink selection was also pretty neat, with lots of local selections from nearby coastal towns. Overall, can’t recommend this spot enough.
Ahmed — Google review
Sat outdoors, across from the dune and sea, lovely. Service was friendly and good. Had hand-breaded fresh clam strips that were sweet and delicious. The seafood nachos was huge and also delish. Drinks come in tall glasses; my only negative as I find the ratio of alcohol to mixer too small. But that's it. Great otherwise!
