Parks
Nestled in the heart of Indiana, Brown County State Park is a breathtaking escape that spans nearly 16,000 acres of rugged terrain. Often referred to as the 'Little Smokies' due to its striking resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, this park boasts an array of outdoor activities for nature enthusiasts. With over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails winding through picturesque landscapes, visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of tree-lined roads and scenic vistas that showcase uninterrupted forest views.
A lovely state park. If you enjoy hiking and difficult bike trails, this is the park for you! If you want a more leisurely experience, the lodge and cabins are great and it has the aquatic center which is a big hit. Town is close and full of great shops and restaurants. We love camping here and actually just rented the recreation building to have our wedding in! It was wonderful

Brown county is a must go spot for Fall and beware everyone goes there for Fall! Last weekend was very crowded taking about 30 minutes just to cross the entrance. Past the crowd, the views were everything! It was eye candy and so worth the traffic, wait time and people. The park itself is very huge and has a couple entrance points and is well maintained. We hiked the Straul Lake hike and it’s an easy 1 mile hike which had exceptional views- I just couldn’t stop looking! The lookout points are another easy way to stop and click pictures, enjoy the views and just relax. Beware that internet depending on your provider can be hard to find. All in all brown county is a name for a reason. So worth the hype!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 🤩loved it!!! Brown County State Park – Indiana’s hidden natural treasure! Located in Nashville, Indiana, Brown County State Park is the largest state park in the state and truly one of the most scenic spots in the Midwest. It’s about 1 hour from Indianapolis, 2 hours from Louisville (KY), 2.5 hours from Cincinnati (OH), 3.5 hours from Chicago (IL), and 4 hours from St. Louis (MO) — making it an easy road trip destination from several major cities. From the moment you drive through the forested entrance and the historic covered bridge, you can feel the peaceful atmosphere take over. The park features miles of hiking and biking trails, scenic overlooks, picnic areas, and horseback riding at the Brown County Saddle Barn. The views are absolutely breathtaking — especially from the fire tower, where you can see endless hills and colorful treetops. The Hoosier’s Nest cabin and the historic buildings scattered around give the park a charming, nostalgic feel. Everything is clean and well maintained, including rest areas and visitor facilities. Entry was $9 per vehicle, and it’s open 24 hours, so you can enjoy sunrise or sunset views over the hills. Whether you’re planning a quick weekend escape or a full camping adventure, this park is perfect for nature lovers, photographers, and families. 🌲🍁🐴🦆🐝🌳🪵

We brought our kids here to go camping for a couple of nights mid-week. It was awesome! We have camped at a couplecof other places, but the Taylor Ridge campground was really nice. The spots are a little tight with all of the trees, but it really feels secluded. The bath house was clean and well stocked. It rained about half the time we were there, but when we were able to get out, my kids had an absolute blast. They loved the nature center and we were able to go on several trails that were perfect for them. Everybody was really sad when it was time to leave this morning. We are looking to go back as soon as possible!

From views as far as the eye can see, to the endless smells of nature. Had a wonderful day with my roommate at Brown County State Park. I recommend using the restroom prior to hiking. The trails are relatively easy to follow. Got off track once, had help from one of the workers to pick it back up. Hospitality of the employees were great. They have a couple of fire watch towers, just note they are closed at the top. Still can appreciate the view from the highest point. Would recommend & looking forward to going back.

So nice to return to this grand state park after a 13 year hiatus. Was surprised at how lovely the 7 Vista Challenge was - the views were spectacular and I ended up stopping at more vista points than required because it was so interesting to read the signs and learn more about the park. Hiked on numerous trails which provided lots of challenge (love how the locals pass me with ease as I huff & puff up the ravines) ... Both lakes were spectacular to see at this time of the year with the leaves changing color. We camped on-site and found all of the facilities clean & in working order. All of the DNR staff was super helpful. The Nature Center here was chock full of great information about the local habitat, flora, & fauna. While I have no interests in snakes, it was helpful seeing the real deal with the 2 venomous snakes at the Nature Center so I knew what to look out for on the trails.

Beautiful, even when it sleets on you while hiking! I can see how this would get crowded during peak fall foliage! Beautiful place. The lodge had delicious smells emanating from it! 🥰 The mini water park looks nice, though it can't handle large numbers, it still would be fun!

Oh my lord. I love Brown County State Park. When I entered Nashville, Indiana it was like entering a fairy tale land. A small town secluded in a valley. There are fun things to do like climbing a fire tower and sitting down to appreciate the view of the Indiana valleys. I tell people as someone born and raised in this state- if you really want to see the beauty of Indiana go to the southern half. I came here during the summer but I hear the park is even more beautiful during the fall. The photographs do not do the park enough justice.

Brown County Winery is a delightful gem that offers an impressive selection of wines, making it a must-visit for any wine enthusiast. Guests are treated to six complimentary samples, which is a rare find these days and adds to the overall experience. The tasting room boasts ample seating both indoors and on the charming outdoor patio, perfect for enjoying a bottle of chilled wine while soaking in the beautiful scenery—especially stunning during fall.
Cute spot that has fabulous wine! I really enjoyed the Autumn White and the Vignoles, and if you like fruit wines then you'll love the ones they have here. Complimentary tastings too which is such a nice perk! Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

What a lovely hidden gem tucked away in the scenic beauty of Nashville, Indiana. Brown County Winery offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. We stopped in during a casual visit and were greeted by a wonderfully friendly staff member who made our entire tasting experience feel like catching up with an old friend. One of the most pleasant surprises? They don’t charge for tastings! You can sample up to six wines, and the selection was both varied and delightful. I tend to prefer sweeter wines, but I ended up purchasing three bottles that leaned more semi-sweet—each with its own. I, absolutely raved about their bourbon barrel, aged port and walked away with three bottles of my own. Beyond the wine, the shop is stocked with all kinds of wine-related accessories, local treats, cheeses, and charming gifts. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time just browsing and chatting. The prices were more than reasonable, and the quality was excellent. Though we visited in early spring, I can imagine how beautiful it must be in the summer—sipping wine on a patio surrounded by the rolling hills of Brown County. This is definitely a spot we plan to revisit, ideally when we can linger longer, maybe enjoy a picnic or a slow afternoon outdoors. If you’re wine tasting through southern Indiana, Brown County Winery is a must-stop. Friendly people, great wine, and the kind of vibe that makes you want to come back again and again.

Truly a hidden gem, yes there are many options for winery's on the main strip, but this was WELL worth the less than 5 minute detour. Wine was priced incredibly well, very excited to try it. The staff there were very friendly. You could see some of the machines used to make the wine from the tasting room, which was very neat. The outdoor patio was a beautiful place to just sit and chat for a bit, with flowers, butterflies, and even humming birds to keep us company. Felt like something out of a movie more than anything!!

My wife and I stopped here on our way to Nashville recently and were very pleasantly surprised. We had the pleasure of being served by Zach, who was knowledgeable, attentive and super personable. He made our day! The wines we tried were very good, and the seating outside on the patio was pleasant, despite it being a very hot and muggy day. We were so glad we stopped in!

Excellent winery...Teresa and Chelsea were great hosts...purchased two of their finer sweet wines for my personal collection;

We came here Saturday as part of my sister's bach trip and a great time trying wines. Six samples for five dollars is a great deal, and the bottles are very fairly priced. The employees were very knowledgeable about the area and helped us with ideas for the rest of our day and evening. I recommend coming here for your wine needs and definitely try the blackberry!
Danielle G — Google review
I really enjoyed this place. First off great variety to try. Second they give you 6 free samples which is unheard of these days but I really appreciate that. There were very good about waiting on us even though it was crowded. Love the Blackberry wine if you like sweet wines. Definitely try the port wines if you like that style they were deliciously smooth and tasty with a kick. We were fortunate enough To be there on a sunny day so set on the porch and drank a bottle of chilled win. Great way to spend an afternoon. Reasonable prices for their wines just make it that much better. Weekends Definitely csn get crowded especially in nice weather.

On my recent adventure, I had the pleasure of visiting Bear Wallow Distillery, a hidden gem that truly impressed me. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it easy to relax while sampling their impressive selection of handcrafted spirits. I particularly enjoyed the Gnawbone Single Barrel bourbon, which stood out for its rich flavor profile. The owner, Susan, shared her inspiring story about how the distillery came to be and provided insightful details about each product during our visit.
Bear wallow is the oldest distillery in Indiana. Their words. And is tucked away off a small highway off a small road in Brown county near the state park. The area is awesome. The facility is a blend of old style and new productions. Using a pot still (which I like) Bear Wallow is making some stand up rye and bourbons. Definitely worth the stop and see.

Saw the billboard on the highway. 15 minutes later I was there. Awesome drive in with huge, beautiful trees along the way. Met the owners on my visit. Very friendly atmosphere. Bought a couple of bottles. Great Bourbon and Rye recipes. Very beautiful area to explore. Plenty to see and hear about the area. Planning a return trip to spend a few days. Five Stars

We went there and had a very pleasant time. There was no rush, no hard sale tactics. The proprietor gave a short explanation of the works and then said to take our time going through the shop. When we got to the bar area I told him what I liked and did like. He picked out 2 different whiskeys and face me a sample they both were very good but I chose the 46 brand. It was a great time made better by the gentleman that helped us!!

Great little distillery with some quality Bourbons available. The tasting session is well worth it, and you get to try some excellent micro-brewed alcohols. There is also a small shop with many interesting items on sale.

This place is a hidden gem. Plenty of moonshine flavors that you won’t find anywhere else, and a nice selection of aged whiskey from bourbon to rye to cask strength and aged bourbons finished in different barrels. Prices are reasonable and even the cocktails are amazing. Really can’t wait to go back and take a tour.

Visited Bear Wallow on a recent trip. Had the opportunity to meet the owner and sample a flight of their whiskeys. My personal favorite bourbon is Weller 12 & I prefer wheated, full flavored spirits. That said, I was very impressed with their handmade products. Particularly enjoyed the Gnawbone Single barrel. My friends have been equally impressed. Definitely recommend stopping by. Great, comfortable atmosphere with friendly staff and top drawer products

My wife and I had a great time today stopping in! (March of 2022) Austin led us through a tasting and was super knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up buying a bottle of their single barrel, barrel proof offering that was delicious. If you're ever nearby, definitely stop in and visit this craft distillery that does things the right way.

The site features beautifully maintained grounds adorned with diverse gardens that bloom vibrantly throughout the seasons, making each visit unique.
Absolutely Amazing. This historic sites has nice gardens, a woodland walk, and the T C Steele Museum and Tour. The tour is a must, our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour a really interesting event. The paintings are really good and you can get up close to them. I loved the wildlife in the gardens as well.

A sprawling estate with gorgeous gardens, tranquil forest paths and beautiful buildings. This is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening exploring. When me and my wife went we were in a bit of a time crunch to get back to our house but we're able to spend about an hour walking the forest trails, exploring the gardens and taking in the scenery. Would recommend, and especially if you can make a tour.

Very nice tour at Steele’s home and art gallery. Very knowledgeable tour guide. Beautiful original art from Steele is presented. The grounds are nice but we did not tour it. It was too hot. The garden of flowers did not have much because it was middle of August and not much rain so nothing there of interest. They said spring is a nice time for flowers.

We had an amazing time at the Brown County Playhouse! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the music was incredible. We saw the Fleetwood Mac Tribute band, and they absolutely nailed it—such a fun and nostalgic performance. The drinks were great, and the seating setup was perfect. Big Woods Pizza is a laid-back eatery known for its signature pizzas and house-brewed ales. The pizza here is highly praised, with pillowy soft crust, crispy bottom, and gooey cheese. The menu also includes options like chicken panini and side salads with Greek dressing and croutons. The restaurant offers varied seating options including upstairs, downstairs, and outside. It's family-friendly with appropriately sized kids' pizzas served with fresh fruit as a side.
We ate dinner at Big Woods Pizza. The sausage pizza was delicious, hot from the oven. We were also anxious to sample the Quaff On beer flight by Hard Truth. Our favorites were the Strawberry Blonde and the Peanut-butter beers. We also liked the creative PB&J beer, which is made by combining half of each of the strawberry and peanut butter beers. So interesting! The service was outstanding! The menu also included a good variety of salads and other items.

My husband and I went twice on our honeymoon trip in September because it was so good. The first time we got drinks and knew we had to come back for food the next day! We got the pepperoni pizza and sticks, needless to say we ended up coming back again 2 months later for the BBQ pizza and sticks. Amazing food, nice service, and a good atmosphere!

Big Woods pizza is amazing! We ordered the Margherita pizza and it was delicious—the crust was perfect and the toppings were so fresh. The service was also excellent and the atmosphere was really fun. Highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area. A note on the drinks: I ordered a Hard Truth Vodka and soda with lime and it was perfect. I'm usually a big Tito's fan, but this was exceptionally smooth and refreshing. It's a must-try if you're a vodka-soda person!"

One order of bread sticks and cheese, on pork nachos 2 different pieces of hair in each. One black one dog and I don’t have either. I did still tip and our waiter was sweet. Avery though was not our waiter but was weird and was not talking to his coworkers in an appropriate manner due to the girl worker who passed him and said he can’t say things like that. But we were sat by the enter and exit of the kitchen door. On top of a hefty wait time of 90 minutes it’s basically another pizza place with high prices

Loved dinning here. Only got beer and an appetizer but enjoyed it. Sat upstairs at the bar area. Only single restrooms in the restaurant. I enjoyed the privacy. Better service than the big woods in town where I live. At first I asked to be seated at a table. I had requested upstairs but the hostess tried to seat us downstairs. That is when I just went upstairs to the bar because they said I'd have to go back on the wait list. It worked out. The wait wasn't long at first, 15 minutes.

Hobnob Corner is a charming American eatery located in an 1873 landmark building in the heart of Nashville, IN. Despite its touristy location, the food here exceeded expectations with delicious offerings such as pot roast sandwiches and Reubens that rival those found in New York-style delis. The attentive and friendly staff contribute to the welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that both locals and out-of-town visitors feel equally valued.
Very nice interior, old fashioned but aestheically pleasing. I got a seasonal asparagus dish, and my mom got a small sized tuna melt. We both liked our food. We also got the Strawberry shortcake for dessert, and that was pretty good. My mom rated that one as average. I would recommend!

This is a rustic restaurant serving up American fare right in the heart of Nashville. We stopped in on a Saturday morning and we're able to get a table right away, though if you aren't there early expect to wait a bit. The food was tasty and the portions were relatively large as well. I especially liked the biscuits and gravy. Service was friendly and the food came out relatively quick. Bonus points because the place is in a historic building which really adds to the overall vibe!

I've been to this restaurant many times and it never disappoints. Went with my parents and it was so delicious. It is so sad that they are having to close after so many years of business. Each of us really enjoyed what we ordered. The staff was very personable and very attentive to our orders and drinks. Will look forward to the anticipated cookbook of the food they served for many years.

This is a must go to when you’re in Nashville but….we’ve been before and enjoyed it a lot more. Tonight my hubby had the pot roast sandwich with horseradish, sautéed onions, cheese on a brioche bun. Meat was tender and juicy and the broccoli was real good. He really liked it. I had French onion soup. Didn’t taste like French onion soup I’m used too, I’m not sure what kind of cheese was on it but maybe a mix of cheddar and?, also the broth wasn’t dark and some onions weren’t done. I dunno, I’ve had a lot of different FOS and this is at the bottom of my list. It was served with a dill roll that was good. We chose strawberry shortcake for dessert. Now there were lots of strawberries and whipped cream and a big chunk of “shortcake”. We couldn’t decide what was in the “in-house recipe shortcake” but we didn’t care for it. Also we believe it had yogurt spread on top. It was a large serving plenty for two but eh.

Great place for a meal while you're in town. It's busy at times but even during peak season there were less busy times. Are breakfast and had the salmon eggs Benedict. Came back and had the duck special in the evening and was quite pleased with both experiences. The wait staff was friendly and attentive even when very busy.

Enjoyed dinner here on our first night in Nashville. The restaurant has a quaint, country feel with excellent service. The menu is diverse and all the food we ordered exceeded our expectations. We ordered the Seared Tuna, Shrimp and Grits, Open Faced Steak Sandwich, and Kids Spaghetti. Check out their specials- they also have a nice variety of baked goods and deserts. The coffee toffee pie was delicious. Make sure to check their operating hours as they aren't open every day.

Lovely Fall afternoon, we sat out on the patio and we were promptly greeted, given menus, and were told about the special craft beer selection and menu items. First time visiting Nashville & staying in an older hotel like this. Location is absolutely perfect for being right near everything! Parking in the lot behind, make sure you go inside and get the parking tag before paying the $15 that I did, but we did get there at 8 am and walked all over town before checking in at 4pm. It is an older building, the rooms do show the age and the walls are thin so you'll hear everything!!! Wish they would've had a mini fridge for the leftovers we had to toss. The bed was pretty comfortable and everything appeared pretty clean for the most part. Price was high but I did book last second as we just wanted to explore a new place so if you book ahead it is a little cheaper. Would stay here again if we visit.

For almost twenty years this has been our go to restaurant when we visit Nashville. Yesterday we were surprised by the menu changes. They’ve dropped a lot of what made them a cozy home cooked atmosphere. The selection is minimal, the prices very high, and the food just okay. We will miss the old Artist Colony. Our search is on for our new go to place.

Awesome spot, perfect place to stay for getting a good look at nashville, we had a cozy quaint little room themed for George La Chace a founding brown county painter, I loved learning about him that night while snuggled up to my beautiful girlfriend on the 3rd floor! Our room at the Inn was small but clean and comfortable. Our meals at the restaurant were outstanding and the service throughout was excellent. The food is so well prepared and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Emily, our server today, gets 6 stars!

My husband and I loved staying at the Inn! The staff was very friendly and our room was quaint and super clean! Plenty of hot water for our showers. We also enjoyed the view out the window of the bustling street and shops below. Definitely will stay here again someday.

I don't like to leave bad reviews, but my experience was very poor. My son was served cold food, so cold that He didn't eat it for fear of food poisoning. Several others in our party also recieved cold food, mashed potatoes that were basically congealed, cold meatloaf, my burger was warm but not hot, my fries were cold. There were numerous other issues, too many to mention. This used to be a decent place, but the food quality is no longer any good. I will not return.

Wonderful food and nice servers. Most of us had a fish dish and the kids had burgers. It's in the heart of downtown Nashville IN surrounded by artsy speciality shops, ice cream and book stores. Such a great little town to visit.

Out Of The Ordinary and Hickory Bar is a laid-back local pub in Nashville, IN that offers sports on TV, cocktails, beer, and hearty sandwiches. It has a welcoming atmosphere with great service and delicious food. The menu includes comfort grub like breaded pork tenderloin, fettuccine pasta, Reuben sandwich, chicken wings, house salad with homemade croutons, tomato soup and chili. The bar area is perfect for smaller groups while the dining area can accommodate larger parties.
Came to Nashville for my bachelorette party, where we decided to dress up as hillbillies and go out to dinner. We chose out of the ordinary, and before we even entered the restaurant we were greeted by amazing staff, and an awesome waiter who handled a group of 7 drunk girls acting like rednecks AMAZINGLY. Everyone was so kind and inviting, the food was good too. If you’re in Nashville on a girls trip, or for any reason, and you need a place with a fun, laid back atmosphere, I highly recommend!

I got the tenderloin with onion rings, my boyfriend got the steak sandwich with fries. Both were wonderful- especially the fries and onion rings. The onion rings came with a sauce very similar to outback’s bloomin onion sauce. The tenderloin was on the thicker side which isn’t my preference but it was still good. We also got loaded potato skins as an appetizer which were great- I think probably my favorite park of the meal. They have a great house-made ranch. Our host and server were both very sweet and provided great, fast service. Everything came fresh and hot, and in very good time. I’ll definitely come back here next time I’m in the area!

Flip of a coin whether you'll like the food here. The reviews are all mixed opinions, and my family experienced the same thing. I liked my pulled pork sandwich, but the pork tenderloin and Cuban were just alright. The pulled pork was well-seasoned and juicy, a nice thick layer on a soft bun. I paid $4 extra for the side of onion rings (which were very good) and I liked putting some on my sandwich. The pork tenderloin was tender and the vegetable side was fine, but neither made much of an impression. Veggie of the day was zucchini, peppers, and onions. The Cuban sandwich didn't have much meat on it but tasted okay as well. The side of chips were just regular ruffled potato chips. Overall our experience was ordinary, and didn't leave a strong impression one way or another.

In town for a little getaway. I heard a lot about their ribeye steak and decided to give it a try. I, of course, ordered the ribeye *blackened*with a side salad w a side of the pesto vinaigrette and the vegetable of the day (zucchini and roasted peppers). The salad was very good, but tiny for the price. It had spring mix, cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, cheese, onions, seeds, and croutons. The side of zucchini & peppers were a VERY SMALL portion. I counted about 9 half thin slices of zucchini with a couple of pepper slices/red onion. The ribeye was ok. It had a few tender parts, but the middle of the steak was pretty tough (meat grain was comparable to a sirloin). It's definitely not worth $30. My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich with potato chips and the meatball sandwich for later on. He said the Cuban was very good, but the meatball sandwich was excellent. Our server was very friendly and attentive. If I were to go back, I would stick to a sandwich. It's a little pricey for what you receive. I took about half of my steak back to our hotel and bought a full house salad for later. Overall, the establishment was nice and cozy.

Warning, its very ordinary. Menu is typical sandwiches and salads, nothing interesting. Food wasn’t bad, but wasnt good either. A $15 tenderloin sandwich comes with chips that are probably Ruffles Very salty. Atmosphere? Music from the 70s, but only the most mainstream and ordinary- Eagles, Bob Seeger (boomer music?) So, if you’re a fan of these ordinary things, this is your place! Server was very attentive and helpful. I didnt drink at the bar, so maybe there’s something extraordinary there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ok hear me out, don't judge the food by the look. Your eyes deceive you as the food is the best around. My wife and I visited here in late October and not only is the area beautiful, this restaurant knocked out socks off. I had the reuban and my wife had the fettuccine alfredo. We shared the nachos in the beginning and they don't look impressive with melted shredd cheese on top but the chicken has a great seasoning and it was great. Weve been to Italy before and had pasta, but this fettuccine alfredo with salmon easily rivaled any we had in Italy or France. 10/10 would recommend!!

Excellent location in the heart of Nashville. Many parking options in the busy area (some are not free). We tried their burger, chicken sandwich, steak sandwich and the ribeye steak. They were all good, but nothing spectacular - perfectly appripriate. The portions and prices are fair ($15 - $32 + drinks for our food choices above). The atmosphere is, again, appropriate - no surprises. What I appreciate the most about this place is that they were one of just a few places that were open on a Monday.

Great food and friendly staff. I got the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo, my boyfriend ordered Ribeye dinner with the best onion rings we have ever gotten anywhere, I am lucky he shared with me, we will go back!! Parking in the back for customers was a plus. My son in law told us about the restaurant glad we went. We will be back next trip! Thanks for the great experience!
