Nestled in the vibrant downtown of Chico, California, the National Yo-Yo Museum is a delightful tribute to the beloved toy that has captivated generations. This unique museum, located within the charming Bird in Hand shop, features an impressive array of yo-yos spanning various shapes and sizes, including the remarkable Big-Yo—a 256-pound wooden marvel that holds the title for being the world's largest working yo-yo.
Located inside Bird-In-Hand, this little area is a fun spot to check out. It is very small, but it showcases one of the largest functioning yoyos (if not the largest) to be used via crane. There's a bit of history there as well, but the location shines because I love the store it resides in. Bird-In-Hand has so many fun gifts for kids through adults. Games, puzzles, brain teasers, toys, etc. It really brings out my inner child and creativity. I come here for their 3D puzzle kits and other random, small gifts.

If you're lucky (ask nicely), they'll help you set up your kid's yo-yo string. The classes on Saturday are free and are such a great part of living in Chico. I love this place.
Madison — Google review
They had a lot of yoyo selections and was very knowledgeable ended up spending more than I wanted to because they have great stuff there we will be back
Kim G — Google review
We saw this museum on the attractions to see in my Google app, and it did not disappoint. We met Bob, he was very helpful and knowledgeable about Yo-yos, come to find out, he was the owner of the store and museum. We also found out he is the founder of the National Yo-Yo Competition and holds training classes on Yo-Yo tricks for beginners. This is a great way to spend some time learning about a favorite pastime, and an added bonus is seeing the world's Biggest Working Wooden Yo-Yo.
Todd A — Google review
Visited September 26th to the museum. Its located in Chico California. Its in the back of the shop called "Bird in Hand" toy shop. The yo you museum is impressive with some really special memorabilia! Love the largest yo yo on display! What I didn't like is the store is taking up their memorabilia and making it crowded for the their own storage. I love all the yo yos! Be a kid again!
Mary P — Google review
Definitely check this place out if you like Yo-Yos! If Bob is there he will educate you on the Yo-Yo.
Dave W — Google review
An amazing collection that will take you down memory lane! The yo-yo museum is a great place to learn about the history of the yo-yo. Every Saturday the staff holds a yo-yo education class where they will teach you tricks. The museum also has A trophy case that honors some of the best mastery yo-yo competitors. It’s really fun to learn about the advancement of yo-yos overtime. The owner and his staff are very knowledgeable and more than willing to have long conversations about yo-yos with you. The museum is also conveniently located in a pretty amazing toy store. I highly recommend stopping in!
Bartellj — Google review
Tiny altar to the humble yoyo, embedded & almost seemingly forgotten in the back of a huge old-timey toy store, Bird in Hand, with an impressive collection showing off the evolution of the toy—including the gigantic 256-lbs wooden monster that was twirled off a construction crane! I especially appreciate the focus on the Filipino roots of the phenomenon & the name. Pinoy representation!

Farmers Markets
Chico Certified Farmers Market (CCFM) is a local market in Chico, offering a wide range of organic produce, handcrafted items, and products from local artisans and farmers. Operating year-round on Saturdays and Wednesdays, the market features freshly picked fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, honey, olive oil, meats, eggs, artisan breads as well as prepared foods. Additionally available are handmade crafts including jewelry and clothing.
This is by far the best Farmers Market.. you almost have to visit it in person to understand and feel the vibe it's such a nostalgic feeling and let alone the amazing variety of high-quality fruits and vegetables
B. K — Google review
Chico Certified Farmers Market is a vibrant community hub for fresh, local produce. Spanning a wide variety of seasonal goods, it consistently delivers on quality and variety. From plump, organic fruits to artisanal cheeses, the selection is impressive. Friendly vendors, often the growers themselves, offer a personal touch, sharing insights and recipe ideas. It's a delightful place to engage with the agricultural heartbeat of Chico. The market's atmosphere is lively, with live music and a buzzing crowd, making it an ideal weekend outing. Prices can lean towards premium, but the quality justifies it. Whether you're a foodie or simply seeking wholesome groceries, this market is a must-visit.
Sheldon P — Google review
Love the Saturday morning market. Fresh fruits and veggies from local frams. Local artisans and musicians. Also lots of various food ready to eat. Baked goods from Sweet Cottage are the best. Sweet Cottage line is always long. If you get Robin’s number you can order whole pies and quiches ahead of time. The pie pan has a five dollar deposit.
Michelle W — Google review
This Farmers Market is a pretty good size. Lots of Fresh fruits, vegetables, and even some gorgeous floral booths. I stumbled across a lady that did frozen prepared Sicilian food as well....if I didn't have an hours drive I would have bought some. It's worth the trip out.
Candice E — Google review
Love this small yet everything you need farmers market. Where else can you taste Sierra Nevada, get some delicious sea food then stumble over to some Indian food. Tons of plants and other household goods not just food. I highly suggest the olives from Adams ranch specifically the habanero stuffed one's make a tasty martini.
Danny H — Google review
Very adorable, interesting, and robust farmers market. Much larger and better layout that the one in Fresno that I’m used to. All the basics (and plenty to choose from) covered-cheese, honey, produce, fresh and cured meats, multiple coffee and tea vendors and much more! They had a few people performing acoustic music as well. Very charming! A must visit on a Chico weekend. Great location in Downtown too, lots to see and do nearby.

Sights & Landmarks
Bidwell Mansion | State Historic Park is a stunning estate located in an Italianate Victorian mansion that was previously owned by John and Annie Bidwell. The park encompasses both the beautiful mansion and its surrounding grounds which are perfect for wandering around. Although the house museum itself is closed most days, visitors can check the schedule before visiting to ensure it's open. This fun-filled park is adjacent to a school and touring the mansion with a guide provides immense interest due to its historical background.
Lots of great California history inside! Mr. Bidwell played a big part in building California and the city of Chico. The mansion is full of lots of fun artifacts, and is very well kept I highly suggest taking a tour.
Bartellj — Google review
It was a great tour. The tour guides were nice and answered all the questions anyone had. But you want to know why it's temporarily closed. Because some stupid peace of garbage burnt it to the ground. My grandma lives in Chico. I'm visiting her right now. When I drove past it, everything except the bricks was gone. ALL OF IT!!!!
TheHaltermanFamily4 — Google review
Beautiful plantation style mansion right next to California State University Chico! Three guided tours a day, $6.00 per person! Due to a other commitment that we did not have the opportunity to visit, but hopefully there will be other opportunities to visit again!
Steven C — Google review
I loved going to this mansion as a child. Though very saddened that it burned, it was very interesting to see it as it is now. More history lost.
Peter W — Google review
Much better than I expected. Also, make sure you make reservations in advance! They were booked up when we went, but Murphy was kind enough to squeeze us in anyway. Murphy was fantastic! So much knowledge, and personal experience growing up here and watching the renovations progress. I can't think of anywhere else that you can get that much for $6!
David M — Google review
Such a cool historic house! Tour guide was knowledgable and very friendly! My favorite part had to be the bedrooms on the 2nd floor. They all have tiny sinks! Beautiful & educational way to spend a saturday in Chico!
Ashley O — Google review
Beautiful mansion and park! I'm sure touring the house with a guide must be very interesting, it was closed at the time of our visit on a Sunday afternoon. We very much enjoyed wandering around the grounds.
Adeline C — Google review
Closed for construction, but has information plaques outside and tons of parking, lots of shade and trees to just enjoy the area. Wouldn’t mind going back to see the inside.

Upper Bidwell Park is a sprawling natural gem located in Chico, CA, offering diverse landscapes and recreational opportunities. Divided into lower, middle, and upper sections, the park features unusual rock formations like the Chico Formation sandstone that add to its beauty. The upper section stands out for its popularity and offers an adventurous experience with cliffs overlooking wildflowers and a creek winding through ancient volcanic rock. It's perfect for hiking enthusiasts seeking Instagram-worthy backdrops.
Diversion Dam – Upper Bidwell Park, Chico, CA Historic concrete dam set between basalt cliffs with rushing creek views. Popular for sunbathing and exploring, but currents are strong—swim with caution. Rugged path in, but worth it for the scenery and vibe.

A plus for the city of Chico- huge park with easy access from town. Plenty of parking and accessible, multi use trails.
E B — Google review
It's nice to hit the trails earlier in the day, especially when it's hotter outside. There are plenty of places to cool off in the creek, if you explore the lower trails. Bring your dog, if you have one.
Alex C — Google review
A truly amzing ecosystem, should be a national park. Etheral rock structures, caves, it is very amazing. The trails are well managed, there is many animals and birds, and it is all beatiful.
Sam W — Google review
Beautiful park, I love the scenery!
M S — Google review
Hiked the Yahi Trail. Beautiful fall colors and temperatures are perfect this time of year. Kid friendly adventuresome hike for 8 year old. The trail is mostly flat and runs along the creek. Lots of places to meditate or have a picnic. We went back on the road which was not too bad given we saw only five cars. Beautiful park great for hiking and summer swimming.
Jahjahfue ( — Google review
There are clear paths with different difficulties. Ample space to roam with your canine friend; they are supposed to be on leash though most aren't: beware. With California rain being up and out there is plenty of greenery and places to take pictures if hiking isn't really your thing. As mentioned before there has been a lot of rain recently so the river is currently strong- watch out for your puppers and children. As far as I saw, there wasn't anyone enforcing any of the rules. If it a popular place so the parking may be a little difficult.
Gabriella M — Google review
This is one of the best parks ever, dogs allowed, on left side of road theyre allowed off leash. See all of California's seasons vividly. 2nd largedt city park in USA. Update: still amazing as always. Right now has a super bloom from all the recent rain that wont last long!(april 2023)

Very family friendly and informative. Mark made such a memorable moment for our son. The stories and information he told us was very thorough. There is so much to see that your eyes will keep on moving and you'll learn random information that you might not have known. Thank you to all of those who gave us a tour, greeted us and gave us more information of the area.

This local air museum is a solid place to visit and a delight. The indoor spaces are the star with very well designed rooms devoted to the history of the Chico airfield, aviation art, aviation models, airmen gear and other features. The outdoor exhibits are nearby and and have labels for each aircraft in the exhibit. The indoor hanger, when I visited also had the doors open facing the airfield with chairs set up for watching the activities on the field including the CalFire airbase right next door and on my visit a firefighting helicopter contractor was staging right in front of the museum.

Upper Crust Bakery in Butte County is a well-loved establishment that offers an extensive selection of delicious baked goods. Whether you're looking for a morning treat or something sweet for dessert, Upper Crust has it all. From pastries and breakfast sandwiches to homemade breads and muffins, their menu is diverse and satisfying. Locals trust this bakery for all their needs, including wedding cakes and deli items like sandwiches and salads.
Wow! Everything we ate was amazingly delicious- the black bean chili with corn bread muffin, southwest quiche, deviled eggs, pecan roll, carrot cake, and a chai. It was all 5 star. We’ll be back every time we’re in town.
Sacha O — Google review
This is one of our favorite places in town. I took away one star since everything there is too sweet. The drinks are too sweet (vanilla frost), the apple caramel is too sweet (over powering), even the coconut macaron. Someone needs to dial things down a bit. The atmosphere is great. Customer service is great. The place is clean and quiet. We were a party of 4. Plenty of food options. Next time we will stick with sandwiches and juices / less sweet drinks. Deserts here need to be fixed.
Wisam A — Google review
Beautiful location with ample seating. The service was a bit slow due to the big rush, however the staff were very kind. I unfortunately did not enjoy their veggie sandwich and potato soup. I will try something different next time. Their sweets are delicious but they can be a bit too sweet at times. I enjoy their sugar cookies, especially when they’re seasonal!
Komal A — Google review
We order a couple of the breakfast quesadillas & an egg breakfast sandwich on ciabatta. The food was excellent the drinks were lukewarm at best. Even though we had a number and were told someone would bring us our food, they didn't bring our drinks and they sat on the counter for over 5 minutes until a customer came out and asked if anyone in the patio was named Bill because they have been calling my name. There were a lot of dirty tables and the only people bussing was the new customers who wanted a dirty table. We'll be back and I'll update the review if this was a quirky visit that is not typical.

We got our wedding cake from upper crust and it was delicious! We got a 3 tier cake and sheet cakes to serve guests. We did 3 flavors - we couldn’t pick a favorite! I look forward to our 1 year anniversary where I will re order a mini version of our cake so we can taste all the deliciousness again! Thank you upper crust!!

Great way to start the morning. So many choices, sweet, savory, healthy, not so healthy. Great place to sit and gather your thoughts or just relax. The food is prepared thoughtfully and you really can't go wrong.

One lemon bar isn’t enough in my household… we needed FIVE the next time we visited! Featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and for a great reason. Everything they had to offer here looked simply delicious, I only wish I could try it all! Full size cakes to single serving sweets, there’s so much to choose from I need to come back each day for a month in order to taste it all. Looking forward to my next visit for some yummy treats!

Brewery
Sierra Nevada Taproom & Restaurant, located in Downtown Chico, has been serving fine dining with a Western twist since the 1970s. The historic dining room is known for its delicious entrees like taquitos, queso, and beef enchiladas. One of their popular dishes is the Saltillo Dinner, which includes two enchiladas (beef and cheese), Spanish rice, and refried beans.
A well situated, iconic brewery that is very much an important landmark, tourist stop, and employer for Chico, CA. Food was very good. Service was excellent, Everything exceeded expectations. The beer selection was surprising large. I can highly recommend the malty "Reign Czech" beer which is seasonal. I also appreciated employees relating that they love their jobs and they are treated very well by the employer. Pride and care is noted in the facility, with a large upstairs for events, plenty of parking, gift shop and available brewery tours.

Visited here with friends. Wasn't disappointed in anything! Glad I didn't order a meal cause the appetizers were huge! Everything was delicious! Happy that hubby shared a bite of his salmon it was incredible!
Michelle J — Google review
I haven't been here since before the remodel, but the new setup looks great. It's got a very open design. The service was top-notch and the food was amazing. I got the Spicy Pep Pep pizza and it was a masterpiece. I'll definitely be ordering again. And of course they have a thousand beers to choose from. It's a good place to meet with friends, but be warned that it gets quite loud, so y'all may need to shout a little in order to hear each other.
Alex C — Google review
One of the greatest breweries of all time. They are in my top 10 for sure. I love every beer they put out, especially the seasonal craft beers they come up with. My go to’s are hazy ipas, big little, double torpedo and narwhal stout!! Great origin story and example that the American dream is alive. The taproom: I saw blue Egyptian and black pine revival there recently and was shocked at how good the food was. My stepson his dad and I all went together there for the first time and the sound was amazing we all danced for hours like a bunch of hippies dripping in beer sweat. The bar had no line and was affordable. The atmosphere was divine, the craftsmanship of seats , stage and overall design of the place was remarkably inspiring and clean.

Went for a show in the Big room. It's a great little venue. Beer , wine and food available before and during the show. Restaurant was amazing. The dark wood and copper decor is great.

I and my wife and three kids are here tonight, and we absolutely loved our food! We had the salmon, jalapeño pepper burger, the pretzel with beer cheese, the sausage appetizer, and the kids grilled cheese with tomato soup. It’s been ages since we’ve had such amazing flavors at a restaurant, even before COVID. The menu and the kitchen are incredible! We can’t believe how much we enjoyed the food! Our server Courtney was wonderful and seriously knows what good service is about. 10 out of 10!

The Handle Bar is an adorable establishment with delicious cuisine. The portobella muffaletta sandwich is particularly appetizing, and the fries are perfectly crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. Additionally, they offer non-alcoholic beer and provide a cozy patio area for guests to enjoy. The ambiance is charming, featuring delightful lighting and heaters for comfort. The staff members are friendly and attentive, making for a pleasant dining experience. Without a doubt, this pub will be visited again in the future!
Love the Handle Bar! Great food, great service. It’s around the corner from my house so we pop in occasionally. This review is based on many visits. Lots of constantly changing beers on tap with ciders and other options like wine. Food faves are sausage crostini, spätzle, and the Reuben sandwich! Large portions are good for sharing if you’re a light eater like me.

Great place to catch a late night meal. Dishes are well above basic pub fair and service is fantastic. Indoor and outdoor seating. One indoor zone is more sports bar like with screens while there are quieter corners of the place as well.

I love this place. Great food, great beer selection, and staff is amazing. They dont advertise as a German place or Bierhaus, but there's definitely a German influence. Currywurst isn't bad, potato salad is amazing, great burgers, sausage plates, and sandwiches. This is always one of my go-to spots in Chico.

This is one of my parent’s favorite spots in town and I’m so happy they took me here. Their outdoor patio is dog friendly and their food and service was wonderful! Full beer selections, everything on the menu sounded absolutely delicious, and they are even right next to one of the higher quality bike shops in the area! Will definitely be back next time I’m in Chico, CA!

Decent atmosphere. Good beer selection. Food is definitely an afterthought. " beer cheese and pretzel bites" are nothing more than tiny dinner roll dough. Definitely not anywhere near a true pretzel. Burgers are ok but not worth going back for one.

Nestled in the heart of downtown Chico, Momona is a delightful eatery that specializes in Japanese ramen and steamed bao, all while embracing local flavors. This laid-back spot offers a unique fusion of West Coast-style noodles with influences from Japan, Hawaii, and Taiwan.
Really relaxed atmosphere, good food and quick service. The Chico noodles were tasty and filling and the furikake fries were to die for! Couldn't get enough! Will definitely be visiting much more as the weather gets cooler!
Alex W — Google review
We really enjoy stopping by Momona for a quick lunch or dinner. While their ramen is tasty, our favorites are always the bao. The mochiko chicken and the pork belly are our go-to. This time around, we got noodle bowls. I don't recall the name anymore, but they were very good. As you can see in the photo, the drinks are very cutesy, I don't recall what we got, but they were so good. They always have great cocktail options here. Keep an eye on parking. Sometimes you have to pay, I believe the weekends are free, but I would double-check.

Some of the best food I've ever eaten in my life, genuinely. Amazingly seasoned and crisp fries. I wish I could eat a whole platter of the tofu katsu bao. The garlic butter noodles were so good??? Momona‘s new location is beautiful and perfect for dining downtown. The venue is spacious with nice views of outside. The food is always good. This review is about the oxtail soup. I’ve never had it before and It looked fantastic. The taste was different. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but it was really good but not excellent. I probably wouldn’t order this dish again but it’s great to try once. Broth was rich. The dinner didn’t fill me up like I expected. All in all, I give the place a 5 star review, but the food was a 4.5. My brother ordered the same dish and agreed it was good but not great. I’ll make sure to try something else next time.
Snap D — Google review
Pork belly bao is great. Potstickers aren’t traditional because they aren’t deep fried in Japan. Only pan fried or seldomly steamed. I’ll allow it since I assume it’s Americanized, ramen is appropriate portion and broth flavour depth was good. Toppings may not be fully traditional though but I consider this restaurant to be Japanese with a slight fusion influence. Overall, satisfactory by US standards of Japanese ramen. Most likely the best Ramen spot in town tho.

Came here for a nice night out. Recommend calling for reservations this place was packed on a Saturday night. That being said the service was amazing and the food still came out fast and pretty delicious. Tried multiple rolls. All had great flavors. Would go back.

This is the type of place where the food justifies a return visit. Order: Shaka Tuna and Baby Greens for the appetizer. Scallop crunch, Salmon Fiesta and the Red Dragon for sushi. Shaka Tuna had these very fine diced picked onions that really added this amazing flavor. It was so tempting to drink the marinade at the bottom! Also the Baby Greens has this amazing sesame based dressing. I thought it was a steal for the price. I think I was so wowed by the apps that no matter what I was going to think the sushi was good, which it was. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was super nice. Lots of staff came and went to pick up their drinks and it seems like the people there are quality and are enjoying themselves.

Visited September 26th...always see my receipt as proof! This place had great reviews in Chico and they were right! Beautiful and sleek inside and out! I love suishi and I ordered the Red dragon because it was spicy! YUM! My boyfriend had the California roll which he enjoyed. BEST was the baby back ribs! YES...their ribs melted right off the bone in a slightly sticky and awesome concoction! Beautiful presentation on all dishes! We also had a glass of wine and a local IPA. They have an extended area that also serves hard alcohol along with beer..wine..sake and specialty drinks. We got there when they opened at 1130am and it was nice and cool inside! They also have outdoor seating that is shaded! It was a Great experience! Thank you Regan and the two awesome suishi chefs...Charlie ( cute petite gal) and Syrjah (i didn't spell his name right..awesome man bun.). Professional and friendly and show pride in what they do! Love the location because it's walking distance to shops! I will be back! 5 star service...classy yet unpretentious and relaxing!
Mary P — Google review
The portions are really small so just order a bunch of stuff and don’t worry about it you can’t fill yourself up here no matter how much you order. The prices aren’t horrible but you’re paying more for the presentation than the taste of the food. The food tastes quite boring there’s very little complexity but the plating is quite cute. It’s incredibly loud even on the deck and people drive by in their cars and do burnouts leaving tire and exhaust smoke. I know that raw bar has no control over this but the location choice was bad. The service was attentive. If you want to impress a Chico local with no taste I’m sure they would be happy to be here so they can post on their Facebook account.

A hidden gem in the center of town. Outdoor and indoor seating. A wonderful selection of bevages to include cold or hot sake (filtered & unfiltered). The sushi rolls are generous in size and all are Very Delicious, with a perfect pairing of sauces! A perfect setting for solo, couples, or groups. Did I mention that the sushi rolls are special enough to highlight again? Yummy! 😋😋

Always a wonderful time. Food, atmosphere, design, and staff all kick ass. Me and my dog love coming here!

I just have to say I ate here a while back and a piece of sushi I bit into had mold on the seaweed on it. I could taste the flavor of mold so bad but was on a first date and had no where to spit it out so I just had to try to swallow it down without gagging. I couldn't get that distinct taste of mold out of my mouth after that and was totally disgusted. I was told this was a nice place. I'm thinking they hydrate their seaweed and don't throw away the unused pieces at the end of the night. It's been a while so hopefully they've improved.
