Nature & Parks
Silver Sands State Park, located on Long Island Sound in Milford, Connecticut, is a sprawling natural paradise spanning nearly 300 acres. The park features diverse terrain including sand dunes, forests, and a saltwater marsh. Visitors can enjoy activities such as fishing and swimming at the beach or take leisurely strolls along the boardwalk to soak in breathtaking views of the sound. With its year-round accessibility and picturesque landscapes, Silver Sands State Park offers an ideal setting for outdoor exploration and relaxation.
This is a hidden gem (sorta speaking). It is a state park but I knew nothing about it. Well let’s just say it’s perfect. Besides the sand being a bit rocky. There was plenty of room here and we did not feel crowded like other state beaches we have been at in the past. The water was great, and the life guard presence was an added benefit. They have a great little outdoor restaurant there for many different food options. There was abundant parking and the upkeep of the grounds was great. The park employee at the entrance telling everyone about weed and excessive loud music being prohibited was great. I will say it’s nice to go to a beach and not have the overwhelming smell of weed constantly around.

It's great....even better for residents. Free except for people with out of state plates. :/ still, well kept, plenty of parking, even if it's on the side grassy area. Picnic areas before the actual beach. Loved it. I'll head back soon. Oh! And the water is warm. :)
Celi K — Google review
Beautiful place for pictures as there various groups taking professional shots. The tides come in and out 2x per day which opens up a path to the nearby Charles Island. Low tide in the evening allows you to walk out and take these amazing shots of the sunset. Free parking access for CT residents, out of state plates have to pay for the parking. There is a little bit of a walk along the boardwalk to get to the beaches. Park closes at sunset.

Silver Sands State Park is a real hidden gem right on the Connecticut coastline. The park offers a beautiful 1.5-mile boardwalk with stunning views of the Long Island Sound and the picturesque Charles Island. It's a fantastic spot for a relaxing stroll, and you can even walk out to the island during low tide—just make sure to watch the tide times! The beach is clean, the area is well maintained, and there's plenty of space for picnics or just lounging with family and friends. If you're a nature lover or just need a peaceful day by the water, Silver Sands is definitely worth a visit.

Visited Silver Sands State Park during a family trip to Milford, CT in early to mid-November, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. The weather was perfect — around 60°F — pleasantly cool but not too cold. We took the Silver Sands State Park trail, which is mostly boardwalk-based and very easy to walk. After just a short stroll, you reach the beach — wide, clean, and peaceful. There’s also a rock-based walkway or jetty that extends out into the water. It’s a great spot if you enjoy taking photos or just want to take in the view. One thing that really stood out was the shoreline — it’s full of seashells of all shapes and sizes. That seemed to be the park’s unique charm. We even noticed a few ladybugs around (so if you’re not a fan of bugs, just be aware). Parking was plentiful and hassle-free. Since we visited outside of the park’s fee window, we didn’t have to pay for entry — an added bonus! We also saw a few people fishing, so it might be a nice quiet spot for anglers. There’s a porta toilet available; it was clean, though it did look like it could use a tank emptying soon. Overall, the park felt calm, clean, and scenic. If you have some free time in Milford or just want a relaxed outing with family, Silver Sands State Park is definitely worth a visit.

I can’t say enough good things about silver sands Park. A beautiful boardwalk that runs down the shore to several smaller beaches and through the marsh. A beautiful pier to enjoy and many fishing spots. At low tide a sandbar so you can walk over to Charles Island. Very clean beach areas with loads of shells for collectors and crafters A covered pavilion with tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your lunch, a snack bar-coffee hut. Clean restrooms, lifeguards on duty and very alert, a first aid building, bike racks, volleyball nets, charging stations for electric vehicles. Very picturesque area and at low tide is a dreamland for the young kids to play and enjoy, and if you want more privacy away from children there are several smaller beaches down the boardwalk you can choose. Plenty of room on the main beach with an incredible view of the ocean and on the day I was there many colorful sailboats sailing in the distance. On my second day back I discovered a bbq area with picnic tables. This area is away from the beach areas near the parking lot.

Silver Sands never disappoints. Real peaceful vibe — perfect place to clear your head, walk the boardwalk, or just kick it by the water. Beach stays clean, sunsets hit different, and there’s always a good breeze coming off the ocean. Also dog friendly but not much garbage cans.
Ty L — Google review
Lovely beach with a sandbar where you can walk out to an island. Watch the tide charts, since you can only get out and back during low tide! I couldn’t do it this morning.

Eisenhower Park, the largest park in Milford, spans 44 acres and offers a diverse range of activities for visitors. The park features an extensive network of trails suitable for hiking and horseback riding, as well as amenities such as tennis courts, soccer fields, and a dog park. Nature enthusiasts can appreciate the rich wildlife and scenic landscapes within the park. Families with children can enjoy the accessible playground and splash pad while taking advantage of organized activities like story time on the walking trail.
Nice playground with tennis courts and sprinkler. Has an area for 5 and under but to me is really age 2/3 and under. I have a big 2yr old and he prefers the big kid side. Big kid side is ages 5-12. For swings they have swinging benches, a tire swing, regular swing, 3 baby swings and something that I think is a special needs swing? Not sure but it perfect for kids too big for the baby swing but not ready for a regular swing.

We went first time there but we loved the place. You can enjoy with family and friends where kids can play and you can hangout too.

looks a busy place but sadly its changed from the years I went to run for cross country. they got trails in the way back confusing to follow but the upper parking is only for residents and private so do not park their. also got a play ground and pickle ball courts . tone of parking yes great to walk your dog

Great place . They have a beautiful walking trail . With story time on it. Love the hiking area. To bad the lake ain’t there anymore. I use to go swimming here. Saw as lot deer, some people horse back riding. There a splash pad for the kids, playground, tennis courts, baseball field, and a soccer field . There a spot in the back for model airplanes to fly. But you need a permit to fly there. You get your permit from Milford city hall.

Went here with the CT Foraging Club. The area was very peaceful and pretty. Perfect atmosphere for a crisp autumn hike. The pathway isn’t difficult to walk either, most people will be able to use it

Absolutely amazing park. Friendly people. Two playscapes one for small children one for older children, also out of this world splash pad area with plenty of room. Free to everyone even if you're from out of town. Just pay attention to parking areas one parking lot to left is for residents.
Voula S — Google review
We went looking for mushrooms and didn't really find any. But we wound up hiking along a brook that meandered through groves of older trees. It was quite beautiful. The park also has ample space for sports playing fields and even showed signs of horseback riding. It made me long for a time when I used to bring my dog to parks around the country. Many people were walking their dogs, on leashes, and it looked like they were having fun.

Seafood restaurant
Nestled in the heart of downtown on Daniel Street, Stonebridge Restaurant is a delightful destination for those craving New England seafood and classic American dishes. With its inviting ambiance, guests can choose from various dining experiences—whether it's the elegant main dining room featuring a cozy fireplace or the relaxed mahogany bar area. The menu boasts an array of options, from sophisticated starters like tuna tartare to beloved pub classics such as fish and chips.
My first time here and it was a great experience! The restaurant is well-managed and their menu has a nice variety of options. Excellent service but we were not offered any dessert menus. This is a common fail in so many restaurants today and also lost opportunity for revenue.

We made a reservation for Valentine’s Day. Waited almost over half an hour and no one came to serve us. I had to stop a random server while she was walking by to ask her who our server was. She went to check and said she had no idea but she was kind enough to step in and serve us. Ordered a sangria and it tasted like just a glass of red wine with ice in it. Had to ask them to add in something to sweeten it up to actually make it a sangria. The food was decent. I would say the presentation itself is a bit lackluster but the food was decent. The parking situation is so hectic too but I appreciated the parking attendant helping us out. We were excited to try this spot for the first time but was unfortunately disappointed and don’t think we will be back again.

We drove 2.5 hours here for our anniversary dinner and were not disappointed! From the moment we walked in the door, the host/owner greeted us and wished us a Happy Anniversary. Jamie and Jacob our bartenders poured us a champagne toast as soon as we sat down. Delicious drinks and incredible food! Will return for sure!!
Henry B — Google review
Food was really good and hugeee portions! Seafood heavy menu and everything was filling and included a lot of seafood. Restaurant is really cute as well. Service is a little slow and because the area isn’t super diverse, they can definitely tell when you’re a tourist. The guy that monitors the parking lot is very friendly but in an aggressive way. They definitely treat tourist better than locals unless you’re a regular. I would go back if I’m ever in town.

Amazing Blackened Scallop Downtown Salad. Ok, immediately and pleasantly overwhelmed with the flavor of this modified Waldorf Salad. The scallops were succulent, juicy morsels delicately spiced and sautéed, careful not to overwhelm. When paired with the walnuts, cranberries, apples and goat cheese, great flavor profile united in a subtly sweet vinaigrette. Blissful, perfect. The atmosphere here is always welcoming, today was no exception! Two huge private parties but never took away from the personalized service and never a handshake away from instant attention. The owner is also very personable and when not helping the staff he is satisfying guests with a naturally friendly disposition. I’ve heard the brunch here is legendary. Can’t wait to come and try it.

We were 1st time in Milford and picked this restaurant because of the good reviews and the appealing menue. We left however disappointed. My husband got the Crispy Fish Sandwich and I the Aloah Bowl. We ordered the appetizer from the daily menu list, Full Belly Clams. It didn't have a description of the dish. They were fried with thick crunchy crust, one could hardly find the claws. When I peeled the batter off, the ( little) meat was very gummy and chewy. My bowl was eh. The coconut rice didn't have any particular taste, and the other ingredients neither. The argula leaves didn't look fresh and the mayo sauce tasted like a convenience product. My husband's Sandwich came with 2 slices of cod, fried with the same batter and it sat very heavy in his stomach. The green coleslaw was put on one slice of the bun, small amount. We found it was very overpriced for what we got. My fork was not clean and I asked for a new one. I got a fresh napkin with silverware in there and that fork had again something very visible on it. The person who rolls the napkins should make sure to only put clean pieces in there. The staff was friendly and relaxed.

In addition to classic breakfast fare, the restaurant also offers unique options such as blackened eggs, Cuban tacos, and Malaysian pulled pork. I had the Malaysian spiced pulled pork topped with over medium egg, crispy fried onions and shredded ginger and a crisp rice wafer bowl with a stone hearth bread and home fries. My friend had the South Indian Spiced Pulled Duck Wrapped in Bacon layered tortilla with scrambled eggs and a mild cheese.. for the table I ordered Apple, Cinnamon, Raisin and Cream Cheese Stuffed French Toast. I’m beyond full. The food was so delicious.

I found a great little spot in the downtown Milford, CT area. I was able to find street parking right in front of the restaurant. Although they were fairly busy, I was seated right away. The breakfast menu features some creative items, and the interior has a classic decor. There is also outdoor seating available. The drip coffee they serve had excellent flavor, but they do not offer espresso drinks. Overall, the food was delicious, and I would definitely come back when I'm in town.

The Corner is hands down one of the best breakfast/brunch spots in CT! 5 stars all around. Expect a wait for this cozy comfy honestly home style spot! Personal favorites are the peaches and cream stuffed French toast, and the Malaysian pork dish 🤤

What a fantastic breakfast! We’re here in New Haven on a college tour and on a whim decided to pop into The Corner Restaurant. The decor is rather eclectic and is filled with antique knickknacks. Service was fast and super efficient and kind. Great menu knowledge by the staff. I had the duck and my son had the empanada. Both are extraordinarily delicious. I can say without hesitation that this is the most you eat breakfast menu I’ve had in forever. I would strongly urge you to come and taste the magic!

Picked up Sunday breakfast and headed to the beach. We got takeout and the food was so good. I’ve never been here before and can’t imagine how good the food is if we were to dine in because the takeout food was so good. The portions are large and they don’t cut you short on anything. I made my own omelette and it was full of bacon. Each bite had several pieces of bacon in it. The pulled pork sandwich is also another must try. You won’t be disappointed, trying this place out for breakfast by any means and most likely will have leftovers which is always a plus

Never had a bad experience here. It's a cozy atmosphere with great tapas. Never disappoints so much so we hosted a luncheon for over 30 people. Paulina, Porsha and the entire team made sure all my guests were taken care of and our day was a memorable one.

Rudeness at it's best. After decent recommendations we finally made it to Milford to eat at this restaurant; big hopes and thrilled to eat at a fellow countrymen's place. Waited to be seated for over 15 minutes at a almost empty place. Man behind the counter was almost impossible to catch his eyes- it was almost like he was avoiding us on purpose. We asked if we could get a table but told us he had drinks to take care of it; we understood and waited for those drinks to be made and delivered. Man comes back and announces he has more drinks to make, by then he might have time to take care of us. Needless to say, we left and walked over to Founder's House were we were greeted and sited as soon as we set foot inside the restaurant.
Luis S — Google review
Honestly, much preferred when Bistro Basque and El Barrio were separate restaurants. The individual menus were more robust and each had a unique vibe. Now I feel like this place doesn’t know what it wants to be. I get why the owner combined the 2 for Covid but to keep it that way long after Covid is just odd. To save money on front of house? I think it is hurting their business. You walk in and it’s unclear where you’ll sit etc. One entrance usually blocked. Don’t get me wrong, food is still solid. But again I miss the full menus and the vibe of each place. Hopefully the owner brings that back. I know they’re busy with construction in building now.

I have visited this restaurant twice and will keep returning! I first visited this beautiful place on a first date and it definitely did not disappoint. We were seated outside in the back facing a brick wall with green vines that made you feel like you were on a tv show. The waiter was very attentive and engaging. The food was great both times. It is definitely not your average restaurant as the menu options are exquisite. Came back again and it was just as delicious as I remembered!

Been coming here for 10 years and it’s still as exceptional as always. This restaurant is prefect, and the only thing that could make it more perfect is even better prices for us! Seriously we always LOVE it because it’s always so excellent as far as execution, flavors, service, atmosphere.

Ate here on a Saturday night, it was amazing! Food/wine/dessert were all fantastic, ate outside in this narrow vine covered passage that made us feel like we had gone through a portal to Spain or France. Definitely going on our list of favorites!
Danielle M — Google review
I wandered into this restaurant on a Saturday afternoon because of it's interesting front entrance and signage. I didn't know what to expect but I was treated not like a customer but like family. "I guess I'll stay" I thought to myself. An attractive waitress from India (this is Not an Indian restaurant) asked how many and escorted me to a secluded patio in the rear of the restaurant. Brick walls with ivy climbing up in a beautiful, clean well manicured setting. The waitress with big bedroom eyes and a beautiful complexion was so attentive I wanted to propose to her. Anyway, I snapped out of it and was handed a menu. Not less than 5 minutes I was handed a plate of freshly baked warm french bread which could've been a meal onto itself. So delicious I think I had 3 plates of it. The menu consist of mainly tapas which allows me to eat more than most! Lol. I chose the snails and the lamb tacos. I love escargot. I usually expect a plate of escargot with only 6 snails in their shell. This was different. This dish was an abundance of 24 snails completely shelled swimming in a delicious garlic, butter etc broth that really "blew my skirt up" fantastic. Delectable, not too pricey. I was very content with what was placed in front of me. Second course was lamb tacos cooked to perfection.Tender, juicy with a very unique flavor. Loved'em! Bistro Basque I couldn't think of a better place to take someone for an exceptional romantic dinner. One feels like your in another part of the world. Impeccable service. Undivided attention was given to me not just by my precious waitress but other staff members. Don't miss out on this dining experience at Bistro Basque. An enchanting restaurant owned by Frenchman with a Latin/French flair. It doesn't get any better than that!!!! My server made my experience not only relaxing, enjoyable and pleasurable one but a very memorable one. How can I not possibly go back. Bistro Basque is a keeper!!!!

I went this past weekend after wanting to go for so long(The first time I went I got free wings on my birthday) However, this past weekend a bartender did something I didn’t like. This bar has dart boards and the first time I asked for darts, the first bartender I had only asked for my ID. My friends and I played for a couple of minutes and returned the darts since we ran outside to the car for a little bit. When we came back in, it was a new bartender and when I asked for the darts again, she tried to ask for my ID with a $3 charge. I told her I had the darts like 20 minutes ago and I wasn’t charged. As soon as I said that, she immediately changed her mind and just took my ID. I just felt that right there was a little inconsistence and I felt like they were trying to rob me…I also felt a little racism at this bar too but not from the workers but would say people who were visiting and dining as well but that’s another story. Overall, it is a good place to chill, grab food and a drink or two if needed…would I go back?? Maybe if it’s my last resort on picking a place to go out to for the night. Hoping for a better experience like my first time if I was to ever return

We had lunch there Sunday April 6th 2025 We sat for over 20 minuites in back area Not one person came back and came in thru the front door And there was another table there They never went to that table either. They had to move to the front I went to bar to ask why no server came back to assist us the bartender was kind ( blonde woman ) Then a server took over the conversation she said ( brunette server with glasses )we never go back there unless we know some one is there ( well how would you know if no one goes back there ) then said she was too busy But was socializing at the bar at the time Also only 6 tables had people there in the entire restaurant. .. She was Confrontational Aggressive Rude ( this person does not have the best interest in your company ) Then 7 minuites later came to our table We put our drink orders in Then a different server brought the drinks and too over she was fabulous. Attentive and charming We stayed for the game ( U conn) Had drinks, Appetizers and lunch you need to seriously look at the horrible server if we get her again We will REQUEST a different server every time If not for the rude service from tje brunette server with glasses you would have a perfect score making us uncomfortable Thank you for your time

The Bartender on Tuesday night definitely has racial issues. He made it his point to ignore me and talk with his buddies instead of serving mebut there is a time a place for everything. They do attend to their regulars though because there were one or two black and spanish folks there.. The dark haired server made up for the Bartender's issues with really good service so I can't really give the place a bad review. People are who they are so we just enjoyed our date night. This was our second time there first time was great, this time was ok. For a Tuesday night date night with the Misses I can say I enjoyed our time with her.

The waitress with blonde hair older one was rude, and she told us she was in charge. We have gone there 3 times. Each time there were charges on our bill that did not belong on it. 1st time charged for 2 extra beers my husband only had 1 and the waitress said she brought them out to me. I said no I don't drink alcohol of any kind. I told her I had a coke see it's there on the bill. 2nd & 3rd time a few up charges we were not told about. So, ask questions the owner said we should assume up charges. I said NO your staff should inform us. It's pretty bad when a business will start arguing with customers. To the one reading this don't you want to know what they are going to charge. It took a long time to get the food out. The staff stands around talking with each other a lot and they have customers waiting for drinks. They will pass over certain customers and make them wait longer for some reason. Done with this place not worth it.

Located in Milford, CT, Scratch Baking is a charming bakery and sandwich spot known for its homemade pastries, bread, and sandwiches. The bakery offers a variety of delicious treats to satisfy any craving. Customers rave about the delightful meals enjoyed at outdoor tables on sunny days. Although popular items like the Monkey Bread tend to sell out quickly, pre-ordering online for timed pick-up is recommended. Cute bakery in the heart of Milford with a wide range of sweet and savory baked goods. Unsually good bread. They serve coffee too but there's only a small strip of a bar in front and no seats so it's really more of a takeout place. Service was super helpful, friendly, and efficient.

Service was effective. They have online order available too! But it was my first time here so I wanted to see the bakery products! The egg and cheese sandwich of the day was delicious!!! Bread is definitely freshly baked!! Rye with seeds, chewy and yummy! Cranberry lemon muffin was so good!!! Not too sweet! Moist and tasty! Monkey bread was one of the best!!! Chocolate muffin was really good too! Love the cute logo and the exterior door! Ambiance inside feels a bit dark, menu on the wall wasn't easy to read. There are seatings outside but nothing inside.

First time visiting Scratch Baking, and I knew it was going to be good just by seeing the line out front—but it moved quickly. I went with my wife, and we ordered a ham and cheese sandwich with bacon on a ciabatta roll, an oatmeal raisin cookie, sliced ciabatta bread, and their homemade lemonade. Everything was delicious. They offer a variety of desserts that look amazing, along with several coffee options. There’s limited seating—just two outdoor tables—but it’s still a nice spot to visit and return to. Parking is available in the lot at the back.

Scratch Baking in Milford, CT is the kind of place that makes you fall in love with food all over again. From the moment you step inside, the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries wraps around you like a warm hug, and you immediately know you’re in for something special. Every single item in the case looks (and tastes) like it was made with love, because it was. The croissants are impossibly flaky, the sourdough has that perfect tang and crust, and the pastries are always changing with the seasons, keeping things exciting and fresh. It’s the kind of quality that only comes from true dedication to the craft. And speaking of dedication, the owner is an absolute gem. Warm, passionate, and genuinely invested in the community, she brings not only incredible talent but heart and soul to the bakery. You can feel her presence in every detail, from the thoughtful menu to the welcoming atmosphere. She’s the kind of person who remembers your name, your favorite pastry, and makes you feel like part of the Scratch family. Whether you’re grabbing a morning coffee and a pastry or picking up bread for the week, you’ll walk out of Scratch not only with something delicious, but with a smile. Milford is incredibly lucky to have this place, it’s more than a bakery, it’s a local treasure.

Scratch is the kind of bakery that you wish you could discover for the first time again. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with warm aromas and even warmer staff. The bakers in the back are always busy at work and you can tell that they all genuinely enjoy what they do. Their passion and dedication is proven through their delicious food, regardless of what you order. My personal favorites are the bacon and vegetable quiche, the sourdough loafs, and the raspberry bars. But I am making my way through the entire menu and have liked everything I have tried so far! The owner is clearly passionate about her bakery, and I am excited to continue supporting scratch and watching this bakery continue to succeed!

Only good for baked goods and hot drip coffee, they know nothing about espresso. I am drinking milk…, she put a whole pint of milk in my drink then opened a second one to top of off with more milk.
