Fantastic service from the ladies at the front desk. Excellent artifacts in the museum. The little documentary they show at the beginning is very nice. There is an entry fee that they call a "donation" if it is a donation then they basically demand you donate to enter. The gift shop has some cool stuff in it too. It's a fun stop to see while passing through.

What a great little travel gem. They have a jam packed well set up gift shop with the most unique and lovely country themed gifts. The museum itself has so many props, frames and memorabilia. Even the restrooms were perfectly decorated and extremely clean. Admission is only $8, well worth the price for this experience. Im not sure of their seasonal operating hours. I've driven through many times and always wanted to explore but it always looked closed. This was the first time i saw a sign outside indicating it was open. Glad I stopped by

A definite must see. This museum has an amazing amount of movie & TV memorabilia. All sorts of genres are covered & the displays are top notch. They also have a movie theater on site. Check their website for the movie schedule. I can spend hours here & have multiple times.

I've driven by this museum quite often and always thinking that I need to stop sometime. We finally stopped and was quite impressed! It wasn't just some hokie small town attraction but was very professional, interesting and informative. Take an hour and stop fror a rest and enjoy the place.

Very cute, nostalgic collection of a greater pioneering generation in film industry. Awesome collection of memorablia from some the greatest westerns ever made.

It was awesome to time travel back to alot of the shows I saw as a youngster. Also learned about alit of movies that were shot here.

Great little museum covering a lot of early cowboy B movies and a few more recent films. 15 minute presentation played every 30 minutes. Then you can buy the guide for $2 and go find the original locations on Movie Road.

Nestled in a remote area, the Alabama Hills boast majestic peaks and rock formations that are perfect for hiking and camping. Located on Whitney Portal Rd/Movie Flat Rd, these hills feature warm colors and rounded contours that contrast with the jagged, snowy Sierras in the background. This iconic setting has been featured in numerous movies and TV shows, making it a popular spot for film enthusiasts. Visitors can also bring their dogs to explore this dog-friendly destination.
Alabama Hills – Lone Pine, California The Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, California, are nothing short of magical. Nestled between the Owens Valley and the eastern face of the Sierra Nevada, this rugged landscape is filled with striking rock formations, endless desert views, and the towering presence of Mount Whitney in the distance. We spent a day exploring the area and were blown away by the sheer beauty and cinematic atmosphere of it all. The land is dry and desert-covered, with sagebrush stretching toward sculpted granite arches and towering boulders that seem frozen in time. Thousands of purple wildflowers were in bloom when we visited, creating a beautiful contrast against the sun-baked stone and distant snow-capped peaks. Alabama Hills is also steeped in Hollywood history, having been used as a backdrop for Westerns and adventure films since the 1930s. Everything from cowboy classics to episodes of Star Trek have been filmed here, and it's easy to see why. The landscape feels otherworldly, like a place imagined rather than mapped, yet it remains deeply tied to the real stories of land, light, and legacy. One particularly memorable sight was Nightmare Rock, a painted face tucked along the road leading into the hills. Its bright red lips hide the suggestion of sharp teeth, a surreal and creative reminder of how this place inspires both artists and adventurers. Alabama Hills is a place where geology, history, and imagination meet. Whether you're a photographer, hiker, stargazer, or film buff, this place offers something unforgettable. We left feeling like we had stepped into another world, one etched by nature and shaped by dreams. Thomas Corrao Stray Compass Life

Iconic and for good reasons. The Hills are amazing and it's a shame what locals have done to shut down access to keep it for themselves. Public lands should stay public. Leave it better than you found it.

A hidden gem! It’s easily accessible. The rock formations were stunning. I will always take this short detour on my way to Mammoth from now on! We drove all the way to Alabama Hills residential area. I want one of those houses with giant rocks in their backyard! There were several sites with rock piles along the way.
Joy L — Google review
Wow, it was so nice! We passed by by coincidence, and it turned into such a pleasant and unexpected experience. The trail was beautiful, almost like a free national park. We really enjoyed it — especially the arch and the stunning trees and rock formations. I would definitely recommend everyone to visit it!

Picturesque place for sure - starts out green and lush, and quickly gets dusty and rocky. Excellent trails for walking the dog. Just be sure to bring loads of water for the fur friends.
Frank B — Google review
Alabama Hills is undeniably a beautiful place to camp. However, I’m giving it one star due to the unsettling experience I had — more specifically, the type of behavior some campers bring to the area. Around 12:30 AM, after I had already settled in for the night, two strangers pulled up to my campsite (between mile 0 and 0.5 miles). They began walking around my vehicle with a flashlight, which was extremely alarming. Without saying a word, they then decided to pitch their tent right next to my vehicle — clearly within the boundaries of my established site. It is completely unacceptable to invade someone else’s campsite, especially in the middle of the night. Waking up to strangers circling my vehicle gave me a near heart attack. I was too shaken to stay the night and had absolutely no desire to sleep next to people who showed such disregard for personal space and basic camping etiquette. Once they were a short distance away, I started my vehicle and left, ending up on a side street in town just to feel safe. I returned in the morning to see who they were and took the photos attached to this review at that time. While the landscape is stunning, the experience left me feeling unsafe — and that’s not something anyone should have to go through while trying to enjoy nature.
Barbara — Google review
If you’re in the area it’s worth checking out. I stopped here before hiking up Whitney. The hike is very easy with a couple arches to see.
KICKING C — Google review
Sharp, hilly roads snake through rocky outcroppings and hills. Simply one of the more beautiful drives in the country. Go when it’s not too snowy, as the roads are far more challenging in icy conditions.

Outdoor Activities
The Mobius Arch Loop Trailhead is a short desert trail that leads to the highly unusual rock formation, the Mobius Loop, within the Alabama Hills. This easy 0.6-mile loop offers stunning views of Utah-like landscapes and takes visitors around the iconic Mobius Arch. For those seeking more mileage, an out-and-back option on the adjacent Alabama Hills trail is available. The area boasts approximately 100 little arches, but the main attraction is undoubtedly the Mobius Arch.
This is a relatively short hike with some ups and downs. Overall I would say between easy and moderate (as long as your not out here in the heat of summer). There are a couple of small arches (nothing like the parks in Utah) along the way. Overall the entire area is an interesting location, I can see why many movies are filmed out here.
Curtis L — Google review
If you’re only going to take one walking trail in the Alabama Hills, make it the Mobius Arch Loop Trail. You can get to both the Mobius Arch and the Heart Arch from the parking lot, and you can actually see the Heart Arch quite well from that trailhead. The trail is a fairly hilly dirt trail with frequent variably sized rocks. It wasn’t too difficult and should be fine for most active older kids and adults.
Matt B — Google review
It’s a short trail and had nice arch’s. Please remember the park has no cell reception so down load the area map and link the locations you want to visit.
Danny O — Google review
A pretty easy walk, not super far. Definitely some steep spots and some loose sandy areas. Not suitable for a wheelchair, but you can see interesting features from the parking area. Possibly ok with a cane if you’re not dependent on it. If you have mobility issues, do not go alone.
Kerri M — Google review
Alabama Hills offers a picturesque landscape of large rocks and easy hiking trails, making it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. The drive through the area was relatively straightforward, and visiting on a weekday allowed for a peaceful experience. However, the heat during our visit made us recommend visiting later in the fall for a more comfortable trip. The area offers numerous camping spots, allowing visitors to wake up to the stunning natural beauty of the rocks and the backdrop of Mount Whitney. A highly recommended destination for those who appreciate natural landscapes.
Lynn C — Google review
Well worth the trip. Short dirt road in, plenty of parking, easy walk but not much shade!
Lloyd R — Google review
Easy to get to by car and easy walk to see the arch … very unique views and landscape
Julie S — Google review
Nice and easy dust loop trail to some unique rock formations and great signage to the arch! The trail is easy to spot, and again, the signs are great at helping orient you as you trek onwards. The contrast of the high desert leading up to the Sierras is stunning! Mt. Whitney shines against the sunrise in the morning, and it's awesome to sit back and take in the views.

Before embarking on your adventures in the Lone Pine area, make sure to visit the Eastern Sierra Visitor Center located on Highway 395. This is the go-to spot for obtaining permits for activities like hiking Mount Whitney and other trails based on seasonal regulations. Situated at the crossroads of Highway 395 and State Route 136, it provides essential information and resources regarding permit requirements.
This place is nice, clean, very nice views, and has a little gift shop inside. It also has a 3D map of the mountains. The staff was super friendly and we made a friend with a seemingly lost seagull and met some tourists from the Netherlands! Loved the experience ❤️

Perfect place to stop and take a rest on your trip to the area. Clean restrooms and plenty of parking. Helpful staff whom provided information and maps on our trip to Alabama Hills. Was also able to fill up our water jugs for our camping trip. There's a spigot behind a stone wall on pathway to visitor centor.

Informative and helpful staff! Be mindful that they may close midday for a lunch break, depending on staffing availability. Went on a Monday afternoon and they were open, revisited after my Whitney Summit on a Wednesday at noon (and they were closed). Still, a wonderful spot to swing by, plenty of updated info posted on the exterior of the building for anybody hiking in the vicinity!

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!! DO NOT ORDER A BURGER HERE! I usually don’t write such negative reviews, but I simply can’t stay silent about this experience. My husband ordered a medium burger — what we received was a plate with potatoes, two fried eggs, and a paper-thin patty. They also placed a slice of bread on the side. We honestly couldn’t believe this was supposed to be a burger, so we asked the waitress — and she confirmed that it was. Does anyone in this place even understand what a burger is supposed to look like? No one offered to replace the dish or explain anything, even though we made it clear that this was not what we expected when we ordered a burger. Also, when we first arrived, we were told they don’t serve customers outside and only offer service for indoor seating. We were really disappointed, especially because it was loud and dirty inside. Our table had crumbs all over it, and there was a piece of cheese or some other yellow food on the seat that I had to clean off myself before sitting down. But here’s the worst part — about 20 minutes into our meal, we saw people eating outside. Why were they allowed to sit outside, and we weren’t? This is absolutely unacceptable. This place deserves zero stars, but unfortunately, Google won’t let me give anything less than one. I will never come back.
Viktoria V — Google review
I don’t understand the good reviews. This place is still running because there isn’t anything else in the area but everything from customer service to food and general set up are pretty mediocre. The customer service defies logic. I waited for the woman at counter to become available to talk to me, which she did, only to tell me that - despite her being right in front of me and already logged into her machine and available to take payments - she couldn’t take my order and I could t pay her and I had to wait for someone else. So I moved out of line and let the person behind me pay because …. I still don’t understand why. Food was bland, sloppy and unseasoned (I had a veggie wrap). The bacon, eggs and potatoes - equally unseasoned. The whole experience was so disappointing.

Stopped by this café and found it packed. The staff seemed overwhelmed, and it took a while to get our takeout order placed. The waitress eventually helped us and was polite, but the overall vibe felt disorganized. There was a $1 upcharge per entrée for takeout and a 4% card processing fee, which felt a bit excessive with the already high prices ($19 for a club sandwich & fries). The food was okay, decent but nothing special. Everyone was nice enough, but the experience lacked smooth service and left us underwhelmed. Hopefully, it was just an unusually hectic day for them.

Very nice place! 😍 But it seems like it’s always packed, so you might have to wait a bit to get a spot. But trust me — it’s worth it! Haha! And let me just say… TRY THEIR PIES!!! 🥧 Absolutely amazing — yummy, tasty, delicious! No words to describe how good they are! We had breakfast there, and of course, we couldn’t leave without grabbing a pie to take home. We enjoyed it later with coffee and a beautiful view. Highly recommend! ☕🍰

In Lone Pine, The Grill is a popular dining spot offering a diverse menu with options like pasta, steak, and seafood. Visitors recommend checking the weather before visiting in winter as it can be significantly colder than nearby areas. The restaurant is known for its delicious breakfast options and friendly service. Additionally, it's a great place to grab lunch or dinner with attentive staff and tasty dishes such as burgers and strawberry rhubarb pie.
Large menu, great food! Came here to grab some food after climbing Mt. Whitney and I enjoyed every bite. My waitress was very polite and friendly, very attentive and always made sure my drink was full. Located right down town Lone Pine and plenty of parking. I highly recommend “The Grill”
Scott F — Google review
I visited The Grill in Lone Pine recently, and unfortunately, it was a truly disappointing experience. I ordered a ribeye steak, medium-rare. After what felt like an unusually long wait, I let the waitress know I had to quickly unplug my car at the supercharger across the street and park it. When I returned, the steak was finally served, but the meal was a disaster: the steak was well-done, and the sides were raw. The meat seemed like it hadn’t been defrosted properly, as it was half-boiled in some parts. Clearly, the kitchen lacks basic cooking skills. When I politely asked the waitress to cancel the steak, she took the plate and loudly smashed it into the trash, causing other customers to look startled. She even admitted she “wanted to smash the plate.” Feeling unsafe by this aggressive behavior, I decided to leave. When I mentioned the steak was overcooked, she blamed me for moving my car, saying that’s why the steak overcooked—but she never warned me it was ready. I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for decent food or service. If you’re just after some French fries, maybe you’ll be okay, but otherwise, this is one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had, and I’ve lived in Paris for 13 years. The service was incredibly aggressive, and the food was inedible. I hope management takes notice and reconsiders who’s running this place…

Great options for everyone in our group including vegans. One vegan had the vegan burger on lettuce wrap (because buns are not vegan) and the other had the quinoa salad. The food was good and service was very helpful. Highlight for everyone were the tasty fries! We would go back!

Very nice restaurant in a homie environment. The servant was very nice, service quick, food good. Thanks also to the person that advised to take the side shrimps! Totally worth it! We had two burgers with sides, a beer, the shrips and the cheesecake.
Jennifer K — Google review
I had the hamburger with bacon, BBQ sauce and cheddar. The meat is quite good and you can choose how it's cooked. The bun isn't very good and isn't toasted. The fries are very good but there aren't that many. Other than that, the people are nice but it's very noisy inside. There aren't many people so I recommend booking a table if possible

Wonderful experience…! Loved the warmth of the place, people and mostly the food…! Healthy ingredients and homely recipes…! Very charismatic owner called Saloua and a charming Jerry waits tables with Bobby..! Would love to come here if destiny brings us here again..!

I go up to Bishop often for vacation and pass through lone pine all the time. This weekend is the first time I will have stayed in lone pine for a couple of nights. The grill is the first stop we made here to grab a quick bite. And MAN did they deliver. Jerry was fantastic. Immediately upon Walking and despite helping other customers she greeted us and made us feel welcome. We sat where we'd like and were given beverages and our menus. Everything was speedy and freshly made. I just ordered a Cheeseburger with onion rings and they tasted fantastic. Everything was freshly made and came out quick. We also ended up getting cheesecake because it looked fantastic and it of course was delicious. From now on whenever i come up for vacation i will make sure to stop by here for delicious food. 10/10

Seasons Restaurant is a refined American eatery that offers a rustic yet sophisticated dining experience. The menu features a variety of dishes including seafood, pasta, charbroiled steaks, and an array of wine and spirits. From authentic Scampi Florentine to unique offerings like medallions of Cervena elk, the restaurant provides a diverse selection for diners.
We were staying in Lone Pine and asked around for recommendations for where to eat dinner. Seasons was resounding favorite among the locals, so we ventured in to check it out. A quaint family run business that cares about their customers. It offers an old world charm that one might expect from this little western film destination. Edgar, was so friendly and the staff worked as a cohesive team to ensure all the tables were well taken care of. We ordered the "New York Raymond" - 10oz NY steak with a delicious black pepper sauce and the "Rack of Lamb Rosemary"- 6 chops cooked to perfection with a mouth-watering gravy. We finished off our meal with a Crème Brulee for dessert and we were so glad we did!

I’ve never had a better tasting elk before! Same with lamb rack! Mouth melting meat – so tender, sauces and flavors are pure perfection. I wish I took pictures of how empty our plates looked after, not a drop of mashed potatoes or sauce were left!!!

Just what you need at the end of the day. The people working the floor were super attentive and great! The food was amazing. I had the elk it was a first for me and it was very tasty and the shell on the cream brûlée was perfect. You can even see the sunset with the mountains in the background.

✨ What an amazing place! ✨ Loved everything — the food, the ambiance, the service... everything was just perfect. We ordered:
🥣 French Onion Soup
🥗 Salad Caprese
🍕 Goat Cheese Pizza
🐟 Seared Rare Ahi Tuna
🍫 Chocolate Mousse Cake Every dish was absolutely delicious! My personal recommendation is to make a reservation before you go, as it can get quite busy. Also, there's a hidden bar tucked somewhere deep in the restaurant. It’s a cozy little gem — try to find it! 🕵️‍♀️🍸

A reasonably good restaurant in this part of the small country. Service was fast, food was fine, prices were right. The cocktails were strong.

I had the New York Steak Raymond, and my group had the Filet Bernaise, Filet Green Peppercorn, and the vegetarian pasta. Steak was cooked to perfection and exactly as ordered. I would want to try the rice pilaf next time instead of the mashed potatoes, but the presentation was nice, and they were still tasty. Service was friendly, patient, helpful, and knowledgeable. We will return.
Charyn V — Google review
We were completely surprised by how good everything was. The bartender (Quentin?) is a local legend and that is well deserved. We split our meal and that was not an issue with anyone. Drinks had a generous pour, Trout was delicious. The bar is small and tucked away so if you want to sit in the bar, ask. Everything was twice as good as you'd expect in a small town and priced half of what you'd expect in a big town.

The restaurant offers takeout services and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Visitors praise the friendly staff and affordable, flavorsome smoked meats. Guests particularly enjoy the perfectly smoked pulled pork and delectable homemade BBQ sauces available to enhance their orders.
Good smoked meats for the price. Staff is super friendly and helpful. A great place to stack some calories before hitting the high trails. I got the pulled pork and it was smoke to perfection. They had options of home made bbq sauces to add to your orders and both were wonderful.

Showed up close to closing so we ordered what was still available, or so we were told. They said they were out of all sides. As I got the car & pulled around my wife paid & a party which came in after us was served, you guessed it, the sides we were told they didn’t have! She knew I’d say something so she told me after we down the road a ways. Food is pricey & not worth it. Also, don’t take their word if they actually have baked beans & coleslaw or not. Won’t come back & advise you spend your money elsewhere.

Take it from an actual Texan from the heart of BBQ country, do not stop here. The food is over peppered, overpriced, and overrated. The brisket is barely above average and the sides are well below average. All but one of the staff need an attitude adjustment.
Tessa L — Google review
Don't bother stopping here. Muffins are stale. Ribs are burned and brisket is just spicy without much flavor. We like our food spicy but this isn't it. The only thing that was good was chili. $98 later, we were all very disappointed

The brisket was delicious with different sauces to choose from with both the original and spicy sauce being flavorful. Definitely is going to be a regular place to visit on our journey through Lone Pine.

This Texas style bbq is melt in your mouth deliciousness. Best smoked turkey I have ever eaten. The chili is spicy delicious. They have 3 homemade bbq style sauces (hot, regular, Expresso). This is definitely worth the stop. Bring an appetite, because it is filling. The beer and wine selection could be better, but this isn't a bar like environment. It's all about the food!! Great family environment. They have a huge inside eating area and a decent outside patio area. Dogs are welcomed to join in the outside patio with zero issues. Love the fact they don't use plastic one use utensils, and have recycling. The place was very clean, and has an old world feel. Been driven by this place for years; now it's on my must stop when passing through.

We always stopped here on the way home as it was pops favorite (there is a ton of John Wayne stuff inside). It was 9 years since mom had been home for a visit and 3.5 years since pops passed, so it was fitting to have lunch here again. Service was great, and the food was tasty!

I really liked this Lone Pine iconic restaurant. Kind of an old western, bar/cafe... I thought there was a certain kind of charm to the place. First of all, I got there late for dinner hour around 8:30pm, and I quickly ordered up a soup & sandwich combo. The waitress was very friendly and prompt and seemed to be serving both the dining room and bar side as well. So along with an imported Mexican beer, I had a toasted BLT & corned beef soup. No complaints on the food at all and a cold bottle of beer really hit the spot. I would say the menu is what you would expect with American fare but I would also like to add that this place seems to do things the right way. Bottom Line: 8.7 out of 10

In addition to food service, Mt. Whitney Restaurant in Lone Pine is also somewhat of a local museum. There’s a lot of history stored here. Old photos adorn every wall, and historical items fill shelves and display cases nearly everywhere you look. When you walk in it’s almost as though you’ve stepped back in time. For us, the servers seemed indifferent. Maybe it was because the summer season rush had come to an end and everyone was beat. The meals we had over two visits were good enough; not great, but good. For claiming to have the “best burgers in town” we found the patties to be thin and somewhat lacking in taste. The corned beef hash had all the flavor but the portion was rather small. There’s every reason to believe that this restaurant can do better. I’m sure they’ve had better days, but unfortunately we missed out. The coffee cups are quite nice. We bought a couple to commemorate climbing the peak.

Really cool restaurant, the service was great. Candace was a great waitress and was very attentive, she provided great recommendations and provided excellent service. I ordered the Beef dip and it came out hot and plentiful. The overall experience was great and would recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through.

Back for more! Love the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. The elk burger was such a unique experience. Great food, souvenirs, and ice cream.

We stopped by this place to get food on our way back to LA. Burger was delicious but fish and chips were tasteless. Don’t expect any service and be ready to wait for more than 40 minutes for your food.

I had high hopes for this place, especially with their bold claim of serving "the best burgers in town." Unfortunately, my experience couldn't have been further from the truth. Let's start with the burger itself: it was burnt to the point where any flavor the patty might have had was completely obliterated. The texture was dry and unpleasant, and the entire thing was utterly tasteless. Even the toppings and condiments couldn't save it—they were either sparse or uninspired. Then, there's the price. For what I paid, I was expecting something truly exceptional. Instead, I got a mediocre burger that even a budget fast-food chain like Carl's Jr. could easily outshine. And that's saying a lot because Carl's Jr. isn't exactly the gold standard of burgers. Overall, this was a huge letdown. Overpriced, poorly cooked, and flavorless—this burger joint is proof that great advertising doesn’t always translate to great food. Save your money and your taste buds; this place is not worth it.
